Descriptive Essay On Art
So, what is art? Art is a arrangement of ideas that an artist makes or builds. There are various
variations for art that express their found creativity and inspiration to their artwork. Many people
make art to display their emotions and ideas towards life or to create something beautiful for
spectators. Art is a form of pleasure which appeases the audience to stay connected or feel fixated on
that certain artwork. Art is understood through focusing on its: function, visual form, content and
creativity. It should communicate with the viewers and help them imagine the concept of the
artwork. They should also qualify work that could be seen or physically felt, displaying their ideas
to be conveyed to the public. Imagery and symbolic meaning should be present with their art piece.
In addition, they must portray their creativity and imagination on a canvas or any work of art. In my
opinion, art is a representation of your thoughts and emotions portrayed to the audience in a
perceivable and communicative manner, helping the audience connect with the artwork.
The creativity of paintings helps the viewer understand the artist's emotions, as well as their art
piece. Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest painters of the twentieth century, helped me understand
more about art, as well as his point of view of his own style or method to display his emotions onto
a canvas. I learned that Picasso was the creator of modern arts through his imaginative and
innovative ideas found in

Richard Prince's Un Horse
In 1917, Marcel Duchamp submitted a mass produced porcelain urinal, dubbed a readymade, into an
art exhibition. Duchamp's actions signaled a proto– postmodern concept while modernism was still
prevailing the art world (Kuenzli, Naumann 65). Appropriation of mass produced products and
media continued with Pop art of the 1960's. In continuing this tradition, Richard Prince, whose
employment at Time Life provided him with cut up articles and advertisements, began to blatantly
appropriate photographs as his own (Spector 27). As postmodern works they "recognize that the
past, since it cannot really be destroyed...must be revisited: but with irony..." (Powel 80). This idea
is prevalent in Prince's Cowboy series. As a postmodern work, Prince's Untitled ... Show more

1, is an ektacolor print shot in the 1980's. The image of the cowboy is not original to Prince–it is a
blatant, appropriated image from an advertisement for Marlboro cigarettes. It is a photograph of a
photograph; Prince challenges authorship. What separates Prince's print and the original
advertisement is the removal of the advertising text and the cropping and enlarging of the image.
The cowboy is left alone, and the image becomes reminiscent of the American West paintings by
Frederic Remington. In using the photographic medium, Prince dismantles the authentic record of
photography by exposing the artifice already present in the advertisement: the myth of the cowboy.
The heroic myth of the cowboy came to shape through dime novels in the late 19th century and
continued through the western genre films of Hollywood. The mythological cowboy is white,
attractive, hyper–masculine, rugged and free. The reality of the cowboy is of Hispanic origin; he
was a young adult hired by cattle ranchers to drive longhorns from Texas to Wyoming or Montana;
he was "noisy, uncouth, loudmouth of low social rank" (Spector 284). Prince's omission of the text
of the advertisements begins the deconstruction of the myth. The image of the cowboy is freedom
and perfection; it speaks to one's desires–it is unattainable. In re–relating the image to the
advertisement, the reality of the cowboy is shattered because of the product advertised: cigarettes. A

John Whiteley's The Art Of Assemblages
Artist have been making assemblages for many years. Materials and found objects can be used by an
artist as vehicles of expression. The 1961 show "Art of Assemblages" responded to a time loaded
with cultural transitions. In chapter two, Whiteley talks about the artists in the show and how they
experimented with found pieces to give a new voice to seemingly unimportant and forgotten
material. Assemblage art reflects on the short–lived nature of old objects. The original intent of an
object is reimagined, given new purpose and contained layers of meaning. In chapter five, Whiteley
examines the Nouveaux Realistes and how they managed to bring art and life closer together. Their
art was comparable to dada and pop–art because of the use of mass–produced objects. Just like the
artists in the "Art of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using a more ideological approach rather than a stylistic one, these artists also managed to shine
a light on the wastefulness of western over–production. When I use discarded material, it makes me
think about the story of the previous owner's story but it also reminds me of the amount of waste
each of produce, especially in regards to clothing and fabric. In the section "Curiosities, Collections
and Memorabilia", Susan Steward examines the symbolic meaning and narrative of the souvenir and
how that relates to the found object. She explains how people authenticate meaning through
souvenirs. Souvenirs authenticate the past while the past gives authentication to an entire collection.
Souvenirs remind us of an experience we've had or allow us to imagine an experience we've never
had. Steward says that a souvenir functions

Why Has Raphael Found In Greek Art

Raphael created unique works of art during 1509–1511. In the Greek times, as I have read in my
chapter readings that there were different values placed on different factors. For example, I learned
of visual arts, I think the visual arts were used to depict certain feelings someone may have and that
is there way of formal expression, through visual paintings or sculptures. I learned from watching
the video that Raphael had created in arts of work in an intricate fashion. In some of the paintings
that were shown in the video depicts, a gentleman sitting off to the side by himself appearing to be
in either deep thought or just wants to isolate himself from the commotion that is

Found Object Art
Another technique frequently used by artists during postmodernism is "found object" art. Often,
these works of art are portrayed in the form of sculptures, but they can be in almost any form and on
any medium. This form of art consists of using random and everyday objects such as buttons, books,
light bulbs, broken computers, glass, fabrics, and many other sorts of items. For example, an artist
that works with found object art might take several kitchen utensils and place them together in a
certain way to make it look like an American Bald Eagle, or broken furniture to create a desolate
landscape. Found object art normally looks or actually is 3D, in a form where you can really feel it
and touch it. The display and arrangement of found objects ... Show more content on

Using thick, vintage books as his medium, he creates landscapes from the pages ever since 1999,
carving and shaping them with a circular saw. These intricate and unique sculptures are in high
demand and have sold for up to $20,000. "His work originates from the concept that one gains true
knowledge through erosion, not accretion. The work sparks such questions as: Is there too much
data? Are we drowning in a sea of answers? Why are we obsessed with knowing so many things?
Could you know more about the world by knowing less? Are we losing ourselves?" (Guy Laramée).
In his work, mountains, hills, or waves of disused and misused knowledge return to what they really
are – simple landscapes. They erode a bit more and they become smaller, not as intimidating, then
they flatten slowly and become not near as important. Piles of obsolete and heavy encyclopedias,
inevitably, do not need to say anything. They are used to show us, not tell us, of the secrets that lie
within the carven pages. Laramée's work is about making us feel alive, about transforming and
being given new opportunities in the world. It is about losing yourself in the landscapes that he
creates and finding yourself in the center of

Rajput Painting Analysis
Rajput Painting
Throughout the modules of this course we have learned about different elements of Eastern art that
give us the tools to try and understand the complexity that is Indian painting. Indian painting has
dated back many centuries, starting with paintings on pottery coming from the bronze age found in
Baluchistan 3 (17). Since this time until the 17th century (which is when the piece of art I chose),
Indian painting has progressed and developed immensely. I chose art from the Rajput era of
painting, coming from Rajasthan India. Even in the painting I chose for this assignment, you can see
the effects the culture from that time had on the Rajput style of art, in comparison with other periods
of Indian painting. Although there is little information on Rajput painting, the impact this period had
on Indian painting and its development after this period is immense.
Rajasthan India also known as "Abode of Princes" which contained many distinctive geographical
regions that held different Rajput states "each enjoying a nominal independence when they could
escape the attentions of their more powerful neighbors" 4 (131). These different states led to the
development of the different styles of Rajput art from the 17th century to the 19th century. Rajput
people lived in a culture that put a lot of emphasis on honour and bravery, their society also
expected these traits not only of men but of women as well 4 (131). The conditions that produced

Arts Education Collaboration
Throughout the years, hundreds of studies have been conducted regarding the correlation of art,
creativity and one's ability to learn. Although there is no direct scientific explanation for the results
of these studies, their numerous and repetitive findings give them credibility. Reading through
studies conducted by the Dana Foundation as well as the Arts Education Partnership one can find
correlations between an arts education and improved learning as well as attention. In terms of
engagement, one Dana study found that:
"For many children, interest in a particular art form leads to sustained attention when practicing that
art form. Moreover, engaging in art often involves resolving conflicts among competing possible
responses, such as when choosing the correct note to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to resolve conflict among competing responses is also a crucial aspect of attention
training. ... We expect, therefore, that arts training should exercise the executive attention network
and, therefore, also should improve cognition generally. (Posner)"
In another study conducted by the Arts Education Partnership, it found that:
"Young people who are disengaged from schools and other community institutions are at the
greatest risk of failure or harm. The researchers found that the arts provides a reason , and
sometimes the only reason , for being engaged with school or other organizations . These young
people would otherwise be left without access to any community of learners.". (Fiske)
Using theses conclusions, one can justify art integration as a means of increasing attendance to
school as well as productivity. If a student can remain engaged, excited, and interested in their own
learning, then their growth academically will flourish. These studies also found interesting
correlation in young students growth academically when paired with art education. The study
conducted by the Arts Education Partnership found that "James

Misconception Change The Game Project Analysis
Part One– Summary In various sports around the world, discovering the worthiest and most gifted
individuals to embark on the journey of becoming an elite level athlete is no small feat. For many
organizations in sport, this process known as talent identification (TI), is based on the evaluations of
often very young individuals' potential, and whether or not the attributes they possess can be
groomed to produce success in later years. With the ever growing demand to watch a winning team,
owners are pressured to find an attraction with low investment and high reward. The efficiency of
this talent assessment provides teams with the commercial benefit of recruiting youth at very young
ages, eventually selling them for massive transfer fees. Therefore, the use of such programs have
tremendous impact on the overall sporting experience and careers of many young players, stressing
the need to understand the fundamentals of talent identification not just on a business level, but also
with regards to youth involvement in sport. One of the common ... Show more content on

activity, O'Sullivan (2014) proposes that with the use of the phrase I love watching you play, we can

Renaissance Art Experience
Based off of the character played in the video game, being a Renaissance art patron proved to be
difficult. Obviously I started out as simply a merchant trying to make a living and come out with a
substantial profit that would then allow myself to buy art. As soon as I started to buy art, things
became more difficult as far as business. When just being a merchant selling wool, alum, and linen,
I did sell between countries and had some issues when it came to doing business with rivaling
countries, but when I incorporated art into the mix, I began to deal with personal relations with the
church and the pope. Since such a great deal of art was created to honor god and show how devoted
you were to the church by how extravagant and expensive the pieces were, trading between
countries would also cause issues with the reputation within the church. The Issue that seemed to be
the most problematic with being an art merchant, was how after you buy or ... Show more content

to go out and paint on the side of a chapel, they did it because they were paid to do and entered into

from self expression and then put these pieces out in the market and buyers find them. In the reading

High Fine Arts Programs Should Be Funded
Since the nation issued financial cuts, Fine Arts programs have been reduced or completely
abolished. This reduction instigates the controversy on how to deal with prioritizing funding from
the federal government. Students, parents, teachers, taxpayers, schools, and the federal government
are all directly involved in this controversy. People that value arts education tend to be more anxious
about the possible outcomes. The stakeholders are divided on whether or not the fine arts should be
funded in schools. Stakeholders worried about their non–fine arts programs want the funding
priority to be in their favor. However, people associated with fine arts want to see funding in their
programs. Pro–Fine arts education stakeholders mostly point to the values of the outcomes that
derive from the arts as their prime support for their argument. This controversy comes to an
agreement of schools needing to be funded equally and efficiently. In "The Stealth Inequities of
School Funding", Rutgers university professor, Bruce Baker, analyzed the comparison of goals of
state aid formulas and their outcomes. Although state aid formulas are constructed to endorse
fairness and capability, they are producing the inequality and incompetence. Baker discovered this
by examining how states distribute the funding they are given. States are giving the funding they
receive to low–poverty stricken schools. With additional study, he finds that the balance of funding
would be equalized if the money

Essay on Art Criticism and Art History
Art criticism and Art History
Case Study: The use of assemblage and the found object in historical and contemporary art practice.
The origins of the practice of assemblage can be traced back to its early twentieth century roots
based on ideas presented by Dadaists. The Dada movement was a literary and artistic movement
during the First World War and further developed as a non–art movement. The main idea of Dada
was to not follow a uniform rule of what an artwork entails in order to be valued. This movement
was significant in the development and history of art as it challenged society with new ideas
therefore provoking change in our perspective of what can be classified as aesthetically pleasing and
all the possibilities of what art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duchamp's works are both seen as postmodern as they use postmodern conventions such as
appropriation and parody (as seen in L.H.O.O.Q) and recontextualisation in 'Fountain' (above).

The re–emergence of the found object in pop art was significant in the development of the history of
art as it reinforced previous ideas presented by the Dada artists of aesthetics and of what society will
accept as an artistic work.
The re–emergence of the found object in pop art looked at artworks using contemporary theories and
knowledge that were established in the 1980s to challenge traditional and modernist ideas, which
was exactly the aim of the Dadaists. It is due to the challenging of contemporary perceptions of art
in which the found object would be considered a postmodern practice in its time.
Found art (also known as Ready–mades) is a description of art created by modified and undisguised
objects that are not considered art for the main reason of their non–art function. The art created by
these found objects convey meaning through their context, assemblage/composition and by the
artists intention and approaches taken to montage pieces together.
The use of assemblage and the found object in Pop Art practice became an artistic trend and is
exemplified by Robert Rauschenberg where he combines installations with the assemblage of large
physical objects and commercial photography to form 'Combine' in 1963. Rauschenberg

Marcel Duchamp's, 'Fountain' {1917}, is a readymade installation which undermines the
conventional practices of art making and display, challenging notions and rejecting the classical
aesthetic. Marcel Duchamp {1887–1968}, was a French artist who broke down the boundaries
between works of art and everyday objects. His mockery for conventional aesthetic standards led
him to devise his famous ready–mades, proclaiming an artistic revolution. The term "ready–made"
came to label mass– produced everyday objects taken out of their usual context and then becomes a
work of art through the choice or assistance of the artist. 'Fountain', is the most infamous example of
Duchamp's ready–mades and was widely seen as an icon of twentieth–century art. The

The Art Of The Readymade Essay
The Art of the readymade, a controversial topic both at the beginning of its conception and its
duration, was provocative for artists and audiences alike. What made the readymade so provocative
was the push by artists to go against one of the foundations of art, the material, and instead focus
almost entirely on its conceptual development. In short, a consequence of the readymade according
to Helen's Molesworth was "a disavowal of an ontological definition of art" . A definition previously
shaped by academic art focusing on the considered beautiful aesthetics of artworks that pleased
audiences up to the early 20th century. In this essay it will be argued that the readymade defies the
"retinal" aspect of art through two factors. The first factor is the application of a foundational
physical three step process to allow the readymade to be considered as art. This process is outlined
as the inclusive selection of object(s), the removal of the object(s) original purpose and its artistic
redefinition through its placement. Alongside this process is the second factor which is the artists
own personal experiences that accompanies and influences the readymades purpose. The process
and influence from personal experiences are evidently applied to readymades including Marcel
Duchamp's work Fountain, 1917 and Tracey Emin's work My Bed, 1998. These readymades are
considered art as this process and experience becomes the pivotal point in the development of art
shifting and redefining the

Ohio Adverse Possession Laws Case Summary
On January 1, 2008, four lawsuits involving Brad Pitt were filed in Ohio. The first was brought by
Matt Damon against Brad Pitt to acquire quiet title to one–acre of Brad's land that Matt had cleared
and built a barn on. Looking into quiet titles and adverse possession laws will determine if Matt can
get title to the land or not. The second case involves Snazzy Jeff, a paparazzo, seeing Maddox,
Brad's son, dropped his Pokémon camera. Snazzy Jeff then came up and took the item hoping to
find pictures to sell on it without informing Brad or Maddox. This may be a case of lost property or
theft that needs to be evaluated. The third case involves Brad suing Jackie Philabaum at the request
of his wife. At the parade, Brad took off his coat and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To acquire a quiet title to the land Matt Damon only needs 21 of those years. According to Ohio law,
the person wanting to obtain title from adverse possession must have possessed the property for 21
years without the permission of the owner, but in clear knowledge of the owner ("Ohio Adverse
Possession Laws"). There are four requirements listed to obtain a quiet title starting with using the
land without permission of the owner. Then they must treat the land as their own, use the land in an
obvious way and for a continuous period of time without sharing with others ("Ohio Adverse
Possession Laws"). Matt Daman easily completes all four of these requirements. He never asked
Brad for permission to clear the land and build a barn on Brad's land, but did. Brad repeatedly
visited and inspected the property in 1986, 1996, and 2002, seeing the barn but never saying
anything to Matt. Matt appears to have also used the land for a continuous period totaling 21 years
before requesting title to the one acre of land. Brad may have a defense if he had talked to Matt at
any time about the property and can prove it, but it will be a hard case to win for him. Matt will win
this case for a quiet title to the one acre of land with his barn on it because of the time that had
passed with no objection or other claims of possession by Brad. Later, with four children to

Explain The Three Column Styles Found In Ancient Greek Art

One column style is Ionic order. It originated in Eastern Greece, and had a more ornate column and

Another column style is Corinthian order. It grew from Ionic order, but is more ornate and elaborate.

big part in their art. Both the Warka Vase from Sumerian art and The Narmer Palette from Egyptian

Whoniverse: Character Analysis
There have been many questions over the years as to what happens after the Doctor walks away,

This is one of the main draws for me, even though I am not part of the demographic for the show I
am still finding it compelling viewing as it feels very much a natural expansion of the Whoniverse.
Having a couple of episodes drop in our laps in the first week was a wise plan, I feel. Not only did
we get to see how the characters coped without a cameo from Twelve himself and stand its own two

Ness' work, I have to admit to admiring the way he is weaving the various arcs together across the

How Did Marcel Duchamp Revolutionized The Art World
Marcel Duchamp revolutionized the art world with his readymade works of art. He took objects
from everyday life and turned them into works of art. He posed the question of what can be
considered art and who gets to decide what art is. Duchamp believed it was the viewer who by
giving meaning the object decided it was a work of art. He took art into the realm of ideas and
thoughts by ignoring the rules of aesthetic and what is considered to be beautiful works of art. In
Duchamp's first readymade Bycicle Wheel (1913) we can see his use of readymade objects in which
he took a bicycle wheel and a chair and put them together. These objects lose their significance as a
chair and bicycle wheel because by choosing to put them together and as an artist calling it art, he
believes that should be considered art. The significance of these objects changes from their original
meaning into that of a work of art; either because the artist decided, because it was put in a gallery
setting, because the critic decided, or because of the viewer giving the object meaning. The act of

just as painters choose their color palettes, he has turned it into a work of art. The meaning of the
work of art is also placed on the viewer, and by the viewer giving it meaning makes it a work of art.
This work of art resembles a lot of Duchamp's views as well as taking the viewer from the visual

the theme of whose am I as an idea of relationships and how our relationshops affect our vocation.
Palmer illustrates this when he says, "For there is no selfhood outside relationship" (Palmer). We
cannot become our true self without understanding our relationships. We need relationships to help
us find out more of who we are as well as we need this relationships to sometimes help to guide us
and grow us. This same idea of relationships is illustrated throughout the Legend of Bagger Vance.

When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her...
When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and
hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness.
Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great
courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my
opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the
way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. Marina
Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many people asked
her where she is from, she replied "I came from a country that no longer ... Show more content on

Space was involved in the performance as well. A table and two wooden chairs created a great
amount of space in a big room. Until Abramovic decides to take the table away, interacting with the
audience. No movement emotions was made from her. On the other hand, the audience showed all
kinds of emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was no sound at
all, but there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her. Marina Abramovic
uses no material. She finds it important to make her performance last long lengths for the spiritual
and "transformative properties" Abramovic believes "the longer the performance can get the more
transcendental it gets" (History). She also believed the longer you stay the more energy is invested
from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her body in dangerous and close fatal
situations, by cuts and mutilation. To test her physical limits. She goes through a process training to
prepare her for her performance. She prepared six months before the performance, she became a
vegetarian. Only ate at certain times because of digestion. Very strict diet with very light food and
only eating in the morning very certain things. She never went to the bathroom. She trained by
drinking water every 45 minutes and sleeping, 45 minutes and back to sleep. She isolated herself
from the world. Only talk to a couple of people like curation, doctor and few other people.

Art In The Modern Era
The modern era was brought about in the mid–nineteenth century by the industrial revolution in
Western Europe. New technologies and the advancement of comfort amenities would change the
way that people lived daily lives. Many individuals would move from agricultural areas into cities,
changing from simple lives focused on family and farming into the dense lifestyles of city life. With
such drastic changes, artists (specifically painters) were drawn to a different type of landscape
paintings, which would involve new styles and techniques that would change the way art would be
produced for a century. In the years before the modern era, the art academy had recognized
movements such as the Renaissance and Baroque eras, the celebration of the Rococo style, and the
ideal paintings of Neoclassicism. However, artists at the time, did not paint what was before them
objectively, but instead focused on what they perceived the scenes to look like. Amongst new
developments, photographic technology became a standard for realistic images, and thirty years
down the road, it would become the most accurate way to capture a scene. The largest potential
threat photography posed to the painters of the modern era, was that the camera was becoming more
common and accessible to the public, who did not need years of instruction and discipline to
operate. This new technology, that could capture scenes with unmatched detail from sculpture, paint,
or drawing, forced the artists to change

Sandy Skoglund Essay
Sandy Skoglund Sandy Skoglund has been in the forefront of contemporary art in the United States,
as well as overseas, for nearly two decades. Her dramatic impact to the art world didn't begin
overnight. After sheer dedication to art education she received her BA degree in Studio Art in 1968
from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts. Upon getting her BA, she pursued further
education at the University of Iowa where she received her MD. With her remarkable educational
background, Skoglund decided to expand her horizons by teaching. Her teaching career grew at a
rapid pace and she found herself teaching at the University of Hartford from 1973 to 1976. In late
1976, she was offered a position at Rutgers University, New Jersey, ... Show more content on

Some of her works include "Radioactive Cats", "Fox Games", "Walking on Eggshells", and
"Shimmering Madness". After seeing Ms. Skoglund's work in the book Artforms , I was totally
clueless as to what she was expressing. The particular illustration I'm referring to is "Revenge of the
Goldfish". If the name alone sets you back, don't worry you're not the only one. She has an eerie
way of taking ordinary things, fish in this case, and forming a scene in which no one could possibly
think of.
Now that I have done my research on Ms. Skoglund, I have found an irresistible urge to see her
work. One thing I like the most about her artwork is that you never know what you are going to get
next. Her creativity is absolutely endless. Life magazine listed her as one the world's top 100
photographers and she has received numerous achievement awards for her continued superiority in
the creative world of art. She joking stated, "I feel I've succeeded when a museum guard comes in
and stares at my exhibitions". I feel as though she has succeeded beyond belief and with being 54
years of age, her will and drive to create new ideas is stronger than ever. A columnist from The
Cincinnati Enquirer , Owen Findsen, states it best, "Ms. Skoglud is the rarest artist who has found a
voice so unique that it needs a category all it's own." The only thing that I would like to add to that
would be that Sandy Skoglund has become a creative

ReadyMade was a do–it–yourself magazine targeting adults in their 20's and 30's (millennials). This
group of individuals want to express their creativity with new hip trendy ideas. ReadyMade gave it
to them, by showing how to do things themselves by individualizing products and saving them
money at the same time. Also, the readers contributed a lot of ideas to ReadyMade. Millennials are
more apt to go green, so they are finding ways to reuse materials they already have and yet be
creative in what they are creating. ReadyMade was founded and published in San Francisco, so the
magazine had a hip factor that appealed to millennials. ReadyMade was purchased by a large
publishing company, Meredith, in 2006. Subscriptions had increased and

What Is The Criticism Of Adorno
Adorno contrasts Benjamin's theory. Adorno, in his writings states that he believes technology and
the ability to recreate pieces of work has no possible positive repercussions. Adorno believes that the
ability to recreate something destroys the originality and value of the piece, but unlike Benjamin ,
Adorno sees no benefit in art forms being more widely available through the ability to record and
reproduce copies of such pieces, is not beneficial to the piece in any means. Adorno believes that

All Good Children Artistic Influence
Artistic influence What does art mean to you? Is it just something pretty to look at? Does each piece
hold more meaning than the one before? Art had always been a way for artists to express themselves
freely or to spread an important message to others. For Max, it was a way to express his feelings; it
was something that could show a deeper meaning than what lies on the surface and it can be
something that gives someone else hope. Art is a positive force in the novel "All Good Children"
that not only helped Max, but others withstand and resist as well. Firstly, art is a way for people to
express themselves visually. Max uses it to show how he feels about the vaccinations. He clearly has
a negative attitude towards it since what he painted doesn't display appreciation for the new policy.
Max painted a tent that was dull and grey on the outside, but colourful and joyful on the inside. He
drew children playing, having fun, and being kids. His painting represents a wonderful place that his
city once was. He named the piece "Withstanding on a Perilous Planet", meaning ... Show more

the city saw the tent, they suddenly had more ambition and a better goal to reach in their life. The
guards by the border said "it gives people hope, that there are still people who care, even in places

How Can Propaganda Be Defined As Art?
Can propaganda be defined as art? I believe that propaganda can be art and art can be propaganda. I
believe everything we see on television and social media can be defined as art, so does that mean
that the pieces of propaganda on social media be counted as art? In an article found on BBC,
Alastair Sooke states, "When it comes to visual art, common sense suggests that propaganda is at
odds with greatness (Sooke 2014)". In my words, propaganda is defined as a thing or idea that is
false, and is made to manipulate the minds of other people. Even though art is not always false, it
can be manipulating to the minds of individuals in many ways. It can make people feel happy, sad,
scared and maybe confusing. Sometimes, art that you look at could be a symbol of propaganda
without your knowledge. Some forms of art can be considered propaganda, but others cannot and is

Most advertisements in magazines can be symbolized as propaganda art. In many cases, pictures in
magazines can be false information. For example, pictures that advertise make–up or skin care
products can be a big piece of propaganda. The false information, in this case, is the fake pictures
that they edit to make the models look good. From an article written by Jo Swinson from CNN, he
states, "One study found that one in four people is depressed about their body, another found that
almost a third of women say they would sacrifice a year of life to achieve the ideal body weight and
shape, and almost half of girls in a recent survey think the pressure to look good is the worst part of
being female (Swinson 2011)". I agree with Jo, as these women that he talks about hate what they

because of these products, so they seek to buy and use these products. Magazines are filled with
false information, which is considered propaganda and

Comparing Afterlife With Archie
Afterlife with Archie was one of my favorite pieces we viewed throughout the semester. It was
separated from the other works before it because it used visual horror within a book. Many of the
works in the internet horror module are visual but different because they are short films. "The Black
Hole" was one of the works we viewed that showed a different kind of horror than any of the other
pieces we viewed. The works have similarities, but very different stories. Both works are similar in
the fact that they use a visual media to convey the story. The types of media are different, Afterlife
with Archie is a book and the visual media being utilized is comic drawings. "The Black Hole" is a
short film and uses video. Although the media sources are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The other works had no visual aid and the pages were restricted to words on every page. Afterlife
with Archie had dialogue to aid in the book, but was unique from the first page. The book used
different shades of red and blue that helped in setting the mood. The first page of the book is
blacked out with red paint splattered on it like blood, the words "This is how the end of the world
begins..."(Aguirre–Sacasa 1.) sets the mood for the book and gives the idea that this will be an
intense journey through the pages. "The Black Hole" is a short film and uses video and sound as the
only means of communication to the audience. There is no dialogue since the man in the film is the
only person in the office. This film relied heavily on using video to convey the message flickering
lights and dark shadows add a scary feeling in the film. All the other works we viewed had dialogue,
since this film did not it stood out among the others. Visualizing the horror lets the audience see
exactly what the author and artist envisioned. It allows the viewer to see the raw image the artist
wanted us to see. In other works, monsters and places are described to the viewer and the viewer can
make visual images, but that varies among every individual. Visual aid deletes the variation among
viewers and captures the horror the way it was

R Mutt's Fountain: Twentieth Century Art
R Mutt's Fountain, is considered one of Duchamp's most famous works, and "is widely seen as an
icon of twentieth century art" . The original, which is lost, consisted of a standard urinal, presented
on its back, with "R Mutt 1917" written on the side of it. Although the original was lost, 17 known
replicas have been made from glazed earthenware, painted to resemble the original porcelain. R
Mutt's Fountain has been seen as an ultimate example of what Duchamp called a 'readymade'; an
ordinary manufactured object designated by the artist as a work of art. The French artist was known
for associating his art with conceptual and Dadaism ideas, coining the term 'anti–art', a precursor to
Dada, after creating ready made works such as R Mutt's Fountain. ... Show more content on

He presented this commercial object as art, a form called 'readymade', allowing him as an artist to

Duchamp sparked new ideas of what art was all about, stunning artists and audiences around the
world; while continuing to argue "an ordinary object [could be] elevated to the dignity of a work of
art by the mere choice of an artist" , allowing people to see that art could be whatever the artist

Importance Of Speech On Fine Arts
Art, music, and other fine art classes are always the first things to go when schools have a budget
cut, however, these things are important and necessary for children. It's been proven that art not only
to their creativity, but their academic achievements and advancements. On top of the academic and
creative advantages, fine arts programs just mean a lot to some people. And it seems like the fine
arts mean a lot to most students at Lewis Central High School. In my speech I'll be focusing mainly
on the art program. Now I don't believe that our art program is at any risk of being cut, but I do
believe that there are some issues that should be looked at, for example the lower classmen can take
very few art classes, there are many outside art festivals and other opportunities that are not touched
upon for those same lower classmen, and compared to other fine art programs the opportunities are
minimal and the program itself is difficult to be apart of until later years of high school. I've been
interested in art for as long as I can remember and recently, end of seventh grade to be exact, I
decided to pursue it as a potential career, so I took as many art classes as I could. At the middle
school, we were offered 1 art class a trimester and I was even lucky enough to be a teacher aide for
Ms. Baker. I had the opportunity to enter contests and submit work to a festival, all in the span of
one school year.
Continuing with my first point of lower classmen have very few options when

Analysis Of The Film 'Gibber Eidolon'
Greetings from the Abyss. The name's Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot
entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film,
to video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences.
The title of the film roughly translates to "Babbling Ghost." Babbling from fear or shock. The
Gibber Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is
of diffused chaos.
Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have
residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic
computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is
used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly
for metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found
footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years.
This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I've been and the way I've
responded to them, and the ideas I've had along the way. It is a work of spirit.
The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I've been

Environmental Economics Exam
Take–Home Exam
Exercise 1
(a)
If the emissions in the area are left unregulated then the two factories will emit as much as they can,
which means there will be zero abatement (MAC=0). So we have:
Factory A: MACA=0 4000–EA=0 EA=4000
Factory B: MACB=0 4000–4EB=0 EB=1000
For the socially optimal level of emissions we have:
MACA=4000–EA EA=4000–MACA
MACB=4000–4EB EB=1000–0,25MACB
By adding the above by parts we get:
E=5000–1,25MAC MAC=4000–0,8E
The socially optimal level of emissions is where MAC equals MD, therefore:
MAC=MD 4000–0,8E*=1,7E* 4000=2,5E* E*=1600
(b)
First, we must find the excess demand for permits for each factory. In order to do this, we must
assume 2 prices for each factory.
Factory A:
If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, we have:
MAC=MD 360– 65 E = 0,3E* 360 = 310 E* + 1210 E* E*= 1015×360 E*=240 units.
(b)
In order for the two tanneries to be cost–efficient, two conditions need to be in force:
EA+EB=E
MACA=MACB
So, we have:
EA+EB=240 EA= 240–EB
MACA=MACB 360–2EA=360–3EB 360–2(240– EB) =360– 3EB 5EB=480 EB=96
And EA= 240–EB EA= 240–96 EA=144
So, Firm A should emit EA=144 units and Firm B EB=96.
For EA=144 we have:
MACA=360–2(144) =360–288=72
So:
TACA=180–144×722=25922=1296
For EB=96 we have:
MACB=360–3(96) =360–288=72
So:
TACB=120–96×722=17282=864
(c)
Since, the government sets an emission tax, in order to find the units that each firm will be willing to
emit under this tax we set MAC=tax, because each tannery will choose to emit until its MAC
becomes equal to the tax. So, we have:
Tannery A will emit: MACA=66 360– 2EA=66 2EA=294 EA=147 units
Tannery B will emit: MACB=66 360 –3EB=66 3EB=294 EB=98 units
Under this policy of taxing we have:
For tannery A the cost of compliance is:
TCA=TACA+(t×EA)
TACA=12×180–14766$=1089$
So:

Art Reflection
When I found out the first paper assignment was going to look at the SIUE art show, I was intrigued.
I have only been to one other art exhibit in my life and it was in Washington D.C. I did not have as
high of expectations for the SIUE show as I did for the one in D.C., but I do enjoy looking at art so I
was excited. It was a slightly different experience than my D.C adventure, but still interesting. There
was not as many people and it was quieter. I liked this setting better because I was able to focus
more on understanding and interpreting the art. Going into it, I figured most of the art would be
either paintings on canvas or sculptures. When I arrived at the show I was proved wrong. There
were sculptures and paintings of course, but there was also a handful of photographs and other
outside materials being used to portray a deeper meaning through art. All of the pieces I looked at
portrayed such a deeper meaning than the one perceived at first glance; I had to really think about
the pieces to understand them. I did enjoy going and looking at the art because I love seeing the
different and creative ways people can express themselves. I was also impressed by the use of all the
different materials other than paint and canvas. I do love looking and learning about the meaning of
an art piece, but there also were some pieces that i found confusing. However, after looking at the
pieces and reading the titles, I found a deeper meaning in the pieces I did enjoy. Walking into

Jeff Kons Vs Duchamp
Jeff Koons builds on the Duchampian tradition of ready–made materials in the production of art.
Koons brings the art objects out of mainstream culture and pushes them to their ultimate limit,
compared to the ordinary and frequently mass produced objects that Marcel Duchamp reimagined as
art objects such as the bicycle wheel and the urinal. For Duchamp however, this act was one of
supreme skepticism. As the New York Review of Books art critic Jed Perl explains in his critique of
Jeff Koons' Whitney Museum Retrospective "The Cult of Jeff Koons," Duchamp differs from Koons
in that Duchamp's production of ready–made objects was a result of a need for art to become
understood on a deeper level by questioning its function in the sphere of history. ... Show more

When one compares Duchamp's process of producing these objects to Koons, it is easy to view
Koons as an adaptation of that theory, yet an adaptation that almost carelessly and haphazardly
capitalizes on the art world's increasingly confused worship of artists like Duchamp, Rauschenberg
and Warhol. In observing this group of artists, we begin to see a neatly unfolding chronology that
places Duchamp at the top whom subsequently influences Rauschenberg and Johns who then
propagate the emergence of Warhol who then directly begets Koons. These artists both criticize and
celebrate commercial culture making it the subject of their work. It is Koons however, who emerged
to artistic prominence in an era of extreme media saturation, and therefore presents a body of work
that capitalizes on commercial

Creating A Form Of Art Essay
A 2013 survey found that eight out of ten Americans are overly stressed about their jobs or
schooling. Three out of five Americans cope with their stress in unhealthy ways such as overeating,
drinking, smoking, or ignoring their stress altogether (Corinthian). Creating a form of art is is one of
the most effective methods to relieve stress. The concept of using art as a form of managing stress
has been around throughout all of history. However, art therapy was not a distinct profession until
the 1940's. Creating art is not only effective in managing stress, but also helps us safely identify,
alleviate, and communicate our pent up emotions. Art allows you to take a moment to yourself and
forget about your day to day problems. We tend to learn more about ourselves while creating art,
"gaining greater self–knowledge can help us identify why and when we are stressed giving us the
capacity to remove stressors or find ways of supporting ourselves when in stressful situations"
(Willieme). Every form of art encourages creative thinking and problem solving skills, allowing you
to come up with your own solutions since there are no right or wrong answers in art. The benefits of
art aren't limited to emotions, there are physical benefits to creating art as well. "The average person
has 60,000 thoughts per day and 95% of them are exactly the same" (Alban). Creating art allows
you to focus on a single activity and clear your everyday thoughts due to the "rhythmic and

How Does Art Understand Mental Illness?
Throughout history, art has been put to the back burner, People nowadays use art to relieve stress,
calm down the side effects of mental disorders, and also spread awareness on many mental disorders
amongst others. Art has been proven to help people understand mental illnesses more than what we
used to. Art has been underestimated for many years. It has been shut down, put out of schools, and
many other things. Art has opened eyes to the true reality of mental illnesses amongst other things.
Throughout the years people, have been taught to look at people differently if they do not share the
same ideas and thoughts as them. People who have mental disorders will never have the same ideas
and thoughts as anyone else in the world. Art has been used to show people what is really going on

Some think that if someone is mentally ill, they do not produce as good of work as someone who

ill can produce something that will personally challenge the minds of the viewer if they knew that
the person who made the art piece was mentally ill. Art should be more valued if the public knows
the artist struggled to finish the piece because of their minds being in a different state than their
body? Art has made mental illness more open and common through the stories behind their creators.
For example, when people found out that Van Gogh was crazy enough to cut off his own ear because
he did not think that it belonged to him. He thought it was a foreign object on his body. They then
started to value his artwork even more, especially his ever so famous self–portrait. Art has also been

Descriptive Essay On Art

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On Art So, what is art? Art is a arrangement of ideas that an artist makes or builds. There are various variations for art that express their found creativity and inspiration to their artwork. Many people make art to display their emotions and ideas towards life or to create something beautiful for spectators. Art is a form of pleasure which appeases the audience to stay connected or feel fixated on that certain artwork. Art is understood through focusing on its: function, visual form, content and creativity. It should communicate with the viewers and help them imagine the concept of the artwork. They should also qualify work that could be seen or physically felt, displaying their ideas to be conveyed to the public. Imagery and symbolic meaning should be present with their art piece. In addition, they must portray their creativity and imagination on a canvas or any work of art. In my opinion, art is a representation of your thoughts and emotions portrayed to the audience in a perceivable and communicative manner, helping the audience connect with the artwork. The creativity of paintings helps the viewer understand the artist's emotions, as well as their art piece. Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest painters of the twentieth century, helped me understand more about art, as well as his point of view of his own style or method to display his emotions onto a canvas. I learned that Picasso was the creator of modern arts through his imaginative and innovative ideas found in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Richard Prince's Un Horse In 1917, Marcel Duchamp submitted a mass produced porcelain urinal, dubbed a readymade, into an art exhibition. Duchamp's actions signaled a proto– postmodern concept while modernism was still prevailing the art world (Kuenzli, Naumann 65). Appropriation of mass produced products and media continued with Pop art of the 1960's. In continuing this tradition, Richard Prince, whose employment at Time Life provided him with cut up articles and advertisements, began to blatantly appropriate photographs as his own (Spector 27). As postmodern works they "recognize that the past, since it cannot really be destroyed...must be revisited: but with irony..." (Powel 80). This idea is prevalent in Prince's Cowboy series. As a postmodern work, Prince's Untitled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1, is an ektacolor print shot in the 1980's. The image of the cowboy is not original to Prince–it is a blatant, appropriated image from an advertisement for Marlboro cigarettes. It is a photograph of a photograph; Prince challenges authorship. What separates Prince's print and the original advertisement is the removal of the advertising text and the cropping and enlarging of the image. The cowboy is left alone, and the image becomes reminiscent of the American West paintings by Frederic Remington. In using the photographic medium, Prince dismantles the authentic record of photography by exposing the artifice already present in the advertisement: the myth of the cowboy. The heroic myth of the cowboy came to shape through dime novels in the late 19th century and continued through the western genre films of Hollywood. The mythological cowboy is white, attractive, hyper–masculine, rugged and free. The reality of the cowboy is of Hispanic origin; he was a young adult hired by cattle ranchers to drive longhorns from Texas to Wyoming or Montana; he was "noisy, uncouth, loudmouth of low social rank" (Spector 284). Prince's omission of the text of the advertisements begins the deconstruction of the myth. The image of the cowboy is freedom and perfection; it speaks to one's desires–it is unattainable. In re–relating the image to the advertisement, the reality of the cowboy is shattered because of the product advertised: cigarettes. A contradiction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. John Whiteley's The Art Of Assemblages Artist have been making assemblages for many years. Materials and found objects can be used by an artist as vehicles of expression. The 1961 show "Art of Assemblages" responded to a time loaded with cultural transitions. In chapter two, Whiteley talks about the artists in the show and how they experimented with found pieces to give a new voice to seemingly unimportant and forgotten material. Assemblage art reflects on the short–lived nature of old objects. The original intent of an object is reimagined, given new purpose and contained layers of meaning. In chapter five, Whiteley examines the Nouveaux Realistes and how they managed to bring art and life closer together. Their art was comparable to dada and pop–art because of the use of mass–produced objects. Just like the artists in the "Art of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using a more ideological approach rather than a stylistic one, these artists also managed to shine a light on the wastefulness of western over–production. When I use discarded material, it makes me think about the story of the previous owner's story but it also reminds me of the amount of waste each of produce, especially in regards to clothing and fabric. In the section "Curiosities, Collections and Memorabilia", Susan Steward examines the symbolic meaning and narrative of the souvenir and how that relates to the found object. She explains how people authenticate meaning through souvenirs. Souvenirs authenticate the past while the past gives authentication to an entire collection. Souvenirs remind us of an experience we've had or allow us to imagine an experience we've never had. Steward says that a souvenir functions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why Has Raphael Found In Greek Art Brigitte Lewis CSTU 101–D19 Professor Shana Gammon July 23, 2017 Raphael created unique works of art during 1509–1511. In the Greek times, as I have read in my chapter readings that there were different values placed on different factors. For example, I learned of visual arts, I think the visual arts were used to depict certain feelings someone may have and that is there way of formal expression, through visual paintings or sculptures. I learned from watching the video that Raphael had created in arts of work in an intricate fashion. In some of the paintings that were shown in the video depicts, a gentleman sitting off to the side by himself appearing to be in either deep thought or just wants to isolate himself from the commotion that is ... • 9. Found Object Art Another technique frequently used by artists during postmodernism is "found object" art. Often, these works of art are portrayed in the form of sculptures, but they can be in almost any form and on any medium. This form of art consists of using random and everyday objects such as buttons, books, light bulbs, broken computers, glass, fabrics, and many other sorts of items. For example, an artist that works with found object art might take several kitchen utensils and place them together in a certain way to make it look like an American Bald Eagle, or broken furniture to create a desolate landscape. Found object art normally looks or actually is 3D, in a form where you can really feel it and touch it. The display and arrangement of found objects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using thick, vintage books as his medium, he creates landscapes from the pages ever since 1999, carving and shaping them with a circular saw. These intricate and unique sculptures are in high demand and have sold for up to $20,000. "His work originates from the concept that one gains true knowledge through erosion, not accretion. The work sparks such questions as: Is there too much data? Are we drowning in a sea of answers? Why are we obsessed with knowing so many things? Could you know more about the world by knowing less? Are we losing ourselves?" (Guy Laramée). In his work, mountains, hills, or waves of disused and misused knowledge return to what they really are – simple landscapes. They erode a bit more and they become smaller, not as intimidating, then they flatten slowly and become not near as important. Piles of obsolete and heavy encyclopedias, inevitably, do not need to say anything. They are used to show us, not tell us, of the secrets that lie within the carven pages. Laramée's work is about making us feel alive, about transforming and being given new opportunities in the world. It is about losing yourself in the landscapes that he creates and finding yourself in the center of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Rajput Painting Analysis Rajput Painting Throughout the modules of this course we have learned about different elements of Eastern art that give us the tools to try and understand the complexity that is Indian painting. Indian painting has dated back many centuries, starting with paintings on pottery coming from the bronze age found in Baluchistan 3 (17). Since this time until the 17th century (which is when the piece of art I chose), Indian painting has progressed and developed immensely. I chose art from the Rajput era of painting, coming from Rajasthan India. Even in the painting I chose for this assignment, you can see the effects the culture from that time had on the Rajput style of art, in comparison with other periods of Indian painting. Although there is little information on Rajput painting, the impact this period had on Indian painting and its development after this period is immense. Rajasthan India also known as "Abode of Princes" which contained many distinctive geographical regions that held different Rajput states "each enjoying a nominal independence when they could escape the attentions of their more powerful neighbors" 4 (131). These different states led to the development of the different styles of Rajput art from the 17th century to the 19th century. Rajput people lived in a culture that put a lot of emphasis on honour and bravery, their society also expected these traits not only of men but of women as well 4 (131). The conditions that produced this type of expectation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Arts Education Collaboration Throughout the years, hundreds of studies have been conducted regarding the correlation of art, creativity and one's ability to learn. Although there is no direct scientific explanation for the results of these studies, their numerous and repetitive findings give them credibility. Reading through studies conducted by the Dana Foundation as well as the Arts Education Partnership one can find correlations between an arts education and improved learning as well as attention. In terms of engagement, one Dana study found that: "For many children, interest in a particular art form leads to sustained attention when practicing that art form. Moreover, engaging in art often involves resolving conflicts among competing possible responses, such as when choosing the correct note to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ability to resolve conflict among competing responses is also a crucial aspect of attention training. ... We expect, therefore, that arts training should exercise the executive attention network and, therefore, also should improve cognition generally. (Posner)" In another study conducted by the Arts Education Partnership, it found that: "Young people who are disengaged from schools and other community institutions are at the greatest risk of failure or harm. The researchers found that the arts provides a reason , and sometimes the only reason , for being engaged with school or other organizations . These young people would otherwise be left without access to any community of learners.". (Fiske) Using theses conclusions, one can justify art integration as a means of increasing attendance to school as well as productivity. If a student can remain engaged, excited, and interested in their own learning, then their growth academically will flourish. These studies also found interesting correlation in young students growth academically when paired with art education. The study conducted by the Arts Education Partnership found that "James ... • 15. Misconception Change The Game Project Analysis Part One– Summary In various sports around the world, discovering the worthiest and most gifted individuals to embark on the journey of becoming an elite level athlete is no small feat. For many organizations in sport, this process known as talent identification (TI), is based on the evaluations of often very young individuals' potential, and whether or not the attributes they possess can be groomed to produce success in later years. With the ever growing demand to watch a winning team, owners are pressured to find an attraction with low investment and high reward. The efficiency of this talent assessment provides teams with the commercial benefit of recruiting youth at very young ages, eventually selling them for massive transfer fees. Therefore, the use of such programs have tremendous impact on the overall sporting experience and careers of many young players, stressing the need to understand the fundamentals of talent identification not just on a business level, but also with regards to youth involvement in sport. One of the common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's a way of ending what O'Sullivan (2014) calls the "Race to Nowhere", in which parents constantly critique the performance of their children and demand more effort at younger ages to achieve elite level status. In order to reverse the effects of the ever–growing scrutiny in youth activity, O'Sullivan (2014) proposes that with the use of the phrase I love watching you play, we can drastically change the currently demoting mindset of youth sport participation worldwide. In doing so, kids with no longer see sport as a sole means of being identified as talented, but rather as a welcoming environment which provides equal opportunity for youth to participate in competitive activity, and encourages failure as means of overall ... • 17. Renaissance Art Experience Based off of the character played in the video game, being a Renaissance art patron proved to be difficult. Obviously I started out as simply a merchant trying to make a living and come out with a substantial profit that would then allow myself to buy art. As soon as I started to buy art, things became more difficult as far as business. When just being a merchant selling wool, alum, and linen, I did sell between countries and had some issues when it came to doing business with rivaling countries, but when I incorporated art into the mix, I began to deal with personal relations with the church and the pope. Since such a great deal of art was created to honor god and show how devoted you were to the church by how extravagant and expensive the pieces were, trading between countries would also cause issues with the reputation within the church. The Issue that seemed to be the most problematic with being an art merchant, was how after you buy or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reading mentioned that many paintings that attained such popularity and meaning were not things that had been painted and then sold to a buyer. They were created by the painter to meet the requests of their client. Artist were commissioned to do public paintings or paint churches were the ones who gained most fame. But they did not just start painting these paintings because they wanted to go out and paint on the side of a chapel, they did it because they were paid to do and entered into a legal contract sometimes. In today's market, a lot of artists do it the opposite. They create pieces from self expression and then put these pieces out in the market and buyers find them. • 19. High Fine Arts Programs Should Be Funded Since the nation issued financial cuts, Fine Arts programs have been reduced or completely abolished. This reduction instigates the controversy on how to deal with prioritizing funding from the federal government. Students, parents, teachers, taxpayers, schools, and the federal government are all directly involved in this controversy. People that value arts education tend to be more anxious about the possible outcomes. The stakeholders are divided on whether or not the fine arts should be funded in schools. Stakeholders worried about their non–fine arts programs want the funding priority to be in their favor. However, people associated with fine arts want to see funding in their programs. Pro–Fine arts education stakeholders mostly point to the values of the outcomes that derive from the arts as their prime support for their argument. This controversy comes to an agreement of schools needing to be funded equally and efficiently. In "The Stealth Inequities of School Funding", Rutgers university professor, Bruce Baker, analyzed the comparison of goals of state aid formulas and their outcomes. Although state aid formulas are constructed to endorse fairness and capability, they are producing the inequality and incompetence. Baker discovered this by examining how states distribute the funding they are given. States are giving the funding they receive to low–poverty stricken schools. • 21. Essay on Art Criticism and Art History Art criticism and Art History Case Study: The use of assemblage and the found object in historical and contemporary art practice. The origins of the practice of assemblage can be traced back to its early twentieth century roots based on ideas presented by Dadaists. The Dada movement was a literary and artistic movement during the First World War and further developed as a non–art movement. The main idea of Dada was to not follow a uniform rule of what an artwork entails in order to be valued. This movement was significant in the development and history of art as it challenged society with new ideas therefore provoking change in our perspective of what can be classified as aesthetically pleasing and all the possibilities of what art ... Duchamp's works are both seen as postmodern as they use postmodern conventions such as appropriation and parody (as seen in L.H.O.O.Q) and recontextualisation in 'Fountain' (above). * * * * * * * * * * * The re–emergence of the found object in pop art was significant in the development of the history of art as it reinforced previous ideas presented by the Dada artists of aesthetics and of what society will accept as an artistic work. The re–emergence of the found object in pop art looked at artworks using contemporary theories and knowledge that were established in the 1980s to challenge traditional and modernist ideas, which was exactly the aim of the Dadaists. It is due to the challenging of contemporary perceptions of art in which the found object would be considered a postmodern practice in its time. Found art (also known as Ready–mades) is a description of art created by modified and undisguised objects that are not considered art for the main reason of their non–art function. The art created by these found objects convey meaning through their context, assemblage/composition and by the artists intention and approaches taken to montage pieces together. The use of assemblage and the found object in Pop Art practice became an artistic trend and is exemplified by Robert Rauschenberg where he combines installations with the assemblage of large physical objects and commercial photography to form 'Combine' in 1963. Marcel Duchamp's Fountain Marcel Duchamp's, 'Fountain' {1917}, is a readymade installation which undermines the conventional practices of art making and display, challenging notions and rejecting the classical aesthetic. Marcel Duchamp {1887–1968}, was a French artist who broke down the boundaries between works of art and everyday objects. His mockery for conventional aesthetic standards led him to devise his famous ready–mades, proclaiming an artistic revolution. The term "ready–made" came to label mass– produced everyday objects taken out of their usual context and then becomes a work of art through the choice or assistance of the artist. • 27. The Art Of The Readymade Essay The Art of the readymade, a controversial topic both at the beginning of its conception and its duration, was provocative for artists and audiences alike. What made the readymade so provocative was the push by artists to go against one of the foundations of art, the material, and instead focus almost entirely on its conceptual development. In short, a consequence of the readymade according to Helen's Molesworth was "a disavowal of an ontological definition of art" . A definition previously shaped by academic art focusing on the considered beautiful aesthetics of artworks that pleased audiences up to the early 20th century. In this essay it will be argued that the readymade defies the "retinal" aspect of art through two factors. The first factor is the application of a foundational physical three step process to allow the readymade to be considered as art. This process is outlined as the inclusive selection of object(s), the removal of the object(s) original purpose and its artistic redefinition through its placement. Alongside this process is the second factor which is the artists own personal experiences that accompanies and influences the readymades purpose. The process and influence from personal experiences are evidently applied to readymades including Marcel Duchamp's work Fountain, 1917 and Tracey Emin's work My Bed, 1998. These readymades are considered art as this process and experience becomes the pivotal point in the development of art shifting and redefining the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first was brought by Matt Damon against Brad Pitt to acquire quiet title to one–acre of Brad's land that Matt had cleared and built a barn on. Looking into quiet titles and adverse possession laws will determine if Matt can get title to the land or not. The second case involves Snazzy Jeff, a paparazzo, seeing Maddox, Brad's son, dropped his Pokémon camera. Snazzy Jeff then came up and took the item hoping to find pictures to sell on it without informing Brad or Maddox. This may be a case of lost property or theft that needs to be evaluated. The third case involves Brad suing Jackie Philabaum at the request of his wife. At the parade, Brad took off his coat and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To acquire a quiet title to the land Matt Damon only needs 21 of those years. According to Ohio law, the person wanting to obtain title from adverse possession must have possessed the property for 21 years without the permission of the owner, but in clear knowledge of the owner ("Ohio Adverse Possession Laws"). There are four requirements listed to obtain a quiet title starting with using the land without permission of the owner. Then they must treat the land as their own, use the land in an obvious way and for a continuous period of time without sharing with others ("Ohio Adverse Possession Laws"). Matt Daman easily completes all four of these requirements. He never asked Brad for permission to clear the land and build a barn on Brad's land, but did. Brad repeatedly visited and inspected the property in 1986, 1996, and 2002, seeing the barn but never saying anything to Matt. Matt appears to have also used the land for a continuous period totaling 21 years before requesting title to the one acre of land. Brad may have a defense if he had talked to Matt at any time about the property and can prove it, but it will be a hard case to win for him. Matt will win this case for a quiet title to the one acre of land with his barn on it because of the time that had passed with no objection or other claims of possession by Brad. This is one of the main draws for me, even though I am not part of the demographic for the show I am still finding it compelling viewing as it feels very much a natural expansion of the Whoniverse. Having a couple of episodes drop in our laps in the first week was a wise plan, I feel. Not only did we get to see how the characters coped without a cameo from Twelve himself and stand its own two feet, the show was able to dig deeper into the roles, seeing what made them tick. As someone new to Ness' work, I have to admit to admiring the way he is weaving the various arcs together across the episodes so far. • 37. How Did Marcel Duchamp Revolutionized The Art World Marcel Duchamp revolutionized the art world with his readymade works of art. He took objects from everyday life and turned them into works of art. He posed the question of what can be considered art and who gets to decide what art is. Duchamp believed it was the viewer who by giving meaning the object decided it was a work of art. He took art into the realm of ideas and thoughts by ignoring the rules of aesthetic and what is considered to be beautiful works of art. In Duchamp's first readymade Bycicle Wheel (1913) we can see his use of readymade objects in which he took a bicycle wheel and a chair and put them together. These objects lose their significance as a chair and bicycle wheel because by choosing to put them together and as an artist calling it art, he believes that should be considered art. • 43. Art In The Modern Era The modern era was brought about in the mid–nineteenth century by the industrial revolution in Western Europe. New technologies and the advancement of comfort amenities would change the way that people lived daily lives. Many individuals would move from agricultural areas into cities, changing from simple lives focused on family and farming into the dense lifestyles of city life. With such drastic changes, artists (specifically painters) were drawn to a different type of landscape paintings, which would involve new styles and techniques that would change the way art would be produced for a century. In the years before the modern era, the art academy had recognized movements such as the Renaissance and Baroque eras, the celebration of the Rococo style, and the ideal paintings of Neoclassicism. However, artists at the time, did not paint what was before them objectively, but instead focused on what they perceived the scenes to look like. Amongst new developments, photographic technology became a standard for realistic images, and thirty years down the road, it would become the most accurate way to capture a scene. The largest potential threat photography posed to the painters of the modern era, was that the camera was becoming more common and accessible to the public, who did not need years of instruction and discipline to operate. This new technology, that could capture scenes with unmatched detail from sculpture, paint, or drawing, forced the artists to change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Importance Of Speech On Fine Arts Art, music, and other fine art classes are always the first things to go when schools have a budget cut, however, these things are important and necessary for children. It's been proven that art not only to their creativity, but their academic achievements and advancements. On top of the academic and creative advantages, fine arts programs just mean a lot to some people. And it seems like the fine arts mean a lot to most students at Lewis Central High School. In my speech I'll be focusing mainly on the art program. Now I don't believe that our art program is at any risk of being cut, but I do believe that there are some issues that should be looked at, for example the lower classmen can take very few art classes, there are many outside art festivals and other opportunities that are not touched upon for those same lower classmen, and compared to other fine art programs the opportunities are minimal and the program itself is difficult to be apart of until later years of high school. I've been interested in art for as long as I can remember and recently, end of seventh grade to be exact, I decided to pursue it as a potential career, so I took as many art classes as I could. At the middle school, we were offered 1 art class a trimester and I was even lucky enough to be a teacher aide for Ms. Baker. I had the opportunity to enter contests and submit work to a festival, all in the span of one school year. Continuing with my first point of lower classmen have very few options when ... • 61. Analysis Of The Film 'Gibber Eidolon' Greetings from the Abyss. The name's Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences. The title of the film roughly translates to "Babbling Ghost." Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused chaos. Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years. This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I've been and the way I've responded to them, and the ideas I've had along the way. It is a work of spirit. The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I've been working with both on films and music for nearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Environmental Economics Exam Take–Home Exam Exercise 1 (a) If the emissions in the area are left unregulated then the two factories will emit as much as they can, which means there will be zero abatement (MAC=0). So we have: Factory A: MACA=0 4000–EA=0 EA=4000 Factory B: MACB=0 4000–4EB=0 EB=1000 For the socially optimal level of emissions we have: MACA=4000–EA EA=4000–MACA MACB=4000–4EB EB=1000–0,25MACB By adding the above by parts we get: E=5000–1,25MAC MAC=4000–0,8E The socially optimal level of emissions is where MAC equals MD, therefore: MAC=MD 4000–0,8E*=1,7E* 4000=2,5E* E*=1600 (b) First, we must find the excess demand for permits for each factory. In order to do this, we must assume 2 prices for each factory. Factory A: If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, we have: MAC=MD 360– 65 E = 0,3E* 360 = 310 E* + 1210 E* E*= 1015×360 E*=240 units. (b) In order for the two tanneries to be cost–efficient, two conditions need to be in force: EA+EB=E MACA=MACB So, we have: EA+EB=240 EA= 240–EB MACA=MACB 360–2EA=360–3EB 360–2(240– EB) =360– 3EB 5EB=480 EB=96 And EA= 240–EB EA= 240–96 EA=144 So, Firm A should emit EA=144 units and Firm B EB=96. For EA=144 we have: MACA=360–2(144) =360–288=72 So: TACA=180–144×722=25922=1296
  • 64. For EB=96 we have: MACB=360–3(96) =360–288=72 So: TACB=120–96×722=17282=864 (c) Since, the government sets an emission tax, in order to find the units that each firm will be willing to emit under this tax we set MAC=tax, because each tannery will choose to emit until its MAC becomes equal to the tax. So, we have: Tannery A will emit: MACA=66 360– 2EA=66 2EA=294 EA=147 units Tannery B will emit: MACB=66 360 –3EB=66 3EB=294 EB=98 units Under this policy of taxing we have: For tannery A the cost of compliance is: TCA=TACA+(t×EA) TACA=12×180–14766$=1089$ So: ... The teacher at that point provides an example by shaking the can, leaning down and sprays the paint on black paper. The teacher also says "when you spray to make sure you are at a distance where the paint is not wasted". Once all of the instructions are explained and examples are provided students are given the opportunity to finish setting up their work area. As soon as all workspaces are set up the students start to turn in their note card with the rules to the teacher in return for a can of spray paint. When the students start spray painting their project the teacher frequently reminds the students of the safety rules. The students also reminded each other the safety rules "remember to walk around". For the duration of the activity 18 out of 20 students are working on spraying their projects. The teacher walks from one student work area to another checking to see if all of the students have their gloves and masks on. • 68. Art Reflection When I found out the first paper assignment was going to look at the SIUE art show, I was intrigued. I have only been to one other art exhibit in my life and it was in Washington D.C. I did not have as high of expectations for the SIUE show as I did for the one in D.C., but I do enjoy looking at art so I was excited. It was a slightly different experience than my D.C adventure, but still interesting. There was not as many people and it was quieter. I liked this setting better because I was able to focus more on understanding and interpreting the art. Going into it, I figured most of the art would be either paintings on canvas or sculptures. When I arrived at the show I was proved wrong. There were sculptures and paintings of course, but there was also a handful of photographs and other outside materials being used to portray a deeper meaning through art. All of the pieces I looked at portrayed such a deeper meaning than the one perceived at first glance; I had to really think about the pieces to understand them. I did enjoy going and looking at the art because I love seeing the different and creative ways people can express themselves. I was also impressed by the use of all the different materials other than paint and canvas. I do love looking and learning about the meaning of an art piece, but there also were some pieces that i found confusing. However, after looking at the pieces and reading the titles, I found a deeper meaning in the pieces I did enjoy. Walking into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Let 's Dish Is It A Store Or A Restaurant? Essay Let's Dish Is it a store or a restaurant? Peering through the large picture windows you would see nine separate, industrial, kitchen stations; one thing is missing though, there are no ovens. At each station there are two recipes with directions displayed and all the necessary ingredients are enclosed in the fridge's compartments. Measuring utensils are color coated and each color symbolizes a particular measurement. The main ingredients receive a color–coated utensil and this eliminates some of the measuring confusion. The stores are decorated in a bright orange paint with blue accent through out the store. Bright, green aprons and colorful bandanas are a must for all customers while dishing in the store. Let's Dish is a store that provides a service of convenient meal preparation at an affordable price. Dishing is a delicious way to prepare healthy, homemade dinners in no time. Three services are offered at varying price points. Monthly the menu changes and it offers a variety of meal choices. There are 18 meals and one monthly dessert to select from which includes selections of poultry, beef, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Special accommodations can be made such as gluten free, vegetarian, no salt added or exclude other ingredients from the recipe. A customer can choose to make 4, 8 or 12 meals at a time. • 72. Jeff Kons Vs Duchamp Jeff Koons builds on the Duchampian tradition of ready–made materials in the production of art. Koons brings the art objects out of mainstream culture and pushes them to their ultimate limit, compared to the ordinary and frequently mass produced objects that Marcel Duchamp reimagined as art objects such as the bicycle wheel and the urinal. For Duchamp however, this act was one of supreme skepticism. As the New York Review of Books art critic Jed Perl explains in his critique of Jeff Koons' Whitney Museum Retrospective "The Cult of Jeff Koons," Duchamp differs from Koons in that Duchamp's production of ready–made objects was a result of a need for art to become understood on a deeper level by questioning its function in the sphere of history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When one compares Duchamp's process of producing these objects to Koons, it is easy to view Koons as an adaptation of that theory, yet an adaptation that almost carelessly and haphazardly capitalizes on the art world's increasingly confused worship of artists like Duchamp, Rauschenberg and Warhol. In observing this group of artists, we begin to see a neatly unfolding chronology that places Duchamp at the top whom subsequently influences Rauschenberg and Johns who then propagate the emergence of Warhol who then directly begets Koons. These artists both criticize and celebrate commercial culture making it the subject of their work. It is Koons however, who emerged to artistic prominence in an era of extreme media saturation, and therefore presents a body of work that capitalizes on commercial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Creating A Form Of Art Essay A 2013 survey found that eight out of ten Americans are overly stressed about their jobs or schooling. Three out of five Americans cope with their stress in unhealthy ways such as overeating, drinking, smoking, or ignoring their stress altogether (Corinthian). Creating a form of art is is one of the most effective methods to relieve stress. The concept of using art as a form of managing stress has been around throughout all of history. However, art therapy was not a distinct profession until the 1940's. Creating art is not only effective in managing stress, but also helps us safely identify, alleviate, and communicate our pent up emotions. Art allows you to take a moment to yourself and forget about your day to day problems. We tend to learn more about ourselves while creating art, "gaining greater self–knowledge can help us identify why and when we are stressed giving us the capacity to remove stressors or find ways of supporting ourselves when in stressful situations" (Willieme). Every form of art encourages creative thinking and problem solving skills, allowing you to come up with your own solutions since there are no right or wrong answers in art. The benefits of art aren't limited to emotions, there are physical benefits to creating art as well. "The average person has 60,000 thoughts per day and 95% of them are exactly the same" (Alban). Creating art allows you to focus on a single activity and clear your everyday thoughts due to the "rhythmic and repetitive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. How Does Art Understand Mental Illness? Throughout history, art has been put to the back burner, People nowadays use art to relieve stress, calm down the side effects of mental disorders, and also spread awareness on many mental disorders amongst others. Art has been proven to help people understand mental illnesses more than what we used to. Art has been underestimated for many years. It has been shut down, put out of schools, and many other things. Art has opened eyes to the true reality of mental illnesses amongst other things. Throughout the years people, have been taught to look at people differently if they do not share the same ideas and thoughts as them. People who have mental disorders will never have the same ideas and thoughts as anyone else in the world. Art has been used to show people what is really going on in a persons mind when they have a mental disorder. A man named Christian did a photography project that showed what it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some think that if someone is mentally ill, they do not produce as good of work as someone who has a perfectly normal mental state. Some also think that in the art world, someone who is mentally ill can produce something that will personally challenge the minds of the viewer if they knew that the person who made the art piece was mentally ill. Art should be more valued if the public knows the artist struggled to finish the piece because of their minds being in a different state than their body? Art has made mental illness more open and common through the stories behind their creators. For example, when people found out that Van Gogh was crazy enough to cut off his own ear because he did not think that it belonged to him. He thought it was a foreign object on his body. They then started to value his artwork even more, especially his ever so famous self–portrait. Art has also been able to help people understand that they can use turn their illness into something ...
