A2 Media Studies Film Pitch

2. What is the Genre?
• My chosen genre is a mixture of social realist,
drama and romance.

3. Target Audience
• Teenagers/Young Adults – main characters are
of the age group, making the film more relatable.
• Predominately female- like most stereotypical
romance films are.
• Female voiceover also attracts female target
audience.
• Strong emotions conveyed through my film, so
the audience can relate to the main characters,
therefore engaging more with the film.

4. Budget
• I am basing my trailer on the film ‘Like Crazy.’
Although my film has a very different story line,
I like how ‘Like Crazy’ was shot; the locations,
editing, camera angles etc.
• Therefore I am giving my film the same low
budget of $250,000.

5. Storyline/Narrative
• Anna moves to a new town and a new school for a fresh start with her mum after her
dad dies.
• Anna is deeply upset due to the loss of her dad so she self-harms.
• One day when getting lunch in the canteen, she is stood next to a guy called Alex in
the lunch queue. He catches sight of the cuts on her wrist. She notices him looking
and they make brief eye contact. Alex then goes to sit with all his friends, while Anna
sits alone.
• Next lunchtime in an attempt to be nice and slightly worried about the cuts on her
wrist, Alex sits next to Anna at lunch and they get chatting.
• They start hanging out a lot and begin to fall for one another. One day whilst chilling
at Anna’s house, Anna goes to the toilet. Meanwhile Alex is looking at her books to
pass the time when he accidently knocks her diary off the shelf, which falls open on
the floor. As he goes to quickly pick the diary up and put it back he catches sight of a
page talking about Anna’s dad’s death. He can’t help but read it.
• Anna comes back from the toilet and catches sight of Alex reading her diary. She gets
very angry and they both have an argument.
• Eventually they make up and Alex tells her that he is moving back to his home
country.
• Anna is deeply upset and they both confess how they love each other and agree to
make the most of the time they have left together.
• Alex goes and Anna mourns, deeply upset.
• The film/trailer ends with Anna staring out of her bedroom window, someone rings
the doorbell, Anna goes to answer the door, upon opening it Alex is stood they and
simply says, ‘Hey.’

6. Unique Selling Point
Addresses the issue and raises awareness of self
harm among teenagers.
Film told from back to front through a voiceover
by Anna. Not many films have this feature.

• Main female protagonist: Anna
• Age 18
• Quiet, thoughtful, outsider. New to the school so
not many friends.

• Main male protagonist: Alex
• Age 18
• Kind, understanding, popular, outgoing
• Ethnicity: Asian (eventually moves back to the
Philippines.)

• Kind, briefly seen in the film trying to cheer
Anna up.

• I will film a lot in London, including obvious
landmarks in my shots to set the scene.
• I want to film some clips of a night time date in
maybe Leicester Square, twinkling lights,
romantic.
