3. BUDDY HOLLY
Charles Hardin Holley, who is also known as Buddy Holly,
was an American musician and singer-songwriter who was a
central figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. He learned to play a
guitar and to sing alongside his siblings. His style was
influenced by gospel music, country music and rhythm and
blues acts. He made his first appearance on local television
in 1952, and the following year he formed the group "Buddy
and Bob" with his friend Bob Montgomery. In 1955, after
opening for Elvis Presley, Holly decided to pursue a career in
music. He opened for Presley three times that year; his
band's style shifted from country and western to entirely rock
and roll. In October that year, when he opened for Bill Haley
& His Comets, Holly was spotted by Nashville scout Eddie
Crandall, who helped him get a contract with Decca Records.
4. RICHARD CHARACTER
Richard is a happy character who is always jolly and so we
wanted to reflect this in the choice of song to be played in his
van as he is driving along the moorland road. Also, we didn’t
want to pick a song which was released this decade as
Richard’s age range is 50-60. We chose a song which is
something Richard would have listened to in his childhood -
the song ‘Not Fade Away’ was released in the 1957 and we
felt that the song would fit the character’s jolly personality.
5. WHY ?
We chose the song ‘ Not Fade Away’ which was sung and
released by Buddy Holly in 1957 because we felt that this
upbeat song represents Richard’s jolly personality well.
Furthermore, Richard is a friendly character and we wanted
to reflect this personality trait in the song. One particular lyric
within the song stood out and we thought could relate to
Richard’s situation “ you’re gonna give your love to me”, the
person Buddy Holly is referring to is someone he loves, and
Richard is married and he would think of his wife while
singing a long to this song.
