Injustice In A Thousand Splendid Suns
How would you feel being born into a life where you were treated differently because of a crime your parents committed? A Thousand Splendid
Suns is a novel written by Khaled Hosseini in 2007. The novel, set in Kabul, Afghanistan follows the life of Mariam, an illegitimate child born out of
wedlock. And Laila, a young girl who becomes an orphan after her parents are tragically killed. Throughout the novel, it talks about the teaching of
the Koran by Mullah Faizullah and others. Even though the Koran is taught in A Thousand Splendid Suns, the Koran's passages on the treatment of
illegitimate children are not practiced through the novel. The Koran says that one may not carry the punishments of those who preceded them, a
command that is not portrayed when it comes to Mariam not being allowed into the house. "He betrayed us, your beloved father. He cast us out. He
cast us out of his big fancy house like we were nothing to him. He did it happily." (Hosseini 5) The book (in Mariam's case) shows... Show more content

"She did not know what this word Harami – Bastard – meant. Nor was she old enough to appreciate the injustice, to see that it is the creators of the
harm who are culpable, not the harami, whose only sin is being born." Illegitimate children often are made outcasts and shunned by the rest of society.
They are constantly reminded that they occupy the lowest rung on the social ladder in Afghanistan. "And find not fault with one another, neither revile

The Koran
The Historical foundation of Islam and the Koran is rooted in Arabia. This now major world religion is based upon the teachings of Muhammad who
is considered and called the
Prophet. Muslims, whom are the followers of these teachings view the Koran as the speech of god to Muhammad, mediated by Gabriel, the angel of
revelation. The outcome of these revelations by Muhammad became the basis for all beliefs of the Islamic tradition.
He was inspired to preach what he had learned and over time, he gained much support as well as opposition. To Muslims, The Koran is their guide to
life and living. It is the primary source for
Islamic law. It clearly outlines what is right and wrong and makes recommendations for how to live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are to live amongst them peacefully and love and kindness should be in our hearts. (30:21) This clearly illistrates how important love is
between people and how it is of major importance. The guidelines for love of one another is clearly spelled out and has specific requirements. Men
are supposed to turn away from temptation and wicked desires in order to make their lives purer because God is aware of all their actions. Women
are required to do the same but in terms of their attire. They are required to be covered except for where it is necessary which would be their eyes:
"not to display their adornments; to draw their veils over their bosoms and not to display thier finery except to their..." (24:31)
The passage continues with a list of who is permitted to view them uncovered which consists of their husbands, fathers, sons as well as other specific
individuals. The idea of community refers to a group sharing the same interests and living together in harmony. This is a clear and essential part of
living according to the Koran:
"We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you might get to know one another. The noblest of you in
God's sight is he who is most righteous. (49:13) This states the essential idea that humanity should live together, not fight or bicker and be as one. This

The Basics of Islam
The religion of Islam is primarily centered on achieving peace and surrendering the self to the will of God or Allah and His Law. Islam began
forming into the religion it is today under a prophet named Muhammad who became the final prophet of God, The Seal of the Prophets.
Although known as The Seal of Prophets, Muslims believe that he was only a man chosen by Allah, as a messenger and teacher of living for God.
Before faced with a mission from God, Muhammad saw his society collapse and social order being built upon corruption, so he spent fifteen years
pondering the divine and laying down the spiritual groundwork for his own ministry. After much studying, he concluded that Allah is the one and only
creator, and provider of the world; "there is no God, but Allah." The new ministry of Muhammad began with the journey to a mountain in Mecca,
where Allah asked him to cry out the His name and teachings to the people, therefore leading to a ministry of praise and reform by the final prophet.
Through various times throughout Muhammad's life, he began to hear and convey messages that would later be orally passed down and formed into
the Koran; he was to teach the revelation, speak the revelation put into practice, so that others may see God as the one and only. Muhammad would
continue to proclaim that the Koran was the only miracle performed through him. Like other prophets, Muhammad faced difficulties and rejection
during his ministry by the government; first, only mockery of

The Koran
The Koran reveals many truths to the people of the Islamic faith. However, some ideas are outdated for current times because of the inequality they
create among the difference of peoples. The most prevalent of these ideas is the difference between the roles and treatment of men and women. In a
Muslim society, the men are given more rights to freedom than women because of the word written in The Koran. For example, women within the
Muslim culture are required to follow the law of Hijab, which requires themselves to cover the entirety of their body in fabric as to not attract the
gaze of male eyes. Evidence of these rules exist in Surah 24, verse 31, where it states, "Enjoin believing women to turn their eyes away from
temptation and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is demonstrated in Surah four, which states, "You people! Fear your lord, who created you from a single soul. From that soul He created its
spouse and through them He bestrewed the earth with countless men and women." (pg. 50) The fact that men and women originated from the same
soul begs the question as to why women are inferior to their spiritual counter–parts. In Christianity, women are made from Man's rib, which could allow
for some sort of inferiority complex between man and woman because woman are thought to only be a piece of the "original" male body that God
created. However, women are not thought of as this tremendously inferior throughout their spiritual tradition, but there is still some resemblance of
inferiority within the actual church. Islam preaches that even though the two are created from the same undeniably holy soul that one must obey the
other without question. This fundamental truth contradicts the statuses of man and woman because their souls are equal, but they are not. It is
thought of in most religions that our soul is the purest most holy part of our existence, so believing that Islam is one of the world's largest religions,
it is hard to fathom why women are forced to be so obedient to man. However, this could also be an earlier revelation of Muhammad, or perhaps like the
bible's new testament, it was a

Thematic Essay On Christianity And Islam
Without listing all the common points between Christianity and Islam, we can summarize that Christianity and Islam have the same common aspect in
terms of their conception of God, Jesus, sin, faith, forgiveness, God's Word and the Holy Spirit, God's providence, in the worldwide community of
believers joined together by common faith and purpose, in the sharing of God giving possessions, and in the final judgement:
пѓ Christians and Muslims believe in one God, creator of heaven and earth, and every human being, that he revealed his will in the holy book (Bible
or Koran). The Day of Judgment at the end of time, God will call each one of us for giving his account.
пѓ The Koran and the Bible tell us that Jesus was sent by God to Israel. The two call him "Christ". He was born of the Virgin Mary, he called the
Jews to faith, he went up to heaven and he will return to the earth at the end of time.
пѓ The Koran and the Bible emphasize that God's will is that men believed in him and live according to His commandments. Whoever transgresses
these commandments cannot be forgiven by God's mercy. The Koran as Bible promises eternal life to those who believe.

Muslims confess that God is one (Koran 112: 1–4). He has no partner (Koran 6: 22–24) or son (Koran 2:16; 19: 35). God is so much transcendent that
he comes in contact with humankind that through his word as it is contained in the Koran. If from this point of view, the Islamic conception of God
contains some accents of the Biblical revelation, on the other hand, Muslims reject the Biblical truths which Christians consider to be a central element
for their faith as we will see it in the following section of this study. However, Muslims believe in the virgin birth of Jesus, in his miracles, his
ascension into heaven by God and his return to the earth before judgment

Essay Major Themes of the Koran
Major Themes of the Koran
I. NATURE AND PURPOSE OF THE KORAN
This is the Book, in which there is no doubt, a guide for the God–fearing, who believe in the unseen and perform the prayer and spend of that which
We have bestowed upon them, and who believe in that which is revealed unto thee [Muhammad] and that which was revealed before thee, and are
certain of the Hereafter. [2:2–4]
It is a glorious Koran, on a guarded tablet. [85:21–22]
Lo! We have revealed it, a Koran in Arabic, that ye may understand. [12:2]
This is naught else than a reminder and a lecture making plain, to warn whosoever liveth, and that the word may be fulfilled against the disbelievers.
[37:69–70]

[17:45–46]
In truth, We have made the Koran easy to remember, but is there any that remembereth? [54:17]
This Koran could not have been forged apart from God; but it is a confirmation of that which was before it and an exposition of that which is decreed
for mankind. Therein is no doubt, from the Lord of the Worlds. [10:37]
II. GOD AND HIS UNITY
Say, He is God, One, God the Eternal. He begetteth not nor is He begotten, and there is none equal unto Him. [112:1–4]
Your God is One God; there is no god but He, the Compassionate, the Merciful. [2:163]
God! There is no God but He, the Ever–living, the Ever–subsisting. Slumber seizeth Him not nor sleep. To Him belongeth whatsoever is in the
Heavens and whatsoever is in the Earth. Who is he that shall intercede with Him, unless by His permission? He knoweth what [hath been] before them
and what [shall be] after them, and they shall not compass aught of His knowledge save what He willeth. His Throne comprehendeth the Heavens and
the Earth, and the care of them burdeneth Him not. He is the High, the Great. [2:255]
Verily, God will not forgive the associating with Him [any other being as a god], but will forgive other sins unto whom He pleaseth; and whoso
associateth [another] with God hath wrought a great wickedness.

Bible Vs. Koran Essay
The Bible and The Koran
A Comparative Analysis Christianity and Islam have several similar aspects. Both religions praise the same God, although they each have a different
given name. Muslims refer to their god as Allah, and Christians simply refer to their god as God. Both religions are monotheistic, and both even have
a set of religious laws that all who are righteous abide by. Muslims follow the Five Pillars of Islam, while Christians follow the Ten Commandments.
Both religions even have their own religious texts: The Bible and The Koran. Christian missionaries declare that The Bible consists of true narratives
based on actual revelations, and establish that the Prophet Muhammad is an imposter. However, it is extremely possible that ... Show more content on

Asadi also stated The Koran eliminated all claims of Joseph being a Hebrew which appeals on a universal level which was intended to bring all
humans to the straight path with God. By not naming any of Joseph's brothers, The Koran focused solely on Joseph, and his faith. The Koran
established Joseph as a prophet who exemplified the test of one's true faith. Yet, in "Genesis" Joseph played a crucial role in the heroic magnitude
of Christianity, and structure of The Bible. Still Joseph's story in The Bible is nothing more than a tale of forgiveness, or reconciliation. In The
Koran, Noah is the first of many important prophets. The Koran gave emphasis to the prophetic aspect of Noah's tasks given to him by God. In short,
Noah's mission as a prophet was to inform the wrongdoers, and to convince them to submit to God. If they refused to do so, Noah threatened them
with anguish and suffering. Regardless, the wrongdoers rejected his warning and shrugged off his threats. Consequently, it became evident to Noah
that his people would never take note of his word of warning. It was then that Noah ordered down God's destruction of all who did not take heed to his
forewarning. 3
An important detail which is explained only in The Koran is that God acknowledged faith over blood. An example of this is Noah's sons' refusal to

Financial Equity Is A Standout Among The Most Critical...
Financial equity is a standout amongst the most critical lessons of Muslims. As indicated by the Qur 'an, the essential mission of all messengers of
God was to set up equity in this world (Al–Hadid 57: 25). Most the Qur 'anic lessons are guided towards empowering individuals to live with each
other in peace and to satisfy their shared commitments genuinely and steadfastly to guarantee equity and general prosperity (falah). Inside the domain
of this mission of the Messengers, the Qur 'an predicts, and which is all well and good, that treachery drives eventually to demolition (Ta–ha 20: 111).
The Qur 'an is one of the two sacred wellsprings of Muslim lessons. The other is the Sunnah, which comprises of the Prophet 's conventions. The

The significance of instruction is over and again accentuated in the Koran with successive directives, for example, "God will magnify those of you
who accept and the individuals who have learning to high degrees" (58:11), "O my Lord! Increment me in information" (20:114), and "As God has
shown him, so let him state" (2:282). Such verses give a commanding boost to the Muslim people group to make progress toward instruction and
learning.
Muslim training is exceptionally unique about different sorts of instructive hypothesis and practice because the comprehensive impact of the Koran.
The Koran fills in as an extensive outline for both the individual and society and as the essential wellspring of information. The coming of the Koran
in the seventh century was very progressive for the transcendently ignorant Arabian culture. Middle Easterner society had delighted in a rich oral
custom, yet the Koran was viewed as the expression of God and should have been naturally connected with by method for perusing and recounting its
words. Henceforth, perusing and composing with the end goal of getting to the full favors of the Koran was a yearning for generally Muslims. In this
manner, training in Islam unequivocally got its starting points from a harmonious association with the religious guideline.
In this way, along these lines, Muslim instruction started. Devout and

Comparison Of Koran And City Of God
The Koran and City of God are both texts that revolve around the same supreme eternal being, God. These texts share the same ultimate reality of
heaven as a paradise. However, the path to achieve these ultimate realities are completely different. The Koran views the ultimate reality as an afterlife
that is achievable through following a strict set of rules, while in City of God, the afterlife is attainable by having righteous intentions. The differences
in the foundation of the ultimate realities affect the relationships that men have with women. In Islam, the most important values are following the
scriptures and keeping commitments. In the Koran, the ideal relationship has the qualities of a business transaction. In the City of God, the sexual and
emotional aspects of a relationship interfere with a man's will and shames him.
In Augustine's City of God, relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of Adam and Eve demonstrates this idea when Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. Augustine states "we cannot believe that the man was
led astray to transgress God's law because he believed that the woman spoke the truth, but that he fell in with her suggestions because they were so
closely bound in partnership" (XIV 12). In Augustine's opinion, Adam's relationship with Eve caused him to stray away from the benevolence of God.
This the most important relationship because they are the original couple and their actions define the rest of humanity.
However, the Koran has a very different view on relationships. The rules of the relationship are written in the text, it states who you can't marry, how
many people you can marry, and the inheritance procedures. The emotional

Noah's Role in the Bible and in the Koran
Christianity and Islam are to very closely related religions, and they share the same origins, and some of the same history. The Koran and the Old
Testament of the Bible are very closely related, in that many of the stories share the same points and characters. One of the overlapping stories is the
story of the Flood. Although the main point or objective of the story is the same the means that each book gets there by is very different. Although in
both Koran and in the Bible, Noah is the messenger to God, he plays opposing roles in each of the stories. The outcome of both though is the same. In

and suggests that He be rid of all the evil doers. So although the role of Noah is different in both books, the point remains the same– show respect and

Creation Myths: Genesis vs. The Koran
Creation myths: Genesis versus the Koran
Creation myths can be profoundly revelatory of the values of the cultures that produce them. They reflect how the culture views its place in the
universe, the relations between the sexes, and above all the relationship of human beings to God. The creation myths of the Judeo–Christian tradition
and Islam share many similarities. Both put human beings squarely in the center of God's creation in terms of His importance, and give Man
dominance over plants and animals to varying degrees. Women's inferior place in society is shown as natural rather than a product of social influences.
However, the centrality of the myth within both cultures is profoundly different. In the Bible, Genesis is the first book, suggesting its central
importance in defining the faith. Man is presented as essentially fallen and sinful in nature, and God's curse upon the race of Adam and humanity's
expulsion from the Garden of Eden is eternal. In the Koran, the creation myth is not presented as a coherent whole, but piecemeal through the larger
text, and there is no reference to an eternal curse for Man's disobedience.
The structure of Genesis, unlike the Koran, is also self–contradictory to some degree. The book of Genesis has become such a clichГѓ©, it is easy to
overlook the two very different creation myths placed side–by–side in Books 1 and 2. The first creation myth is a fairly stately, impersonal account of
how the world came into being while the second is

In my research paper, I will try to argue that the way that Muslim extremists treat women in Islam, couldn't be further away than what the Islam

oppressed by their husbands or family for the sake of religion. Many of those extremists argue that this is the direct word of God and I intend to
prove that it's not. I believe that in order to understand true Islam, we need to go back to the root's and study the original teaching and apply that to
today's society. American's and other westerners think that Muslim women are forced into the dress code of covering from top to bottom, but most of
the Muslim women who dress in the traditional hijab, choose this because they feel so liberated, and quite often, it's a personal choice according to
their own convictions.

The Story of Joseph in the Bible and the Koran Essay
Joseph: From the Hebrew Bible and the Koran
The Bible and the Koran are both glorious books of the world's most flourishing religious cultures, Christianity and Islam respectively. At first glance,
when you read the story of Joseph from the Hebrew bible and the Koran, they fundamentally seem to talk about similar ideals and storylines. They,
however, have some deep seated differences, that may be a little philosophical in nature or might depend on the particular paragraph that we're
comparing.
The story of Joseph in the Bible begins with explanations of Joseph's youth and innocence and how his brothers were jealous of him because he was
the "blessed son". It involves a lot of specifics, like it mentions that Joseph was seventeen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar views are expressed in the Bible but much more subtly.
Moving on to the part where Joseph is cast into the pit by his brothers, one major difference that I noticed is the mention of names in the bible, each
instance and message has a name behind it, the mention of Reuben, Judah, Benjamin etc, this however is missing from the Koran where all the
brothers are referred to as one conglomerate. The mention of the brothers separately is important in this context because clearly Reuben thought
differently than the others and Judah was more like the leader so we can't possibly refer to all of them as one. Further on, in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is
sold off to the Ishmaelites, on the other hand , in the Koran he is " discovered" by passing caravans.
Comparisons can me made by accounting the part where Joseph's master's wife tries to seduce him too; in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is accused
falsely and sent off to prison whereas in the Koran, the master acknowledges that his wife is the cunning one, "This is but one of your tricks. Your
cunning is great indeed! Joseph, say no more about this. Woman, ask pardon for your sin. You have done wrong." (p1448). The consequent
imprisonment of Joseph is slightly different in both the stories too.
While in prison, the interactions Joseph has with the prison mates are

only go into detail about a few. I discuss the importance of the Bible and its significance to Christians, as well as the Koran and its significance to
Muslims. Afterwards, I compare the similarities as well as the differences in the Bible and the Koran, in relation to three chosen events that appear in
both books. I then go on to give a synopsis in the conclusion of my work. Comparisons and Contrasts between the Bible and the Koran The Koran

They also inherited tendencies, which gave them the ability to exercise freewill. God asks Iblis why he does not bow to Adam, and Iblis responds
by saying that he is better than Adam is, because he is made of fire, not clay. After God hears this, he threatens to throw Iblis out the garden. He
tells Iblis that any man that should follow in his footsteps would go to hell. After this God adds Hawa to the garden. Once again, God tells Adam
and Hawa not to eat of the forbidden tree. Encouraged by Iblis' lure, Adam and Hawa both eat of the tree. He then dismisses them from the garden
and sends them both down to Heaven, where he tells them to listen to his messengers. In both books, the same concept is used, but the manner in
which it is used differs. There is a difference in names, a difference in events that proceed and follow the creation, and a difference in the form that
the angels present themselves. The next idea relates to Noah and the Flood. The version of the flood in the Koran differs from that in the Bible in
three ways: the way in which the participants converse, the views of Heaven, and the way in which the flood is depicted and described. These
differences reflect a fundamental variance in the ways in which the two cultures view man's relationship with God. In the Koran, Noah talks to the
people and says, 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord, He is ever ready to forgive you.' In the Bible, the Lord says to Noah, 'Take your whole family with you

The Christian Bible, the Hebrew Scripture, The Muslim Koran: Words are Not Important, Our Actions Are

That's the crucial question: Did God, should God, have intended direct and final communication with us? If so, Jesus certainly failed his mission. There
is little evidence that Jesus' appearance cleared anything up or gave us God directly. Wittgenstein, who wanted our language to be clear, knows well

Heaven obviously contains no single, authorized publishing house. And what is now printed in many instances existed first in oral tradition, that
notoriously changeable and often obscure medium. Some divine czar of communication should have allowed into written form only the authorized
versions, with clear Wittgensteinian definition of all terms. Any authoritarian dictator, bent on preventing discord, could have done a better job, if put
in charge of the divinities' printing house. Thus, as the source of a clear, single, religious creed, all sacred texts are failures. They were too loosely
compiled.
Our divinities either need a course in exposition and writing or they never intended to offer us a clear text in the first place. In God's name, why not?
For Heaven's sake, didn't they realize what confusion would result from their laxity? Wasn't it Nietzsche who remarked: Isn't it strange that, when
God decided to turn author, he should have learned to speak Greek? We have the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, which explains how we came to
have so many obscure and divergent languages. But surely the heavenly U.N. Security Council could have elected to authorize, and to allow us to
speak, only one language, putting all the rest of our vague tongues to shame.

Violence In The Gospel Of Luke And The Koran
For as long as humanity has existed, men have committed violence against one another. Assuredly, Nancy G. Guerra's and Lyndee Knox's entry on
violence in the Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice affirms that, "As historical and cross–cultural records demonstrate, our evolutionary history is laced
with examples of violence. Indeed, paleontological data reveal a rather continuous stream of human violence dating back thousands of years." It is
clear that violence is a part of human nature that has always existed and will likely never be eradicated. One of the aspects that all forms of violence
seem to share is that, societally (in terms, at the very least, of Western societies), they are looked down upon. Consequentially, those who commit violent

This initially comes as something of a shock when one considers the common paradigm of Jesus as a figure of peace who only preaches forgiveness
and nonviolence. One of the most interesting parables in the Gospel of Luke which contradicts this paradigm is one which describes a steward who
is physically violent towards the servants of his master's estate. Commenting on this story, and referring to the abusive steward, Jesus promises that
"his master [God] will come on a day he does not expect and ... will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful" (12. 45–46). Adding to
this, Jesus then continues with, "I have come to bring fire to the earth. Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but
rather division. For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three" (12. 51–52). This quote by Jesus firstly
implies that the violence of the steward toward the servants is unjustified. This implication comes from the vow that God will punish the steward for
his violence. In his article titled "Christian Pharisees and the Scandalous Ethics of Jesus," Patrick Colm Hogan writes that, in this parable, "the steward

Essay Muhammad, by Michael Cook
The book Muhammad, by Michael Cook, describes the impact Muhammad has had on the world as we know it. It explains why Muhammad chose
the paths he did, and how certain laws came about. Cook offers a very objective view of the laws and policies Muhammad outlined in the Koran, and
the traditions that are carried on that supplement his written law.
The author first summarizes the historical life of Muhammad. This begins with his birth and life before he was given his mission. Next comes his
struggle to spread his religion. Since the days of Abraham, people had fallen back to worshipping many Gods. Muhammad's task was to restore
monotheism that Abraham had established. To do this, he had to move to Medina for protection. This whole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is a once in a lifetime deal, shouldn't they spend more time at God's house? I disagree with the author on this point, because every part of the

The Koran places restrictions on one's diet, especially dealing with how which meats one can eat. The Koran tends to illustrate which foods are
forbidden rather than those that one is allowed to eat. The only animal that there is an outright ban on is the pig. As for animals that are permitted,
it specifies the ways that this meat may become forbidden. These ways include eating meat that is already dead, or meat fro an animal that has been
strangled to death. The author goes on to quibble with other ways that a meat may or may not be forbidden; asking if hares, shellfish and lizards are
acceptable foods. Some things need to be left up to common sense. As described, the Koran does a good job laying the ground rules for this area, and
certain things any levelheaded person can figure out for themselves.
Muhammad set rules that restricted women, and Cook takes a critical view of these policies. Women were only entitled to half the inheritance that men
are, polygamy and concubines were allowed, and women were easily divorced. It is true that these notions are absurd in the present day, but it was
common practice in the days Muhammad lived in. In many ways, the Koran took steps to ensure that woman had certain minimal

Women's Role In Ancient Society
Role of women in ancient society Women in The Koran have similar roles compared to The Old Testament. There are views about marriage,
divorce and how the women were involved in them. Women during those societies had many different roles and many of them had similarities with
other views on women. From The Old Testament and Muslim culture, Women in The Old Testament are treated in similar ways compared to The
Koran because of the view on women in society, their rights, and the view of marriage. In The Koran it says "And when We delivered you from
Firon's people, who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your Lord"
(The Koran 3). The women in Muslim society were not tormented compared to the sons during the time. It seemed like people would not try to hurt
women under any circumstance, but they would torment sons (which could be children). The Koran seems to hint on the role of women in the passage

them until they have become clean; then when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you" (The Koran 11). The

Christian missionaries declare that The Bible consists of true narratives
based on actual revelations, and establish that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to The Koran, although he was a man who walked with God, Noah was not a prophet. In The Koran, Noah's sons were unbelievers, but
The Bible portrayed them differently. In fact, all three of Noah's sons entered the ark along with their wives. It was they, along with Noah and his
wife, who Christians claim replenished the earth after the flood. It is hard to believe that only eight people could replenish the entire earth. Another
distinct difference between the stories of Noah in The Bible in and in The Koran is that the Bible speaks of the mixing of races that took place
between the sons of God, and the daughters of man. This was supposedly a very important factor that led to the flood. The Koran, on the other hand,
never mentions anything about race mixing, and according to the creator of "The Bile of The Koran," Savasan Yurtsever, there was no
Culver 4 race mixing at all. In fact, the only reason the flood took place was to punish those who ignored Noah's prophecy.
Lastly, Noah's curse is explained in complete detail in the Bile. The Koran, however, says nothing about any such curse. It is also a claim in The Bible
that the "Mountains of Ararat" as the resting site of Noah's ark. Conversely, "Al–Judi" is where Noah's ark can be found according to The Koran. In
short, the Prophet Noah was given commandments by God just as the Prophet Muhammad was after him. Christians argue that the reason for
similarities between the two stories is because

Comparing The Bible And The Koran
The Bible and the Koran are books that represent and explain the structure of different religions. Though the overlying religion in these two books
are different, the advice given from both religious leaders on being a righteous person are very similar. Specifically, the advice given by Jesus in the
Gospel of Matthew and in the Koran reflect one another in numerous ways. In both pieces of writings, to be a good and righteous person, one must
worship only their God, embrace their faith and act accordingly with good intent and humility. According toJesus in the Gospel of Matthew and the
Koran, being righteous correlates to one's dedication to a single God and their acceptance of faith. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is led through the

The Koran lists the rules and ideal actions of those who choose to follow it's teachings. In regards to worshipping one God, the Koran states, "They
are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will prosper. As to those who reject Faith, it is he same to them whether thou warn them or
do not warn them; they will not believe. Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they
(incur)"(Koran 2:5–7, pg. 35). This quote from the Koran directly states that those who follow their Lord are good and good things will come to
them. It is also vital to notice the correlation between the Lord and faith; thus, the quote is directing the reader to follow their Lord and if they
don't, they are consequently rejecting their faith. The Koran also states, "Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of the
darkness He will lead them forth into light of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from the light they will lead them forth into the
depths of the darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein"(Koran 2:257, pg. 37) which states that you are a righteous person if
you accept your faith and follow Allah. The Koran also compares those who worship other leaders besides Allah in these two examples: "Yet there
are men who take (for worship) others beside Allah, as equal (with Allah). They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are
overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and all will
strongly enforce the penalty"(Koran 2:165, pg.37) and "When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! We shall follow
the ways of our fathers." What! Even though their fathers were void of wisdom

The Koran And The Protestant Bible
The Koran and the Protestant Bible Over the course of this semester, we have talked about the five main religions, each of which containing their
own views, backed by their own scriptures and holy books. Due to a length limit, I am going to outline how the Protestant Bible and the Koran
came to be in order to demonstrate the differences between how these books were created. I do not begin to understand all of the complications on
this topic, nor will all of the arguments that could be made be touched on; however, my critical analysis will include how these books were
manifested, and their unique paths to authentication and being accepted by the people of their religion. To begin, I will talk about the Koran and
how it came to be. Followers of Islam commonly hold to the truth that the Koran was given to the Prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel;
however, this is not recorded anywhere in the Koran itself. It is said that over the course of his lifetime, the angel Gabriel revealed to Mohammed
the words of Allah. Mohammed, being illiterate, would remember the pieces of prophesy and recite it to his scribes, who would then read it back to
him. He would also sometimes show them to Gabriel to make sure they were transcribed correctly. In total, there are 114 suras, or chapters, in the
completed Koran. The entire Koran was completed over Muhammad's lifetime, which was from 570 CE to 632 CE, though he reportedly did not
receive his first visit from Gabriel until he was forty years

Critical Reflection And Intercultural Relations Between...
Deeply embedded in Islam, Maimonides philosophical works engages in critical reflection and analysis of intercultural relations between Jewish and
Muslim traditions and the nature of experiencing the divine. In contrast to his Muslim counterparts however, Maimonides argues against the Muslim
hierarchy by stating that no one could ever surpass Moses or his prophecy. Thus Maimonides indirectly rejects the Muslim belief ofMuhammad, as well
as the Koran, superseding Moses and the Torah. WhileJudaism and Islam share a monotheist theology, their distinctions and theological overlaps of
religious prophecy raises issues of superiority and supremacy in Jewish and Muslim traditions.
According to Annabel Keeler, author of, Moses from a Muslim Perspective, the Koran is the Islamic sacred book, believed to be the direct word of
Allah, as dictated to Muhammad, in which illustrates Muhammad's struggle to spread the belief of G–d, as well as highlights the rejection of the
Jewish people to Allah. Keeler, in explicating the Islamic view of Moses, demonstrates that Moses exhibits several of the major themes in Islamic
tradition, and is therefore mentioned 502 times in the Koran since he is the prophet "whose career as a messenger of God, lawgiver and leader of his
community most closely parallels and foreshadows that of Muhammad". Thus Moses is considered to be a prophetic predecessor to Muhammad, as
well as the pioneer of Muslim prayer since he was the first to establish the practice of

The Koran
The document "the Koran" is written through God's impact on people's present situation and their situation in the next world, which is called the
revelation of God. Further revelations to Muhammad were copied word for word in what came to be the Qur"an, or Koran. The message offered
Arabs a faith founded on a book.
The Koran also tells us that Muhammad was sent to all in order to present a message understandable to everyone in the world, the Koran had to speak a
language that everyone could understand. Muhammad was simply God's messenger and that he merited no special veneration or worship (Kishlansky
211). The Koran had to address the simple and the sophisticated, the shepherd and the philosopher, the scientist and the... Show more content on

It warns those who deny God's message that they will be thrown into the fire of hell, and it promises those who accept the messages that they will be
given the bliss of paradise .
The Koran possesses an obvious power to transform those who try to approach it on its own terms. This is precisely what Islam is all about submission
to the will of God as revealed in the Koran, but this is not simply a voluntary submission. The Koran establishes an existential submission in people so
that they come to express its fundamental message through their mode of being, no matter how "original" their interpretations may be. This
is the purpose of the document and it was intended to persuade and serve ( Kishlansky 145).
The Koran is a book that has its own unique genius. For Westerners, the Koran is an extremely difficult text to appreciate, especially in translation.
Even for those who have spent enough years studying the Arabic language to read the original, the Koran may appear as disorderly, inaccurate, and
illogical. However, there is enough evidence provided by Islamic civilization itself, and by the great philosophers, and poets who have commented on
the text, to be sure that the problem lies on the side of the reader, not the book. The text is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary ever put down
on paper. Precisely because it is extraordinary, it does not follow people's expectations as to what a book should

A Comparison Of Genesis And Genesis
Many stories and fables have been written and passed down from generation to generation about the great flood recorded in Genesis. However,
critics can reason all they want because God created the world, and the creation is not a debatable topic. The Genesis account of the flood came
first; therefore, Gilgamesh, Ovid's Metamorphoses, and The Korans accounts of the flood are all inspired by Genesis. The book of Genesis
inspired the authors of these works of literature to write alterations of their own stories. Gilgamesh, Metamorphoses, and The Koran are all
variations of the account chronicled in Genesis. First, there are numerous similarities between the flood in Gilgamesh and the biblical flood
account found in Genesis chapters six through nine. Foremost, two righteous men are selected to build an ark because of an imminent flood. In
Genesis 6:14, God instructs Noah to "make thee an ark of gopher wood," and in Gilgamesh, an assembly of gods send Utnapishtim to "abandon
[his] home and build a boat" (Gilgamesh 55). In Genesis and in Gilgamesh, both floods are sent because of "the wickedness of man" (King James
Version, Gen. 6.5). Also, God and the gods in Gilgamesh both regret destroying the world by flood. Nevertheless, there are also many differences in
the two stories. Although the two heroes both sent out birds to find land, they sent out different varieties of birds. Noah sent out a raven and three
doves while Utnapishtim released a raven, dove, and a swallow. The blessings that the men receive after the flood were also different. The gods in
Gilgamesh grant Utnapishtim eternal life while Noah's blessing was to "be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth" (King James Version Gen.
9.1). The corresponding similarities and differences in the two stories prove that the events in Genesis inspired the flood account in Gilgamesh. Next,
Genesis inspired Ovid to write Metamorphoses. In Metamorphoses, Deucalion, like Noah, were both righteous men– "there was no better man than
[Deucalion]" (Ovid 1127). Unlike some flood stories, Metamorphoses does in fact tell of a universal flood because "there was no other land, the sea
had drowned it all" (Ovid 1127). Similar to Genesis, man's sins cause the flood

About 40 different authors contributed to the writing of the Bible, over approximately 1500 years. The authors were kings, fishermen, priests,
government officials, farmers, shepherds, and doctors. The unity of the Bible is due to the fact that it has one author, God Himself. The Bible is
"God–breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16). Human authors wrote what God wanted them to write, and the result was holy and perfect Word of God (Psalm
12: 6; 2 Peter 1:21). The Bible is divided into two major parts: the Old and New Testament. In short, the Old Testament is the history of a people, and
the New Testament, the history of a man. People was the way God brought the ManJesus Christ in the world. Jesus is the central figure of the Bible.
Indeed, the whole book is about him. Old Testament predicts His coming and sets the stage for His entrance into the world. The New Testament
describes His coming and His work to bring salvation to our sinful world. After Muhammad was notified by the angel Gabriel in a revelation that he
is the one chosen by the Creator to pass laws and commandments of humanity, he began collecting all these teachings in a book called the Koran.
Koran (Quran) is the Arabic term for reciting and refers to the revelations of Allah to Muhammad, preserved and considered by Muslims as Islamic

The Koran is broken down into one hundred fourteen parts called suras. The first sura is a part of ritual prayer and the other suras serve as guides to
all parts of human existence, both social and legal.
The biggest reason why there are so many misunderstandings about the Koran is because there are many verses in it that contradict each other. For
example, many parts of the Koran say that women and men are equal. The Koran reads, "As for those who lead a righteous life, male or female,
while believing, they enter Paradise; without the slightest injustice." [4:124] This passage indisputably states that both men and women are equal and
can both enter heaven. However, another section of The Koran states, "...Of course, men are a degree above them [women] in status...". Another
example of these contradictory passages of the Koran is in a statement made in the Koran saying: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any
work you do, be you male or female – you are equal to one another..." [3:195] This passage also asserts that men and women are equal. But in another
section it is stated, "The share of the male shall be twice that of a female." These contradictions force Muslims to make a decision between what they
believe is the more truthful part of the Koran. To extremists, having that choice contributes to the oppression of women by allowing them to say men
are superior to women and enables them to justify it with the Koran.

The Sermon On The Mount And The Kohn Analysis
The Sermon on the Mount and the Koran are both texts from popular religions that contain underlying ethical systems. The Sermon on the Mount is a
classic excerpt from Christian texts in which Jesus is preaching to his disciples on common rules from the scriptures. The Koran excerpt used was a
combination of a few of the chapters from the original text, with the chapters relaying the key ideals for the Islamic religion. When discussing the topic
of forgiveness, each text has a different opinion on where forgiveness should be applied. Additionally, both texts address worshiping more than a
singular god, and the ethics that are involved within that sin. Lastly, both texts address the moral sin of murder, and both relay the underpinning ethical
conflict that is associated with the act. The Sermon on the Mount and the Koran both express strong ethical systems, with the underlying difference
being whether to apply this system to the self, in the Sermon, or to the interaction with others, in the Koran.
Firstly, in The Sermon on the Mount, when on the topic of forgiveness, it is stressed to go deeper than to just say you forgive the wrongdoer. In the
following quote, Jesus expresses that you must truly feel no anger or sense of retaliation towards the one who committed the wrong. Jesus says, "You
have learned that they were told, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.' But what I tell you is this: Do not set yourself against the man who wrongs you" (Page

Divorce is a practice that is essential in the religions of Christianity and Islam. There is acceptance, although under certain specific conditions, for
divorce to be engaged by the people according to the two religions. Nonetheless, divorce is practiced in both Christianity and Islam, even with the
strong teachings against it as showed by the First Letter to the Corinthians. According to Paul, there are aspects of human life that indicate that
divorce is an acceptable activity, however, it is written "And to those who are married, I command; no, not I, but the Lord: that a wife should not
separate from her husband; and if she does separate herself, she must remain single or else be reconciled with her husband; and a man should not
divorce his wife." (Lattimore 367) Christianity, according to the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians, has strong words of advice that come from
accepting divorce. For instance, St. Paul is against divorce that happens under grounds that are uncertain and not within what has been written in the
law. For example, any divorce that happens in a way that one of the members of the responsibility is trying to be against the laws of marriage. Paul
himself says "If any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her; and a woman who has a

The Tang Dynasty, unlikeIslam, did not have a strict code or law to follow, such as the Koran and Hadith. Therefore an Emperor could expand and

Another difference between the Taizong handout and the Al Mawardi source is the use of the military. Within the Taizong handout it states,
"Weapons and armor are a country's tool of violence. A warlike country, however huge and safe it may be, will end up declining and endangering
its populace. Military force cannot be entirely eliminated nor used all the time." The Tang Dynasty does not really follow these words of Taizong in
the fact that they ended up declining because of their military expansions. The Islamic world is entirely based upon the Koran, and Hadith. It is the
job of the caliph to follow his strict political duties which are: It is the caliph's duty is to defend the lands of Islam and to protect them from
intrusion, to enforce the legal penalties, to maintain the frontier, and to wage holy war. So if necessary, the Islamic community shall wage war, or if
another empire should try and stop the expansion of a Caliphate, then it shall result in a battle such as the Battle of the Talas River. The caliph's duties

As a Christian I believe that I am inherently sinful by nature, therefore I have a need for a Savior. Muslims, on the other hand teach that they are

Christians salvation is not earned, it is a free gift of God through the atonement of Jesus' death and resurrection. In order to receive salvation one

Compare And Contrast Maimonides And Moses
Maimonides, a Jewish philosopher and Rabbinic scholar, is one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of Rabbinate Judaism and
Torah Scholarship. Deeply embedded in Islam culture, Maimonides was well respect in Islam tradition, however, he rejected the Koran's notion of
hierarchical leadership by claiming that no prophet, including Muhammad, would ever surpass or achieve what Moses had in his prophecy. Therefore,
while Maimonides did not reject Muhammad as a prophet, he did respond to the Islamic view of Moses as subordinate to Muhammad by framing
Moses as the paradigm prophet. Thus, in contrast to the Koran, Maimonides viewed Moses as the ultimate philosopher to achieve prophecy in a
metaphysical world. Therefore, while Maimonides takes up the same Muslim conversation, he further identifies with rabbinic tradition. Such

Woman Is The Greatest Masterpiece Created By God
Woman is the greatest masterpiece created by God to accompany man in all equality. The complexity and the way of thinking of a woman has always
fascinated men throughout the ages. But unfortunately, for centuries, women became underestimated and despised by men. Having no education, they
were limited in all their activities. By examining closely the portrait of the woman in religion. Precisely in the Koran and in the Bible, it is clear that the
Koran is misogynist compared to the Bible. In the Koran, women are not equal to men, they are not valued as they should be and they are portrayed as
sexual objects. "Women are the agent of social transformation who prepare children to enter human society. Beyond this, they are the portals through
which all people come into this world"(Frymer–Kensy, 329). No matter what, women will always be important in our world. For the fact that Eve fell
into temptation and ate of the fruit of the tree of good and evil, people still have the tendency to blame Eve for the fall of mankind. And it is from this
perspective that women began to be underestimated for the next generations to follow. The Koran and Hadiths, which are the traditions of the prophets

Although I am not familiar with the customs of Islam, I do believe that wearing such pieces like the burqa is ultimately by choice. Like many
religions, there is some sort of scripture that was written as a guideline for the purpose of living life in a certain way. The Koran does require that
both men and women should conduct themselves in a modest manner, including attire, however, the Koran does not explicitly state that women must
be dressed in garments such as the burka. Therefore, it is women themselves who have either chosen to wear the garment or was forced too due to
other contributing factors. To go into further detail, I do believe that some women are pressured to abide by such code of conduct because of strict,
religious values of some Islamic husbands who could be classified as possessive or oppressive. With this in mind, other reasons for Islamic women to

becomes a man and teaches more informally by demonstrating through His life, how to live life (Bible, Mathew 1:23). As a teacher,Jesus is more
patient and lenient. While He teaches in parables, He also possesses a specific simplicity that facilitates the pupils' learning (Bible, Mathew 13:10).
Not only did Jesus teach through words, but also as a symbol of great leadership, he taught through sinless action. In many ways the god in the
Bhagavad–Gita is similar to the god in the New Testament. For instance just as God took the form of a human in the New Testament, God in the
Bhagavad–Gita also took the form of a man when he was teaching Arjuna. Similarly to Jesus in the New Testament, Krishna also teaches Arjuna and
men a specific way of life that must be led to attain inner peace (Bhagavad–Gita 2.48).
While all of the gods in these books are incredible teachers, one such god sticks out. Jesus in the New Testament seems to be gentler, more

The Koran And The Quran
The Quran is a book of guidance to mankind, it instructs justice, etiqueties, modesty, sincerity and righteousness. At the same time, the Quran urges
and inspires believers to an ethic of action. It's administers a moral liability for muslims to struggle for what is good and just. The Quran also
inculcates that it's an obligation to glorify good and forbid evil.It also accentuates the importance of realtionship between man and community, the
purpose of man and nature and, the mercifulness, grariousness and power of God. The Quran addresses the obligation of man to serve his community
and god (his mu'amala and 'ibada). "The Major Themes Of The Quran" such as Nature, God, Man as Individual , Man in Society and Eschatology that

Allah says in the Quran that nature has a purpose and it is for man to exploit it. Therefore, studying about it and finding new ways to exploit it in
order to advance science and technology for our daily use is part of exploiting nature. The Quran speaks of scientists highly "And of his sign is the
creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colors. Lo! herein indeed are portents for men of knowledge" (Q
30:22). The Quran speaks of those who investigate nature and try to discover the laws that govern it as "men of knowledge and insight".Qur'anic
verses encourage inspection and contemplation of the universe that surrounds us and is exceptionally concerned with those sciences that give human
beings the dexterity to benefit from the world around them. In the passage the use of medicine and the hospital 's expansion signifies the importance
of being able to exploit nature and further science in order to help diseased people. The Quran supports the advancements of science and technology
because it is used to help people , as depicted in the passage the knowledge of science and the amelioration of the hospital was used to help the whole
community especially the less fortunate. "[shall be treated here] for their ailments, big or small, similar or different, whether the diseases are
perceptible [that is, are physical] or whether they are mental disturbances" (Isa, no page).Islam advocates the embodiment of

Two Opposing Perspectives Of Islam

Two Opposing Perspectives of Islam
By definition, Islam is a religion of those who obey the doctrines of the Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad, who in the 7th century lived in Arabia,
initiated a religious movement that throughout the Middle East was supported by the Arabs. Today, not only in Middle East origins,Islam has adherents,
where it is the dominant religion in all countries (Non–Arab, and Arab), but also in other parts of Africa, Asia and, of course, as well as in the United
States. Those who are loyal to Islam are called Muslims. The Sunni, Shiite conflict in Iraq started long before the ruling of Saddam Hussein, but when
Hussein became Prime Minister of the country the conflict between the two religious sects was taken to a new level. Right when Hussein gained full
power, under his control, began years of persecution of the Shiite Muslims in the country. But, before this happened, the conflict was based upon
Muhammad and who was to rule after he had died. When Muhammad had died there were many disputes on who should succeed the Prophet
Muhammad after his death in 632. Shiites believed that the prophet's son–in–law, Ali, was to be the successor. Both consider the Koran the word of
God. But, devoutness and religious practice distinguish between the two sects. However, Islam teaches that all Islam is equal so Sunni and Shiite sects
fight with each other not only because of "hatred" but, also because of religious

Newsweek and the Guantanamo Koran Abuse Story Essays
On May 9, 2005, Michael Isikoff and John Barry, two seasoned reporters for Newsweek, published a story about the interrogations and imprisonment of
suspected terrorists in the aftermath of the Al Qaeda attacks on September 11, 2001 that left Americans in shock and mourning for the many lives that
were lost. The suspected terrorists were detained in what became a controversial military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Isikoff and Barry described
the culturally insensitive interrogation methods that were conducted at Guantanamo Bay by the American military. They described the soldiers
desecrating the Koran, the Moslem holy book, which they placed on toilets and even one time flushed down the toilet. The information for this story was

The story and the effects of the story intensified the already tense situation even more and increased distrust between Islamic and non–Islamic nations.
The mistaken report caused worldwide problems including the credibility of American news reporting and a number of people killed and injured in
the riots that occurred as a result. In addition to these terrible effects, the Newsweek story ruined reputations of people and organizations such as that of
the military and possibly the government. It brought about anger and c a great deal of criticism of the American military. It brought about distrust for
the military, the government and even the media. Had the names of the soldiers involved in these interrogations had been leaked, their reputations and
professional futures could have been jeopardized. The accuracy of the reporters who wrote the story were also questioned. The problem could have
been avoided by Newsweek had the reporters exercised some precautions and taken some additional steps in gathering their information. Dale
Jacquette's book Journalistic Ethics states, "We should expect that most journalists, if they are in tune with the moral obligations oftruth telling in the
profession, are always aware that there are external checks on the truth or falsehood of their reporting. They should therefore welcome the fact that their
work must constantly stand the test

Injustice In A Thousand Splendid Suns

  • 1. Injustice In A Thousand Splendid Suns How would you feel being born into a life where you were treated differently because of a crime your parents committed? A Thousand Splendid Suns is a novel written by Khaled Hosseini in 2007. The novel, set in Kabul, Afghanistan follows the life of Mariam, an illegitimate child born out of wedlock. And Laila, a young girl who becomes an orphan after her parents are tragically killed. Throughout the novel, it talks about the teaching of the Koran by Mullah Faizullah and others. Even though the Koran is taught in A Thousand Splendid Suns, the Koran's passages on the treatment of illegitimate children are not practiced through the novel. The Koran says that one may not carry the punishments of those who preceded them, a command that is not portrayed when it comes to Mariam not being allowed into the house. "He betrayed us, your beloved father. He cast us out. He cast us out of his big fancy house like we were nothing to him. He did it happily." (Hosseini 5) The book (in Mariam's case) shows... "And find not fault with one another, neither revile one another by nicknames. An evil name is ungodliness after belief. And whoso repents not, those–– they are the evildoers." (Koran, SЕ«rat l–ḥujurДЃt 49.11) According to the Koran, illegitimate children are not to be ridiculed or given nicknames that are to shame them for being different (born out of wedlock). This now major world religion is based upon the teachings of Muhammad who is considered and called the Prophet. Muslims, whom are the followers of these teachings view the Koran as the speech of god to Muhammad, mediated by Gabriel, the angel of revelation. The outcome of these revelations by Muhammad became the basis for all beliefs of the Islamic tradition. He was inspired to preach what he had learned and over time, he gained much support as well as opposition. To Muslims, The Koran is their guide to life and living. The idea of community refers to a group sharing the same interests and living together in harmony. • 3. The Basics of Islam The religion of Islam is primarily centered on achieving peace and surrendering the self to the will of God or Allah and His Law. Islam began forming into the religion it is today under a prophet named Muhammad who became the final prophet of God, The Seal of the Prophets. Although known as The Seal of Prophets, Muslims believe that he was only a man chosen by Allah, as a messenger and teacher of living for God. Before faced with a mission from God, Muhammad saw his society collapse and social order being built upon corruption, so he spent fifteen years pondering the divine and laying down the spiritual groundwork for his own ministry. After much studying, he concluded that Allah is the one and only creator, and provider of the world; "there is no God, but Allah." The new ministry of Muhammad began with the journey to a mountain in Mecca, where Allah asked him to cry out the His name and teachings to the people, therefore leading to a ministry of praise and reform by the final prophet. Through various times throughout Muhammad's life, he began to hear and convey messages that would later be orally passed down and formed into the Koran; he was to teach the revelation, speak the revelation put into practice, so that others may see God as the one and only. Muhammad would continue to proclaim that the Koran was the only miracle performed through him. Like other prophets, Muhammad faced difficulties and rejection during his ministry by the government; first, only mockery of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Koran The Koran reveals many truths to the people of the Islamic faith. However, some ideas are outdated for current times because of the inequality they create among the difference of peoples. The most prevalent of these ideas is the difference between the roles and treatment of men and women. In a Muslim society, the men are given more rights to freedom than women because of the word written in The Koran. For example, women within the Muslim culture are required to follow the law of Hijab, which requires themselves to cover the entirety of their body in fabric as to not attract the gaze of male eyes. Evidence of these rules exist in Surah 24, verse 31, where it states, "Enjoin believing women to turn their eyes away from temptation and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is demonstrated in Surah four, which states, "You people! Fear your lord, who created you from a single soul. From that soul He created its spouse and through them He bestrewed the earth with countless men and women." (pg. 50) The fact that men and women originated from the same soul begs the question as to why women are inferior to their spiritual counter–parts. In Christianity, women are made from Man's rib, which could allow for some sort of inferiority complex between man and woman because woman are thought to only be a piece of the "original" male body that God created. However, women are not thought of as this tremendously inferior throughout their spiritual tradition, but there is still some resemblance of inferiority within the actual church. Islam preaches that even though the two are created from the same undeniably holy soul that one must obey the other without question. This fundamental truth contradicts the statuses of man and woman because their souls are equal, but they are not. It is thought of in most religions that our soul is the purest most holy part of our existence, so believing that Islam is one of the world's largest religions, it is hard to fathom why women are forced to be so obedient to man. However, this could also be an earlier revelation of Muhammad, or perhaps like the bible's new testament, it was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thematic Essay On Christianity And Islam Without listing all the common points between Christianity and Islam, we can summarize that Christianity and Islam have the same common aspect in terms of their conception of God, Jesus, sin, faith, forgiveness, God's Word and the Holy Spirit, God's providence, in the worldwide community of believers joined together by common faith and purpose, in the sharing of God giving possessions, and in the final judgement: пѓ Christians and Muslims believe in one God, creator of heaven and earth, and every human being, that he revealed his will in the holy book (Bible or Koran). The Day of Judgment at the end of time, God will call each one of us for giving his account. пѓ The Koran and the Bible tell us that Jesus was sent by God to Israel. The two call him "Christ". He was born of the Virgin Mary, he called the Jews to faith, he went up to heaven and he will return to the earth at the end of time. пѓ The Koran and the Bible emphasize that God's will is that men believed in him and live according to His commandments. The Koran gave emphasis to the prophetic aspect of Noah's tasks given to him by God. In short, Noah's mission as a prophet was to inform the wrongdoers, and to convince them to submit to God. If they refused to do so, Noah threatened them with anguish and suffering. Regardless, the wrongdoers rejected his warning and shrugged off his threats. Consequently, it became evident to Noah that his people would never take note of his word of warning. These texts share the same ultimate reality of heaven as a paradise. However, the path to achieve these ultimate realities are completely different. The Koran views the ultimate reality as an afterlife that is achievable through following a strict set of rules, while in City of God, the afterlife is attainable by having righteous intentions. The differences in the foundation of the ultimate realities affect the relationships that men have with women. In Islam, the most important values are following the scriptures and keeping commitments. In the Koran, the ideal relationship has the qualities of a business transaction. • 12. Creation Myths: Genesis vs. The Koran Creation myths: Genesis versus the Koran Creation myths can be profoundly revelatory of the values of the cultures that produce them. They reflect how the culture views its place in the universe, the relations between the sexes, and above all the relationship of human beings to God. The creation myths of the Judeo–Christian tradition and Islam share many similarities. Both put human beings squarely in the center of God's creation in terms of His importance, and give Man dominance over plants and animals to varying degrees. Women's inferior place in society is shown as natural rather than a product of social influences. However, the centrality of the myth within both cultures is profoundly different. In the Bible, Genesis is the first book, suggesting its central importance in defining the faith. Man is presented as essentially fallen and sinful in nature, and God's curse upon the race of Adam and humanity's expulsion from the Garden of Eden is eternal. In the Koran, the creation myth is not presented as a coherent whole, but piecemeal through the larger text, and there is no reference to an eternal curse for Man's disobedience. The structure of Genesis, unlike the Koran, is also self–contradictory to some degree. Moving on to the part where Joseph is cast into the pit by his brothers, one major difference that I noticed is the mention of names in the bible, each instance and message has a name behind it, the mention of Reuben, Judah, Benjamin etc, this however is missing from the Koran where all the brothers are referred to as one conglomerate. The mention of the brothers separately is important in this context because clearly Reuben thought differently than the others and Judah was more like the leader so we can't possibly refer to all of them as one. Further on, in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is sold off to the Ishmaelites, on the other hand , in the Koran he is " discovered" by passing caravans. Comparisons can me made by accounting the part where Joseph's master's wife tries to seduce him too; in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is accused falsely and sent off to prison whereas in the Koran, the master acknowledges that his wife is the cunning one, "This is but one of your tricks. God asks Iblis why he does not bow to Adam, and Iblis responds by saying that he is better than Adam is, because he is made of fire, not clay. After God hears this, he threatens to throw Iblis out the garden. He tells Iblis that any man that should follow in his footsteps would go to hell. After this God adds Hawa to the garden. Once again, God tells Adam and Hawa not to eat of the forbidden tree. Encouraged by Iblis' lure, Adam and Hawa both eat of the tree. He then dismisses them from the garden and sends them both down to Heaven, where he tells them to listen to his messengers. In both books, the same concept is used, but the manner in which it is used differs. There is a difference in names, a difference in events that proceed and follow the creation, and a difference in the form that the angels present themselves. The next idea relates to Noah and the Flood. The version of the flood in the Koran differs from that in the Bible in three ways: the way in which the participants converse, the views of Heaven, and the way in which the flood is depicted and described. These differences reflect a fundamental variance in the ways in which the two cultures view man's relationship with God. This initially comes as something of a shock when one considers the common paradigm of Jesus as a figure of peace who only preaches forgiveness and nonviolence. One of the most interesting parables in the Gospel of Luke which contradicts this paradigm is one which describes a steward who is physically violent towards the servants of his master's estate. Commenting on this story, and referring to the abusive steward, Jesus promises that "his master [God] will come on a day he does not expect and ... will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful" (12. 45–46). Adding to this, Jesus then continues with, "I have come to bring fire to the earth. Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three" (12. 51–52). This quote by Jesus firstly implies that the violence of the steward toward the servants is unjustified. This implication comes from the vow that God will punish the steward for his violence. The author first summarizes the historical life of Muhammad. This begins with his birth and life before he was given his mission. Next comes his struggle to spread his religion. The Koran places restrictions on one's diet, especially dealing with how which meats one can eat. The Koran tends to illustrate which foods are forbidden rather than those that one is allowed to eat. The only animal that there is an outright ban on is the pig. As for animals that are permitted, it specifies the ways that this meat may become forbidden. These ways include eating meat that is already dead, or meat fro an animal that has been strangled to death. The author goes on to quibble with other ways that a meat may or may not be forbidden; asking if hares, shellfish and lizards are acceptable foods. Some things need to be left up to common sense. As described, the Koran does a good job laying the ground rules for this area, and certain things any levelheaded person can figure out for themselves. Muhammad set rules that restricted women, and Cook takes a critical view of these policies. Women were only entitled to half the inheritance that men are, polygamy and concubines were allowed, and women were easily divorced. Mohammed, being illiterate, would remember the pieces of prophesy and recite it to his scribes, who would then read it back to him. He would also sometimes show them to Gabriel to make sure they were transcribed correctly. In total, there are 114 suras, or chapters, in the completed Koran. Thus Maimonides indirectly rejects the Muslim belief ofMuhammad, as well as the Koran, superseding Moses and the Torah. However, critics can reason all they want because God created the world, and the creation is not a debatable topic. The Genesis account of the flood came first; therefore, Gilgamesh, Ovid's Metamorphoses, and The Korans accounts of the flood are all inspired by Genesis. The book of Genesis inspired the authors of these works of literature to write alterations of their own stories. Gilgamesh, Metamorphoses, and The Koran are all variations of the account chronicled in Genesis. First, there are numerous similarities between the flood in Gilgamesh and the biblical flood account found in Genesis chapters six through nine. Foremost, two righteous men are selected to build an ark because of an imminent flood. In Genesis 6:14, God instructs Noah to "make thee an ark of gopher wood," and in Gilgamesh, an assembly of gods send Utnapishtim to "abandon [his] home and build a boat" (Gilgamesh 55). In Genesis and in Gilgamesh, both floods are sent because of "the wickedness of man" (King James Version, Gen. 6.5). Also, God and the gods in Gilgamesh both regret destroying the world by flood. Nevertheless, there are also many differences in the two stories. Although the two heroes both sent out birds to find land, they sent out different varieties of birds. Noah sent out a raven and three doves while Utnapishtim released a raven, dove, and a swallow. The blessings that the men receive after the flood were also different. The gods in Gilgamesh grant Utnapishtim eternal life while Noah's blessing was to "be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth" (King James Version Gen. 9.1). The corresponding similarities and differences in the two stories prove that the events in Genesis inspired the flood account in Gilgamesh. Next, Genesis inspired Ovid to write Metamorphoses. In Metamorphoses, Deucalion, like Noah, were both righteous men– "there was no better man than [Deucalion]" (Ovid 1127). Unlike some flood stories, Metamorphoses does in fact tell of a universal flood because "there was no other land, the sea had drowned it all" (Ovid 1127). Similar to Genesis, man's sins cause the flood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human authors wrote what God wanted them to write, and the result was holy and perfect Word of God (Psalm 12: 6; 2 Peter 1:21). The Bible is divided into two major parts: the Old and New Testament. The first sura is a part of ritual prayer and the other suras serve as guides to all parts of human existence, both social and legal. The biggest reason why there are so many misunderstandings about the Koran is because there are many verses in it that contradict each other. For example, many parts of the Koran say that women and men are equal. The Koran reads, "As for those who lead a righteous life, male or female, while believing, they enter Paradise; without the slightest injustice." [4:124] This passage indisputably states that both men and women are equal and can both enter heaven. However, another section of The Koran states, "...Of course, men are a degree above them [women] in status...". Another example of these contradictory passages of the Koran is in a statement made in the Koran saying: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female – you are equal to one another..." [3:195] This passage also asserts that men and women are equal. But in another section it is stated, "The share of the male shall be twice that of a female." These contradictions force Muslims to make a decision between what they believe is the more truthful part of the Koran. To extremists, having that choice contributes to the oppression of women by allowing them to say men are superior to women and enables them to justify it with the Koran. • 30. The Sermon On The Mount And The Kohn Analysis The Sermon on the Mount and the Koran are both texts from popular religions that contain underlying ethical systems. The Sermon on the Mount is a classic excerpt from Christian texts in which Jesus is preaching to his disciples on common rules from the scriptures. The Koran excerpt used was a combination of a few of the chapters from the original text, with the chapters relaying the key ideals for the Islamic religion. When discussing the topic of forgiveness, each text has a different opinion on where forgiveness should be applied. Additionally, both texts address worshiping more than a singular god, and the ethics that are involved within that sin. Lastly, both texts address the moral sin of murder, and both relay the underpinning ethical conflict that is associated with the act. The Sermon on the Mount and the Koran both express strong ethical systems, with the underlying difference being whether to apply this system to the self, in the Sermon, or to the interaction with others, in the Koran. Firstly, in The Sermon on the Mount, when on the topic of forgiveness, it is stressed to go deeper than to just say you forgive the wrongdoer. In the following quote, Jesus expresses that you must truly feel no anger or sense of retaliation towards the one who committed the wrong. Jesus says, "You have learned that they were told, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.' But what I tell you is this: Do not set yourself against the man who wrongs you" (Page 8, Lines 38–40). Compare And Contrast Maimonides And Moses Maimonides, a Jewish philosopher and Rabbinic scholar, is one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of Rabbinate Judaism and Torah Scholarship. Deeply embedded in Islam culture, Maimonides was well respect in Islam tradition, however, he rejected the Koran's notion of hierarchical leadership by claiming that no prophet, including Muhammad, would ever surpass or achieve what Moses had in his prophecy. Thus, in contrast to the Koran, Maimonides viewed Moses as the ultimate philosopher to achieve prophecy in a metaphysical world. Two Opposing Perspectives Of Islam Maria Salazar Mr. Thornton AP English 8 12 January 2015 Two Opposing Perspectives of Islam By definition, Islam is a religion of those who obey the doctrines of the Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad, who in the 7th century lived in Arabia, initiated a religious movement that throughout the Middle East was supported by the Arabs. Today, not only in Middle East origins,Islam has adherents, where it is the dominant religion in all countries (Non–Arab, and Arab), but also in other parts of Africa, Asia and, of course, as well as in the United States. Those who are loyal to Islam are called Muslims. Right when Hussein gained full power, under his control, began years of persecution of the Shiite Muslims in the country. But, before this happened, the conflict was based upon Muhammad and who was to rule after he had died. When Muhammad had died there were many disputes on who should succeed the Prophet Muhammad after his death in 632. Shiites believed that the prophet's son–in–law, Ali, was to be the successor.
