Essay on A Hero
A Hero What is a hero? Is it a rock star or an athlete? A famous speaker or activist? Or is it someone so ordinary that does extraordinary things? A hero
can be someone who loves and cares for you, or someone you look up to. Someone that risks their life for others is definitely a hero, that someone is
Oskar Schindler. Oskar is a hero to over 6,000 Jews currently living across the United States and Europe. Schindler was an normal man with an unreal
power that he used to save 1200 human lives during the Holocaust of World War II. What was his motivation for saving so many Jews? More... Show

What would posses someone to use their power and money by risking their own life? How did he do it? It wasn't easy.
Schindler started saving Jews in 1939, when he came to Krakow during the German invasion. Looking for his own power in Krakow he opened up a
small enamel shop near the Jewish ghetto. He employed mainly Jewish workers, which saved them from being deported to Labour camps. In 1942
Schindler found out through some of his workers that many of the local Jews were being sent to the brutal Plazow labour camp. Schindler had
connections with the German government, which came in handy. He convinced the S.S. and the Armaments Administration to let Schindler set up a
portion of the camp in his factory. He then took the unfit and unqualified for work, which spared 900 Jewish lives.
In October of 1944 he approached the Russian army to receive permission to re–establish his once defunct business as an armament production
company in Bruunlitz. After negotiating with S.S. officials Schindler was allowed to take some Jews with him. He took 700 Jews from the
Grossrosen camp, and 300 women from Auschwitz. These workers were given the best food, clothing, shelter and medical care that Schindler could
afford. He then heard that a train of evacuated Jews from the Golezow camp were stranded nearby. Schindler once again pulled some

Oskar Schindler 's Death Of The Jewish Ghetto
Many words can be used to describe Oskar Schindler; partier, alcoholic, womanizer, etc, but the most unlikely word that can be used is savior, which
he proved to be in the 1940s. Schindler was definitely a sinner, but he did the unthinkable at the time, "He [Schindler] was no saint. And yet, the same
man would prove to have depths of courage and humanity rare at any time–even rarer during the time in which he lived." (Roberts, pg. 6). During the
grueling years of the Holocaust and World War II,Oskar Schindler proved that love and kindness still existed by rescuing over 1,000 Jewish
residents of Krakow, Poland. By doing this alone, the Nazis would have killed him because at that time, it was even illegal to be touching a Jew, let
alone saving them. One major factor that led to the saving of the Jews was the liquidation of the Krakow Jewish Ghetto, "Schindler witnessed a few
hours of beastiality with which the liquidation [of Krakow] was executed. The horror of what he saw undoubtedly played a role in his indignation and
his unfailing and compassion with the persecuted [Jews]." (Thompson. pg. 138). After the invasion of Poland, the Nazis set up several ghettos around
the country, one of which was in Krakow, where they held Jews. Eventually these ghettos didn't seem worthy of Adolph Hitler's "Final Solution" so
these ghettos were liquidated and thousands of it's residents were massacred and sent to concentration camps, Schindler experienced one of these
liquidations. Oskar

Review Of The Balcony Scene From The Movie Schindler's List
In the Balcony Scene from the movie Schindler's List a man named Amon Goeth, a cruel and committed Nazi soldier who runs a Nazi work camp, is
sitting on the balcony of his house which overlooks the workcamp he is in charge of and all of the Jews who are "workers" at the camp.
This scene conveys the smaller scale version of a much larger scale event and genocide. This scene depicts the overall systematic approach at a
genocide of the larger scale event of World War II.Human rights that were violated from this scene are; Article 5 which states that "no one shall be
subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment" this Act was violated in this scene because the punishment for small
things such as tying your shoe or taking a small rest after working all day would be death. Article 18 states that "everyone has the right to freedom of
thought, conscience and religion" this Act was violated because Jews were being treated unfairly because of their religious beliefs. Article 24 states
that "everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay" this Act was violated
because, in the work camps, Jews were overworked and underfed. Article 25 states that "everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the
health and well–being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services and the right to

Masks, Op. 40 Robert Muczynski Analysis
James Mick Dr. Kodanashvili MUS LIT 5200 Masks, Op. 40 By Robert Muczynski Muczynski is considered to by many to be one of America's
foremost composers of the last few decades, and while his music seems to be relatively frequently performed, and finds its way into many
competition performances throughout the world, it seems to be hardly discussed. I'll talk a little about Muczynski and his life, his overall body of
works, and then discuss and his Masks Op. 40 for solo piano. Robert was born to Irene and Stanley Muczynski on 19 March, 1929 , in Chicago,
Illinois. Generally speaking, there seems to be little information available about his early life. According to his obituary, Muczynski appears to have
graduated from the Chopin Elementary School in Chicago. However, most biographical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His Sonata for Flute and Piano (Top Prize at Concourse Internationale in Nice, France), as well as three piano trios. Muczynski's concerto for Alto
Saxophone and Orchestra also received a Pulitzer Prize nomination. He also has a number of orchestral works, Muczynski's own take on musical
composition can be gleaned from an article he wrote for American Composer Sketches, where he states that: "[while it is true that] music cannot
continue to exist in a vacuum of sameness and predictability, it is also true that music cannot yield to anarchy. Some people may consider it 'fun' to
hear a typewriter amplified to ear–splitting proportions over a P. A. system, but, really, it is all so cynical. What is so sad is that a number of
listeners are willing to endure the torture, finding this a fresh experience." In that article, he goes on to state that composing for a mass audience leads
only to failure, and that one cannot compose music that will please everyone. Muczynski's composition style seems rather unique. I believe Walter
Simmons details it quite succinctly in his article on Robert Muczynski from Grove Music

What Is Safety In Krakow
9.Safety in Krakow
Poland is generally safer than most European countries, east or west. And Krakow is safer than other major cities in Poland. Certainly, even without
asking for it one may get into trouble when in the wrong place in the wrong time and, above all, with the wrong people. Yet mere common sense plus
just elementary precautions should suffice to keep a visitor perfectly safe in Krakow. Unfortunately, pettycrime seems quite common in the city.
Whereas mugging remains sporadic, pilfering is rampant. Although foreign visitors most often fall victim to pickpockets, it is the less prevalent and
declining car theft that appears the worst plague in Poland, Krakow being no exception.
Two kinds of police force are seen on

When you think of Holocaust rescuers you might think of Oskar Schindler, Carl Lutz, Feng–Shan Ho, Raoul Wallenberg, etc. When you think of World

How Did Roman Polanski Survive The Holocaust?
Roman Polanski was famous for his film directing after he had survived the Holocaust. Over the years his motion pictures became more and more
noticed soon a very famous director, producer, writer, and actor (Roman Polanski). He did create very successful works and also has been overlooked
for his crimes. Although Roman Polanski survived the Holocaust and had become a very successful film director, he did deserve to be in jail for
decades.
Rajmund Roman Thierry Polanski was born on August 18, 1933 in Paris, France. His parents, Bula and Ryszard Polanski, a painter and manufacturer
of sculptures. His father was Polish–Jewish and his mother was Russian with some Jewish ancestry and raised as Roman Catholic but neither were
religious. Roman also had a sister, Annette, from his mother's previous marriage (Roman Polanski). The Polanski family had lived in France but

Then Roman was sent to live on a Polish farm with a peasant family. Finally, when it was all over he was reunited with his father in 1945, where they

The Role Of Power Among Characters In Schindler's List
As successful as hitler was at exterminating almost the entire population of Jews, Genghis Kahn was even more successful at exterminating large
populations. He killed millions of people himself, decimating 10% of the world's population, and back when he was the emperor, there was no
special technology such as gas chambers or tanks or cars or guns, him and his army had to kill people on foot and with swords/machetes. The
distribution of power among characters in Schindler's list varies, but ultimately those with the tanks and machine guns held the most power and
control. Although the Nazis held the most power over the Jews during the Holocaust, there were other groups of people who used their trivial powers to
save themselves and others.

I. Introduction. Schindler’S List Begins In Kraków, Poland
I. Introduction Schindler's List begins in KrakГіw, Poland during World War II. At this time, the Nazi Party was trying to cleanse the world of
"impure" people including Jews and rounded up all of the Jewish to make them work. In the movie, Oskar Schindler used Jews from the KrakГіw
ghetto to staff his factory instead of sending them to concentration camps. At first, he uses them only to make money, using bribery in order to get
workers. Eventually, he realizes he is saving them from harsh treatment elsewhere and continues to make sure they don't get sent to PlaszГіw. At the
end of the movie, Schindler creates a list of all the Jews he can afford to buy, around 1,100, and starts a munitions factory. The munitions they made did
not work, so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, Amon Goeth, the commandant of the PlaszГіw camp, sits on his balcony and shoots Jews with no reason to. During one of the early
scenes, a young girl yells, "Bye Jews, bye Jews!" as the Jewish are rounded up into the KrakГіw ghetto, showing that the hatred of the Jewish is learned
and accepted by both young and old. One person can convince many others that their way is the right way and the only way.
Another important point is that one person can change the world. It is really important to the film because Schindler was just one man and he alone,
with some help from Stern, saved so many lives. He could have saved one life and still made a difference, but he gave over one thousand people
another chance to live. Each life he saved is a life not lost to the horrors of the Holocaust. He did all he could possibly do and still didn't think it was
enough. During one scene in the movie, a young Nazi boy finds a girl he knows and her mother. He tells them to come with him and he'll put them in
the 'good' line. Even though he had to follow orders, he still tried to help them. Sometimes it only takes one person to change another's life for the better.
III. Importance of the Film
Schindler's List is based on the true story of Oskar Schindler. It is brutally honest and gives viewers an important insight on what actually occurred
during the Holocaust. Every time I watch a movie or video about the Holocaust, I

Christianity in Poland and the Church of St. Florian
Religion is a defining factor of what gave people a common identity; so in order to feel connected with one another, rulers would take it upon
themselves to unite their kingdoms and establish a universal religion. During the late middle ages Christianity was on the rise. It was widely accepted
and appealed mostly to women and slaves, but everyone had their benefits from the new religion. This change in religion was evident through artwork
at the time, and the construction of churches across Europe.
Though Mieszko wasn't ever formally crowned king, for he ruled as a duke, he was one of the best political, and military leader for his country. He
assumed power from his father, SiemomysЕ‚, in 964 at age 30 (Info–Poland). He immediately followed in some of the most successful countries'
footprints in building up the military and a strong governing system. With his newly developed military, he would go on conquests to gain territory
and expand his nation. He was a very triumphant leader like this and was quick to make political decisions too. He set up his alliances with other
nations, as well. Surprisingly, his own marriage was a political move. In 965 he married Dobrawa, a Czech princess, to secure the coalition with her
people and move to becoming establishing a better name for his country (Pulska).
The first major step for Poland's conversion to Christianity was when Mieszko was baptized in 966. Jordan of Liege, who later became Poland's first

Krakow Research Paper
Only a few miles from Poland's second largest cities, Krakow, lies a nearly barren field with only a moderate sized memorial to the thousands of people
killed in a brutal act of genocide. Here, between 1941 and 1945, thousands of enemies of the Nazi party, primarily Jews, were worked, starved, died of
disease, or were shot. Out of the over 150,000 people sent through Plaszow and its sub–camps, only around 2,000 survived. From its establishment in
1941 to its liquidation in January 1945, thousands of people lost their lives or were sent to their deaths in other camps. In the years before the
German occupation, the Jewish population of Krakow was usually around 70,000. After the Nazi conquest, the Jews were persecuted relentlessly.
Between May and December of 1941, 55,000 Krakow Jews were forced into the countryside, and between 15,000 and 20,000 remaining Jews were
housed in the newly established Krakow Ghetto. In June of the same year, the Krakow–Plaszow Forced Labor camp was established in Plaszow, a

partially due to the basic state of the camp, with a very low amount of food given to the prisoners and diseases such as typhus commonly spreading,

Study of Dosso Dossi's Jupiter, Mercury and Virtue Essay
Study of Dosso Dossi's Jupiter, Mercury and Virtue
Dosso Dossi (c.1486–1542) was a Renaissance painter from the city of Ferrara in Northern Italy. Collaborating with his brother Battista, Dosso created
some of the most groundbreaking yet baffling works for the dukes of Ferrara. Dosso's paintings, however, remained largely unheard of apart from
occasional appearances in academic journals, until a series of traveling exhibitions in 1999 brought the artist back in attention. Heavily influenced by
High Renaissance masters Leonardo and Michelangelo, as well as by Venetian painters, Dosso adopted a rich yet still subtle colour palette. What set
him apart from his peers, on the other hand, were his atmospheric and "impressionistic" landscape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effect is particularly striking on Virtue's shortened right arm, which alludes to the space beyond the principal plane.
Above all, the most distinctive feature in Dosso's painting is its imaginative treatment of mythological subjects. As indicated by a good number of art
historians, Virtue, here personified as a goddess, turns out to have been mistreated and abused by Fortune and her companions. Virtue's friends, who
were unable to protect her and thus fled, left her to be "beaten, stripped bare, and dragged through the mud" (Fiorenza, 152) by Fortune and her fellow
bullies. Immediately following Virtue's mistreatment is the scene depicted on canvas: Virtue comes to Jupiter to inform him of Fortune's crime, when
she is given the trivial excuse that the gods are busy making sure that the butterflies have beautifully painted wings.
Amusingly, this brief background story is practically the only part that the art historians agreed upon. Early interpretations include a complicated love
story between Mercury and Virtue, as well as the possible allusion that Jupiter is in fact a portrait of Duke Alfonso I d'Este, the commissioner of the
painting. (Fiorenza, 29) Some even suggested the painting was created to celebrate the artist's

Identification Szymborska
The endless altering matters of society remain controversial among its many spectators; nevertheless, Wislawa Szymborska views these matters as
vacuous dictations. Szymborska confronts her perspective of society through her recurrent theme of mockery and wit, in which cultivates a comical
aspect of her poetry. The comical aspects throughout some of Szymborska's poetry exploits the changing standards of society, the dictation that society
places on an individual, the false sense of comfort that is provided by society, and the true state of oblivion that society resides in. This scrutinization of
society remains within an underlying tone of ridicule and aversion, which is conveyed through Szymborska's a vast amount of devices, such as
juxtaposition,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This state of denial can be prominently depicted within Szymborska's poem, "Identification." The poem presents a chronological experience of a
woman's developing emotions as she rejects the fact that her husband had past away. The false sense of security resides within this poem, as the
repetition of "it's good you came," presumably attempts to formulate a positive motif throughout the morbid poem(1, 17, 23). The comfort of others
conceals the genuine emotion of loneliness, as the death of a loved one creates a false sense of reality; therefore, the constant reminder that
someone else was with the recipient of the bad news, reminds them that they are not completely alone in the world. Furthermore, the sense of denial
is continued through the hope of objects just being ordinary, such as, " a scrap of shirt, a watch, [and] a wedding ring." Szymborska uses this
asyndeton in order to create a sense of irony, as the objects become more specific as the "names on that ring" (10); nevertheless, this creates a false
sense of comfort for the aspect that anyone could own these objects, in which portrays the yearning for a confirmation that the speaker's loved one was
not affiliated with this tragedy. Szymborska's use of the euphemism, "rubber sleeping bag," facilitates the endeavor to maintain the attempted positive
motif, despite the "rubber sleeping bag" referring to a body bag (24). The body bag provides a false sense of a lighthearted connotation of a "sleeping
bag" to being the cruel reality of death. Throughout "Identification," Szymborska mocks the oblivion and denial of the woman despite the morbid
context of the poem. Through this method Szymborska further implies that one should face reality. Precisely as society should not be dictated without
truly analyzing the true intention of

Oskar Schindler Movie Analysis
Oskar Schindler wasn't always a nice man. It took him a long time to adapt into the man he was at the end of the movie. At the beginning of the
movie. He was a perpetrator. Just like any other Nazi, he would treat the Jews like slaves. At first, he used the Jews to make a big fortune. He knew
about the Jewish black market, and knew that they had items that could not be found locally during the time of the war. He got items for himself
through the black market, and even bought or took some items to resell at a higher price. Although this was bad, it was the least of his crimes. Oskar
would use Jews in his factory. He did not pay them, and they worked countless hours getting as much material out the door as possible. His
factories would make materials that were sure to be used. Since war was going on, Schindler knew that making war supplies would be the best
option for making lot's of money. So, his slaves went to work. And, as they starved and sweat, he got rich and sipped expensive wine. He did not
let just any Jew work for him. His workers were the best working Jews available. In fact, there was one time that a worker was not up to par with
what Oskar expected, and he got very angry. This is to show that not just any Jew could come into his factory and work. He made sure that the Jews
on his floor would be the ones to make him the most money possible. He did not care about the lives of his workers, he cared about his wealth.
Towards the middle of the movie, Oskar sees how

complete access to his workers but really to get them away from the commandant's impulsive violence. Goeth and different Nazis knew Schindler's
intentions and were practically entertained by his activities. They considered him a sufficient individual who'd been hit with a type of Jew love.
Schindler made the Emalia camp as much unlike a labor camp as he could. He kept the Nazi guards out of the factory and living quarters, spent
$360,000 on food for the prisoners, and used bribery and other chicanery to get more Jews out of Plaszow and into Emalia. The prisoners considered it

Approximately 72% of persons with Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) report experiencing traumatic nightmares (Casement & Swanson, 2012).
Traumatic nightmares are an intrusive symptom of Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can negatively impact persons experiencing
symptoms after experiencing, either directly or indirectly, a traumatic experience (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Given the large proportion
of persons with PTSD who experience traumatic nightmares, it behooves social workers to be aware of interventions which can benefit persons
experiencing traumatic nightmares. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy is one intervention which could help practitioners who are working with persons who

Similar to confrontation, Step 2 of IRT involves psychoeducation about the nature of nightmares and how imagery and practicing pleasant imagery can
positively benefit nightmares. Krakow and Zadra (2006) explain that understanding imagery and its impact on nightmares can help to change the
relationship which exists between the person and the trauma–related nightmare. In addition to psychoeducation, the client works to change the end of
the nightmare which will be used in imagery rehearsal; the ending does not have to be realistic and should not include an increase in violence (Pagel et
al., 2014). Through psychoeducation and writing down a new ending for their trauma–related nightmare, Step 2 of IRT helps the client begin to
distance themselves from their nightmares, thus beginning the process of lessening distress from

Schindler Motives
The quote from Talmud: "Whoever saves one life saves an entire world" in my interpretation means that each individual is a representation of
humanity. That every life counts. The fact that Schindler originally hired the Krakow Jews for profit doesn't detract from his efforts to save them,
originally Schindler's motives were purely selfish he wanted to save them so he could keep his factory going and obtain wealth. As film progresses
we can clearly see that Schindler's motives have shifted, which I believe the shift was caused by Schindler witnessing the girl in red coat being
brutalized, though she was innocent. We can see that he becomes more compassionate, and less self–serving as his main priority becomes to save the

historical events. He did get a college education, but he later went on to learn more about history and he later ended up writing one of his most

Is The Holocaust Over The Children Of The World?
Is the Holocaust over for the children of the world? The Holocaust was a dark time in human history during the reign of Hitler. Millions of Jews
were killed by the Nazis. However, some people were still lucky enough to survive. One of these survivors, Leon Leyson, experienced the horrors
of pure evil as a child. He lived to share his story, and today in America there are many programs and organizations dedicated to protecting children,
but in other parts of the world children continue to experience the horror of war. World War II began a year after Leon and his family moved to
Krakow. On September 1, 1939, the German army launched the first Blitzkrieg across the Polish border. The Luftwaffe sent bombers and fighters to

By the summer of 1943, the German army was retreating to Poland. The city of Lublin fell, and Warsaw fell afterwards. Unfortunately, the Poles
discovered that their "liberation" only meant that the Nazis were replaced by the Soviets. When Leon was preparing to travel to Krakow, he was
unaware of the horrible events that were coming. His father, a craftsman, needed to move to the city to continue his work. There were whispers of
danger, but what could happen to them in the big city of Krakow? A year later, the Nazis invaded Poland. The Jews of Krakow were forced to live
in a ghetto. Leon spent most of his time hunting for food. His father, Morris, was one of the few people allowed to leave the ghetto to work in a
factory owned by Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who ended up saving hundreds of Jews. Morris's employment outside of the ghetto
allowed him to sneak scraps of food for his family. He also arranged for his wife and children to get a job at Schindler's factory. In the factory, Leon
worked twelve hour shifts. The boy had to stand on a wooden box just to reach the controls of the machine he was working at. Sometimes, Schindler
would leave him extra food rations for his hard work. Towards the end of the war, Schindler continued to support the Leyson family. Working for

The Holocaust is often considered one of the darkest and most heinous periods in modern history, however there are numerous accounts of heroism
and selfless charity to emerge from the ashes. Despite the Nazi regime's stranglehold on European affairs during a large part of the second world war,
their radical and racially charged agenda was not universally accepted amongst German citizens and Nazi officials. The fear of strict punishment at the
hands of the SS squashed popular outcry over the atrocities, but it did not stop the heroic acts of a few compassionate and unassuming individuals. One
such hero is Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who spearheaded an effort to protect his Jewish factory workers from the uncertain fate of the ...

The Hunger Games: A Thematic Analysis
Films and novels have seen many interpretations of society throughout the years. Whether that may be as a post apocalyptic society in The Hunger
Games or as an advanced utopia in Back to the Future Part II, any type of civilization you can imagine has been brought to life on the big screen or
written in pages. There is however an idea in these societies that has been incorporated into most, if not all stories: the idea that this society is not as
perfect as it seems and may in reality, be holding society back.
The society may be represented as pure, holy, and beneficial to all who take part in it, but as the stories move on and symbolism (such as color) becomes
more and more important, we realize that this society is flawed and is actually hurting it's people. The system may be helping those who created it, but
it's lower citizens become more and more hopeless until they accept their lives in this society. This is a trope that has been repeated many times in
literature and cinema. But throughout this bleak and hopeless society, the creators of these stories incorporate a protagonist who in their own moment
of eureka, break free of the shackles brought on by their society and ultimately, inspire hope and life to others.
There are two notable instances of this ideology being presented: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

corrupt societies who may not seem as perfect as they seem, which is certainly relevant today. But if the creators of these works truly believe in their
messages of passion and energy, than maybe we too as a society can see the color red and escape this black and white

Oskar Schindler Argumentative Essay
Over 11 million people died in the holocaust, and more than 7 million of them were Jewish. Oskar Schindler was an entrepreneur who sacrificed
himself for a cause he believed was unjust. He spent most of his life around Germany in Europe. During the Holocaust, he saved over 1,200 people
from the gas chambers. There are some people who don't think of him as a hero, but as a man looking to make an easy dollar. In my opinion Oskar
Schindler was a hero of the highest class and deserves all the credit he received for his actions. When Oskar was born in 1908, no one could've
guessed he would have such an impact on the world.
When Oskar was a young boy, he adored his father and strived to be like him. His Father and Mother were both German, even though he was born
in Zwittau, Hungary. His Father, Johann, owned a farm machinery business that Oskar eventually worked at. He had one sister, named Elfriede,
who was seven years younger than him. After Oskar attended primary and secondary school, he enrolled in a technical school. He was expelled
from the school in 1924 for forging his report card. After later graduating from a different school, he worked for his father for several years. In 1928,

problem with that theory is that Schindler all though very profitable spent nearly all of his profits bribing Nazi officers so they would let his Jews

A Change in the Eyes That See Reality As the rain gushed from the ominous clouds above my head, I stared at the short, brick building looming in

Domed roofs and complex architecture surrounded me and I gazed in wonder at the building behind me. The cotton candy clouds above me revealed
peeks of the bright blue sky. However, the majestic buildings surrounding me were in stark contrast to the depressing buildings of Auschwitz. The walls

permanent aroma. Contributing to that fact, we shuffled along shoulder to shoulder and the glass–fronted cabinets enclosed old basket, dirty shoes with

To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not
a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and
rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon
Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow.
However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a significant impact on how good and evil is
portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi
regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat,
making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler
identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass
around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The

Oskar Schindler 's Good Deeds Essay
There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler's actions helped save many Jews during the Holocaust. His acts of bravery allowed many Jews to survive the
Nazi regime and bring forth a new generation of Jews. We understand the outcome of Oskar Schindler's good deeds, but do we truly understand the
motives of his actions? What made a German industrialist so brave and devoted to saving the lives of the persecuted? Did Oskar Schindler see right
through the Nazi facade and see the evils and atrocities it committed? In order for us to truly understand Mr. Schindler's true motives, we have to see
his life through the whole spectrum, from beginning to end. We have to observe Oskar Schindler's upbringing, his activities before the Holocaust, his
actions during the Holocaust, and his place in history after the Holocaust. Only when we have studied this man's life in it's fullest can we truly
come to some understanding of why he was so motivated to do so much good and help the Jewish people and also where he found the courage to
stand up to the evils of Hitler and the Nazi regime. That is the purpose of this investigation. However, before we begin to emerge ourselves in the
life of Oskar Schindler we have to begin with the lives of two pivotal figures in Oskar's life, Franziska Luser and Hans Schindler. Hans Schindler,
father of Oskar Schindler, was a farm–equipment manufacturer and Franziska Luser, mother of Oskar Schindler, was a homemaker. On 28 April 1908,

Essay On A Hero

  • 1. Essay on A Hero A Hero What is a hero? Is it a rock star or an athlete? A famous speaker or activist? Or is it someone so ordinary that does extraordinary things? A hero can be someone who loves and cares for you, or someone you look up to. Someone that risks their life for others is definitely a hero, that someone is Oskar Schindler. Oskar is a hero to over 6,000 Jews currently living across the United States and Europe. Schindler was an normal man with an unreal power that he used to save 1200 human lives during the Holocaust of World War II. What was his motivation for saving so many Jews? More... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What would posses someone to use their power and money by risking their own life? How did he do it? It wasn't easy. Schindler started saving Jews in 1939, when he came to Krakow during the German invasion. Looking for his own power in Krakow he opened up a small enamel shop near the Jewish ghetto. He employed mainly Jewish workers, which saved them from being deported to Labour camps. In 1942 Schindler found out through some of his workers that many of the local Jews were being sent to the brutal Plazow labour camp. Schindler had connections with the German government, which came in handy. He convinced the S.S. and the Armaments Administration to let Schindler set up a portion of the camp in his factory. He then took the unfit and unqualified for work, which spared 900 Jewish lives. In October of 1944 he approached the Russian army to receive permission to re–establish his once defunct business as an armament production company in Bruunlitz. After negotiating with S.S. officials Schindler was allowed to take some Jews with him. He took 700 Jews from the Grossrosen camp, and 300 women from Auschwitz. These workers were given the best food, clothing, shelter and medical care that Schindler could afford. He then heard that a train of evacuated Jews from the Golezow camp were stranded nearby. Schindler once again pulled some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Oskar Schindler 's Death Of The Jewish Ghetto Many words can be used to describe Oskar Schindler; partier, alcoholic, womanizer, etc, but the most unlikely word that can be used is savior, which he proved to be in the 1940s. Schindler was definitely a sinner, but he did the unthinkable at the time, "He [Schindler] was no saint. And yet, the same man would prove to have depths of courage and humanity rare at any time–even rarer during the time in which he lived." (Roberts, pg. 6). During the grueling years of the Holocaust and World War II,Oskar Schindler proved that love and kindness still existed by rescuing over 1,000 Jewish residents of Krakow, Poland. By doing this alone, the Nazis would have killed him because at that time, it was even illegal to be touching a Jew, let alone saving them. One major factor that led to the saving of the Jews was the liquidation of the Krakow Jewish Ghetto, "Schindler witnessed a few hours of beastiality with which the liquidation [of Krakow] was executed. The horror of what he saw undoubtedly played a role in his indignation and his unfailing and compassion with the persecuted [Jews]." (Thompson. pg. 138). After the invasion of Poland, the Nazis set up several ghettos around the country, one of which was in Krakow, where they held Jews. Eventually these ghettos didn't seem worthy of Adolph Hitler's "Final Solution" so these ghettos were liquidated and thousands of it's residents were massacred and sent to concentration camps, Schindler experienced one of these liquidations. • 3. Review Of The Balcony Scene From The Movie Schindler's List In the Balcony Scene from the movie Schindler's List a man named Amon Goeth, a cruel and committed Nazi soldier who runs a Nazi work camp, is sitting on the balcony of his house which overlooks the workcamp he is in charge of and all of the Jews who are "workers" at the camp. This scene conveys the smaller scale version of a much larger scale event and genocide. This scene depicts the overall systematic approach at a genocide of the larger scale event of World War II.Human rights that were violated from this scene are; Article 5 which states that "no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment" this Act was violated in this scene because the punishment for small things such as tying your shoe or taking a small rest after working all day would be death. Article 18 states that "everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion" this Act was violated because Jews were being treated unfairly because of their religious beliefs. Article 24 states that "everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay" this Act was violated because, in the work camps, Jews were overworked and underfed. Article 25 states that "everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well–being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services and the right to security in the ... • 4. Masks, Op. 40 Robert Muczynski Analysis James Mick Dr. Kodanashvili MUS LIT 5200 Masks, Op. 40 By Robert Muczynski Muczynski is considered to by many to be one of America's foremost composers of the last few decades, and while his music seems to be relatively frequently performed, and finds its way into many competition performances throughout the world, it seems to be hardly discussed. I'll talk a little about Muczynski and his life, his overall body of works, and then discuss and his Masks Op. 40 for solo piano. Robert was born to Irene and Stanley Muczynski on 19 March, 1929 , in Chicago, Illinois. Generally speaking, there seems to be little information available about his early life. According to his obituary, Muczynski appears to have graduated from the Chopin Elementary School in Chicago. However, most biographical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His Sonata for Flute and Piano (Top Prize at Concourse Internationale in Nice, France), as well as three piano trios. Muczynski's concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra also received a Pulitzer Prize nomination. He also has a number of orchestral works, Muczynski's own take on musical composition can be gleaned from an article he wrote for American Composer Sketches, where he states that: "[while it is true that] music cannot continue to exist in a vacuum of sameness and predictability, it is also true that music cannot yield to anarchy. Some people may consider it 'fun' to hear a typewriter amplified to ear–splitting proportions over a P. A. system, but, really, it is all so cynical. What is so sad is that a number of listeners are willing to endure the torture, finding this a fresh experience." In that article, he goes on to state that composing for a mass audience leads only to failure, and that one cannot compose music that will please everyone. Muczynski's composition style seems rather unique. I believe Walter Simmons details it quite succinctly in his article on Robert Muczynski from Grove Music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is Safety In Krakow 9.Safety in Krakow Poland is generally safer than most European countries, east or west. And Krakow is safer than other major cities in Poland. Certainly, even without asking for it one may get into trouble when in the wrong place in the wrong time and, above all, with the wrong people. Yet mere common sense plus just elementary precautions should suffice to keep a visitor perfectly safe in Krakow. Unfortunately, pettycrime seems quite common in the city. Whereas mugging remains sporadic, pilfering is rampant. Although foreign visitors most often fall victim to pickpockets, it is the less prevalent and declining car theft that appears the worst plague in Poland, Krakow being no exception. Two kinds of police force are seen on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the Holocaust got worse his protection of his workers became very important. Schindler helped a lot through bribes and personal friendships with the government to help the Jews not get threatened everyday and to make sure that the SS doesn't report them. His business helped him "draw" on Jews that were under the power of the Gestapo. Schindler kept his promises to his "Schindlerjuden" and treated them like his own children. He didn't even care about money any more. He only cared about his workers. He was ok with losing all of his money and putting his life at risk everyday. ("Oskar Schindler." From 22 September 1940, he was an Auschwitz concentration camp prisoner. WЕ‚adysЕ‚aw had to go through many things during his time at Auschwitz. "In Auschwitz, prisoners lived in old brick barracks. Several hundred three–tier wooden bunk beds were installed in each building. The overcrowding in Auschwitz I forced basements and lofts into use as living quarters, as well." one man put it. "The second type of accommodation for prisoners at Birkenau consisted of wooden stable–barracks. The interiors, designed to hold 52 horses, were partitioned into stalls. The stalls contained three–tier wooden bunks. Several hundred prisoners lived in each such barrack." He killed millions of people himself, decimating 10% of the world's population, and back when he was the emperor, there was no special technology such as gas chambers or tanks or cars or guns, him and his army had to kill people on foot and with swords/machetes. The distribution of power among characters in Schindler's list varies, but ultimately those with the tanks and machine guns held the most power and control. Although the Nazis held the most power over the Jews during the Holocaust, there were other groups of people who used their trivial powers to save themselves and others. Itzhak ... • 11. I. Introduction. Schindler’S List Begins In KrakГіw, Poland I. Introduction Schindler's List begins in KrakГіw, Poland during World War II. At this time, the Nazi Party was trying to cleanse the world of "impure" people including Jews and rounded up all of the Jewish to make them work. In the movie, Oskar Schindler used Jews from the KrakГіw ghetto to staff his factory instead of sending them to concentration camps. At first, he uses them only to make money, using bribery in order to get workers. Eventually, he realizes he is saving them from harsh treatment elsewhere and continues to make sure they don't get sent to PlaszГіw. At the end of the movie, Schindler creates a list of all the Jews he can afford to buy, around 1,100, and starts a munitions factory. The munitions they made did not work, so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the movie, Amon Goeth, the commandant of the PlaszГіw camp, sits on his balcony and shoots Jews with no reason to. During one of the early scenes, a young girl yells, "Bye Jews, bye Jews!" as the Jewish are rounded up into the KrakГіw ghetto, showing that the hatred of the Jewish is learned and accepted by both young and old. One person can convince many others that their way is the right way and the only way. Another important point is that one person can change the world. It is really important to the film because Schindler was just one man and he alone, with some help from Stern, saved so many lives. He could have saved one life and still made a difference, but he gave over one thousand people another chance to live. Each life he saved is a life not lost to the horrors of the Holocaust. He did all he could possibly do and still didn't think it was enough. During one scene in the movie, a young Nazi boy finds a girl he knows and her mother. He tells them to come with him and he'll put them in the 'good' line. Even though he had to follow orders, he still tried to help them. Sometimes it only takes one person to change another's life for the better. III. Importance of the Film Schindler's List is based on the true story of Oskar Schindler. It is brutally honest and gives viewers an important insight on what actually occurred during the Holocaust. Every time I watch a movie or video about the Holocaust, I ... • 12. Christianity in Poland and the Church of St. Florian Religion is a defining factor of what gave people a common identity; so in order to feel connected with one another, rulers would take it upon themselves to unite their kingdoms and establish a universal religion. During the late middle ages Christianity was on the rise. It was widely accepted and appealed mostly to women and slaves, but everyone had their benefits from the new religion. This change in religion was evident through artwork at the time, and the construction of churches across Europe. Though Mieszko wasn't ever formally crowned king, for he ruled as a duke, he was one of the best political, and military leader for his country. He assumed power from his father, SiemomysЕ‚, in 964 at age 30 (Info–Poland). He immediately followed in some of the most successful countries' footprints in building up the military and a strong governing system. With his newly developed military, he would go on conquests to gain territory and expand his nation. He was a very triumphant leader like this and was quick to make political decisions too. He set up his alliances with other nations, as well. Surprisingly, his own marriage was a political move. In 965 he married Dobrawa, a Czech princess, to secure the coalition with her people and move to becoming establishing a better name for his country (Pulska). • 13. Krakow Research Paper Only a few miles from Poland's second largest cities, Krakow, lies a nearly barren field with only a moderate sized memorial to the thousands of people killed in a brutal act of genocide. Here, between 1941 and 1945, thousands of enemies of the Nazi party, primarily Jews, were worked, starved, died of disease, or were shot. Out of the over 150,000 people sent through Plaszow and its sub–camps, only around 2,000 survived. From its establishment in 1941 to its liquidation in January 1945, thousands of people lost their lives or were sent to their deaths in other camps. In the years before the German occupation, the Jewish population of Krakow was usually around 70,000. After the Nazi conquest, the Jews were persecuted relentlessly. Between May and December of 1941, 55,000 Krakow Jews were forced into the countryside, and between 15,000 and 20,000 remaining Jews were housed in the newly established Krakow Ghetto. • 14. Study of Dosso Dossi's Jupiter, Mercury and Virtue Essay Study of Dosso Dossi's Jupiter, Mercury and Virtue Dosso Dossi (c.1486–1542) was a Renaissance painter from the city of Ferrara in Northern Italy. Collaborating with his brother Battista, Dosso created some of the most groundbreaking yet baffling works for the dukes of Ferrara. Dosso's paintings, however, remained largely unheard of apart from occasional appearances in academic journals, until a series of traveling exhibitions in 1999 brought the artist back in attention. Heavily influenced by High Renaissance masters Leonardo and Michelangelo, as well as by Venetian painters, Dosso adopted a rich yet still subtle colour palette. What set him apart from his peers, on the other hand, were his atmospheric and "impressionistic" landscape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effect is particularly striking on Virtue's shortened right arm, which alludes to the space beyond the principal plane. Above all, the most distinctive feature in Dosso's painting is its imaginative treatment of mythological subjects. As indicated by a good number of art historians, Virtue, here personified as a goddess, turns out to have been mistreated and abused by Fortune and her companions. Virtue's friends, who were unable to protect her and thus fled, left her to be "beaten, stripped bare, and dragged through the mud" (Fiorenza, 152) by Fortune and her fellow bullies. Immediately following Virtue's mistreatment is the scene depicted on canvas: Virtue comes to Jupiter to inform him of Fortune's crime, when she is given the trivial excuse that the gods are busy making sure that the butterflies have beautifully painted wings. Amusingly, this brief background story is practically the only part that the art historians agreed upon. Early interpretations include a complicated love story between Mercury and Virtue, as well as the possible allusion that Jupiter is in fact a portrait of Duke Alfonso I d'Este, the commissioner of the painting. (Fiorenza, 29) Some even suggested the painting was created to celebrate the artist's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Identification Szymborska The endless altering matters of society remain controversial among its many spectators; nevertheless, Wislawa Szymborska views these matters as vacuous dictations. Szymborska confronts her perspective of society through her recurrent theme of mockery and wit, in which cultivates a comical aspect of her poetry. The comical aspects throughout some of Szymborska's poetry exploits the changing standards of society, the dictation that society places on an individual, the false sense of comfort that is provided by society, and the true state of oblivion that society resides in. This scrutinization of society remains within an underlying tone of ridicule and aversion, which is conveyed through Szymborska's a vast amount of devices, such as juxtaposition,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This state of denial can be prominently depicted within Szymborska's poem, "Identification." The poem presents a chronological experience of a woman's developing emotions as she rejects the fact that her husband had past away. The false sense of security resides within this poem, as the repetition of "it's good you came," presumably attempts to formulate a positive motif throughout the morbid poem(1, 17, 23). The comfort of others conceals the genuine emotion of loneliness, as the death of a loved one creates a false sense of reality; therefore, the constant reminder that someone else was with the recipient of the bad news, reminds them that they are not completely alone in the world. Furthermore, the sense of denial is continued through the hope of objects just being ordinary, such as, " a scrap of shirt, a watch, [and] a wedding ring." Szymborska uses this asyndeton in order to create a sense of irony, as the objects become more specific as the "names on that ring" (10); nevertheless, this creates a false sense of comfort for the aspect that anyone could own these objects, in which portrays the yearning for a confirmation that the speaker's loved one was not affiliated with this tragedy. Szymborska's use of the euphemism, "rubber sleeping bag," facilitates the endeavor to maintain the attempted positive motif, despite the "rubber sleeping bag" referring to a body bag (24). The body bag provides a false sense of a lighthearted connotation of a "sleeping bag" to being the cruel reality of death. Throughout "Identification," Szymborska mocks the oblivion and denial of the woman despite the morbid context of the poem. Through this method Szymborska further implies that one should face reality. Precisely as society should not be dictated without truly analyzing the true intention of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was a perpetrator. Just like any other Nazi, he would treat the Jews like slaves. At first, he used the Jews to make a big fortune. He knew about the Jewish black market, and knew that they had items that could not be found locally during the time of the war. He got items for himself through the black market, and even bought or took some items to resell at a higher price. Although this was bad, it was the least of his crimes. Oskar would use Jews in his factory. He did not pay them, and they worked countless hours getting as much material out the door as possible. His factories would make materials that were sure to be used. Since war was going on, Schindler knew that making war supplies would be the best option for making lot's of money. So, his slaves went to work. And, as they starved and sweat, he got rich and sipped expensive wine. He did not let just any Jew work for him. His workers were the best working Jews available. In fact, there was one time that a worker was not up to par with what Oskar expected, and he got very angry. This is to show that not just any Jew could come into his factory and work. Whether that may be as a post apocalyptic society in The Hunger Games or as an advanced utopia in Back to the Future Part II, any type of civilization you can imagine has been brought to life on the big screen or written in pages. There is however an idea in these societies that has been incorporated into most, if not all stories: the idea that this society is not as perfect as it seems and may in reality, be holding society back. The society may be represented as pure, holy, and beneficial to all who take part in it, but as the stories move on and symbolism (such as color) becomes more and more important, we realize that this society is flawed and is actually hurting it's people. The system may be helping those who created it, but it's lower citizens become more and more hopeless until they accept their lives in this society. This is a trope that has been repeated many times in literature and cinema. Personal Narrative: A Change In The Eyes That See Reality A Change in the Eyes That See Reality As the rain gushed from the ominous clouds above my head, I stared at the short, brick building looming in front of me. After my feet clunked up the small, cement staircase, I began to sense the despair, and hopelessness that those who once walked these corridors must have felt. It was as though I was in a dream... one that quickly changed to a nightmare. Just the day before, I was traversing the cobblestone streets of KrakГіw, Poland, other tourists rushing about me to see sites such as Wawel Castle and the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Domed roofs and complex architecture surrounded me and I gazed in wonder at the building behind me. The cotton candy clouds above me revealed peeks of the bright blue sky. However, the majestic buildings surrounding me were in stark contrast to the depressing buildings of Auschwitz. The walls featured wood sticking out for the inmates to sleep in abysmal conditions. In the tiny, cramped rooms, the scent of body odor seemed to be the permanent aroma. Contributing to that fact, we shuffled along shoulder to shoulder and the glass–fronted cabinets enclosed old basket, dirty shoes with holes worn straight through the sole, and even worse, old locks of hair– all stacked on top of each other to fill each gruesome display case. To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow. However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the ...
