Currently training at the YMCA to overcome
knee surgery, Kristin Swanson-Mace hopes
to do 5K runs in the future.

Every year, Central Florida hosts dozens of
running events for runners of all levels.
Runners return year after year to participate
in the region's notable races, many of which
support charitable causes. Here are a few
upcoming runs in the the Orlando area.

The 2nd Annual For the Love of the Kids
Beat the Heat Run (July 4-7) is hosted by
Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang. The
virtual run serves to raise funds for a number
of charities benefitting children with serious
illness. During a virtual race, athletes run their
normal route and register it on the event’s
website.

The Brighten The Day 5k Run/Walk
(October 5, 2013) serves to raise cancer
awareness. Proceeds from this race benefit
Kids Beating Cancer and several other
charities devoted to cancer care and
research.

PurpleStride Central Florida 2013
(November 23, 2013) is a family friendly 5K
walk/run and activities event at Lake Eola
Park. Proceeds from PurpleStride benefit the
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The OUC Orlando Half Marathon and 5k
(December 7, 2013) is one of the premier
road races in the southeastern United States.
Hosting over 4,000 runners, the course goes
through downtown Orlando and along Lake
Eola.
