1 min (Jim)BRING an iPad on stage to contrast against a bag filled with manila folders and files
2 mins (Jim)Starting a little bit backwards from the typical People & Process then technology selection, we had the iPad as the delivery mechanism and worked requirements towards that.
2 mins transition slide - (Freeland)Introduces the problems Medtronic and many other companies face at this very high level
So as Jason and John mentioned Fishbowl has experience extending webcenter content and portal to mobile devices in a variety of ways. As we’ve engaged with customers around their mobile needs over the past several years we’ve seen similar needs come up multiple times. Companies want an easy way to allow sales reps and other knowledge workers to access, sync, and share content from WebCenter from an iPad. This is why we created the quick start. This software and services bundle allows you to take advantage of a ready-built app, customized to your team’s branding, navigation and content sorting needs, and deployed in less than a month.
The Fishbowl iPad app for WebCenter is a native iOS iPad Application. From this application you can search and browse for any content in webcenter. The application requires users to login with their webcenter username and password so they can only see the information they should have access to. Better performance than html.sdf
The skinning and UI integtration becomes custom GUI development. You have to add in full development methodology for concept, prototype, signoff. Usually several cycles, each taking a week or two.
There are five primary screens for the application. The buttons or search box in the primary top nav section will take the user to the appropriate screen.
Mirrors online library
Global search allows the user to search for a keyword in the metadata. Search results will be displayed in a grid layout format, with locally cached assets highlighted in the grid layout. Assets will have the same long touch behavior as those found in the search results based on whether you’re searchling local or online content.
The application includes a local folder structure. By default a favorites folder is included with the application. Users may create as many additional folders and subfolders as desired. Folders can contain any content that is available from the app and items can be added to multiple folders. Item can be added to folders from either the Online or Local view. When a user long-presses the item, a “Store to Folder” option will appear and the user can select the folder to add to. The folder view uses the same left nav as the Local and Online content libraries, but in this case, each node represents the content of a local folder. Content items are displayed in the document grid view and any child folders are displayed below the parent folder. Users can create or delete local their folder structure. An “Add Folder” button is present at the bottom of the left nav from the Folder view. Touching that button from the Folder View Landing Page prompts the user to enter a folder name and creates a new top-level folder. Touching the “Add Folder” button from any other location creates the new folder as a child of the active folder. Any items contained in folders will automatically be included in the local content library and will be available offline. These items will be updated each time the app syncs. Users can also remove items from folders by long-pressing the item from the folder view.
Assuming an asset has the taxonomy that permits distribution via email, an item can be added to a cart for distribution on a download server. The user can long press “Email Document” in either online, local, or folder view assets and add them to a cart. An indicator will identify how many assets are currently in the cart. The user can manually enter recipients or use the tablet’s native contact list to identify who should be sent a download notification link for the assets selected. The download server will confirm the requester has security permission to view the document before they can allow others to download the file. After sending the request, all users and items will clear from the email cart.
Navigation Structure dynamicStored in content server as HCSTCan have as many menu items and nested sub menus as you wantBacked by Simple Metadata QueriesThe left navigation displays content items based on a folder metaphor. Each node in the navigation structure corresponds to a virtual folder of content. Each “folder” implies associated metadata. As a folder is selected in the left navigation, results will limit the items returned based on matches to that folder. The navigation menu will follow a three-level navigation pattern: the as a user selects a folder, the previous parent folder will be displayed as a breadcrumb to navigate backwards, and the children folder options will also be listed below the current folder. If there are more children folders than the screen can display, the list will become scrollable. The home button will always return the user to the root folder that has no filters applied. Clicking the home button will also reset the three-level folder navigation to the original view.
On left sample folder concept. This would be driven by metadata fields in webcenter – typically pick lists – for industry, target account, content type, etc.
video file cannot be encrypted - there is a performance issue with it as wellmetadata drives content dissemination, restrictions on delivery, and local storage.
The settings page contains switches to show and hide content by language and other configured metadata fields such as Industry, Product Line, or Content Type. This is also were users can check what app version they are running and what user is logged in.
Help files are defined by metadata and automatically sync to the device. Help files can be html, video, images, or pdfs and can be viewed in the online viewer or with external apps.
Add to cart.
Online, local, and folders will have a unique default landing page displayed when no left navigation structures are selected. The landing pages are managed assets stored in the content repository and specified by a content identifier specified in the HCST file and will be uploaded to the tablet on synchronization events. The assets used as the landing page must be renderable by the default viewer, so there are more restrictions on what content types may be used. Landing pages will be unique for both Android and iOS layouts, requiring entries for all platforms used at the customer.HTML based content that includes an embedded hyperlink will launch the tablet’s web browser.
