The Four Stages Of Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. The medical definition of breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society is " a
malignant tumor that starts in cells of the breast". there are two different kinds of breast cancer, Noninvasive or invasive. Which then categorizes the
cancer into four stages. depending on the size, and the location of the cancer as well as invasive or noninvasive.
The development of the cancer is unknown, it has been around since the beginning of time. Early physicians rarely mentioned the cancer in their
medical books since it was considered strange and taboo. Which led to never researching the cause of the deformity of the breast. In those days and
times if the breast were deformed it was embarrassment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the years, the treatment of breast cancer has expanded. Treatments are considered in two different categories such as local therapy and
systemic therapy. Local therapy consist of surgery and radiation, which will remove the cancer cells without disturbing the rest of the body. Systemic
therapy uses the drugs to reach the cancer cells, which consists of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy and bone directed therapy. Also
treatment can be classified as adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy. The adjuvant therapy consist of the systemic therapy. The neoadjuvant therapy is
when chemotherapy or radiation is given to in order to shrink the the tumor before the surgery, so the surgery will be less extensive. In the event of
surgery the option of breast conserving surgery or a mastectomy. A mastectomy is when one or both breast are surgically removed. Either partially or
completely the whole breast is removed. There are three types of mastectomy which include simple mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy and radical
mastectomy. The difference between the three is how much is left after the surgery, for example the simple mastectomy removes the whole breast
including the nipple. While the skin sparing mastectomy will leave majority of the skin for reconstruction surgery can take place. Lastly the radical
mastectomy is when the the whole breast and axillary lymph nodes plus the chest wall muscle is removed. Breast conserving surgery is used for
women in stage one and stage two. This surgery option only removes the cancerous part of the breast. After every surgery there are typical pain and
swelling side effects, other side effects with an mastectomy and breast conserving surgery are scaring tissues. Radiation therapy is the treatment of
high energy rays that target the cancer cell. Its also used to help when the cancer spreads. There are two different ways to give radiation. External beam

Positive Developments in Technology Advancements and innovations in all fields are necessary if humanity wishes to create a brighter and better
future. Technology that has been created and improved throughout the recent decades is proof of this philosophy. Medical innovations, such as the
MRI machine and advanced disease treatments, have helped to reduce deaths over the last half–century. With new diseases and complications arising
frequently, keeping up with the times becomes a vital matter – and recent inventions have made sure that lives are preserved rather than destroyed.
Another area of interest is the internet, which allows people to access a wealth of information and communicate with others from around the world.
Computers, satellites, and other tech are related to this subject, and all components combine to form a network that offers our world a collective
database – an notion that would have seemed outrageous more than 50 years ago. Technology is even allowing humankind to extend our reach beyond
our Earth – our solar system can be explored thanks to inventions made since the Cold War 's "space race". Rockets, probes, and other developments
have made the vast unknown less daunting – and also furthered our knowledge of chemical composition, elements, and other related scientific
principles. By saving and improving lives, technology has had a profound positive impact on the world over the last 50 years.

A New Concept
IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the
open air were healthier than those working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However, there have been
four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty–five years (Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments.
The increased dependency on artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy density (open plan offices,
reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation techniques (air tight buildings, re–circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing
body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most
industrialized cities. The US's Toxic Substances Strategy Committee stated that the majority of cancers (80–90%) are triggered by exposure to
substances in the environment (Landrigan et al., 2002). According to a 5–year–study carried out by the US Environmental Protection Agency
(Greenfield, 1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds, some linked with cancer and birth defects, were 200–500 times higher inside than
outdoors. It is necessary to note that these figures are based on US values and there is a need to exhibit caution in applying them directly to the UK in

Prevention And The Prevention Of Cancer
In an attempt to keep anyone from wasting their time reading an article that does not apply to them we need to clearly define the subject of this
article. If you are comfortable with waiting for a miracle drug to cure cancer, expecting that early detection through any number of exams at your
physicians ' office followed by chemotherapy in an attempt to kill the now detectable cancer cells, then this article is not for you. If however, you
would prefer to avoid cancer totally by preventing it before it starts, then please read on.
When addressing nutrition and the prevention of cancer one of the hottest topics in this arena at this time are antioxidants. The primary reason that
antioxidants have received increasing attention is based on the very nature of cancer cells themselves, how they are started and more importantly
how they can be eliminated before becoming detectable. For most forms of cancer, they get their start when your cell 's DNA becomes damage in
some form. Keep in mind that your body is generating new cells on a daily basis and that these new cells are being created based on the blue print of
how they should be constructed. That blue print is your DNA. When your DNA has become damaged or during the creation process of these new cells
they come in contact with free radicals they are damaged. Unchecked that damage begins going through an uncontrolled growth and at some point this
once damaged cells has now become a tumor.

Informative Speech About Cancer
During our lifetime we have heard of many people or know people that have cancer time and time again. We see it from movies to stories we see
whether online or that we know. Most people know what it is but do we really know. Today I will talk about: General description of what cancer is,
biology of the disease, symptoms, treatments, genetics and information on how to deal with this situation if you have or know of somebody that has
cancer. At the end I hope you are inform what cancer is. Let talk first what cancer is and how is it form. In its simplest form cancer is an abnormal
growth of cells. It's that simple. When you have a cut your body has a way of repairing. The body sends signals to the body in order to tell cells to
start multiplying. The blood as a temporary barrier and cells start doing their job. However, sometimes the cells start acting abnormal. They repair the
cut but continue to multiple. They continue until they infect the whole body. In the early stages it can be stopped if detected early, however if it's on
an advance stage doctors can't do anything. The older we get the higher the change in getting cancer. According to theAmerican Cancer Society, Cancer
is one of the most common cause of death in the US and accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths. In fact, cancer is consistent in hitting the top 5 in
ways people pass away from. The World Health Organization estimates that, worldwide, there were 14 million new cancer cases and 8.2 million

Should Cancer Patients Use Nanotechnology Essay
Should Cancer Patients use Nanotechnology?
Did you know that about 1,688,780 new types of cancer have been found in the United States, killing more than 600,920 people? Cancer has been
known as the second leading cause of death in the United States just after Chronic Heart Disease. Fortunately, researchers have found a way to prevent
and cure cancer and that is by using Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is a branch in the science field that deals with dimensions less than 100
nanometers, which is about a billionth of a meter. Furthermore, scientists predict that Nanotechnology can lead to a breakthrough in the medical field of
Oncology. Not only that, but researchers have now found a way to "tune" the nanoparticles so that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the drug presented in the microbot can produce more RNA to help defeat the cancerous cells and tumors.
Lastly, Nanotechnology can help doctors find cancer cells in a patient and they have the opportunity to give early medications to the patients diagnosed
with cancer. Currently, doctors can use Nanotechnology to detect the minuscule cancer tumors present in millimeters of saliva and blood. As illustrated
in the research done by the Stanford University, "We can now detect just a few cancer–associated molecules or circulating tumor cells in the body in
just a few milliliters of blood or saliva, or map the boundaries of a brain tumor within millimeters to assess its response to therapy or to plan a
surgery," Rajiv Gambhir said. "We've specially designed nanoparticles that can send back a massively amplified, whopping signal when they bind to
cancer cells in the colon, and we're working on ways to trigger the self–assembly of nanoparticles when they enter a cancer cell. The field has advanced
tremendously in the past 10 to 15 years" (Gambhir). Therefore, if doctors can detect cancer tumors or cancer cells in the body, then they can offer
required diagnostics and early treatment to the patient before the tumor develops and starts to multiply. As shown above, cancer can be detected when
it is at an early stage

Ewing's Sarcoma Case Study
Ewing's Sarcoma Ewing's sarcoma is a rare bone cancer.1–3 Ewing's sarcoma is from the Ewing's family of tumors.1–9 There are three types of Ewing
tumors in bone and they include a classic Ewing's sarcoma, a primitive neuroectodermal tumor or PNET, and Askin tumor which is a PNET of the
chest wall. Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. It accounts for 2% of all childhood
cancers.1–3 Ewing's sarcoma accounts for approximately 10–15% of all primary bone tumors.2 It is slightly more common in males than females. The
ratio has been described as 2:1 and 1.5:1.1–4 It was first discovered in 1921 by James Ewing.1,5 Ewing's sarcoma is more common in Caucasians. It
was described as a "diffuse endothelioma of bone" by Ewing.4 Ewing's sarcoma can affect any bone. The most common sites are the lower extremities
and pelvis.1–4 Tumors can occur in bone or soft tissue (extraosseous). This paper will discuss the causes, the signs and symptoms, diagnosis,
treatment and prognosis of the disease. The causes of Ewing's sarcoma are not fully understood and the exact cause is unknown. Injury or trauma to
the bone can be a possible cause. Prior high dose radiation could be a possible cause also. It is known that Ewing's sarcoma is a result of a genetic
translocation between chromosomes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rarely Ewing's sarcoma has been seen in siblings. There are no real definitive risk factors, environmental factors or prevention factors. Usually,
Ewing's sarcoma develops during puberty. This is due to the bones growing rapidly during this stage of adolescence. Ewing's sarcoma can occur
anywhere in the body. Most often, Ewing's sarcoma will develop in the long bones of the arms and legs, but may also occur in the pelvis or the chest.
The location of the primary tumor will greatly impact the treatment and the prognosis or outlook. Ewing's sarcoma may also occur in the skull and may

Lung Cancer Research Paper
Cancer affects everyone at some point in their life, whether it be themselves or a relative. For myself, it was niece that was diagnosed with leukemia.
While scientists have identified countless carcinogens, there still isn't an exact science on how to avoid cancer. "Leukemia is the most common type
of childhood malignancy under the age of 15" 1, and it makes me wonder what these kids at such a young age are predisposed to, that makes them
more susceptible. When I think about cancer I associate it with radiation whether it be treatment or cause. Ionizing radiation is a known carcinogen
and can increase the risk of developing Leukemia. What about radon? The radioactive gas we are subject to every day. My niece lives in an older

Although the price of $3.99 is unbeatable for consumers looking for some cheap shampoo, consumers need to realize the impact these ingredients can

Just last year, when I come across this heartbreaking story about a young mother Kaley Fitzsimmons. As an sport instructor and a mother of a young
beautiful daughter, Ms. Fitzsimmons dreams is to be there to watch her daughter grow up. But after 9 months fighting Osteosarcoma, a common type
of bone cancer that found in growing bones, she has peacefully passed away on July 15, 2015, according to Daily Mail, a news from UK.
Additionally, On July 17, 2015, in Medical News Today, a health information site I learned that cancer is the second most common cause of death in
America with 14 million new cancer cases and 8.2 million cancer–related deaths in 2012 according to their most recent data. In a few minutes I will

Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer
The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause cancer. "More than one million people in the United
States (US) get cancer each year" (American Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar
each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015–2020, individuals should not consume more than 10% of their
calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated
with cancer, "diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone" (Oncology Nutrition, 2016).
The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great importance to the public. Everyone should be
informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake
with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been done on the topic. The University of
Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar
(Espat, 2015). However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, 2012) reports that elevated blood sugar
levels lead to mutations in DNA, which

Should Medical Marijuana Be Legalized?

which was used for a lot of economical purposes. I'm going to be focusing on the medical benefits of this drug, in order to give you good reasons as
to why it should be legalized. This drug has been found to help patients with cancer, epilepsy, depression, asthma, and fibromyalgia. It is more than a
drug that one smokes to get high, and marijuana could be the reason that people get a chance to really live their lives. Firstly, medical marijuana has
been found to significantly reduce the effects of chemotherapy. Often times patients who undergo this treatment face horrible bouts of nausea, and with
the help of marijuana it will greatly diminish it. There are two types of drugs that contain marijuana compounds in them that can be consumed by
cancer patients. They're known as Marinol, and Cesamet. Both treat nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemo. Some chemicals found in
marijuana can also slow the growth of cancer cells in the body. According to TheAmerican Cancer Society, "scientists reported that THC and other

In Mary Wollstonecraft's Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise...
Mary Wollstonecraft, an American writer and advocate for women's rights from the late 1700s, was born into a world much different from modern
Western society. As Wollstonecraft explains in her passage, "Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural Distinctions Established in
Society," eighteenth–century America granted women with hardly the same amount of privilege, opportunity, andeducation as it granted men.
Wollstonecraft also explains how wealth often corrupts both women and men. Since Wollstonecraft's time, women's struggles have yielded victories
that have led to advancements toward a more equal society, although inequality and corruption among the wealthy still remains to this day.
Women in Wollstonecraft's time were only valued for their attractiveness, were only useful for their role as a mother, and were not given the right to
an education nor the right to jobs. Wollstonecraft observes that "when a women is admired for her beauty, she suffers herself to be...intoxicated by the
admiration she receives as to neglect...the indispensable duty of a mother, she sins against herself by neglecting to cultivate an affection that would
equally tend to make her useful and happy" (Wollstonecraft 6). In other words, women getting so wrapped up in presenting themselves as beautiful in
order to meet society's standards then completely neglect their natural role as a mother that would make them "useful" by society's standards by
fulfilling the only role they really could at the time: a mother. Instead of being praised for being a virtuous mother, women were valued solely for their
sexual attractiveness. Once their beauty fades and they have already birthed and raised their children, as Wollstonecraft states, "let them not expect to
be valued" (32). During Wollstonecraft's time, a typical woman was "dependent on her husband's bounty for her subsistence during his life or support
after his death" (19). A woman did not have any other job than to be impregnated and raise her husband's offspring, meaning she had to be financially
dependent on her husband. Women could not "study the art of healing" nor "be physicians [or] nurses"–jobs Wollstonecraft argued "women might
certainly study" given the opportunity

The Role Of Cancer In Men
Many Americans and individuals worldwide live with one of the most deadly diseases, cancer (American Cancer Society (ACS), 2015). ACS (2015)
defines cancer as a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissues. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the
world today. Although both men and women can contract the disease, genetic studies show that 1 in 3 American men will suffer some form ofcancer
during their long or short lifespan. There are numerous kinds of cancer that affect different parts of your body. However, in American men the three
most common life–threatening cancers target the colon and rectum, lungs, pancreas and liver.

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Many of the colorectal cancers
develop from precanurous polyps. Polyps are growths that rise in the lining of the colon and can be visible when the bowel is examined by
endoscopy. There are two types of polyps: Aderiomatous and hyperplasic polyps. Aderiomatous polyps can become cancerous over the time and
progress takes at least ten years in most men. Signs of colon cancer include a change in your bowel system (diarrhea or constipation or a change in
the constant of your stool) that last for more than four weeks. Rectal signs are bleeding or blood in your stool. Many people may feel discomfort,
such as pain or cramps. Others may even become weak or even fatigue. Multiple people who have colon cancer may experience no symptoms in the
early stages of the disease. When the symptoms finally appear, they will likely vary, depending on the cancers size and the location in your large
intestine. The primary goal of the screenings is to prevent deaths from colon cancer. Screening test can help identify cancers at an early and
potentially at a curable stage. Screening can even prevent you from also true development of cancer by identifying and treating precancerous
abnormal growths that can be removed before they become malignant. Physicians recommend that adults undergo colon cancer screening starting at
the age 50 or maybe even earlier just depending on their risk of developing colorectal cancer. The screening tests are currently available each of which
has advantages and disadvantages. Treatment for colon cancer is based on how severe the stage of cancer, but there are other important factors. People

Persuasive Essay On Smokeless Tobacco
Hank, you know that you are my boss, a father figure in my life, a mentor, and one of my best friends. I couldn't ask for anyone better than you and
I cannot thank you enough for all the things you have done for me over the last two years. One think that I have noticed though is that you love
your smokeless tobacco. Don't get me wrong, where I come from almost everyone uses tobacco in some type of way, especially in the military, but
you mean a lot to me Hank and I want you to be aware of the risk you're really taking when you use the snus and chewing tobacco.
Let's just start with one of the main reasons on why using smokeless tobacco is bad for you, it contains multitude of chemicals, some of which cause
cancer. Of some of the 4,000+ chemicals found in a can of chewing tobacco (The Effects Of Physical Withdrawal, 2013), some of these include;
formaldehyde, arsenic, polonium–210 (nuclear waste), cadmium (car battery additive), acetone (paint stripper), ammonia, and Nitrosamines. According
to the American Cancer Society, that least thirty (30) of these chemicals found in smokeless tobacco are cancer causing agents. (Berger, 2015) Of these
cancer causing chemical, the most harmful are "Tobacco–Specific Nitrosamines (TSNAs)" Some of the cancers that smokeless tobacco can attribute
too include, but are not limited to; mouth, tongue, cheek, gum, esophageal, and pancreatic. (Berger, 2015) Hank, I know that you're probably heard
all of this before, but I've heard your excuse before "It's a safer alternative than cigarettes." Hank, have you ever read one of the front labels found on
most cans that state, "This product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes."
I know you find that putting a nice "wad" of chewing tobacco, or maybe one of the new pouches in helps you relieve a good amount of stress in that

Taking a Look at Pediatric Cancer
As established in the National Cancer Institute, "Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide for children and adolescents in America, accounting
for more than 91,250 children that lose their lives to this disease" (National Cancer Institute). Cancer is not considered a terminal illness, but more of a
chronic illness because of the intense treatment that the individual has to endure. As a result of this treatment the chances of survival for children
suffering from pediatric cancer has increased around 80 percent. The increment in the survival rate has made it possible for many parents to not have to
go through the acceptance that they are about to lose their child to a terminal illness, but have coping strategies that will make them adapt to the fear of
the reoccurrence of that illness. This illness has a great impact on the patient as well as the family because not only do they have to adapt to this illness
physically, but also mentally. Research has shown that there are both short term and long term effects that come into effect when the child is both in
treatment and also years after the treatment. The type of cancers that these adolescents have to endure range from leukemia, brain tumors and other
cancerous tumors that have appeared in recent medical studies. These tumors can either be benignant, an acute case that is non–cancerous or
malignant, a cancerous case that will need intense treatment over an extended period of time. While many would say there is more of a

Disadvantages Of Decriminalizing Marijuana
In the past several years there have been many changes that have occurred in the American lifestyle. Some of these changes have afforded the public
amazing new opportunities for better lives; others have caused changes which may take several more years to fix. The tricky part about change is the
fact that it is never easy to know whether the effects of it will equal out to more good than bad. This is why this paper will attempt to assess the
advantages and disadvantages of decriminalizing marijuana, so a better estimate of the consequences can be made. Recent Developments One factor
that makes the question of whether or not marijuana should be legalized even more interesting is recent events. These recent events include the fact
that marijuana has not only been medically legalized, but now it has begun to be recreationally legalized. California is front and center in development
by allowing anyone twenty–one and above to purchase marijuana, but they are not the only ones who will be legalizing it soon according to the news.
According to Newsweek, up to twelve states are considering legalizing marijuana for recreational use starting this year. This new development promises
to bring an interesting twist to the already heated debate, which is why it is important to move on to discussing the advantages and disadvantages to
legalizing marijuana. Decriminalizing Advantages With the recent developments in mind, it is time to take a look at the advantages that could come

The Accomplishment of Gertrude B. Elion
Elion accomplished a lot in her 81 years working. She started out teaching biochemistry at New York hospital school of nursing, and then she was
an unpaid chemistry lab assistant. She stuck with this job, hoping to eventually get paid and even made $20 a week, which is one of the reasons
she was able to attend New York University (Koenig, 2006). She scrimped and saved and had help from her boyfriend, Leonard Canter
(McGrayne, 2002). While in school, she taught as a teacher in training as well as a substitute (Elion, 1988). At the same time she was doing
research for her Master's at night and on the weekends to keep up. She eventually got a job doing analytical work for a food company. She did gain
excellent instrumentation skills in this job even though she thought of it as quite boring. After this, Johnson and Johnson hired her, but that was
short lived. Many people wanted to work with Elion, but she refused many job offers and agreed to work with George Hitchings at Burroughs
Wellcome Company. IV: Scientific Contributions George Hitchings allowed Elion a lot more freedom. She was able to perform research at her own
pace, which she loved because she was highly motivated to learn as much as possible, as fast as possible. She got involved with areas outside of
chemistry, like immunology, pharmacology, and virology (McGrayne, 2002). Little was known about enzymes or nucleic acids at the time, so her
main focus was on purines. Hitchings would always let Elion know that he was

A Research Career As An Experimental Physical Chemist
My desire is to continue a research career as an experimental physical chemist. I am grateful that I have found my passion that I found early in life
and have been supported by my family and society. My educational experiences in Korea and the U.S. have demonstrated to me that the social support
and infrastructure are immensely important for individuals to live out their passion, especially in the STEM field. As a female physical chemist who
pursues an academic research, I will strive to contribute to making an inclusive and supportive scientific community.
Basic scientific research was not an obvious career path for me as a student who went to a public girl 's high school in Korea. The belief that girls are
not apt for challenges in male–dominant STEM careers discourage women participation, and many women struggle with social barriers to continue
careers in the physical sciences or engineering. Like most of the high school students, I had to choose either the science/math concentrated or the
humanities/social science concentrated curriculum, and I was among twenty percent of the girls in my high school who chose the former. The common
perception that there are no ample research funding, job opportunities, and a bright future for those who pursue basic science, makes pure scientific
research an unpopular path. With was lucky that I could pay attention to what resonated with me and decided to study chemistry.

leading causes of stress related illnesses. Most importantly, (Hoover, 2000) notes that genetic and lifestyle factors are among a few that simple
answers to why some people can maintain their health, while others become ill. Most people believe that biological factors play a huge role in

Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States of America. With heart attacks leading the way, (American Heart
Association, 2000a) the ways in which people work, exercise, etc, has much to do with their risk to develop (CHD) Coronary Heart Disease. The
second is that of Cancer. Cancer has been noted as being the "number one killer in women within the United States, and the number two killer of men."
(National Cancer Society, 2001) Psychology has made an astonishing mark in understanding and managing patients that suffer with these two health
problems. While psychology have suggested that adopting healthier habits will increase an individual's risk of developing Coronary Heart Disease,
there are also many other factors to consider when adopting this change. One such change would be exercising regularly, and if a smoker, stop
immediately. Psychology has used such steps to assist the individual suffering from theillness, possibly to limit the short–term difficulties that the
health problem most probably will bring in the long–term. There are other types of assistance that psychology offers to ill individuals in reference to
Coronary Heart Disease, another being avoidance of high energy job titles that many people who developed CHD currently have or have had in the

Plastic Surgery Of Food
"The Plastic Surgery of Food"
According to Michio Kushi & Alex Jack (2009), authors of The Cancer Prevention Diet, "Cancer of the large intestine, including the colon and rectum,
is the second most deadly cancer in the United States, also the third most common cancer in men and women (253). Statistics show that there has been
an increase over the last decade. Scientists have even been able to link increased or decreased cancer patterns throughout history with the foods being
consumed during that specific era. Processed foods are a lead contributor to the rising cancer rates in America.
First, let's understand what processed foods are. Processed foods are classified as any food that has been altered from its natural state. Processed foods
include canning, freezing, ready–to–eat food, multi–ingredient, baking, drying and formulated mixtures. Process foods come in many variations. "A
nationwide analysis of U.S. grocery purchases reveals that highly processed foods make up more than 60% of the calories in the food we buy
("Highly Processed Foods Dominate U.S. Grocery Purchases"). Processed foods also include processed meats such as luncheon meats, hot dogs, ham,
bacon, pepperoni & salami. Those foods are linked to an increase in bowel, stomach, and pancreatic cancers. It's partially attributed to the meats
because it is preserved in large amounts of salt and has nitrosamines and how we cook these meats. It is found that cooking meats at high temperatures

A Case Study Of Rare And Less Common Cancers
During the previous year, 42,000 Australians were diagnosed with rare or less common (RLC) cancers and a staggering 24,000 patients died from it.
Australia is known to have one of the best cancer survival rates, so how is this happening in our society? Although research and treatment of common
cancers such as breast cancer have been efficiently funded by the government, RLC cancers are lacking substantially in all aspects. This issue needs to
be addressed as it has led to critical deficiencies in the scientific establishment of rare cancers, significantly lower survival rates and difficulties in
treatmentment access. In order to prevent the existence of such inequalities, it is vital that the government must provide supplementary ... Show more

Rare Cancers Australia chairman Richard Vines affirmed, "...the lack of research means the lack of clinical knowledge." He discussed how people
with rare cancer don't have that "brilliant...researcher who is the pick of the bunch for that particular cancer type." The Just A Little More Time report
released by Rare Cancer Australia in 2016 consists of statistics which clearly outlines the difference between the survival rates of common and RLC
cancers. It was observed that while the incidence rates (number of diagnoses annually) of common cancers increased over the past decades, the
mortality rates (number of deaths annually) have declined significantly. This ratio of incidence–to–mortality presented increasing survival rates, due to
sufficient investment in their research and treatment. However, the story is very different for the people diagnosed with RLC cancers. The incidence
rates of RLC cancers are closely followed by its mortality rates, both twice that of Australia's population growth. Such circumstances suggested that
survival rates of RLC cancers remain low as a consequence of defective progress in diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, inadequacy of treatment
funding for RLC cancers negatively impacted the treatment availability for RLC cancer patients. Tracey Trumper, a survivor ofbreast cancer and
non–smoker, had to face yet another devastating news of having diagnosed with a

Cancer : A Leading Cause Death Worldwide
B.1. English Abstract
According to the World Health Organization, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and has the most devastating economic impact of any
cause of death in the world. One of the leading causes of cancer–related mortality is gastric cancer, and that is due to the low rate of its diagnosis in its'
early stages as unfortunately, even the methods available for early detection of gastric cancer such as tumor biomarkers, are not very sensitive or
efficient. Therefore, this proposal aims at non–invasive early detection of gastric cancer by firstly separating the blood plasma proteins albumin and
globulin from mice with gastric cancer and healthy mice using chromatography, then enhancing them with biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles,
and finally performing spectral analysis using surface–enhanced Raman spectroscopy, which is expected to provide information–filled, unique
signatures of the biochemical components of whole proteins and clear non–overlapping peaks and clusters where the gastric cancer group can be
explicitly distinguished from the normal group with 100% diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.

– What content are visitors viewing very briefly versus viewing for an extended period of time?
There are so many drill down possibilities from those 3 questions alone that can lead significant website content improvement. The art of web analytics

These metrics create a reasonable summary of how many different individuals are visiting a site over a period of time. Individuals are a defined by a
cookie ID that is assigned when a new IP address attempts to access a website. It is visitor behavior that is studied for the goal of optimizing a website

– Information seekers were gathering the necessary information by viewing the appropriate pages.
– Event participants were completing registration.

By looking at these areas quantitatively, the American Cancer Society was able to understand where areas of improvements needed to be made. This

Informative Speech On Cancer Essay
There are over 300 different kinds of cancer in the world. That's a pretty scary number. If you don't know anyone close to you or around you having
cancer, you will. If you do know a family member who has cancer, your risks just increased. There is a 2–3% chance that out of every 100 cancers that
you can develop the same cancer if a relative has that type of cancer. Certain factors that can contribute to this are two or more people on the same
side (either father's or mother's) of the family that has developed that cancer, a relative developed the cancer at a young age, or a relative has
developed two different types of cancer. Most of these cancers are caused by a faulty gene that is passed down from generation to generation.

Effects Of Chemistry On The Environment
There is no doubt that our knowledge of science and scientific procedures have changed over time. As new tools and technologies that appeared
during the 20th century, chemistry, physics, biology, and other sciences were able to grow and develop at a faster pace. These advances in science
have helped humanity by increasing living standards and have brought more widespread wellness to society. For instance, because of the existence of
chemistry, society has been provided with more advanced medicine, fabrics for clothes, plastics, rubber, componds of personal care products, parts of
cars, home appliances, computers and more. Society has benefited from chemistry; however, our environment is harmed by the consequences of
chemistry as well. "Many chemicals are used to improve the quality of our lives, and most are not harmful to the environment or human health.
However, some chemicals have the potential to cause harm..." (Government of Canada, 2011).
The consequence of these modern innovations is that the chemical industry has had extremely harmful consequences on the environment. The emissions
of greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect, water pollution, the decrease of biodiversity and the impact on human health are consistent and growing
effects of the chemical industry and its activities. When chemicals are manufactured, consumed or thrown away, they are able to infiltrate not just the
water cycle but also the air and even the ground soil. Depending on the number of polluting

20–tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II) showed good catalytic activity towards oxidation of 3,5–di–tert–butylcatechol to 3,5–di–tert–butyl–benzoquinone
by dioxygen in dimethylformamide. The oxidation reaction was followed by measuring dioxygen uptake. The rate constant of oxidation reaction
showed a linear dependence on catalyst concentration and saturation kinetics in both 3,5–di–tert–butylcatechol concentration and dioxygen pressure.
The kinetic parameters have been determined using Michaelis–Menten approach. A mechanism has been suggested for the oxidation reaction.

Breast cancer exists today as a vicious disease which has multiple facets for killing its host. The largest indicator of survival rate is length of time
alive after diagnosis with the disease, and then whether or not the disease has metastasized to a new location in the body. For breast cancer patients, the
5–year survival rate of patients below Stage 4 is 90%. The stages below the 4 stage represent the stages where the breast cancer has not metastasized

Enrichment would not work for this type of analysis as it does not separate the targeted analyte, rather it raises the concentration of the analyte that is
involved. Knowing that purification is the type of separation that is to be used, the analyte has to be prepared for analysis by permethylating the
glycans preemptively for HPLC, LC–MS, or HILIC. Each respectively stands for High–Power Liquid Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography/Mass
Spectrometry, or hydrophilic interaction chromatography. The most common to use is LC–MS as the analyte of interest can be separated and purified
for mass spectrometric analysis. Permethylation to understand is a common derivatization method for enhancing ionization efficiency in MS analysis
and improves the overall structural stability of the glycan analyte. Later once the analyte is permethylated it is allowed to run through liquid
chromatography which separates the analytes by intensity (quantity) and size, which gives the ability to select the analyte of interest. The selection is
done with knowledge of what the analyte of interest is before starting the procedure. After the analyte of interest is purified through LC (liquid

I Am My Graduate Career
When I began my undergraduate career, I had no inkling of what I wanted to do in the future. It was early on that I discovered my passion for
chemistry, math and physics classes which galvanized my hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was stirred
largely by my first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during anAmerican Chemical Society meeting. I was so engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis
and piezoelectrics that I walked up to him as soon as the meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group.
I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Through a combination of
independent research, advice from mentors, and on–the–job industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical
engineering. The broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of engineering. With chemical,

The Four Stages Of Breast Cancer

  • 1. The Four Stages Of Breast Cancer Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. The medical definition of breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society is " a malignant tumor that starts in cells of the breast". there are two different kinds of breast cancer, Noninvasive or invasive. Which then categorizes the cancer into four stages. depending on the size, and the location of the cancer as well as invasive or noninvasive. The development of the cancer is unknown, it has been around since the beginning of time. Early physicians rarely mentioned the cancer in their medical books since it was considered strange and taboo. Which led to never researching the cause of the deformity of the breast. In those days and times if the breast were deformed it was embarrassment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the years, the treatment of breast cancer has expanded. Treatments are considered in two different categories such as local therapy and systemic therapy. Local therapy consist of surgery and radiation, which will remove the cancer cells without disturbing the rest of the body. Systemic therapy uses the drugs to reach the cancer cells, which consists of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy and bone directed therapy. Also treatment can be classified as adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy. The adjuvant therapy consist of the systemic therapy. The neoadjuvant therapy is when chemotherapy or radiation is given to in order to shrink the the tumor before the surgery, so the surgery will be less extensive. In the event of surgery the option of breast conserving surgery or a mastectomy. A mastectomy is when one or both breast are surgically removed. Either partially or completely the whole breast is removed. There are three types of mastectomy which include simple mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy and radical mastectomy. The difference between the three is how much is left after the surgery, for example the simple mastectomy removes the whole breast including the nipple. While the skin sparing mastectomy will leave majority of the skin for reconstruction surgery can take place. Lastly the radical mastectomy is when the the whole breast and axillary lymph nodes plus the chest wall muscle is removed. Breast conserving surgery is used for women in stage one and stage two. This surgery option only removes the cancerous part of the breast. After every surgery there are typical pain and swelling side effects, other side effects with an mastectomy and breast conserving surgery are scaring tissues. Radiation therapy is the treatment of high energy rays that target the cancer cell. Its also used to help when the cancer spreads. There are two different ways to give radiation. External beam ... • 2. Advancements And Advancements Of Technology Matthew Kivlahan Ms. Maynard ENG 3U1 Friday, October 3, 2014 Positive Developments in Technology Advancements and innovations in all fields are necessary if humanity wishes to create a brighter and better future. Technology that has been created and improved throughout the recent decades is proof of this philosophy. Medical innovations, such as the MRI machine and advanced disease treatments, have helped to reduce deaths over the last half–century. With new diseases and complications arising frequently, keeping up with the times becomes a vital matter – and recent inventions have made sure that lives are preserved rather than destroyed. Another area of interest is the internet, which allows people to access a wealth of information and communicate with others from around the world. Computers, satellites, and other tech are related to this subject, and all components combine to form a network that offers our world a collective database – an notion that would have seemed outrageous more than 50 years ago. Technology is even allowing humankind to extend our reach beyond our Earth – our solar system can be explored thanks to inventions made since the Cold War 's "space race". Rockets, probes, and other developments have made the vast unknown less daunting – and also furthered our knowledge of chemical composition, elements, and other related scientific principles. By saving and improving lives, technology has had a profound positive impact on the world over the last 50 years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A New Concept IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However, there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty–five years (Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency on artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy density (open plan offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation techniques (air tight buildings, re–circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. The US's Toxic Substances Strategy Committee stated that the majority of cancers (80–90%) are triggered by exposure to substances in the environment (Landrigan et al., 2002). According to a 5–year–study carried out by the US Environmental Protection Agency (Greenfield, 1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds, some linked with cancer and birth defects, were 200–500 times higher inside than outdoors. It is necessary to note that these figures are based on US values and there is a need to exhibit caution in applying them directly to the UK in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Prevention And The Prevention Of Cancer In an attempt to keep anyone from wasting their time reading an article that does not apply to them we need to clearly define the subject of this article. If you are comfortable with waiting for a miracle drug to cure cancer, expecting that early detection through any number of exams at your physicians ' office followed by chemotherapy in an attempt to kill the now detectable cancer cells, then this article is not for you. If however, you would prefer to avoid cancer totally by preventing it before it starts, then please read on. When addressing nutrition and the prevention of cancer one of the hottest topics in this arena at this time are antioxidants. The primary reason that antioxidants have received increasing attention is based on the very nature of cancer cells themselves, how they are started and more importantly how they can be eliminated before becoming detectable. For most forms of cancer, they get their start when your cell 's DNA becomes damage in some form. Keep in mind that your body is generating new cells on a daily basis and that these new cells are being created based on the blue print of how they should be constructed. That blue print is your DNA. When your DNA has become damaged or during the creation process of these new cells they come in contact with free radicals they are damaged. Unchecked that damage begins going through an uncontrolled growth and at some point this once damaged cells has now become a tumor. While there is a lot of talk about ... Today I will talk about: General description of what cancer is, biology of the disease, symptoms, treatments, genetics and information on how to deal with this situation if you have or know of somebody that has cancer. At the end I hope you are inform what cancer is. Let talk first what cancer is and how is it form. In its simplest form cancer is an abnormal growth of cells. It's that simple. When you have a cut your body has a way of repairing. The body sends signals to the body in order to tell cells to start multiplying. The blood as a temporary barrier and cells start doing their job. However, sometimes the cells start acting abnormal. They repair the cut but continue to multiple. They continue until they infect the whole body. In the early stages it can be stopped if detected early, however if it's on an advance stage doctors can't do anything. The older we get the higher the change in getting cancer. • 6. Should Cancer Patients Use Nanotechnology Essay Should Cancer Patients use Nanotechnology? Did you know that about 1,688,780 new types of cancer have been found in the United States, killing more than 600,920 people? Cancer has been known as the second leading cause of death in the United States just after Chronic Heart Disease. Fortunately, researchers have found a way to prevent and cure cancer and that is by using Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is a branch in the science field that deals with dimensions less than 100 nanometers, which is about a billionth of a meter. Furthermore, scientists predict that Nanotechnology can lead to a breakthrough in the medical field of Oncology. Not only that, but researchers have now found a way to "tune" the nanoparticles so that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the drug presented in the microbot can produce more RNA to help defeat the cancerous cells and tumors. Lastly, Nanotechnology can help doctors find cancer cells in a patient and they have the opportunity to give early medications to the patients diagnosed with cancer. Currently, doctors can use Nanotechnology to detect the minuscule cancer tumors present in millimeters of saliva and blood. As illustrated in the research done by the Stanford University, "We can now detect just a few cancer–associated molecules or circulating tumor cells in the body in just a few milliliters of blood or saliva, or map the boundaries of a brain tumor within millimeters to assess its response to therapy or to plan a surgery," Rajiv Gambhir said. "We've specially designed nanoparticles that can send back a massively amplified, whopping signal when they bind to cancer cells in the colon, and we're working on ways to trigger the self–assembly of nanoparticles when they enter a cancer cell. The field has advanced tremendously in the past 10 to 15 years" (Gambhir). Therefore, if doctors can detect cancer tumors or cancer cells in the body, then they can offer required diagnostics and early treatment to the patient before the tumor develops and starts to multiply. As shown above, cancer can be detected when it is at an early stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ewing's Sarcoma Case Study Ewing's Sarcoma Ewing's sarcoma is a rare bone cancer.1–3 Ewing's sarcoma is from the Ewing's family of tumors.1–9 There are three types of Ewing tumors in bone and they include a classic Ewing's sarcoma, a primitive neuroectodermal tumor or PNET, and Askin tumor which is a PNET of the chest wall. Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. It accounts for 2% of all childhood cancers.1–3 Ewing's sarcoma accounts for approximately 10–15% of all primary bone tumors.2 It is slightly more common in males than females. The ratio has been described as 2:1 and 1.5:1.1–4 It was first discovered in 1921 by James Ewing.1,5 Ewing's sarcoma is more common in Caucasians. It was described as a "diffuse endothelioma of bone" by Ewing.4 Ewing's sarcoma can affect any bone. The most common sites are the lower extremities and pelvis.1–4 Tumors can occur in bone or soft tissue (extraosseous). This paper will discuss the causes, the signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the disease. The causes of Ewing's sarcoma are not fully understood and the exact cause is unknown. Injury or trauma to the bone can be a possible cause. Prior high dose radiation could be a possible cause also. While scientists have identified countless carcinogens, there still isn't an exact science on how to avoid cancer. "Leukemia is the most common type of childhood malignancy under the age of 15" 1, and it makes me wonder what these kids at such a young age are predisposed to, that makes them more susceptible. When I think about cancer I associate it with radiation whether it be treatment or cause. Ionizing radiation is a known carcinogen and can increase the risk of developing Leukemia. What about radon? Cancer in a Bottle Carcinogens, which are cancer–causing substances, are found in incredibly startling amounts of consumer products that people use every day, including beauty or body care products such as shampoo and cosmetics. The carcinogens and other ingredients present in consumer products have been linked to many different kinds of cancers, endocrine disruption, developmental and reproductive toxicity, bioaccumulation, ecotoxicity, and changes in molecular structures, yet they are legally allowed to be in the goods people use daily. Nowhere on the packaging of the product does it mention a single word of caution about the ingredients present in the shampoo, but it does proudly display an award it won from 2011. Although the price of $3.99 is unbeatable for consumers looking for some cheap shampoo, consumers need to realize the impact these ingredients can have on their bodies and the environment – a cheap shampoo in the present could have a severe impact in the future, and those $3.99 bottles of shampoo could turn into $10,000 a month for cancer treatment or higher taxes to attempt cleaning up the environment of the toxins these products leave behind (Nicastro). As an sport instructor and a mother of a young beautiful daughter, Ms. Fitzsimmons dreams is to be there to watch her daughter grow up. • 12. Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause cancer. "More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year" (American Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015–2020, individuals should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with cancer, "diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone" (Oncology Nutrition, 2016). The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015). Mary Wollstonecraft, an American writer and advocate for women's rights from the late 1700s, was born into a world much different from modern Western society. As Wollstonecraft explains in her passage, "Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural Distinctions Established in Society," eighteenth–century America granted women with hardly the same amount of privilege, opportunity, andeducation as it granted men. Wollstonecraft also explains how wealth often corrupts both women and men. Since Wollstonecraft's time, women's struggles have yielded victories that have led to advancements toward a more equal society, although inequality and corruption among the wealthy still remains to this day. Women in Wollstonecraft's time were only valued for their attractiveness, were only useful for their role as a mother, and were not given the right to an education nor the right to jobs. Wollstonecraft observes that "when a women is admired for her beauty, she suffers herself to be...intoxicated by the admiration she receives as to neglect...the indispensable duty of a mother, she sins against herself by neglecting to cultivate an affection that would equally tend to make her useful and happy" (Wollstonecraft 6). In other words, women getting so wrapped up in presenting themselves as beautiful in order to meet society's standards then completely neglect their natural role as a mother that would make them "useful" by society's standards by fulfilling the only role they really could at the time: a mother. Instead of being praised for being a virtuous mother, women were valued solely for their sexual attractiveness. Once their beauty fades and they have already birthed and raised their children, as Wollstonecraft states, "let them not expect to be valued" (32). During Wollstonecraft's time, a typical woman was "dependent on her husband's bounty for her subsistence during his life or support after his death" (19). A woman did not have any other job than to be impregnated and raise her husband's offspring, meaning she had to be financially dependent on her husband. Women could not "study the art of healing" nor "be physicians [or] nurses"–jobs Wollstonecraft argued "women might certainly study" given the opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I couldn't ask for anyone better than you and I cannot thank you enough for all the things you have done for me over the last two years. One think that I have noticed though is that you love your smokeless tobacco. Don't get me wrong, where I come from almost everyone uses tobacco in some type of way, especially in the military, but you mean a lot to me Hank and I want you to be aware of the risk you're really taking when you use the snus and chewing tobacco. Let's just start with one of the main reasons on why using smokeless tobacco is bad for you, it contains multitude of chemicals, some of which cause cancer. Of some of the 4,000+ chemicals found in a can of chewing tobacco (The Effects Of Physical Withdrawal, 2013), some of these include; formaldehyde, arsenic, polonium–210 (nuclear waste), cadmium (car battery additive), acetone (paint stripper), ammonia, and Nitrosamines. According to the American Cancer Society, that least thirty (30) of these chemicals found in smokeless tobacco are cancer causing agents. (Berger, 2015) Of these cancer causing chemical, the most harmful are "Tobacco–Specific Nitrosamines (TSNAs)" Some of the cancers that smokeless tobacco can attribute too include, but are not limited to; mouth, tongue, cheek, gum, esophageal, and pancreatic. (Berger, 2015) Hank, I know that you're probably heard all of this before, but I've heard your excuse before "It's a safer alternative than cigarettes." Hank, have you ever read one of the front labels found on most cans that state, "This product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes." I know you find that putting a nice "wad" of chewing tobacco, or maybe one of the new pouches in helps you relieve a good amount of stress in that instance, but there are many different facts to that matter Hank. First off, nicotine is highly addictive (Health First) and being so addictive to something like nicotine will usually cause a dependency on the substance. Also, the problem doesn't just lie within the addiction to the nicotine and other chemicals within the tobacco, but also with developing the habit of using the smokeless tobacco. Taking a Look at Pediatric Cancer As established in the National Cancer Institute, "Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide for children and adolescents in America, accounting for more than 91,250 children that lose their lives to this disease" (National Cancer Institute). Cancer is not considered a terminal illness, but more of a chronic illness because of the intense treatment that the individual has to endure. As a result of this treatment the chances of survival for children suffering from pediatric cancer has increased around 80 percent. The increment in the survival rate has made it possible for many parents to not have to go through the acceptance that they are about to lose their child to a terminal illness, but have coping strategies that will make them adapt to the fear of the reoccurrence of that illness. This illness has a great impact on the patient as well as the family because not only do they have to adapt to this illness physically, but also mentally. Research has shown that there are both short term and long term effects that come into effect when the child is both in treatment and also years after the treatment. The type of cancers that these adolescents have to endure range from leukemia, brain tumors and other cancerous tumors that have appeared in recent medical studies. These tumors can either be benignant, an acute case that is non–cancerous or malignant, a cancerous case that will need intense treatment over an extended period of time. While many would say there is more of a ... This ratio of incidence–to–mortality presented increasing survival rates, due to sufficient investment in their research and treatment. However, the story is very different for the people diagnosed with RLC cancers. • 28. Cancer : A Leading Cause Death Worldwide B.1. English Abstract According to the World Health Organization, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and has the most devastating economic impact of any cause of death in the world. One of the leading causes of cancer–related mortality is gastric cancer, and that is due to the low rate of its diagnosis in its' early stages as unfortunately, even the methods available for early detection of gastric cancer such as tumor biomarkers, are not very sensitive or efficient. Therefore, this proposal aims at non–invasive early detection of gastric cancer by firstly separating the blood plasma proteins albumin and globulin from mice with gastric cancer and healthy mice using chromatography, then enhancing them with biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles, and finally performing spectral analysis using surface–enhanced Raman spectroscopy, which is expected to provide information–filled, unique signatures of the biochemical components of whole proteins and clear non–overlapping peaks and clusters where the gastric cancer group can be explicitly distinguished from the normal group with 100% diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. • 29. What Are Our Online Prospects? Every day, e–commerce websites, small to large, Esty.com user page to Amazon.com, ask the following the questions: – What are our online prospects viewing? – What are our customers buying and not buying? – What content are visitors viewing very briefly versus viewing for an extended period of time? There are so many drill down possibilities from those 3 questions alone that can lead significant website content improvement. The art of web analytics is used to answer those questions and many more. The key to website analytics is to effectively track behavior so that it can be studied and interpreted to provide meaning. Studying these behavioral patterns can be used to do anything from enhancing an organization's marketing strategies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These metrics create a reasonable summary of how many different individuals are visiting a site over a period of time. Individuals are a defined by a cookie ID that is assigned when a new IP address attempts to access a website. It is visitor behavior that is studied for the goal of optimizing a website a website. In 2012, the American Cancer Society utilized web analytics to understand how visitors interacted with their site. The American Cancer Society used visitor data to isolate individuals into three segments: information seekers, event participants and donors. Analytics allowed the American Cancer society to determine if: – Information seekers were gathering the necessary information by viewing the appropriate pages. – Event participants were completing registration. – A donation was made. By looking at these areas quantitatively, the American Cancer Society was able to understand where areas of improvements needed to be made. This is a very simplistic example of the metrics process: Define, Measure, Analyze, Action, Improve or Eliminate. However the example shows that any website can benefit from meaningful analytics. The American Cancer society utilized Google Analytics to view and tracks those metrics. Google Analytics is the most widely used, free, web analytics tool packaged with hundreds of different available metrics presented on fully customizable data dashboards. Organizations and ... • 30. Informative Speech On Cancer Essay There are over 300 different kinds of cancer in the world. That's a pretty scary number. If you don't know anyone close to you or around you having cancer, you will. If you do know a family member who has cancer, your risks just increased. There is a 2–3% chance that out of every 100 cancers that you can develop the same cancer if a relative has that type of cancer. Certain factors that can contribute to this are two or more people on the same side (either father's or mother's) of the family that has developed that cancer, a relative developed the cancer at a young age, or a relative has developed two different types of cancer. Most of these cancers are caused by a faulty gene that is passed down from generation to generation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Effects Of Chemistry On The Environment There is no doubt that our knowledge of science and scientific procedures have changed over time. As new tools and technologies that appeared during the 20th century, chemistry, physics, biology, and other sciences were able to grow and develop at a faster pace. These advances in science have helped humanity by increasing living standards and have brought more widespread wellness to society. For instance, because of the existence of chemistry, society has been provided with more advanced medicine, fabrics for clothes, plastics, rubber, componds of personal care products, parts of cars, home appliances, computers and more. Society has benefited from chemistry; however, our environment is harmed by the consequences of chemistry as well. The emissions of greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect, water pollution, the decrease of biodiversity and the impact on human health are consistent and growing effects of the chemical industry and its activities. When chemicals are manufactured, consumed or thrown away, they are able to infiltrate not just the water cycle but also the air and even the ground soil. Depending on the number of polluting ... • 33. Study Of The Oxidation Of 35 Di Tert Butylcatechol Study of the oxidation of 3,5–di–tert–butylcatechol with molecular oxygen catalyzed by of 5, 10, 15, 20–tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II). M. Hassanein, S. El–Khalafy*, S. Shendy Tanta University, Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, Tanta 31527, Egypt. Abstract 5, 10, 15, 20–tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II) showed good catalytic activity towards oxidation of 3,5–di–tert–butylcatechol to 3,5–di–tert–butyl–benzoquinone by dioxygen in dimethylformamide. The oxidation reaction was followed by measuring dioxygen uptake. The rate constant of oxidation reaction showed a linear dependence on catalyst concentration and saturation kinetics in both 3,5–di–tert–butylcatechol concentration and dioxygen pressure. The kinetic parameters have been determined using Michaelis–Menten approach. A mechanism has been suggested for the oxidation reaction. Keywords: Cobalt(II)porphyrin complex; oxidation; 3,5–di–tert–butyl– catechol; dioxygen oxygen; 3,5–di–tert–butylbenzoquinone. *Corresponding author. Tel.: +201008591157; fax: +20 403344352. • 34. Sensors And Contextual Health Essay Sensors & Contextual Health "Information is the lifeblood of medicine and health information technology is destined to be the circulatory system for that information – David Blumenthal" Sensors with context are core of IoT (Internet of Things) momentum and sensors are going to detect events or changes in the environment. The environment could be your home, city, park, factory, mall or a human body. Sensors could detect changes in your body, blood or tears and warn us about the diseases like diabetes, heart attack or cancer in advanced stages. There are lot of wearables that are equipped with sensors can bring context to the mix to save lives or increase life span. iTBra – early detection technology for breast cancer A smart bra, known as iTBra from Cyrcadia health consists of two wearable breath patches which detect circadian temperature changes with in the breast tissue. Temperature measurements are sequentially taken over time and anonymized data obtained from the smart bra is communicated to the Cyrcadia servers via smart phone. Cyrcadia's machine learning software, a series of algorithms categorize abnormal circadian patterns associated with the state of cancer. Smart patches are designed to be worn under any brassiere and can detect early signs of cancer at home, without radiation (no mammograms or ultrasound screenings). Abreast cancer examination could be completed by wearing the patches for 2 to 12 hours. So far it has been tested on 200 patients and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Severity Of Skin Cancer Skin cancer is the only form of cancer that is rapidly increasing each year in the United States, supported by the fact that "every 20 seconds someone is diagnosed with skin cancer, and one person dies nearly every hour" (Siegel, Victoria, P 117.) Skin cancer is growing and a multitude of people are constantly being diagnosed. It is the nurses' responsibility to inform their patients about skin cancer while they are in for a check up. Nurses spend more time with their patients than doctors' do, therefore they could educate them and look for possible skin lesions. In order to understand the severity of skin cancer, professors must educate nursing students on the causes, treatments and ways to detect and prevent skin cancer. The reason why ... • 36. Breast Cancer Essay Breast cancer exists today as a vicious disease which has multiple facets for killing its host. The largest indicator of survival rate is length of time alive after diagnosis with the disease, and then whether or not the disease has metastasized to a new location in the body. For breast cancer patients, the 5–year survival rate of patients below Stage 4 is 90%. The stages below the 4 stage represent the stages where the breast cancer has not metastasized into other regions of the body. Whenbreast cancer metastasizes into another region of the body, the 5–year survival rate of these individuals drops to 22%. The most common places of metastasis include the brain, liver, and lungs. Enrichment would not work for this type of analysis as it does not separate the targeted analyte, rather it raises the concentration of the analyte that is involved. Knowing that purification is the type of separation that is to be used, the analyte has to be prepared for analysis by permethylating the glycans preemptively for HPLC, LC–MS, or HILIC. Each respectively stands for High–Power Liquid Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, or hydrophilic interaction chromatography. The most common to use is LC–MS as the analyte of interest can be separated and purified for mass spectrometric analysis. Permethylation to understand is a common derivatization method for enhancing ionization efficiency in MS analysis and improves the overall structural stability of the glycan analyte. Later once the analyte is permethylated it is allowed to run through liquid chromatography which separates the analytes by intensity (quantity) and size, which gives the ability to select the analyte of interest. The selection is done with knowledge of what the analyte of interest is before starting the procedure. After the analyte of interest is purified through LC (liquid chromatography) it is taken over to the mass spectrometry machine where the sample is then broken down into the various components. The various components are then broken off one by one slowly until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
