MARCELLUS, N.Y. – The eighth annual “Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s A Cure,” a certified
5K run/walk for ovarian cancer awareness and education, was held Monday, July 4, at
Marcellus Park. More than 500 people participated in the event this year, raising more than
$33,000. Proceeds will benefit ovarian cancer research, Upstate Cancer Center and GRACE’S,
a nonprofit organization offering support to women of Central New York who are affected by
gynecologic cancers.
Over the past eight years, the race has raised more than $290,000 for ovarian cancer
awareness and education.
Officially renamed the “Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s A Cure” in 2015, the race was started
in 2009 by the O’Hara family as a way to educate the community about ovarian cancer and to
raise awareness of the disease. The race is held in honor of their daughter/sister, Maureen, who
passed away from ovarian cancer one week after the 2012 race. Teal is the official color for
ovarian cancer awareness.
