Comparison And Contrast Essay Topics
Chapter 16, Comparison and Contrast, explains the purpose and functions of comparison and/or
contrast essays as well as how to use them in students' essays. Comparison and contrast means
finding similarities, differences, or both. Comparison and contrast essays commonly have three
purposes. First, they are important in expressing ideas. For example, I want to talk about my ideas
about hip–hop and rap music so I compare and contrast them. The second purpose is to inform
people. I may want to tell the audience that there are many similarities in two different religions.
Third, I can persuade people through comparing and contrasting two things. For instance, I will
argue that reading e–books is better than printed books by comparing and contrasting

Good Teacher Vs. Bad Teacher
Angel Green English 102 Dr. Bloom 7 October 2015 Good Teacher vs. Bad Teacher Students have
all experienced good and bad teachers. Some students can sit in a class and want to learn and
engage with a good teacher or the class could be extremely boring because of a bad teacher. The
question you have to ask is what qualities does a teacher have to have to make them a good or bad
teacher? What components does a good teacher have, that a bad teacher doesn't? Being a good
teacher means having a great personality, being fun, and keeping a nice attitude. They also are
able to keep their students engaged in learning the materials that they are teaching. A good teacher
doesn't mind having a bad student in their class because they enjoy what they do so it's not hard
to make that one or two bad student(s) become engage in class. A bad teacher is the complete
opposite of a good teacher. They have a terrible personality, their class is usually boring, and they
have a nasty attitude. If a bad teacher has bad student in their class then they don't have too much to
stay to them and they usually start to corrupt the whole class. I think there are a few things that
separate a good teacher from a bad teacher: how they teach the class, what they are teaching the
class, and how often they are available for their students. How the teacher teaches the class is really
important. If the teacher is not engaging with the students then the students won't be as eager to
learn. The tone of the

Compare-Contrast Topic Selection
Compare–Contrast Topic Selection As I searched for and imagined the many different topics for this
compare–contrast essay, I felt at a loss for the perfect subject. It had to be something which would
keep my interest for the next five weeks of the course. Also, it had to be something which, in the
end, I could walk away from feeling as if I had learned something and been educated. I wrote
down all of my ideas in a list, searched the internet and the college library, and finally realized that
the topic had been directly in front of my face the entire time: compare–contrast online college and
traditional college. Seeing that there was enough research and peer–reviewed articled to form my
essay, I excitedly decided that it would be my subject. Not only that, I have attended both kinds of
college systems in the pursuit of my undergraduate degree and know from personal experience the
pros and cons of both. Technology is the not the only difference between the two.
The Prewriting...show more content...
For me, it has been the best writing technique and never fails to get my creative juices flowing.
Despite trying the many other pre–writing approaches, such as clustering and outlining, freewriting
is ultimately the tactic I prefer over all the others. In the first draft of this essay, I made sure to shut
out all distractions, opened a new and blank word document, thought of my audience and started
writing everything that came to my mind. If it had anything involved with the face–to–face and
face–to–computer programs, I would write it down. Often, I approach academic freewriting as I
approach personal writing, especially when it so early in the writing process for an essay which will
be a five–week

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to
your former self" Ernest Hemingway. The Old Man and the Sea By: Ernest Hemingway and
Between the World and Me By: Ta–Nehisi Coates are very similar in many different ways. The
comparison of each book is shown well in the setting, theme, and in Symbolism. In the setting, both
books provide that the main character is a "little fish in a big sea". What that means is that the
setting is very large. The character is only a small part of the area but is trying to make a
difference. In Hemingway's Novella, he says that the setting takes place in Havana, Cuba. This
place is where the main character, Santiago lives. What could be said as the real...show more

It has more force in the evening too. But in the morning it is painful." The weakness of Santiago
really defines how he takes on fighting the marlin. One other thing that shows his suffering is the
loss of the marlin to the sharks when Santiago was on his way back to Havana after catching the
marlin. Coates way of showing suffering is in how everybody around him would have the
ruthless, hatred of African Americans. How all these people would do anything to annihilate
them at all costs. Coates really shows how he feels all of the whites treat him. One thing that
coates shows is how Prince Jones was shot and killed to death. This really affected Coates and
really changed his as a person and as a man after Jones' death. Both the books show how suffering
can really change a character for the better or for the worse. Symbolism is shown for each novel in
The Marlin in The Old Man and the Sea and Race in Between the World and Me. The symbols are
something that someone reallys want to get. They have working for something of this value for
their whole lives. The Marlin is this magnificent creature that every fisherman only dreams of

Compare And Contrast Worldviews
Comparing Worldviews
Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world
through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text,
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for
comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism.
Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our
expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual
world, a material world, or both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the
world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their
beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities
can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found.
When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different
approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it
will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the
creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a
spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are
on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Compare And Contrast Two Friends
We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also
friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For
example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They
both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more
different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and

Comparison And Contrast Anxiety And Depression
Despite modern medical technology, diseases and disorders still manage to threaten mankind. While
cancer, epilepsy, and autism should be thoroughly researched, the illnesses that are often overlooked
are those of the mind. Thoughts and emotions are often dismissed as unimportant to our everyday
lives as they are merely internal disorders hidden from the external world. However, those people
suffering with these diseases and disorders don't know they have it or don't know how to handle it;
they aren't aware these disorders can be treated just as other disorders with the right treatment such as
medication, therapy, or just talking with friends and family. While these treatments provide
relaxation, relief of stress, feeling of control, and the sense of constant worry is minimized. For

As anxiety and depression are progressing in today's society, it's becoming more crucial for the
general population to understand how anxiety, depression, or the combination of the two affects the
health of those afflicted with these disorders.
Anxiety alone is not one type of disease or disorder; it contains a variety of different types of
diseases and disorders. Some examples of those disorders would be generalized anxiety disorder
(GAD), social anxiety, and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). Focusing more specifically on
generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), it is defined as being in a perpetual state of worry. An article
by "Harvard Women's Health" goes on to describe that "Exaggerated worry about health, safety,
money, and other aspects of daily life that lasts six months or more" is a part of having GAD
(Harvard Women's Health 8). Furthermore, GAD can be "accompanied by muscle pain, fatigue,
headaches, nausea, breathlessness, and insomnia" (Harvard Women's Health 8). All of these are

A Separate Peace Gene And Finny Comparison
"A Separate Peace," by John Knowles focuses Gene and Finny's friendship throughout the story. Any
friendship is difficult to maintain and goes through many different phases. Separate feelings at the
title of the story suggest their friendship has ups and downs. It goes into the idea of how people are
not the same. Neither character has an understanding of who they are and how their actions and
thoughts can affect people around them. This lack of understanding of oneself eventually causes the
destruction of their relationship. Gene is a smart student at Devon school. As a result, he spends most
of his time in his room studying. He wants to be the smartest kid in the school. This shows that he
is competitive in his own way. His roommate is very different. Finny has a totally different

Men vs Women (Compare and Contrast) Essays
As the age old saying goes, "Men Are from Mars, Women are from Venus". The conflicting views of
men and women have been questioned for centuries, noting how men and women differ in emotion,
affection, and communication.
Women tend to be more emotional and rational then men, whereas men are far less emotional and
react on impulse. The different understanding of the ways that each sex communicates is still to be
studied. Women tend to react more emotionally than men, resulting in submerging themselves, mind
body and soul into making decisions. Meanwhile men, impulsively react to situations for the sake of
having a reason to do so. Men see women as less competent to making decisions that involve a lot of
thought, and this is due to women's...show more content...
When the opposite sex does not understand the other on a certain issue, problems and disagreements
arise. When one person has disentanglement in views, everyone involved is affected because people
tend to feel misconstrued in what they believe is right. This is a significant problem because, if men
and women cannot understand each other, the essence of communication is lost on many levels, in
terms of the work place, love, life, and as well as affairs. Miscommunication in relationships is often
a result of breakups and unhealthy relationships. Women are often much more affected by the ways
that men communicate and resolve issues. Fighting in relationships is a representation of not fully
understanding your mate. People in relationships argue all the time and those arguments are usually
based on a misunderstanding. Women often say that they do not understand men, and men don't
understand women. They try to understand deeper, rather then remaining at the surface of the
problem. The emotional differences of men and women vary in temperaments of emotion which
indicates a disconnection in communication, moral motivation, stereotypes, and chemical reactions
in the brain. Men's and women's emotional outlooks are viewed by stereotypes. Men are usually
the more aggressive sex, and women are usually the more passive sex. Men are seen as the more
sexual gender, and that they solely want sex. Our

The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay
The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader
throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The
quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying
Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the
reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No–
Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake
of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded
elations of men.' This introduction creates a...show more content...
Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader
to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story.
Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery
surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that
Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation
promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into
his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing
Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's
dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his
dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot
possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations.
This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her
imperfection. Daisy's past, in the hospital giving birth and before her wedding day show her real
emotion, however the reader is pulled back into her facade after only a few small yet

F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men are set in two
close time periods, but give a different feel to the setting in each book. In both books, women
have a status lower than men. Daisy, Jordan, Myrtle and Curley's wife are seen as inferior, most
likely due to society's view of women during the time periods. In The Great Gatsby and in Of
Mice and Men, the American Dream is often put aside, seen through the actions of women
characters. The idea of the American Dream has been around since America was founded, but
until 1933, it was not put into words. In the article American Faces 1933's Realities, by James
Truslow Adams, he defines the American Dream as " ...a vision of a better, deeper, richer life for
every individual, regardless of the position in society which he or she may occupy by the
accident of birth" (1). The American Dream does not have to be described as having copious
amounts of wealth. To some, it is only a vision of a better life for themselves and their families. In
the 1920s and 1930s, women may have been able to vote, get a job, and be more independent, but
that doesn't mean they wanted to. They earned lower pay and worked in harsh conditions, in the
1930s. They were also criticized for taking jobs away from the men. Many of the thoughts about
how women should live still carried over from past years. In theory, they may have had more rights,
but did not exercise them all (Working Women in the 1930s). An indication of

As Winston Churchill once said, "Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the
same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things". This
quote could be taken into context numerous ways, one of them being social criticism. In the two
books The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, social criticism is clearly an element that both authors reflected on while writing these
pieces of literature. Although both novels may be seen as completely different works, Twain and
Fitzgerald use similar tools to effectively fulfill the purpose of criticizing American society. Through

The Valley is the only way to get from one Egg to another by road, or to go through to get to New
York City. Fitzgerald uses the Valley to comment on the different social classes of the 1920s; it
illustrates that the American dream is impossible to achieve. Fitzgerald describes the valley as a
place where there are "ash–grey men" who can barely walk and breathe through the powdery grimy
air. The irony of this industrialized area is that the ash–grey men are working their fullest potential to
be able to keep up with the demands of the new urban areas like the East and West Egg. Fitzgerald
also may be suggesting that the style citizens use to describe America is the wrong way; maybe
America is not full of possibility after all. Fitzgerald suggests that life is only good for those who
have money ; if one does not have money then one is an ash–grey man. He proposes those who say
America is the land of the free but who turn people in social classes lower than theirs into slaves for
their own selfish reasoning are one of the biggest kind of hypocrites. From these examples, one can
see that both Twain and Fitzgerald effectively use symbolism to demonstrate their critiques of
hypocrisy of American

This essay looks at The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Atonement written by Ian

Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns
that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough,
you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The

The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it
and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see
what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will
be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics
were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song,
Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The
singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end,
you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song,
the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move
along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The
singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song.
These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and
being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers
also used symbols and juxtaposition to

Good Comparison Essay Topics

  • 1. Comparison And Contrast Essay Topics Chapter 16, Comparison and Contrast, explains the purpose and functions of comparison and/or contrast essays as well as how to use them in students' essays. Comparison and contrast means finding similarities, differences, or both. Comparison and contrast essays commonly have three purposes. First, they are important in expressing ideas. For example, I want to talk about my ideas about hip–hop and rap music so I compare and contrast them. The second purpose is to inform people. I may want to tell the audience that there are many similarities in two different religions. Third, I can persuade people through comparing and contrasting two things. For instance, I will argue that reading e–books is better than printed books by comparing and contrasting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Good Teacher Vs. Bad Teacher Angel Green English 102 Dr. Bloom 7 October 2015 Good Teacher vs. Bad Teacher Students have all experienced good and bad teachers. Some students can sit in a class and want to learn and engage with a good teacher or the class could be extremely boring because of a bad teacher. The question you have to ask is what qualities does a teacher have to have to make them a good or bad teacher? What components does a good teacher have, that a bad teacher doesn't? Being a good teacher means having a great personality, being fun, and keeping a nice attitude. They also are able to keep their students engaged in learning the materials that they are teaching. A good teacher doesn't mind having a bad student in their class because they enjoy what they do so it's not hard to make that one or two bad student(s) become engage in class. A bad teacher is the complete opposite of a good teacher. They have a terrible personality, their class is usually boring, and they have a nasty attitude. If a bad teacher has bad student in their class then they don't have too much to stay to them and they usually start to corrupt the whole class. I think there are a few things that separate a good teacher from a bad teacher: how they teach the class, what they are teaching the class, and how often they are available for their students. How the teacher teaches the class is really important. If the teacher is not engaging with the students then the students won't be as eager to learn. • 3. Compare-Contrast Topic Selection Compare–Contrast Topic Selection As I searched for and imagined the many different topics for this compare–contrast essay, I felt at a loss for the perfect subject. It had to be something which would keep my interest for the next five weeks of the course. Also, it had to be something which, in the end, I could walk away from feeling as if I had learned something and been educated. I wrote down all of my ideas in a list, searched the internet and the college library, and finally realized that the topic had been directly in front of my face the entire time: compare–contrast online college and traditional college. Seeing that there was enough research and peer–reviewed articled to form my essay, I excitedly decided that it would be my subject. Not only that, I have attended both kinds of college systems in the pursuit of my undergraduate degree and know from personal experience the pros and cons of both. Technology is the not the only difference between the two. The Prewriting...show more content... For me, it has been the best writing technique and never fails to get my creative juices flowing. Despite trying the many other pre–writing approaches, such as clustering and outlining, freewriting is ultimately the tactic I prefer over all the others. In the first draft of this essay, I made sure to shut out all distractions, opened a new and blank word document, thought of my audience and started writing everything that came to my mind. If it had anything involved with the face–to–face and face–to–computer programs, I would write it down. Often, I approach academic freewriting as I approach personal writing, especially when it so early in the writing process for an essay which will be a five–week Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self" Ernest Hemingway. The Old Man and the Sea By: Ernest Hemingway and Between the World and Me By: Ta–Nehisi Coates are very similar in many different ways. The comparison of each book is shown well in the setting, theme, and in Symbolism. In the setting, both books provide that the main character is a "little fish in a big sea". What that means is that the setting is very large. The character is only a small part of the area but is trying to make a difference. In Hemingway's Novella, he says that the setting takes place in Havana, Cuba. This place is where the main character, Santiago lives. What could be said as the real...show more content... It has more force in the evening too. But in the morning it is painful." The weakness of Santiago really defines how he takes on fighting the marlin. One other thing that shows his suffering is the loss of the marlin to the sharks when Santiago was on his way back to Havana after catching the marlin. Coates way of showing suffering is in how everybody around him would have the ruthless, hatred of African Americans. How all these people would do anything to annihilate them at all costs. Coates really shows how he feels all of the whites treat him. One thing that coates shows is how Prince Jones was shot and killed to death. This really affected Coates and really changed his as a person and as a man after Jones' death. Both the books show how suffering can really change a character for the better or for the worse. Symbolism is shown for each novel in The Marlin in The Old Man and the Sea and Race in Between the World and Me. The symbols are something that someone reallys want to get. They have working for something of this value for their whole lives. The Marlin is this magnificent creature that every fisherman only dreams of catching. Once Santiago finally catches this fish, he almost thinks of the fish as a brother. He was with the fish 2 straight days, in that time, all he was doing is trying to reel in this beast of a fish. He felt like this fish was one of the closest things that he has ever had to him before. In Between the World and Me, a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Worldviews Comparing Worldviews Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found. When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and two inches with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. She has big eyes and also freckles on her face. Nicole tends to dress very casually. Amy is really sociable and blunt at the same time. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across from us were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while Nicole is more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. • 7. Comparison And Contrast Anxiety And Depression Despite modern medical technology, diseases and disorders still manage to threaten mankind. While cancer, epilepsy, and autism should be thoroughly researched, the illnesses that are often overlooked are those of the mind. Thoughts and emotions are often dismissed as unimportant to our everyday lives as they are merely internal disorders hidden from the external world. However, those people suffering with these diseases and disorders don't know they have it or don't know how to handle it; they aren't aware these disorders can be treated just as other disorders with the right treatment such as medication, therapy, or just talking with friends and family. While these treatments provide relaxation, relief of stress, feeling of control, and the sense of constant worry is minimized. For people with...show more content... As anxiety and depression are progressing in today's society, it's becoming more crucial for the general population to understand how anxiety, depression, or the combination of the two affects the health of those afflicted with these disorders. Anxiety alone is not one type of disease or disorder; it contains a variety of different types of diseases and disorders. Some examples of those disorders would be generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). Focusing more specifically on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), it is defined as being in a perpetual state of worry. An article by "Harvard Women's Health" goes on to describe that "Exaggerated worry about health, safety, money, and other aspects of daily life that lasts six months or more" is a part of having GAD (Harvard Women's Health 8). Furthermore, GAD can be "accompanied by muscle pain, fatigue, headaches, nausea, breathlessness, and insomnia" (Harvard Women's Health 8). • 10. A Separate Peace Gene And Finny Comparison "A Separate Peace," by John Knowles focuses Gene and Finny's friendship throughout the story. Any friendship is difficult to maintain and goes through many different phases. Separate feelings at the title of the story suggest their friendship has ups and downs. It goes into the idea of how people are not the same. Neither character has an understanding of who they are and how their actions and thoughts can affect people around them. This lack of understanding of oneself eventually causes the destruction of their relationship. Gene is a smart student at Devon school. As a result, he spends most of his time in his room studying. He wants to be the smartest kid in the school. This shows that he is competitive in his own way. His roommate is very different. Finny has a totally different personality. • 12. Men vs Women (Compare and Contrast) Essays As the age old saying goes, "Men Are from Mars, Women are from Venus". The conflicting views of men and women have been questioned for centuries, noting how men and women differ in emotion, affection, and communication. Women tend to be more emotional and rational then men, whereas men are far less emotional and react on impulse. The different understanding of the ways that each sex communicates is still to be studied. Women tend to react more emotionally than men, resulting in submerging themselves, mind body and soul into making decisions. Meanwhile men, impulsively react to situations for the sake of having a reason to do so. Men see women as less competent to making decisions that involve a lot of thought, and this is due to women's...show more content... When the opposite sex does not understand the other on a certain issue, problems and disagreements arise. When one person has disentanglement in views, everyone involved is affected because people tend to feel misconstrued in what they believe is right. This is a significant problem because, if men and women cannot understand each other, the essence of communication is lost on many levels, in terms of the work place, love, life, and as well as affairs. Miscommunication in relationships is often a result of breakups and unhealthy relationships. Women are often much more affected by the ways that men communicate and resolve issues. Fighting in relationships is a representation of not fully understanding your mate. People in relationships argue all the time and those arguments are usually based on a misunderstanding. Women often say that they do not understand men, and men don't understand women. They try to understand deeper, rather then remaining at the surface of the problem. The emotional differences of men and women vary in temperaments of emotion which indicates a disconnection in communication, moral motivation, stereotypes, and chemical reactions in the brain. Men's and women's emotional outlooks are viewed by stereotypes. Men are usually the more aggressive sex, and women are usually the more passive sex. Men are seen as the more sexual gender, and that they solely want sex. Our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No– Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded elations of men.' This introduction creates a...show more content... Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story. Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations. This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her imperfection. Daisy's past, in the hospital giving birth and before her wedding day show her real emotion, however the reader is pulled back into her facade after only a few small yet Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men are set in two close time periods, but give a different feel to the setting in each book. In both books, women have a status lower than men. Daisy, Jordan, Myrtle and Curley's wife are seen as inferior, most likely due to society's view of women during the time periods. In The Great Gatsby and in Of Mice and Men, the American Dream is often put aside, seen through the actions of women characters. The idea of the American Dream has been around since America was founded, but until 1933, it was not put into words. In the article American Faces 1933's Realities, by James Truslow Adams, he defines the American Dream as " ...a vision of a better, deeper, richer life for every individual, regardless of the position in society which he or she may occupy by the accident of birth" (1). The American Dream does not have to be described as having copious amounts of wealth. To some, it is only a vision of a better life for themselves and their families. In the 1920s and 1930s, women may have been able to vote, get a job, and be more independent, but that doesn't mean they wanted to. They earned lower pay and worked in harsh conditions, in the 1930s. They were also criticized for taking jobs away from the men. Many of the thoughts about how women should live still carried over from past years. In theory, they may have had more rights, but did not exercise them all (Working Women in the 1930s). An indication of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I was taught love was "good" and hate was "bad". Someone even tried to convince me that hate doesn't exist. But just like "good" and "bad", one cannot exist without the other. I have asked myself so many times how two words, or better yet feelings, that are supposed to be antonyms, opposites, are so similar at the same time. In the two books The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, social criticism is clearly an element that both authors reflected on while writing these pieces of literature. Although both novels may be seen as completely different works, Twain and Fitzgerald use similar tools to effectively fulfill the purpose of criticizing American society. Through the use of symbolism, themes, figurative language, diction and...show more content... The Valley is the only way to get from one Egg to another by road, or to go through to get to New York City. Fitzgerald uses the Valley to comment on the different social classes of the 1920s; it illustrates that the American dream is impossible to achieve. Fitzgerald describes the valley as a place where there are "ash–grey men" who can barely walk and breathe through the powdery grimy air. The irony of this industrialized area is that the ash–grey men are working their fullest potential to be able to keep up with the demands of the new urban areas like the East and West Egg. Fitzgerald also may be suggesting that the style citizens use to describe America is the wrong way; maybe America is not full of possibility after all. Fitzgerald suggests that life is only good for those who have money ; if one does not have money then one is an ash–grey man. He proposes those who say America is the land of the free but who turn people in social classes lower than theirs into slaves for their own selfish reasoning are one of the biggest kind of hypocrites. From these examples, one can see that both Twain and Fitzgerald effectively use symbolism to demonstrate their critiques of hypocrisy of American Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. This essay looks at The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Atonement written by Ian McEwan, and their film adaptations, The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrman and Atonement directed by Joe Wright. Many film directors that decide to adapt a novel to a film often change the essence and core message of the original work of the author. According to Paulo Coelho, the reader has a certain perception about the characters, scenes, and details of the novel. But when the reader goes to watch the film adaptation, all these perceptions and views are ruined and the reader often ends up leaving the film feeling disappointed. However, I do not agree that Joe Wright and Baz Luhrman changed the message of the two novels. To a large extent, I was not 'disappointed' by the film adaptations of The Great Gatsby and Atonement. I believe that both film directors have stayed loyal and faithful to the novel, they did not change my opinion on how I viewed the...show more content... F.Scott Fitzgerald describes the people as 'of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air' he gives us an image of the poor people – the people are stuck in the failure of the American dream. They are like the waste of America, and they cannot move forward. We also get an image of an area filled with dirt, thick air and poverty. In the film, we see details of this unpleasant place, and we get an image of the type of people who live there. In the film we immediately see that this 'farm' is a symbol of the failure of the American dream. Baz Luhrman displays this farmland exactly or even better than what one would imagine. I was not disappointed and in fact, I got a bigger understanding of what the failure of the American Dream Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content... The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
