Have you ever wondered how games impact children? or why kids love to play them? Well your
about to find out and the answer may be surprising. Video games were first introduced in the 1970s.
By the end of that decade they had become a preferred childhood leisure activity, and adults
responded with concern about the possible ill effects of the games on children. Early research on
these effects was inconclusive. However, a resurgence in video game sales that began in the late
1980s after the introduction of the Nintendo system has renewed interest in examining the effects of

Students who had previously played the violent video game delivered longer noise blasts to their
opponents (Anderson & Dill, 2000). In a study of 8th and 9th graders, students who played more
violent video games were also more likely to see the world as a hostile place, to get into frequent
arguments with teachers, and to be involved in physical fights It has often been suggested that
violent video games are not the culprit for these types of behaviors; instead, the cause is underlying
hostility. The argument goes, "Hostile kids get into more arguments and more fights. They also like
to play more violent games." While this is true, it is not the whole story. This study measured
children's trait hostility, and found that exposure to video game violence is a significant predictor of
physical fights, even when students' sex, hostility level, and amount of video game playing are
controlled statistically. If hostility were the whole story, then in general, only hostile children would
tend to get into fights, and children with the lowest hostility scores would not get into physical
fights regardless of their video game habits. Figure 1 shows the percentages of students who report

The tasks that game players are instructed to complete in any video game can affect the way the
players act in real life. For Example, games such as UFC Unleashed and WWE Wrestling are filled
with violence. Players will face one another with their chosen superstar and fight till one wins the
match. Both of these games are based off of real life entertainment in the form of fighting, however
these entertainers are professionals and know what they are doing. Video game users become good
at the games that imitate these professionals, and in return believe they possess the ability to fight in

There are one billion user's activities on Facebook daily. Facebook is the social media network. It is
a way that people over the world can enable users to create, connect and share the thought form one
person to another by participating in social networking. A lot of students are using social media in
the school. For example, when the student has a question on the class assignment, they can easily
send or text a message to anyone who can help with the assignment. People who use social media
are social because social media allows you to communicate with the world by talking in text, calls,

Objectification of women works with benevolent sexism to further oppress women in the media
through its effects on self–esteem and well–being. Rollero's (2013) article "Men and women facing
objectification: The effects of media models on well–being, self–esteem and ambivalent sexism"
examines media representations of men and women and how they are related to levels of sexism and
psychological well–being. The literature on objectification has mostly indicated the connection
between viewing objectified media representations and women's body displeasure and motivation to
achieve a slim body. The goal of the current study was to further past research by studying the
effects of objectified media images –considering both male and female models– on psychological
well–being, self–regard, and support of sexist states of mind. 166 undergraduates (51.8% males)
participated in the study. Results indicated that objectification of men lessened men's happiness,
whereas objectification of women was more damaging because it lessens women's happiness, appeal
and social self–confidence. Furthermore, objectification of women affects men's validation of sexist
attitudes, increasing aggression toward women while decreasing aggression direct to men. Typically,

Proponents of the idea that violence depicted on both television and video games affects the

existing issue of media bias our society, into the light. For generations, the American people and all
who live in our nation have relied on platforms of mass media, such as the news, to inform them of

amounts of television will give children different values. Since children spend so little time with

Abstract
This experiment assessed the role of videogames and hostility in young Queens College students.
This experiment was based on whether video games make a person hostile towards his or her
surroundings. Showing two different clips from different video games, which described the mood of
young students, did it. The experiment was tested within a classroom in Queens College. The
experiment was divided into two different conditions, condition one, which was hostile games, and
condition two, which was non– hostile games. First, the students were shown the clip of this
aggressive video game called, Call of Duty 3 for two minutes and were asked to imagine as if they
were playing. Students were administered the State Hostility Questionnaire and instructed to fill out
ratings before and after the experiment. Secondly, the students were shown the clip of a nonviolent
video game called Pikmin and were asked to do the same as they did with the first video game. The
goal of this experiment was to briefly find out if video games made a person hostile. Since, video

This is a current event issue that is a present reality for many college students. Does video game
violence directly relate to human violence? Does video game violence effect aggression? Does
technological advances and violent content effect humans and their aggression? Does violent video
games cause hostel thoughts? While researching the connection between video game violence and
violence in children I came across communication theories that can help us understand how these

Mechanism of GAM
General Aggression Model (GAM) represents a theoretical basis for social–cognitive integrated
model of human aggression, and aims at the interpretation of the connection between the motivation
of aggression, and the following aggressive behavior, aggressive effect (i.e., physiological
stimulation), aggressive cognition, (i.e., thoughts), reduced pro–social behavior, and reduced
empathy (i.e., emotional facets) (Anderson and Bushman, 2001; Barlett and Anderson 2013). As a
process model, GAM can be divided into two explanatory mechanisms; a) proximate and distal
GAM (Anderson & Carnagey, 2004) or b) proximate GAM as single–episode GAM and multiple–
episode GAM (see. Anderson & Bushman, 2001) as (long–term) effects of repetitive violence
viewing (Barlett & Anderson, 2013).
In the single episode model, GAM describes a continuous cycle of interaction between
personal/biological and situational/violent media exposure variables/modifiers; situational input
variables influence aggressive behavior through their impact on the person's present internal state
(e.g. personality/hostility traits, emotions or attitudes), represented by cognitive, affective and
arousal variables. The present internal state of a person in GAM is the result of the interaction
among between affect, arousal, and cognition (i.e., the activation/priming of one of them leads to the

As humans, most of us strongly stand by our opinions specifically concerning politics. There are
numerous media outlets that we are exposed to daily that are managed by individuals who hold
resolute views regarding specific pressing political topics. They share their views with the general
public. Media is made up of various dissimilar forms. These include social media, television, radio,
and podcasts. As a result of these abundant media sources, many viewers are affected by what they
are subjected to daily when exhibiting media. Thus, media in the United States is biased; News
outlets have agendas that they adhere to actively making all media slanted to one side. Media
viewers and the general public may have biased understandings regarding news, nevertheless U.S.
Media will always be more bias. Everyday we are likely to encounter media that is inherently
partial. Today, because of the internet we have access to countless articles from various news outlets
that discuss an assortment of issues from abortion laws to the presidential election. Each news
source talks about the same issues in distinct ways. This is because news outlets are either left or
right leaning or somewhere in the middle. On the left: "– Huffington Post, Daily Kos, etc. – as well

The Effects Of Media Violence On Children
Media Violence is definitely harmful to children as the exposure of media violence can desensitize
children (age 6–12) to violence and in the real world; violence becomes enjoyable and does not
result in apprehensiveness in the child. There have been several studies and experiments regarding
the adverse effects of violence used in video games, television, as well as movies. With both
preschool and school–aged children, studies have found that they are more likely to imitate the
violence they see on screen if someone they see as a 'good guy ' is using the violence to solve a
problem, especially if there are no realistic consequences for the violence. Examples are marvel
comic characters such as Spiderman, The Hulk, Batman. These characters appear unhurt after
smashing a building; this may lead to young adolescents thinking that violence will solve the
problem. The relationship between media violence and children are positively related, if the media
content contains violence, it will show in the behavior of the child eventually. Quantity is also
another factor that plays an important role in influencing a child. Excessive TV watching in
childhood (3+ hours a day) is associated with an increased risk of criminal convictions and anti–

This study measured children's trait hostility, and found that exposure to video game violence is a significant predictor of physical fights, even when students' sex, hostility level, and amount of video game playing are controlled statistically. If hostility were the whole story, then in general, only hostile children would tend to get into fights, and children with the lowest hostility scores would not get into physical fights regardless of their video game habits.
