  3. 3. RMS Olympic <ul><li>The RMS Olympic is the RMS Titanic ’s sister ship; the Titanic was modeled after her. </li></ul><ul><li>The Olympic received a signal saying the Titanic was in distress, but was 500 miles away, and therefore too far to help. </li></ul>

Passengers on the RMS Titanic <ul><li>First class tickets could cost up to $4,350 per ticket – which would cost $95,860 today! </li></ul><ul><li>There were approximately 329 first class passengers, 285 second class passengers, 710 third class passengers and 899 crew members aboard the Titanic. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Mistakes of the RMS Titanic Crew <ul><li>The Titanic only held 20 lifeboats, however, the Titanic was built to hold enough lifeboats to save the lives of everyone on board. </li></ul><ul><li>Some believe that the ship was going to fast in an area where icebergs are expected. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Sinking of the RMS Titanic <ul><li>Approximately 1,520 people lost their lives in the shipwreck. </li></ul><ul><li>The SS Mount Temple received the distress signal and could have saved many lives...had the Titanic been in the location sent to other ships. </li></ul> Painted by W. Pearson

Factors that may have affected the wreck <ul><li>The metal of the ship becomes very brittle in cold water, making injury to it more likely. </li></ul><ul><li>The main engine had been shut off to avoid the iceberg, making the ship harder to turn. </li></ul><ul><li>The sea was very calm, so there were no waves hitting the iceberg to signal it was there. </li></ul>

The aftermath of the RMS Titanic <ul><li>Many charities were set up to help the families; The majority of the deceased were men and the families still needed an income (women were mostly housewives). </li></ul><ul><li>Safety regulations definitely changed – enough life boats for everyone on board! </li></ul>
  9. 9. RMS Carpathia <ul><li>The RMS Carpathia is the ship that arrived first on the scene after the Titanic had sunk. </li></ul><ul><li>The Carpathia picked up the life boats, and had a service onboard for the lost lives. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Titanic: The Movie (1997) <ul><li>The movie is a love story of two fictional characters with some real events and characters. </li></ul><ul><li>There is real footage of the sunken Titanic. </li></ul>
