Students Expect High Grades Essays
Like any student, college students always want the easiest way out and still attain a good grade.
That was basically my experience in high school. Teachers just gave credit to assignments that
seemed like the students put a lot of effort into it. I actually gave advice to underclassmen by
encouraging them to do the work regardless if it is right. I would also receive credit for things that
had nothing to do with materials learning in class. If I had a graduation speech I would really thank
tissue boxes for increasing my grade and passing. In high school, I would slack off all the time and
procrastinated everything. Teachers seemed like they did not care and did not encourage me to stop
those bad habits. Unfortunately, today I still...show more content...
Colleges are providing chances that not everyone in America can attain, but students still do not find
it a reason to go through tedious essays, projects and studying. The author even calls the acts of
college students as "not only self–destructive, but socially destructive" (Wiesenfel). Since today's
pupils are Americas future, we cannot just prestige them if they received a C– in math and science.
These performances should not be acceptable because ones personal fail can lead to a bigger group
fail. Overall, Weisenfel provides a good reasoning from these points. Going more in depth in
Wiesenfels article, what really is the motivation for students wanting and begging for higher grades?
When I was in high school one of my priorities was to just get out of there. High school students
just want to go to college, and college students just want to head to grad school and get a steady
career. To keep progressing onto the next academic level one must be able to have a passing grade
which is a C. The minimum grade is all what California State Universities and other four year
universities ask for. Also, one of the most helpful ways to pay for college is through scholarships.
According to some scholarships many ask higher than a specific grade. Additionally several college
students just "think" they deserve a higher grade. In the article "Students Expect High Grades", it
states that "students surveyed said

My Journey As A High School Student Essay
At around this time four years back, I was just beginning my journey as a high school student. I
had decided that I wanted to tryout for my schools ' dance team. I had previously danced with a
studio by the name of Barton and Williams School of Dance, since the age of three, so I was
excited to learn that I could be on a team at my school. I received all of the information that was
necessary regarding the tryout dates, along with the paperwork that would be needed. We had to
learn two combinations, as well as the actual tryout dance, within three days. On the day of the
judging portion of the tryouts, everyone received a number. The judges would throw us into
groups of three or four by randomly choosing our numbers. We needed to perform the two
combinations individually and the actual routine as a group. Once all of the groups were done,
we had to wait for a good two or three hours for the results. Everyone had been so nervous. Finally,
the judges entered the room and posted the list of the numbers of the people who had made the
cut onto the wall. I was so excited to see my number on the list and to be able to say that I had
made it. In the very beginning of the season, my team attended the National Dance Alliance camp,
or NDA camp. This camp consists of nothing but dance for four days and three nights. It is located
in Maryland, at Towson University, so we had to rent a bus in order to get there. About a month
before camp, the team hired a guest choreographer to teach

Case Study 11: Should a Computer Grade Your Essays?
The case study discusses the April 2013 launch of Harvard/MIT's joint venture MOOC (massively
open online course) essay scoring program, utilizing AI (artificial intelligence) technology to grade
educational essays and short answers, with immediate feedback and ability to revise, resubmit, and
improve grades.
In 2012, a group of colleagues, Les Perleman, Mark Shermis, and Ben Hamner, introduced over
16,000, K7–12 standardized school tests to the AES (automated essay scoring software) to compare
results of hand–scored essays; the results appeared to produce a more accurate grade, however, no
official statistical studies were performed to accurately maintain the claim.

Currently, EdX tools are free and tout trainability by educators. As demonstrated in the video IBM
Watson: The Science Behind an Answer (IBM, 2011), the system uses algorithms gathered from the
data stored in the system and "learns" answers by utilizing similarity of questions technique. The
instructors grade 100 essays and/or questions and as they are input, which inevitably become the
tools that becoming the grading metrics.
Massively open online courses (MOOC) platform rests on "self–service" and utilizing EdX to allow
students the opportunity to obtain certificates of completion, versus degrees. The university will pay
EdX a fee based on generated revenue for initial courses and "production help" revenue base for
course development, with a potential for future licensing. The passing rate is anticipated to increase
an estimate 60 to 91 percent, causing scrutiny and angst amongst traditional block and mortar
educators; this translates to a speculated decline in educational quality and as well as the demise of
trained educators.
The first case question asks to define the intelligence level of the automated essay grading. The EdX
system requires educators or graders to first, grade 100 essays then allow the system, using learning
techniques; second, it trains itself to grade future

Should Children Be Rewarded For Good Grades?
I agree with the author Karen Barkslade, and Brenda Nelson on their views of children getting
rewarded for getting good grades. Allowing children to receive awards is allowing them to be
able to say the only way I will do something is if I get something in return. When that should never
be the case. Children should not be rewarded for good grades because they stop striving for
greatness, they will only do the work when they know a prize is involved, and never learn the true
meaning of working for something. Children will only do the minimal if we rewards for a passing
grade. They will see what it takes to get the prize and then once they have established on how hard
they have to work they will never surpass that. Kids will only do the minimal

Persuasive Essay On Letter Grades
Historically, letter grades have served as a tool to rate educational intelligence. By looking at the
progression of a student's grades over time, people are able to determine whether or not the students
are developing skills in certain areas. Using a one letter grade to determine progress has received
many critiques as a common system used in America's education. Critics claim letter grades cause
students motivation and creativity to decrease because grades shift students focus from learning the
material to obtaining a good grade. Letter grades were introduced into American schools in 1911.
The grading system was originally created in Europe in the 17th century as a means to rank students
based on tests. By the 1930s and 40s, most...show more content...
The pressure to uphold a grade motivates students to look for and memorize the information on
upcoming tests. Furthermore, students will be more likely to opt for projects and classes with more
basic content to learn because easier classes increase the student's likelihood of receiving an A. To
students, the easy way out is the right way since the success of gaining an A on transcripts has
become more important than learning.
One example demonstrating that grades lead to limited learning of material, can be illustrated by a
study that was conducted of students, some of whom were graded. One group of students was told
about being graded and the other group was not. The group who was "told they'd be graded on how
well they learned a social studies lesson had more trouble understanding the main point of the text
than did students who were told that no grades would be involved" (Kohn). This experiment shows
how students concerned getting a good grade detracts from the students overall understanding. In my
experience, students have so much homework, activities, and pressure to excel that it becomes
challenging to learn topics outside of those being assigned. For example, in order to complete
history worksheets, students do not always read the passages to find the answers, but rather skim the
passage for keywords

Study Habits Can Improve Your Grades Essay
Why improving your study habits can improve your grades
Having bad study habits can really show up in your grades, but if you change your study habits
your grades will improve. Many important things factor in understanding about studying. The
most important fact about studying: no two people think alike; therefore, no two people study the
same. What works for you may not work for your friend, and vice versa. I know I have no class
that I enjoy so much that I cannot wait to get home so that I can study it, on that note we can only
wish. As people we are all different for some students studying and being motivated to learn comes
naturally but for me not so much. Success in high school and college really depend on good study
habits....show more content...
That could benefit or hurt your study habits and note taking. Also bad study habits could result in not
knowing how to study. Studying is not just reading out loud it's about comprehending what you read.
Ask yourself questions, write about what you read, or tell someone what you read. Doing so can
improve your memory of what you read up to 85% instead of just 15%. You can also survey what
you are about to read. Surveying is essentially understands what you are reading. Basically you can
study something you don't understand. Question what you have just read, ask yourself questions
about what you are reading or studying. Always pay attention to things in bold or italicized print.
Recite what you have just read, this makes it stick better. Try to remember the headings and
important ideas, try to say what you have just read in your own words this way you understand it
better, therefore you remember it without actually trying. When you study, reading out loud does
not help you study, and if you move your lips while reading you are not reading efficiently. Not
knowing when to study affects you just as much as not knowing how to study. You don't
necessarily have to study the day you get your notes but that does not mean to wait till the day of
the test to study either. Reading over your notes daily really helps your memory. A very important
note about studying is to only study when you are well rested, and have already planned for it. This
is where a

Why Grades Are Important Essay
Yes, grades are an effective means of motivating students to do their best work. If there were no
grades why the students would like to work hard? Do not they want to enjoy luxury and comforts in
their youth? Surely, students want to enjoy their youth with luxury and comforts. They can not
judge themselves because they have no scale of judgment. It is the instructor only who judges the
students comparatively and gives grades to them accordingly. In this way, by receiving their grades
students recognize their positions in the class. If their positions came to be low, they then try to
achieve higher positions by working hard because they want to achieve their goal of becoming great
persons. As it is the nature of all the human beings that no...show more content...
The farmer does his best to make his fields fit for better growth of the crops only in the hope of
getting a good variety of crops so that they may help him in earning high money. If he will not be
able to get high money by producing a good variety of crops he will probably increase his
working hours to achieve his purpose because he does his work only for earning money to live in.
Similar is the case with the students. Students work because they want their instructor to give
them high grades. Their future career depends on their grades they have made at this level. If
they got high grade their future will be bright because everyone gives credit to grades. Therefore,
if students will get credit for their work they will work even better for getting more and more
credit. Otherwise, they will shirk work hard. Furthermore, God will also give rewards to those
people who have done good deeds in this world. That is why; all people do their best of doing good
deeds so that they may be able to get reward from God on their sacrifices and hardships. If there
would be no reward from God, no one would want to do good deeds by facing hardships. Every
one would be free to committing sins or other bad deeds which will results in turmoil of the world.
Same is the case with the students. If the instructor gives them grades for their individual work they

CHAPTER 1
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
In essence, grading is an exercise in professional judgment on the part of instructors. It involves the
collection and evaluation of evidence on students' achievement or performance over a specified
period of time, such as nine weeks, an academic semester, or entire school year. Through this process,
various types of descriptive information and measures of students' performance are converted into
grades or marks that summarize students'...show more content...
Conceptual Framework Linear System theory is the foundation of the basic analysis of this system.
Linear system theory assumes a cause–and–effect relationship for the components of a system. The
input and output relationship represents processing the cause–and–effect of the process, which in
turn represents a processing of the input variables to provide an output variable. The paradigm of
the study consists of the context as shown in Figure 1. INPUTPROCESSOUTPUT
The context is composed of the existing system in the manner of computing grades which are either
manually or computerized by using spreadsheets. Moreover, it also includes the sources of data
which are the reading materials like magazines, books, internet and by observing and asking
qualified respondents that could give clarity to the study. The process of developing an onlinegrade
management system consists of creating a system flow chart that will serve as a guide in the
creation of the program/system, the ERD (Entity–Relationship Diagram) that will be essential for the
database or record keeping of the system and encoding, debugging errors and execution of the
program.
Statement of the Problem The general problem of the study is how to develop an online
management system. There are some specific problem in this study that needs to be solved to
accomplish the project. They are the

The Grade I Would Assign Myself
The grade that I would personally assign myself for this class would be a ninety–three percent
because of the effort that I put into the journals and essays. The effort I put into the journals is the
first reason that I deserve a ninety–three percent. I put thought into the journals and came up with
well–thought out responses. The journals that were mostly reflective I put honest and elaborate
examples. Finally, I did research for some of the journals. The journal that I definitely did research
for and put just as much hard work into as the other journals was the journal where we had to
describe causal chains. The final reason I deserve a ninety–three percent is the effort that I put into
my essays. I put thought into the essays by choosing a topic of my interest. After I chose the
topic, I began drafting a first draft. I would completely rewrite the second and third drafts until I
felt that they were the way that I wanted them. If I did not believe that the third draft was polished
and ready to turn in, I would write a fourth or fifth draft. In addition to the grade I should receive, I
also had parts of the class I really enjoyed. My highlights from the class would be the workshops and
writing the exploratory essay. In the workshops, we had to give feedback to others about their
essays. I enjoyed reading other classmates essays and talking about their points of view on certain
topics. I also enjoyed helping them with their papers by giving them advice on how to better

Why I Deserve A Grade
Why do I deserve an A as a grade? I deserve an A as a grade for this class for many reasons. I think
I deserve this grade because for one it's a good grade period and teachers tell me they appreciate
me doing their work they give me. Then I try to get all my assignments in, and most of the time I try
my hardest, that's what makes what my grades are now, and lastly I try to pay attention even when
something isn't interesting because I want to show my younger brother that life is hard but it doesn't
hurt to try in school and to not give up. First I think I deserve this type of grade because it's a good
grade. Everyone knows that. Teachers tell me all the time that they are glad I pay attention. They
also say its good to just do the work and

Global Intelligence Self Assessment Essay
1. After taking the Self–Assessment in our textbook called "Global Intelligence," I would describe
my overall score as being somewhat well rounded when it comes to my Global Intelligence, but
there are areas that I can improve on. My strongest scores fell under the statements for global
mindset and global work skills. My highest score of 4.33 points for the Global work skills
category allowed me to realize that I am already doing my best to learn more about the different
cultures around me. Simple acts like increasing my understanding of people from other cultures or
adjusting my communication style to work effectively with my peers are a few behaviors that will
enhance my global intelligence. An area that I need to improve on is my global knowledge score
after scoring a total of 2.66 points. I must improve in this areas to attain a better understanding of all
cultures and their way of communicating and unique perspectives. Something I can do to improve in
this area is to gather new information about other countries and their cultures by staying informed on
their type of government, political, and economic systems. Not only will this changed behavior be

Something that I can do to improve my global intelligence is to raise my awareness on issues
regarding cultural issues and gaining general knowledge of all cultures. I believe that by taking the
time to learn about other cultures will help make me more valuable as a leader or future manager
because you will have a greater understanding of how people communicate and what they hold as
valuable to them. Another thing that I can do to improve my global intelligence is to network and
meet individuals from different backgrounds to gain a first–hand experience in learning more about
their ideas and opinions on how they view other cultures as well. Having a well–balanced
understanding on how all cultures interact with each other can also be useful when explaining why
certain conflicts occur when they

My Life As A Student
My life as a student has been a fairly good one. I've received good grades throughout all my years
of high school and pride myself as an intelligent individual. But my individual ability to grow and
learn has been always changing and shifting as I have grown. I think that currently, I am at a low
point in my mindset and learning ability, but there is hope on the horizon. This essay will explore
the growth and mindset of Will Roser, and how I can grow as a learner, friend, and individual. As
a student, I have some habits that I rely on, both good and bad. I am usually a good student,
receiving above average grades and I am moderately happy with them. My strength is that I
always get everything done on time. I never have an excuse because my work is always done. I
pride myself on that fact. And although that may seem like a good quality, the fact that I
procrastinate so much does affect how good that work may be. So yes, I always finish my work
which is always a good thing, but it may be at the expense of my sleep schedule. I tend to do most of
my work the day before, despite telling myself over and over again that it needs to be done earlier.
Luckily I have hope for my habits as I am still young. I still have to work on my procrastination but I
think that I can improve as long as I start to see the benefits of starting work early. As William
James says in his essay Habit, "The period between twenty and thirty is the critical one in the
formation of intellectual and

Should Students Grade Their Teachers? Essay
As a student you are evaluated everyday, but have you ever desired to be the one doing the
grading? This is a thought provoking idea. Teachers grade students on almost everything these
days; including participation and behavior. So wouldn't it be nice to return the favor? Although it
may sound like a great idea, it could also be a very bad one. If students were able to grade their
teachers it could provide proper and thorough evaluation; help teachers to improve on what they
may be lacking, and help parents understand what is going on in the classroom; but at the same time
it could prove to be harmful to the student and a good teacher's career if not implemented correctly.
This is why it's important to recognize the possible positive...show more content...
If this works out, then the teacher will receive positive feedback, and that can do wonders to their
self confidence. The teacher will begin to understand what they are doing right, and how to
implement that properly in future school years. Also, the educator will know what they did wrong
so as not to repeat mistakes that previously hindered their grade as a teacher. This evaluation just
might even be a good way for students to anonymously share things that they might feel embarrassed
to tell someone, such as being sexually harassed, and so teacher evaluations are helpful when it
comes to stopping crimes against not only a child's mind, but their bodies as well. Besides all the
good stuff, a lot of people doubt that students grading teachers will have positive results. Many
educators believe that students are far too immature to handle the responsibility of critiquing a
professional. One author (referring to students) states, "They may like or dislike their teachers
depending upon the amount of homework he/she gives, the easiness of his tests, the leniency of the
marking, their appearance, temper and such other things that appeal to the students" (Gupta, 2010,
para. 4). Teachers are afraid of these biased opinions. Some even doubt the mindset of college
students. The main issue that is raised is whether or not students can handle the fact that

"I didn't study for the test. Do you think you could send me a picture of the answers" This one
single line has been heard in schools everywhere. The pressure on students to get good grades leaves
a negative effect on students. The pressure starts while they are young and builds up as students get
older. Students can only take so much pressure until they go through a burn out. This is what often
leads to some students dropping out of high school. The pressure that is put on students to get good
grades often leads to depression, anger, and cheating.

Students of all ages will do almost anything to get the highest grade possible.
The pressure that is put on by parents also leads to a lot of stress. "Pressure for good grades often
lead to high stress and cheating" the title of the Stanford News articles. The article mentions how
students tend to try and find loopholes in the education system. High school is a prime example of
pressure put on students to get good grades. High school students are typically concerned with their
GPA, ACT's, SAT's. Not to mention college admissions and many other variables. "Pressure by
parents and schools to achieve top scores have created stress levels among students– beginning as
early as elementary school– that are so high, that some educators regard it as a health epidemic".
(Palmer 1) This quote is from Denise Clark, the author of the famously known book, 'Doing School'.
In her lecture, she shows how these pressures can overwhelm the students.
Secondly, Pressure that is put on students to get good grades commonly leads to sadness or even
depression. Students often procrastinate and eventually they become overwhelmed. When students
become overwhelmed, they often start to think that things are falling apart or they fall into
depression. Depression can lead to more stress. Students may become depressed or sad when they
get a bad grade. This causes the students to turn to cheating in order to receive a better one. Finally,

Because C# is a player in this new .NET world, you should have a good understanding of what the

The .NET Framework is made up of four parts, as shown in the Common Language Runtime, a set
of class libraries, a set of programming languages, and the ASP.NET environment. The .NET
Framework was designed with three goals in mind. First, it was intended to make Windows
applications much more reliable, while also providing an application with a greater degree of
security. Second, it was intended to simplify the development of Web applications and services that
not only work in the traditional sense, but on mobile devices as well. Lastly, the framework was

.NET Programming Language
The .NET Framework provides a set of tools that help you build code that works with the.NET

Happy: My Sixth Grade Experience
"Happy" It was two years ago. I was finally in sixth grade and I knew this year would go great. I
had finally made it to 6th grade. I was determined to have a great year. The year got off to a decent
enough start. There were three 6th grade teachers and I got the easiest one, Mrs Miller.
Unfortunately my two best friends Will and Brandon were both in the same class but it wasn't
my class. I was determined to find friends in my own class. I made friends with this one kid
named Misael who was new to the school that year. Now Will especially wasn't too happy with
that but eventually Misael started hanging out with this other guy named Seth so that took care
of itself. My friend situation was okay. At least for now... "I'm a hot air balloon that could go to

tons of homework and she certainly never gave us homework over the weekends unlike the other
teachers. We did a lot of fun projects and math wasn't to hard for the most part. The only problem
was that when she was teaching she would remember something that reminded her of something and
then she would go on half an hour long tangents about it especially during social studies. Like one

How To Reduce The Cost Of Education Essay
Students all over America are worried about tuition, student loans and the housing. And the prices
of books make it worse. The books are already expensive enough for the students, that the
bookstores, instead of reducing the prices of their books are increasing the prices of books.
Danielle Kurtzleben in her article "The Cost of an Education" explained that to how the price of
books are increasing,
The cost of tuition has outstripped that of food and shelter, and college students must also contend
with an additional source of skyrocketing prices: the campus bookstore. The jump in textbook prices
over the last decade has almost exactly matched the pace of tuition growth. In other words, students
have yet another kind of sticker shock to face, even after paying their tuition bills.
I as a CRC student face the same situation about the increasing prices of the books. I agree with the
fact that it is not the fault of the bookstores that the books are expensive because they buy them from
the markets too. But what about the used books that the bookstores get from the students and pay
them less than the one third value of the original price. The CRC bookstore should at least reduce
the price of the used books so that students can afford them....show more content...
According to the CRC bookstore manager Marie Hyde, the price they set for used books is
according to the price bookstore buy from the used books companies. And the prices they set for
the books are 25% of the publisher price, which is a really huge percentage. I am not saying that
the bookstore should reduce the price where they barely get profit, instead they should at least drop
down the price to 15%. And that 15% is only for the used books. They can reduce the prices to how
much they want to, but they don't do that, which is not fair to the

My Personal Goals as a Student Essay
My Personal Goals as a Student
An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall
goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to

my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to
feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started. Already having experience in the business

By just going through the motions of coming to work everyday, only getting done what has to be

turn into a mundane professional life. At the same time, if a person does all of these things, but
shows a bit of initiative to gain more knowledge of the job, they may see an opportunity to
slightly move up in the company. The latter is my situation. My experience and knowledge of my
department and its systems have afforded me the opportunity to move up within the department
over the past five years, but I'm beginning to see a limit of how far those skills alone will allow
me to climb. Being an expert in my field of pharmaceutical benefits doesn't translate into managing
personnel just as knowing how to complete a task doesn't mean I'm able to give a clear
presentation on how it should be done. Sure, I've been rewarded for the work I've done and
knowledge I've obtained, but at some point, my employer will eventually see that more is needed to
continue to promote me to higher, more management focused positions. My goal is to complete these
courses and obtain my degree to prove that, if the situation arises, I can be the right person for the
job. A more personal goal of mine is to finish what I've started. After high school,

Grade Your Essay

  • 1. Students Expect High Grades Essays Like any student, college students always want the easiest way out and still attain a good grade. That was basically my experience in high school. Teachers just gave credit to assignments that seemed like the students put a lot of effort into it. I actually gave advice to underclassmen by encouraging them to do the work regardless if it is right. I would also receive credit for things that had nothing to do with materials learning in class. If I had a graduation speech I would really thank tissue boxes for increasing my grade and passing. In high school, I would slack off all the time and procrastinated everything. Teachers seemed like they did not care and did not encourage me to stop those bad habits. Unfortunately, today I still...show more content... Colleges are providing chances that not everyone in America can attain, but students still do not find it a reason to go through tedious essays, projects and studying. The author even calls the acts of college students as "not only self–destructive, but socially destructive" (Wiesenfel). Since today's pupils are Americas future, we cannot just prestige them if they received a C– in math and science. These performances should not be acceptable because ones personal fail can lead to a bigger group fail. Overall, Weisenfel provides a good reasoning from these points. Going more in depth in Wiesenfels article, what really is the motivation for students wanting and begging for higher grades? When I was in high school one of my priorities was to just get out of there. High school students just want to go to college, and college students just want to head to grad school and get a steady career. To keep progressing onto the next academic level one must be able to have a passing grade which is a C. The minimum grade is all what California State Universities and other four year universities ask for. Also, one of the most helpful ways to pay for college is through scholarships. According to some scholarships many ask higher than a specific grade. Additionally several college students just "think" they deserve a higher grade. In the article "Students Expect High Grades", it states that "students surveyed said Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Journey As A High School Student Essay At around this time four years back, I was just beginning my journey as a high school student. I had decided that I wanted to tryout for my schools ' dance team. I had previously danced with a studio by the name of Barton and Williams School of Dance, since the age of three, so I was excited to learn that I could be on a team at my school. I received all of the information that was necessary regarding the tryout dates, along with the paperwork that would be needed. We had to learn two combinations, as well as the actual tryout dance, within three days. On the day of the judging portion of the tryouts, everyone received a number. The judges would throw us into groups of three or four by randomly choosing our numbers. We needed to perform the two combinations individually and the actual routine as a group. Once all of the groups were done, we had to wait for a good two or three hours for the results. Everyone had been so nervous. Finally, the judges entered the room and posted the list of the numbers of the people who had made the cut onto the wall. I was so excited to see my number on the list and to be able to say that I had made it. In the very beginning of the season, my team attended the National Dance Alliance camp, or NDA camp. This camp consists of nothing but dance for four days and three nights. It is located in Maryland, at Towson University, so we had to rent a bus in order to get there. About a month before camp, the team hired a guest choreographer to teach Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Case Study 11: Should a Computer Grade Your Essays? The case study discusses the April 2013 launch of Harvard/MIT's joint venture MOOC (massively open online course) essay scoring program, utilizing AI (artificial intelligence) technology to grade educational essays and short answers, with immediate feedback and ability to revise, resubmit, and improve grades. In 2012, a group of colleagues, Les Perleman, Mark Shermis, and Ben Hamner, introduced over 16,000, K7–12 standardized school tests to the AES (automated essay scoring software) to compare results of hand–scored essays; the results appeared to produce a more accurate grade, however, no official statistical studies were performed to accurately maintain the claim. As demonstrated in the video IBM Watson: The Science Behind an Answer (IBM, 2011), the system uses algorithms gathered from the data stored in the system and "learns" answers by utilizing similarity of questions technique. The instructors grade 100 essays and/or questions and as they are input, which inevitably become the tools that becoming the grading metrics. Massively open online courses (MOOC) platform rests on "self–service" and utilizing EdX to allow students the opportunity to obtain certificates of completion, versus degrees. The university will pay EdX a fee based on generated revenue for initial courses and "production help" revenue base for course development, with a potential for future licensing. The passing rate is anticipated to increase an estimate 60 to 91 percent, causing scrutiny and angst amongst traditional block and mortar educators; this translates to a speculated decline in educational quality and as well as the demise of trained educators. The first case question asks to define the intelligence level of the automated essay grading. The EdX system requires educators or graders to first, grade 100 essays then allow the system, using learning techniques; second, it trains itself to grade future Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Should Children Be Rewarded For Good Grades? I agree with the author Karen Barkslade, and Brenda Nelson on their views of children getting rewarded for getting good grades. Allowing children to receive awards is allowing them to be able to say the only way I will do something is if I get something in return. When that should never be the case. Children should not be rewarded for good grades because they stop striving for greatness, they will only do the work when they know a prize is involved, and never learn the true meaning of working for something. Children will only do the minimal if we rewards for a passing grade. They will see what it takes to get the prize and then once they have established on how hard they have to work they will never surpass that. Kids will only do the minimal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Letter Grades Historically, letter grades have served as a tool to rate educational intelligence. By looking at the progression of a student's grades over time, people are able to determine whether or not the students are developing skills in certain areas. Using a one letter grade to determine progress has received many critiques as a common system used in America's education. Critics claim letter grades cause students motivation and creativity to decrease because grades shift students focus from learning the material to obtaining a good grade. Letter grades were introduced into American schools in 1911. The grading system was originally created in Europe in the 17th century as a means to rank students based on tests. By the 1930s and 40s, most...show more content... The pressure to uphold a grade motivates students to look for and memorize the information on upcoming tests. Furthermore, students will be more likely to opt for projects and classes with more basic content to learn because easier classes increase the student's likelihood of receiving an A. To students, the easy way out is the right way since the success of gaining an A on transcripts has become more important than learning. One example demonstrating that grades lead to limited learning of material, can be illustrated by a study that was conducted of students, some of whom were graded. One group of students was told about being graded and the other group was not. The group who was "told they'd be graded on how well they learned a social studies lesson had more trouble understanding the main point of the text than did students who were told that no grades would be involved" (Kohn). This experiment shows how students concerned getting a good grade detracts from the students overall understanding. In my experience, students have so much homework, activities, and pressure to excel that it becomes challenging to learn topics outside of those being assigned. For example, in order to complete history worksheets, students do not always read the passages to find the answers, but rather skim the passage for keywords Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Study Habits Can Improve Your Grades Essay Why improving your study habits can improve your grades Having bad study habits can really show up in your grades, but if you change your study habits your grades will improve. Many important things factor in understanding about studying. The most important fact about studying: no two people think alike; therefore, no two people study the same. What works for you may not work for your friend, and vice versa. I know I have no class that I enjoy so much that I cannot wait to get home so that I can study it, on that note we can only wish. As people we are all different for some students studying and being motivated to learn comes naturally but for me not so much. Success in high school and college really depend on good study habits....show more content... That could benefit or hurt your study habits and note taking. Also bad study habits could result in not knowing how to study. Studying is not just reading out loud it's about comprehending what you read. Ask yourself questions, write about what you read, or tell someone what you read. Doing so can improve your memory of what you read up to 85% instead of just 15%. You can also survey what you are about to read. Surveying is essentially understands what you are reading. Basically you can study something you don't understand. Question what you have just read, ask yourself questions about what you are reading or studying. Always pay attention to things in bold or italicized print. Recite what you have just read, this makes it stick better. Try to remember the headings and important ideas, try to say what you have just read in your own words this way you understand it better, therefore you remember it without actually trying. When you study, reading out loud does not help you study, and if you move your lips while reading you are not reading efficiently. Not knowing when to study affects you just as much as not knowing how to study. You don't necessarily have to study the day you get your notes but that does not mean to wait till the day of the test to study either. Reading over your notes daily really helps your memory. A very important note about studying is to only study when you are well rested, and have already planned for it. This is where a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Why Grades Are Important Essay Yes, grades are an effective means of motivating students to do their best work. If there were no grades why the students would like to work hard? Do not they want to enjoy luxury and comforts in their youth? Surely, students want to enjoy their youth with luxury and comforts. They can not judge themselves because they have no scale of judgment. It is the instructor only who judges the students comparatively and gives grades to them accordingly. In this way, by receiving their grades students recognize their positions in the class. If their positions came to be low, they then try to achieve higher positions by working hard because they want to achieve their goal of becoming great persons. As it is the nature of all the human beings that no...show more content... The farmer does his best to make his fields fit for better growth of the crops only in the hope of getting a good variety of crops so that they may help him in earning high money. If he will not be able to get high money by producing a good variety of crops he will probably increase his working hours to achieve his purpose because he does his work only for earning money to live in. Similar is the case with the students. Students work because they want their instructor to give them high grades. Their future career depends on their grades they have made at this level. If they got high grade their future will be bright because everyone gives credit to grades. Therefore, if students will get credit for their work they will work even better for getting more and more credit. Otherwise, they will shirk work hard. Furthermore, God will also give rewards to those people who have done good deeds in this world. That is why; all people do their best of doing good deeds so that they may be able to get reward from God on their sacrifices and hardships. If there would be no reward from God, no one would want to do good deeds by facing hardships. Every one would be free to committing sins or other bad deeds which will results in turmoil of the world. Online Grading System The Development of an Online Grading System by Mary Jane Santos Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of BS Information Technology Integrated College of Business and Technology December 2010 CHAPTER 1 The Problem and Its Background Introduction In essence, grading is an exercise in professional judgment on the part of instructors. • 10. The Grade I Would Assign Myself The grade that I would personally assign myself for this class would be a ninety–three percent because of the effort that I put into the journals and essays. The effort I put into the journals is the first reason that I deserve a ninety–three percent. I put thought into the journals and came up with well–thought out responses. The journals that were mostly reflective I put honest and elaborate examples. Finally, I did research for some of the journals. The journal that I definitely did research for and put just as much hard work into as the other journals was the journal where we had to describe causal chains. The final reason I deserve a ninety–three percent is the effort that I put into my essays. I put thought into the essays by choosing a topic of my interest. After I chose the topic, I began drafting a first draft. I would completely rewrite the second and third drafts until I felt that they were the way that I wanted them. If I did not believe that the third draft was polished and ready to turn in, I would write a fourth or fifth draft. In addition to the grade I should receive, I also had parts of the class I really enjoyed. My highlights from the class would be the workshops and writing the exploratory essay. In the workshops, we had to give feedback to others about their essays. I enjoyed reading other classmates essays and talking about their points of view on certain topics. I also enjoyed helping them with their papers by giving them advice on how to better Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I think I deserve this grade because for one it's a good grade period and teachers tell me they appreciate me doing their work they give me. Then I try to get all my assignments in, and most of the time I try my hardest, that's what makes what my grades are now, and lastly I try to pay attention even when something isn't interesting because I want to show my younger brother that life is hard but it doesn't hurt to try in school and to not give up. After taking the Self–Assessment in our textbook called "Global Intelligence," I would describe my overall score as being somewhat well rounded when it comes to my Global Intelligence, but there are areas that I can improve on. My strongest scores fell under the statements for global mindset and global work skills. My highest score of 4.33 points for the Global work skills category allowed me to realize that I am already doing my best to learn more about the different cultures around me. Simple acts like increasing my understanding of people from other cultures or adjusting my communication style to work effectively with my peers are a few behaviors that will enhance my global intelligence. An area that I need to improve on is my global knowledge score after scoring a total of 2.66 points. I must improve in this areas to attain a better understanding of all cultures and their way of communicating and unique perspectives. Another thing that I can do to improve my global intelligence is to network and meet individuals from different backgrounds to gain a first–hand experience in learning more about their ideas and opinions on how they view other cultures as well. • 13. My Life As A Student My life as a student has been a fairly good one. I've received good grades throughout all my years of high school and pride myself as an intelligent individual. But my individual ability to grow and learn has been always changing and shifting as I have grown. I think that currently, I am at a low point in my mindset and learning ability, but there is hope on the horizon. This essay will explore the growth and mindset of Will Roser, and how I can grow as a learner, friend, and individual. As a student, I have some habits that I rely on, both good and bad. I am usually a good student, receiving above average grades and I am moderately happy with them. My strength is that I always get everything done on time. I never have an excuse because my work is always done. I pride myself on that fact. And although that may seem like a good quality, the fact that I procrastinate so much does affect how good that work may be. So yes, I always finish my work which is always a good thing, but it may be at the expense of my sleep schedule. I tend to do most of my work the day before, despite telling myself over and over again that it needs to be done earlier. Luckily I have hope for my habits as I am still young. I still have to work on my procrastination but I think that I can improve as long as I start to see the benefits of starting work early. • 15. Should Students Grade Their Teachers? Essay As a student you are evaluated everyday, but have you ever desired to be the one doing the grading? This is a thought provoking idea. Teachers grade students on almost everything these days; including participation and behavior. So wouldn't it be nice to return the favor? Although it may sound like a great idea, it could also be a very bad one. If students were able to grade their teachers it could provide proper and thorough evaluation; help teachers to improve on what they may be lacking, and help parents understand what is going on in the classroom; but at the same time it could prove to be harmful to the student and a good teacher's career if not implemented correctly. This is why it's important to recognize the possible positive...show more content... If this works out, then the teacher will receive positive feedback, and that can do wonders to their self confidence. The teacher will begin to understand what they are doing right, and how to implement that properly in future school years. Also, the educator will know what they did wrong so as not to repeat mistakes that previously hindered their grade as a teacher. This evaluation just might even be a good way for students to anonymously share things that they might feel embarrassed to tell someone, such as being sexually harassed, and so teacher evaluations are helpful when it comes to stopping crimes against not only a child's mind, but their bodies as well. Besides all the good stuff, a lot of people doubt that students grading teachers will have positive results. Many educators believe that students are far too immature to handle the responsibility of critiquing a professional. One author (referring to students) states, "They may like or dislike their teachers depending upon the amount of homework he/she gives, the easiness of his tests, the leniency of the marking, their appearance, temper and such other things that appeal to the students" (Gupta, 2010, para. 4). Teachers are afraid of these biased opinions. Some even doubt the mindset of college students. The main issue that is raised is whether or not students can handle the fact that Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The pressure on students to get good grades leaves a negative effect on students. The pressure starts while they are young and builds up as students get older. Students can only take so much pressure until they go through a burn out. This is what often leads to some students dropping out of high school. The pressure that is put on students to get good grades often leads to depression, anger, and cheating. The pressure that is put on by parents also leads to a lot of stress. "Pressure for good grades often lead to high stress and cheating" the title of the Stanford News articles. The article mentions how students tend to try and find loopholes in the education system. High school is a prime example of pressure put on students to get good grades. High school students are typically concerned with their GPA, ACT's, SAT's. Not to mention college admissions and many other variables. "Pressure by parents and schools to achieve top scores have created stress levels among students– beginning as early as elementary school– that are so high, that some educators regard it as a health epidemic". (Palmer 1) This quote is from Denise Clark, the author of the famously known book, 'Doing School'. In her lecture, she shows how these pressures can overwhelm the students. Secondly, Pressure that is put on students to get good grades commonly leads to sadness or even depression. Students often procrastinate and eventually they become overwhelmed. When students become overwhelmed, they often start to think that things are falling apart or they fall into depression. Depression can lead to more stress. The .NET Framework was designed with three goals in mind. First, it was intended to make Windows applications much more reliable, while also providing an application with a greater degree of security. Second, it was intended to simplify the development of Web applications and services that not only work in the traditional sense, but on mobile devices as well. With all of my peers having their future lined up for themselves I felt like I was all alone not knowing what my future was going to look like. Once 10th grade ended I decided to get a job. I became a cashier at a fast food restaurant called Gimme A Burger. Although this was a pretty average job, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. When I came home from work I felt like I had actually Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Happy: My Sixth Grade Experience "Happy" It was two years ago. I was finally in sixth grade and I knew this year would go great. I had finally made it to 6th grade. I was determined to have a great year. The year got off to a decent enough start. There were three 6th grade teachers and I got the easiest one, Mrs Miller. Unfortunately my two best friends Will and Brandon were both in the same class but it wasn't my class. I was determined to find friends in my own class. I made friends with this one kid named Misael who was new to the school that year. Now Will especially wasn't too happy with that but eventually Misael started hanging out with this other guy named Seth so that took care of itself. My friend situation was okay. At least for now... "I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space... Because I'm happy..." (Williams) Mrs Miller was a really fun teacher. She didn't give us tons of homework and she certainly never gave us homework over the weekends unlike the other teachers. We did a lot of fun projects and math wasn't to hard for the most part. The only problem was that when she was teaching she would remember something that reminded her of something and then she would go on half an hour long tangents about it especially during social studies. Like one time we started by talking about verbs and ended talking about slaughterhouses! They were usually interesting but when I told my mom she was concerned I wasn't learning enough in class. Infact, my mom dislikes her to this day. My teacher also didn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. How To Reduce The Cost Of Education Essay Students all over America are worried about tuition, student loans and the housing. And the prices of books make it worse. The books are already expensive enough for the students, that the bookstores, instead of reducing the prices of their books are increasing the prices of books. Danielle Kurtzleben in her article "The Cost of an Education" explained that to how the price of books are increasing, The cost of tuition has outstripped that of food and shelter, and college students must also contend with an additional source of skyrocketing prices: the campus bookstore. The jump in textbook prices over the last decade has almost exactly matched the pace of tuition growth. In other words, students have yet another kind of sticker shock to face, even after paying their tuition bills. I as a CRC student face the same situation about the increasing prices of the books. I agree with the fact that it is not the fault of the bookstores that the books are expensive because they buy them from the markets too. But what about the used books that the bookstores get from the students and pay them less than the one third value of the original price. The CRC bookstore should at least reduce the price of the used books so that students can afford them....show more content... According to the CRC bookstore manager Marie Hyde, the price they set for used books is according to the price bookstore buy from the used books companies. And the prices they set for the books are 25% of the publisher price, which is a really huge percentage. I am not saying that the bookstore should reduce the price where they barely get profit, instead they should at least drop down the price to 15%. And that 15% is only for the used books. They can reduce the prices to how much they want to, but they don't do that, which is not fair to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. My Personal Goals as a Student Essay My Personal Goals as a Student An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to achieve while attending the University. Some of these goals are to acquire new skills and enhance my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started. Already having experience in the business world has proven to me that it is essential to have skills to maintain and improve daily functions. Three skills I'd personally like to improve on are my organizational, time management, and presentation...show more content... By just going through the motions of coming to work everyday, only getting done what has to be done, and going home at the end of the day, one might realize that an everyday routine can quickly turn into a mundane professional life. At the same time, if a person does all of these things, but shows a bit of initiative to gain more knowledge of the job, they may see an opportunity to slightly move up in the company. The latter is my situation. My experience and knowledge of my department and its systems have afforded me the opportunity to move up within the department over the past five years, but I'm beginning to see a limit of how far those skills alone will allow me to climb. Being an expert in my field of pharmaceutical benefits doesn't translate into managing personnel just as knowing how to complete a task doesn't mean I'm able to give a clear presentation on how it should be done. Sure, I've been rewarded for the work I've done and knowledge I've obtained, but at some point, my employer will eventually see that more is needed to continue to promote me to higher, more management focused positions. My goal is to complete these courses and obtain my degree to prove that, if the situation arises, I can be the right person for the job. A more personal goal of mine is to finish what I've started.
