and who are being happy with their organization (Keskonis and
Siddiqi).
 The psychological state of a person as expressed in self-confidence,
enthusiasm, and/or loyalty to a cause or organization.

has within a workplace setting.
 It has a direct effect on productivity and it is one of the corner stones of

High morale can result in loyalty and a productive
workforce.
High morale in the workplace is evident when:
 Collaboration – teamwork and shared vision
 High esteem and satisfaction– enhances
motivation and foster creativity
 High Performance – achievement of departmental
and organisational objectives
 Warm and friendly work environment
Some signs of low employee morale are:
 Poor relationships among workers and with
supervisors
 Low motivation of the employees
 High absenteeism -
 Lack of cooperation – indiscipline, high resistance
to changes
 Poor performance – missed deadlines, decline in
service level, poor quality of work
 Lack of initiative – workers take a back seat
 Active Grapevine – gossip and misinformation
 Good leadership
 Good communication
 Autonomy of workers
 Fairness and equity
 Caring supervisors and managers
 Trustworthy supervisors and

 Good social and physical environment

Improving the morale results in happier, more productive,
and higher performing employees. Morale will improve
when Supervisors & Managers:
 Try to understand & solve the problems faced by workers,
i.e. find the root causes (Ogedegbe & Bashiru, 2014).
 Find a ways to satisfy the needs and aspiration of workers
(Ogedegbe & Bashiru, 2014).
 Be a respectful supervisor or manager
