This is a performance that is intentionally popular that has a sentimental value. The audience for this performance has a small market by the cause of
favor and approval by their audience. The market is small because this is not a normally tradition so only a certain audience would know about it.
The relationship between sacred and secular in this performance is secular because it has no ties to religion. Sacred is not done in this performance
because it does not have a tied to religion reminding us of God. The habits rituals and routine of the Zuni Turkey Dance shows a secular meaning
through the use of the performance.
After examining Goffman and Schechner's theories of reception and performance a performance is unique and interactive. The uniqueness of a
performance is on the interactivity of the creation or production from the audience. Goffman defines performance by the influence it has on
participants. If it doesn't influence the participants or audience it's not a performance. While Schencher defines a performance by what is placed into
the performance. Performances are bits of restored behavior that include living behaviors recombined, rearranged, and reconstructed. In other words
performances exist as actions, interactions, and relationships. There are many kinds of performance in the arts, in sports , and in ritual. For example,

The Performance Of The Performing Arts
The performing arts give and enhance many traits in a person's life. Students involved in theater prepares students for later–in–life experiences.
Participation also makes people feel a certain belonging to society. Students learn new skills: increased intelligence, and the ability to connect and
read others' emotions. Participation in the performing arts gives people experience, the feeling of belonging, and new skills. Firstly, students
participating in theater gain experiences for later careers. For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to expect in a job
or college interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can also improve the ability to withstand stress and being put in a
position under pressure (Mintz). This also expands one's capacity for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives students a greater
appreciation for the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the hardships in their lives. Problem solving is a definite trait gained for the
teamwork and leadership roles many must take on in productions. This prepares them for their career and the hardships and pressure they must
endure. Some people even view the performing arts as transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a whole, making it a
spiritual experience. Also performing enhances one's speaking ability, or public speaking. This is extremely useful later in life when, for example, one
has to give a

Abramovic Performance Art
Performance art is an artistic format that combines the visual with physical. The open–ended medium possesses endless variables and possibilities of
immaterial means of connecting art to the body. In the feminist art movement, performance art provided a bridge that connected women to their bodies.
When relating to the female form, performance art serves a command, rather than an invitation. Artists involved in this movement challenged their roles
in the art world as well as in a society. While the idea of the female form has been a tradition found in classical art, the female nude continued to be
defined and created by men. It wasn't until the performance art movement that women began to fully emerge from their stereotypical submissive image

In this work, Abramovic brushes her hair repeatedly while saying the title repetitively. By stating the standard of female beauty in art, the performance
makes the audience aware of the discriminatory gender roles and creates a feeling of discomfort. While the beginning of the performance is striking,
the continuous act of bushing hair changing from aggressive and violent to calm and poetic, makes the audience unsettled. However, as the
performance continues and the actions continue to weave through different emotions, the piece becomes incredibly profound. The act of saying that the
artist must be beautiful becomes hauntingly human. By repeating this line, Abramovic challenges conventional beauty standards and calls upon
modern female desires to be physically beautiful. Not only does the performance extract from physical appearance, the piece questions whether art must
be beautiful. In performance art, the actions often challenge the performer and bring it to the extreme by putting emotional and physical stress on the
artist's body and mind. Art must be Beautiful, Artist Must be Beautiful puts continuous stress upon the artist's body by reclaiming the figure as the
artists own and exposing the harsh realities of social expectations. Consequently, as an artist, Mariana Abramovic's piece challenges physical beauty and
changes the relationship between the artist and her

The Theme Of Beyond Silence: Silencio Blanco
This week's theme is beyond silence. In the world that is very fast paced and chaotic, we sometimes forget to appreciate silence. In silence we are
able to appreciate little things that we may have taken for granted, may it be the leaves rustling or our own thoughts. The performance of Silencio
Blanco was beyond performance with puppets, it was an art form. An art that serves a purpose beyond its superficial means. What really stuck out to
me the most during our class session was the question and answer part with the company of Silencio Blanco. One of the cast member said that it was
through our own individual perceptions that we translate the meaning of their performance. They also explained how the puppet is white so we can

A Change In Theatre
Ever since the world was created, humans have tried to express themselves trough art. Painting, sculpting, music, and, above everything, theatre. Even
before they could speak properly , primitives use dance and small rituals as a way of enterteinment. However, now, in the higly technology developed
world we live, every day there are more various and modern options to do in our free time but, at the same time all changes and becomes dull too
fast. This puts theatre in a really fragile position and makes us wonder if it will become out–of–style or if, on the contrary, as this essay will proof, it
will still be relevant and up to date for the next generations.
According to The Telegraph, Great BritainВґs theatre audiences decreased a 9 percent between 2010 and 2012, and the rates are only diminishing.
This makes clear that the theatre as we know it, is being less succesful. Nevertheless, this rates donВґt look after new ways of theatre. And, as the world
changes, the way we conceive drama changes as well, and every day, new forms of spectacle emerge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Selling Asap : Art, Agility, Performance
Selling ASAP: Art, Science, Agility, Performance was written by Eli Jones, Larry Chonko, Fern Jones, and Carl Stevens. The book gives light to the
fact that selling has become both a creative and an analytical process. In today's world, the marketplace and the sales profession are continuously
changing. Therefore, creativity, critical thinking, and agility are needed to adjust to these changes. Customers are now leaning towards trusted advisors
instead of product experts. This concept stresses the importance of viewing a sale as an opportunity to build a long–lasting relationship with the
customer. The authors outline several strategies for better anticipating customer's needs and recommending solutions that build value over time. Selling
ASAP: Art, Science, Agility, Performance highlights several tips which include: understanding how buyers buy, preparation, and attention strategies.
These concepts will be further explained throughout the following paragraphs with a summary from Selling ASAP: Art, Science, Agility, Performance
and a comparison to Selling Today written by Manning, Reece, and Abrams. Selling ASAP: Art, Science, Agility, Performance begins with the concept
of understanding how buyers buy. In order to do this, the salesperson must first uncover the needs and wants of the prospect. With this information, the
salesperson will be able to alter his or her communication style to fit the customer's preferences. According to the book, motivation has two components:

The Importance Of Performance Arts In Public Schools
After the 2017 campaign, the public school's performing arts programs was ordered to be defunded, which came in play to focus the government funds
to programs that seem more important. Majority of taxpayers support the claim that performing arts is subjected to be none beneficial to the
participating students, so the taxpayers are demanding the government taxes to be focused towards the STEM core classes. The lack of performing arts
is connected by studies that support the main point that influences the cognitive expansion from musicians or any student involvement within these
programs. There contains a direct correlation that must be investigated that connects between performing art students and high academic achievement
which could increase overall the maintenance of good grades. In Washington Times, there is an article titled "Arts programs in schools often in danger
of being cut" that notes the Department of Public Instruction is required to cut funds for the academic area causing students to lose involvement. With
the acceptation to continue programs for students' participation in performing arts would enhance their grades. To be successful within the core STEM
classes must involve equal involvement with includes performing arts. The government's cuts on performing arts seemed to be holding no such
devastating impact on certain supporters. Richard E. Klinedinst conducted an experiment that was to be supporting his claim that playing an instrument

Music Concert Report Sample
Concert Report #2 I went to the "Mark Flood: Greatest Hits" concert on May 5, 16. The performance is presented in the Contemporary Arts
Museum, Houston. The genre of the concert was Saxophone Quartet and I believed the music is from Contemporary Era. There was four pieces,
which composed by four different composers were performed. They started by the "Walk the Walk" by Michael Daugherty, I liked the beginning
piece because my mood for this piece was happy and joyful. The beat was powerful and made myself into the song. The second piece was the
"Jungle" by Christian Lauba, the tone color were bright and mellow. I felt pretty excited about the dong. Then they continued the third piece, which

Whispers, Million Will Die, Lullaby, and This just In. All the pieces have only movement, except "Saxophone Quartet No.2," which has five. There was
five performers were performing. Dan Gelok, soprano saxophone; Matt Singletary, alto saxophone; Seth McAdow, tenor saxophone; Evan Withner,
baritone saxophone; Blake Wilkins, percussion. There was actually a special purpose to the concert, according to CAMH, "Musiqa celebrates modern
creative arts through interdisciplinary concerts that highlight modern music and its connections to literature, film, dance, art, and more" ("Concert"). I
have to admit that I was not a fan of saxophone before I came to this concert. However, I liked the concert, a lot. They sounded pretty joyful and also
they played the music to present the art works, which some point I was really in to it. The music was performed pretty well, the musician seemed

Eric Krebs Reflection
On January 31st, I had the privilege of attending the first introduction to theater arts class taught by Eric Krebs. As I traveled all the way to third
floor of Baruch College, I was uncertain of what to expect from this class. However, I was excited because I personally enjoy the art of theater and
I was curious about how Eric Krebs would teach the class. After about two hours, I came to a conclusion that the class performed by the amazing
Eric Krebs was astonishing. In the beginning of the introduction to theater arts performance, there were scenes of Eric Krebs covering the overview
of the semester. Initially, I was scared from the upcoming work I was going to receive this semester, but I realized after Eric Krebs went over the
semester assignments, that they were manageable and intended to enhance a student's abilities to review a theatrical performance. Later in the
performance, I witnessed Eric Krebs talk about how in most classes, professors would not be as engaging with the audience. Normal professors usually

was so unpredictable. Eric Krebs brought in a hammer and a mirror to the class. Later, he proceeded to break the mirror with the hammer, which left
everyone speechless and amazed. Clearly, it grabbed everyone's attention because no professor has ever broken a mirror and ignored a safety hazard
in front of a class. That was a bold and fantastic choice to make for the first performance ever in theater class. For the most part, I admire this
performance because it focused on the introduction of this class, professor himself, and the concept of "art", in the most unique and breathtaking

Walker & Ono Face "The Gaze"
A Look at Differing Approaches to Feminism Through Contemporary Art
In the fifty years between the JFK assassination and a Kardashian selfie breaking the internet, two women – representing different cultures, races, times,
and attitudes – created two individual pieces of art that became living commentary on the power dynamics at play in their world. In 1964, Yoko Ono
challenged both societal convention and the artist/audience relationship in her exhibit Cut Piece, and decades later Kara Walker's Sugar Subtlety, 2014,
challenged preconceived notions of racial symbolism and societal convention on a historical level. For both creators, the idea of "The Gaze" is
explored and even featured, a term that addresses the controlling power a dominant group holds through visualization and often through sexuality.
However, the ways in which this term is explored are different between the two women. While Ono's work highlights and even proves the Westernmale
domination involved in the idea of "The Gaze", fifty years later and a difference in culture sees Kara Walker's work create an artistic and intellectual
revolution against the very power "the Gaze" tries to maintain, turning the concept on its head. As the surge of Second–Wave Feminism swept across
the Western world of the 1960s, Japanese artist and activist Yoko Ono created a work of performance art, entitled Cut Piece,

Marina Abramovic's Influence On Performance Art
Towards the late 1950s, Abstract expressionism began to lose impetus, many artists across the world, especially in America and Europe, began to
embrace performance art. In that context, Marina Abramovic's work is typical of the ritualistic strain in 1960s performance art, often involves putting
herself in grave danger and performing lengthy, harmful routine that result in her being burnt or cut, or enduring some privation. She view her art
almost as a sacrificial and religious rite, performed by herself for a congregation of viewers; the physical ordeals she endures form the basis for
exploring such themes as cleansing, endurance, trust, departure and exhaustion. Her work might be interpreted as having displaced art from traditional

the fragility of the line between death and life; it was only four minutes and ten seconds long. Ulay and Abramovic faced each other, aiming an

heartbeats in response to the growing danger. When Marina and Ulay decided to end their relationship, they embarked on their last performance on

their romantic relationship, as well as the twelve–year long artistic collaboration. Their union was much battered and repaired, though it ultimately

Messias Performance Art Analysis
How does Nando Messias utilise gender in his performance art, incorporating drag and queerness to expose his stimuli and being a homosexual?
In this essay, I will be focusing on the performance artist Nando Messias and his artwork. Messias is an abject artist who concentrates on performance
art, theatre and dance. (Nando Messias, Undated) "His performances combine beautiful images with a fierce critique of gender, visibility and violence."
(Nando Messias, Undated). Gender, drag culture and queerness plays a significant part in Messias' performance art and as an artist, he utilises this to
create an impact for the spectator and to represent life events and themes appearing in society. As an artist, he portrays the female body in a male body
creating a non–binary gender. "Such historical perspectives shared a theoretical assumption that "woman" could be understood along a gendered binary
(male/female, man/woman, masculine/feminine)" (McCann, 2016, 227) Messias dresses in drag and uses theatrical and conventional female
identifying elements to highlight the female body, highlighting the 'sissiness' that he creates in his pieces for his character. The term 'sissy boy' in
McInnes's view is "working the tensions of gender recognition and destabiliz[ing] the formation of ordered masculinity and femininity". (Davies, 2013,
124) Messias utilises both masculinity and femininity in his works due to his drag identity but exploits his feminine identity further. His work relates

Art As An Obscenity
Art as obscenity and the argument
What defines something as obscene? More over, what does the term obscenity mean? The interpretation of the word has differed in communities; styles
and scenes whether it is unacceptable or favorable a great deal of arguable queries have arisen not only in the art community but most of the population.
Obscenity is a constitutionally unprotected form of speech (About Us Art Law Library: Obscenity. Avaliable at: http://ncac.org/resource
/art–law–library–obscenity) although obscenity may be examined cautiously by few, the issue around the interpretation is deliberated in today's
court system regularly. The Hicklin or also known as the Roth test first declared a legal examination in 1868 to be conducted for obscenity, the court
held that all material tending "to deprave and corrupt those whose minds are open to such immoral influences" was obscene, regardless of its artistic
history. (Ducat, C.R. (2008) p.540) It was also decided that to be declared 'obscene' one must or ones work must lack serious literary, artistic, political,
or scientific value (Waxman, O. (2016) Time) The later decision to retire the Hitchin law reasoning stated by Justice William, J. Brennan JR settled that
the opinion of obscenity is "utterly without redeeming social importance" (West's Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2. The Gale Group) which in
response to that meant it was no longer protected by the First Amendment. 1996 The Supreme Court announced it was adding

Differences Between Theatre And Movie
In today's busy world, people usually struggle to find time for fun and a way of relaxation but when it happens, they often spend it on entertainment.
One of those forms of entertainment is watching stage or film productions. Theatre and film have lots of aspects in common and depend on each other,
however, they involve differences. People choose between theater and film based on factors and their own preferences. The purpose of this essay is to
compare and contrast between those two forms of art.
First of all, theater as well, as the film is the form of entertainment. Theater was one of the first forms of arts that made people feel emotion: sadness,
laughter, thoughtfulness while being entertained. By watching actors perform on the stage the viewers live and feel every moment and emotion. The
amusement that comes with life performance is extremely inspiring and motivating. The point of entertainment is to capture the attention of the

One of which is the type of performance. Theater is known for performances that are unedited and raw, therefore actors have to rehearse the script
frequent numbers of times in order to avoid bloopers. During play the most focus is on actors and acting, rather than visuals; the stage cannot be
edited or enhanced. In stage acting, actors have to deal with a lot of stress they have to be stage ready no matter what. Actors have to have oratory
skill as well since they have to perform in front of the crowd. However, when it comes to creating movies actors are allowed to have bloopers, since
it is possible to edit it out. Actors do not have to rehearse the script as many as theater actors do. Actors of film are performing in front of the camera,
not the live audience. Filmmaking is focused a lot on the visually in order to make it look more attention–capturing. Movies are enhanced visually and

Theater Arts Performance Review Essay
As many would say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." In life, sometimes people are going to have different opinions and ways of looking at the

The Influence Of Art On The Good And The Bad
"With great power, comes great responsibility", are the well–known words uttered by Spider Man's uncle, Ben Parker. It is not just a great quote from a
movie, it also happens to be a universal idea focusing on the moral and ethical considerations that an individual who yields a certain level of power
must make. This idea reins true in every aspect of life to include the vast world of art. Art is, without question, very powerful. Art has the ability to
influence people and cause change in their lives in both the good and the bad. According to the Chicago Sun Times actor Bill Murray's life was
saved once by Jules Breton's famous painting Song of a Lark. The actor admitted that the painting stopped him from having suicidal thoughts and
gifted him a new hope for life(cite needed). This is a positive example and this goes without saying there are negative ones as well. In other aspects
Art also wields the power to generate and manipulate emotion, which can then be harnessed to cause animosity and hatred amongst mankind as done
by the Nazi Party's propaganda films of World War II. Joseph Goebbels, who was Nazi Germany's Minister of Propaganda prior to and during the war,
used film as a machine to generate an anti–semetic campaign to influence the German people and rally them in support of a master race. One such
film, Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew), 1940, which was a major project of Goebbles, was created with the intent to paint the Jewish race as a

Brittany Russel sang "Nobody Love", she sang with magnificent range and gave the audience a nice pair of chills down their arms, because you

Madison Slamka and Gillian Marino's performance of The Beatles "Come Together" allowed the audience to release their worries and stress of the
week that lay behind them. Their duet performance was entertaining and colorful, the two girls added their own style which gave the performance an
extra twist on the song. This allowed the girls to not just sing the same style as the original artist, but to take the next step and recreate a clever,
melodic song into something that was their own. One of my favorite performances of the night was The A Cappella Group. Their three numbers were
amazing and left me wanting so much more. Even though Callie Atkinson was a featured soloist performing Hold my Hand, the groups back up was
essential for the emotional feeling of the song. As incredible as their performances were, there was this one distractions to the group. The random

How Did Medieval Art And Performance Influence Medieval...
Performance was an especially important part of the practices of medieval Christians. Whether the devotion was private or public, performance
contributed to an increased level of adoration and piety. It's important to quickly note, as Kessler does on pages 151 and 152, that art was traditionally
seen by Christians as a pagan invention, and was often thought of as a way to convert pagans to Christianity. Art was also thought of as a way to
communicate the stories of the bible to illiterate laypeople. In terms of private devotion, many medieval theologists, like Gregory the Great, believed
that by simply being in the presence of pieces of Christian art, it was possible for the viewer to be influenced to be pious. Art also had a place in

Understanding The Relationship Between Performance And...
Understanding the relationship between performance and everyday life can be grasped as a great difference. Being able to comprehension this
notion especially in acting as your own self can make a person better understand one's self and others around them. Looking upon many written
works over my course of research, I evolve into a key of knowledge from the texts I have looked into to. From a broad range of texts to choose from
this literature review will cover the relation between the writings and my argument. In Auto ethnography: An overview written by Carolyn Ellis, Tony
E. Adams & Arthur P. Bochner, it describes auto
–ethnography as "... an approach to research and writing that seeks to describe and systematically
analyse (graphy) personal experience (auto) in order to understand cultural experience (ethno)." (Ellis, 2010). Referring the study of performance
whilst working as an employee this is to show my own view of my performance and the other employees whilst working at LEGOLAND. Throughout
the demographic of the theory, Ellis is saying to support your writing with a clear underlining of facts from work of artists' movements. Other literature
on Auto–ethnography has highlighted a clear interest in connection to creating dissertations. Within the text of Handbook of the arts in qualitative
research: Perspectives, methodologies, examples, and issues written by Gary J, Knowles, the writing lies connections to using auto–ethnography within
written text. From the theory of

Informative Essay On Cirque Du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil
The show is full of excitement, it keeps you at the edge of your seat, and it grasps your imaginations. It's not like any other show you've seen live.
The circus brings to life wonderment only seen in dreams. I've only seen a circus in movies, and the acts mainly consist of uniquely appearing people
with special talents, clowns, and animal cruelty fueled performances. It intrigued me (not the animal cruelty part of course). Therefore, I got the idea to
find a circus that is alive and thriving today. What I found is sensational; Cirque du Soleil. Cirque du Soleil is an entertainment company that was
co–founded in the 1984 at Baie–Saint–Paul, Quebec, Canada by Gilles Ste–Croix and Guy LalibertГ©. It was founded as a tour group for Quebec's
450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier's discovery of Canada. Before then, the performances were simple; they walked on stilts, juggled, and breathed
fire ("Cirque du Soleil"). Today, Cirque du Soleil is known for its high flying acrobatics, death–defying stunts, and extravagant visuals. Their motto is
"to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world," (Kingsford–Smith). They combine their
mesmerizing gymnastic stunts with a theatre like performance that keeps the audience enticed all throughout their shows. ... Show more content on

Tania Bruguera Performance Art
Tania Bruguera, born in 1968 in Havana, Cuba, whom is known to be a Cuban installation and performance artist. For those that are not aware of
what performance art is, performance art combines visual art with dramatic performance. "Performance art usually consists of four elements: time,
space, the performer's body, and a relationship between audience and performer. Traditionally, the work is interdisciplinary, employing some other
kind of visual art, video, sound, or props" (MoMa.org/Performance in Art). Tania Bruguera lives and works between New York and Havana. Tania
Bruguera could be described as a woman who is bold, brave, intelligent, and speaks motivational and positive truth to the society around her. Tania
Bruguera may be looked down upon as a rebel to the American society due to one of her performance art, which was an open–mike to her audience ...

Performance art is live in motion and real, a person can grab the concept of the message being told or shown in a short time, just by listening and

to think deeper. Everything that is going on in the world is not always on big screen news stations, sometimes it takes a famous artist to point out the
important issues going on in our society that we don't see on television. Tania Bruguera encourages her audience to see things in a different horizon,
and not just from a selfish angle when it comes down to certain issues and topics that affect the world and the people in

The Visual And Performance Arts Of Europe
Welcome, to my traveler's guide to the performing and visual arts. In this guide, you will explore first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe.
First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C. when Thespis won the first public contest for tragic poets in
Greece. The term "thespian" derives from Thespis's name. In addition, Thespis also introduced performance masks, which would soon become a staple
of Greek and Roman Theater.
Let's fast forward quite a ways, to 1576, where the first commercial theater is opened in London, England, becoming the first Elizabeth playhouse in
the world. Many performance pieces were performed here; including many plays from the famous William Shakespeare and, the ... Show more content

from $41.50 – $44.75, also depending on the dates of the show. I got the chance to go for the 10th anniversary, which was a spectacular performance.
Visual art, has also been a prominent factor in European culture and society. Visual art began in Europe during Prehistoric times, somewhere around
30 to 20000 BCE, this art was located in a cave in Spain and is known as the "El Castillo Cave Art", which is so far, the oldest known cave paintings
in the world. Going further in time, European artwork is emboldened by many great painters and architects such as Leonardo DaVinci and
Michelangelo; whom were famous for some of the greatest canvas and architectural paintings known in the world today. Most of these paintings from
these artist, can be found in our next location, The Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Louvre, was built in 1190, as a fortress to the Empire of France. The LeMusee du Louvre, is located along the banks of the Seine River, in
Paris. The Louvre, was reconstructed after it's time as a fortress, to serve as a royal palace. Its expansion continued over the years, covering a total
area of now 652, 300 square feet, much more than its original square footage of less than 600,000. In 1793, after moving the royal residence to
Versailles by King Louis XIV; The Louvre, became an art museum,

The Culture Of The 1960's
During our first module of Performance Cultures, we explored and researched into the counter cultures of the 1960's; how those movements shaped
not only the development of the performance world but also the culture of modern day life. A prominent factor in the culture of the 1960's was the
art of protest. We as class researched heavily into the different areas of protest during that time, as it really was an era in which the 'people' fought
back against governments and elitist institutes. To begin, we looked at the 'Hippie' culture; their shared beliefs and the changes they were trying to
make in the world. Many hippies used music to portray their political and cultural views. The use of music meant that the messages were available to
all, instead of being restricted to those with the 'right' education on politics. A huge proprietor within the hippie society wasBob Dylan who used the
music industry to spread their messages through songs such as "Masters of War" (1963) and "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963). Protest songs were not only
used throughout the hippie movement, but are a thread that ties together many of the counter–cultures in the 1960's such as punk, and black rights
movements through soul and funk music. I particularly enjoyed this area of study; being a trained and experienced singer, I very much took advantage
of a situation in which I could learn more about the roots of the music industry that I perform within. So, when we were asked to create our own protest

Public Art Performance Essay
On November 7th, I put on the public performance of "Our Stage, Your Voice," with the help of multiple students on campus. It was performed in
the Rose Bell Garden and was from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. In that time span, the performers and I collected over five hundred notecards that were
performed in front of the student population. The inspiration for this performance came from the class I took with Dr. Hatton in the Fall semester of
2014. Her generosity allowed me to put this performance last year for extra credit, and it went well but not without problems. This year I was able to
put this performance on again for COMM 198. This paper is to explain how this performance came to pass to begin with, to evaluate how the
performance went, and what I learned by doing this performance.
This performance was inspired by another public art performance by Shana Lutker called "Hear it Here". In this performance, there were two
performers that had headsets which connected to two microphones. Then audience members would periodically go behind a curtain and say something
into the microphone. These statements would then be performed in front of the rest of the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

American Literature And Performance Art
Feminism, in Canada, was present as early as the nineteenth century, with the first wave of the feminist movement, and his been continually explored
through Canadian literature and performance art as a result, ever since. Audrey Thomas, a reputable and well recognized Canadian author, has been
exploring feminism and the lives of women in her writing since the beginning of her career (Thompson, 2007). In her short story, Bear Country, Thomas
explores the impact of violence towards women, on feminist performing artist, Wilma. As is frequently made the subject of feminist discussion, the
survival and well–being of women in today's male dominated society depends highly on remaining ignorant to the sexism and violence directed
towards them. This will be further explored through examining the conflicts, motivations, and actions of Thomas' protagonist Wilma, in her popular
short story Bear Country. To begin, Wilma is a young British Columbian and performance artist attempting to learn french due to a recent relocation
to Montreal. Wilma is fascinated by playing with both french and english in her work, using it as a method of communicating the impact of sexism
and misogyny on women. The main conflict of the story begins, however, when Wilma must take a french class at l'Г‰cole Polytechnique recently
after the massacre on December 6th, 1989, in which 14 women were killed (Bindel, 2012). Understandably, Wilma is afraid of taking a class in the

Body Art As Self Representation
Orlan: Body as Identity ARTH 102 Yuanyuan Chen Instructor: Dr. Geoffrey Carr April 5th,2016 Body art as self representation has become more
pervasive in popular culture within the past 50 years in western cultures. From the body as the model of Greek artistry to 20th and 21st century punk
rock safety pins as facial art and permanent tattooing, the body is a canvas upon which artists purvey their message, whatever it may be. As such, Orlan
is a fearless artist on the world stage, displaying her body as a shifting, ever changing human identity, and body art as self representation and self
expression. At its core, cosmetic surgery, medical technology, physical and biochemical status of ethical issues are prevalent in modern society. Change
of appearance in human development appears in one artistic expressional event after another, such as: Austronesian tattoo, tattooed, Western grant wash
and circumcision, long–necked tribe neck plus a circle of copper rings, the wrapping of Chinese Ming and Qing Dynasty feet for small size, the
obsessional fitness of modern society with fasting and its obsession with a set standard of female physical beauty ....... Its main purpose is nothing
more than to improve the soul level, to define race, and cater to the beauty zeitgeist of the times. An external change such as surgery or tattooing often
produces an unnatural experience and a period of physical and mental suffering, or continuous self–restraint before they can reach the

Performance Art And Its Impact On The Public Arena
Women's movements have long used their voices as a disruptive force to subvert and undermine the patriarchal institutions at work. It is through their
art and writings that their voices are heard by those who are listening. However, only being heard by those who are willing to listen is not sufficient
enough to permanently install their presence in the public arena. This is why artists have turned to the method of performance art to actively
communicate their messages without being disregarded by the public. Performance art goes beyond the relative scope of visual art in that it is
actually executed in front of an audience. It is an aggressive "form of consciousness raising" that not only breaches the confines of one's personal space

Transgendered models have the power to transcend patriarchal definitions of masculinity and femininity because they perform constructions of gender
identity that are in direct opposition to "forcibly imposed ideals of what bodies ought to be like" (Undoing Gender 114). They take it one step further
through performance art by wielding not only their voices but also their bodies to disrupt political and hetero–cultural realities that perpetuate
restrictive gender boundaries within public space. Before delving deeper into the debate over whether or not transgender modeling should be considered
performance art, we must first understand that there is a direct correlation between biological sex and performed gender that creates heteronormative
modes of feminine or masculine embodiment. Butler defines performed gender as "a kind of imitation...that produces the very notion of the original as
an effect and consequence of the imitation itself" (Imitation and gender Insubordination 306). The body then is not an empty vessel on which gender
norms and heterosexual identities are imposed upon. Rather, it is a result and consequence of us trying to imitate something that does not exist in the
first place. We only continue to experience our bodies as gendered because we remain participants in the performance of gender and therefore in the
production of gender. Through the performance of gender,

In my undergraduate degree, I directed and produced a public art performance under the supervision of Dr. Oona Hatton. The performance, titled "Our

Cocoa Beach Performance Art Analysis
1.The concept for my final project is to illustrate the diversity of trash people discard on the beach. Ultimately, the goal will be to motivate people
to not litter and draw emphasis to the need to take adequate care of our ocean. I was struck with inspiration of this idea one afternoon while I was
meditating after running down Cocoa Beach. During my runs, I would repeatedly feel distressed by the amount of garbage I observed the public
leave behind and later on be swept out into the ocean by high tide. I had a vigorous desire to do whatever was in my power to help alleviate this
environmental issue. While meditating, the sound of the waves crashing and the sensation of sand beneath my body, the idea for this concept

leaving trash behind. At the end of each run I will photograph the trash on the sand before properly disposing of it. Then, I will use the collection of

The Denver Center For Performing Arts
The production A Christmas Carol was performed at the Denver Center for Performing Arts located in Denver, Colorado. I had the pleasure to attend
the show on December 14th in the Stage Theater and I was captivated. This show captured the essence of a theatrical production. To avoid false
impressions, the production I saw was performed in 2013. This is a foretaste for those thinking about attending the future performance in 2016;
especially those who desire the theater experience.
The Denver Center for Performing Arts has an exceptional reputation. The theater complex is coined the second largest performing arts center
compared to Broadway. Their qualitative productions can attest to this and AChristmas Carol is no exception. A Christmas Carol was originally a novel
written by Charles Dickens and has been adapted into numerous renditions. The Denver Center for Performing Arts has audiences experience the
story in a different way, through the art of theater. Director Bruce K. Sevy, playwright adaptor Richard Hellesen and composer David de Berry
captured the nature of the classic story and made it into a family friendly production perfect for the holiday season.
Having knowledge and involvement in both the acting and the technical aspects of theater, I expected the production to deliver a qualitative
performance that gave its audience the full experience. This experience is achieved by the elements of theater such as acting, lights, sounds, props,
costume and set design

How Audience Driven Performance Art Differ From Other...
How does audience driven performance art differ from other forms of performance art?
Introduction:
In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist has be growing increasingly popular among those
who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of curiosity associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different from
what is often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in watching, thinking about, interpreting, and changing
performance art, I will not be interested in the intention of any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings which are
formed from attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is simply viewing). Thus, the works that I will be examining will
have no spoken words because I feel that words serve to distract from the interpretation of audience–in–performance that I will put forth. Therefore, the
pieces I have chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co–opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible Theatre serves as the foundation of
the analysis I will offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is "public theatre which involves the
public as participants in the action without their knowing it" (Boal xxiii). The three pieces which I will examine, Gala by JГ©rГґme Bel, 4'33" by
John Cage, and The Passing Winter by

When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in
physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and
great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main
goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. Marina

all kinds of emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was no sound at all, but there is a great impact by her eyes

spiritual and "transformative properties" Abramovic believes "the longer the performance can get the more transcendental it gets" (History). She
also believed the longer you stay the more energy is invested from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her body in dangerous and

  • 2. The Performance Of The Performing Arts The performing arts give and enhance many traits in a person's life. Students involved in theater prepares students for later–in–life experiences. Participation also makes people feel a certain belonging to society. Students learn new skills: increased intelligence, and the ability to connect and read others' emotions. Participation in the performing arts gives people experience, the feeling of belonging, and new skills. Firstly, students participating in theater gain experiences for later careers. For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to expect in a job or college interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can also improve the ability to withstand stress and being put in a position under pressure (Mintz). This also expands one's capacity for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives students a greater appreciation for the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the hardships in their lives. Problem solving is a definite trait gained for the teamwork and leadership roles many must take on in productions. This prepares them for their career and the hardships and pressure they must endure. Some people even view the performing arts as transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a whole, making it a spiritual experience. Also performing enhances one's speaking ability, or public speaking. This is extremely useful later in life when, for example, one has to give a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Abramovic Performance Art Performance art is an artistic format that combines the visual with physical. The open–ended medium possesses endless variables and possibilities of immaterial means of connecting art to the body. In the feminist art movement, performance art provided a bridge that connected women to their bodies. When relating to the female form, performance art serves a command, rather than an invitation. Artists involved in this movement challenged their roles in the art world as well as in a society. While the idea of the female form has been a tradition found in classical art, the female nude continued to be defined and created by men. It wasn't until the performance art movement that women began to fully emerge from their stereotypical submissive image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this work, Abramovic brushes her hair repeatedly while saying the title repetitively. By stating the standard of female beauty in art, the performance makes the audience aware of the discriminatory gender roles and creates a feeling of discomfort. While the beginning of the performance is striking, the continuous act of bushing hair changing from aggressive and violent to calm and poetic, makes the audience unsettled. However, as the performance continues and the actions continue to weave through different emotions, the piece becomes incredibly profound. The act of saying that the artist must be beautiful becomes hauntingly human. By repeating this line, Abramovic challenges conventional beauty standards and calls upon modern female desires to be physically beautiful. Not only does the performance extract from physical appearance, the piece questions whether art must be beautiful. In performance art, the actions often challenge the performer and bring it to the extreme by putting emotional and physical stress on the artist's body and mind. Art must be Beautiful, Artist Must be Beautiful puts continuous stress upon the artist's body by reclaiming the figure as the artists own and exposing the harsh realities of social expectations. Consequently, as an artist, Mariana Abramovic's piece challenges physical beauty and changes the relationship between the artist and her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theme Of Beyond Silence: Silencio Blanco This week's theme is beyond silence. In the world that is very fast paced and chaotic, we sometimes forget to appreciate silence. In silence we are able to appreciate little things that we may have taken for granted, may it be the leaves rustling or our own thoughts. The performance of Silencio Blanco was beyond performance with puppets, it was an art form. An art that serves a purpose beyond its superficial means. What really stuck out to me the most during our class session was the question and answer part with the company of Silencio Blanco. One of the cast member said that it was through our own individual perceptions that we translate the meaning of their performance. They also explained how the puppet is white so we can have the freedom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Change In Theatre Ever since the world was created, humans have tried to express themselves trough art. Painting, sculpting, music, and, above everything, theatre. Even before they could speak properly , primitives use dance and small rituals as a way of enterteinment. However, now, in the higly technology developed world we live, every day there are more various and modern options to do in our free time but, at the same time all changes and becomes dull too fast. This puts theatre in a really fragile position and makes us wonder if it will become out–of–style or if, on the contrary, as this essay will proof, it will still be relevant and up to date for the next generations. And, as the world changes, the way we conceive drama changes as well, and every day, new forms of spectacle emerge. ... • 7. The Importance Of Performance Arts In Public Schools After the 2017 campaign, the public school's performing arts programs was ordered to be defunded, which came in play to focus the government funds to programs that seem more important. Majority of taxpayers support the claim that performing arts is subjected to be none beneficial to the participating students, so the taxpayers are demanding the government taxes to be focused towards the STEM core classes. The lack of performing arts is connected by studies that support the main point that influences the cognitive expansion from musicians or any student involvement within these programs. There contains a direct correlation that must be investigated that connects between performing art students and high academic achievement which could increase overall the maintenance of good grades. In Washington Times, there is an article titled "Arts programs in schools often in danger of being cut" that notes the Department of Public Instruction is required to cut funds for the academic area causing students to lose involvement. With the acceptation to continue programs for students' participation in performing arts would enhance their grades. To be successful within the core STEM classes must involve equal involvement with includes performing arts. The government's cuts on performing arts seemed to be holding no such devastating impact on certain supporters. Richard E. • 8. Music Concert Report Sample Concert Report #2 I went to the "Mark Flood: Greatest Hits" concert on May 5, 16. The performance is presented in the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. The genre of the concert was Saxophone Quartet and I believed the music is from Contemporary Era. There was four pieces, which composed by four different composers were performed. They started by the "Walk the Walk" by Michael Daugherty, I liked the beginning piece because my mood for this piece was happy and joyful. The beat was powerful and made myself into the song. • 9. Eric Krebs Reflection On January 31st, I had the privilege of attending the first introduction to theater arts class taught by Eric Krebs. As I traveled all the way to third floor of Baruch College, I was uncertain of what to expect from this class. However, I was excited because I personally enjoy the art of theater and I was curious about how Eric Krebs would teach the class. After about two hours, I came to a conclusion that the class performed by the amazing Eric Krebs was astonishing. In the beginning of the introduction to theater arts performance, there were scenes of Eric Krebs covering the overview of the semester. Initially, I was scared from the upcoming work I was going to receive this semester, but I realized after Eric Krebs went over the semester assignments, that they were manageable and intended to enhance a student's abilities to review a theatrical performance. Later in the performance, I witnessed Eric Krebs talk about how in most classes, professors would not be as engaging with the audience. Normal professors usually just talk about their lessons through PowerPoints and ask students if they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eric Krebs brought in a hammer and a mirror to the class. Later, he proceeded to break the mirror with the hammer, which left everyone speechless and amazed. Clearly, it grabbed everyone's attention because no professor has ever broken a mirror and ignored a safety hazard in front of a class. That was a bold and fantastic choice to make for the first performance ever in theater class. For the most part, I admire this performance because it focused on the introduction of this class, professor himself, and the concept of "art", in the most unique and breathtaking ... As explained by the actors in the documentary "Every Little Step", being a performer in A Chorus Line is the ultimate dream because it was made by actors for actors. There were a few factors that made the University of Alabama's performance stand out to me including the choreography, seeing the documentary Every Little Step before the show, and the livemusic. • 11. Analysis Of Walker And Ono Face ' The Gaze ' Rebecca Woods ART 352 A– Art History III Midterm Assignment May 29, 2016 Walker & Ono Face "The Gaze" A Look at Differing Approaches to Feminism Through Contemporary Art In the fifty years between the JFK assassination and a Kardashian selfie breaking the internet, two women – representing different cultures, races, times, and attitudes – created two individual pieces of art that became living commentary on the power dynamics at play in their world. In 1964, Yoko Ono challenged both societal convention and the artist/audience relationship in her exhibit Cut Piece, and decades later Kara Walker's Sugar Subtlety, 2014, challenged preconceived notions of racial symbolism and societal convention on a historical level. For both creators, the idea of "The Gaze" is explored and even featured, a term that addresses the controlling power a dominant group holds through visualization and often through sexuality. However, the ways in which this term is explored are different between the two women. While Ono's work highlights and even proves the Westernmale domination involved in the idea of "The Gaze", fifty years later and a difference in culture sees Kara Walker's work create an artistic and intellectual revolution against the very power "the Gaze" tries to maintain, turning the concept on its head. As the surge of Second–Wave Feminism swept across the Western world of the 1960s, Japanese artist and activist Yoko Ono created a work of performance art, entitled Cut Piece, ... • 12. Marina Abramovic's Influence On Performance Art Towards the late 1950s, Abstract expressionism began to lose impetus, many artists across the world, especially in America and Europe, began to embrace performance art. In that context, Marina Abramovic's work is typical of the ritualistic strain in 1960s performance art, often involves putting herself in grave danger and performing lengthy, harmful routine that result in her being burnt or cut, or enduring some privation. She view her art almost as a sacrificial and religious rite, performed by herself for a congregation of viewers; the physical ordeals she endures form the basis for exploring such themes as cleansing, endurance, trust, departure and exhaustion. • 16. Messias Performance Art Analysis How does Nando Messias utilise gender in his performance art, incorporating drag and queerness to expose his stimuli and being a homosexual? In this essay, I will be focusing on the performance artist Nando Messias and his artwork. Messias is an abject artist who concentrates on performance art, theatre and dance. (Nando Messias, Undated) "His performances combine beautiful images with a fierce critique of gender, visibility and violence." (Nando Messias, Undated). Gender, drag culture and queerness plays a significant part in Messias' performance art and as an artist, he utilises this to create an impact for the spectator and to represent life events and themes appearing in society. As an artist, he portrays the female body in a male body creating a non–binary gender. "Such historical perspectives shared a theoretical assumption that "woman" could be understood along a gendered binary (male/female, man/woman, masculine/feminine)" (McCann, 2016, 227) Messias dresses in drag and uses theatrical and conventional female identifying elements to highlight the female body, highlighting the 'sissiness' that he creates in his pieces for his character. The term 'sissy boy' in McInnes's view is "working the tensions of gender recognition and destabiliz[ing] the formation of ordered masculinity and femininity". (Davies, 2013, 124) Messias utilises both masculinity and femininity in his works due to his drag identity but exploits his feminine identity further. His work relates clearly ... • 17. Art As An Obscenity Art as obscenity and the argument What defines something as obscene? More over, what does the term obscenity mean? The interpretation of the word has differed in communities; styles and scenes whether it is unacceptable or favorable a great deal of arguable queries have arisen not only in the art community but most of the population. Obscenity is a constitutionally unprotected form of speech (About Us Art Law Library: Obscenity. Avaliable at: http://ncac.org/resource /art–law–library–obscenity) although obscenity may be examined cautiously by few, the issue around the interpretation is deliberated in today's court system regularly. The Hicklin or also known as the Roth test first declared a legal examination in 1868 to be conducted for obscenity, the court held that all material tending "to deprave and corrupt those whose minds are open to such immoral influences" was obscene, regardless of its artistic history. (Ducat, C.R. (2008) p.540) It was also decided that to be declared 'obscene' one must or ones work must lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value (Waxman, O. (2016) Time) The later decision to retire the Hitchin law reasoning stated by Justice William, J. Brennan JR settled that the opinion of obscenity is "utterly without redeeming social importance" (West's Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2. The Gale Group) which in response to that meant it was no longer protected by the First Amendment. 1996 The Supreme Court announced it was adding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of those forms of entertainment is watching stage or film productions. Theatre and film have lots of aspects in common and depend on each other, however, they involve differences. People choose between theater and film based on factors and their own preferences. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast between those two forms of art. First of all, theater as well, as the film is the form of entertainment. Theater was one of the first forms of arts that made people feel emotion: sadness, laughter, thoughtfulness while being entertained. Out of all the wonderful productions I had a pleasure of attending these last few months, "The Castle" and "Sweat" were both the most impactful performances as many, including myself, were touched by each of the play's message. "The Castle," devised and directed by David Rothenberg, was the first performance of the semester. • 20. The Influence Of Art On The Good And The Bad "With great power, comes great responsibility", are the well–known words uttered by Spider Man's uncle, Ben Parker. It is not just a great quote from a movie, it also happens to be a universal idea focusing on the moral and ethical considerations that an individual who yields a certain level of power must make. This idea reins true in every aspect of life to include the vast world of art. Art is, without question, very powerful. Art has the ability to influence people and cause change in their lives in both the good and the bad. According to the Chicago Sun Times actor Bill Murray's life was saved once by Jules Breton's famous painting Song of a Lark. The actor admitted that the painting stopped him from having suicidal thoughts and gifted him a new hope for life(cite needed). This is a positive example and this goes without saying there are negative ones as well. In other aspects Art also wields the power to generate and manipulate emotion, which can then be harnessed to cause animosity and hatred amongst mankind as done by the Nazi Party's propaganda films of World War II. Joseph Goebbels, who was Nazi Germany's Minister of Propaganda prior to and during the war, used film as a machine to generate an anti–semetic campaign to influence the German people and rally them in support of a master race. One such film, Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew), 1940, which was a major project of Goebbles, was created with the intent to paint the Jewish race as a parasitical bunch that ... Whether the devotion was private or public, performance contributed to an increased level of adoration and piety. It's important to quickly note, as Kessler does on pages 151 and 152, that art was traditionally seen by Christians as a pagan invention, and was often thought of as a way to convert pagans to Christianity. Art was also thought of as a way to communicate the stories of the bible to illiterate laypeople. In terms of private devotion, many medieval theologists, like Gregory the Great, believed that by simply being in the presence of pieces of Christian art, it was possible for the viewer to be influenced to be pious. The Culture Of The 1960's During our first module of Performance Cultures, we explored and researched into the counter cultures of the 1960's; how those movements shaped not only the development of the performance world but also the culture of modern day life. A prominent factor in the culture of the 1960's was the art of protest. We as class researched heavily into the different areas of protest during that time, as it really was an era in which the 'people' fought back against governments and elitist institutes. To begin, we looked at the 'Hippie' culture; their shared beliefs and the changes they were trying to make in the world. Many hippies used music to portray their political and cultural views. The use of music meant that the messages were available to all, instead of being restricted to those with the 'right' education on politics. A huge proprietor within the hippie society wasBob Dylan who used the music industry to spread their messages through songs such as "Masters of War" (1963) and "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963). Protest songs were not only used throughout the hippie movement, but are a thread that ties together many of the counter–cultures in the 1960's such as punk, and black rights movements through soul and funk music. • 37. The Denver Center For Performing Arts The production A Christmas Carol was performed at the Denver Center for Performing Arts located in Denver, Colorado. I had the pleasure to attend the show on December 14th in the Stage Theater and I was captivated. This show captured the essence of a theatrical production. To avoid false impressions, the production I saw was performed in 2013. This is a foretaste for those thinking about attending the future performance in 2016; especially those who desire the theater experience. The Denver Center for Performing Arts has an exceptional reputation. The theater complex is coined the second largest performing arts center compared to Broadway. Their qualitative productions can attest to this and AChristmas Carol is no exception. A Christmas Carol was originally a novel written by Charles Dickens and has been adapted into numerous renditions. The Denver Center for Performing Arts has audiences experience the story in a different way, through the art of theater. Director Bruce K. Sevy, playwright adaptor Richard Hellesen and composer David de Berry captured the nature of the classic story and made it into a family friendly production perfect for the holiday season. Having knowledge and involvement in both the acting and the technical aspects of theater, I expected the production to deliver a qualitative performance that gave its audience the full experience. This experience is achieved by the elements of theater such as acting, lights, sounds, props, costume and set design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. How Audience Driven Performance Art Differ From Other... How does audience driven performance art differ from other forms of performance art? Introduction: In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist has be growing increasingly popular among those who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of curiosity associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different from what is often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in watching, thinking about, interpreting, and changing performance art, I will not be interested in the intention of any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings which are formed from attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is simply viewing). Thus, the works that I will be examining will have no spoken words because I feel that words serve to distract from the interpretation of audience–in–performance that I will put forth. Therefore, the pieces I have chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co–opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible Theatre serves as the foundation of the analysis I will offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is "public theatre which involves the public as participants in the action without their knowing it" (Boal xxiii). The three pieces which I will examine, Gala by JГ©rГґme Bel, 4'33" by John Cage, and The Passing Winter by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her... When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many people asked her where she is from, she replied "I came from a country that no longer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Space was involved in the performance as well. A table and two wooden chairs created a great amount of space in a big room. Until Abramovic decides to take the table away, interacting with the audience. No movement emotions was made from her. On the other hand, the audience showed all kinds of emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was no sound at all, but there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her. Marina Abramovic uses no material. She finds it important to make her performance last long lengths for the spiritual and "transformative properties" Abramovic believes "the longer the performance can get the more transcendental it gets" (History). She also believed the longer you stay the more energy is invested from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her body in dangerous and close fatal situations, by cuts and mutilation. To test her physical limits. She goes through a process training to prepare her for her performance. She prepared six months before the performance, she became a vegetarian. Only ate at certain times because of digestion. Very strict diet with very light food and only eating in the morning very certain things. She never went to the bathroom. She trained by drinking water every 45 minutes and sleeping, 45 minutes and back to sleep. She isolated herself from the world.
