2. WHAT IS ADAPTABILITY?
• Adaptability (n): the quality of being able to adjust to new
conditions.
• In the context of a job market, adaptability is the flexibility in
handling change.
• Open to new ideas or changes.
• Must be able to work independently or in teams.
• Carry out tasks that are not intended for one person.
3. THE IMPORTANCE OF ADAPTABILITY
• Able to Adjust to Situations
• Knows what to do and how to do it.
• Effective In Solving Problems
• Know where to look for solutions in case of any problems
• Able to Negotiate
• Know which portfolio to take into consideration to make the negotiation that
works out best.
• Work Under Pressure
• Willingness to take up those additional roles.
4. BARRIERS TO ADAPTABILITY
• Habits
• Lack of proactive change often has to do with mindsets and
behaviors.
• We are wired to follow routines. When something is working for
us, we will continue to do it.
• Skills Deficiency
• When you don’t have the skills & neglect learning them
• Lack of the skills that is required for certain fields will be hard to
adapt in the job market.
5. BARRIERS TO ADAPTABILITY
• Fear
• Anxiety to adapt to unknown situation. Fear to change as
we are used to our old systems and common practices.
• Mental Scripts
• Creates what is known as ‘behavioural scripts’ which
basically are mental models that automate our actions.
6. HOW TO BE ADAPTABLE IN THE JOB MARKET?
• Be Open to Change
• Dare to change and accept the challenge
• Believe that change can make our lives better.
• Learn
• Learning many skills as possible.
• Know how to use the skills to adapt in the job market.
