Factors that may have affected the wreck <ul><li>The metal of the ship becomes very brittle in cold water, making injury to it more likely. </li></ul><ul><li>The main engine had been shut off to avoid the iceberg, making the ship harder to turn. </li></ul><ul><li>The sea was very calm, so there were no waves hitting the iceberg to signal it was there. </li></ul>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Titanic
