2. The manatee is not hard
to spot with its grey to
brown skin and
weighing as much as
3000 pounds [but
usually 400 to 800
pounds]. The
manatees are one of
the few mammals that
live in the ocean.
3. The manatee can be
found in the
Atlantic ocean from
North Carolina to
Florida but are only
found in Florida in
the winter. They
live in shallow
costal waters, rivers
and bays. Manatees
cannot survive in
water that is too
cold.
4. Manatees are herbivores they feed off of sea
grasses but sometimes on accident they will eat
small invertebrates and fish. Because grasses
aren’t very nutritious they need to eat large
portions every day which explains why
manatees are considered fat.
The manatee has no predators [besides
humans] and have no prey because they are
herbivores.
5. Why the Manatee is
Endangered
The manatee is
endangered because
they have very good high
pitch hearing but can’t
hear low pitch sounds.
When boats go by the
manatee can not hear it
and they get scratched
by the propeller. Funds
are now going to finding
a way for boats to make
high pitch noises.
6. Manatees are like
deer, if deer did not
eat the grass in the
forests then the tallest
things in the forests
would be the grass so if
the manatee did not eat
60 different types of
sea grass fish may not
be able to swim not
allowing us to get the
fish we need.
