2. Codes and Conventions of music
videos
– Codes and conventions help to portray the genre of music videos.
– The things that come under the codes and conventions are; camera shots,
camera movement, editing techniques, mise-en-scene and typography.
– The genre of our song and music video is dance.
– We will go through each of these things and decided how they can be used to
help represent our genre.
– We could use typography by having some of the lyrics pop up on the screen
when necessary in a strobe effect so the text is quick. This will match the
upbeat pace of the song and keep the audience keen to watch.

3. Binary Oppositions
– We have decided to film in two completely different locations; the beach and up
London.
– We thought that the beach shots would show a summery vibe which is a code
and convention for our genre, dance.
– The London shots will show more of a autumn/winter vibe and will help to
portray our artist as fun and out going.
– The use of these binary oppositions is to show that our artist can have fun
anywhere, even if its not summer and sunny.

4. Representation
– Representation is really important as we want to portray our artist as a fun, young, out-
going, classy, party girl.
– The locations that we choose will represent her as fun and outgoing.
– Her make up and costumes will represent her as daring, youthful and trendy.
– A member of our group has suggested our artist should be seen smoking colourful
cigarettes in the video. This kind of image shows that she is not a role model for younger
children. However, teenage girls and younger women could relate to her as they may like
to go out to party and are carefree.
– We think that showing a lot of colour running through our video is important as it is a
code and convention of dance music. The colourful cigarettes will be a contribution to
the constant colourful vibe in the video.
