Support Classroom Reflection
Throughout my experience during fieldwork, there are numerous amounts of circumstances where I
felt I was ill equipped with dealing with certain student's behavioural and academic needs. My role
as a support teacher mainly involves assisting with focus groups and in–class assistance with a
supervising learning support officer. All of the classroom teachers are evidently informed about the
student's I entered the fieldwork with my mindset on applying "Positive behavioral interventions and
supports" [PBIS] (Dunlap et al., 2014, p.135), however this approach may not always be suitable in
school wide behavioural intervention mechanisms. I attempted to apply PBIS in the classroom
environment with a student diagnosed with attention–deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),
Cognitive Moderate Disability (CGO) and Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Teachers and
learning support officers regard Marcus (Not the student's actual name) as extremely violent, rude
and disruptive in the classroom. One of the support teachers even felt conflicted approaching the
student's classroom due to his tendency to "lash out" and "abuse" her. However, I regarded this
experience to be quintessential to my future career, as it is a necessity to understand the approaches
to mitigate the student's behavioural outburst and academic growth. As, I studied on the student's
ADHD, CGO and ODD classifications, teachers began to mention his unstable nature is due to the
violent history that occurred in his family

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The basic
objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees maintain
their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely to support
standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards that are stated
positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a standard so that
it will make sense to them.
Corrective discipline:
Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further
infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action is
a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension
with or without pay.
POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION
In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set of
rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function
successfully.
Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the
relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure.
The code is based on the following principles:–
The right of management to take appropriate disciplinary steps against any worker, who acts in a
manner

Analysis Of Lincoln Electric 's Website
117 Years of Excellence; this is the header of the "Company History" section of Lincoln Electric's
website. I began the analysis at the careers section, looking through a variety of job descriptions and
qualifications. The common requirements for management on the site are a Bachelor's degree
(Masters preferred), 5+ years of previous management experience, experience with Lean/Six Sigma
tools to create impactful business improvements, proven experience in implementing and/or running
an operation in an SAP environment, high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability,
sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills, a well–defined sense of
diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
As stated in the assignment profile, Lincoln Electric is considered one of the best managed
companies in the world. I believe this to be partially attributed to their hiring process. Lincoln
Electric has strict requirements to weed through unqualified candidates who will not buy in to the
company culture of excellence. This is an especially important aspect of their hiring process
particularly due to the fact of leadership – a trait that plays a vital role in implementing and
sustaining a company's culture.
Leaders forge the path for a culture, and culture isn't created in a day. After the death of James F.
Lincoln it was widely suspected that the company would falter. The opposite was true – due to the

Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist Essay
Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist Reflection
In his book Mad Dogs, English, and the Errant Anthropologist, Raybeck discusses his observations
as he immerses himself in Wakaf Bharu, a city in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Throughout the
ethnography, he discusses the various differences that he observes with the Kelantanese culture and
the American culture, while using his prior knowledge to explain the observations he takes note of.
By using these observations, Raybeck proceeds to answer different Naturalistic Questions which
explain how Raybeck gathers the information and in what ways his studies impact the culture. Then,
he elaborates on the economical aspect of the culture he studies, explaining how relationships ...

Friends such as Yusof, Cik Din, and Encik Hussein aided him in giving a tour of the village,
explaining certain customs that he was not aware of, giving him their life stories, allowing him to
interview them as key informants, individuals who have a great rapport towards the fieldworker
(Omohundro 64), and letting Raybeck accompany them to social events so that he could study the
social behavior of the natives. As time passes by, his increased participation in the Kelantanese
culture results in a greater rapport within the village. Once incident that really shows this acquired
rapport was when he was studying the lives of the prostitutes in the nearby capital, Kota Bharu. A
villager who asks him for a ride to the barbershop but detours to the nearest whorehouse, only to be
seen by Raybeck. When the villager realizes that Raybeck caught him in the act, he proceeds in
lying, trying to establish a reason for this sudden detour. Raybeck notes how this scene starts to
show how his status changing from being an outsider through the act of lying, because He notices
the change immediately as described from this section and it shows how a simple act of lying was
able to show Raybeck's increasing rapport vividly. The challenges the Raybeck faces are the ethical
issues involving the reporting of certain information. Personal information that came from the

Why It's Time To Receive Special Education
Have some food for thought– if only around 35% of children receiving "special" education have a
specific learning disability, why is it inferred that it's only for dumb kids? There are many negative
associations with the term "special education"; often children who receive altered instruction feel
embarrassed and ashamed when they hear the term. So should we change the term to remove the
negative connotations? A child could have no learning disabilities whatsoever and receive altered
instruction, so why should they be viewed as dumber than everyone else? Children would most
likely feel less ashamed if it were called something different. Changing the phrase would be more
than just easy, and it would make a lot of sense to do so.
Usually upon hearing the term "special education", people envision a small classroom with a few
kids. They are reading out of smaller books with simpler wording, easier problems, and less work.
What they fail to notice, however, is the deaf child reading silently at the back of the room. Towards
the front of the class, two blind children are chattering. Special education includes more than just
those who have specific learning disabilities, but those who don't have them go unnoticed. Most

Most children receiving special education don't have learning disabilities. Usually, feelings of shame
and embarrassment are carried around when one must receive altered instruction. It would be
incredibly easy to change the way we speak about special education, and it would make a world of
difference to the children it affects. By adjusting the way we think and talk about people who learn
differently or are affected by learning disabilities, we can end the stigma that people who receive
special education are dumb or useless. If we used a different term, such as altered education or
altered instruction, we can remove negative feelings and connotations from the

Symbols in "Uglies"
Judy Burnside Mrs. McClure English 11 Honors, Period 7 3 Jan 2013 Have you ever wanted to be
perfect? Have you ever wanted a perfect society? Imagine a place where everyone was equally
beautiful, and there were no responsibilities or worries. A place where you were given everything
you could've ever asked for. If you had a place this luxurious, would you still want it? Sometimes
we think our lives would be fulfilled if we were smarter, or prettier, or more athletic. It is these times
that we neglect to see how great our lives already are. This is the theme of Scott Westerfeld's novel,
Uglies. Like all great writers, Scott Westerfeld supports the theme of his novel with symbolism that
is hidden in every character and event. Uglies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cable tells Tally, "'Then I'll make you a promise too, Tally Youngblood. Until you help us, to the
very best of your ability, you will never be pretty" (Loc 1309). After hearing this, Tally reluctantly
agrees to help Dr. Cable find Shay. This moment is important because it symbolizes weakness and
selfishness in human nature. Sometimes, we are willing to go against someone we love if it benefits
ourselves. Tally wants to be perfect so badly that she is willing to turn her friend in to the authorities
to get the operation she wants. Dr. Cable gives Tally supplies to get to the Rusties and a heart–
shaped locket that she is to activate when she finds Shay. Once Tally activates it, Special
Circumstances will be able to find the location of the Rusties and arrest any outlaws living there.
Tally travels for several days and nights and finally gets to the Rusties. Shay is happy to see her, and
immediately introduces her to all of her new friends. These friends include David, a sixteen year old
that ran away from the surgery because he wanted to stay pure. When Tally meets him, she thinks to
herself, "He was an ugly, but he had a nice smile. And his face held a kind of confidence Tally had
never seen in an ugly before" (Loc 2180). David represents pureness and reality. In our world, we
classify someone as beautiful if they have exquisite features that are rare. In Tally's world, everyone
was given these rare features,

Discrimination Based On Physical Appearance
Discrimination based on physical appearance, or lookism, has had a heavy impact throughout
history. For example, it is a common belief that John F. Kennedy's more favorable looks were a
contributing factor in his 1960 presidential win against Richard Nixon. To a lot of people, it may
appear that beautiful people have an unfair advantage in life. As a result of this belief, a world where
becoming beautiful is a rite of passage for all people seems to have an almost utopia–like quality,
but that is not the case in the dystopian novel Specials by Scott Westerfeld. This book is an excellent
reading choice to open the eyes of people who are under the false impression that physical
attractiveness makes a person superior, and for those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Tally discovers one of these towns and makes an observation: "Without the lesions making everyone
agreeable, society was left rolling in a constant battle of words, images, and ideas." (Specials 229).
Despite the government's attempts to keep their citizens controlled, the people's conflicting nature
prevails.
Although the special surgery's goal is to make people perfect, Tally still walks away from it with
some major character flaws, one being how conceited she becomes. Being special means she
belongs to an elite group of people that are above the average citizen. This gives her feelings of
entitlement and warps her view of other people. Feelings of superiority effect not only Tally, but her
friends as well. Zane, her former boyfriend, falls prey to Tally's new–gained shallowness. Pity and
disgust replace her love for this crippled pretty. Even his touch repulses her, making her think to
herself, "She'd kissed him, let herself be touched by him – someone unspecial and barely average."
(166). Also affected is Tally 's best friend Shay, who cannot stand Tally 's new behavior. Shay
becomes so angry with Tally that tells her, "You don 't think you 're better than everyone else, just
that you 're the center of the universe." (293) Tally's weakness destroyed her romantic relationship
with Zane and broke up her friendship with Shay.
Fortunately, Tally recognizes the weakness within herself. She expresses to Shay that she

Keeper N Me By Richard Wagamese
'Keeper N Me ' by Richard Wagamese, is a novel based on the necessary balance between life and
the culture in which one belongs to. This is a necessary aspect in order to maintain a steady
relationship with one 's self. In this novel passing on traditions or a certain way of life from
generation to generation is one of the most important aspects of guiding someone of the Ojibway
culture, as the Ojibway people have very strong beliefs and take their culture very seriously. The
people of the Ojibway culture believe that through storytelling and dreams one can realize the
importance of tradition and its influence on their identity. Wagamese throughout his novel tries to

through dreams one receives visions that are " 'sent to them by the spirit world. That vision could be

Theories Of Determinism
Intro
To my knowledge freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Determinism states that every event
has a set of causes that determine their effects. However the things people do can be labeled cause
with a equal effect as well. Everyone has a set of choices that leads us to act. However these choices
may depend on a different set of circumstances. Deciding how we should act and if thus action is by
our free will. I like Aristotle believe that these actions be they voluntary or involuntary are a
reflection of our morals based on our feelings and actions.
Case One After a night of drinking Caleb refuses to be driven home. Because he is driving under the
influence. Hence causing for the car to run off of the bridge resulting in the death ... Show more

While under gun point he is told to commit unlawful acts or his brother will be shot for his
noncompliance. During one of these unlawful acts, with his brother's life in mind Jesse was forced
to run down a police officer, in result killing him. The act is Jesse running down the police officer.
Jean– Paul Sartre expressed that as an individual we have both the freedom and responsibility to
choose to act or not to act. "thus there are no accidents in life.. could always get out of it by suicide
or desertion; these ultimate possible are those which must always be present for us when there is a
question of envisaging a situation." (Sartre 660–661). What he does cover is what if there is
someone else life in danger. For example, a loved one. Aristotle believes that sometimes our actions
may also be involuntary. " But if it is to save the life of himself and his mates, any sensible person
would do it."(Aristotle 647). Its these complications that allowed Jesse to selflessly go against his
nature and voluntarily and involuntarily commit these acts. It's a fine line to say he freely committed
the acts. When there were extenuating circumstances such as being held at gunpoint that inhibited
his freedom and the freedom of others. In my opinion from a moral stand point, because Jesse made
choices based on external complications morally he's responsible for the death of the cop. but on a
higher standpoint the robber is more morally responsible than

awesome to see being used, rather than reading it in a text book. Although knowledge provided by
textbooks is essential, being able to receive advice from someone whose daily life is spent teaching
and interacting with students with exceptionalities is also very valuable. When I asked for advice
that would be helpful for new teachers who will work with students with special needs, I received a
plethora of suggestions. Ms. Moos said that a new teacher needs to have high expectations for all
students, including those with exceptionalities. She also said that it is important to keep in contact
with special education teachers and the students' parents. The one piece of advice that stood out to
me was to no believe everything within an IEP. Ms. Moos said this with caution. She noted that the
information provided within an IEP is important and useful, but if not read with proper
thoughtfulness one may understand the student differently than they may be. To combat such a
situation, Ms. Moos, first, recommended that we get to know the student first before we judge them
based on their IEP. She also suggested that the circumstances in which the parts of the IEP were
based on may be different than circumstances a student could currently be in. This piece of advice,

Short Story The Fly
In the short story The Fly, readers are introduced to the world of grief and coping through a snapshot
into the life of a grieving father. It raises the question as to whether it is better to forget and let go or
hold on to the precious memories we have with loved ones no matter the hurt. Traditionally strong
emotions and grief are associated with female characters. However the boss gives readers an
opportunity to delve into the masculine emotions that are often times hidden. This journey through
emotion and longing also demonstrates how as humans we sometimes find joy in our pain. To let go
of grief and pain means to let go of pieces of ourselves. The selfishness that encompasses this
realization is present throughout.
Several instances within the narration give way to the fact that the boss uses the loss of his son to
gratify his own masochistic tendencies. The first glimpse into this is given as a portrait of his son is
explained to the readers. Instead of utilizing a photograph or picture that represents a time of joy or
fond memories, the boss chose to hang a portrait he dislikes. Since his son died while serving his
country, the portrait of him in his uniform only incites further grief as it offers a reminder of how his
son passed. Most would choose to honor their loved one in happier times. The second instance is the
boss's reflection on times past where he was able to freely wallow in his grief. Despite the time of

Character Analysis Of Tally Youngblood
Dynamic Character: Tally Youngblood The Uglies is a dystopian novel about a young girl living in a
futuristic society with a very controlling government. Scott Westerfeld's character, Tally
Youngblood, is the protagonist of his novel. Tally changes and progresses as her story is told,
making her a very dynamic character. As you read you discover that she an adolescent who is selfish
and will do anything to become a "Pretty", but as her story goes on her traits change from a selfish,
immature, and outspoken girl to a brave, mature, and caring young woman. Tally Youngblood's
characteristics alter so much due to being forced onto a journey into foreign land to sell out her
friend or else her dream of becoming a "Pretty" will never come true. "Dynamic is a constant
change, activity, or progress" (Google Dictionary). This word describes Tally Youngblood perfectly.
In the novel the Uglies, Tally is a constant evolving character. In the beginning chapters, she
expresses how much she wants to become a "Pretty" to anyone who will listen. She is very stubborn
and knows exactly she wants; therefore, she will not let anything get in the way of that, even if that
means selling out her best friend. Tally is an immature girl causing trouble and play tricks in the first
half of the novel, but her traits change once she is put into a position where it is either Dr. Cable's
way or no way. She is alone braving the dangers and elements on her journey outside the city and
into the Smoke. She becomes more brave and intelligent. Tally's journey causes her to mature and
realize that not everything is about becoming a "Pretty". Tally Youngblood is so dynamic because
she progresses and changes throughout the entire novel. Scott Wersterfeld's character, Tally
Youngblood, has such a diverse personality to accommodate with the society she grew up in. Tally
grows up in a futuristic society with a government that trains you to hate yourself, because of this
society she grew up immature, selfish, and self–absorbed. All the "uglies" are not supposed to want
to stay ugly because the one life goal they are intended to have is to become a "Pretty" and that is it.
Tally's diversity kicks in when she is challenged and has to put her dream to

Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar
Sir Edward Elgar
I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and circumstance March number
one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition
and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a
village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father
had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age.
He studied the music that was in his father's music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of
instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self– taught composer which is a very
remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because
of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which
was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice
Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number
one, was composed in 1901 in Queen's Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward's good friends
Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one
was premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by
Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two
flutes, two clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets,
three trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The
tenary form which is a three–part musical form (A–B–A) contains the famous tune known as "Land
of Hope and Glory". In 1902, the tune was re–ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to
fit the original tune. March number one is often known as the "graduation march" in the United
States because it is played at graduations. March number one first became associated with
graduations in 1905, when Elgar received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used
this exceptional piece of music, it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number

The Uglie Critical Analysis
According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, the word realization is defined as, "an act of becoming
fully aware of something as a fact." Being able to realize the ultimate desires and goals in life is
apart of each of the texts. In the book The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the story shows characters
realizing objectives through point of view when Tally Youngblood is faced with the truth about
getting an operation to become pretty. Likewise, in "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa
Lahiri, the message of realization is developed through symbolism of the narrator's experience in a
new world. The theme as shown in "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano is expressed
through conflict. The use of point of view, symbolism and conflict create the theme, a person must
become self–aware to realize their goals, in the texts The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, "The Third and
Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, and "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano. In The
Uglies, the lesson of becoming self–aware is communicated through the main character, Tally
Youngblood's, point of view. At first, Tally Youngblood longs to receive an operation to turn herself
pretty after being viewed as ugly most of her life. After she was denied the surgery because of
complications with a friend, she started becoming sensitive about the label given to her. The author
wrote, "She'd been an ugly for four years, but a few extra days had brought home to her exactly
what the word really meant"

Themes In Scott Westerfeld's Uglies And The Third And...
Imagine if an individual conquering his/her largest challenge presents one with an incredible reward.
Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott Westerfeld's
Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and tough journey
to a place that leads her to learn about self–worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final Continent
describes the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri's, adventure of his life through three continents and poor living
conditions during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life. In Rudyard
Kipling's poem, "If", the audience witnesses if statements that express if someone conquers the
troubles in their life, the world will be theirs. Incredibly, among three unlike compositions, a
common theme, overcoming obstacles and being honored with a sentimental reward, is conveyed
through plot, cause and effect, and characterization. Between Uglies and The Third and Final
Continent, the moral surpassing struggles and receive an award is displayed through the literary
device, plot. For justification, both storylines included developed characters, an exposition, a
descriptive setting, one or multiple conflicts, necessary rising and falling actions, an intense climax,
and a resolution. As evidence, Tally, from Uglies, defeated her rough trip to her destination and
enjoyed her freedom as she "fell into the routines of the Smoke" (Westerfeld 218). Generally,

However, it seems that the physical and mental labour in Victorian Prisons never stop, they found

Reading And Writing On My Life
If I said that reading was important to me right now, I would definitely be lying. I can't sit down for
extended periods of time and enjoy a good book like I used to. When I was in elementary school,
and even when I was going into high school, I was never seen without a book. When I was younger
I could finish a new book every single week. But it was very easy for me to fall out of love with
reading as I was being introduced to new technologies. It started with a Nintendo Wii. Sometimes I
find it difficult to admit that I even owned one, but the best way to get over embarrassment is to talk
about it right? Never the less, it was the beginning of the end of my love for reading. My earliest
recollections about reading and writing were very enjoyable for me. Reading had a huge impact on
my life. In a way, I guess you could even say that some of these experiences made me as literate and
knowledgeable as I am today. It was the first time in my life that I can truly remember feeling
genuinely good about myself. A while after I had gotten a Nintendo Wii, I got my first cell phone. It
was a Nokia. Obviously it was nothing special, but at the time it was extremely useful and I loved
having it around. I then moved on to own an HTC and now an IPhone. And not long after I got my
IPhone, I bought a Playstation 4, an Xbox 360, and a Playstation 2. I honestly believe that
technology was the main reason I stopped reading. Now that I have been out of the habit of reading

Analysis Of Without Title By Diane Glancy
Culture is a defining thing in every person's life, and affects them and how they perceive the world.
In the poem "Without Title," the theme is that leaving behind one's former way of life, culture, and
family can lead to the loss of joy, identity, and joy in culture. In this poem by Diane Glancy, it has
different ways of showing this loss of culture and identity. Without Title uses a lot of figurative
language to show this. Line 14 says, "I remember the animal tracks of the car,". This shows how the
author knows the culture she used to have and recognizes that it is gone and there is no true part of
her culture now. She calls car tracks, animal tracks, which is something she would have seen if she
had gotten to stay with her people and family. These all have a wistful longing feel in the poem, one
of sadness. In the final part of the poem it says, "The red buffalo painted on his chest. Oh, I couldn't
see it but it was there," This can be a representation of the author's father's lost culture, how he still
has it be he is not allowed to show it at all, so he just keeps it to himself. In both it shows all the
father and the author have left of their culture, their memories, and physical reminders. It shows a
loss of identity, and that they both miss it. When the author says her father, "brought home horns and
hides," it can also be representing any piece of his former culture that he tried to bring back into the
home, but his wife says to "get rid of them." The wife could say

Tally In Specials
In Specials, the main character Tally wants she old boyfriend, Zane, to join the Cutters, her special
group of Specials. The cutters are lead by Tally's friend, Shay. Zane is a Pretty, but he is crippled.
Due to the damage on his brain caused by the "cure" for the brain lesion put in every Pretty's brain
during the operation. Because Zane took only one of the pills and Tally took the other, the pill
caused Zane's brain to slowly be eaten away. The pill Tally took was supposed to stop it once it
finished getting rid of the lesion, however Tally took that pill not Zane. Tally wants Zane to become
a Special, because the operation to become a Special would make in nearly invincible, and cure him
of his shakes. Shay knows that Tally has not adjusted to being a Special, and she still continues ...

Shay makes Tally a deal: if Shay can make Zane a special, then Tally will stop making trouble. The
girls then break into the city's armory to try an retrieve something to help him escape to the Smoke.
If he were to be caught sneaking to the Smoke, he would be considered to become a Special.
Specials are typically the trickiest citizens. The songs Quiet from Matilda the Musical, Dancing
Through Life from Wicked the Musical, and Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical can
represent all the personalities of Tally, Shay, and the Smokies. The main character Tally is a girl who
just wants to fit in, and although in order to fit in she must think like everyone else. However, Tally
struggles with calming down and following the crowd. Being a Special she is supposed to listen to
the boss and thinks she is better than everyone else. I think a perfect representation of Tally's
thoughts is the song Quiet from Matilda the Musical. Unlike the title, Quiet starts very frantic, fast
and frenzied. :–) In the musical Matilda, this is the song that shows how much Matilda thinks about

What Is 11-Month-Old Child
"Mommy, you are always on your computer!"
Is it true that my children observe my passion for technology? Yes, it is correct. However, are they
accurate to conclude that using my electronic device consumes the 24 hours of my day? No, they are
not. The generalizing term, always, omits my other interests, responsibilities, and ways of living.
Therefore, I often coach my children to know the importance of several generalizing terms (all,
none, everyone, never, always), but to not allow those terms to exhaustively classify people or
things into a broad statement.
This same concept of generalizations, that I choose to focus on, impacts the analysis of human
development. For instance, research and theory that came from the middle–class communities ...

Visit The Milwaukee Public Museum
To begin, for my fieldwork project I decided to visit the Milwaukee Public Museum. The cross–
cultural topic that I chose is "Tools of all Kinds" and I focused on weapons. I decided to choose
weapons because I believe they can tell us a lot about the culture of different people from different
parts of the world. The types of weapons and what they are made of represent different cultural
views and even the surrounding areas of these places, because weapons are made from what is
available to people. Weapons from different places in the world can lead to inferences of that
specific culture's religious beliefs, their surrounding availability of resources, and even their
traditions. While conducting my research I was highly intrigued by my findings and I was
previously unaware of the different weapons that have developed over time in different parts of the
world. Some of the finesse and delicacy in design of specific weapons was so beautiful. As I was
taking pictures of different weapons and noting the type of materials used to make these weapons, I
was astonished by some of my findings. The styles of each weapon was unique in its' design and
material, as well as its purpose. Most of the weapons served a purpose in war or territorial fights.
However, there were also different purposes for some of the weapons I observed. The methodology I
used in this project was simple. To collect my data, I walked around the second and third floors of

Perse Satrapi Analysis
Growing up in Iran exposed Satrapi to numerous atrocities. She experienced first hand the realities
of war, death, and oppression. Formative and influential on Satrapi's outlook on life, these
experiences will sculpt her opinions and world views. As a result of her arduous childhood, Satrapi
gained a unique comprehension of difficult concepts such as war, death, and freedom. On the other
hand, the same experiences that gave her early maturity and compassion early on, might result in
turning into an isolating factor when she moves and is engulfed by a foreign culture without anyone
to guide her through it. The events of her childhood could create a cultural barrier and the people she
is surrounded by probably will not be able to relate to her or understand her struggles. The
experiences she went through as a child leave her completely unprepared to leave her family behind
and venture into an entirely different world by herself. Having lived through a time of war in Iran,
Satrapi might have strenuous experience trying to adjust to the culture of another country. Since she
has experienced the oppression of basic human rights to speak and believe their own truths, a place
where these rights are granted might be a hard thing to transition to. Satrapi's experiences will make
it harder for her to relate to the struggles of her new classmates and friends. For

Zappos Case Study
V–236 2/12/14
Case 1
Zappos has 10 different commandments that they abide by on the everyday basis. There are two
commandments that stand out in my opinion that would influence the way employees do their work.
Be adventures, creative and open minded. Giving the employees the ability to take risk when doing
their normal day task. For example, the call center workers are promoted to try new things to make
the customers feel delighted and appreciated. Where as some jobs that offer a call center have their
employees on a scripted dialogue, almost making them sound like robots. I think Zappos has faith in
there employment by giving the employees an encouragement to make misstates because they are
only going to learn from them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone in the whole company goes through this training regardless of what your rank is and what
you do for the company, its mandatory. Then at the end of the four–week training process the whole
class is given an offer for $2000 to quit. This whole process of two interviews and training helps
Zappos maintain their culture. The right culture with the right values will always produce the best
organizational performance. I agree 100% with this statement. There are three things that culture
implies; perception, descriptive, and the different backgrounds that individuals have, which are the
shared aspect of culture. The perception defines what the employees experience in the work place
and how they are treated. If the employees are treated fair and are encouraged to reach new heights
with no fear of making a mistake, then in my opinion they would actually try harder. The descriptive
implies how the employees feel about the culture of the company, not if they agree with it or not. So
if companies have a welcoming environment more people will be intrigued to work for a company
with strong cultural values. Getting together the right people for the culture that you want your
company to retain is critical. Having the employees in a state of mind where they are comfortable to
express themselves while meeting there goals would make any business perform at its best. Other
companies could learn a lot from Tony Hsieh

The Individuals With Disabilities Act
"The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) is a federal law that requires schools to serve the
educational needs of eligible students with disabilities" (Lee, 2014). IDEA was first put into place to
protect the rights of children with disabilities and serves students from when they are infants
through high school graduation or when they turn the age of 21. Because of IDEA, all children,
including those with disabilities, are entitled to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).
IDEA also requires all students to get their education in the least restrictive environment. This
means that all students, even those with disabilities, must be taught in general education classrooms
as long as the special education department determines that is the best placement for them given
their disability. This ensures the best possible education for all students.
Not all students with learning disabilities are covered under IDEA. There are 13 types of disabilities
that can make a student eligible for IDEA. They are: autism, deaf–blindness, deafness, emotional
disturbance, hearing impaired, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment,
other health impairment (OHI, which includes ADHD), specific learning disability, speech and
language impairment, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment, including blindness (Lee,
2014). What makes a student eligible for IDEA is that they have one of the 13 disabilities listed
above and, as a result of that

Personal Narrative : Personal Experiences
Today I was blindsided when Charlie Gordon, a student in my class for slow adult learners, asked
me out for dinner. Apparently, he has had a crush on me. When Charlie asked me, I wasn't so sure at
first. He's a really nice guy, but he is my student. I told Charlie to ask Dr. Strauss. Dr. Strauss said
that it was ok, so it was decided, I was going to dinner with Charlie because I did not want to be
rude. He seemed overly excited when Dr. Strauss and I said yes. He jumped and threw his arms in
the air as if he had just won Jeopardy. Charlie said to meet him at the Roadkill Café at seven o'clock.
As I was driving to the café I was getting nervous about dinner. I tried to get my mind off of that so I
focused on the beautiful, blazing, vibrant red, orange, and yellow colored sunset that brightly lit up
the horizon. When I got to the café Charlie was not there yet. Granted, I was early, it was about ten

there. I was not quite sure when Charlie was going to get there, but he showed up about three

Uglies Scott Westerfeld Character Analysis
In the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the character, Tally Youngblood, changes quite a bit. In the
beginning of the book, all Tally wants to do is become pretty and join her best friend in New Pretty
Town for endless partying, sleeping in, and being treated like Gods and Goddesses. However, when
Dr. Cable from Special Circumstances sends Tally on a quest that puts Tally's prettiness at stake,
Tally uncovers a horrifying truth about turning pretty, and her perspective changes completely. She
will do anything to keep herself, and the people she cares about safe from this disturbing reality. She
even gives herself up, to potentially save the lives of millions.
At first, Tally cannot wait to finally turn pretty and spend the rest of her life with Peris, having fun.
She finds life as an ugly meaningless until you turn sixteen, and undergo the operation that changes
your life forever. Tally even risks getting in serious trouble, and enduring loads of embarrassment by
sneaking into New Pretty Town, into the nicest mansion there, just to see Peris. "Tally pushed her

Analysis Of The Book ' The Hunger Games ' By Scott Westerfeld
Freedom of choice, the transference of power away from and to the oppressed, and rebellion against
societal norms: these are some of the many ingredients of a book that hailed a new approach toward
writing, trailblazing a whole subgenre of fictitious works. This book, a book which will stand the
test of time, embodies the female struggle in an oppressive society. This book, Scott Westerfeld's
Uglies, will survive as it became a beacon in the new style of young adult dystopian novels with
female protagonists. This book, much in the same way that Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre inspired
writers like Jean Rhys to write Wide Sargasso Sea and Gilbert and Gubar to pen the first edition of

This name, while not as dehumanizing as Rochester's other signifiers of choice, diminishes Jane to
the level of a child, once again placing Rochester in a position of power over Jane.
The concept of naming as a tool to shape relationships is a time–tested literary tool, which in
addition to being employed in Jane Eyre, also features as a major discourse in Uglies. "Uglies' slang
is...ugly. It's all about giving people nicknames that highlights their ugliness–Skinny, Squint," the
difference between Uglies' use of naming and Jane Eyre's use of naming is that in Uglies the young
adults impress upon each other these oppressive names rather than a more privileged individual
bestowing the names, which lower their own self esteems(Wilkinson 10). This tactic of encouraging
self–depreciating names is a practice which internalizes the need in the young citizens to live for the
day in which they turn sixteen and can be "reprieved" of their undesirable traits, their skinny frames
and squinty eyes. Stylistically, the two books can be compared on the use of character foils to
indirectly characterize the main protagonist; character foils, a subtle, indirect characterization
formed by comparison of characters, appears in the foil of Jane Eyre and Bertha Rochester and the
foil of Tally Youngblood and Dr.Cable. In The Madwoman in the

Nothing is inside except for a lone iPad, which we zoom into to find an abstract space of colorful

a temple, this grants them a sort of sacredness, where it is impossible for anything to break this static

Becoming pretty and the operation itself represents alcohol, and the lesions, alcoholism. Scott
further explores this link through the two most prominent characters, Tally Youngblood and her
friend Shay.
Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her from an ugly
into a pretty, where she can move into Pretty Town and worry only about having fun. However, her
friend Shay decides she would rather stay ugly and runs away before she gets the operation herself.
The authorities – known as Specials and led by Dr. Cable – tell Tally that she can either find Shay
and bring her back or stay ugly forever. Initially choosing to bring Shay in, Tally realizes that she
was sent not just to find Shay, but an entire settlement of people who decided to stay ugly, dubbed

to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is unfortunately too little too late though, and
the Specials come and destroy the settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally
and Shay are taken back to their city and made pretty.
In the second book, Tally is living it up in Pretty Town. She hangs out with her friend Shay and a

Demographic and economic factors can also be used as predictors for minority groups in SPED.
Since many minority groups often struggle economically and thus live in poverty, much of the time
these groups of students also live demographically close to one another, often out of circumstance

The impact of high–stakes testing on special education referrals was one more example of the
machine bureaucracy at work. In this case, the extreme sorting process mandated by the NCLB act
worked against the best interests of children whose achievement was toward the weak end of the

resulted in appropriate interventions for some and very inappropriate interventions and placement

Character Analysis Of Tally's 'Uglies'
Beautifully Asleep; Hideously Awake As adolescents progress toward adulthood, a drastic
reformation of both mental affect and moral worldview is commonly experienced. Scott Westerfeld–
in his novel Uglies–illustrates this commonality of human experience through that of Tally
Youngblood, his societally divergent protagonist. The pivotal moments that signify her gradual, yet
distinct moral development are clearly defined in specific segments of text. Moreover, the actual
structure of the novel concretely separates the definitive changes in Tally's moral worldview. It is
through these phases that the Uglies protagonist's character develops from being a slave to society's
imposed norms, to a questioning skeptic, and finally to a self–actualized individual with sound
motives and personal passions. In "Pretty" society, a clearly defined hierarchy exists between
"Littlies", "Uglies", "New Pretties", "Middle Pretties", and "Late Pretties". At age 16, each "Ugly"
member of society undergoes an appearance altering operation to become "Pretty" on the pretense of
social homogeneity. Tally begins her story as a stereotypically trouble–making Ugly, who–apart
from "tricks"–adheres to her society's laws and norms. On one particular excursion–a trick in which
she infiltrates New Pretty Town–Tally makes contact with Peris, an adolescent love interest that
turned Pretty before her. Their dynamic exemplifies Tally's societally conditioned sense of
inferiority, clearly represented by the

When the time arrives, we must love and pay proper attention to our children and their lives. For it
takes more than a breadwinner to raise a healthy child, it takes a loving and concerned parent.
However, please do not think that paying attention to your children every single day is the only
thing you must do to raise them correctly. There are plenty of good parents that are extremely busy
with their jobs and don't spend us much time with their children as they'd like to. Their secret is that
they live their lives setting a positive example for their children and peers to follow. I encourage

season was above all the last eight years, bringing in profits of over 1.25 million dollars. With this

Essay on Exercise of Authority in Measure for Measure
At the outset, we find the Duke transferring his power and authority to Angelo. He lends to Angelo
his own terror and dresses Angelo with his love, "giving his deputation all the organs of his own
power". He says that from now on "mortality and mercy" in Vienna would live in Angelo's tongue
and heart. The Duke motive in appointing Angelo to function in his stead is, as he tells Friar
Thomas, to rid the country of the evils which have taken strong roots and which, he thinks, he
himself cannot eradicate because of his reputation as a very lenient man. Now the question is how

Of course, Angelo does not realize the futility of the step which he is taking because he thinks that,
merely by banning prostitution, he would be able to put an end to this evil. Pimping and prostitution
are evils which can never be eradicated through legislation, just as the evil of alcoholism and drug–
taking cannot be ended by means of legislation. Evidently, Angelo believes in employing drastic
methods to eradicate evil. His belief in drastic methods of reform is particularly seen in his
sentencing Claudio to death on a charge of fornication. Now, there is no doubt at all that Claudio is
guilty of a serious moral lapse in having made a girl pregnant without having first married her. But
there are certain extenuating circumstances in Claudio's case; and Angelo errs in not taking into
consideration those extenuating circumstances. Angelo has revived certain laws which had remained
in disuse for several years, and he now proceeds to apply those laws in their full rigour. In other
words, he takes a literal and legalistic attitude towards the law (Marsh 141). He does not realize that
the sentence of death against a fornicator is too severe and that the law, which he has revived, needs
to be amended. He blindly applies the law to Claudio's case, thus showing a lack of realism. He is

said. That is my sister you have there! With no response the guard just held up a machine that
beeped.Another one.The guard said. Before he could even speak, he felt a sharp pain in his neck. He
pulled out a Tranquilizer dart. His eyes were closed and his body grew weak
Elijah soon awoke in a van to the sight of a girl beside him. It was cold and somewhat dim. The only

The simulation of a battle was on screen. Bullets were flying everywhere and a lot of blood
everywhere.Elijah tried his best to channel his powers and created a flaming, scorching hot fireball.
Bella had chosen a weapon not knowing what her power was and how to use it.Elijah was born with
his power of controlling fire and knew how to use it somewhat. After training was finished they were
asked to report to the office and speak with the General at once.On his way there he was wondering
what he had done wrong. He opened the door and went into the office where General Neo was sitting
at. Son.He said. You just fried the simulator and that costs a lot of money.Give me one good
explanation that you should get out of here scott free.Um I do not have one sir. Elijah replied. Well I

force that you put into that fireball and you channeled fire. Not a lot of people like you can do that

Support Classroom Reflection

  • 1. Support Classroom Reflection Throughout my experience during fieldwork, there are numerous amounts of circumstances where I felt I was ill equipped with dealing with certain student's behavioural and academic needs. My role as a support teacher mainly involves assisting with focus groups and in–class assistance with a supervising learning support officer. All of the classroom teachers are evidently informed about the student's I entered the fieldwork with my mindset on applying "Positive behavioral interventions and supports" [PBIS] (Dunlap et al., 2014, p.135), however this approach may not always be suitable in school wide behavioural intervention mechanisms. I attempted to apply PBIS in the classroom environment with a student diagnosed with attention–deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Cognitive Moderate Disability (CGO) and Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Teachers and learning support officers regard Marcus (Not the student's actual name) as extremely violent, rude and disruptive in the classroom. One of the support teachers even felt conflicted approaching the student's classroom due to his tendency to "lash out" and "abuse" her. However, I regarded this experience to be quintessential to my future career, as it is a necessity to understand the approaches to mitigate the student's behavioural outburst and academic growth. As, I studied on the student's ADHD, CGO and ODD classifications, teachers began to mention his unstable nature is due to the violent history that occurred in his family ... LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL December 31, 2011 Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman Department of Management Studies Faculty of Business Studies University of Dhaka. Dear Sir, I am submitting to you the assignment report, due December 31, 2011, that you have assigned me in our class. This report contains details about the disciplinary action in organization. I hope you find this report satisfactory. Sincerely, M. S. A. Shahnawaz Chowdhury ID:3–11–20–064 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The basic objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a standard so that it will make sense to them. Corrective discipline: Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension with or without pay. POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION

In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function successfully. Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure. • 8. Analysis Of Lincoln Electric 's Website 117 Years of Excellence; this is the header of the "Company History" section of Lincoln Electric's website. I began the analysis at the careers section, looking through a variety of job descriptions and qualifications. The common requirements for management on the site are a Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred), 5+ years of previous management experience, experience with Lean/Six Sigma tools to create impactful business improvements, proven experience in implementing and/or running an operation in an SAP environment, high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability, sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills, a well–defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. As stated in the assignment profile, Lincoln Electric is considered one of the best managed companies in the world. I believe this to be partially attributed to their hiring process. Lincoln Electric has strict requirements to weed through unqualified candidates who will not buy in to the company culture of excellence. This is an especially important aspect of their hiring process particularly due to the fact of leadership – a trait that plays a vital role in implementing and sustaining a company's culture. Leaders forge the path for a culture, and culture isn't created in a day. After the death of James F. Lincoln it was widely suspected that the company would falter. The opposite was true – due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist Essay Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist Reflection In his book Mad Dogs, English, and the Errant Anthropologist, Raybeck discusses his observations as he immerses himself in Wakaf Bharu, a city in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Throughout the ethnography, he discusses the various differences that he observes with the Kelantanese culture and the American culture, while using his prior knowledge to explain the observations he takes note of. By using these observations, Raybeck proceeds to answer different Naturalistic Questions which explain how Raybeck gathers the information and in what ways his studies impact the culture. Friends such as Yusof, Cik Din, and Encik Hussein aided him in giving a tour of the village, explaining certain customs that he was not aware of, giving him their life stories, allowing him to interview them as key informants, individuals who have a great rapport towards the fieldworker (Omohundro 64), and letting Raybeck accompany them to social events so that he could study the social behavior of the natives. As time passes by, his increased participation in the Kelantanese culture results in a greater rapport within the village. Once incident that really shows this acquired rapport was when he was studying the lives of the prostitutes in the nearby capital, Kota Bharu. A villager who asks him for a ride to the barbershop but detours to the nearest whorehouse, only to be seen by Raybeck. When the villager realizes that Raybeck caught him in the act, he proceeds in lying, trying to establish a reason for this sudden detour. Raybeck notes how this scene starts to show how his status changing from being an outsider through the act of lying, because He notices the change immediately as described from this section and it shows how a simple act of lying was able to show Raybeck's increasing rapport vividly. • 12. Why It's Time To Receive Special Education Have some food for thought– if only around 35% of children receiving "special" education have a specific learning disability, why is it inferred that it's only for dumb kids? There are many negative associations with the term "special education"; often children who receive altered instruction feel embarrassed and ashamed when they hear the term. So should we change the term to remove the negative connotations? A child could have no learning disabilities whatsoever and receive altered instruction, so why should they be viewed as dumber than everyone else? Children would most likely feel less ashamed if it were called something different. Changing the phrase would be more than just easy, and it would make a lot of sense to do so. Usually upon hearing the term "special education", people envision a small classroom with a few kids. They are reading out of smaller books with simpler wording, easier problems, and less work. What they fail to notice, however, is the deaf child reading silently at the back of the room. Towards the front of the class, two blind children are chattering. Special education includes more than just those who have specific learning disabilities, but those who don't have them go unnoticed. Most children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most children receiving special education don't have learning disabilities. Usually, feelings of shame and embarrassment are carried around when one must receive altered instruction. It would be incredibly easy to change the way we speak about special education, and it would make a world of difference to the children it affects. By adjusting the way we think and talk about people who learn differently or are affected by learning disabilities, we can end the stigma that people who receive special education are dumb or useless. • 14. Symbols in "Uglies" Judy Burnside Mrs. McClure English 11 Honors, Period 7 3 Jan 2013 Have you ever wanted to be perfect? Have you ever wanted a perfect society? Imagine a place where everyone was equally beautiful, and there were no responsibilities or worries. A place where you were given everything you could've ever asked for. If you had a place this luxurious, would you still want it? Sometimes we think our lives would be fulfilled if we were smarter, or prettier, or more athletic. It is these times that we neglect to see how great our lives already are. This is the theme of Scott Westerfeld's novel, Uglies. Like all great writers, Scott Westerfeld supports the theme of his novel with symbolism that is hidden in every character and event. Uglies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cable tells Tally, "'Then I'll make you a promise too, Tally Youngblood. Until you help us, to the very best of your ability, you will never be pretty" (Loc 1309). After hearing this, Tally reluctantly agrees to help Dr. Cable find Shay. This moment is important because it symbolizes weakness and selfishness in human nature. Sometimes, we are willing to go against someone we love if it benefits ourselves. Tally wants to be perfect so badly that she is willing to turn her friend in to the authorities to get the operation she wants. Dr. Cable gives Tally supplies to get to the Rusties and a heart– shaped locket that she is to activate when she finds Shay. Once Tally activates it, Special Circumstances will be able to find the location of the Rusties and arrest any outlaws living there. Tally travels for several days and nights and finally gets to the Rusties. Shay is happy to see her, and immediately introduces her to all of her new friends. These friends include David, a sixteen year old that ran away from the surgery because he wanted to stay pure. When Tally meets him, she thinks to herself, "He was an ugly, but he had a nice smile. And his face held a kind of confidence Tally had never seen in an ugly before" (Loc 2180). David represents pureness and reality. • 16. Discrimination Based On Physical Appearance Discrimination based on physical appearance, or lookism, has had a heavy impact throughout history. For example, it is a common belief that John F. Kennedy's more favorable looks were a contributing factor in his 1960 presidential win against Richard Nixon. To a lot of people, it may appear that beautiful people have an unfair advantage in life. As a result of this belief, a world where becoming beautiful is a rite of passage for all people seems to have an almost utopia–like quality, but that is not the case in the dystopian novel Specials by Scott Westerfeld. This book is an excellent reading choice to open the eyes of people who are under the false impression that physical attractiveness makes a person superior, and for those who ... Tally discovers one of these towns and makes an observation: "Without the lesions making everyone agreeable, society was left rolling in a constant battle of words, images, and ideas." (Specials 229). Despite the government's attempts to keep their citizens controlled, the people's conflicting nature prevails. Although the special surgery's goal is to make people perfect, Tally still walks away from it with some major character flaws, one being how conceited she becomes. Being special means she belongs to an elite group of people that are above the average citizen. This gives her feelings of entitlement and warps her view of other people. Feelings of superiority effect not only Tally, but her friends as well. Zane, her former boyfriend, falls prey to Tally's new–gained shallowness. Pity and disgust replace her love for this crippled pretty. Even his touch repulses her, making her think to herself, "She'd kissed him, let herself be touched by him – someone unspecial and barely average." (166). Also affected is Tally 's best friend Shay, who cannot stand Tally 's new behavior. Shay becomes so angry with Tally that tells her, "You don 't think you 're better than everyone else, just that you 're the center of the universe." (293) Tally's weakness destroyed her romantic relationship with Zane and broke up her friendship with Shay. Fortunately, Tally recognizes the weakness within herself. • 18. Keeper N Me By Richard Wagamese 'Keeper N Me ' by Richard Wagamese, is a novel based on the necessary balance between life and the culture in which one belongs to. This is a necessary aspect in order to maintain a steady relationship with one 's self. • 20. Theories Of Determinism Intro To my knowledge freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Determinism states that every event has a set of causes that determine their effects. However the things people do can be labeled cause with a equal effect as well. Everyone has a set of choices that leads us to act. However these choices may depend on a different set of circumstances. Deciding how we should act and if thus action is by our free will. I like Aristotle believe that these actions be they voluntary or involuntary are a reflection of our morals based on our feelings and actions. Case One After a night of drinking Caleb refuses to be driven home. Because he is driving under the influence. Hence causing for the car to run off of the bridge resulting in the death ... During one of these unlawful acts, with his brother's life in mind Jesse was forced to run down a police officer, in result killing him. The act is Jesse running down the police officer. Jean– Paul Sartre expressed that as an individual we have both the freedom and responsibility to choose to act or not to act. "thus there are no accidents in life.. could always get out of it by suicide or desertion; these ultimate possible are those which must always be present for us when there is a question of envisaging a situation." (Sartre 660–661). What he does cover is what if there is someone else life in danger. For example, a loved one. Aristotle believes that sometimes our actions may also be involuntary. " But if it is to save the life of himself and his mates, any sensible person would do it."(Aristotle 647). Its these complications that allowed Jesse to selflessly go against his nature and voluntarily and involuntarily commit these acts. It's a fine line to say he freely committed the acts. When there were extenuating circumstances such as being held at gunpoint that inhibited his freedom and the freedom of others. In my opinion from a moral stand point, because Jesse made choices based on external complications morally he's responsible for the death of the cop. but on a higher standpoint the robber is more morally responsible than ... The interview took place in Ms. Moos's room at Hamline Elementary at 11:30 A.M., which is during her prep hour, lasted for almost a half hour. Ms. Moos is an EBD (Emotional Behavioral Disorder) teacher for Kindergarten through second grade. She uses a combination of pulling students out of a general education setting, giving more intense educational support, to inclusion within a general education setting, so students are actively engaging with their peers with a more personalized and supported approach. When I asked for advice that would be helpful for new teachers who will work with students with special needs, I received a plethora of suggestions. Ms. Moos said that a new teacher needs to have high expectations for all students, including those with exceptionalities. She also said that it is important to keep in contact with special education teachers and the students' parents. The one piece of advice that stood out to me was to no believe everything within an IEP. Ms. Moos said this with caution. She noted that the information provided within an IEP is important and useful, but if not read with proper thoughtfulness one may understand the student differently than they may be. To combat such a situation, Ms. Moos, first, recommended that we get to know the student first before we judge them based on their IEP. She also suggested that the circumstances in which the parts of the IEP were based on may be different than circumstances a student could currently be in. • 26. Short Story The Fly In the short story The Fly, readers are introduced to the world of grief and coping through a snapshot into the life of a grieving father. It raises the question as to whether it is better to forget and let go or hold on to the precious memories we have with loved ones no matter the hurt. Traditionally strong emotions and grief are associated with female characters. However the boss gives readers an opportunity to delve into the masculine emotions that are often times hidden. This journey through emotion and longing also demonstrates how as humans we sometimes find joy in our pain. To let go of grief and pain means to let go of pieces of ourselves. The selfishness that encompasses this realization is present throughout. Several instances within the narration give way to the fact that the boss uses the loss of his son to gratify his own masochistic tendencies. The first glimpse into this is given as a portrait of his son is explained to the readers. Instead of utilizing a photograph or picture that represents a time of joy or fond memories, the boss chose to hang a portrait he dislikes. Since his son died while serving his country, the portrait of him in his uniform only incites further grief as it offers a reminder of how his son passed. Most would choose to honor their loved one in happier times. The second instance is the boss's reflection on times past where he was able to freely wallow in his grief. • 30. Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar Sir Edward Elgar I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and circumstance March number one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father's music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self– taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was composed in 1901 in Queen's Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward's good friends Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary form which is a three–part musical form (A–B–A) contains the famous tune known as "Land of Hope and Glory". In 1902, the tune was re–ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original tune. March number one is often known as the "graduation march" in the United States because it is played at graduations. March number one first became associated with graduations in 1905, when Elgar received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used this exceptional piece of music, it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Uglie Critical Analysis According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, the word realization is defined as, "an act of becoming fully aware of something as a fact." Being able to realize the ultimate desires and goals in life is apart of each of the texts. In the book The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the story shows characters realizing objectives through point of view when Tally Youngblood is faced with the truth about getting an operation to become pretty. Likewise, in "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, the message of realization is developed through symbolism of the narrator's experience in a new world. The theme as shown in "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano is expressed through conflict. The use of point of view, symbolism and conflict create the theme, a person must become self–aware to realize their goals, in the texts The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, and "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano. In The Uglies, the lesson of becoming self–aware is communicated through the main character, Tally Youngblood's, point of view. At first, Tally Youngblood longs to receive an operation to turn herself pretty after being viewed as ugly most of her life. After she was denied the surgery because of complications with a friend, she started becoming sensitive about the label given to her. The author wrote, "She'd been an ugly for four years, but a few extra days had brought home to her exactly what the word really meant" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott Westerfeld's Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and tough journey to a place that leads her to learn about self–worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final Continent describes the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri's, adventure of his life through three continents and poor living conditions during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life. In Rudyard Kipling's poem, "If", the audience witnesses if statements that express if someone conquers the troubles in their life, the world will be theirs. Incredibly, among three unlike compositions, a common theme, overcoming obstacles and being honored with a sentimental reward, is conveyed through plot, cause and effect, and characterization. Between Uglies and The Third and Final Continent, the moral surpassing struggles and receive an award is displayed through the literary device, plot. For justification, both storylines included developed characters, an exposition, a descriptive setting, one or multiple conflicts, necessary rising and falling actions, an intense climax, and a resolution. I can't sit down for extended periods of time and enjoy a good book like I used to. When I was in elementary school, and even when I was going into high school, I was never seen without a book. When I was younger I could finish a new book every single week. But it was very easy for me to fall out of love with reading as I was being introduced to new technologies. It started with a Nintendo Wii. Sometimes I find it difficult to admit that I even owned one, but the best way to get over embarrassment is to talk about it right? Never the less, it was the beginning of the end of my love for reading. My earliest recollections about reading and writing were very enjoyable for me. Reading had a huge impact on my life. In a way, I guess you could even say that some of these experiences made me as literate and knowledgeable as I am today. It was the first time in my life that I can truly remember feeling genuinely good about myself. A while after I had gotten a Nintendo Wii, I got my first cell phone. It was a Nokia. Obviously it was nothing special, but at the time it was extremely useful and I loved having it around. I then moved on to own an HTC and now an IPhone. • 42. Analysis Of Without Title By Diane Glancy Culture is a defining thing in every person's life, and affects them and how they perceive the world. In the poem "Without Title," the theme is that leaving behind one's former way of life, culture, and family can lead to the loss of joy, identity, and joy in culture. In this poem by Diane Glancy, it has different ways of showing this loss of culture and identity. Without Title uses a lot of figurative language to show this. Line 14 says, "I remember the animal tracks of the car,". This shows how the author knows the culture she used to have and recognizes that it is gone and there is no true part of her culture now. She calls car tracks, animal tracks, which is something she would have seen if she had gotten to stay with her people and family. These all have a wistful longing feel in the poem, one of sadness. In the final part of the poem it says, "The red buffalo painted on his chest. Oh, I couldn't see it but it was there," This can be a representation of the author's father's lost culture, how he still has it be he is not allowed to show it at all, so he just keeps it to himself. In both it shows all the father and the author have left of their culture, their memories, and physical reminders. It shows a loss of identity, and that they both miss it. When the author says her father, "brought home horns and hides," it can also be representing any piece of his former culture that he tried to bring back into the home, but his wife says to "get rid of them." The cross– cultural topic that I chose is "Tools of all Kinds" and I focused on weapons. I decided to choose weapons because I believe they can tell us a lot about the culture of different people from different parts of the world. The types of weapons and what they are made of represent different cultural views and even the surrounding areas of these places, because weapons are made from what is available to people. Weapons from different places in the world can lead to inferences of that specific culture's religious beliefs, their surrounding availability of resources, and even their traditions. For example, the call center workers are promoted to try new things to make the customers feel delighted and appreciated. The right culture with the right values will always produce the best organizational performance. I agree 100% with this statement. There are three things that culture implies; perception, descriptive, and the different backgrounds that individuals have, which are the shared aspect of culture. The perception defines what the employees experience in the work place and how they are treated. If the employees are treated fair and are encouraged to reach new heights with no fear of making a mistake, then in my opinion they would actually try harder. The descriptive implies how the employees feel about the culture of the company, not if they agree with it or not. So if companies have a welcoming environment more people will be intrigued to work for a company with strong cultural values. The Individuals With Disabilities Act "The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) is a federal law that requires schools to serve the educational needs of eligible students with disabilities" (Lee, 2014). IDEA was first put into place to protect the rights of children with disabilities and serves students from when they are infants through high school graduation or when they turn the age of 21. Because of IDEA, all children, including those with disabilities, are entitled to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). IDEA also requires all students to get their education in the least restrictive environment. This means that all students, even those with disabilities, must be taught in general education classrooms as long as the special education department determines that is the best placement for them given their disability. This ensures the best possible education for all students. Not all students with learning disabilities are covered under IDEA. • 60. Analysis Of The Book ' The Hunger Games ' By Scott Westerfeld Freedom of choice, the transference of power away from and to the oppressed, and rebellion against societal norms: these are some of the many ingredients of a book that hailed a new approach toward writing, trailblazing a whole subgenre of fictitious works. This book, a book which will stand the test of time, embodies the female struggle in an oppressive society. This book, Scott Westerfeld's Uglies, will survive as it became a beacon in the new style of young adult dystopian novels with female protagonists. This book, much in the same way that Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre inspired writers like Jean Rhys to write Wide Sargasso Sea and Gilbert and Gubar to pen the first edition of The Madwoman in the Attic, opened the path for Suzanne ... This name, while not as dehumanizing as Rochester's other signifiers of choice, diminishes Jane to the level of a child, once again placing Rochester in a position of power over Jane. The concept of naming as a tool to shape relationships is a time–tested literary tool, which in addition to being employed in Jane Eyre, also features as a major discourse in Uglies. "Uglies' slang is...ugly. It's all about giving people nicknames that highlights their ugliness–Skinny, Squint," the difference between Uglies' use of naming and Jane Eyre's use of naming is that in Uglies the young adults impress upon each other these oppressive names rather than a more privileged individual bestowing the names, which lower their own self esteems(Wilkinson 10). This tactic of encouraging self–depreciating names is a practice which internalizes the need in the young citizens to live for the day in which they turn sixteen and can be "reprieved" of their undesirable traits, their skinny frames and squinty eyes. Stylistically, the two books can be compared on the use of character foils to indirectly characterize the main protagonist; character foils, a subtle, indirect characterization formed by comparison of characters, appears in the foil of Jane Eyre and Bertha Rochester and the foil of Tally Youngblood and Dr.Cable. Under the different types of culture, what type of culture, do you think is evident in Greenscape? Organizational Culture – the idea became recognized with the notion of organizational (corporate) climate in the 60s and 70s. Greenscape started as a sole trader and over 10 years grew to a company of 20 employees. There was not much evidence of any appropriate structure. It was a simple arrangement of people, divided in six to eight working crews. The owner was arranging work schedules around personal lives of her employees. The only person who remained in full power of the company became detached from the organization. There was no focus on the future of the company and none of the bureaucracy methods had been implemented to ensure a smooth running business. Vaporwave Argumentative Essay Humanities Culminating Project Vaporwave is a microgenre of music started in the early 2010s focused on deconstructing elements of 90s culture, consumerism, and nostalgia. It's name is a pun on the term "vaporware," which refers to software advertised by companies in the 90s which turn out to be nonexistent and nothing but vapor. Vaporwave works remix pop songs, Muzak, advertisements, startup sounds, and other cultural material from the 80s and 90s, to produce hypnotic, almost dreamy music. Blank Banshee 1, the second self titled album from artist Blank Banshee, fuses both vaporwave and trap, a genre of dance music characterized by deep bass drums and rapid hi hats, and compares the technological utopia predicted by the 90s to our actual reality. ... The first track on the album, "B:/ Infinite Login" presents us with a representation of the internet: A building resembling a Japanese temple textured with the Google search bar and the Wikipedia logo. Nothing is inside except for a lone iPad, which we zoom into to find an abstract space of colorful cubes. Sites like Wikipedia, Facebook, and Google all tend to feature "clean," minimal layouts. Like a temple, this grants them a sort of sacredness, where it is impossible for anything to break this static template. The websites become authoritative and dictate the user experience. We cannot influence or modify them the same way we cannot change the structure of a building. And yet these virtual buildings are inescapable. Like The Trial, we are powerless as user of a website to truly understand anything about them. Attempting to contact a person who works at YouTube or Facebook for help is nearly impossible, just like how Josef is unable to find out any information about his own alleged crime. Additionally, it isn't just that websites alienate ourselves from them, but we've also isolated ourselves from each other. Even less unknown is alcoholism among teenagers today. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism report that "more adolescents use alcohol than cigarettes or marijuana," and that a national survey in 2014 reveals how "8.7 million young people ages 12–20 reported that they drank alcohol beyond 'just a few sips' in the past month." Scott further explores this link through the two most prominent characters, Tally Youngblood and her friend Shay. Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her from an ugly into a pretty, where she can move into Pretty Town and worry only about having fun. However, her friend Shay decides she would rather stay ugly and runs away before she gets the operation herself. The authorities – known as Specials and led by Dr. Cable – tell Tally that she can either find Shay and bring her back or stay ugly forever. Initially choosing to bring Shay in, Tally realizes that she was sent not just to find Shay, but an entire settlement of people who decided to stay ugly, dubbed the Smoke. It is there that she also learns about the lesions, and armed with this knowledge decides to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is unfortunately too little too late though, and the Specials come and destroy the settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally and Shay are taken back to their city and made pretty. In the second book, Tally is living it up in Pretty Town. She hangs out with her friend Shay and a new gang called the Crims in a constant world of partying. Since many minority groups often struggle economically and thus live in poverty, much of the time these groups of students also live demographically close to one another, often out of circumstance and for support. In connection to this, often comes the fact that often, because of their social standing, minority groups are not given the same chances to receive the highest academic opportunities available to the public, thus setting them up for pre–determined failure and misplacement in different areas of education they may not belong. The impact of high–stakes testing on special education referrals was one more example of the machine bureaucracy at work. In this case, the extreme sorting process mandated by the NCLB act worked against the best interests of children whose achievement was toward the weak end of the learning continuum. The drive to find "our special education children who have not been placed" resulted in appropriate interventions for some and very inappropriate interventions and placement for others (Harry & Klingner, 2014, p. 120). Testing, of any kind, should not be the only or even the most predominately used factor when determine special education placement. • 70. Character Analysis Of Tally's 'Uglies' Beautifully Asleep; Hideously Awake As adolescents progress toward adulthood, a drastic reformation of both mental affect and moral worldview is commonly experienced. Scott Westerfeld– in his novel Uglies–illustrates this commonality of human experience through that of Tally Youngblood, his societally divergent protagonist. The pivotal moments that signify her gradual, yet distinct moral development are clearly defined in specific segments of text. Moreover, the actual structure of the novel concretely separates the definitive changes in Tally's moral worldview. It is through these phases that the Uglies protagonist's character develops from being a slave to society's imposed norms, to a questioning skeptic, and finally to a self–actualized individual with sound motives and personal passions. In "Pretty" society, a clearly defined hierarchy exists between "Littlies", "Uglies", "New Pretties", "Middle Pretties", and "Late Pretties". At age 16, each "Ugly" member of society undergoes an appearance altering operation to become "Pretty" on the pretense of social homogeneity. Tally begins her story as a stereotypically trouble–making Ugly, who–apart from "tricks"–adheres to her society's laws and norms. On one particular excursion–a trick in which she infiltrates New Pretty Town–Tally makes contact with Peris, an adolescent love interest that turned Pretty before her. Their dynamic exemplifies Tally's societally conditioned sense of inferiority, clearly represented by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We've always known this day would come and, whether our teachers, our parents or ourselves are prepared for it, here it is. We're about to take that giant leap in just a few minutes and after that, it's time to make our own choices. No longer will our biggest decisions entail which person to ask to prom or which period would be the best to TA during. Now our choices will begin to revolve around which bills we need to pay and what job we want to be doing 20 years from now. And whether you choose to earn a degree, get a job certification or immediately start working, there are some universal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the time arrives, we must love and pay proper attention to our children and their lives. For it takes more than a breadwinner to raise a healthy child, it takes a loving and concerned parent. However, please do not think that paying attention to your children every single day is the only thing you must do to raise them correctly. There are plenty of good parents that are extremely busy with their jobs and don't spend us much time with their children as they'd like to. Their secret is that they live their lives setting a positive example for their children and peers to follow. I encourage each of you to live such a life, and hopefully you will do so by being a tolerant and accepting individual. I truly hope that everyone realizes that it does not matter what a person wears, where a person worships – if a person worships at all – who the person loves nor what shade their skin color is. We are all living, breathing human beings made from the flesh and bone, with red blood, strong souls and feelings that can be easily hurt. If you've already been practicing tolerance throughout high school, hold true to that creed throughout your entire life. And if you have been passing unfair judgment on others, which most of us have done at some point in our lives, make sure you quickly change your ways. Profitability this past season was above all the last eight years, bringing in profits of over 1.25 million dollars. We had more "Full House" nights in October of 2016, than we did in the whole season of 2015. Our goal for the 2017 season will be to average one "Full House" every week we are open for the season, for a total of 26 nights of having a "Full House". To help achieve this goal we will be targeting the middle–class families and people who travel with their pets. We will have a $50,000 marketing budget for the 2017 season and this plan will outline the areas the funds will be spent, how they will be spent and who we will be marketing too. Some of the funds will be used to expand our marketing potential and some will be used to market that potential. Some funds will be used in new ways while others will be expanding older marketing elements that are already in play. The location of the Lodge has a long withstanding history within the Bar Harbor area with an excellent view of the harbor that also faces east to view the extortionary sunrise. He lends to Angelo his own terror and dresses Angelo with his love, "giving his deputation all the organs of his own power". He says that from now on "mortality and mercy" in Vienna would live in Angelo's tongue and heart. The Duke motive in appointing Angelo to function in his stead is, as he tells Friar Thomas, to rid the country of the evils which have taken strong roots and which, he thinks, he himself cannot eradicate because of his reputation as a very lenient man. Now the question is how far the Duke is justified in appointing a substitute to rule the kingdom and reform the corrupt Vienna society. We do not think that the Duke is justified in taking such ... Of course, Angelo does not realize the futility of the step which he is taking because he thinks that, merely by banning prostitution, he would be able to put an end to this evil. Pimping and prostitution are evils which can never be eradicated through legislation, just as the evil of alcoholism and drug– taking cannot be ended by means of legislation. Evidently, Angelo believes in employing drastic methods to eradicate evil. His belief in drastic methods of reform is particularly seen in his sentencing Claudio to death on a charge of fornication. Now, there is no doubt at all that Claudio is guilty of a serious moral lapse in having made a girl pregnant without having first married her. But there are certain extenuating circumstances in Claudio's case; and Angelo errs in not taking into consideration those extenuating circumstances. Angelo has revived certain laws which had remained in disuse for several years, and he now proceeds to apply those laws in their full rigour. In other words, he takes a literal and legalistic attitude towards the law (Marsh 141). He does not realize that the sentence of death against a fornicator is too severe and that the law, which he has revived, needs to be amended. He blindly applies the law to Claudio's case, thus showing a lack of realism. He is here undoubtedly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
