How Does Shakespeare Show The Tension Between Puck And Oberon
Puck and Oberon – 3 minute speech
The section of the play that we chose to perform is a duologue in Act 3 Scene 2, between the
mischievous fairy Puck and the fairy king Oberon. The scene shows Oberon scolding Puck because
he accidentally anoints Lysander's eyes with the love juice instead of Demetrius's. Oberon then tells
Puck to find Helena and bring her to the clearing where they are right now so that he can charm
Demetrius's eyes to love Helena. This eventually caused confusion between the lovers, leaving
nobody to love Hermia.
This part of the play shows that messing with other people's feelings and emotions can be a cruel act
and they tend not to go as smoothly as you would've originally planed.
Shakespeare is conveying that humans too have foolish behaviours and commit wrong–doings in
their life. He does not criticise one person or a group of people but he criticises human behaviour in
general. Shakespeare criticises how we let our emotions overcome us and we fall in love ... Show

All fancy–sick she is and pale of cheer, with sighs of love that cost the fresh blood dear". Shows that
even though Oberon is indeed help the 'lovers' with their issues he does not help them out of pity. It
shows that his "charity work" isn't really charity. He is hoping that the Gods will see his kindness
and in some way help him with his issues. Another quote in this duologue is "Captain of our fairy
band, Helena is here at hand, and the youth mistook by me, pleading for a lover's fee. Shall we their
fond pageant see? Lord what fools the mortals be!" Shows that Puck is a follower of Oberon and
does not in a way think for himself. This quote also shows that he is cruel and does not respect
others. He makes fun of how they are fighting for eachothers love and that the tables have turned
everyone is in the opposite position. He also say that they are fools as if they cannot think and
follows their heart blindly even when what seems true is

Who Is Crazy In A Midsummer Night's Dream
In William Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream there is Makeups,Breakups and Love.
The characters go through a roller coaster of emotions throughout the play. Many emotions of the
characters are made confusing by the king of fairies Oberon and his servant Puck/Robin. The drama
throughout the play creates many problems for the characters. One of those characters is Helena, she
shows that love is crazy when she talks to Hermia, gives Demetrius permission to beat her and when
she talks to Demetrius in the woods. In the beginning of the play Helena is introduced with being in
love with Demetrius. The audience knows from the text that Demetrius is in love with Hermia.
While talking with Hermia, Helena says, "The more I love, the more he hateth me" (Shakespeare
199). Helena is talking about Demetrius in this instance. She is saying that the more she loves him
the more he hates her. This is the first introduction of the theme that love is crazy. Love is making ...

This is where Oberon sends Puck to put the love potion on Demetrius's eyes. Oberon gives Puck a
very vague description of who he is supposed to put the love potion on. Puck ends up putting the
love potion on Demetrius's and Lysander's eyes. The love potion works where whoever the person
sees first they will fall in love with. Lysander and Demetrius both happen to see Helena first when
they wake up, so they both fall in love with her. Helena thinks they are playing a joke on her and
doesn't believe what they are saying. Hermia comes into the mix and Helena thinks she is joking
with her too. While talking to Hermia, Helena says, "Wherefore speaks he this, To her he hates?"
(Shakespeare 230–231). In this line Helena is saying, "Why would he speak to me like this if he
hates me?" She is referring to when Demetrius was calling her beautiful and a goddess. This shows
how love is crazy, because it started with Demetrius hating her to now being in love with

Hippolyta Plot
There are multiple interconnecting story arcs in this play. The exposition of the story is when
Hermia is on trial for defying her father's wishes, as well as when Duke Theseus proclaims his love
to Hippolyta. The rising action is when the four youths run away from Athens, when the
Mechanicals are introduced, and both groups encounter the fairies. The climax is when the four
youths quarrel over the love spells, as well as when one of the laborers has his head replaced with
that of a donkey by Puck. The falling action is when the major human characters in the woods have
their magical predicaments fixed by the fairies (the youths join into two couples, Bottom's head is
restored to its normal condition). The denouement is when the Mechanicals put on the play for the
Theseus' and Hippolyta's wedding, and all of the conflict is resolved in each plotline. ... Show more

The connecting plotline, concerning the diplomatic marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta, has both of
those characters as protagonists. The antagonist is the threat of renewed conflict between the
Athenians and Amazons. The protagonists of the arc of the youths are the four youths, while the
antagonists are the adult figures who dissaprove of their romance. The protagonists of the arc of the
Mechanicals are the laborers who seek to put on a show for the Duke and Queen, while the
antagonist is Puck, who is magically interfering with them for his own amusement. The protagonist
of the arc of the fairies is King Oberon of the fairies, who seeks to revive the love with his wife,
Titania. The antagonist is Puck's misapplication of the love potion, which causes her to fall in love
with one of the laborers

A Midsummer Night's Dream Puck
One of the most fascinating characters in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream is
Puck, also known as Robin Goodfellow. In English and Celtic folklore, the word "Pouk" was a
medieval term for the devil: "Robin Goodfellow" was also a nickname for the devil. Although Puck
shows antagonistic qualities, many critics believe Puck to be the closest thing to a protagonist A
Midsummer Night's Dream has.
Puck is the only character that is directly involved in all of the action that takes place throughout the
play. Although the action doesn't affect Puck personally, without him, the events of the play
wouldn't take place. According to critic Ana Isabel Bordas del Prado, Puck is completely crucial to
the play, "although he appears to be a kind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Puck's interference with the Athenian citizen's relationships and the love flower emphasizes the "the
difficulties of love, the power of magic, the nature of dreams[,] and the relationships between
fantasy and reality" (Bordas del Prado). When Oberon sends Puck to mess with Titania, Puck makes
her fall in love with Nick Bottom, a member of the Athenian working class, after giving him the
head of a donkey. When Titania professes her newfound love for Bottom, he admits, "Methinks,
mistress, you should have little reason for that: and to say the truth, reason and love keep little
company together nowadays" (Shakespeare). Bottom sees how illogical Titania's interest in him is,
but he goes along with it anyways. Puck creates such a strange relationship out of thin air, between
two people that have absolutely nothing in common. The theme of love being completely
unpredictable is evident between these two, as well as it is between the four Athenian lovers.
Though Puck stirs up trouble, he is a benevolent spirit, and can easily convey the message of love to
the audience. Many times in Shakespeare's play, the main protagonist ends the show with a recap of
events and a goodbye blessing. At the end of the play, Puck closes the show with a positive
narration, "We will make amends ere long; else the Puck a liar

How Did Puck Grow In A Midsummer's Night Dream
Leaders have a responsibility to manage their power carefully. This idea can be seen in A
Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare. Oberon, the king of the fairies, wants the child
that his wife Titania adopts to become his henchman. He interferes in the lives of Hermia, Lysander,
Helena, and Demetrius while trying to get the child, which leads to the lovers' puzzlement and
chaos. Although many people believe Puck causes the confusion in the woods, Oberon actually
initiates the chaos because he decides to get involved with the lovers and gives Puck vague
directions.
Many people think that Puck instigates the confusion in the woods because he applies the flower to
the wrong person. Puck enjoys causing trouble and pranking innocent ... Show more content on

After Oberon decides to apply the flower to Demetrius, he tells Puck, "A sweet Athenian lady is in
love with a disdainful youth. Anoint his eyes... Thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments
he hath on." II.i.268–272. Because Lysander and Hermia run away to the woods and sleep apart
from each other, Puck follows the directions inaccurately. Oberon should have realized that multiple
Athenian men could travel through the woods simultaneously. Lysander wears Athenian clothes
similar to Demetrius', and Puck finds Lysander first. Then, when Oberon finds out Puck applied the
flower to Lysander, he gives the flower to Demetrius without removing the potion from Lysander.
He tells Puck, "I'll charm [Demetrius'] eyes against [Helena] do appear." III.ii.101. Since Demetrius
also falls in love with Helena, a serious argument between the lovers takes place about who loves
who. This whole mix–up between the lovers occurs because of Oberon's mistake in giving vague
instructions and his attempt to fix the

Who Is Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream
The character I chose to do an analysis of from the Story A Midsummer Night's Dream is Puck.
Puck's archetype is a trouble maker. Puck plays pranks on multiple characters in the story A
Midsummer Night's Dream. One of the pranks he pulled was on Bottom. Puck has been a trouble
maker his entire life. Throughout the story Puck pulls pranks on multiple characters that are small
but affective. Puck's largest prank though was on a character named Bottom. Puck makes the prank
on Bottom continue through the story, causing Bottom to struggle through the entire story due to
this prank. Puck makes Bottom think that he is sick throughout the story. Puck keeps telling Bottom
he is having symptoms like itchy skin, loss of hair, and "shrinking feet." The

Midsummer Night's Dream Puck Essay
In this play called the Midsummer night's dream it talks about this crazy love rectangle between
Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are important but not as important as
this little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people
fall in love with each other throwing off the balance of love in this play.
In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way
he talks in the play it's very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks
it's normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or
most important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the
balance of love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with
the girls fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their
for sure. During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a
main event of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we
may think that Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the
play because he's a fairy and I don't remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical
fairies lead by a fairy named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be
considered the most important character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be
happy, but when do we see a little man with horns mess with that love

Lysander In A Midsummer Night's Dream
I decided to do this part of the play because it's where everything goes wrong. Oberon asked Puck to
smear the potion on Demetrius eyes so that he will fall in love with helena. But Puck spreads the
magic potion over Lysander's eyes, thinking Lysander is Demetrius. Lysander falls into love with
Helena, who thinks he is toying with her. Then, Puck spreads the potion over Demetrius' eyes, so
that he, too, is in love with Helena. Helena thinks that both boys are cruelly mocking her, while
Hermia is left alone and equally confused. Puck's mistake separated true lovers that is hermia and
lysander. This part therefore is very significant to the play. Since i am making a children's book, i
was more intended to draw the pictures as if they were drawn by children and not use anime. I used
colored pencils instead of water colors or markers because they smudge and they bleed through
paper. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Midsummer Night's Dream Compare And Contrast
In A Midsummer Night's Dream Puck and Bottom are different in many ways including the way
they behave, their sense of humour, and how they deal with their problems. Puck may be considered
a protagonist because he is the character who puts the remedy on Lysander's eyes and corrects the
love problems with the Athenian lovers. Puck makes the mistake by putting the love potion on
Lysander's eyes, making him fall in love with Helena, forgetting Hermia. This causes problems
because Hermia is still in love with Lysander and Demetrius is in love with Hermia. Like every
protagonist, Puck fixes his mistakes and makes everything rights again. He does this by putting the
love potion on Demetrius' eyes and he then falls in love with Helena. He chases ... Show more

"On the ground, sleep sound, I'll apply, to your eye, gentle lover, remedy" (III.ii.461–65). When the
lovers wake in the morning Helena and Demetrius are in love and Hermia and Lysander are in love.
Unlike Puck, Bottom deals with his problems with the craftsman by trying to be better than them
rather than helping them. Puck's spirit is very lively and humorous when he messes up he watches
the outcome and laughs at it. For example, when he applies the potion to the wrong eyes he says
"Believe my King of Shadows, I mistook... and so far am I glad it so did sort, as this their jangling I
esteem a sport" (III.ii.363–4). This shows how his spirit dominates the play because Puck enjoys to
interact with others while Bottom thinks he is the best at everything and does not need the other
craftsmen. The comedy surrounding Puck differs from Bottom because Puck's sense of humour is
more sophisticated than Bottom's. An example of Bottom's sense of humour is when he uses the
incorrect verb when he is performing the play for the lovers. "I see a voice. Now will I to the chink,
to spy an I can hear my Thisbe's face" (V.i.186–7). An example of Puck's sense of humour is when
he turned Bottom into an ass. This is more sophisticated because Bottom does not realize that he has
been turned into an ass. It is also a metaphor for Bottom's attitude towards the other

Demetrius's Transformation
Love, False Love, Dream is all a part of the book/play, "Midnight summer Dream" by William
Shakespeare. I choose to do Demetrius he was the one who was in love the whole time. Not the
whole time with one girl but with two. He was in love with Helena. But Puck put a spell on him so
he would stop loving Helena. Demetrius start to love a different girl. But, really inside he love
Helena. Puck was the one who put a spell on him. Puck start going crazy and tried to fixed what he
has done wrong. He was trying to reverse the spell. After, a couple time Puck got the spell of and
after some time, he final get the woman he wants Helena. "Lysander, keep thy Hermia. I will none.
If e'er I loved her, all that love is gone.My heart to her but as guest–wise sojourned,And now to
Helen is it home returned, There to remain. (3.2.72–76)". This quote is explaining how Demetrius
has been enchanted, which should excuse him. But remember that this will be his second
transformation in love. First he loved Helena, then he loved Hermia, and now he loves Helena
again. Though we know this last transformation was caused by magic, he was fickle even before
being enchanted.

Helena admits that she loves many of Demetrius's "base and vile" qualities. It seems that love has
the capacity to blind us to the truth. This idea comes up again when Titania literally falls in love

Figurative Language In A Midsummer Night's Dream
The fairy character dubbed Robin Goodfellow, a Puck, declares his mischievousness and
playfulness throughout the play A Midsummer Night's Dream through the contents of his speech.
Robin loves being this little sprite that taunts and pranks the people near by, which can be seen
when he speaks to a fairy from Queen Titania's court (2.1.42–58), when he speaks to an oblivious
Bottom (3.1.94–99), and when he speaks to himself/the audience (5.1.357–376). Robin is a true
representation of a Shakespearean comedy character by showing who he actually is during the
entirety of the play. Robin's speech defines his true qualities and does little to hide the fact that he is
a teasing and devious sprite. Through his use of rhyme, alliteration, and disruption ... Show more

These disruptions in the patterns of rhyme or alteration, for example, illustrate how much Robin's
character causes chaos in the play. At the end of the ploy, however, Robin shows us a hint of a more
caring side when he proceeds to clean up after everyone has left the stage, which is also a disruption
in the pattern of Robin's nature. In one of his soliloquies, Robin's end rhyme pattern is ABAB except
for the last two couplets, which have a rhyme scheme of AABB (5.1.373–376). Robin's interruption
of his own rhyme scheme demonstrates how he can cause chaos throughout the play, but come back
to fix the wrongs he made at the end just like when he speaks, "I am sent with broom before to
sweep the dust behind the door."

person who requested for Puck to carry out most of these tasks, Puck is the character that blatantly
mistakes Lysander for Demetrius, puts the Ass's head on Nick Bottom, and forced Lysander to hate
Hermia for a while.

Characteristics Of Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedic play about a complex love relationship between four
lovers, Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius. The king of fairies, Oberon orders a hobgoblin
named Robin Goodfellow or "puck" to retrieve an extraordinary flower so he can put the juice into
the queen of fairies, Titania's eyes. This was an exceptional flower because when the juice is applied
to a person's eyelid, it makes them fall in love with the first creature they see. Robin obtains the
flower and drops the juice onto Titania, Demetrius, and Lysander's eyelids where they fall in love
with the wrong person. Titania falls in love with a weaver named Bottom, and Demetrius and
Lysander fall in love with Helena. Hermia starts to argue with Helena ... Show more content on

Robin is the hero of the play and is an amazing character.
In A Midsummer Night's Dream, there are many different choices that affect the storyline of the
play. One major choice that affected the storyline is when Robin anointed Demetrius and Lysander
with the juice of the flower. As a result of this happening, they both fell in love with Helena. Angry
of jealousy, Hermia started to fight Helena. Another action that majorly affected the plot was the
fact Oberon wanted to take the Indian boy away from Titania, so he comes up with the idea to put
the flower juice on her eyelids. Without this scheme, there would be no conflict and no solution to
the problem between the four lovers. Also, the fact that Robin agreed to anoint the liquid to the three
characters' eyelids was a crucial part of the plot. If Robin were to decline the offer, there would be
no storyline. Also, fate made Hermia and Lysander love each other which helped the play. Those
were some choices the characters made that heavily affected the story of the play.
The theme of A Midsummer Night's Dream is magic. The reason the theme of the play is magic is
because throughout the play, the main subject is how it shaped the characters' lives. One example of
magic is the "love potion". This love potion makes anyone fall in love with the first creature they
see if it is anointed on someone's eyelids. This potion made Demetrius, Titania, and Lysander fall
under a magic spell in which they fall in love with the

Puck In A Midsummer's Night Dream
Analysis
Shakespeare named his character Puck or Robin Goodfellow, because these names are an allusion to
shape–shifting and mischievous creatures of English and Celtic folklore. In A Midsummer's Night
Dream, Puck is a witty sprite who sets many of the play's events with his magic and foolish pranks
on the human characters. Shakespeare named him Robin Goodfellow and Puck in reference to
popular characters in English and Celtic folklore, which were depicted as either fairies, goblins or
devils. As a shape–shifter, Pouk had many appearances: a frightening creature with the head of an
ass, or an odd little figure, or a rough, hairy creature. "The fabled Robin Goodfellow was one of the
fairies known as "hobgoblins", also famous for shape–shifting and misleading travellers, but
sometimes a helpful domestic sprite" (Wright). The Shakespearean Puck well illustrates the ... Show

The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,
Sometime for three–foot stool mistaketh me;
Then slip I from her bum, down topples she (II.i.47–55)
This shows that Shakespeare's Puck is a shape–shifting creature, just like the mystical Pouk.
Surely, Shakespeare also chose these names for the mischievous traits of the creatures in old
folklore. The terms "Robin Goodfellow," and "Pouk" were typical medieval terms for the devil.
Pouk would turn into a horse and lead people on a wild ride, sometimes dumping them in water.
Robin Goodfellow would lead travelers with a lantern and then blow it out when they were at the
edge of a cliff. An expression for being lost is "Robin Goodfellow has been with you tonight"
(Wright). Puck's antics are also characterized this way by a Fairy: "Are not you he /
That frights the maidens of the villagery ... Mislead night wanderers, laughing at their harm?"
(II.i.35–40). All of Puck's troublesome tricks have made him infamous to the other fairies. His
fondness for shenanigans is shared with the ancient creatures of the same name.

Oberon Sucks 'In' A Midsummer Night's Dream

this essay the topic is a to persuade you, that Oberon is the cause of most of the madness in the play

The King Of Fairies OR The King Of Love? Love potions, broken hearts, and even a little bit of
sabotage are all many different factors that come into William Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night
Dream. All of these different elements became clear when a group of misunderstood characters
spend a night in the woods playing with eachothers hearts. Oberon being the king of the fairies is a
main center point of this night. Since he is the king of the fairies, he has possession of many
different abilities the make love almost a type of a game. Throughout the book Oberon plays many
different love games including putting love juice on Demetrius' eyes, playing with Titania and even
being too "powerful" to do some things that relate to love.
A huge example of Oberon trying to play games with other's hearts was when he sent Puck also
known as Robin Goodfellow to put some flower juice on Titania's eyes. Love in the real world is
something that is not usually messed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One big example that is said right in the beginning of the book is when he sends Puck to retrieve the
magical flower juice for him. Though Puck says that it would only take him at most forty minutes to
retrieve the flower across the world, he still decides to do it for Oberon. Being king of all fairies,
when compared to the other fairies indeed he is on top of the podium. But, when compared to other
characters in the book he isn't as high and tall that he seems to be.
One the night is all said and done, the game that Oberon is trying to fly finally comes to an end.
Along with winning the game, him and Puck decide to fix all of the damage that they have caused
with the biggest one being Oberon and titania becoming lovers once again. This itself shows that

stems from the Indian boy that Titania has sworn to take care of. When Titania and Oberon enter the
scene, Titania states that she will no longer be a companion for her husband. After she announces
this, Oberon calls her a stubborn creature, which she finds insulting. After he insults her an
argument ensues between the couple about the Indian Boy. At the end of the argument, Titania
decides she will go into the woods for an undetermined about

Who Is Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream
Although there is no true protagonist in the story, many people would argue that Puck is the most
important character in the Midsummer nights dream play. Many of the major conflicts in this story
happen because of Puck.
For example when Oberon sent Puck to find the magical flower and place it on Demetrius' eye .
Since Puck had never seen what Demetrius looks like he accidentally puts the flower juice on
Lysander's eye, causing Lysander to fall in love with Helena. Oberon sees the mistake Puck has
made and sends him to fix the problem, so Puck goes out and puts the flower juice on Demetrius'
eye while he is asleep. This leads to Hermia and Helena getting in a fight because Hermia blames
Helena for both men falling in love

Who Is The Donkey In A Midsummer Night's Dream
In the play A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, act 3 scene 1 shows the comical
and entertaining exchange between Bottom and Titania. When Titania awakens from her sleep, the
potion Oberon had placed on her eyes goes into full effect, and the first person she sees is Bottom.
Titania falls in love with Bottom, who has been transformed into a donkey because of his selfish
actions.
The fact that Bottom's personality is one of an asshole, Puck turning him into a real donkey is
humorous. Bottoms response to being turned into a donkey is, "I see their knavery: this is to make
an ass of me, to fright me if they could. But I will not stir from this place, do what they can. I will

Puck To Make Lysander Fall In Love With Hermia
Character Essay The love potion was given out by Puck to make Lysander fall in love with Hermia.
Does making people fall in love actually bring out the true love between them? I believe that love
potion should only be used if you really like someone and not just giving it to random people. There
are other ways into finding true love then to give out potion. Is true love mean for everybody? My
definition of true love is to like everything about them and to see another side to the person that
most don't. I think it is very possible to find true love without having to use a love potion. Hermia
loves Lysander but her father doesn't want her to marry him, he wants her to marry Demetrious
which is not fair for the true love that hermia has

William Shakespeare 's A Midsummer Night 's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream: Too Much of Something Is A Bad Thing
In any history textbook, there will most definitely be at least one example of a royal leader
overthrown by their citizens. But why is it that some royal leaders, or any very powerful leaders,
have trouble controlling their power? The answer is found in the amount of power the leaders
possess, and how they choose to control it. The historic leaders found in history books often lose
control of their power because their amount of power is too large, so it is very difficult to use it
effectively. Oberon and Puck, characters in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, learn this
the hard way, and use their power to attempt at solving the problems of the four lovers. Oberon and
Puck are the characters with the most power in the play because of their supernatural advantage,
similar to how a royal leader is born into their position. They create many unnecessary problems
while doing this, such as Nick Bottom and Titania 's strange love, and Helena's supposed
mockery. In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a large amount of power is proved as
difficult to control, and too much power in the hands of only a few characters can create more
problems than there originally was, because of miscommunication and poor planning of the
characters in power.
Shakespeare first introduces an example of how a lot of power is difficult to control with imagery of
a foggy, dark night in a forest. Here, Oberon ordered Puck to create

How Does Puck Present Hermia In A Midsummer Night's Dream
1. The first time Puck makes an appearance in the play she turns Bottom into a donkey. She also
puts love potion in Titania's eyes (Act II scene I lines 250–268) so that when she would wake up the
first person or thing she would see she would fall in love with. She woke up and first noticed
Bottom who was half donkey. She fell in love with him and continued to follow him around. Puck
also did this exact same procedure to Lysander while he was sleeping with distance from Hermia
Helena woke up Lysander, and he began to fall in love with Helena. Helena didn't believe Lysander
that he loved her. Puck uses the love potion to purposely cause problems with all of the couples in
the play. He seems to enjoy watching couples fight and have problems.

personality. She likes to fight for what she believes in no matter what others think. Her father pre

father and tells him that no matter what she will be with Lysander (Act I scene i 50–83). She runs

Hermia loved Demetrius but he did not love her so Oberon wanted to make him love her so he

Titania In A Midsummer Night's Dream By William Shakespeare
Sometimes people try to control other people. In William Shakespeare's play, a midsummer night's
dream, Titania and Oberon are married. Titania is trying to get Oberon to go to the wedding with her
and Oberon is trying to get Titania to give him something he wants. Oberon wants to control Titania.
Titania has an Indian boy left to her by one of her worshipers. Oberon thinks the boy is interesting
and wants him to make his crew more diverse. Titania refuses to give him the boy out of loyalty to
her follower. In that way, she wants to remain in control of her own life.
You can't control someone because often the results are unpredictable. Oberon asks puck to put
magic flower potion on Demetrius's eyes. "a sweet Athenian lady is in love with a young man wants
nothing to do with her. Put some of this juice on his eyes..." (2.1.260–264) Puck does put the juice
on the Athenian man but it is the wrong man. Since he poisons the wrong man, the results are
unpredictable. Titania falls in love with the wrong man, the first man she sees, bottom. Oberon then
says, "I can cure her with another plant– but I'll make her give me the boy as my page" (2.1.182–

wont be in love with that monster anymore. Then everything will be peaceful again." (3.2.375–377)
Later oberon tells robin, "I asked for the stolen indian child. She said yes right away... and now I
have the boy, ill undo the spell that makes her vision so discustingly wrong." (4.1.55–61) As you

Theme Of Deception In A Midsummer Night's Dream
Deception
Ritik Vanvani
There are many different themes in The Midsummer Night's Dream. The main theme or the most
important is deception. Deception occurs to many actors in the book. The top three groups that
deception has occurred to are, the first group Bottom, Titania, and Oberon. The second group is
Lysander and Hermia deceiving the kingdom. The last group is the Actors. Deception is the action
of deceiving someone.
Titania gets deceived by Oberon because he ordered Puck to put a love potion into Titania's eyes.He
did it because he wanted her attention and wanted the child for himself. "I'll watch Titania when she
is asleep, And drop the liquor of it in her eyes" (II,1,551–552). Titania was busy with the child and
never payed attention to Oberon. "Give me that boy, and I will go with thee" (II,1,513). Oberon
deceiving Titania wasn't the only deception, the second deception was the love potion. The love
potion made Bottom to appear handsome, but in reality Bottom had a face of an ass (donkey). "I
pray thee, gentle mortal, sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They deceived them by running away to marry each other, which they were forbidden to do. "Steal
forth thy father's house to–morrow night;" (I,I,170). Hermia's father doesn't wants Hermia to be with
Lysander. He wants her to marry Demetrius. Lysander makes a plan to run away and deceive
everyone who didn't agree with their relationship. Lysander wants to run away and marry Hermia.
Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, and Starveling deceive themselves thinking they are
exceptional actors but in reality they are really bad at acting. This is an example of deception
because they are doing it to themselves. They think they are really good but in reality, they are not.
Bottom is the one that thinks he can play all the roles and thinks he is the best actor in the world.

Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream Essay
Interference: The Role of Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream
Puck, one of the main characters in A Midsummer Night's Dream, exclaims, "Lord, what fools these
mortals be" (III.ii.117)! In this quote, he is speaking to Oberon, his master, about the silliness that he
sees displayed by Helena, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius due to the petty squabbles that continue
to take place between them. However, while Puck laughs on in amusement about the stupidity of the
mortals, he fails to acknowledge his role in that matter. Puck is the clear root of all problems in A
Midsummer Night's Dream because he causes the disagreements and confusion between the lovers
and he fails to show remorse or regret following his wrong doings. One reason why Puck is the ...

This argument is clearly supported when Puck says, "Did you not tell me I should know the man/ by
the Athenian garments he had on?/ And so far blameless proves my enterprise/ that I have 'nointed
an Athenian's eyes" (III. ii, 369–372). This quote reveals Puck's innate characteristics by showing
his utter lack of guilt even after he made the lives of the four lovers worse off by putting the flower's
nectar on the wrong person. Although, he is correct in stating how Oberon's instructions were not
entirely clear, he still fails to apologize for his mistake. It is also important to note that Puck is not
oblivious to the outcomes of his mistakes. He notices his faults have implications on the lives of
Hermia, Helena, Lysander, Demetrius and those around them, and yet he sits back, laughs, and
watches the scenes play out. This claim is also supported when Puck declares, "Cupid is a knavish
lad/ thus to make poor females mad" (III.ii. 469–470). In this quote, Puck states that Cupid is the
cause of the quarrels between Helena and Hermia due to the fact that it was Cupid's arrow that shot
the flower used to anoint the eyes of Lysander. He uses this as a sort of excuse or way to back out of
taking responsibility for his actions and mistakes. However, it was Puck who used that flower on
Lysander which caused the

How Does Magic Affect Relationships In A Midsummer Night's...
In William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream magic plays an evident role for many
people, mainly affecting their relationship in a negative way. Magic effects three pairs of people:
Hermia and Lysander, Hermia and Helena, and Titania and Oberon. Cupid's Flower, a magical love
potion, instigates many quarrels and brings relationships almost to an end. Hermia and Lysander are
deeply in love, however Cupid's flower is spread over Lysander's eyes and he falls in love with
Hermia's best friend, Helena. Another relationship is deeply affected because Hermia accuses
Helena of stealing her man. This is where the idea of "perception vs. reality" plays a roll.. A
character has a perception of the way something is, while reality is far different. Lastly, Titania and
Oberon's love is afflicted as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hermia and Lysander are deeply in love with one another; however, Oberon, the king of the fairies,
instructs Puck, a mischievous fairy, to spread the love juice upon the eyes of Demetrious so that he
will fall in love with Helena. Instead of following Oberon's orders, Puck mistakenly spread the
potion on the eyes Lysander. As soon as he awakes, he lays eyes upon Helena and falls in love with
her and says, "... And run through fire I will for thy sweet sake/ Transparent Helena! Nature shows
art/ That through thy bosom makes me see thy heart"(2.2. 103–105). Lysander shows that he no
longer loves Hermia and loves her best friend, Helena. Shakespeare shows the weakness of Hermia
and Lysander's relationship, and as soon as magic influences them, their bond begins to crumble. As
magic hurts one bond, it also threatens Hermia and Helena's relationship. Hermia is furious with
Helena for stealing away Lysander's love, but doesn't know that magic is the only reason for it.
Hermia accuses Helena of using her height to her advantage, and believes that is the reason

Power Of Magic In A Midsummer Night's Dream
The Power of Magic in A Midsummer Night's Dream One of the most important elements of
Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream is the contrast between the "real" world and a world
lived in by fairies, and other magical beings and forces. Magic is a powerful and useful tool for the
characters that can use it. Some characters abuse the power of magic, while others are more
responsible in how they use it. Shakespeare plays with the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
Like the reality and illusion and the mirrored world of fair and human. He looks at into man's
conflict with characteristics of human behavior. A Midsummer Night's Dream contains many
supernatural elements for example magic and transformation. Oberon is one of the characters that
abuse the power of magic. Oberon is the King of the Fairies, his magic affects his own life, and the
lives of other characters and everyone experience his magic differently. Oberon is married to
Titania, Queen of the Fairies, who got an Indian boy from her friend who passed away. Oberon
desperately wants the Indian boy to be one of his followers, but the boy is one of Titania followers
and she will not give him up. This is when Oberon decides to use magic so he could win the Indian
boy. Oberon uses the magic of a flower to make his wife, Titania fall in love with the creature she
sees. Oberon says, "Fetch me that flower; the herd I shew'd thee once: / The juice of it in sleeping
eye–lids laid / Will make or man or woman madly dote

Midsummer Night's Dream Supernatural
The rule of law, supernatural, and commoners in a chaos.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy play unfolding in three juxtaposed settings. It shows the
events related to the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and Hyppolita including adventures
of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur commoners/actors who are manipulated
by fairies and their supernatural tricks. The author of this play is William Shakespeare.
The three settings of the play are the forest, the Dukes Palace, and the Quince's cottage. All the
mysterious and magical events take place in the forest. It is full of emotions and feelings. In contrast
with the forest, things happening in the palace and the characters seem to be guardians of the law
and order. The Quince's cottage is full of humor and jokes and represents a lower class society in
contrast to the Duke's palace.

It contains plain jokes and silly humor. It's sarcastic that Quince being an ordinary carpenter is also

is also the idea of trying to explain to the audience the meaning of the play as they act.
The significance for each setting in this story is different. In the Duke's palace there is law and
order, in the forest it is the supernatural, and in Quince's cottage it is humor and jokes.
The three settings of this play are a good to portray the life and the various layers of society:the

A Midsummer Night's Dream Research Paper (with Cited)
The play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare, is about four lovers and their
"dreamlike" adventure through a fairy ruled forest. There are many different characters in this play
and they each play their own individual role in how the play is performed and read. Three main
characters that showed great characteristics are: Puck, Tom Bottom, and Helena. The play, "A
Midsummer Nights Dream" by William Shakespeare, uses characters and their conflicts to give
meaning to this piece of literature.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" was written in the early part of William Shakespeare's life in 1596.

Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends."
Nick Bottom is another comical character that makes the audience laughs from his overconfidence
in him. He is one of the central figures in the subplot of the production of the "Pyamus and Thisbe"
story. He brings his comedy from his extraordinary belief in his own abilities. Bottom thinks he is
perfect at everything he does, yet he is a horrible actor and frequently makes rhetorical and
grammatical mistakes in his speech. His humor stems from the fact that he's not aware of how
ridiculous he is.
Titania falls madly in love with Bottom after she was anointed with a love potion and Bottom's head
has been turned into that of an ass. He thinks nothing out of the ordinary about a fairy queen that has
fallen in deeply in love with him. His inability to perceive the fact that his head had been
transformed and a fairy queen has fallen in love with him parallels how absurd he is.
Although Puck and Bottom may stand out as two of the main characters they aren't involved in the
main conflict. Helena, who is desperately in love with Demetrius, may be the most drawn out
character. Helena is he one lover who thinks more about the nature of love than the actual thing. She
is extremely unsure about herself and thinks about her appearance a lot and

very proud queen who enjoys being the leader of the fairies. She is a nice, friendly individual, is
strong–willed, intelligent, daring and a powerful woman in the play that enjoys feeling "bigger" than
others, which is being the head person of her fairies. She is married to her husband named Oberon
who she loves to death. She likes to think she can trust everyone and she hopes to think people are

Then Oberon is satisfied and undoes the spell on his wife. He also takes off the head of the donkey
and later then him and Titina officially become the king and the queen of all of the fairies. The main
conflict between Titania and Oberon is part of the plot as it would drive the mix ups and confusions
of the other characters in the play. She had different emotions throughout the play. Which means
that without Titania, the fact of having Oberon's anger in the play drives the entire action of the play,
and would be impossible to carry out the plot in the play. Titania is the beautiful Queen of the fairies
and Bottom represents the crazy, foolish and mortal in the play. It seems impossible to imagine two
figures less compatible with each other, if the magical Titania can fall in love with a donkey, then
anything could happen at any given time in life. With love anything can happen, just like what

relation to the transaction and the other party has reason to know of his condition. For example, in

A Midsummer Night's Dream Research Paper
Magic and mischief are no strange feat in the works of William Shakespeare, and nor are fairies. In
A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare the fairies serve as the source for both magic and
mischief. While the play itself focuses mainly on four lovers lost within the woods, the fairies play
an integral part in advancing the plot. Oberon, Titania, and Puck serve as both instigators and
observers of the madness between Helena, Hermia, Demetrius and Lysander. But are they merely a
plot device utilized by Shakespeare when convenient? Or do the fairies of A Midsummer Night's
Dream hold a deeper cultural significance than initially thought? Through this paper, I hope to

In the forefront of the play are Demetrius, Lysander, Hermia, and Helena, but the plot of the play,
and the focus of the subplot, hinges on three main fairs. On the fairies, Miller states that "not only
are they obviously the most striking feature of the comedy; intellectually they are the most
provocative, too." (Miller 254) The fairies' involvement in the play, and with the four main
characters, begins with a quarrel between Titania and Oberon over an Indian changeling. When
Oberon witnesses Helena's love for Demetrius, and his rejection of her, her said to Puck "anoint his
eyes, but do it when the next thing he espies may be the lady. Thou shalt know the man by the
Athenian garments he hath on." (Act. 2 Scene. 2 Line. 269–272) Puck then goes on to give Bottom
the head of a donkey and put a spell on Titania to make her fall for the beast. After the revelation
that Puck had put a spell on the wrong Athenian, and a spell is put on Demetrius so he too is in love
with Helena, Puck's mischieveous behavior leads to the central plot of the play. In act 2 scene 3 of A
Midsummer Night's Dream, Puck asks Oberon "shall we their fond pageant see? Lord what fools
these mortals be!" (Act. 3 Scene. 2 Line. 116–117) Puck allows the Athenians to quarrel over who

How Does Shakespeare Show The Tension Between Puck And Oberon

  • 1. How Does Shakespeare Show The Tension Between Puck And Oberon Puck and Oberon – 3 minute speech The section of the play that we chose to perform is a duologue in Act 3 Scene 2, between the mischievous fairy Puck and the fairy king Oberon. The scene shows Oberon scolding Puck because he accidentally anoints Lysander's eyes with the love juice instead of Demetrius's. Oberon then tells Puck to find Helena and bring her to the clearing where they are right now so that he can charm Demetrius's eyes to love Helena. This eventually caused confusion between the lovers, leaving nobody to love Hermia. This part of the play shows that messing with other people's feelings and emotions can be a cruel act and they tend not to go as smoothly as you would've originally planed. Shakespeare is conveying that humans too have foolish behaviours and commit wrong–doings in their life. He does not criticise one person or a group of people but he criticises human behaviour in general. Shakespeare criticises how we let our emotions overcome us and we fall in love ... Shows that even though Oberon is indeed help the 'lovers' with their issues he does not help them out of pity. It shows that his "charity work" isn't really charity. He is hoping that the Gods will see his kindness and in some way help him with his issues. Another quote in this duologue is "Captain of our fairy band, Helena is here at hand, and the youth mistook by me, pleading for a lover's fee. Shall we their fond pageant see? Lord what fools the mortals be!" Shows that Puck is a follower of Oberon and does not in a way think for himself. This quote also shows that he is cruel and does not respect others. He makes fun of how they are fighting for eachothers love and that the tables have turned everyone is in the opposite position. He also say that they are fools as if they cannot think and follows their heart blindly even when what seems true is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Who Is Crazy In A Midsummer Night's Dream In William Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream there is Makeups,Breakups and Love. The characters go through a roller coaster of emotions throughout the play. Many emotions of the characters are made confusing by the king of fairies Oberon and his servant Puck/Robin. The drama throughout the play creates many problems for the characters. One of those characters is Helena, she shows that love is crazy when she talks to Hermia, gives Demetrius permission to beat her and when she talks to Demetrius in the woods. In the beginning of the play Helena is introduced with being in love with Demetrius. The audience knows from the text that Demetrius is in love with Hermia. While talking with Hermia, Helena says, "The more I love, the more he hateth me" (Shakespeare 199). Helena is talking about Demetrius in this instance. She is saying that the more she loves him the more he hates her. This is the first introduction of the theme that love is crazy. Love is making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where Oberon sends Puck to put the love potion on Demetrius's eyes. Oberon gives Puck a very vague description of who he is supposed to put the love potion on. Puck ends up putting the love potion on Demetrius's and Lysander's eyes. The love potion works where whoever the person sees first they will fall in love with. Lysander and Demetrius both happen to see Helena first when they wake up, so they both fall in love with her. Helena thinks they are playing a joke on her and doesn't believe what they are saying. Hermia comes into the mix and Helena thinks she is joking with her too. While talking to Hermia, Helena says, "Wherefore speaks he this, To her he hates?" (Shakespeare 230–231). In this line Helena is saying, "Why would he speak to me like this if he hates me?" She is referring to when Demetrius was calling her beautiful and a goddess. This shows how love is crazy, because it started with Demetrius hating her to now being in love with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hippolyta Plot There are multiple interconnecting story arcs in this play. The exposition of the story is when Hermia is on trial for defying her father's wishes, as well as when Duke Theseus proclaims his love to Hippolyta. The rising action is when the four youths run away from Athens, when the Mechanicals are introduced, and both groups encounter the fairies. The climax is when the four youths quarrel over the love spells, as well as when one of the laborers has his head replaced with that of a donkey by Puck. The falling action is when the major human characters in the woods have their magical predicaments fixed by the fairies (the youths join into two couples, Bottom's head is restored to its normal condition). The denouement is when the Mechanicals put on the play for the Theseus' and Hippolyta's wedding, and all of the conflict is resolved in each plotline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The connecting plotline, concerning the diplomatic marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta, has both of those characters as protagonists. The antagonist is the threat of renewed conflict between the Athenians and Amazons. The protagonists of the arc of the youths are the four youths, while the antagonists are the adult figures who dissaprove of their romance. The protagonists of the arc of the Mechanicals are the laborers who seek to put on a show for the Duke and Queen, while the antagonist is Puck, who is magically interfering with them for his own amusement. The protagonist of the arc of the fairies is King Oberon of the fairies, who seeks to revive the love with his wife, Titania. The antagonist is Puck's misapplication of the love potion, which causes her to fall in love with one of the laborers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Midsummer Night's Dream Puck One of the most fascinating characters in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream is Puck, also known as Robin Goodfellow. In English and Celtic folklore, the word "Pouk" was a medieval term for the devil: "Robin Goodfellow" was also a nickname for the devil. Although Puck shows antagonistic qualities, many critics believe Puck to be the closest thing to a protagonist A Midsummer Night's Dream has. Puck is the only character that is directly involved in all of the action that takes place throughout the play. Although the action doesn't affect Puck personally, without him, the events of the play wouldn't take place. According to critic Ana Isabel Bordas del Prado, Puck is completely crucial to the play, "although he appears to be a kind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Puck's interference with the Athenian citizen's relationships and the love flower emphasizes the "the difficulties of love, the power of magic, the nature of dreams[,] and the relationships between fantasy and reality" (Bordas del Prado). When Oberon sends Puck to mess with Titania, Puck makes her fall in love with Nick Bottom, a member of the Athenian working class, after giving him the head of a donkey. When Titania professes her newfound love for Bottom, he admits, "Methinks, mistress, you should have little reason for that: and to say the truth, reason and love keep little company together nowadays" (Shakespeare). Bottom sees how illogical Titania's interest in him is, but he goes along with it anyways. Puck creates such a strange relationship out of thin air, between two people that have absolutely nothing in common. The theme of love being completely unpredictable is evident between these two, as well as it is between the four Athenian lovers. Though Puck stirs up trouble, he is a benevolent spirit, and can easily convey the message of love to the audience. Many times in Shakespeare's play, the main protagonist ends the show with a recap of events and a goodbye blessing. At the end of the play, Puck closes the show with a positive narration, "We will make amends ere long; else the Puck a liar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did Puck Grow In A Midsummer's Night Dream Leaders have a responsibility to manage their power carefully. This idea can be seen in A Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare. Oberon, the king of the fairies, wants the child that his wife Titania adopts to become his henchman. He interferes in the lives of Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius while trying to get the child, which leads to the lovers' puzzlement and chaos. Although many people believe Puck causes the confusion in the woods, Oberon actually initiates the chaos because he decides to get involved with the lovers and gives Puck vague directions. Many people think that Puck instigates the confusion in the woods because he applies the flower to the wrong person. Puck enjoys causing trouble and pranking innocent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Oberon decides to apply the flower to Demetrius, he tells Puck, "A sweet Athenian lady is in love with a disdainful youth. Anoint his eyes... Thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments he hath on." II.i.268–272. Because Lysander and Hermia run away to the woods and sleep apart from each other, Puck follows the directions inaccurately. Oberon should have realized that multiple Athenian men could travel through the woods simultaneously. Lysander wears Athenian clothes similar to Demetrius', and Puck finds Lysander first. Then, when Oberon finds out Puck applied the flower to Lysander, he gives the flower to Demetrius without removing the potion from Lysander. He tells Puck, "I'll charm [Demetrius'] eyes against [Helena] do appear." III.ii.101. Since Demetrius also falls in love with Helena, a serious argument between the lovers takes place about who loves who. This whole mix–up between the lovers occurs because of Oberon's mistake in giving vague instructions and his attempt to fix the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Who Is Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream The character I chose to do an analysis of from the Story A Midsummer Night's Dream is Puck. Puck's archetype is a trouble maker. Puck plays pranks on multiple characters in the story A Midsummer Night's Dream. One of the pranks he pulled was on Bottom. Puck has been a trouble maker his entire life. Throughout the story Puck pulls pranks on multiple characters that are small but affective. Puck's largest prank though was on a character named Bottom. Puck makes the prank on Bottom continue through the story, causing Bottom to struggle through the entire story due to this prank. Puck makes Bottom think that he is sick throughout the story. Puck keeps telling Bottom he is having symptoms like itchy skin, loss of hair, and "shrinking feet." The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Midsummer Night's Dream Puck Essay In this play called the Midsummer night's dream it talks about this crazy love rectangle between Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are important but not as important as this little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in love with each other throwing off the balance of love in this play. In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way he talks in the play it's very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks it's normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the balance of love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with the girls fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their for sure. During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play because he's a fairy and I don't remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical fairies lead by a fairy named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be considered the most important character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man with horns mess with that love ... • 8. Lysander In A Midsummer Night's Dream I decided to do this part of the play because it's where everything goes wrong. Oberon asked Puck to smear the potion on Demetrius eyes so that he will fall in love with helena. But Puck spreads the magic potion over Lysander's eyes, thinking Lysander is Demetrius. Lysander falls into love with Helena, who thinks he is toying with her. Then, Puck spreads the potion over Demetrius' eyes, so that he, too, is in love with Helena. Helena thinks that both boys are cruelly mocking her, while Hermia is left alone and equally confused. Puck's mistake separated true lovers that is hermia and lysander. This part therefore is very significant to the play. Since i am making a children's book, i was more intended to draw the pictures as if they were drawn by children and not use anime. I used colored pencils instead of water colors or markers because they smudge and they bleed through paper. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. A Midsummer Night's Dream Compare And Contrast In A Midsummer Night's Dream Puck and Bottom are different in many ways including the way they behave, their sense of humour, and how they deal with their problems. Puck may be considered a protagonist because he is the character who puts the remedy on Lysander's eyes and corrects the love problems with the Athenian lovers. Puck makes the mistake by putting the love potion on Lysander's eyes, making him fall in love with Helena, forgetting Hermia. This causes problems because Hermia is still in love with Lysander and Demetrius is in love with Hermia. Like every protagonist, Puck fixes his mistakes and makes everything rights again. He does this by putting the love potion on Demetrius' eyes and he then falls in love with Helena. He chases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "On the ground, sleep sound, I'll apply, to your eye, gentle lover, remedy" (III.ii.461–65). When the lovers wake in the morning Helena and Demetrius are in love and Hermia and Lysander are in love. Unlike Puck, Bottom deals with his problems with the craftsman by trying to be better than them rather than helping them. Puck's spirit is very lively and humorous when he messes up he watches the outcome and laughs at it. For example, when he applies the potion to the wrong eyes he says "Believe my King of Shadows, I mistook... and so far am I glad it so did sort, as this their jangling I esteem a sport" (III.ii.363–4). This shows how his spirit dominates the play because Puck enjoys to interact with others while Bottom thinks he is the best at everything and does not need the other craftsmen. The comedy surrounding Puck differs from Bottom because Puck's sense of humour is more sophisticated than Bottom's. An example of Bottom's sense of humour is when he uses the incorrect verb when he is performing the play for the lovers. "I see a voice. Now will I to the chink, to spy an I can hear my Thisbe's face" (V.i.186–7). An example of Puck's sense of humour is when he turned Bottom into an ass. This is more sophisticated because Bottom does not realize that he has been turned into an ass. It is also a metaphor for Bottom's attitude towards the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Demetrius's Transformation Love, False Love, Dream is all a part of the book/play, "Midnight summer Dream" by William Shakespeare. I choose to do Demetrius he was the one who was in love the whole time. Not the whole time with one girl but with two. He was in love with Helena. But Puck put a spell on him so he would stop loving Helena. Demetrius start to love a different girl. But, really inside he love Helena. Puck was the one who put a spell on him. Puck start going crazy and tried to fixed what he has done wrong. He was trying to reverse the spell. After, a couple time Puck got the spell of and after some time, he final get the woman he wants Helena. "Lysander, keep thy Hermia. I will none. If e'er I loved her, all that love is gone.My heart to her but as guest–wise sojourned,And now to Helen is it home returned, There to remain. (3.2.72–76)". This quote is explaining how Demetrius has been enchanted, which should excuse him. But remember that this will be his second transformation in love. First he loved Helena, then he loved Hermia, and now he loves Helena again. Though we know this last transformation was caused by magic, he was fickle even before being enchanted. • 11. Figurative Language In A Midsummer Night's Dream The fairy character dubbed Robin Goodfellow, a Puck, declares his mischievousness and playfulness throughout the play A Midsummer Night's Dream through the contents of his speech. Robin loves being this little sprite that taunts and pranks the people near by, which can be seen when he speaks to a fairy from Queen Titania's court (2.1.42–58), when he speaks to an oblivious Bottom (3.1.94–99), and when he speaks to himself/the audience (5.1.357–376). Robin is a true representation of a Shakespearean comedy character by showing who he actually is during the entirety of the play. Robin's speech defines his true qualities and does little to hide the fact that he is a teasing and devious sprite. Through his use of rhyme, alliteration, and disruption ... In one of his soliloquies, Robin's end rhyme pattern is ABAB except for the last two couplets, which have a rhyme scheme of AABB (5.1.373–376). Characteristics Of Puck In A Midsummer Night's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedic play about a complex love relationship between four lovers, Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius. The king of fairies, Oberon orders a hobgoblin named Robin Goodfellow or "puck" to retrieve an extraordinary flower so he can put the juice into the queen of fairies, Titania's eyes. This was an exceptional flower because when the juice is applied to a person's eyelid, it makes them fall in love with the first creature they see. Robin is the hero of the play and is an amazing character. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, there are many different choices that affect the storyline of the play. One major choice that affected the storyline is when Robin anointed Demetrius and Lysander with the juice of the flower. As a result of this happening, they both fell in love with Helena. Angry of jealousy, Hermia started to fight Helena. Another action that majorly affected the plot was the fact Oberon wanted to take the Indian boy away from Titania, so he comes up with the idea to put the flower juice on her eyelids. Without this scheme, there would be no conflict and no solution to the problem between the four lovers. Also, the fact that Robin agreed to anoint the liquid to the three characters' eyelids was a crucial part of the plot. If Robin were to decline the offer, there would be no storyline. Also, fate made Hermia and Lysander love each other which helped the play. Those were some choices the characters made that heavily affected the story of the play. The theme of A Midsummer Night's Dream is magic. The reason the theme of the play is magic is because throughout the play, the main subject is how it shaped the characters' lives. • 15. Puck In A Midsummer's Night Dream Analysis Shakespeare named his character Puck or Robin Goodfellow, because these names are an allusion to shape–shifting and mischievous creatures of English and Celtic folklore. In A Midsummer's Night Dream, Puck is a witty sprite who sets many of the play's events with his magic and foolish pranks on the human characters. • 25. William Shakespeare 's A Midsummer Night 's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream: Too Much of Something Is A Bad Thing In any history textbook, there will most definitely be at least one example of a royal leader overthrown by their citizens. But why is it that some royal leaders, or any very powerful leaders, have trouble controlling their power? The answer is found in the amount of power the leaders possess, and how they choose to control it. The historic leaders found in history books often lose control of their power because their amount of power is too large, so it is very difficult to use it effectively. Oberon and Puck, characters in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, learn this the hard way, and use their power to attempt at solving the problems of the four lovers. Oberon and Puck are the characters with the most power in the play because of their supernatural advantage, similar to how a royal leader is born into their position. They create many unnecessary problems while doing this, such as Nick Bottom and Titania 's strange love, and Helena's supposed mockery. In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a large amount of power is proved as difficult to control, and too much power in the hands of only a few characters can create more problems than there originally was, because of miscommunication and poor planning of the characters in power. Shakespeare first introduces an example of how a lot of power is difficult to control with imagery of a foggy, dark night in a forest. Here, Oberon ordered Puck to create ... This quote reveals Puck's innate characteristics by showing his utter lack of guilt even after he made the lives of the four lovers worse off by putting the flower's nectar on the wrong person. Although, he is correct in stating how Oberon's instructions were not entirely clear, he still fails to apologize for his mistake. It is also important to note that Puck is not oblivious to the outcomes of his mistakes. He notices his faults have implications on the lives of Hermia, Helena, Lysander, Demetrius and those around them, and yet he sits back, laughs, and watches the scenes play out. This claim is also supported when Puck declares, "Cupid is a knavish lad/ thus to make poor females mad" (III.ii. 469–470). In this quote, Puck states that Cupid is the cause of the quarrels between Helena and Hermia due to the fact that it was Cupid's arrow that shot the flower used to anoint the eyes of Lysander. It shows the events related to the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and Hyppolita including adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur commoners/actors who are manipulated by fairies and their supernatural tricks. The author of this play is William Shakespeare. The three settings of the play are the forest, the Dukes Palace, and the Quince's cottage. All the mysterious and magical events take place in the forest. It is full of emotions and feelings. It contains plain jokes and silly humor. It's sarcastic that Quince being an ordinary carpenter is also the director of the mini play the commoners are preparing for the wedding. Not only he is willing to direct the play also does he think he can perform all the roles better than anyone else. Quite infantile is also the idea of trying to explain to the audience the meaning of the play as they act. The significance for each setting in this story is different. In the Duke's palace there is law and order, in the forest it is the supernatural, and in Quince's cottage it is humor and jokes. The three settings of this play are a good to portray the life and the various layers of society:the Palace ruled by the logic of law, the forest mysterious and supernatural, and the common place Quince's cottage. • 35. A Midsummer Night's Dream Research Paper (with Cited) The play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare, is about four lovers and their "dreamlike" adventure through a fairy ruled forest. There are many different characters in this play and they each play their own individual role in how the play is performed and read. Three main characters that showed great characteristics are: Puck, Tom Bottom, and Helena. The play, "A Midsummer Nights Dream" by William Shakespeare, uses characters and their conflicts to give meaning to this piece of literature. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was written in the early part of William Shakespeare's life in 1596. It was written to be played at artistic carnivals and tried to please all parts of society; the carpenters to please all the galleries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends." Nick Bottom is another comical character that makes the audience laughs from his overconfidence in him. He is one of the central figures in the subplot of the production of the "Pyamus and Thisbe" story. He brings his comedy from his extraordinary belief in his own abilities. Bottom thinks he is perfect at everything he does, yet he is a horrible actor and frequently makes rhetorical and grammatical mistakes in his speech. His humor stems from the fact that he's not aware of how ridiculous he is. Titania falls madly in love with Bottom after she was anointed with a love potion and Bottom's head has been turned into that of an ass. He thinks nothing out of the ordinary about a fairy queen that has fallen in deeply in love with him. His inability to perceive the fact that his head had been transformed and a fairy queen has fallen in love with him parallels how absurd he is. Although Puck and Bottom may stand out as two of the main characters they aren't involved in the main conflict. Helena, who is desperately in love with Demetrius, may be the most drawn out character. Helena is he one lover who thinks more about the nature of love than the actual thing. She is extremely unsure about herself and thinks about her appearance a lot and ... He also takes off the head of the donkey and later then him and Titina officially become the king and the queen of all of the fairies. The main conflict between Titania and Oberon is part of the plot as it would drive the mix ups and confusions of the other characters in the play. She had different emotions throughout the play. Which means that without Titania, the fact of having Oberon's anger in the play drives the entire action of the play, and would be impossible to carry out the plot in the play. Titania is the beautiful Queen of the fairies and Bottom represents the crazy, foolish and mortal in the play. It seems impossible to imagine two figures less compatible with each other, if the magical Titania can fall in love with a donkey, then anything could happen at any given time in life. With love anything can happen, just like what happens with Titania and the different relationships of love she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. A Midsummer Night's Dream Research Paper Magic and mischief are no strange feat in the works of William Shakespeare, and nor are fairies. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare the fairies serve as the source for both magic and mischief. While the play itself focuses mainly on four lovers lost within the woods, the fairies play an integral part in advancing the plot. Oberon, Titania, and Puck serve as both instigators and observers of the madness between Helena, Hermia, Demetrius and Lysander. But are they merely a plot device utilized by Shakespeare when convenient? Or do the fairies of A Midsummer Night's Dream hold a deeper cultural significance than initially thought? Through this paper, I hope to further my understanding of why Shakespeare chose to include the fairies in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the forefront of the play are Demetrius, Lysander, Hermia, and Helena, but the plot of the play, and the focus of the subplot, hinges on three main fairs. On the fairies, Miller states that "not only are they obviously the most striking feature of the comedy; intellectually they are the most provocative, too." (Miller 254) The fairies' involvement in the play, and with the four main characters, begins with a quarrel between Titania and Oberon over an Indian changeling. When Oberon witnesses Helena's love for Demetrius, and his rejection of her, her said to Puck "anoint his eyes, but do it when the next thing he espies may be the lady. Thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments he hath on." (Act. 2 Scene. 2 Line. 269–272) Puck then goes on to give Bottom the head of a donkey and put a spell on Titania to make her fall for the beast. After the revelation that Puck had put a spell on the wrong Athenian, and a spell is put on Demetrius so he too is in love with Helena, Puck's mischieveous behavior leads to the central plot of the play. In act 2 scene 3 of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Puck asks Oberon "shall we their fond pageant see? Lord what fools these mortals be!" (Act. 3 Scene. 2 Line. 116–117) Puck allows the Athenians to quarrel over who truly loves whom for his own amusement. Puck goes on to say "then will two at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
