1. LOTC: The Ancient
Egyptians

2. Rationale
• As a group, we decided quickly and unanimously that we had an
interest in Ancient Egypt and wanted to explore this for Learning
Outside The Classroom. We could think of no be5er place to
immerse ourselves in artefacts, informaLon and inspiraLon then
the BriLsh Museum, just a short walk from UCL. The BriLsh
Museum offers a virtual tour around the museum. We agreed that
this would be an interesLng hook to engage children in the
upcoming module and the future - real life - visit to the museum.
The BriLsh Museum has six rooms dedicated to Ancient Egypt
which allows a range of subjects for visitors; and our school
children, to explore; from what life was like for ancient EgypLans to
beliefs about the aSerlife. These are key topics we would like to
explore with the children.
• You can book either self led visits to the museum, we however felt
that booking a school session visit would be a far more rewarding
experience for the children as workshops will be run by
experienced and expert staff at the museum.

21. Workshops
• The BriLsh Museum runs taught handling sessions for children with
SEN – allowing students to experience ancient Egypt through sight,
smell and touch. We all agreed this would be the perfect session if
we found ourselves working in a special school or in a class with a
high raLon of pupils with SEND due to the mulL-sensory experience
on offer.
• With relaLon to our planned foundaLon subject (Geography, Art
and Design and History) We felt some of the other workshops on
offer to schools would be more beneficial to our students;
parLcularly the creaLve workshops – decoding ancient tomb
painLngs, ExcavaLng an ancient EgypLan tomb, Examining artefacts
or coding the Rose5a Stone. We felt all workshops would be both
beneficial and thought-provoking for all pupils and wanted to allow
the students a democraLc say in which workshop we a5ended. This
would allow us to vote as a class, demonstraLng fairness and BriLsh
values.
