Q6. evaluation
1. Q6. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. When creating our thriller piece, several technologies had to be
used in the process. My blog, which was essential for all of my
ideas, was created using Wordpress. This was a helpful site and the
ease of use made it simple to add all of my progress whilst
researching, planning and filming my production piece. I have
learnt that various types of technology can be used and inputted
on this website to make my information appealing and noticeable.
This site was crucial to the start of my data collection and I was
able to build my work around it. When constructing the thriller
opening, I had to use this blog to update each step I had completed
regularly to show my progress. It allows you to insert small or large
sections of information with options such as adding your own
media, such as pictures, which was especially helpful when adding
my research and planning.
3. A second media technology that was key to portray my work
was Slideshare. With this, I could upload a PowerPoint
presentation and then post it onto my blog. This made my
data much more interesting, rather than typing it all out. I
have learnt that the various ways in which information is
presented will determine how creative it will appear. This site
helped me produce work, such as my analysis, which was
helpful to put across each of my points clearly and in a way
where the information wasn’t overloading.
4. Prezi is an interactive presentation where all of my information
can be displayed in a more exciting way. As this was the first
time I have created a prezi, I found it easy to use and learnt
that adding a prezi to my website would improve the
appearance and add variety. It allowed me to add information
I had already gathered whilst entering new information as
well. The background and appearance are very easy to
manipulate and customize with a wide range of options. I was
also able to add my own images to connect with my text.
5. When filming, we used a HD video camera. Although I have
used this device previous to filming our thriller piece, I wasn’t
able to shoot a professional looking film which was my aim for
this piece. To achieve this, I had to first practice shooting
footage with the camera and then expanding what I already
knew. As it was HD, the video created a professional and
clearer appearance. I was then able to use the camera to get
angles and movements we wanted to include in our thriller. I
had to be careful whilst using it as I didn’t want any errors,
such as shaky camera shots to happen, as this is what
previously happened during our continuity task. Approaching
the end of filming, I was very confident with using the camera
and had learnt a large amount of how to use it appropriately.
6. After the filming was completed, we had to upload the footage
onto imovies. When uploaded, it was easy to choose which
footage we definitely wanted to use and which parts weren’t
needed. As I have never used this programme before, it took a
while for me to understand how to use it properly. When I was
comfortable with using it, editing the piece was very simple as
there were several options which allowed you to add transitions
to create a smoother and more together piece, while cutting
and steadying specific shots you want.
7. Music was needed to go with our piece and so we started
creating it using Garageband. I had never used this before and
so had a little trouble getting used to it. However, after
practising, I found it easy to create music. As we were in charge
of creating it, trying to fit the music with the genre and tone of
our thriller was quite simple to achieve. I learnt, by using this
programme, that time has to be put in to creating a fitting piece
of music, otherwise the music might take away from our thriller.
Also there was a vast amount of sounds we could have used, so
although we found sounds that fitted into our film, it was also
quite time consuming.
