1. Tumpong
The tumpong (also inci among the Maranao) is a type of Philippine bamboo fluteused by
the Maguindanaon, half the size of the largest bamboo flute, the palendag. A lip-
valley flute like the palendag, the tumpong makes a sound when players blow through a
bamboo reed placed on top of the instrument and the air stream produced is passed over an
airhole atop the instrument.
Gabbang
Gabbang, also known as Bamboo Xylophone, is a musical instrument made
ofbamboo widely used in the southern Philippines. A gabbang consists of a set of
trapezoidal bamboo bars of increasing length. The number of bars varies with the group
that made them. For Yakan, the number ranges from 3 to 9 bamboo bars but the
common agung gabbang has 5. For Tausug, the number ranges from 14 to 22 bamboo
bars but the common gabbang has 12. And forPalawan, the common gabbang has 5.

Sludoy
Classification: polychordal bamboo zither
Description: 5-stringed bamboo zither played by plucking the strings with the
fingers. The strings are raised with frets underneath. A ring of woven bamboo
strips is placed at the end of the bamboo node to keep the strings from further
stripping.
