2. Analysing music videos
• Analysing a few music videos has been a part of the research
process.
• We had to choose at least 2 songs, from the same genre as our
song, to analyse.
• We had to analyse the; camera movements, shots and angles,
editing transitions and special effects, mise-en-scene,
representation, dominant ideologies, genre, intertextuality, audience
reaction to the video, and whether Andrew Goodwin’s or Laura
Mulvey’s theory can be applied to the video?
• The purpose of doing this task was to get an idea of why certain
things are done in music videos and what these things are trying to
portray. I have taken away something from each video, that I
analysed, that I will try to incorporate into my video as portraying
the correct genre is very important.
3. Pharrell Williams – Happy
• Pharrell William’s music video for the song ‘Happy’ has
a clear purpose which is to spread happiness
everywhere.
• The genre of this song is dance which is the same
genre as our song so I made sure that I payed much
attention into what I thought made the video obvious
that it is dance.
• The kind of things I picked up on were the bright
colours, people dancing and people smiling mostly.
• These are the kind of things that could easily be
incorporated into our video so I will bare that in mind
when planning for our music video.
4. Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne – Real
Love
• As the artist of our chosen song is a girl we will
feature a girl in our music video to lip sing.
• After watching this music video I would like to
portray our artist in a similar way to Jess Glynne.
• Jess Glynne is seen to be really enjoying the music,
having fun, dressed nicely and hair done big and
bold.
• These kind of attributes are the kind of thing I
would like our artist to have as I think it would be
a good idea to portray our artist in a young and
fun way.
