1. 21 Jump Street (2012)
For the film ’21 Jump Street’ the use of writing
straight away when the first sequence appears,
genre is slyly introduced as being fitted within the
action field. This is apparent due to the style of
font being used and the colour. The use of the
bold, squared writing sets the tone and makes the
audience aware that the following film is more
than likely going to be targeted within the action
genre. Due to the colour silver/blue being used, it
is also targeted as being placid and cold, creating a
sense of action and adventure.
With the use of the bright colours throughout the title sequence it
sets a vibrant tone and captures the audience’s attention. With
the backing music being tension building and loud, it helps to tie in
with the genre being action. The backing track music is more of an
upbeat and recent song which makes it look as though it will be
targeted at more of a teenage audience (15+). The use of
iconography however may say otherwise, with the use of drugs
being portrayed it could be suited to an older audience due to the
graphic images, ages such as 18+. The images throughout the title
sequence change quickly only giving the audience a glimpse of
what the film will entail of, this is a way of capturing the
audience’s attention and keeping them fixed on what is being
shown.
The genre is established particularly through one of the images used, this is of an explosion occurring
behind one of the titles, and this sets the scene and makes it more suited around an action genre
film. However, there is a hybrid introduced through the use of colour, the colours red and pink could
slightly introduces a romantic genre which could be involved throughout the film.

2. The mood that the title sequence creates is a vibrant, tense and fun mood due to the music, graphics
and colours used. It is upbeat and will cause audiences to be intrigued and want to watch the whole
film. The camera shots throughout are fast and change from image to image in a matter of seconds,
this is done in order to keep up with the tempo of the music and continue to tie in with the action
genre. Throughout the title sequence the characters are introduced through snippets of images of
themselves that will be involved in the film, with their names flashing across the screen. The main
characters (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) are not revealed for a long duration of time, they are
only shown briefly, this is in order to not reveal what their characters played are entirely like.
