3. Taking a Look at Rosemary
Rosemary has been used for centuries as a pain reliever and cooking supplement. But through time
rosemary has been not only a name, but adapted to modern day medicine. Rosemary may even be
the future aid to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. It could be the medicine of the future.
Rosemary, or Rosmarinus officinalis, was originally grown in the Mediterranean. However, there
are many recordings of rosemary in Egypt where they buried their dead with rosemary on their
graves or in their tombs. Rosemary was also mentioned in Shakespeare, in Romeo and Juliet, Juliet
wore rosemary throughout the entire story to foreshadow her death. And in Anzac day in Australia
citizens are expected to wear rosemary in honor of their dead ancestors (2014 Monterey Bay Spice
Company). Aside from rosemary's obvious symbolism for death it also symbolizes memory.
Shakespeare mentioned rosemary once again in Hamlet, but this time speaking of it out of an aid for
remembrance. In Latin rosemary is Ros Maris, which means "dew of the sea" because of its growth
near water and in Spain it is called Romero. The reasoning behind rosemary's name is because if the
story once told about a Mediterranean woman who, in hopes to hide her baby from King Herod, hid
under a rosemary bush when she attempted to flee to Egypt. The woman's name was Mary and
rosemary was considered a rose bush. In the Middle Ages rosemary was also burnt in the homes of
many because of its foretold ability to ward

4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rhizoctonia
1.1 Introduction of Rhizoctonia solani and its Anastomosis Groups
The soilborne Basidiomycete fungus Rhizoctonia solani Kühn [telomorph= Thanatephorus
cucumeris] is reported to cause economically important diseases on vegetables, fruits, staple crops
and ornamental plants throughout the world (Jones and Belmar, 1989; Naito et al., 1995; Yang et al.,
1990). The systematic of R. solani has been studied using morphological (Warcup et al., 1966; Sneh
et al., 1991) and molecular characters (Vilgalys and Gonzalez, 1990; Vilgalys and Cubeta, 1994).
Some most common and speculiar features of Rhizoctonia like branching at right–angle, a

cucumeris (R. solani) were done on the formation of hetrokaryotic tufts at the site of their hyphal
connection between single spore homokaryotic cultures. In AGs –1 and –4, hetrokaryon formation
between two homokaryon is controlled by two closely linked genes which together referred as H
factor. Paired homokaryons that carry H factor differing at one or both genes microscopically
showing C2 reaction & produce fluffy tufts of heterokaryotic hyphae. Later studies revealed that H
factor was also controlling nuclear pairing & stability of heterokaryon. On account of these findings,
Adams & Butler (1982) have suggested heterokaryon incompatibility factors in T.cucumeris are the
same as sexual incompatibility factors. Anderson stated that sexual & vegetative incompatibility is
same and reciprocal with each other. Sexual compatibility was assessed macroscopically as
formation of hertrokaryotic tufts when homokaryons of two different mating types were paired. The
tufts arising at the junction between two homokaryon belongs to AGs –1 & –4 are heterokaryotic

Internal influences include blood sugar increases, hormone imbalances, leaky gut, yeast infections,
and high–stress cortisol markers. All of these factors inflame skin and can aggravate blemish–prone
skin.
The most common cause of acne is excessive sebum production. Skin cells known as sebocytes
handle sebum production. As they gobble fatty acids and grow bigger and bigger, they make their
way into the hair canal where they burst and spill the sebum. Hormones stimulate the growth of
sebocytes and sebum production.
Dead skin cells can build up and block the hair canal, causing acne. In healthy skin, they die and are
6. pushed out by growing hair. In acne–prone skin, an excess growth of skin cells and haywire
hormones can disrupt this process. This combination of dead cells and sebum buildup causes acne
and enlarged pores.
Pores can also appear enlarged due to genetics (the biggest factor), which contributes to the skin's
sebum production. Aging skin that is losing its elasticity can make pores appear larger. Prolonged
sun exposure can make pores appear

7. Detection Of Volatiles On Honey : Application Of Spme / Gc...
Detection of Volatiles in Honey: Application of SPME/GC/MS Mahsa Lotfi–Marchoubeh
Dec.08.2016 1. Introduction: Honey is one of the main sources of food in the world. It is greatly
appreciated for its nutritional value and sweetness but also for its characteristic aroma and sweet
taste. The aroma is due to the presence of many different volatiles in honey. Some of these volatiles
are originated from the plants whereas the others are made during honey processing or storage.
Aroma compounds are present in honey at very low concentrations as complex mixtures of volatile
components of different functionality and relatively low molecular weight. GC/MS has been the
method of choice to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze these compounds. However, sugar and
water, the two components of honey should be removed from the sample for a GC/MS analysis. The
most common way to eliminate water from the sample has been to put the sample through a heat
regimen mainly because of its simplicity. In many cases, the thermolabile compounds do not
undergo any changes due to high temperatures. Fractionation techniques that use low polarity
solvents are also another common way to eliminate water and sugar because they do not extract
water and sugar. Due to low concentrations of volatiles and the low recoveries obtained for
semivolatile compounds, static headspace analysis has not been widely applied to honey
fractionation. Purge and trap techniques have been commonly used to

Application :
The patches are hydrogel instead of cotton masks. Since these patches are only made for the 'apple
zone' of the face, they come in small sizes. When I placed them on my face, they stuck pretty well
since they are hydrogel based. What I noticed is that they lacked a good amount of essence. Like I
only felt the mask itself on my face, but not much wetness with it. After taking the patches off after
20 minutes, I can't say I found it really moisturized my skin at all or did anything beneficial.

10. Depression Of A Herbal Clinic
Depression in a Herbal Clinic Understanding depression is vital in modern and stressful times.
Depression is not an exclusive condition and affects people from all walks of life. From the word
Depression – one can instantly visualise the "burden" (WHO, 2012) of this endemic condition.
Churchill "affectionately" called it his "black dog" (WHO, 2012). Is it widely known that October
10 is World Mental Health Day? (WHO, 2014) Given the prevalence, death toll and disease burden
– mental health is of great significance in a modern herbal practice. By 2030, depression alone is
projected to be the single leading cause of overall disease burden in high–income countries (Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2012). Aristotle pinpointed ... Show more content on

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short–lived emotional responses to
challenges in everyday life. Especially when long–lasting and with moderate or severe intensity,
depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly
and function poorly at work, at school and in the family. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide.
Suicide results in an estimated 1 million deaths every year." (WHO, 2012) Types of depression
(Mental Health Foundation , 2014) Mild depression Mild Depression is said to have limited
negative effect on a patient's daily life. For example, patients having difficulty concentrating at work
or motivation to engage in activities normally enjoyed. Major depression Major depression is said
interferes with a patient's daily life – including activities like eating and sleep. Patients may lose
their appetite or are said to comfort eat and thus over–eat (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2013).
Patients may experience only a single episode but several episodes in a lifetime are common.
Hospital admission maybe necessary if there is a risk of self–harm. Bi–polar disorder Mood swings

Investigation of in vitro and in vivo antifungal activity of different plant acetonic extracts against
fungal skin isolates
ABSTRACT
T he worldwide increase of multidrug resistance has impaired the current antimicrobial therapy,
warranting the search for other alternatives. This study investigated the efficacy of using plant
extracts; Lawsonia inermis L(Henna), Glycyrrhiza glabra L(licorice) and Rosmarinus officinalis L
(Rosemary) as antifungal agents.Antifungal susceptibility test revealed that nystatin were mostly
active against tested clinical isolates. In vitro antifungal activity of the different plant extracts
against isolates showed that acetonic extract of licorice, had high antifungal activity. In vivo study,
topical application of licorice gave promising and excellent healing response. We propose that the
higher percentage of (GC–MS) of 3–O–Methyl–d–glucose 29.1 %, most probably are the causes of
its higher antifungal activity.
INTRODUCTION
Fungal and bacterial skin infections are of public health concern as they can elicit social, economic
and public health problem (Maseleno and Hasan, 2013). Heavily infected persons with visible
lesions are often unconscious targets of social stigma of rejection isolation because of their
unslightly appearance. The cost of long term diagnosis and treatment can be over bearing for low
income individuals who make up the bulk of developing countries where these infections occur in
epidemic proportions due to poor hygiene. It

12. Essay On Chemical Free
Every time summer rolls around, kids everywhere are guaranteed to hear their mom utter the words
'don't forget to put on some sunscreen'. They slather on the stuff (although reluctantly) because of
the damage that UV rays can cause to skin; but does anyone ever stop to think about what they are
really putting on their bodies? Most sunscreens, such as Burt's Bees Sunscreen, claim to be
'chemical free' so that consumers are put at ease and are more likely to buy the product; though this
'chemical free label' can often be misleading to consumers. After looking into the real meaning of
the word chemical, seeing what ingredients are in Burt's Bees Sunscreen, and investigating why
producers use the phrase 'chemical free' one will be able to understand what really is in the
sunscreen thousands put on throughout the summer. In order to understand why producers, use the
words 'chemical free', one must first understand what the word chemical means. According to an
online dictionary, a chemical is: a substance with a distinct molecular composition that is produced
by or used in a chemical process (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/chemical). By this definition
everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical, the glass water is in from is made of chemicals, and

A chemical created by a scientist can be beneficial while naturally occurring chemicals can be quite
harmful, which is what consumers don't understand and why producers continue to use the chemical

the sunscreen will protect from UVA and UVB rays. In addition, the ingredients also list hemp seed
oil as one of the ingredients in the sunscreen. Hemp seed oil can be very beneficial to one's skin
because it decreases the frequency of dry skin and can also help to avoid irritation if someone were
