2. Psalm 52:1-5 To the Chief Musician. A
Contemplation of David when Doeg the
Edomite went and told Saul, and said to him,
'David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.'
Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The
goodness of God endures continually. (2)
Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp
razor, working deceitfully. (3) YOU LOVE EVIL
MORE THAN GOOD, LYING RATHER THAN
SPEAKING RIGHTEOUSNESS. SELAH (4) YOU
LOVE ALL DEVOURING WORDS, You
deceitful tongue. (5) God shall likewise
destroy you forever; He shall take you away,
and pluck you out of your dwelling place, And
uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

4. LOVE
A.THE TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS INVOLVE
LOVE - Matthew 22:34-40 But when the Pharisees
heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they
gathered together. (35) Then one of them, a lawyer,
asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, (36)
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the
law? (37) Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the
LORD your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your mind.' (38) This is the first
and great commandment. (39) And the second is
like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
(40) On these two commandments hang all the Law
and the Prophets.
5. LOVE
B. LOVE IS THE HIGHEST ATTRIBUTE OF
MANKIND. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide
faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest
of these is love.
C. MISPLACED LOVE CAN BE VERY
DANGEROUS
D. SOME OF THE GREATEST TRAGEDIES IN
LIFE ARE THE RESULT OF MISPLACED
LOVE.
E. THIS MORNING WE ARE GOING TO LOOK AT
SOME DANGEROUS LOVE AFFAIRS IN THE
NEW TESTAMENT.
6. THE LOVE OF SELF
2 Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the
last days perilous times will come: (2) For
men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of
money, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
(3) unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without
self-control, brutal, despisers of good, (4)
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of
pleasure rather than lovers of God, (5) having
a form of godliness but denying its power.
And from such people turn away!
7. THE LOVE OF MONEY
1 Timothy 6:6-10 Now godliness with
contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought
nothing into this world, and it is certain we can
carry nothing out. (8) And having food and
clothing, with these we shall be content. (9) But
those who desire to be rich fall into temptation
and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful
lusts which drown men in destruction and
perdition. (10) For the love of money is a root of
all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed
from the faith in their greediness, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows.
8. THE LOVE OF THE PRAISE OF MEN
Matthew 6:5 And when you pray, you
shall not be like the hypocrites. For they
love to pray standing in the synagogues
and on the corners of the streets, that
they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I
say to you, they have their reward.
9. THE LOVE OF DARKNESS
RATHER THAN LIGHT
John 3:16-21 (16) For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For
God did not send His Son into the world to condemn
the world, but that the world through Him might be
saved. (18) He who believes in Him is not condemned;
but he who does not believe is condemned already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the
condemnation, that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their
deeds were evil. (20) For everyone practicing evil hates
the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds
should be exposed. (21) But he who does the truth
comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen,
that they have been done in God.
10. THE LOVE FOR THE WORLD
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or
the things in the world. If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is not in
him. (16) For all that is in the world--the
lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and
the pride of life--is not of the Father but is
of the world. (17) And the world is
passing away, and the lust of it; but he
who does the will of God abides forever.
11. THE LOVE OF PLEASURE
2 Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the
last days perilous times will come: (2) For
men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of
money, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
(3) unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without
self-control, brutal, despisers of good, (4)
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of
pleasure rather than lovers of God, (5) having
a form of godliness but denying its power.
And from such people turn away!
12. THE LOVE OF FAMILY MORE
THAN JESUS
Matthew 10:37 He who loves father or
mother more than Me is not worthy of
Me. And he who loves son or daughter
more than Me is not worthy of Me.
13. LOVE IN WORD ONLY
1 John 3:17-18 But whoever has this
world's goods, and sees his brother in
need, and shuts up his heart from him,
how does the love of God abide in him?
(18) My little children, let us not love in
word or in tongue, but in deed and in
truth.
14. THE LOVE OF PREEMINENCE
3 John 9 I wrote to the church, but
Diotrephes, who loves to have the
preeminence among them, does not
receive us.
15. THE LOVE OF THIS LIFE
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb and by the word
of their testimony, and they did not love
their lives to the death.
16. THE LOVE OF LYING
Revelation 22:14-15 Blessed are those
who do His commandments, that they
may have the right to the tree of life, and
may enter through the gates into the city.
(15) But outside are dogs and sorcerers
and sexually immoral and murderers and
idolaters, and whoever loves and
practices a lie.
17. THE LOVE THAT HAS GROWN COLD
Matthew 24:12 And because lawlessness
will abound, the love of many will grow
cold.
18. DANGEROUS LOVE AFFAIRS?
• ARE YOU INVOLVED IN A
DANGEROUS LOVE AFFAIR?
• HAS YOUR LOVE FOR GOD GROWN
COLD?
