Role of Culture and Ikea
Introduction – Company Background
IKEA furnitures, privately held, international, low–cost home products are an inevitable part of interior furnishings at many houses in the world. IKEA
furnitures are marked for its modern utilitarian design. The company has 260 retail outlets around the world and more new stores are on the line to be
opened in 2008 (Dhanyasree, 2007).
IKEA was founded in 1943 by a 17–year–old Ingvar Kamprad in Smaland, south of Sweden. IKEA formed its name from the founder 's initials (I.K.)
plus the first letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, the farm and village where he grew up from a farmer to a businessman. Ingvar sold whatever he

IKEA wants its coworkers to feel important so that they will be able to express their ideas and feel responsible for improving the way things are done
(Larsson, Brousseau, Driver, Holmqvist & Tarnovskaya, 2003). For example, on opening day of the original Stockholm store, the warehouse could not
cope with the rush of customers. The store manager suggested that they be allowed to go into the warehouse to pick up their purchases. The result was
so successful that future warehouses were designed to allow self–selection by customers, resulting in cost savings and faster service (Bartlett & Nanda,
1996).
Because it had such a strong and unique culture, IKEA preferred not to recruit those who had already been immersed in another cultural stream. Nor
was higher education necessary or even advantageous in IKEA. "The Stockholm–raised, highly educated, status–oriented individuals often find it
difficult to adjust to the culture of the company", remarked one executive. "Younger, more open recruits not only keep costs low, but they also absorb
and amplify the enthusiasm of the company. We can develop them quickly by delegating responsibilities early, rotating them frequently, and offering
rapid promotions to the high performers" (Bartlett & Nanda, 1996).
In 1976, Kamprad felt the need to commit to paper the values that had developed in IKEA during the precious decade. His thesis, Testament

Ike Ikea, An Entrepreneur
Ikea Introduction Ingvar Kamprad, an entrepreneur, founded the Swedish furniture company IKEA in 1943 (Chu, 2013). Kamprad was only 17
years old when he founded the IKEA company. He named the company after the initials of his first and last name and the first letter of the farm and
hometown he grew up in (Bhasin). In the years following, the Swedish furniture giant has grown to 328 stores in 28 countries as of August 2015. This
includes 1.9 billion visits to IKEA.com, 771 million store visits, 213 million catalogs printed in 32 languages and 155,000 co–workers across 6
continents. According to IKEA's website, their vision is "To create a better everyday life for the many people". An interesting fact about IKEA is
that its furniture production consumes one percent of all the wood produced on earth (Bhasin). The site goes on to explain how they optimize their
entire value chain to provide affordable quality to their customers. IKEA expanded into China and other countries so that they could continue to
attain their goal of creating "a better everyday life for the many people". A unique aspect with IKEA is their product packaging. The product is a flat
package, so it is easy for the consumers to take the product home and assemble it themselves. Challenges and Barriers Economic A significant portion
of IKEA's market strategy is to price their product so that they are affordable to customer. IKEA quickly determined that their "low price" in existing

How Companies Can Be Affected And Succeed From A Home At...
Introduction
The introduction on this case is about how companies can be affected and succeed from the beginning of it life and continuance. It is that there are
going to be problems, critics, competitor, and people that are going to want to be part of the organization. In being stakeholders of the company the
decision must be crucial and to the longevity of the company. Business created from duration. All though it is a repeating cycle, it is an addition to
society, the environment and communities. It is a way to keep everyone busy so that the needs and wants of people addressed. The entrepreneurship
established from a home to the commercial environment.
The stakeholders of this case are the management crew along with the people and group that affect or affected by the decisions policies and operation
of the company. The main stakeholder in this case was Ingvar Kamprad who founded the store at the age of 17. With an entrepreneur spirit, Ingvar
started a mail order business. The business shows success through furniture for the IKEA store. IKEA employed Marianne Barner as the business
manager of IKEA. Her job was to make decision for the company.
At this time, the decision was on child labor. The problem was coming from a supplier of Indian rugs. The supplier had a small part in the business
and the decision to use the rug because of their process came from the stakeholders of German TV station. At the age of 70 years, old Ingvar also had

The vision of the company is to create a better everyday life. Its operating goals are the following; to provide ideas for home furnishings, to create a
highly efficient sales department, to serve customers well, and to give the customer the idea that a day of shopping at IKEA is an event for the entire
family. In comparison to other company's and its competitors the core competency for the company is self–serving method. (Daft, 2013, p.287–288)
In looking at Porter's competitive strategy, a company can take one of two leadership approaches, differentiation or low–cost. The differentiation
approach focuses on distinctiveness and innovation, on the other hand, low–cost leadership focuses on efficiency, an increased market share and
low–costs compared to its competitors.
IKEA focuses on the low–cost leadership strategy due to the beliefs and vision of the creator of the company, Ingvar Kamprad. IKEA puts into action
this low cost strategy by buying in bulk and selling it back to the consumer at a low profit, so that the savings is passed on to the customers who
purchase their goods. Now, we must also remember that the low–cost leader strategy has two different areas in which it can emphasize; broad and
narrow, the narrow scope has a limited product range whereas a broad scope has many different items. IKEA has a broad scope in which allows it to
reach a larger target

Global Home-Furnishing Retailers: IKEA
Introduction Known as one the largest global home–furnishing retailers, IKEA currently has over 139,000 employees located in 53 countries and
generates roughly 39.3 billion US dollars in annual sales (IKEA, 2014). Ingvar Kamprad began selling different types of items and founded the
company in Agunnaryd, Sweden in 1943. Kamprad found that his greatest entrepreneurial opportunity was in furniture. Many households at that time
were changing from receiving furniture that was handed down to desiring new, inexpensive, and stylish furniture. Kamprad was able to find a business
opportunity to change the current social situation since a lot of the furniture was priced high at the time. He wanted to be able to offer his customers a

Ten stores had opened up in West Germany by 1979 and the company continued to open several stores around Europe through the 1980s. From
there, stores began opening up worldwide. IKEA opened its first store in Canada in 1979 and then began moving into the United States, which
seemed to be the largest furniture market in the world. In 1987, IKEA began opening stores in the United Kingdom. Its first store was in London and
was the largest home furnishing store in the country Management Processes and Effectiveness Kamprad used his personal view on life to create the
management processes for IKEA. He felt IKEA's spirit contained enthusiasm, simplicity in behavior, cost consciousness, constant will to renew and
humbleness before the task. A clear management style and organization culture was shaped for all stores around the world. The overall environment
was open, informal and relaxed. This type of environment put employees at ease but also placed more stress on the management team to perform
their best. It was stressed that the processes for management be simple yet detailed. Managers were to work in warehouses, stores and showrooms to
have a full understanding of the companies operations. Cost consciousness was another process to be followed by management. They were not to
waste resources and they were to ensure the price tag of new ideas were kept to a minimum. Kamprad felt that by

Artifacts and Creations The most visible level is artifacts and creations. This level of culture is observable. Artifacts include any visible, verbally
or touchable definable elements in an organisation, such as interior design, decoration, dress code and staff uniform, even speech. All may be
visible standards of culture, but difficult to interpret. Artifacts and creations also may make people know what a group is achieving. 2. Values and
Beliefs Values and beliefs is a level next to visibility. They are the organisation 's stated values and rules of behavior. But they are not directly
observable, as behaviors are. It is how the members represent the organisation both to themselves and to others. This is often expressed in
philosophies and public identity. It can sometimes often be a reflection for the future, of what the members hope to become. Examples of this would
be employee professionalism. Problems may arise if espoused values by leaders are not in link with the general assumptions of the culture. 3. Basic
Assumptions Basic assumptions is in the deeply core of a culture, it help us to understand a organisational culture. It is deeply embedded,
taken–for–granted behaviors which is usually unconscious, but constitute the essence of culture. These assumptions are typically so well integrated in
the office dynamic that they are hard to explain from within. Schein contends

It is the parent company of Inter IKEA Holding S.A. in Luxembourg. The Inter IKEA Holding S.A. is the worldwide franchisor of the IKEA
concept and it owns the IKEA brand. In exchange to open an IKEA store and use its products and brand name, every store has to pay a 3% royalty
fee over the total revenue of the store to the Inter IKEA Holding S.A.. These royalties are directly paid from the profits of the INGKA Holding
S.A.. The beneficiaries are not made public but it is not hard to conclude that the biggest part flows directly into the hands of the Kamprad family
members since they are the only shareholders of the Inter IKEA Holding S.A.. Another small part of the incomes goes to the Interogo Foundation.
The Interogo Foundation is controlled by a board of directors which solely exists of external board members. The Kamprad family act as a watchdog
to prevent any decision which are not in line with their vision of how IKEA should be ruled and in which form IKEA should exist. The Interogo
Foundation has the aim to invest in the expansion and continuity of IKEA. Therefore, all the funds that are owned by the Interogo Foundation may
only be used when Inter IKEA Holding S.A. has financial problems. The only exception for a partly–withdrawal of the funds is when there has to be
spend a small amount on philanthropic charities to remain eligible as a foundation. This leads again to lower tax payments. Due to the existence of
the Inter IKEA Holding S.A. has Ingvar Kamprads plan to keep IKEA a family business succeeded. The Kamprad family are the owners of the Inter

Innovation At Ike The Congruence Model
Innovation at Ikea
The congruence model includes useful components for developing a strategy that identifies and fixes organizational problems. Santoku, 2013 describe
this model as "a roadmap for developing strategy reflective of a competitive environment and considering the role of the company in supporting any
overall execution". The first step in the organizational design is to understand the components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how
they relate.
For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA's founder, used his environment situation to start his furniture
business. His business maneuvers were influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to
self–assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its customers. Essentially, Kamprad's environment provided
new market opportunities.
It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways: terrorist threats alarmed many people and they
found it essential to renovate their home into a safe haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or
renovation. These factors imposed a demand for easily assembled and inexpensive furniture, which IKEA offers.
Next, resources, which I believe IKEA signifies as important to the organization, because they have a close corporate culture in place. At this

A Different Approach About Ikea's Success
A different approach about Ikea's success is given by Sara Kristofferson in her book Designed by Ikea, London 2014. In the first chapter, Kristofferson
refers to the relationship between the swedish goverment and Ikea.
Swedes love Ikea and Ikea itself shows its origins by his colors, his democratic policy and even the food they serve inside of their stores. In one way
we could assert that Ikea sells the "swedishness" through its products and it does that by using narratives, that might not be always true, but they help
us to remember and associate Ikea with Sweden.
Ikea has powerful connections with Swedish government and swedish people, indeed no other companies in the world represents so well the country of
origin and its traditions.
It is from this colossal and so appreciated company that this essay aims to rise a more critical discussion around Frugal Innovation in general, and the
personal interest that companies gain from this apparently "healthy" term.
The doubtful sides of a "healthy" mood.

The author asserts that expecially after the second world war, it was a really common trend in USA to use some of asian products like a Tatami for
example, in order to make their home more exotic.
Now this is for the author a completely nosense and ridiculous expedient, because Japanese appartments has been designed to be integrated with the

Ikea Essay
List the various ways in which IKEA has managed its global environment over time.
IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943. Today IKEA is one of the largest furniture chains in the world with three hundred and fifteen stores
operating in twenty seven countries. IKEA has managed its Global Environment in the three major ways which has contributed to its great success.
These ways are as follows:
1.Ingvar Kamprad was able to identify the changing trend in consumer wants and adapted his products to these evolving needs. Consumers wanted well
designed and well–made furniture at an affordable price. IKEA was able to reduce its cost through developing internal departments to complete task
which are usually outsourced by its competitors.
2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IKEA has developed its own manufacturing department which is less costly than outsourcing or purchasing processed pieces from outside. Customers
purchase furniture in "flat pack" packages which is assembled by the customer themselves. This lack of assembly removed the cost of hiring
employees to assemble piece then sell it. (IKEA, 2015)
IKEAs organizational culture and reputation is known around the world. The organization is built in a culture of hearts and IKEA values; hard work,
tough challenges and common sense. IKEA is built on the philosophy that all stakeholders play a vital part in the company's success. The customer
group of stakeholders are provided with low cost furniture which meets their needs. Good customer service and reliable products creates brand loyalty
which results in customer satisfaction and repeat purchases.
Employees of IKEA are treated with respect and emphasis is placed in them being an essential part of the organization. Employees are given training,
above average pay and a generous bonus structure. Promotions are given to employees who thrive in the company. (Jones, 2013)
Management and owners are responsible for maintaining IKEA's global values and norms. Management are not spoilt with lavish executive perks and
most of top management have risen from within the company. Each year managers are required to work a week in either a store or

Ikea 's Global Sourcing Challenge Indian Rugs And Child Labor
IKEA'S GLOBAL SOURCING CHALLENGE INDIAN RUGS AND CHILD LABOR
In 1995, Marianne Barner, IKEA's manager for carpets, faced a difficult situation when one of their Indian rug supplier apparently was involved with
the use of child labor in the manufacture of its products for IKEA. Even though they had a contract where IKEA explicitly forbid the use of child labor.
These Allegations generated mixed opinion regarding the future of all the Indian carpet suppliers and the company was studying the future impacts of
its decision.
In order to assess and give recommendations to IKEA, it is important to fully understand the operations and the values that drive the company, ant its
philosophy. Since was founded in 1954 by Ingvar Kamprad the Swedish company's vision of "creating a better life for the many people" inspired them
to develop high quality and lower cost products in the furniture business, and almost a decade later, after they consolidate in the Swedish market, they
made the decision to expand abroad opening stores in Northway and Denmark respectively (Exhibit 1). With a relatively rapid expansion the company
needed to transmit their unique philosophy and created the testament of a furniture Dealer and trained ambassadors to help spread and secure the firm's
values (Exhibit 3). Furthermore, IKEA's adopted another principle, the company preferred to focus on establish close ties with business partners and

discuss which is more important to it maintaining and developing relationships in the U.S. market. Notably, IKEA founderIngvar Kamprad, started the
business in 1943, as a mail–order business. However, in 1948 Ingvar started exploring making furniture, in 1951 IKEA's first catalog was published.
Moreover, in 1953 the first showroom opens, by 1955 IKEA is designing its own furniture. Additionally, in 1958 the first brick and mortar store
opens in Sweden. Consequently, from the late 50's to early 60's Ingvar accomplished some successes and losses. Nevertheless, by the 1970's the first
IKEA store opened outside of Sweden, in the 80's Ingvar realized he needed to plan for international expansion. Therefore, according to IKEA.com
(n.d.), Ingvar separated the ownership of the retail operation from the ownership of the concept and the IKEA brand – to keep these separate roles in
independent business groups, operating under a franchise system. Furthermore, Ingvar Kamprad thus donated a large number of the operating
companies to a Dutch Foundation, the INGKA Foundation, which today owns many of the IKEA franchisees. Consequently, the franchise business

The Impact Of Environmental Performance On The Consumption...
Companies face a multitude of challenges when it comes to Supply Chain management ranging from profitability and cost management to visibility
and customer satisfaction. With the increased awareness of environmental practices, there is an expectation that businesses should evolve to be more
environmentally conscious. As stated from a 1987 Brundtland Report known as "Our Common Future", (WCED, 1987) sustainable development is one
that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The influence of environmental
performance is a growing decision criteria for customers in the consumption of products/services. This is evident from a survey conducted by the
Natural Marketing Institute (Kaiser, 2008) which reveals that 30 percent of American consumers are willing to pay 20 percent more for products made
in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.
A growing number of companies are working towards incorporating environmental and socially responsible business practices to their value chains,
from suppliers to customers. By doing so, the not only tackle the many risks, social and environmental, and challenges inherent in supply chain
management, but also reap the many benefits that supply chain sustainability can offer.

Characteristics Of Ikea
ase Study – IKEA
1. In what ways is Ingvar Kamprad a manager? In what ways is he a leader?
As the president of IKEA, Kamprad has undoubtedly done a great job of management on his business empire. As Michael K. McCuddy mentioned in
the article, Kamprad has his management philosophy. He encourages his employees always asking themselves why they are doing these works and
how they can do differently instead of following traditional methods, which can be applied not only in large matters but daily tasks. For instance, one
of the distinct features with IKEA is its flatpack idea, which was invented accidentally. From this small case, we can see their employees work with a
full of passion rather than work like a robot. This is what Kamprad, as an excellent manager, teaches their employees about problem–solving (Nelson &
Quick 187). Kamprad certainly has many characteristics of an ideal leader. Firstly, he is using himself as an example to show his employees. Even
though he is the president of the company, he still strictly adheres rules and lives frugally, which can literally convince all employees and form a
positive atmosphere within the company. As we see in the article, managers of IKEA are spontaneously saving money while making business trips.
Secondly, he dares to admit his mistakes in front of all his employees. This positive behavior can efficiently infuse employees an idea that they should
face their own mistakes and improve them instead of escaping from their mistakes. Finally, Kamprad has an authentic leadership trait in the recent
leadership theories (Nelson & Quick 199). Kamprad as the leader of the IKEA family, no matter internal or external, shows consistent in his positive
behavior in front of people such as admitting his mistakes and frugality, which represents a leader's transparency. All of these personality traits make
him become a charismatic leader of IKEA.
2. Describe the nature of followership that Kamprad seems to have encouraged at IKEA
The followership refers the guideline and direction that employees receive from their leaders. There are three key points that Kamprad uses to
encourage his employees. The first point is based on the family business model, which means that the owner

equality, communication, cooperation, trust and consensual decision making are vital elements in the concept. Managers are focused on their

of the organization. Swedish managers are indeed focused on human resources and are practicing Scandinavian management. Scandinavian
management is necessary on the Swedish market as it increases the chances for having a productive company with satisfied employees and customers.
Kamprad laid the foundation of his empire using his views on life. The "IKEAN Spirit" was founded on enthusiasm, a constant will to renew, cost
consciousness, willingness to assume responsibility, and humbleness before the task. The organizational atmosphere was very informal, effort was
made to veer away from status and convention. Simplicity was practiced at all levels but managers were expected to completely understand the store's
operations. Having such a distinct corporate culture that had to be imposed, IKEA favored young employees. They did not hire people who had

worldwide. The Swedish heritage can be seen in many of IKEA's characteristics: from the design of the furniture. IKEA's vision is to "Keep
continuing for a better everyday life of IKEA's customer". (IKEA official website) In 1951, sales of furniture dominated the inventory and IKEA
decided to focus exclusively on low–priced furniture. IKEA also recognizes edging up his competitive advantage it is later proofed that it is a

Ingvar Kamprad vs Steve Jobs Essay
Ingvar Kamprad and Steve Jobs are two people that have set their footmark forever on this planet. Ingvar Kamprad is founder of the great furniture
empire, IKEA. Steve Jobs is best known as one of the co–founders of Apple, the most valuable company on earth. Both these business gurus are huge
role models of mine and have definitely changed my way of thinking in several ways.
Mr. Kamprad could be any 85–year–old white man with his faded coat, tinted prescription glasses and scuffed shoes; he looks like just another
pensioner scraping by on a tight budget. Even though Steve Jobs left us as a 65 year old, together with his famous black mock turtleneck, blue mom
jeans and cheap tennis shoes, they both shared a simple way of dressing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steve dropped college after only one semester and started to take a few part time jobs. In 1975, he worked for a video/computer company but
suddenly decided for a 7 months trip to India in search of spiritual enlightenment. He came back to the US and started to experiment with psychedelics
and according to a book, Steve called his LSD experiences "one of the two or three most important things done in my life." After experimenting, he
went back to the video/computer company and worked there once again. Steve and his computer friend Stephen Wozniak shared the same passion for
computers and after they assembled their first computer, Apple Computer Company was born. The company was born in SteveВґs garage 1976, and
they continued to build several computers. People were hired, upgrades to bigger facilities were made and salesmen went great. Four years after
Apples birth the company was worth $200 million. After a dispute between Steve and his employees, his own creation fired him. In revenge he started
another computer company called NeXT and also bought the famous animation studio Pixar which he shaped from only being a simple dough to the
most delightful pastry. Unlike Pixar, NeXT went bad but so did Apple. Steve convinced Apple to buy NeXT in order to compete with Microsoft and
years after that he returned to Apple as a CEO and turned the company into what it is today, the most valuable company in the world (Internet). On the

  • 2. Role of Culture and Ikea Introduction – Company Background IKEA furnitures, privately held, international, low–cost home products are an inevitable part of interior furnishings at many houses in the world. IKEA furnitures are marked for its modern utilitarian design. The company has 260 retail outlets around the world and more new stores are on the line to be opened in 2008 (Dhanyasree, 2007). IKEA was founded in 1943 by a 17–year–old Ingvar Kamprad in Smaland, south of Sweden. IKEA formed its name from the founder 's initials (I.K.) plus the first letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, the farm and village where he grew up from a farmer to a businessman. IKEA wants its coworkers to feel important so that they will be able to express their ideas and feel responsible for improving the way things are done (Larsson, Brousseau, Driver, Holmqvist & Tarnovskaya, 2003). Because it had such a strong and unique culture, IKEA preferred not to recruit those who had already been immersed in another cultural stream. Nor was higher education necessary or even advantageous in IKEA. "The Stockholm–raised, highly educated, status–oriented individuals often find it difficult to adjust to the culture of the company", remarked one executive. He named the company after the initials of his first and last name and the first letter of the farm and hometown he grew up in (Bhasin). In the years following, the Swedish furniture giant has grown to 328 stores in 28 countries as of August 2015. This includes 1.9 billion visits to IKEA.com, 771 million store visits, 213 million catalogs printed in 32 languages and 155,000 co–workers across 6 continents. According to IKEA's website, their vision is "To create a better everyday life for the many people". An interesting fact about IKEA is that its furniture production consumes one percent of all the wood produced on earth (Bhasin). The site goes on to explain how they optimize their entire value chain to provide affordable quality to their customers. IKEA expanded into China and other countries so that they could continue to attain their goal of creating "a better everyday life for the many people". A unique aspect with IKEA is their product packaging. The product is a flat package, so it is easy for the consumers to take the product home and assemble it themselves. Santoku, 2013 describe this model as "a roadmap for developing strategy reflective of a competitive environment and considering the role of the company in supporting any overall execution". The first step in the organizational design is to understand the components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how they relate. For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA's founder, used his environment situation to start his furniture business. His business maneuvers were influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to self–assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its customers. Essentially, Kamprad's environment provided new market opportunities. It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways: terrorist threats alarmed many people and they found it essential to renovate their home into a safe haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or renovation. These factors imposed a demand for easily assembled and inexpensive furniture, which IKEA offers. This assignment, will discuss whether value or image is the biggest reason for IKEA's success. Additionally, I will discuss which is more important to it maintaining and developing relationships in the U.S. market. Notably, IKEA founderIngvar Kamprad, started the business in 1943, as a mail–order business. However, in 1948 Ingvar started exploring making furniture, in 1951 IKEA's first catalog was published. Companies face a multitude of challenges when it comes to Supply Chain management ranging from profitability and cost management to visibility and customer satisfaction. With the increased awareness of environmental practices, there is an expectation that businesses should evolve to be more environmentally conscious. As stated from a 1987 Brundtland Report known as "Our Common Future", (WCED, 1987) sustainable development is one that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The influence of environmental performance is a growing decision criteria for customers in the consumption of products/services. This is evident from a survey conducted by the Natural Marketing Institute (Kaiser, 2008) which reveals that 30 percent of American consumers are willing to pay 20 percent more for products made in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. • 23. Characteristics Of Ikea ase Study – IKEA 1. In what ways is Ingvar Kamprad a manager? In what ways is he a leader? As the president of IKEA, Kamprad has undoubtedly done a great job of management on his business empire. As Michael K. McCuddy mentioned in the article, Kamprad has his management philosophy. He encourages his employees always asking themselves why they are doing these works and how they can do differently instead of following traditional methods, which can be applied not only in large matters but daily tasks. For instance, one of the distinct features with IKEA is its flatpack idea, which was invented accidentally. From this small case, we can see their employees work with a full of passion rather than work like a robot. This is what Kamprad, as an excellent manager, teaches their employees about problem–solving (Nelson & Quick 187). Kamprad certainly has many characteristics of an ideal leader. Firstly, he is using himself as an example to show his employees. Even though he is the president of the company, he still strictly adheres rules and lives frugally, which can literally convince all employees and form a positive atmosphere within the company. As we see in the article, managers of IKEA are spontaneously saving money while making business trips. Secondly, he dares to admit his mistakes in front of all his employees. This positive behavior can efficiently infuse employees an idea that they should face their own mistakes and improve them instead of escaping from their mistakes. Finally, Kamprad has an authentic leadership trait in the recent leadership theories (Nelson & Quick 199). Kamprad as the leader of the IKEA family, no matter internal or external, shows consistent in his positive behavior in front of people such as admitting his mistakes and frugality, which represents a leader's transparency. All of these personality traits make him become a charismatic leader of IKEA. 2.
