Comparison Of Christmas And Hanukkah
From December 1st to the 31st there are many holidays celebrated. Christmas and Hanukkah both
play huge roles in this season. They may have many differences, but they both make us come
together as a whole and make memories that last a lifetime. It's the most wonderful time of the year!
As many people sing throughout the season. All around the world there are many who look forward
to celebrating their religion. But do we know the true meaning of Hanukkah and Christmas?
Christmas is a christian holiday that celebrates the birth of jesus. Who they believe is the son of god.
God sent him to come to serve and teach about his father and his religion. However, Hanukkah
celebrates the eight candles that stand lit on the mendora for a whole eight days. Antiochus (a king)
tried to take over Israel and force them to practice his religion. He destroyed all buildings and items
that were to practice other religions. But a group of jewish soldiers fought back and won Israel.
When going through the buildings they were shocked to see the candles on the menora still lit, and
stayed lit for 8 days. They saw this as a sign of god. But, they do have things in common. Hanukkah
and Christmas involve gift giving and other unique rituals. Both bring families together, promote
goodwill, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hanukkah and Christmas are both well known for their decorations, but they do have very distinct
ways to display their religion. Hanukkah often uses blue and silver colors. There most common
decorations are the menorah and the star of David. One decoration that is not uncommon is a
chocolate gelt and dreidel. However, Christmas often is represented by red and green colors.
Decorations they include are green evergreen, fake snow, white colors, ornaments, tinsel, mistletoe.
But, probably the most famous decoration is a Christmas tree. With ornaments and a angle or a star
on top. One thing the holidays do have in common is they hang and string bright lights

There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily
about how they saw candy canes on the Wal–Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the
former group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24–hour holiday music train since the mid–
1990s. To the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than
ever this year.
"I have never seen a more successful, impactful and sustainable impact on ratings as all Christmas
music," said Dan Vallie, a consultant to New Jersey's WEZW–FM and other stations across the
country. This year, WEZW, also known as Easy 93.1, was the first radio station in the country to
start airing 24–hour holiday tunes. They kicked off their nonstop broadcasting two weeks before
Halloween. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also point out that "competition between broadcasters often leads to stations turning earlier
and earlier."
This year, Pandora is pushing over 35 holiday–themed channels, and Sirius XM boasts 8, with one
that is nonstop year–round. But the iHeartRadio Network has been plotting their attack all year.
President Darren Davis said their all–holiday preparation usually begins in August.
"It's about more than just the songs," said Davis. "When you walk into a Hallmark store around the
holidays, everything is Christmas – the carpet is Christmas, the window decorations are Christmas,
it smells like Christmas candles and cookies. That's the environment we try to create with our
Christmas radio station."
While most radio stations are racing to be the first, one UK station hopes to be the last. Starting
today, Birmingham's Free Radio 80s aims to set a new record as the first FM radio station to
broadcast nonstop holiday tunes for 33 days

Compare And Contrast Autumn And Winter
Both autumn and winter are special times of year.
Whether you call it autumn, fall, that one season after summer with the cool leaves, or anything
else, it has place in all our hearts. Winter may be disliked by some for the harsh weather and cold
atmosphere, but I love all winter has to offer.
I love late fall and early winter because of the holidays and the traditions they bring, the soft snow,
and winter break.
Holidays are times full of family, games, and celebration. They're designed to be fun and memorable
experiences to commemorate different concepts, and they certainly do it well.
October 31st is a time of the spooky and kooky, people of all ages decorating their homes, inside
and out. Anyone and everyone can decorate in any way they please. Whether cartoony, gory,
realistic or outlandish, there's a way to spice up your residence for everyone.
Pumpkin carving is long held practice, people once upon a time adorning gourds and turnips too.
With new technology, it's easy to utilize dry ice, projectors, and sound effects for maximum impact,
but it's always nice to return to simple homemade decorations.
When you think of Halloween, you probably think of trick or treating. Putting on a costume is a
thrill like no other! The classics will always have a special place in my heart, but there are recourses
to dress up as anything. Outlandish or understated, trick or treating holds a special place in my heart.

Analyzing James Miller's 'Acting Our Culture'
A picture says a thousand words. In "Acting Our Culture", a book edited by James miller, we get
this representation clearly from Norman Rockwell and John Holyfield in their Thanksgiving visual
representation paintings. Both artist provide us with their own interpretation and view of the
thanksgiving holiday depicting in both what they believe the holiday season is about. 3 main themes
in these pieces are family, color, and culture the root of both paintings, this being what ties as well
as separates them as works of art.
The first thing you will notice between the paintings are the family's presented. The presence of
their relation is evident due to a few factors. In Rockwell we get the differences in age from the little
kids present at the table to the middle aged couple on the left side of the photo (Rockwell), then in
Holyfield's we get the same view of age difference across the table representing the occasion to be a
gathering of family. They also share the same main meal that being the turkey also with vegetables
and other side plates. But once we look closer at the family a deeper level of contrast is revealed. If
you pay close attention to the painting the scene of family changes between both pieces. In

Christmas : The Greatest Festival Of The U. S. Festivals
Christmas is the greatest festival of the U.S. Festivals always bring happiness and preserve our
culture and tradition. There are several types of festivals celebrated in the U.S. Among them I like
Christmas. It celebrates the end of each calendar. It has been known as the birthday of God Jesus
Christ. It is a holy day of the Christian religion. It is very popular because we can celebrate it with
families, relatives, and friends. People are being very busy on working, they do not have enough
time to share love and affection with families. They wait for festivals to meet their families and
friends. Christmas is celebrated at end of every year. It is a festival of great delight, sharing, and
bliss. Three reasons I like Christmas are spending time with family, having time off from school and
work and receiving gifts.
Spending time with family is the most valuable time for everyone. When the festival comes, people
get together with the family and friends. Christmas is the biggest festival of the year people
celebrate it doing different activities. For instance, on this day, they decorate the pine tree and fur
with festival lights, bulbs, flowers, garlands and stars and sparkle lighting at home. They keep
different Santa's snowmen and coming from riding horse. Villages and cities are decorated with
colorful lights. Most of the time, snow covers the ground and we build many snowmen and reindeer
in front of the home. They busy on doing the firing and champing, shopping and visiting

decided to help students around her age who are food insecure. On May 12 through May 15
Wisniewski volunteered for Hand 2 Hand. Hand 2 Hand is a local organization started in Byron
Center by citizen, Jodi Joseph, in 2008. Joseph heard about the organization from Sherry Hondered
who started the whole program by providing meals to just a few food insecure kids in Jenison.
Joseph was inspired by Hondered and brought the idea back to Byron Center. On Friday, May 12,

Summer Break Definition
Winter break is a perfectly timed for students to enjoy the holidays, and take a much needed break
from school. This offers time to spend with family and relax without having to worry about their
studies. Due to the length, the break often leads to boredom near the end, and students can become
restless and in need of some excitement.
The holidays often start out with a bang, filled with family gatherings, and lot of gifts. The
excitement then seems to fade away until school goes back in session. Pole Position Raceway has
the ideal solution for breaking the winter boredom with action karting. This fast and exciting sport is

It's A Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown !
It's a Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown!
'A Charlie Brown Christmas' is one of many prime–time television specials based on the comic
strip; "Peanuts", by Charles M. Schulz. The animated short film's plot revolves around our young,
pessimistic protagonist, Charlie Brown. It's the Christmas season, and everyone in his town is in a
cheerful mood and preparing for the upcoming holiday. However, Charlie Brown doesn't feel the
same. He is unsure of what the true meaning of Christmas is, and nobody seems to have a clear
answer set out for him. His feelings about the holiday remain bleak, until his friend, Lucy, suggests
that he should try directing their neighborhood Christmas play.
This particular special has obtained phenomenal praise from audiences and critics alike. It's even the
second longest–running Christmas special of all time. Although, does this film really deserve the
attention and recognition it gets?
First of all, the time period and circumstances in the film industry is a key factor as to how this
special gained such a following. At the time, the production had an awfully rocky start. This was
because many aspects of the special ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

characters aren't entirely perfect, though, they have flaws, and some of the situations they endure

First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper
The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of November, is called
Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. It has come to be
known as the busiest shopping day of the year.
The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black Friday
appeared for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of workers to call–in sick
after thanksgiving, in order to earn a four–day weekend. After approximately 10 years, the term has
come to be used by the Philadelphia police to describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers
and traffic jams on the day after Thanksgiving.
As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season,
since Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In the United States of America, in the
bigger cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are parades where people gather to see the balloons,
performances and marching bands. These parades are sponsored by important department stores, the
most known being the Macy's Parade, which happens in New York City, becoming a symbol of the
holiday. The businesses were trying to use it, in the early 20th century as a big advertisement push,
eventually an unwritten rule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would prepare extensive lists with huge discounts and make them public in order to allow the
individuals to make plans and set aside a budget. Another phenomenon linked with this event is
Cyber Monday, which has been invented in 2005 to describe the bargains that were found on online
websites after Black Friday and Thanksgiving. One more day has come to be known as an online
shopping day, namely Singles Day, promoted by the huge Chinese online retailer Alibaba, which, in
2015, became the biggest online shopping day in history, Chinese consumers spending

Personal Narrative: The Months Of Thanksgiving And Christmas
The months of Thanksgiving and Christmas are suppose to be our favorite times of the year. The
things that I have experienced made me think otherwise. These were the two years that I have lost a
loved one. In 2013 it was my brother, and in 2015 it was my grandfather. No one would have ever
thought that something like this would happen. The two coldest winters brought me unexpected
turns that made me prepare for the worst. My brother, Ladarius Martin, was killed in a car accident.
He was 19 and had just graduated from high school. As a brother, he was annoying, but he was
always that person that I could count on. He would pick me up from school, practice, play
basketball, and was always there for me. He was that one person that everyone adored.

Growing Up To Christmas Research Paper
It is that time of year again –– Advent! Flocking to the stores to buy gifts; shopping with massive
discounts; eagerly awaiting break from school; it is all part of the Christmas experience. Should it
be, though? If you are of the Christian faith, the answer is absolutely not. Christmas is all about
celebrating the coming of Christ, and the time leading up to it –– Advent–– should be dedicated to
preparing our hearts for Him. If you really think about it, chalking Christmas up to gifts is one of the
greatest tragedy of our era. From the time God made a covenant with Isaac and the Israelites to the
time of Jesus' birth, God spoke through prophets to foretell the coming of the Messiah who would
save all of humanity from its sins. Through this

Persuasive Essay On Abolish Holidays
Every year as Halloween comes to an end, the Christmas decorations start to appear in the stores,
the commercials appear on the television, and the hussle and bussle slowly begins to happen. The
same thing happens with Easter. As Valentine's Day comes to a close the Easter candy comes out,
the decorations come out, and the Spring clothing ads appear. What really is all of this stuff besides
just stuff? Does any of it mean anything? Stores are not bringing out nativity scenes and crucifixes;
they are bringing out candies, christmas trees, Santas, easter eggs, and Easter Bunnies. These are all
materialistic items. The holidays are supposed to reflect much more than any materialistic item
could ever reflect. They are both supposed to be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is truly disappointing for many reasons. People are not celebrating these holidays for what they
are to be celebrated for. Today, they have become all about the gifts, decorations, and food. Today,
kids will throw a fit because they did not get the gifts that they wanted. When in reality these
holidays are not even supposed to be about the gifts. On the other hand, there are 17.4 million
families that struggle to put food on the table and pay the bills (Malter). These parents do not want
their children to feel left out next to the other kids whose parents make a lot of money. Parents who
struggle have to find ways to make more money so their children can celebrate the holidays with
gifts just like the rest of society. This is unfair to the 14% of families who feel they have to get their
children gifts for these holidays because that is what is expected (Malter). If the holidays were
celebrated the way they are supposed to be, which is just with the company of family and friends,
these families would not have to worry about how they are going to make their children "happy" on
Christmas or Easter. For the families that do not have to worry about money but have the children
that are greedy and ungrateful for their gifts, they would not have to worry about making their
children "happy"

Holiday Shopping Madness Christmas lights, inflatable snowmen, reindeer with red noses, fake

Halloween was just days ago. How have haunted houses turned to gingerbread so fast, and what
happened to Thanksgiving? Holiday decorations, especially those pertaining to Christmas go up so
fast in stores and in neighborhoods sometimes as soon as a couple days after Halloween. This eye–
opening phenomenon shows just how much holidays in the United States are being used as times of
the year to make profits for businesses. Decorations for end of the year holidays can be seen in some
stores as early as September, starting with Halloween and gradually transitioning to Thanksgiving,
and then finally Christmas. The problem is that American businesses exploit holidays for profit at
the cost and expense of the individual and the individual's family. Fake and consumer centred
holidays have increased in present times leading to a rise in materialism. While this may be good for
businesses and shareholders it is extremely detrimental to society and the planet. If holidays are to
be sustainable and joyful in the future then people need to move away from consumerism holidays
and move towards celebrating these important dates with the important people in their lives. Overall

Addiction To Drug And Drug Addiction During The Holidays
For many people the holiday season is a time of celebration. However people who are struggling
with an addiction to drug or alcohol often find that the holidays are a depressing time that's filled
with denial and secrecy. People with an addiction have trouble often have trouble enjoying
themselves when the holidays arrive and they feel ashamed of their addiction so they work to hide it
from their family and friends. It's not a very happy holiday season.
It tends to be difficult for people to admit that they have a problem. Even when someone realizes
that they struggle with addiction, it can be overwhelming and frightening to take the step necessary
to make a change and overcome the addiction. As a result, many people simply maintain the status
quo, even if it makes them and their loved ones unhappy.
For people who are ready to take the next step and move forward with getting treatment for their
addiction, it can be tempting to wait until after the holidays to begin treatment. Many people tell
themselves that the holidays are meant to be fun and spend with loved ones at home, not at a drug
and alcohol treatment center. Besides, they tell themselves that going to rehab can be their News
Year's resolution after the holidays. However, the team at HARP can think of many reasons why
people should actually consider going to rehab around or during the holidays.

Christmas Gifts: The Salvation Army And The Salvation Army
Throughout time, our society has shifted as well as the whole idea of Christmas spirit. Christmas is
supposed to be a time of joy, love, and selflessness. Giving gifts is a holiday tradition to show love
for others and express the good that people have in their hearts. This may be how things are
supposed to be, but instead many people find joy in the gifts they receive, rather than in the ones
they give. What has not changed, though, is the people who continue to support William Booth,

The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again
The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you
should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting.
Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good
morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if
you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts
what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that
person Happy Holidays?
The only time that I think "Happy Holidays" is acceptable is when you do not know the person well
enough to know what holidays they celebrate.
People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you
offend anyway.
I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I
ever received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person
from India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to
India and when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift.
I was blown a way that someone who doesn't even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of
another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. I asked him why and he said that he knows I
celebrate Christmas and he wanted my celebration to be special. He went on to say that wishing you

Holiday Bargaite: Why Holidays Shoppers Procrastinate
At one point or another, almost every American over the age of 21 has found themselves a few days
away from the Christmas holidays with a cumbersome shopping list still in their pockets. Whether
the list included gifts or simply holiday meal items is irrelevant. The fact they only had a few days
of shopping before it was too late was the problems at hand.
Why Holidays Shoppers Procrastinate
Remarkably, many individuals will wait until the last minute to complete the their holiday shopping
on a annual basis as though it's a tradition. Based on information provided by the publication
Psychology Today several years back, as many as 20% of the shoppers who waited until the end
claimed to chronic procrastinators, meaning they were usually late and/or rushed with anything they
attempted to do. As far as why other Americans wait so long before pulling the trigger, here is some
ideas to consider.
1. Waiting for Bargains – Some shoppers simply choose to wait until a couple of days before
Christmas to buys gifts in hopes that stores will come out with holiday clearance prices right before
the day after Christmas shopping begins.
2. Too Busy to Focus – Some folks get so busy with year–end business issues and kids home for the

The Importance Of Festivals And Holidays On Pre Colonial...
"Another area of Nigerian life that is practically unequalled by any other country's is in the way
festivals are celebrated" (Obi 136). Festivals and holidays have made a perpetual impact on Pre–
colonial and Post–colonial Igbo culture. As time has passed over the years, additional holidays of
the Igbo culture are celebrated and traditional aspects of festival celebration have been modernized.
Furthermore, some holiday and festival celebrations have altered based on its secular and religious
aspects. During Pre–colonial Igbo culture, the foundations of festival and holiday celebration were
established with one very special festival called the "New Yam Festival" being the most important
celebrations in Igboland. According to "Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries", the
"New Yam festival is celebrated between August and October in order of thanking the gods for a
good harvest and provides opportunity for a social gathering of tribes (Heritage and Culture).
Religion is exceedingly important to the Igbo's and the yam crop also known as the "king crop"
measured wealth in ancient Igbo society which is why the festival is highly significant. Based on the
book "Things Fall Apart" the most important god which tied to the festival was "Ani, the earth
goddess and the source of all fertility" (Achebe 36). If honor was not given to Ani, destruction from

How Christmas Has Changed Over Time
History has affected many things over the years. However, people and places aren't the only things
that were affected by our history, but the way we celebrate Christmas has been changed too.
Although Christmas is still a very traditional holiday, the introduction of new and more modern
things has shaped the way we celebrate this incredible holiday today. How we celebrate Christmas
has changed a lot due to the growth of other religions, the invention of technology, and the growth
of conflicts in certain areas. First, as more and more religions have started and increased in
popularity, Christmas has adjusted. However, none of the new religions have ever wanted to stop
Christmas. In 'Christmas Is Not Just For Christians' by Siddique, A Hindu, named Ramalingam

that I know actually celebrate Christmas (Siddique 1)." Instead, they volunteer to work at the

Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards
Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as
recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning
convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of
dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms
which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation.
Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor
and management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p.
202) proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors
independence and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements.
Controversy threatens the success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency
cost hence minimizing the expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving
the interest of the shareholders.
Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims,
fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted
accounting practices.
How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor's must inform their clients about their roles and the
responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. When the

Resolving Small Business Disputes in New York
New York is home to thousands of business. Some are international corporations, others are local. In
New York, there are businesses in every industry, and, and some point, these businesses will face
disputes. For small businesses in New York particular, a business dispute can mean the end of the
life of the company, due to its tremendous expense and its potential to damage a business' reputation
in the community. Fortunately, business disputes in small businesses do not always result in an
expensive lawsuit, and many are resolved without court assistance at all.
Every business, even the smallest ones, needs a plan in place for handling disputes. It is best for the
business owners and managers to create such a plan when there are no active conflicts within the
company. Each business should have a method for resolving customer complaints, disagreements
between employees, conflict with other companies, and so on. A business attorney is an excellent
resource for putting these plans into place. When conflict does arise, each party to the dispute will
understand how it will be resolved, providing a more efficient method of finalizing a disagreement.
It is essential to handle business disputes as soon as possible before they cause unnecessary
animosity and stress within the business. Businesses may

The Controversy Of Celebrating Christmas
Holidays are overrated. They are days made up by large retailers to prompt you to spend more
money on items that you don't need. Think about it, how much money have you spent on all the
decorations and gifts in your lifetime? If all the holidays ceased to exist, people wouldn't have to
fret about working overtime just to save up for all of the Christmas gifts or if they have enough
money to buy dye for the eggs during Easter (Participial Phrase). Who needs a nine foot tall pine
tree in their living room? What family needs to eat a whole turkey in the matter of hours?
(Rhetorical Question) Celebrating the new year is pointless, the only thing that changes is the date,
everything else remains the same. Many years ago holidays had some sort of ... Show more content

The stress of determining what to dress up as for Halloween, when you could just look like yourself
and not have to put more effort into the way that you look for one night. The stress of buying and

stay with you for a period of time. Or the stress of trying to determine how in the world you are
going to have enough money to purchase all of the gifts for your loved ones, causing you to work
more, decreasing your time to buy these gifts, all leading to even more stress. There is enough stress
in a person's life on a normal day. Adding all of the stress of these pointless holidays can be
eliminated if the holidays are eradicated. Without holidays we would have more days to work, less
family bonding and five day straight work weeks, every week of the year. What more could a person
ask for? Stress, made up characters, lost meanings, excessive spending, are all valid reasons why
holidays should be eliminated from the calendar and from our lives (Asyndeton). With all of the
issues created from these holidays, it's better to cut our ties to them and leave them in the

Argumentative Essay About Break Up
Great, the break–up sucks in and of itself. The extra kick in the nuts is that it is during the holidays.
Holidays are times where people (even men) are usually more emotionally engaged. This is not
welcome at a time where a guy is already emotionally and psychologically beat up. The media and
society put forth the image that everyone else is having a good time and enjoying the season. This
then makes your current situation seem all the more painful in comparison. It is normal to miss an
ex–girlfriend and feel a void by not having a partner during this time. But there are tools to cope
with it. Check em out. Why during the holidays? You may have heard about a somewhat recent
study providing evidence that there is a huge spike in break–ups ... Show more content on

There is nothing that you can do to meet the expectations created by the fictitious "happily ever
after" of Christmas & New Year or the B.S. romanticism of Valentines Day. So inevitably when life
is not like the movies, the woman blames you and it is all your fault. This ridiculous perspective can
cause a girl to overreact and break–up with her boyfriend. Tips to survive a holiday break–up So
clearly there are a whole bunch of reasons for holiday break–ups. To counter the distress of this
situation, there are a number of things to keep in mind. Understanding these perspectives and
employing these strategies can save you a whole lot of grief. With all of the drama and stress that
the holidays bring, there is an upside. There is a whole lot to do to keep you busy. It is hard to not
run into a holiday party... even a one sponsored by your employer or school. It doesn't matter if
people are going to ask about your ex–girlfriend when you get there, at least there are other
immediate environmental distractions that can keep your mind off of that topic (we will discuss
tricks for this scenario below). And let's be honest. It ain't like you won't be thinking of her when
you are home alone, so fearing talking about her is no excuse to miss the party. Take advantage of
the distractions presented during the

Political Correctness In America
Merry Christmas! I am sorry if that offended you, perhaps the term Happy Holidays is more
soothing to you. There exists a possibility that even Happy Holidays is offensive to you and that you
simply do not celebrate anything in December. Further still, you could be offended by the
assumption I made that you celebrated any sort of religious or government mandated holiday at all.
Political correctness in America is something we have all experienced whether you been offended
by something or have been offensive to someone else. The term political correctness can be
precarious because I believe it to be a form of censorship and that is can be used as shackle for
artistic creativity and how it divides society as a whole. I want to prove that political correctness is a
dangerous pandemic in America. In my opinion, political correctness could be seen as the antithesis
of the concepts of freedom of speech and freedom of expression. It allows people to simply label
anything that offends them or any subject they disagree upon as being politically incorrect. The
beginning of this essay, Merry Christmas, is still a controversial subject ... Show more content on

different from us for fear of offending them. This typically puts people into groups that are in
agreement with most things creates sort of a hive mind in my opinion. You have a group of people
that share the same basic ideas and even when they do not they still naturally follow along. If people
were to actually form their own ideas and not be afraid to share them I believe that society as a
whole could benefit. People need to stop being so offended by everything that see and hear. They
need to understand that others will have differing opinions and just accept it and move on or debate

Damaged Family And Broken Family : Broken Home
Damaged Family, Broken Home
Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are part of
the most well known holidays in the United States. During the time of holidays loved ones
congregate together to enjoy each other's company, catch up with others lifes and simply create
memories that will last forever. A family with a bond will join each other to spend time with one
another. A family with good communication will love to hear about each other in every possibility
and even more in the free time of the holidays. A family with love for one another will have a feast,
no matter if it holds the most food in the world or barely any food, and will show how much they
appreciate one another. A well operated family creates countless number of memories during the
holiday season that shape their future. An unknown author once said "We should live every day like
it is a holiday, being thankful and spending time with family, and looking hopefully to the future."
The holidays are talked about as a time full of joy, laughter, love and spending time with loved ones
but the dark side of the holidays is never mentioned. Not all families share a bond with each other.
Not all families show each other appreciation. Not all families have love among them. A damaged
family does not celebrate the holidays as they are described. A damaged family continues living the
holidays as any other day. A damaged family will even not speak to one another on special

Santo Domingo Research Paper
Staycation or vacation? These two types of past times for the holidays always have many people
playing this question. They weigh out the pro and cons to each one and try to figure out which
would befit their family the best. For people who live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic this
question always arises in different families because of the different situations Christmas brings to
this capital. People who live in Santo Domingo have to take into consideration if they stay the
streets will turn empty, they can count on good food for the holidays and the cost benefit. However,
they also have to take into consideration that just two hours away lies beautiful beaches the they
could also spend the holiday at though the beach would have many people and empty the money for
one's pocket. Even though many people vacation away from the city, a staycation in Santo Domingo
provides a smarter option for the holidays. To begin with, the obvious advantage shows up in the
money saved in a staycation. If a family stays at their house they save much money on housing

A perfect halloween It was a perfect Halloween night. There was a full harvest moon, the wind was
howling, the neighborhood was quiet; even though kids were trick–or–treating. My friends and I
were waiting to go outside. Andrew, a blue eyed nerd, was already excited to go outside. Ashley,
Alex and I were calm, but anxious. We all agreed to go out when it got darker. We were all dressed
up as zombies, the ones that ate guts and such. "Lets go! Can we please start and get some candy
now!!" Yells Andrew. We all gear up for the night. We say good–byes to our parents and head off
into the darkness. Our first couple of houses were great! We each got handfuls of delicious candy!

It was dark. It was drafty. It was dead. We look around to find a light switch, only to find 2 candles
and 1 match. The soft glow of the candles illuminates the room. We see cob webs in the corners,
dust on the tables, and sheets on furniture. In another room we see nothing but piles of broken
cement from the slowly cracking ceilings, decaying walls, and broken glass from windows. A stray
black cat hisses and scurries past our feet into the dark. As we start touring the house, we start
hearing moans and groans, then voices from upstairs. All of a sudden our candles blow out and we
all scream. We all run in different directions, trying to find a way out. It felt like a maze, we were
the dumb rats trying to find that one piece of cheese. One by one, I hear screams of my friends. I
start running faster and faster, till my hear explodes trying to find the front door. Scared, and
petrified I feel a cold bloody hand pull me back into the darkness. –––––––––––––––––––––––

Starbucks 's Special Design Red Cup
Since 1977, Starbucks has introduced its special design red cup, as a gesture to welcome the
Christmas's Holiday. This event has been widely participated and engaged by the public because
people love the variety of designs and patterns on the Red Cup. They even take picture with the cup
to express their supports on social media. According to Starbucks, the company proudly announces
that a picture of their holiday cup gets posted on Instagram every 14 seconds, within the first 48
hours of the Red Cup's debut. However, the excitement and participation cools down in the holiday
season of 2016, after the Red Cup makes it entrance again. The public do not welcome the latest
designs of the cup, because of its simple looks. To further explain, Starbucks introduces the latest
cup covered in bright red to dark cranberry color, with no patterns, except the company's logo. After
the first impression, some people accuse the company becoming an anti–Christmas corporation.
They also points out that the Red Cup serves as a symbol of Satan's presence. As a result, many
express their displeasure on social media, along with the hashtag "boycottStarbucks." At the same
time, some consumers believe that others react excessively toward the Red Cup. In particular,
naming and belittling Starbucks for introducing a simplistic cup. Furthermore, they believe the
boycott's idea is ridiculous because Starbuck's cup does not harm anyone, so one should not take

Wine For Thanksgiving
# The Ideal Wine For Thanksgiving
Rushing to find the ideal wine for your Thanksgiving dinner? Not sure which one pairs best? Don't
hesitate. You'll have time to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving parade and enjoy dinner with your
loved ones.
What confuses most people in the selection of wines is that they don't draw a line between these two
categories:
1. Wines that pair well for cooking the turkey.
2. Wines that pair well for Thanksgiving dinner.
Still not sure what we mean? Let us simplify.
## Wines That Pair Well For Cooking The Turkey
Cooking with wine is a common choice for several meals. Turkey falls into the category of meals
that cooked with wine opens up new flavors. Still, not every wine should be used for cooking.
In this camp, red wines with high acidity and fruitful flavors work well. Zinfandel wines from Napa
Valley or Chile. Rioja wines from Spain are also a great choice. ... Show more content on

A red wine could be a logical choice if it is recommended for cooking. That's not the case. Red
wines are not as flexible in matching with the different meals a Thanksgiving dinner might have:
ham, gravy, potatoes, cornbread, pumpkin pie, cranberry, etc.
White wine wins over the red wine. As we stated before, red wine doesn't match well with the whole
Thanksgiving dinner experience. White wine allows the pallad to cleanse and taste every plate
without the interference of other flavors. The turkey cooked with the red wine also won't step in
with the white wine. The red wine loses moistens the turkey and elevates the taste. White wine like
Rieslings or Sauvignon Blanc works in these situations. When there is diversity in the meal course,
white wine is best.

4.3 Christmas Resists the Christmas Creep
The ritual situations that play a role in this case on one of the most socially celebrated holidays is
called Christmas. Ritual situation is a consumer behavior term that describes a consumer's shopping
pattern. This traditional Christmas holiday season is a major one for retailers because consumers
make a lot of purchases and retailers increase their sales. What motivates the consumer is the
stimulus that activates the what, when, and where of how a consumer purchases merchandise.
Christmas Creep is a marketing strategy in which wholesalers and retailers manipulate consumers to

Target is using a multi–channel marketing strategy to attract consumers who choose to do their
Christmas shopping early. Some of the multi–marketing strategies that Target uses are by stocking
and displaying some Christmas merchandise in the store before the holiday season even begins.
Also, by creating an atmosphere of using different displays and creating a certain mood of happiness
during the Christmas season. Target seeks an emotional appeal to the customers. They start
advertising Christmas merchandise by sending out emails and direct mailings, offering merchandise
for sale to only customers who have certain preferences about shopping early before the holiday
begins.
By participating in Christmas Creep, the marketers serve as the problem–solver to the consumer
problem by making merchandise available through the store and e–commerce to satisfy the
consumers' needs and want to buy goods early. During the holiday season, consumers normally
purchase gifts for family and friends. Since not all consumers purchase their items within the
holiday season, marketers use the Christmas Creep to get early–bird sales an early start to ensure
that the maximum amounts of customers are buying

Thanksgiving Compare And Contrast
The two biggest holidays celebrated worldwide are celebrated in different months and on different
days; why, because they are different. In the eyes of society Christmas and Thanksgiving are very
different. Over the years, Christmas has changed slightly, it has become more family oriented and
less religious, making it more like Thanksgiving. A lot of the times the word, 'Christ' is being
removed from the word Christmas, resulting in 'Xmas.' Somehow, the society was able to change
the word of the holiday, but was unable to change the meaning and purpose. The meaning and
purpose of the holiday closely relates to Thanksgiving. Christmas and Thanksgiving are not
commonly linked together, but in many ways they are very similar and should be looked at as one
big dysfunctional family holiday, instead of two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Christmas, is a holiday where a society gives thanks for what we have and what we don't have,

How Holidays Affects Consumer Culture
Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all
began eludes many people and very few studies have been completed on it. Even though some say
that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly affect
our market, I have found that people's values, expectations and rituals related to holidays can cause
an excessive amount of spending among our society. Most people are unaware that over the
centuries holidays have become such a profitable time of year for industries that they now starting to
promote gift ideas on an average of a month and a half ahead of actual holiday dates to meet
consumer demands. Religions influences on consumer's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In view of the fact that spirituality was very important to people in earlier days, merchant stands
soon started to be seen in the churches court yards due to the vast numbers of people who attended
worships services on a daily basis. Merchants and traders soon became a familiar figure around
churches especially during the holiday season when services were held more regularly and the
turnouts were larger which usually meant they had a better chance for a sale. The merchants offered
various products such as produce, meat, fabric, toys, and home made jewelry for all to see. In the
picture above a Melaka Christian churchyard is filled with merchants trying to sell their products.
Religious beliefs soon formed new values as the importance of gift giving became a 'tradition'
among religions. In most religions helping others who could not help themselves was already a
steadfast belief. As people's values of wanting to help and give to others started to intertwine with
the calendar holidays many people started to look for newer and better gift ideas for their loved ones
and soon strangers as well. Christian's predominantly could be found buying minuscule little gift
items, such as notebook paper, pencils, and ribbons, for the homeless children, their families and the
poorer community that could not provide for themselves during the holiday seasons. Along with
people's changing values of the holidays the public was now attending

Amel Saleh Rhetorical Analysis
Amel Saleh's argument that the holiday season is too materialistic, is a well defended statement
because she appeals to all three rhetoric appeals, and uses solid evidence to defend her position. Her

"Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world's population, we consume 40
percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands
and obtains 70 new toys a year. " This is an example of the author using logos, since America

This shows who the audience is, the author says, "Are we raising our kids...", which shows that she's
talking directly to parents. In the essay, it states, " When those teenagers become adults they will
expect to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like
narcissism, separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder." The author uses pathos here,
because parents naturally care about their child's well being. Parents never want to be the cause of
their child's problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also
the Ethos of the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche
works on individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on
children. The author counters her argument with, " Now, i'm not saying to refrain from buying gifts
for your loved ones... Just don't overindulge and do try to make them meaningful.". This shows how
the author understands that gift giving isn't a bad thing, but individuals should do it in moderation,
and not forget the true meaning of the

Comparison Of Christmas And Hanukkah

  • 1. Comparison Of Christmas And Hanukkah From December 1st to the 31st there are many holidays celebrated. Christmas and Hanukkah both play huge roles in this season. They may have many differences, but they both make us come together as a whole and make memories that last a lifetime. It's the most wonderful time of the year! As many people sing throughout the season. All around the world there are many who look forward to celebrating their religion. But do we know the true meaning of Hanukkah and Christmas? Christmas is a christian holiday that celebrates the birth of jesus. Who they believe is the son of god. God sent him to come to serve and teach about his father and his religion. However, Hanukkah celebrates the eight candles that stand lit on the mendora for a whole eight days. Antiochus (a king) tried to take over Israel and force them to practice his religion. He destroyed all buildings and items that were to practice other religions. But a group of jewish soldiers fought back and won Israel. When going through the buildings they were shocked to see the candles on the menora still lit, and stayed lit for 8 days. They saw this as a sign of god. But, they do have things in common. Hanukkah and Christmas involve gift giving and other unique rituals. Both bring families together, promote goodwill, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hanukkah and Christmas are both well known for their decorations, but they do have very distinct ways to display their religion. Hanukkah often uses blue and silver colors. There most common decorations are the menorah and the star of David. One decoration that is not uncommon is a chocolate gelt and dreidel. However, Christmas often is represented by red and green colors. Decorations they include are green evergreen, fake snow, white colors, ornaments, tinsel, mistletoe. But, probably the most famous decoration is a Christmas tree. With ornaments and a angle or a star on top. One thing the holidays do have in common is they hang and string bright lights ... • 2. Nt1310 Unit 2 Research Papers There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily about how they saw candy canes on the Wal–Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the former group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24–hour holiday music train since the mid– 1990s. To the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year. "I have never seen a more successful, impactful and sustainable impact on ratings as all Christmas music," said Dan Vallie, a consultant to New Jersey's WEZW–FM and other stations across the country. This year, WEZW, also known as Easy 93.1, was the first radio station in the country to start airing 24–hour holiday tunes. They kicked off their nonstop broadcasting two weeks before Halloween. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also point out that "competition between broadcasters often leads to stations turning earlier and earlier." This year, Pandora is pushing over 35 holiday–themed channels, and Sirius XM boasts 8, with one that is nonstop year–round. But the iHeartRadio Network has been plotting their attack all year. President Darren Davis said their all–holiday preparation usually begins in August. "It's about more than just the songs," said Davis. "When you walk into a Hallmark store around the holidays, everything is Christmas – the carpet is Christmas, the window decorations are Christmas, it smells like Christmas candles and cookies. That's the environment we try to create with our Christmas radio station." While most radio stations are racing to be the first, one UK station hopes to be the last. Starting today, Birmingham's Free Radio 80s aims to set a new record as the first FM radio station to broadcast nonstop holiday tunes for 33 days ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast Autumn And Winter Both autumn and winter are special times of year. Whether you call it autumn, fall, that one season after summer with the cool leaves, or anything else, it has place in all our hearts. Winter may be disliked by some for the harsh weather and cold atmosphere, but I love all winter has to offer. I love late fall and early winter because of the holidays and the traditions they bring, the soft snow, and winter break. Holidays are times full of family, games, and celebration. They're designed to be fun and memorable experiences to commemorate different concepts, and they certainly do it well. October 31st is a time of the spooky and kooky, people of all ages decorating their homes, inside and out. Anyone and everyone can decorate in any way they please. Whether cartoony, gory, realistic or outlandish, there's a way to spice up your residence for everyone. Pumpkin carving is long held practice, people once upon a time adorning gourds and turnips too. With new technology, it's easy to utilize dry ice, projectors, and sound effects for maximum impact, but it's always nice to return to simple homemade decorations. When you think of Halloween, you probably think of trick or treating. Putting on a costume is a thrill like no other! The classics will always have a special place in my heart, but there are recourses to dress up as anything. Outlandish or understated, trick or treating holds a special place in my heart. Christmas time for Christmas cheer! Hear those sleigh bells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analyzing James Miller's 'Acting Our Culture' A picture says a thousand words. In "Acting Our Culture", a book edited by James miller, we get this representation clearly from Norman Rockwell and John Holyfield in their Thanksgiving visual representation paintings. Both artist provide us with their own interpretation and view of the thanksgiving holiday depicting in both what they believe the holiday season is about. 3 main themes in these pieces are family, color, and culture the root of both paintings, this being what ties as well as separates them as works of art. The first thing you will notice between the paintings are the family's presented. The presence of their relation is evident due to a few factors. In Rockwell we get the differences in age from the little kids present at the table to the middle aged couple on the left side of the photo (Rockwell), then in Holyfield's we get the same view of age difference across the table representing the occasion to be a gathering of family. They also share the same main meal that being the turkey also with vegetables and other side plates. But once we look closer at the family a deeper level of contrast is revealed. If you pay close attention to the painting the scene of family changes between both pieces. In Rockwell's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Christmas : The Greatest Festival Of The U. S. Festivals Christmas is the greatest festival of the U.S. Festivals always bring happiness and preserve our culture and tradition. There are several types of festivals celebrated in the U.S. Among them I like Christmas. It celebrates the end of each calendar. It has been known as the birthday of God Jesus Christ. It is a holy day of the Christian religion. It is very popular because we can celebrate it with families, relatives, and friends. People are being very busy on working, they do not have enough time to share love and affection with families. They wait for festivals to meet their families and friends. Christmas is celebrated at end of every year. It is a festival of great delight, sharing, and bliss. Three reasons I like Christmas are spending time with family, having time off from school and work and receiving gifts. Spending time with family is the most valuable time for everyone. When the festival comes, people get together with the family and friends. Christmas is the biggest festival of the year people celebrate it doing different activities. For instance, on this day, they decorate the pine tree and fur with festival lights, bulbs, flowers, garlands and stars and sparkle lighting at home. They keep different Santa's snowmen and coming from riding horse. Villages and cities are decorated with colorful lights. Most of the time, snow covers the ground and we build many snowmen and reindeer in front of the home. They busy on doing the firing and champing, shopping and visiting ... Joseph heard about the organization from Sherry Hondered who started the whole program by providing meals to just a few food insecure kids in Jenison. This offers time to spend with family and relax without having to worry about their studies. • 8. It's A Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown ! It's a Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown! 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' is one of many prime–time television specials based on the comic strip; "Peanuts", by Charles M. Schulz. The animated short film's plot revolves around our young, pessimistic protagonist, Charlie Brown. It's the Christmas season, and everyone in his town is in a cheerful mood and preparing for the upcoming holiday. However, Charlie Brown doesn't feel the same. He is unsure of what the true meaning of Christmas is, and nobody seems to have a clear answer set out for him. His feelings about the holiday remain bleak, until his friend, Lucy, suggests that he should try directing their neighborhood Christmas play. This particular special has obtained phenomenal praise from audiences and critics alike. It's even the second longest–running Christmas special of all time. Although, does this film really deserve the attention and recognition it gets? First of all, the time period and circumstances in the film industry is a key factor as to how this special gained such a following. At the time, the production had an awfully rocky start. This was because many aspects of the special ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They're well rounded, quirky, and lovable. The characters aren't entirely perfect, though, they have flaws, and some of the situations they endure and how they cope with it can even be painfully relatable at times. The most notable being Charlie Brown himself. A lot of bad things happen to him on occasions, and he always finds himself feeling gloomy about it. He's basically cursed with bad luck. • 9. First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of November, is called Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. It has come to be known as the busiest shopping day of the year. The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black Friday appeared for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of workers to call–in sick after thanksgiving, in order to earn a four–day weekend. After approximately 10 years, the term has come to be used by the Philadelphia police to describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers and traffic jams on the day after Thanksgiving. As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season, since Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In the United States of America, in the bigger cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are parades where people gather to see the balloons, performances and marching bands. These parades are sponsored by important department stores, the most known being the Macy's Parade, which happens in New York City, becoming a symbol of the holiday. • 11. Growing Up To Christmas Research Paper It is that time of year again –– Advent! Flocking to the stores to buy gifts; shopping with massive discounts; eagerly awaiting break from school; it is all part of the Christmas experience. Should it be, though? If you are of the Christian faith, the answer is absolutely not. Christmas is all about celebrating the coming of Christ, and the time leading up to it –– Advent–– should be dedicated to preparing our hearts for Him. If you really think about it, chalking Christmas up to gifts is one of the greatest tragedy of our era. From the time God made a covenant with Isaac and the Israelites to the time of Jesus' birth, God spoke through prophets to foretell the coming of the Messiah who would save all of humanity from its sins. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Abolish Holidays Every year as Halloween comes to an end, the Christmas decorations start to appear in the stores, the commercials appear on the television, and the hussle and bussle slowly begins to happen. The same thing happens with Easter. As Valentine's Day comes to a close the Easter candy comes out, the decorations come out, and the Spring clothing ads appear. What really is all of this stuff besides just stuff? Does any of it mean anything? Stores are not bringing out nativity scenes and crucifixes; they are bringing out candies, christmas trees, Santas, easter eggs, and Easter Bunnies. These are all materialistic items. The holidays are supposed to reflect much more than any materialistic item could ever reflect. They are both supposed to be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is truly disappointing for many reasons. People are not celebrating these holidays for what they are to be celebrated for. Today, they have become all about the gifts, decorations, and food. Today, kids will throw a fit because they did not get the gifts that they wanted. When in reality these holidays are not even supposed to be about the gifts. On the other hand, there are 17.4 million families that struggle to put food on the table and pay the bills (Malter). These parents do not want their children to feel left out next to the other kids whose parents make a lot of money. Parents who struggle have to find ways to make more money so their children can celebrate the holidays with gifts just like the rest of society. This is unfair to the 14% of families who feel they have to get their children gifts for these holidays because that is what is expected (Malter). If the holidays were celebrated the way they are supposed to be, which is just with the company of family and friends, these families would not have to worry about how they are going to make their children "happy" on Christmas or Easter. • 14. British Literature : Holiday Shopping Madness Essay Max Sawyer 4 December 2016 British Literature Period 1 Holiday Shopping Madness Christmas lights, inflatable snowmen, reindeer with red noses, fake snowflakes, and decorated coffee cups, it must be the winter holidays and the new year! But wait, Halloween was just days ago. How have haunted houses turned to gingerbread so fast, and what happened to Thanksgiving? Holiday decorations, especially those pertaining to Christmas go up so fast in stores and in neighborhoods sometimes as soon as a couple days after Halloween. This eye– opening phenomenon shows just how much holidays in the United States are being used as times of the year to make profits for businesses. Decorations for end of the year holidays can be seen in some stores as early as September, starting with Halloween and gradually transitioning to Thanksgiving, and then finally Christmas. The problem is that American businesses exploit holidays for profit at the cost and expense of the individual and the individual's family. Fake and consumer centred holidays have increased in present times leading to a rise in materialism. While this may be good for businesses and shareholders it is extremely detrimental to society and the planet. If holidays are to be sustainable and joyful in the future then people need to move away from consumerism holidays and move towards celebrating these important dates with the important people in their lives. • 15. Addiction To Drug And Drug Addiction During The Holidays For many people the holiday season is a time of celebration. However people who are struggling with an addiction to drug or alcohol often find that the holidays are a depressing time that's filled with denial and secrecy. People with an addiction have trouble often have trouble enjoying themselves when the holidays arrive and they feel ashamed of their addiction so they work to hide it from their family and friends. It's not a very happy holiday season. It tends to be difficult for people to admit that they have a problem. Even when someone realizes that they struggle with addiction, it can be overwhelming and frightening to take the step necessary to make a change and overcome the addiction. As a result, many people simply maintain the status quo, even if it makes them and their loved ones unhappy. For people who are ready to take the next step and move forward with getting treatment for their addiction, it can be tempting to wait until after the holidays to begin treatment. Many people tell themselves that the holidays are meant to be fun and spend with loved ones at home, not at a drug and alcohol treatment center. Besides, they tell themselves that going to rehab can be their News Year's resolution after the holidays. However, the team at HARP can think of many reasons why people should actually consider going to rehab around or during the holidays. This may be how things are supposed to be, but instead many people find joy in the gifts they receive, rather than in the ones they give. What has not changed, though, is the people who continue to support William Booth, "William Booth embarked upon his ministerial career in 1852," he alone was the very beginning of the Salvation Army and what it is today. • 17. The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting. Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that person Happy Holidays? The only time that I think "Happy Holidays" is acceptable is when you do not know the person well enough to know what holidays they celebrate. People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you offend anyway. I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I ever received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person from India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to India and when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift. I was blown a way that someone who doesn't even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. • 18. Holiday Bargaite: Why Holidays Shoppers Procrastinate At one point or another, almost every American over the age of 21 has found themselves a few days away from the Christmas holidays with a cumbersome shopping list still in their pockets. Whether the list included gifts or simply holiday meal items is irrelevant. The fact they only had a few days of shopping before it was too late was the problems at hand. Why Holidays Shoppers Procrastinate Remarkably, many individuals will wait until the last minute to complete the their holiday shopping on a annual basis as though it's a tradition. Based on information provided by the publication Psychology Today several years back, as many as 20% of the shoppers who waited until the end claimed to chronic procrastinators, meaning they were usually late and/or rushed with anything they attempted to do.
