Analysis Of Garden Valley Hunger Center
"You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope." –Collins In the span of a few
months, I have had the privilege of helping with programs that work toward ending hunger in
Northeastern Ohio. I worked at three places, and they all have a great impact on the community they
serve. Working with the people there, I gained a better understanding of how people become food
insecure and how important these programs are. The kindness I was shown is astonishing, and being
shown this affection made me build strong emotional connections to those I was helping.
Volunteering at these centers gave me a lot of hope that diminishing hunger insecurity is possible.
The first place I volunteered was Garden Valley Hunger Center (GVHC). The ... Show more content

She gives me hope that there will be a change in society that will focus on ebbing hunger
insecurities in America. Another program that I believe will eliminate hunger is the St. Pats Hot
Meal Program. St. Pats is a church that serves hot meals to the community multiple times a week.
When a group of peers and I got there, we spent some time with the kids that showed up while the
kitchen was getting ready for the meal. We brought them coloring books, crayons, colored pencils,
puzzles, and checkers. I sat across from a little boy who kept almost falling asleep. His grandma
explained to me that he does not usually act this way. He is usually a ball of energy who bounces off
the walls, but that day he did not have the energy because he was hungry. No matter how hard I tried
to distract him with coloring or even a conversation, he could not stop thinking about how hungry he
was. It made me really sad to think that someone's hunger could be so bad that they cannot do
anything. Food is a necessity, and being deprived of it can make you feel less human. I hate that in
this rich, industrialized nation, there are severe problems. We need to focus on ending hunger in
America, and places like St. Pats will help do that. We need to support these programs and expand
them to reach all of the hunger insecure. By building upon these programs, we Ohioans

Short Story
I was standing in the middle of an immense kitchen, modern and fully operational. Shiny metal
cooking utensils hung around the room, and the countertops were clean, in fact, everything was. I
myself, felt extremely out of place. In contrast to the spotless, shiny kitchen, my skin was dirty and
grimy, and my clothes were ragged and threadbare. In front of me, stood a bespectacled old man,
with thin grey hair and a mustache. He was extremely tall in my perspective. I only came up to just
past his knees. "What's your name?" The kindly looking old man, asked. However, I had no
intention to answer, for I did not actually have an answer to his question. This man had brought me
here, from the streets of Chicago, but he still didn't have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, come with me." W started to walk away, and I, not desiring to be left alone in an unfamiliar
place, with unfamiliar people, and knowing almost nothing about the situation I was in, followed
him. Besides, If I wanted to learn more, this person was the one who knew everything I needed to
find out. I followed him down the halls, my bare feet padding on the wooden floor softly. After a
series of turns, which I took note of, (Right, left, left, right) we came to a solid oaken door. Wammy
drew a key from the pocket of his extremely fancy suit, the type of which I had only seen people
who had a lot more money than I wearing. The door slowly opened, most likely due to its weight,
without making a sound. That meant that the hinges were oiled, possibly new. Revealed beyond the
door was a wide, open office filled with books, the centerpiece being a giant wooden desk with a
lamp and papers on top. There was no nameplate, no indication of who this person truly was. "You
are going to be tested.–" At this, I felt anxiety wash over me, but I listened to his words carefully.
"This will be logical problems, not riddles. All the information you need will be given to you in the
question." I hope the test is not on paper, I can't read. Also, riddles usually depend on something
having a double meaning, or being ambiguous. The one riddle I know does, at least. It's a famous
one too. "Is the test on paper?" I fiddled with my hands.

The Importance Of Japes Reflected On His Childhood
Japes reflected on his childhood as he took a one–week trip across the country to his newest
adventure. Visiting areas of interest while he made his way across the country brought a smile to his
face. Away from home for one year flew by like a lightning bolt, yet so much had already happened.
He grew up on a two hundred acre spread in an enormous old farmhouse. The main house included a
library, eight bedrooms, two dining rooms, two living areas, a pantry, and an eat–in kitchen. A great
place to play games during those long, cold northern winters, he never felt confined. The family
owned a mile of lake frontage, which included two beaches, a sandbar, a cranberry bog, and
numerous docks for diving and boating. A playground fit for a prince ... Show more content on

Japes grew up in a resort and met every type of person known to mankind or so he thought. Anyone
who could afford a summer vacation at a beautiful resort frequented this area. In the off–season his
real friends were the locals. Japes, in reality, embodied the identity of a "local" he simply enjoyed
the benefit of having the world come to him every summer. A community of five hundred, growing
to five thousand during "the season", along with his friends and parents would bestow upon him his
values.
Pete, Japes father, a tall, slender man with a long nose and a year–round tan always had a Camel
cigarette hanging out of the left side of his mouth. Stoic and thoughtful, he loved the great outdoors
and all that nature could bring, he taught his children how to hunt and fish and appreciate nature.
Pete and Japes similarity ran deeper than father and son they both inherited server–dystrophy
causing physical restrictions affecting their ability to move like the others, and inevitably played a
role in defining their lives. Pete taught him that everyone had strengths and weaknesses most of
which one could not see with the eye. Since the two of them appreciated life with certain limitations

balancing and sometimes even remarkable accomplishments can occur. The locals called them Pete

The Sunset Grill–at–Blue, an all–breakfast franchise, located in the Village at Blue Mountain,
Ontario is currently operated by Bruce Melhuish. Even though the franchise was named Business of
the Year in the counties of Simcoe and Grey, the first year of operation resulted in breaking even.

The average turn from the time customers receive their food to the time they exit the restaurant, is
32 minutes. Additionally, it appears that even the experienced staff has difficulties in serving the
customers as the demand exceeds labor utilized creating queues on the weekends of up to 25
minutes.
The restaurant also shares the same occupancy pattern as The Village at Blue Mountain, which
results in lower sales during shoulder seasons (April, May, October and November). During the
months of extreme weather conditions the restaurant's capacity is reduced as the patio of 40 seats
become inoperable. In addition, the restaurant could not receive daily inventory deliveries from
Toronto, which resulted in paying a premium on effective inventory management.
Problem Statement
Sunset Grill at Blue is understaffed and lacks adequate seating capacity to accommodate the demand
of customers during the weekend.
Analysis
Bruce Melhuish has finished his first year as a franchisee of Sunset Grill and has had some
difficulties. He is staying focused on differentiating his restaurant due to his clientele. Bruce's
Business–to–customer experiences create added value by engaging and connecting with the
customer in a personal and memorable way. (Fitzsimmons, Fitzsimmons, & Bordoloi 2014). He has
done this by deviating from the franchise model by adding personal touches to the restaurant such as

My Dreams Of My Superpowers
Superpowers "You can do anything that you set your mind to!" This was a very common phrase that
my parents would say to me when my siblings and I were younger. Now at the age of 17 I
understand that it's supposed to inspire me to follow my dream. But that's not how the mind of my
five year old self translated it. At five years old I was more focused on playing with barbie dolls and
watching superhero movies. My favorite superhero was batman. He would always make sure to save
the day and get the bad guys. At five years old my dreams for my future were nothing like they are
now. They mostly revolved around having some type of special ability. I wanted to have telekinesis
which was no doubt inspired by watching Race to Witch Mountain. Most of the movies that I
watched at five years old had some type of main character who either had a superpower or was a
superhero. Most of my dreams were to be like them and have some cool superpower that I could
use. So when my parents kept telling me that I can do anything as long as I try, I don't think they
meant that I can have any superpower I want. Looking back on it now, most of the time that my
parents said that phrase was when I told them I couldn't do my homework because it was too hard.
They most likely meant for that saying to inspire me to work hard and finish my homework. But at
five years old I thought that if this phrase applies to homework then why can't it apply to everything
else, like gaining a superpower. My family and I

Personal Narrative-Painted Girl
Painted Girl put her bags down on the counter, tired from a long day at work. Tizio was great. He'd
taken her to his uncles place and they'd spent a wonderful day ordering things from his antique
store. She looked around the kitchen. Chinese takeout littered the countertop but no one had cleaned
up. She picked up a note.
Enjoy.
Wonderful. She'd brought Sarah to help her, not... frolic her time away with John. She picked up the
half eaten plates and walked over the sink. She flipped a couple of switches hopefully and tada, it
did! It had a garbage disposal. How she'd love to have one in her kitchen. She'd refinished her
bathroom a few years ago but they just hadn't gotten around to redoing the kitchen.

"Man Sarah, that Painted Girl is a tight one," John said caressing her leg. "She's fun though. Her
face puckers when she's embarrassed."
Sarah rolled over and looked at John. "She's a virgin."
"That I gathered. An endangered species here in New York. What is she, thirty?" John snickered.
"Prude."
"Naw, my brother is just slow," Sarah informed him.
"She's dating your brother?" John asked. "Mmm," he rubbed her leg, making his way up her thigh.
"I guess they just don't make horny genes like they used to. In my day, I'd of had her jeans off in 5
minutes flat."
Flustered Sarah jerked John's head down and gave him a kiss.
I must try harder. I have to keep him interested.
"Oh, man, I forgot the beer. Keep that thought will ya?" John asked as he jumped up and left the
room.
Left for a beer. Ugh. She flapped her arms out on the bed with a huff. What can I do that would be

The Evening Sun Character Analysis
In the book, The Evening Sun, Meecham is the main character who struggles to find balance
between his past and his frustrating present. He finds himself in a nursery home for the elderly,
however Meecham refuses to live the rest of his life in this condition of loneliness. Nothing is his
life is the same, from losing his home to his dearly beloved, Meecham fights for his home that
Lonzo Choats bought from his son. The Evening Sun portrays descriptive irony, dramatic
foreshadowing, and antagonistic dialogue. The descriptive irony displays the tragic reality of
Meecham's life as he faces the loss of his possessions due to his son neglecting to face his father's
wishes to be in his farm house. The tragic irony reveals Meecham's concern as to why his life is so
different. "He was alive and the world alive with him and he had come back to it without either of
them being changed," (Gay, 11). Meecham stands outside the shack reminiscing to the thought of
how his was, and how everything is the same, except nothing is how he envisioned his life to be. He
believes in his last days he would be on his farm waking up to the sunrise, which in fact he was, but
he was in the shack next to his farmhouse that is occupied by Choats. Accordingly, irony conveys an
inevitable situation in Meecham's life when his son his career comes before his father's wishes to
stay on his land. He finds himself on an ambulance taking him to an unknown destination, but
Meecham comes to terms with the inevitable reality of his future. "Went slipstreaming off the dark
glass as if it might have something to tell him, might give him some intimitaion as to his
destination," (Gay, 30). Meecham reaches the final stretch, the dark glass signifies his death is closer
than expect. The irony is when someone is dying they say "I see the light," but Meecham visualizes
darkness, and intense darkness that communicate that the end of the road is approaching for him.
Drama increases the intensity to foreshadowing, because Meecham finds himself in constant turmoil
with Choats over the land. His anger toward Choats clouds his judgement and enrages him several
times in his quest to evict Choats off the land he legally owns. "Meecham was lightheaded with

Impacts of Vastuvidya on preservation of living environments
Vaastu is the science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature and balances them

Vastu principles are based on the analysis of these five sources of energy and their correct
utilization.
Vastuvidya is one of the teachings from the ancient Indian civilization. It is a discipline that

Most Scared Descriptive Writing
The Most Scared I've Ever Been...
It was about two weeks after school got out. It was just a run–of–the–mill kind of Sunday. I decided
to take my usual day–long naps that seemed to repeatedly happen during the weekend. Once I woke
up I was determined to go see what my family was up to, so I went up the stairs two at a time. When
I got halfway up the stairs I remembered that I had to go to work in an hour. I skidded to a stop and
barely stopped myself from plunging down the stairs that I had just ran up by gripping the handrail.
Which was gratefully attached to the wall on the right of me. Turning around so fast that I almost

We were driving for about ten minutes when it happened. The car jerked to the right making the
most frightening screeching noise, and causing my phone to go soaring from my now trembling
hands. On the passenger side (my side) I watched as we slammed into a ginormous, giant semi–
truck, and I felt my heart rate go bezerk. I felt like it was a movie and I was watching this happen
from above as my older sister wrenched the car to the left trying to get away from the enormous
semi–truck. I next heard a scream. After realizing that I screamed I put my hands over my mouth
and had the audacity to feel embarrassed even in the scary situation that we were in. After the
trauma of the moment and realizing that we were both okay, I look over to my sister who is holding
the steering wheel like a death grip. I tell her that it was going to be ok and that she needed to pull
off the road, so we found a clear spot to pull off to and then parked the now battered car. Using my
shaking hands I slowly grabbed my phone and after taking a long, deep breath I called my parents
and told them what happened. Not knowing what to do we waited for the cops and my parents to
show up and called our workplace explaining the situation and telling them we were going to be late

Grandmother's House Essay
Grandmother's House
My grandmother's house has a very special place in my heart. As the family has gotten older and we
have all had our own children we do not visit as we should. I visited with my grandmother many
times when I was little. Her house always seemed to have something about it that set it apart from
all the rest. As you walk into the back door of her house you would notice a long, narrow kitchen
that led into the main living and dining room of her house. The smell of food home cooked food was
quite evident. Grandmother cooked every day and always cooked big meals on holidays for the
family. My grandmothers house was always full of laughter and many cheers. Our family used to

She is a highly giving person to everyone around her and she never asks for anything in return. She
always has an ear to ear smile that would brighten up any day. Some of the many memories I carry
with me every day of my grandmother are the holidays when we used to get together. I remember
Thanksgiving and Easter most of all. On Thanksgiving the entire family would come together for
dinner and then we would all stay at her house for the night. I remember this so well because we
would wake up the next morning to the smell of breakfast and all the ladies would be gone shopping
to the "After Thanksgiving Sale". My grandmother has a very softhearted voice that I still hear
telling me goodnight when we were little. She would wait with us until we fell deep asleep. And
even as we got older she would gather us around the kitchen table and let us watch the old fashioned
ice cream maker churn the best vanilla ice cream and then she would load it up with chocolate chips,
and our parents would always say, "That's too many.", and grandmother just let us keep piling them
on. My grandmother is the kind, gentle, loving, caring grandmother that I wish my children could
experience today. As the family grew older, every one separated and as my cousins and I got older
and had our own children the holidays at grandmothers house have faded away. No one even goes to
grandmothers house for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and there are no more Easter Sunday egg

A fast growing trend in today's rocky real estate market; buy a house, flip it and sell it quickly to

Molly, Susan, and Beth greeted the fearless foursome at the front door. Reunited as a family, they all

Thanksgiving Reflection Paper
In order to understand tradition one has to fully immerse themselves into a situation where tradition
is taking place. Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to explore what it means to celebrate, the
holiday is an American holiday only and is celebrated in a multitude of different ways with an
endless amount of traditional flare that changes from family to family. I have many biases as to what
the Thanksgiving holiday looks like. Political rants, family members fighting over things from the
past, children running around creating chaos. I chose my family to observe because I wanted to gain
somewhat of an outsider perspective on what it was like to be around my family at the holidays.
Obviously I have been going to Thanksgiving with these same people my whole life but I wanted to
be able to look at the gathering in a different way and understand in a more significant way why the
way my family celebrates may be different from how I've seen other people's families celebrate.
As I step toward the house that I have known my entire life I find myself inspecting every inch of
the outer areas. The pile of crunchy, dull colored leaves that had been pushed to a corner as if not to
interfere with the delicately arranged garden that surrounded the lands perimeter just along the
sidewalk. The flowers in the surrounding garden have all died and are merely brown branches
standing tall and spiked awaiting the spring season. The entryway walls are consumed with long
weaving branches all

Stone Comes in Various Types, Colours and Patterns
Similar to laminate, stone comes in a wide variety of colours ranging from white to black. The
pattern of the stone depends on whether it is marble, Caesarstone or quartz, granite or another type

Stone Resists Scratching, Scorching and Cracking
Unlike laminate stone resists scratching, scorching and cracking, which makes it well worth the
extra expense of it when your budget allows for it. Stone does require sealing to ensure that it is
resistant to stains from spills since it is a porous, natural material.
Stone Complements a Variety of Kitchen Styles

For as long as I can remember, my dad has always corrected my grammar and manners. As a lawyer,

outlines of trees outside. I could hear my dog barking in the other room, and my phone as it vibrates
on the countertop. I did not dare open my phone to answer a text unless I wanted another look from
my dad that hinted to pay attention. Eventually, I tuned back in and listened to what my dad had to
say. He was busy going over the "Me vs. I" rule, and how to figure out when to use either of the
words. This simple rule is one that has stuck with me ever since this night. The rule states to use "I"
when you are the subject, and use "me" when you are the object of the sentence. A quick trick my
dad brought up was to take out the first part of the sentence and see if it makes sense. For example,
"Kelsey and me went to the store." If you took out "Kelsey and", and the sentence did not sound
right, that meant you were using the wrong word. The correct structure is "Kelsey and I went to the
store." This makes sense because "I went to the store" could stand alone as a sentence, while "Me
went to the store" cannot. I had made lots of these mistakes in my paper, so by the time we got to the
end of the essay, I knew the rule

Personal Narrative: The Rain Inside William's Room
It was raining in West Seattle, which was not all that unusual. What was not so usual was that it was
also raining in William Berry's bedroom, which was coincidently also in West Seattle. The rain
inside William's bedroom was probably due to the very large hole that went through the ceiling and
through the roof as well.
The hole had been created when a cable broke on a crane. The crane had been lifting a very large air
conditioner to the roof of five story apartment building next door to William's house. The air
conditioner had been above his bedroom at the time but it was now sitting on the floor of the
bedroom next to the bed. William was trying to figure out how he was going to tell his mother and

What Word Home Means To You Essay
What the Word Home Means to You
Home – noun
1. The place where you live.
2. The place where you where born or feel you belong.
I feel that the dictionary meaning of home is the same as my opinion of the word. Home for me is
where I feel without care and is where I can live without fear. My home is in Bolden Colliery, South
Shields in that unique northeastern town of Newcastle in England.
For me it was very hard to establish where home was because my parents are of different

For example here people can make more money due to the taxation rates and people can buy more
luxury items. I benefit from being able to roam the streets alone until eleven o clock at night. In
England I would have to be at home at eight o clock or go out with a big group of friends for
security. Naturally I love these benefits. The feature about Dubai that I dislike is that good friends a
very hard to come across. This is partly because, in my opinion, people here are very fake and do
not appreciate how lucky they are to be here. Another reason why it is hard to make good friends is
because your friend or you will have to leave the country. This is due to a new contract that your

Analysis Of The Book ' Carrol '
"Carrol, is the casserole done yet? I'm starving. I haven't eaten since 5:30." "It's 5:45 now," said
Carrol. She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky.
"Exactly," said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, "I still haven't filled up my second stomach
yet," earning a grin from gray–haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
Carrol smiled and replied, "We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I'm so excited. We haven't seen her in
so long."
She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and
slowly made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the small
chatter of Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard Ben
invite her into the kitchen in his deep gruff voice.
There stood rosy–cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and
trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses. He
carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud–green coat.
"Mom, it's so great to see you!" exclaimed Alice.
"Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this?" Carrol said, looking back at the boy.
"Oh," said Alice in her cheerful voice, "This is Ethan."
He held out a gloved hand, and introduced himself, "Pleasure to meet you," he said through a
congested, nasally voice. Carrol shook his hand as Ethan sniffed the kitchen air. "What is that I
smell?" he said.

The Home Beneath The House
The Home Beneath the House There's just something about home that is so comforting and
innocent. Maybe it's the great oak tree in the backyard that you used to swing on when you were
young. Or maybe it's the kitchen where memories were made while making a homemade pizza with
the whole family. Regardless, it doesn't matter what it was it's just something we all could call
home. When I reflect on home, I see the giant pine trees lining up alongside the vacant gravel road.
As I pull into my long gravel driveway, I hear the sounds of the rocks hurling from the underneath
the tires and the chatters of all of the dogs buzzing through my ears. Looking into the huge front
yard with all of flamboyant flowers welcoming me back home. I see the dogs running towards the
car waiting to greet me. Just when I step out of the car I'm welcomed by the fresh aroma of the
outdoor world. The freedom of not having to worry about being seen overwhelms me. It's really
enjoyable to be able to live out in the middle of nowhere. As I walk up the flight of the stained
wooden stairs to our hand built porch I see the front door come into view. As my hand firmly grasps
the handle and pushes open the door the welcoming scent envelops me in an earnest hug. While I
review the room I see all the memories and flashbacks flood my eyes. The wooden coffee table I
used to dance on in the center of the room. The couches against the wall where we would sit and
watch movies and play games together. The door to my

Cooking The Revolution During The Nineteenth Century
Cooking the Revolution
HTS Submission to Fabrizio Ballabio
Leticia Dadalto
In the nineteenth Century the kitchen worked as the machinery. It had to be the biggest room of the
plan in order to support all the apparatus needed for the housework: the stove, the sewing machine
and the fridge were basically built in architecture elements. That results in a very unhealthy and
harsh environment that keeps the house working. Each family had its own house and its own land
where their own food was produced and their own clothes were sewn by the enslaved housewife: the
whole system was based in isolation (Hayden, 1982). It is curious to notice how Woman 's History
started changing around design iterations of this once oppressive space.
In the mid–1800, names like Ernest Engels, Charles Fourier, Melusina Fey Peirce, the Beecher
sisters and Louise Bourgeous started to propose different organisations. The Material Feminists,
who believed in the economical independence of woman as the way to provide them freedom, were
supported by the Community Socialists (or Utopian Socialists) for the creation of ideal societies
with no distinction between class or gender (Hayden, 1982:10). The support between these thinkers
emphasises that in order to change woman's condition there is a need for changing the home design
as well as the household and the economical system. The patriarchic organisation of the house can
be considered a political–economical system in a

Analysis Of Garden Valley Hunger Center

  • 1. Analysis Of Garden Valley Hunger Center "You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope." –Collins In the span of a few months, I have had the privilege of helping with programs that work toward ending hunger in Northeastern Ohio. I worked at three places, and they all have a great impact on the community they serve. Working with the people there, I gained a better understanding of how people become food insecure and how important these programs are. The kindness I was shown is astonishing, and being shown this affection made me build strong emotional connections to those I was helping. Volunteering at these centers gave me a lot of hope that diminishing hunger insecurity is possible. The first place I volunteered was Garden Valley Hunger Center (GVHC). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She gives me hope that there will be a change in society that will focus on ebbing hunger insecurities in America. Another program that I believe will eliminate hunger is the St. Pats Hot Meal Program. St. Pats is a church that serves hot meals to the community multiple times a week. When a group of peers and I got there, we spent some time with the kids that showed up while the kitchen was getting ready for the meal. We brought them coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, puzzles, and checkers. I sat across from a little boy who kept almost falling asleep. His grandma explained to me that he does not usually act this way. He is usually a ball of energy who bounces off the walls, but that day he did not have the energy because he was hungry. No matter how hard I tried to distract him with coloring or even a conversation, he could not stop thinking about how hungry he was. It made me really sad to think that someone's hunger could be so bad that they cannot do anything. Food is a necessity, and being deprived of it can make you feel less human. I hate that in this rich, industrialized nation, there are severe problems. We need to focus on ending hunger in America, and places like St. Pats will help do that. We need to support these programs and expand them to reach all of the hunger insecure. By building upon these programs, we Ohioans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Short Story I was standing in the middle of an immense kitchen, modern and fully operational. Shiny metal cooking utensils hung around the room, and the countertops were clean, in fact, everything was. I myself, felt extremely out of place. In contrast to the spotless, shiny kitchen, my skin was dirty and grimy, and my clothes were ragged and threadbare. In front of me, stood a bespectacled old man, with thin grey hair and a mustache. He was extremely tall in my perspective. I only came up to just past his knees. "What's your name?" The kindly looking old man, asked. However, I had no intention to answer, for I did not actually have an answer to his question. This man had brought me here, from the streets of Chicago, but he still didn't have ... W started to walk away, and I, not desiring to be left alone in an unfamiliar place, with unfamiliar people, and knowing almost nothing about the situation I was in, followed him. Besides, If I wanted to learn more, this person was the one who knew everything I needed to find out. I followed him down the halls, my bare feet padding on the wooden floor softly. After a series of turns, which I took note of, (Right, left, left, right) we came to a solid oaken door. Wammy drew a key from the pocket of his extremely fancy suit, the type of which I had only seen people who had a lot more money than I wearing. The door slowly opened, most likely due to its weight, without making a sound. That meant that the hinges were oiled, possibly new. Revealed beyond the door was a wide, open office filled with books, the centerpiece being a giant wooden desk with a lamp and papers on top. There was no nameplate, no indication of who this person truly was. "You are going to be tested.–" At this, I felt anxiety wash over me, but I listened to his words carefully. "This will be logical problems, not riddles. All the information you need will be given to you in the question." I hope the test is not on paper, I can't read. Also, riddles usually depend on something having a double meaning, or being ambiguous. The one riddle I know does, at least. It's a famous one too. "Is the test on paper?" I fiddled with my hands. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Visiting areas of interest while he made his way across the country brought a smile to his face. Away from home for one year flew by like a lightning bolt, yet so much had already happened. He grew up on a two hundred acre spread in an enormous old farmhouse. The main house included a library, eight bedrooms, two dining rooms, two living areas, a pantry, and an eat–in kitchen. • 22. My Dreams Of My Superpowers Superpowers "You can do anything that you set your mind to!" This was a very common phrase that my parents would say to me when my siblings and I were younger. Now at the age of 17 I understand that it's supposed to inspire me to follow my dream. But that's not how the mind of my five year old self translated it. At five years old I was more focused on playing with barbie dolls and watching superhero movies. My favorite superhero was batman. He would always make sure to save the day and get the bad guys. At five years old my dreams for my future were nothing like they are now. They mostly revolved around having some type of special ability. I wanted to have telekinesis which was no doubt inspired by watching Race to Witch Mountain. Most of the movies that I watched at five years old had some type of main character who either had a superpower or was a superhero. Most of my dreams were to be like them and have some cool superpower that I could use. So when my parents kept telling me that I can do anything as long as I try, I don't think they meant that I can have any superpower I want. Looking back on it now, most of the time that my parents said that phrase was when I told them I couldn't do my homework because it was too hard. They most likely meant for that saying to inspire me to work hard and finish my homework. But at five years old I thought that if this phrase applies to homework then why can't it apply to everything else, like gaining a superpower. My family and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He'd taken her to his uncles place and they'd spent a wonderful day ordering things from his antique store. She looked around the kitchen. Chinese takeout littered the countertop but no one had cleaned up. She picked up a note. Enjoy. Wonderful. She'd brought Sarah to help her, not... frolic her time away with John. • 32. The Evening Sun Character Analysis In the book, The Evening Sun, Meecham is the main character who struggles to find balance between his past and his frustrating present. He finds himself in a nursery home for the elderly, however Meecham refuses to live the rest of his life in this condition of loneliness. Nothing is his life is the same, from losing his home to his dearly beloved, Meecham fights for his home that Lonzo Choats bought from his son. The Evening Sun portrays descriptive irony, dramatic foreshadowing, and antagonistic dialogue. The descriptive irony displays the tragic reality of Meecham's life as he faces the loss of his possessions due to his son neglecting to face his father's wishes to be in his farm house. The tragic irony reveals Meecham's concern as to why his life is so different. "He was alive and the world alive with him and he had come back to it without either of them being changed," (Gay, 11). Meecham stands outside the shack reminiscing to the thought of how his was, and how everything is the same, except nothing is how he envisioned his life to be. He believes in his last days he would be on his farm waking up to the sunrise, which in fact he was, but he was in the shack next to his farmhouse that is occupied by Choats. Accordingly, irony conveys an inevitable situation in Meecham's life when his son his career comes before his father's wishes to stay on his land. He finds himself on an ambulance taking him to an unknown destination, but Meecham comes to terms with the inevitable reality of his future. "Went slipstreaming off the dark glass as if it might have something to tell him, might give him some intimitaion as to his destination," (Gay, 30). Meecham reaches the final stretch, the dark glass signifies his death is closer than expect. The irony is when someone is dying they say "I see the light," but Meecham visualizes darkness, and intense darkness that communicate that the end of the road is approaching for him. Drama increases the intensity to foreshadowing, because Meecham finds himself in constant turmoil with Choats over the land. His anger toward Choats clouds his judgement and enrages him several times in his quest to evict Choats off the land he legally owns. "Meecham was lightheaded with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stone Resists Scratching, Scorching and Cracking Unlike laminate stone resists scratching, scorching and cracking, which makes it well worth the extra expense of it when your budget allows for it. Stone does require sealing to ensure that it is resistant to stains from spills since it is a porous, natural material. Stone Complements a Variety of Kitchen Styles An additional benefit of stone is that it fits in with various kitchen styles from contemporary to traditional. You can even add stone countertops in rustic kitchens.

  • 65. Personal Narrative Personal Writing For as long as I can remember, my dad has always corrected my grammar and manners. As a lawyer, he writes and reviews thousands of legal documents, which has sharpened his writing skills tremendously. With these skills comes a grammar geek who loves correcting people. Looking back at all the times my dad has reminded me of a certain rule, a particular occasion always comes to mind. This moment took place at my kitchen counter in Illinois when I was a Freshman in High School. It was a late weekday night in the Kennedy household and all five of us were awake as ever. My brother was in the basement, my sister was upstairs doing homework and skyping her friends, and my parents and I were in the kitchen. More specifically, my mom was making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gazing past the kitchen island I see my mom cooking dinner. Like I said, it was a late night, so she was quickly making a large salad with some sort of meat for the family. I can envision the white walls, the light fixture hanging above my head, and the large bay windows that show the dark outlines of trees outside. I could hear my dog barking in the other room, and my phone as it vibrates on the countertop. I did not dare open my phone to answer a text unless I wanted another look from my dad that hinted to pay attention. Eventually, I tuned back in and listened to what my dad had to say. He was busy going over the "Me vs. I" rule, and how to figure out when to use either of the words. This simple rule is one that has stuck with me ever since this night. The rule states to use "I" when you are the subject, and use "me" when you are the object of the sentence. A quick trick my dad brought up was to take out the first part of the sentence and see if it makes sense. For example, "Kelsey and me went to the store." If you took out "Kelsey and", and the sentence did not sound right, that meant you were using the wrong word. The correct structure is "Kelsey and I went to the store." This makes sense because "I went to the store" could stand alone as a sentence, while "Me went to the store" cannot. I had made lots of these mistakes in my paper, so by the time we got to the end of the essay, I knew the rule ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Personal Narrative: The Rain Inside William's Room It was raining in West Seattle, which was not all that unusual. What was not so usual was that it was also raining in William Berry's bedroom, which was coincidently also in West Seattle. The rain inside William's bedroom was probably due to the very large hole that went through the ceiling and through the roof as well. The hole had been created when a cable broke on a crane. The crane had been lifting a very large air conditioner to the roof of five story apartment building next door to William's house. The air conditioner had been above his bedroom at the time but it was now sitting on the floor of the bedroom next to the bed. William was trying to figure out how he was going to tell his mother and father about the roof. They had driven up to Canada for the weekend. It was the first time that they had ever left him alone. They had started to arrange for someone to come and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I ... don't have a, .... big brother Jake. You must have the wrong house." "No, I have the right house." said the voice. William stopped again. He was sure that whoever it was on the other side of the door was mistaken but he seemed to be very confident of the fact that he had the right house. "Look," said William, " I don't want to argue with you. It's already been a long and strange day, but I am absolutely sure that I don't have a big brother named Jake or anything else for that matter. I am an only child." Apparently the voice was not going to give up." Look, I really am your big brother. You just have not met me yet, and you are most definitely not an only child. We have a very large family." "You're a nut" said William. "I'm gonna call the cops. I suggest that you go away. Quickly." "Look William. Yes, I know what your name is. We don't have time for this. Amy slowly walked to the counter and sat down. Her mom placed a plate of pancakes in front of her. he instantly started to eat them. When Amy ate, she looked out at the stars admiring how beautiful they were. You can be in space for ten years and never get sick of them. • 71. A Short Story : A Story Of A Childbird One night a young girl named Lily Foster is left alone for the night in her very large country house, while her parents drove out of town for a party. This was fine with Lily especially since she had her faithful dog, Scout, and her cell phone. Finally, her parents said, ''Be safe and don't go outside.'' Lily gave them a hug and said, ''Of course and have fun!'' Once her parents drove off in their car, she made herself something to eat and sat down at the kitchen table. Turning on the tv she was surprised to see on the news that an avenged murderer was on the loose. The lady on the news said it's best if people secure all windows and doors as a safety hazard. With the dog by her side, the young girl locked the front and back doors. She went from window to window and locked each of them one by one. She kept reassuring herself that she would be fine with her trusty dog and that her parents would be home shortly anyways. So Lily had a pleasant, peaceful evening, and finally decided around eleven o'clock that it was time for her to go to bed. She climbed the stairs to her bedroom and slid under the big, warm blanket on her bed. Before closing her eyes she reached her hand down under the bed and allowed her dog to lick it. She did this every night because it comforted her. A short while later she awoke to the sound of a scratching noise at her bedroom window. She eyed the window and reminded herself that the whole house was locked and she was safe. She stuck her hand under her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. What Word Home Means To You Essay What the Word Home Means to You Home – noun 1. The place where you live. 2. The place where you where born or feel you belong. I feel that the dictionary meaning of home is the same as my opinion of the word. Home for me is where I feel without care and is where I can live without fear. My home is in Bolden Colliery, South Shields in that unique northeastern town of Newcastle in England. For me it was very hard to establish where home was because my parents are of different nationalities. My mother is English and my father is Croatian. I chose England to be the place of my home. I chose this because I was born there and because I also have a house there. Most of my childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example here people can make more money due to the taxation rates and people can buy more luxury items. I benefit from being able to roam the streets alone until eleven o clock at night. In England I would have to be at home at eight o clock or go out with a big group of friends for security. Naturally I love these benefits. The feature about Dubai that I dislike is that good friends a very hard to come across. This is partly because, in my opinion, people here are very fake and do not appreciate how lucky they are to be here. Another reason why it is hard to make good friends is because your friend or you will have to leave the country. This is due to a new contract that your parents have received, to work in another country, or the current contract to work in this country has ended. My house in Dubai is a single story, terraced villa and is situated in a nice area of the rapidly evolving city. The villa has a total of six rooms. It has two spacious bedrooms, one equipped with an en–suite bathroom. The second bathroom is found in the hall. Moving from the hall the next room is the kitchen. This room is very spacious, light and airy. There are light grey tiles on the floor and white tills running up the walls. The kitchen is equipped with the usual: fridge, cooker and washing machine. These are all silver to match the tiles. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Analysis Of The Book ' Carrol ' "Carrol, is the casserole done yet? I'm starving. I haven't eaten since 5:30." "It's 5:45 now," said Carrol. She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky. "Exactly," said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, "I still haven't filled up my second stomach yet," earning a grin from gray–haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter. Carrol smiled and replied, "We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I'm so excited. We haven't seen her in so long." She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and slowly made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the small chatter of Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard Ben invite her into the kitchen in his deep gruff voice. There stood rosy–cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses. He carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud–green coat. "Mom, it's so great to see you!" exclaimed Alice. "Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this?" Carrol said, looking back at the boy. "Oh," said Alice in her cheerful voice, "This is Ethan." He held out a gloved hand, and introduced himself, "Pleasure to meet you," he said through a congested, nasally voice. Carrol shook his hand as Ethan sniffed the kitchen air. "What is that I smell?" he said. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Home Beneath The House The Home Beneath the House There's just something about home that is so comforting and innocent. Maybe it's the great oak tree in the backyard that you used to swing on when you were young. Or maybe it's the kitchen where memories were made while making a homemade pizza with the whole family. Regardless, it doesn't matter what it was it's just something we all could call home. When I reflect on home, I see the giant pine trees lining up alongside the vacant gravel road. As I pull into my long gravel driveway, I hear the sounds of the rocks hurling from the underneath the tires and the chatters of all of the dogs buzzing through my ears. Looking into the huge front yard with all of flamboyant flowers welcoming me back home. I see the dogs running towards the car waiting to greet me. Just when I step out of the car I'm welcomed by the fresh aroma of the outdoor world. The freedom of not having to worry about being seen overwhelms me. It's really enjoyable to be able to live out in the middle of nowhere. As I walk up the flight of the stained wooden stairs to our hand built porch I see the front door come into view. As my hand firmly grasps the handle and pushes open the door the welcoming scent envelops me in an earnest hug. While I review the room I see all the memories and flashbacks flood my eyes. The wooden coffee table I used to dance on in the center of the room. The couches against the wall where we would sit and watch movies and play games together. The door to my ... • 79. Cooking The Revolution During The Nineteenth Century Cooking the Revolution HTS Submission to Fabrizio Ballabio Leticia Dadalto In the nineteenth Century the kitchen worked as the machinery. It had to be the biggest room of the plan in order to support all the apparatus needed for the housework: the stove, the sewing machine and the fridge were basically built in architecture elements. That results in a very unhealthy and harsh environment that keeps the house working. Each family had its own house and its own land where their own food was produced and their own clothes were sewn by the enslaved housewife: the whole system was based in isolation (Hayden, 1982). It is curious to notice how Woman 's History started changing around design iterations of this once oppressive space. In the mid–1800, names like Ernest Engels, Charles Fourier, Melusina Fey Peirce, the Beecher sisters and Louise Bourgeous started to propose different organisations. The Material Feminists, who believed in the economical independence of woman as the way to provide them freedom, were supported by the Community Socialists (or Utopian Socialists) for the creation of ideal societies with no distinction between class or gender (Hayden, 1982:10). The support between these thinkers emphasises that in order to change woman's condition there is a need for changing the home design as well as the household and the economical system. The patriarchic organisation of the house can be considered a political–economical system in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
