One of my life changing moments were when I got lost, let me tell you how it happened. I wake up in my bunk bed when I set up I looked at the
clock. The clock was so bright I couldn't see it when I squinted my eyes I could see that it said 5:35. Me, my brother, and my dad were going to are
lees in commerce. We have had a lease in commerce for about five months now. It took us about two hours to get there from my house. We wanted to
be there before sunrise so the deer couldn't see us come in the leese. Me and my dad got are close together we were going to be staying two days. Me
and my brother fell asleep in the truck the sound of cars on the highway wake me up. My brother was still snoring.
It was around 6:30. The sun was coming up faster than we that it would. As we pulled into a gas station we got a coffee for my dad and I got a hot
chocolate. My brother got a slushy. As the hot chocolate poured out of the machine I could smell the hershey in the drink. As it touched my lips it
was so hot I had to put ice it. When we arrived the sun was coming up faster than we hoped it would. My dad ask me to take the wheel because he
had to get ready. So we switched spots and I drove the toyota tundra throw the woods.

Shawnee Indians Vision Quest
The Shawnee Indians were know for a style of dance called the Stomp Dance. Men, women, and children would participate in this dance. During this
dance, a lead man would dance one round, in a counter–clockwise circle and sing. Then, alternating women and men would line up behind the leader in
a single–file with the children at the end. This dance is performed during the summer several times a year. They are danced on ceremonial grounds
which was usually a square dance area with a fire. The Shawnee Indians do this dance to celebrate their culture.
Activity 2: Vision quest Description: The vision quest in the Shawnee tribe was done by young boys before puberty. The reason for doing the vision
quest was to seek a spirit that would guide young boys through their lives. It was done by periods of deprivation, fasting, and isolation. Often on the
mornings of the vision quest, boys were sent without clothes into snowy woods, dive to the bottom of a freezing pond, and bring up the first thing he

Women were buried by both men and women. The body was kept in the house for half of a day. Then, blood relatives would prepare the body for

Tecumseh Influence On Native Americans
The Shawnee Tribe was around for many years with a huge history in America. However, this past was disturbed by westward expansion of the
European settlers. This led to "Shawnee–British relations deteriorate[ing] throughout the first half of the eighteenth century" (Edmunds 3). At first, the
Shawnee tribe was peaceful as they tried to avoid conflict and forced settlement (500 Nations pt. 1, 9 min). They also tried to keep the continuity of

This was due to the fact that the Europeans never really dealt with cultural diversity; it was something they never saw before. Stated just like before,
Tecumseh and his family were involved in these conflicts as they originally tried to resist the white American settlers, but the outcomes were not as
positive as they hoped. When "they hunted south of the Ohio and considered the region as their own" (Edmunds 10), Tecumseh's father, Puckeshinwa,
started to fight to maintain and preserve their land against the settlers in the north. This ultimately led to him losing his life in a battle that would
ultimately lead to him losing his mother, brother, and sister. It is justifiable why he never liked or had faith in the European white settlers. He would
hear stories from his older brother about his father's courage and fearlessness when he was growing up, and he also saw this bravery from his brother,
as he became the father figure he lost when he was younger. They remained close until Chiksika, Tecumseh's brother, died in 1788 due to the
indignation of the white settlers (Edmunds 21). Tecumseh, along with the rest of the Native Americans, valued harmony, unity, valued property, and
were organic with their hunting and gathering and agrarianism (Edmunds 2). The white settlers possessed other values such as money, aggression,
ambition, and individuality. This means that the white settlers did not think of how they were affecting Indian tribes, which introduced them to
diversity for the first time, and only thought about the land they were taking. Tecumseh thought the same thing of them. They striped and used up and
dried out the Shawnee lands, which was the only thing they wanted and cared about. While Tecumseh valued the culture of the Shawnees possessed,
the white settlers could not care less they were the source for why the Shawnees could not preserve the history of their ancestors

The Prophet And His Older Brother
The Prophet and his older brother, Tecumseh, were both political leaders of the Shawnee Tribe in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Tecumseh, the older, was a war chief whereas his brother Tenskwatawa was a religious figure. The latter of the two was known as The Prophet.
Because of the differences between the way their power was gained and exercised, the two brothers went separate ways about fighting expansion. Both
received different forms of support, as well, which greatly influenced the effectiveness of their techniques. There is a stark contrast between the two,
but their goal was written clearly and boldly throughout history; the two siblings saw that unification was the definite way to protest the encroachment
on Indian land. At this time, borders between the peoples became more and more sacred. Some tribes stayed on the move, much like the nomadic
hunter–gatherers, in order to protect themselves from expansion. Throughout history there have been incidents of lands being taken over by a
foreign nation. The famous Trail of Tears and the British occupation of India and South Africa are good examples of this fact. In all three cases, the
natives were forced to adopt the ways of the newcomers or face a punishment. The Trail of Tears occurred in America during the presidential term of
Andrew Jackson. Jackson ordered the Cherokee to leave their homeland of their own free will, threatening them to be removed by force if they did not

long, so their houses are not made to be permanent. Their homes are made of tree bark, sap, brush, and sometimes hide. Their home is called a
wigwam and it is not permanent since they move a lot and it is made for all seasons except winter. Their home for when winter comes is called a

The two courageous women walked through freezing rivers and climbed up small cliffs for forty days, with hardly nothing to eat since everything was
barren because of the winter, overall the two women walked 1,000 miles. Finally Mary was able to find her husband, but after thirteen years she was

Follow the River had a lot of dialogue leaving the reader with the feeling that they were battling the Virginia wilderness right along with Mary
Ingles. James Alexander Thom used vivid description on everything that he wrote, he painted the picture for the reader with a myriad of words, and
he left no leaf undescribed in the Virginia wilderness. The only thing that seemed confusing about this book is that the reader can never figure out
where Mary Ingles is , it would help a lot if a map was placed somewhere in the book showing the trail of Mary and her companion.
James Alexander Thom did seem a little bias in his book. He would call The Shawnee Indians heathens, he always just looked at the English point of
view and never the Indians point of view, because at this time the reader should be informed that the Indians are being forced to be moved from place
to place by the white man, but I don't believe that the authors intent was to give the Shawnee Indians a bad name he just wanted to get the point across

The Shawnee chief Tecumseh a well–known Indian, became famous for his attempt to merge the Native American tribes against the Americans. In
1809 he began his voyage in order to profess his requests. A few years later Tecumseh arrived in the Osage Nation around the region of Oklahoma and
tried to influence the Osage Nation with his political agenda. Tecumseh had wanted the Osage Nation to join the pan–Indian confederacy. Jointly with

groups: Chillicothe, Kispokotha, Pique, Sawekela, and the Makostrake (Johnson, 1937). These became so intermixed that they are now

the past into his heritage of the Shawnee, his relationship with his brother, Laulewasikaw (later to be named Teakatowah), and his archrival Governor
William Henry Harrison. The most important and intriguing aspect of Tecumseh's life was his involvement in the War of 1812. Tecumseh united tribes

people. His father, Puckeshinwau, was the chief clan and his mother, Methoataske, was among the "wisest of the women in the tribe." The Shawnee

displacement. Moving from the Carolinas and other middle colonies they finally settled in the Ohio Valley and used the bluegrass region of Kentucky
