Mahatma Gandhi was a prominent leader in Indian politics and a leader of the Indian independence movement. He started the principle of satyagraha, or non-violent resistance. He is best known as "Mahatma", meaning great soul, and is honored as the "Father of India". Gandhi developed and advocated the philosophy of satyagraha or truth force, which is a form of non-violent resistance.
