E-Commerce
E-commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or
the transmitting of funds or data, over an electronic network, primarily the Internet. These
business transactions occur either business-to-business, business-to-consumer, consumer-to-
consumer or consumer-to-business. The terms e-commerce and e-business are often used
interchangeably. Now I show detail two popular E-commerce site.
1. Popular E-commerce site in the world
2. Popular E-commerce site in Bangladesh
Introduction
In 1994, at the age of 30, Jeff Bezos began what has come to be a household name, Amazon.com.
Jeff started Amazon.com on a shoe string, out of his garage. He had an idea to take existing
technology and use this to create a retail mail order business. This technology was originally created
by the defense department. The technology that was available took different computers used within
the government and created a system that connected them with one another, the internet. Jeff’s idea
was to take the mail order business one step further and use the internet not the telephone. He
conducted research and found that of the top 20 mail order businesses, books were merchandise that
stood out as something which might be sold easier over the internet than through the typical mail
order business methods. Along the way, Jeff picked up a couple of investors or business partners. He
first tested the new business through friends and acquaintances and subsequently Amazon.com was
launched.
The business took off quickly and continued to grow. While the business grew, Jeff and company
worked on the website continuing to make improvements. In 1997 Amazon.com went public. By 1999
Amazon.com had more market share of the retail book business than the next two largest book store
chains combined. At this point Jeff made his intentions clear. He wanted Amazon.co to go from being
the “Earth’s biggest book store” to the “Earth’s biggest anything store” (Academy of Achievement,
2009).
This type of business, a retail internet business is considered an e-business or an e-commerce
business. E-business includes any business activity conducted electronically between or within
businesses, whereas e-commerce is defined to be just the electronic interaction that enables exchange
of goods and services. Amazon.com uses e-business for business to consumer (B2C) by using the
internet to sell directly to consumers. Consumers access the Amazon.com website, place an order,
and the order is shipped directly to the consumer. Additionally, Amazon.com uses e-business trade to
conduct business with other businesses (B2B). Amazon.com does not use B2B as much to generate
revenue as it does to make business connections and form partnerships (Pearlson & Sanders, 2005).
Such partnerships have or do include Target, Borders, Toys R Us, and Sears. Businesses partner with
Amazon.com using the Amazon.com website to further their sales.
Jeff Bezo’s intention of becoming the earth’s biggest anything store is becoming a reality as he
remains innovative and competitive. And Amazon does have competitors, Google and Microsoft.
Amazon competes more with Microsoft than with Google. Google is primarily a search engine, a site
a user accesses to find other sites. Amazon has begun offering more technical support for other
companies similar to Microsoft. Amazon developed a new strategy which is to use more of their
processing capacity by providing a series of computing, storage, and additional services to other
companies (Rainer & Turban, 2008). Amazon developed three such services; Simple Storage Services
(S3), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Mechanical Turk(Rainer & Turban, 2008). The service S3
provides for companies is the storage of data and applications on Amazon disk drives. The EC2 is a
service that rents out processing power by the hour and is comparable to one basic server. Amazon’s
Mechanical Turk services provide a combination of processing power and networks of real people.
Amazon’s S3, EC2, and the Mechanical Turk are the systems that compete with Microsoft. While
Amazon offers services by the hour, Microsoft offers primarily a onetime fee to buy the application.
Some applications must be renewed each year and there is an annual fee. Amazon is receiving and
storing a large amount of data each week with these three services. Amazons possible management
issue will be with the processing capacity for it’s new services.Prior to offering these services
Amazon was only using 10% of its processing capacity. Amazon will also need to manage all the
data, information, and knowledge they receive from companies and allocate it accordingly. Amazons
information technology or architecture can map plan the information assets by integrating the business
needs for information. The infrastructure support technology of Amazon consist of IT components, IT
services, and IT personnel who the organization (Rainer & Turban, 2008). The IT infrastructure and
platform of Amazon is imperative in today’s competitive environment.
Some might say that by expanding their services, Amazon is moving away from their core
competency, to be the earth’s biggest anything store. By 2007 Amazon spent 2 billion dollars building
the infrastructure of its online store in support of fulfilling that promise (Turban & Rainer, 2008).
Their profits had fallen and the company’s operating margin was less than Wal-mart’s (Turban &
Rainer, 2008). At this point the decision was made to expand their services and they began offering
S3, EC2, and Mechanical Turk. To take this route was a big risk. Although these services contributed
to Amazon’s bottom-line and increased profits, this move could have thrust Amazon into a hosting
position for the technical and logistical parts of businesses rather than their original business of being
an online retail giant. Amazon had to decide if they should stay focused on the core competencies and
competitive advantages that had made them what they were or diversify to keep up with or attempt to
surpass their competition.
Today Amazon is bigger than ever. The growth in digital delivery has boosted their profit
margins. Their innovative efforts created new areas of growth. Their wise diversification move has
made Amazon very successful in today’s environment. While changing business strategy may be
necessary, this does not have to occur at the expense of loosing sight of one’s goal. Balance is the key
in a fast changing market. Amazon was successfulbecause it leveraged its current businesses with the
demands of operating new ones.

Digital content
Amazon's Honor System was launched in 2001 to allow customers to make donations or buy digital
content, with Amazon collecting a percentage of the payment plus a fee; however, the service was
discontinued in 2008 and replaced by Amazon Payments.
Amazon Music, its own online music store, launched as Amazon MP3 in the US on September 25,
2007, selling downloads exclusively in MP3 format without digital rights management. (In addition to
copyright law, Amazon's terms of use agreements restrict use of the MP3s,but Amazon does not
use digital rights management (DRM) to enforce those terms.) In addition to independent music labels,
Amazon MP3 primarily sells music from the "Big 4" record labels: EMI, Universal, Warner Bros.
Records, andSony Music. Prior to the launch of this service, Amazon made an investment in Amie
Street, a music store with a variable pricing model based on demand. Amazon MP3 was the first online
offering of DRM-free music from all four major record companies.
In January 2008, Amazon began distributing its MP3 service to subsidiary websites worldwide and, in
December 2008, Amazon MP3 was made available in the UK. At the launch of Amazon MP3 in the
UK, over 3 million Digital Rights Management (DRM)-free songs were made available to consumers,
with prices that started at 59p, compared to Apple's 79p starting price.
In July 2010, Amazon announced that e-book sales for its Kindle reader outnumbered sales
of hardcover books for the first time ever during the second quarter of 2010. Amazon claims that,
during that period, 143 e-books were sold for every 100 hardcover books, including hardcovers for
which there is no digital edition; and during late June and early July, sales rose to 180 digital books
for every 100 hardcovers.
On March 22, 2011, Amazon launched the Amazon Appstore for Android devices and the service was
made available in over 200 countries. Also in 2011, Amazon announced that it was releasing a Mac
download store to offer dozens of games and hundreds of pieces of software for Apple computers.
In January 2013, Amazon launched AutoRip, a digital music service. The service allows customers to
receive a free MP3 copy of select CDs purchased through Amazon. Amazon announced in September
2013 that it would launch Kindle MatchBook in October 2013, a similar service for books allowing
customers who buy books from Amazon to acquire an e-book copy for free,or at a discounted price of
US$3 or less. Match Book was launched on the company's site on October 29, 2013.

Content search
"Search Inside the Book" is a feature which allows customers to search for keywords in the full text of
many books in the catalog. The feature started with 120,000 titles (or 33 million pages of text) on
October 23, 2003. There are currently about 300,000 books in the program. Amazon has cooperated
with around 130 publishers to allow users to perform these searches.
To avoid copyright violations, amazon.com does not return the computer-readable text of the book.
Instead, it returns a picture of the matching page, instructs the web browser to disable printing, and
puts limits on the number of pages in a book a single user can access. Additionally, customers can
purchase online access to some of the same books via the "Amazon Upgrade" program.

Design, animation & color combination
The Design of Amazon website is one of the finest design. It’s looks simple but all the information is
given in the site. For the reason of simple design is customer satisfication, If one customer visit the
site he can understand all the think of the site. But there is a problem of this site, it’s shows many
product so visitor are confused to see the so many product.
There are many product in the site so the allow a category list in the site so that customer can buy
what they need. The logo of Amazon is match with the website. There is a icon of departments is in
the left site it collected all the department product. If any one want to buy a product he first create an
account in the site . Then there is a icon of list where store the list product . Customer can make a own
cart in this site. The color of the site is simple they use Black, white & Orange.
I think Amazon can not make so much Animation ,They only give the product image and product
details what a customer want.
Color combination of Amazon is so nice but simple. They use the color what the product and site
need. They can not use extra color , they use that color which is match with the site and product.
I got a receipt copy of amazon.com. The document I attach with my Assignment.
Introduction
The domain name www.rokomari.com (hereinafter referred to as "Website") is owned by
Onnorokom Web Services Limited a company incorporated under the Companies Act,
1994(Act XVIII of 1994). A habit of reading can develop this perceptiveness. But we are
losing this precious habit of reading these days, which is ominous indeed! After a hectic day
due to traffic jam, Dhaka city dwellers seldom have interest to go out to buy books and where
is the time anyway? In outside Dhaka, rarity of books is big enough obstacle to make people
less interested to books. Internet addiction is another issue which inhabits places in our minds
which we once reserved for books. To solve all these diverse concerns rokomari dot com
started its journey in January 19, 2012. Today, a reader from Teknaf is receiving the same
book another reader from Dhanmondi is receiving at their doorsteps. The success of
rokomari.com from its beginning makes us believe that the people of Bangladesh never lost
the habit of reading from the deep cores in their minds. The habit of reading is reviving.
Today, most internet addicted youngsters are often having a glance through rokomari.com

Rokomari.com is a local E-commerce website in Bangladesh. It is so colorful and nice
looking site.
It use more Bangla then English so that Customer easily buy product from this Site.
Show with picture-
The Design of rokomari.com website is one of the finest design. It’s looks simple but
attractive and all the information is given in the site. For the reason of simple design is
customer satisfication, If one customer visit the site he can understand all the think of the site

Conclusion
After visit two site one think I can understand amazon.com is world wide popular because of
availableity of product and low price of product on the other side Rokomari.com is a local
site, it mainly sell books but the rate of the book are same as a book shop. Rokomari give
25% discount but book shop also give same discount. The design, content & color of
Rokomari is much better then amazon I think. It is not very easy to open a new account in amazon
on the other side open a Rokomari account is very easy. Process of purchase a book in
Rokomari is easy, they allow cash on delivery but the process of amazon is not very easy &
they not allow allows cash on delivery.
Amazon is popular but Rokomari is easy to use.

Comparative Analysis Between Amazon.com & Rokomari.com

  • 1.
  • 2. E-Commerce E-commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or the transmitting of funds or data, over an electronic network, primarily the Internet. These business transactions occur either business-to-business, business-to-consumer, consumer-to- consumer or consumer-to-business. The terms e-commerce and e-business are often used interchangeably. Now I show detail two popular E-commerce site. 1. Popular E-commerce site in the world 2. Popular E-commerce site in Bangladesh
  • 3. Introduction In 1994, at the age of 30, Jeff Bezos began what has come to be a household name, Amazon.com. Jeff started Amazon.com on a shoe string, out of his garage. He had an idea to take existing technology and use this to create a retail mail order business. This technology was originally created by the defense department. The technology that was available took different computers used within the government and created a system that connected them with one another, the internet. Jeff’s idea was to take the mail order business one step further and use the internet not the telephone. He conducted research and found that of the top 20 mail order businesses, books were merchandise that stood out as something which might be sold easier over the internet than through the typical mail order business methods. Along the way, Jeff picked up a couple of investors or business partners. He first tested the new business through friends and acquaintances and subsequently Amazon.com was launched. The business took off quickly and continued to grow. While the business grew, Jeff and company worked on the website continuing to make improvements. In 1997 Amazon.com went public. By 1999 Amazon.com had more market share of the retail book business than the next two largest book store chains combined. At this point Jeff made his intentions clear. He wanted Amazon.co to go from being the “Earth’s biggest book store” to the “Earth’s biggest anything store” (Academy of Achievement, 2009). This type of business, a retail internet business is considered an e-business or an e-commerce business. E-business includes any business activity conducted electronically between or within businesses, whereas e-commerce is defined to be just the electronic interaction that enables exchange of goods and services. Amazon.com uses e-business for business to consumer (B2C) by using the internet to sell directly to consumers. Consumers access the Amazon.com website, place an order, and the order is shipped directly to the consumer. Additionally, Amazon.com uses e-business trade to conduct business with other businesses (B2B). Amazon.com does not use B2B as much to generate revenue as it does to make business connections and form partnerships (Pearlson & Sanders, 2005). Such partnerships have or do include Target, Borders, Toys R Us, and Sears. Businesses partner with Amazon.com using the Amazon.com website to further their sales. Jeff Bezo’s intention of becoming the earth’s biggest anything store is becoming a reality as he remains innovative and competitive. And Amazon does have competitors, Google and Microsoft. Amazon competes more with Microsoft than with Google. Google is primarily a search engine, a site a user accesses to find other sites. Amazon has begun offering more technical support for other companies similar to Microsoft. Amazon developed a new strategy which is to use more of their processing capacity by providing a series of computing, storage, and additional services to other companies (Rainer & Turban, 2008). Amazon developed three such services; Simple Storage Services (S3), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Mechanical Turk(Rainer & Turban, 2008). The service S3 provides for companies is the storage of data and applications on Amazon disk drives. The EC2 is a service that rents out processing power by the hour and is comparable to one basic server. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk services provide a combination of processing power and networks of real people. Amazon’s S3, EC2, and the Mechanical Turk are the systems that compete with Microsoft. While
  • 4. Amazon offers services by the hour, Microsoft offers primarily a onetime fee to buy the application. Some applications must be renewed each year and there is an annual fee. Amazon is receiving and storing a large amount of data each week with these three services. Amazons possible management issue will be with the processing capacity for it’s new services.Prior to offering these services Amazon was only using 10% of its processing capacity. Amazon will also need to manage all the data, information, and knowledge they receive from companies and allocate it accordingly. Amazons information technology or architecture can map plan the information assets by integrating the business needs for information. The infrastructure support technology of Amazon consist of IT components, IT services, and IT personnel who the organization (Rainer & Turban, 2008). The IT infrastructure and platform of Amazon is imperative in today’s competitive environment. Some might say that by expanding their services, Amazon is moving away from their core competency, to be the earth’s biggest anything store. By 2007 Amazon spent 2 billion dollars building the infrastructure of its online store in support of fulfilling that promise (Turban & Rainer, 2008). Their profits had fallen and the company’s operating margin was less than Wal-mart’s (Turban & Rainer, 2008). At this point the decision was made to expand their services and they began offering S3, EC2, and Mechanical Turk. To take this route was a big risk. Although these services contributed to Amazon’s bottom-line and increased profits, this move could have thrust Amazon into a hosting position for the technical and logistical parts of businesses rather than their original business of being an online retail giant. Amazon had to decide if they should stay focused on the core competencies and competitive advantages that had made them what they were or diversify to keep up with or attempt to surpass their competition. Today Amazon is bigger than ever. The growth in digital delivery has boosted their profit margins. Their innovative efforts created new areas of growth. Their wise diversification move has made Amazon very successful in today’s environment. While changing business strategy may be necessary, this does not have to occur at the expense of loosing sight of one’s goal. Balance is the key in a fast changing market. Amazon was successfulbecause it leveraged its current businesses with the demands of operating new ones. Content Digital content Amazon's Honor System was launched in 2001 to allow customers to make donations or buy digital content, with Amazon collecting a percentage of the payment plus a fee; however, the service was discontinued in 2008 and replaced by Amazon Payments. Amazon Music, its own online music store, launched as Amazon MP3 in the US on September 25, 2007, selling downloads exclusively in MP3 format without digital rights management. (In addition to copyright law, Amazon's terms of use agreements restrict use of the MP3s,but Amazon does not use digital rights management (DRM) to enforce those terms.) In addition to independent music labels, Amazon MP3 primarily sells music from the "Big 4" record labels: EMI, Universal, Warner Bros. Records, andSony Music. Prior to the launch of this service, Amazon made an investment in Amie Street, a music store with a variable pricing model based on demand. Amazon MP3 was the first online offering of DRM-free music from all four major record companies. In January 2008, Amazon began distributing its MP3 service to subsidiary websites worldwide and, in December 2008, Amazon MP3 was made available in the UK. At the launch of Amazon MP3 in the UK, over 3 million Digital Rights Management (DRM)-free songs were made available to consumers, with prices that started at 59p, compared to Apple's 79p starting price. In July 2010, Amazon announced that e-book sales for its Kindle reader outnumbered sales of hardcover books for the first time ever during the second quarter of 2010. Amazon claims that,
  • 5. during that period, 143 e-books were sold for every 100 hardcover books, including hardcovers for which there is no digital edition; and during late June and early July, sales rose to 180 digital books for every 100 hardcovers. On March 22, 2011, Amazon launched the Amazon Appstore for Android devices and the service was made available in over 200 countries. Also in 2011, Amazon announced that it was releasing a Mac download store to offer dozens of games and hundreds of pieces of software for Apple computers. In January 2013, Amazon launched AutoRip, a digital music service. The service allows customers to receive a free MP3 copy of select CDs purchased through Amazon. Amazon announced in September 2013 that it would launch Kindle MatchBook in October 2013, a similar service for books allowing customers who buy books from Amazon to acquire an e-book copy for free,or at a discounted price of US$3 or less. Match Book was launched on the company's site on October 29, 2013. It is not very easy to open a new account, I show some page-
  • 6. Content search "Search Inside the Book" is a feature which allows customers to search for keywords in the full text of many books in the catalog. The feature started with 120,000 titles (or 33 million pages of text) on October 23, 2003. There are currently about 300,000 books in the program. Amazon has cooperated with around 130 publishers to allow users to perform these searches. To avoid copyright violations, amazon.com does not return the computer-readable text of the book. Instead, it returns a picture of the matching page, instructs the web browser to disable printing, and puts limits on the number of pages in a book a single user can access. Additionally, customers can purchase online access to some of the same books via the "Amazon Upgrade" program. Process of amazon.com produc t sell.

Conclusion After visit two site one think I can understand amazon.com is world wide popular because of availableity of product and low price of product on the other side Rokomari.com is a local site, it mainly sell books but the rate of the book are same as a book shop. Rokomari give 25% discount but book shop also give same discount. The design, content & color of Rokomari is much better then amazon I think. It is not very easy to open a new account in amazon on the other side open a Rokomari account is very easy. Process of purchase a book in Rokomari is easy, they allow cash on delivery but the process of amazon is not very easy & they not allow allows cash on delivery. Amazon is popular but Rokomari is easy to use. Thanks
