  13. 13. Music Video Breakdown: Kanye West ft. Rihanna - All Of The Lights I am going to choose one of Kayne West’s song out of the three I have looked at, I will pause them throughout the duration of the video and screen shot them so I can analyse them according to what I am looking at. Immediately the start of the film is The medium shot shows us where she is but This shot gives us a clear idea of where the video is giving us something to read, the doesn’t take the focus right off of her, we set and how the song will revolve around the black and white effect shows us are able to tell that she is completely on her atmosphere. We as the audience instantly think of that this maybe isnt suppose to own, which gives a proffered reading of danger, gangs and violence when we see and estate resemble a recent era but a past danger or loneliness and uncared for. like this, the fact that it is in black and white too memory. gives it a more gritty run down feeling. This distant shot gives us a clear view to This is a close up shot, it shows a very where she is, ‘the light at the end of the clear expression on her face which tells Editing was used here, fast change of tunnel’ also shows us a visual image of us of the atmosphere she must be in. colour made everything look confusing the term commonly used when and disorientated, I think this was meant something good is going to come out of to give an example of how the little girl is something you have done, whereas this feeling. doesn’t look like its going to happen in the previous shots we have seen in the video. Becky Youngs
  14. 14. Here I print screened four shots Here editing has been used for the writing, a black background has been used so that and categorized them together, the writing stands out clearly. Several effects have been used to make the writing travel there was editing used here to in and out of the shot. Big Bold text is used for two of the shots and a hazy light effect make the words flick between is used for the last one. one another at a fast pace. This is a medium close up of This shot shows him on a police car, this In this shot of Rihanna shows that her part inKayne, it shows him on a simple could connotate violence and rebellious the video is too look sexual and seductive.background so the main focus is on attitudes. 15. 15. The lighting used here changes in a very fast repetitive motion, this This is a close up shot of the little girl makes it eye catching and we want to watch more. The songs title we have previously seen in the video, it ‘All of the Lights’ relates to these shots. There are both medium and shows her looking as though she is close up shots used here. The first print screen is a medium shot, it certain to where she is and doesn’t look shows the main part of his body including the torso and his face, he is threatened which is how we saw her pointing towards us so this obviously needs to be noticed. The before. seconds print screen is a close up shot of him singing, it focuses on his face and accessories this could connote either a important moment in the song or wealth (accessories). There has been editing used here, it This shot shows Kayne dancing, the fading ofshows the word ‘lights’ moving out him moving gives a clear example of theslowly, Rihanna behind with a editing used, the above shot used shows us aedited pink shade shows her clear view of him and his emotions he lookssinging, there is a lot going on in happy and this shows us a clear difference fromthis shot at the same time so keeps what we saw at the beginning of the musicour attention. video.
