WAXES
Microcrystalline waxes are products derived from petroleum formed by complex hydrocarbon blends,
including standard paraffin as well as monocyclic and polycyclic compounds of branched molecular
structure. These waxes have a high average molecular weight (580-700) with chain length between 40
and 50 carbon atoms resulting in a high viscosity.
Additionally, this kind of waxes formed by small flexible crystal, generating more oil affinity which
consists of capturing or retaining the oil in the microcrystalline structure and not letting it migrate to the
surface. Because of it’s distinctive property, microcrystalline waxes are very malleable and less brittle
than paraffin.
Microcrystalline waxes are compatible with most of the animal, vegetable and mineral waxes as well as
a variety of natural and synthetic resin. Their properties make them essential in formulation for
cosmetics, gum base, coatings, candles, anti-corrosives, adhesives, textiles and more.
