Opening the Lines of Communication in Healthcare
Opening the Lines of Communication in Healthcare For many nurses, speaking with physicians is a
chore, while physicians snap at nurses for being bothersome. Why are the lines of communication in
a presumably united interdisciplinary team so strained? More importantly, what effect does this have
on patient care? Since there are many physical and intangible barriers that distort messages,
assertive communication among doctors, nurses, and patients is vital in providing sound patient
care. Ineffective Communication among Physicians and Nurses Poor communication within the
healthcare team has a negative impact on how nurses implement patient care. According to
Schmalenberg and Kramer (2009), the manner in which nurses and physicians interact and
communicate is important because this correlates directly with the quality of care given to patients
(p. 74–83). Nurses are an essential component of the healthcare team because they are the patient's
advocate, constantly at the bedside, and most significantly the first ones to find any emergent crises
in the patient's medical condition. If physicians do not listen to what nurses have to say, they are not
only shutting down the nurse; they are essentially shutting down the patient, whose best interests are
advocated by the nurse when the patient is incapable of doing so. Second, nurses are constantly at
the bedside of their patients usually for twelve hours a day. In contrast, physicians can have dozens
of patients throughout the

Leadership and Communication Across Generational Lines...
Introduction Today's leader is faced with many challenges, and one is the generational divide that
exists in the workplace today. With four different generations working together it is clear that each
group has their own preference for communication. Throughout the context of this paper I will
explore the generational differences, and describe the characteristics of my generation with regard to
leadership and communication styles. I will also describe how technology and the information age
play a role in how leaders communicate. Finally, I will identify basic communication skills that are
needed and used in generational leadership.
Do leaders communicate differently due to their age or generation?

The generation Y group was born between 1982 and 2000 (Huggins, 2008). This generation grew up
with the internet, and relies heavily on instant communications through use of cell phones, text
messages and social networking sites (Huggins, 2008). Their communication style is instant using
technology all the time, and much less formal than previous generations. I do believe that leaders
communicate differently based on age and generation. As a late generation baby boomer I find that I
have adopted my communication style to the current times, but still garner traditional
communication styles as well. I do utilize technology to the fullest; I no longer receive a newspaper,
but keep up with current events by reading them on the internet. As a leader I communicate often by
e–mail, but still enjoy face to face meetings and team collaboration. I like to surprise people with a
hand written note and send it in the mail, something later generations rarely do.
Leadership and Communication Characteristics of Baby Boomers Most baby boomers grew up
watching their traditionalist parents work very hard to make ends meet and take care of the family
unit. As a result of their upbringing many boomers have adopted their parent's strong work ethics;
working hard, long hours trying to climb the corporate ladder. Baby boomers still enjoy personal
face to face interactions and building rapport with people

The Internet Of Things : The Roles And Uses Of The...
What is IoT? The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded
with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect
and exchange data. IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network
infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and
computer–based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.
3Rishab 1. 4. "Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart
monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters,
automobiles with built–in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen
monitoring or field operation devices that assist fire–fighters in search and rescue operations. These
devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously
flow the data between other devices. 4Rishab 2. 5. The concept of the Internet of Things first
became popular in 1999, through the Auto–ID Center at MIT and related market–analysis
publications. R Radio–frequency identification (RFID) was seen as a prerequisite for the IoT at that
point. If all objects and people in daily life were equipped with identifiers, computers could manage
and inventory them. Besides using RFID, the tagging of things may be achieved through such
technologies as near field communication,

The Serial Peripheral Interphase
The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi–directional (full duplex) serial data
protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral devices
that are all of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for communication
between two microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards and Multiwii flight
controllers. In general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a microcontroller which
controls one or more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the master and the slaves share three
common lines which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out) which is responsible for transferring data
from the slave to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave In) which is responsible for transferring data
from the master to the slaves; and SCK (Serial Clock) which is created by the master and is
responsible for synchronising the transmission of data between master and slave in respect clock
pulses. There is also SS (Slave Select) line that is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which
the master can use to enable and disable specific slave devices. In the case a slave device's SS pin is
low, communication is enabled with the master. However in the case it is high, communication is
disabled with the master. This allows multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI,
and CLK lines. Full duplex data transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the
master in which the master

The Components Of Mass Communication
For many years now, the task of creating a more stable and reliable form of communication for
sharing information with people as well as with the world is something that many people across the
globe have studied, redesigned, improved, and rebuilt. The spark of mass communication is all
thanks to one man named Alexander Graham Bell who invented the first telephone. Bell's invention
of the telephone has opened a multitude of opportunities that have extended the way we
communicate in the world today. Bell's invention went public on March 7, 1916, and many people
gathered to see a demonstration that would start a revolution of communication beyond even Bell's
imagination (A Rural Broadband...). "That evenings demonstration made clear that the telephone
service was poised to revolutionize communications and unite every part of the country..." (A Rural
Broadband...). Bell's invention was the first reliable, and cost–effective way for communication until
just a few decades later when someone decided to take Bell's invention to the next level and help to
bring us public Internet. Just like Bell, AT&T is determined to create the world's first truly reliable
and cost–effective Internet connection for rural areas by revisiting an old concept that, at the time,
was proved not reliable. I believe that we can help to cut cost even more by creating a partnership
between the FCC and the DOE (Department of Energy). Using AT&T's current plans, we can
partner with other companies and government

Central Line Blood Draw Reflective Essay
For the sterile skill video validation, I performed a Central Line Blood Draw. Looking at the course
rubric, I can evaluate myself on the five course components – clinical judgement, communication,
collaboration, safety, and professional identity. In relation to clinical judgement, I thought aloud
during my video, I demonstrated the appropriate skill, and I prioritized the intervention. In relation
to communication, not much communication occurred, as I did not have a real patient or another
team member during the video validation. Although I did not have a real patient with me, I did
introduce myself and my role, as well as documented my care clearly, concisely, and accurately. In
the hospital setting, I would also demonstrate therapeutic communication with the patient. Similarly
to communication, this video validation did not require me to collaborate with other team members.

to reach for the container. In the future, I will check for my sharps container prior to beginning the

work on communicating with the patient more while I am performing a skill. While it is difficult to

nursing. By communication with the patient, it could reduce anxiety, increase knowledge, and

the best line of services based mainly on aviation, travel, and tourism. The group has been operating
for a long time in the airline industry of which we will be concentrating on. As of the group is
employing more than 62,000 employees in the region, one of its most important areas to look at is
its line of communication with its stakeholders. Communication has been a big issue within big

the airport should be well connected to the designated officers responsible. This is undertaken by an
internal system of communication that is electronically based and as well on a direct basis. Problems
that could face the aircraft should be attended as quickly as possible where the employees usually
use radio communication devices to keep all the movements complete and in its time and fully

government keeps the communication with the organization as whole on a paper–based reports and

Between the Lines: The Importance of Nonverbal Communication
The symbols we use to communicate are the vital fabric that holds human society together. Every
day, billions of people around the globe use a plethora of symbols to relay information, exchange
ideas, and solve problems. When these symbols are used in an effective way, they can change how
someone views life, rouse people to a common cause, or infuse emotions and ideas into those that
can understand. But what kind of symbols am I referring to? Most would think that I speak of
verbal, oral, and textual symbols, and, to a certain extent, they are correct.
But there are other symbols that many do not pay much attention to, symbols that speak between the
lines of normal conversation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I meet somebody for the very first time, my impression of them before they speak is made
largely on how they look. During that period, questions such as "is he/she well dressed or well
groomed?" or "is his/her apparel appropriate?" usually cross my mind; while I know that my rapid
assessment of a person by appearance is by no means fair, accurate, or thorough, it nonetheless a
powerful factor in first time impressions that gives some insight into a person.
As a result of this, I change my appearance depending on what is deemed appropriate by the social
situation. If I am attending a formal lecture or seminar, for example, I definitely would not throw on
a T–shirt and jeans, as it would be deemed inappropriate by those attending. Rather, I would suit up
for the occasion and wear something more formal. On a similar note, it would be both outrageous
and impractical for me to attend a workshop or activity of some kind that demanded physical
activity; the social circumstance deems it inappropriate and I would be sending a negative symbol.
Another form of nonverbal symbols is proxemics. It is a form of nonverbal symbolism that pertains
to "personal space"; more specifically, it deals with the physical distance between a person and the
individual that he/she is interacting with. That is not to say each individual has but one boundary; on
the contrary, the average person has several, ranging from the

promote the overall success of the organization, one champions the recognition of the organizational
mission, vision, values, goals and objectives. Finally, the HR professional also assists with
determining the measures that will inform the organization about how well it is succeeding in all of
this. Values of an organization assist in shaping the culture which can be referred to as "that's the
way we do things round here" as defined by Charles Handy (1987); letting the employees know
what the organization expects from them. One may wonder where this statement came from, but not
only do the HR professionals help in the implementation of these things. As line managers, they also
have a great role to play as they help contribute to the organization overall mission, vision, values

their best and keep in line with the objectives.
Thus far we have looked at human resource, human resource management and some of its roles in

How Communication Affects The Country, Issues, Problems,...
Introduction
Communication is very essential to humans and is also a fundamental human right. Without
communication, no human being, group or community can exist or flourish, meaning society will
not function at all. The ability to communicate allows you to share thoughts, ideas, opinions and
information. Multiple forms of communication are used everyday such as oral communications
which includes television or conversations and written communications which includes newspapers
or reports. This research essay will talk about how communications such as print media or
telecommunications have developed in Vietnam. The main topics in this essay will be about the
history of communication, factors that led to the improvement of communication, communication
benefits to the country, issues, problems and solutions of Vietnam's communication. Vietnam is a
communist country with over 85 million people and is part of South East Asia with Laos and
Cambodia to the West and China to the North. The country itself is shaped like an S and covers
331,210 square kilometres. Vietnam's literacy rate is amazingly high for a developing country
exceeding 90% for people that can read. Because of Vietnam's renovation or the "doi moi" policy,

Russia And Their Lines Of Communication Essay
The meaning of culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined
by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts (Zimmermann, 2015).
In this essay I will be explaining Russia's cultural characteristics. I will also be covering the
geography of Russia and their lines of communication. Russia has multiple conflicts that the country
has been a part of, but I will be discussing the Russian Civil War the three year war. Furthermore, I
will be discussing is how weather affects Russia's population, agriculture, and insurgency. Finally, I
will be covering is Russia's society, language, power and authority, etc.
Russia's geography is mixed between mountains, plains, and urban terrain. Russia is over six million
square miles with a two major plains, and one mountain range known as the Ural Mountains. The
Ural Mountains separate European and Siberian Russia. The European side of Russia is covered
mainly by plains. The western part of Russia is known as the Siberian side which are made up of
plateaus and mountains. The European side also known as the Russian Plain has two of the largest
cities in it which is Moscow and St. Petersburg. The city of Moscow is the capital of Russia and has

1.1 COMMUNICATIONS
Computer communications is the process of sharing data, programs, and information between two or
more computers. We have discussed numerous applications that depend on communication systems,
including: E–mail – Provides a fast, efficient alternative to traditional mail by sending and receiving
electronic documents. Instant messaging – Supports direct, "live" electronic communication
between two or more friends or buddies. Internet telephone – provides a very low cost alternative to
long–distance telephone calls using electronic voice delivery. Electronic commerce – buying and
selling goods electronically

Research On Information Metering And Measurement
Information Metering and Measurement
Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart
monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point.
a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for
obtaining information from end users' devices and appliances, while also controlling the
performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are
themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound
strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical,
expenditure, and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central
database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it
enables two–way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in
real time and on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand
organization.
b) Smart meters, which carry two–way communications amid the meter and the central system, are
like in many aspects to
AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI.
A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and
sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes.
Also, a smart meter has the capability to

Effective Leadership For A Business Protocol
Effective leadership in a business obliges knowing how to communicate with all components of the

Every gathering may oblige an alternate communication style and leadership style. Leaders must
have the capacity to adjust in light of the gathering they are communicating with at the time.
Communicate abilities are an essential part of any leader 's arrangement of aptitudes and experience.
Verbal communication is the most evident type of communication. Then again, research has
indicated individuals give careful consideration to the words that are said and a great deal more
thoughtfulness regarding the activities and nonverbal signals that go with those words. Nonverbal
signals incorporate outward appearances, utilization of hand movements, body stance and eye

As stated earlier, two Arduinos has been used here. Both of them talks to each other through i/o pins

has a function which have a hardcoded URL to fetch device states using API server. And another
function to send the latest changes on the database through API server whenever a change is

would be like the following description. User presses the switch. Arduino (A1) receives the signal
and changes both relay states and out flag for change to another Arduino (A2).

Types Of Any Wireless Communication System
A microstrip antenna consists of conducting patch and a ground plane separated by dielectric
substrate. The early work of Munson on microstrip antennas for use as a low profile flush mounted
antennas on rockets and missiles showed that this was a practical concept for use in many antenna
system problems. Different mathematical models were developed for this antenna and its
applications were extended to many other fields. The number of articles published in the journal

dielectric constant substrates are generally preferred for maximum radiation. The conducting patch
can have many shape but rectangular and circular configurations are the most commonly used
configuration. A microstrip antenna is characterized by its length parameter, width parameter, input
impedance, and gain and radiation patterns. Various performance parameters, mathematical
calculation and Microstrip feeding technique will be discussed further through this chapter.

A Brief Note On Consumer Electronics Bus ( Cebus )
2.3 ii) CeBus technology
Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus), a standard proposed by the Electronic Industries Association, is
based on the concept of Local Area Networks (LAN's). CEBus based products consist mainly of a
transceiverwhich implements spread spectrum technology along with a controller to run the
protocol. The given protocol standards are for radio frequency, twisted pair, power line
communication and a number of other networking methods. The CEBus PLDT standard specifies
that a binary digit is represented by how long a frequency burst is applied to the channel i.e, a binary
'1' is represented by a 100 microsecond burst, whilst a binary '0' is represented by a 200 microsecond
burst. CEBus transmission rate varies with how many '0' characters, and how many '1' characters are
transmitted. The CEBus standard specifies a language of object oriented controls including
commands for volume up/down, temperature up one degree, etc. Due to the high noise level of
power line channels, data should be transmitted via short frames, which is assured by the use of the
spread spectrum technology. CEBus protocol uses a Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision
Detection and Resolution (CSMA/CDCR) protocol to avoid data collisions. CEBus is a
commercially owned protocol, and thus attracts registration fees.

This technology was developed by Echelon Corporation. It is essentially structured as an automatic
control system that consists of sensors,

Delta Air Lines Communications and Decision Making
C.E. Woolman, the first leader of Delta Air Lines, believed that the company should take care of its
employees so that, in return they would take care of customers. At the root of this care included
effectively communicating with his teams and empowering them to make the right decisions. As
Debra Nelson and James Quick reference in Organizational Behavior: Science, the Real World, and
You, (2013, p. 283) "...communication, especially between managers and employees, is a critical
foundation for effective performance in organizations...this is especially critical when leaders are
articulating vision and achieving buy–in from employees." The buy–in that Woolman received from
his employees stemmed from his intentional engagement with them and expectation to provide the
best customer service in the airline industry. Throughout its history, Delta has deliberately engaged
its employees and has modeled a human resource management (HRM) system, which is the "term
increasingly used to refer to the philosophy, policies, procedures, and practices related to the
management of an organization's employees" (Sims, 2002, p. 2). The HRM system at Delta has
impacted its organizational structure, corporate communications, and shared decision making.

The Treadway Tire Company Case Study Essay
The Treadway Tire Company is a tire manufacturer that produces original equipment and
replacement tires for passenger and light trucks. It employs almost 9,000 hourly and salaried staff in
North America. The Treadway Tire Company is facing a problem with crude oil price increasing by
nearly four times over a four year period, as well as increasing raw material costs which represent
about 55% of the cost to produce a tire. The company is also feeling the pressure of an increased
global presence with more intense competition than in the past. Treadway's Lima Tire Plant, one of
eight manufacturing plants operated by the company, has a workforce of 970 unionized hourly
employees and 150 salaried employees. The plant underwent a $100 million expansion and
modernization effort which increased capacity and utilized new manufacturing technology. As a
result, the Lima plant had become one of Treadway's top plants for productivity. However, it has
faced a very high turnover rate and low employee morale in the position of line foreman. It is
believed that once the turnover and dissatisfaction problems are resolved, Treadway can increase
productivity, and reduce overall costs. The organizational chart of key persons can be found in
Exhibit 1. After analyzing Lima Tire Plant's situation, two main problems emerge: poor leadership
and poor communication. Lack of leadership and communication can be exhibited in several ways.
First, those in leadership roles are not aligning the

Interoperable Communications: Front Line Of Homeland Security
Interoperable communications is on the front line of homeland security. Communications drive
every aspect on the scene of an emergency. Most of the failures in the past on emergencies can be
directly related to either poor communication technology or poor communications between
emergency personnel. The future of homeland security in the U.S. is directly reliant on strong
interoperable communications. These communications do not only apply to Police and Fire. Having
interoperability means that any person or agency involved in hazard control has the ability to send
and receive radio traffic. Other agencies that are involved in large–scale disasters include – city
personnel, public works, railway personnel, hospital, military, etc. The size

Reference Abstract
Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) are systems designed for data communication over existing
power lines. BPL have the ability to deliver broadband services by transmitting radio frequency over
conductors used for electric power transmission. This new technology has not been fully practical as
there are set back that needs to be handled such as Radio Frequency Transmission among others.
BPL still has the major advantage over any other broadband services in terms of its coverage as
electric power has reached mostly all rural areas and because of it high–speed data access.
This seminar paper looked at a brief history of this technology, general overview, issues relating to
this technology, its application and the status quo of the technology

Effective Communication In Law Enforcement
The ability to communicate is of primary importance to a law enforcement officer's safety and
ability to serve the community (Giles, 2002). Communication is critical to modern law enforcement
agencies at every level, organizationally both vertical and horizontal, from the executive level right
down to the line level officer on the street (Dias & Vaughn, 2006, p. 551). Law enforcement officers
have a responsibility to communicate effectively, however, there are many impediments to good
communication in a law enforcement organization based on the structure itself. When
communication does not flow properly among the organization, problems arise leading to chaotic
dysfunction (Dias & Vaughn, 2006). Poor communication caused by ridged, formalized structure, is
difficult for law enforcement managers to recognize and adapt to when highly structured
communication creates gaps between the executive level and line level (Stojkovic, Kalinich, &
Klofas, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true of mid level managers who are adept at impression management and seek to
omit communication upward or downward if the communication can negatively affect their
impression (Babiak & Hare, 2006). Managerial ineptitude is the primary reason organizational
communication breaks down in the law enforcement agencies, but managers often look to place the
responsibility elsewhere (Dias & Vaughn, 2006, p. 544). According to Enter (2006), most managers
are improperly trained and unable to appropriately address communication dysfunction often caused
by the organizational rigidity and inability to create the proper environment allowing
communication to

The Safety Act Of The Stadium And The Facility Safety
Goal: Facility Safety In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium and the facility, we
have identified multiple potential vulnerabilities and steps to prevent a cyber attack that leads to
harm to any person in the stadium or the stadium. Although the SAFETY Act prevents an entity
from being held liable in the event of a terrorist attack, including a cyber terrorist attack, we believe
it is in the best interest of the stadium to accept the following recommendations. This allows the
stadium to create a safe and positive experience for all attendees. These recommendations include
responses to potential vulnerabilities such as emergency systems, power grids, and electronic
displays. Emergency Systems We believe that the emergency systems in stadiums are a
vulnerability. One of the main areas of concern are the alarms in stadiums. If hackers are able to
infiltrate the computer networks, there is a possibility of them being able to get access to the alarm–
management network and disable all of the alarms in a stadium. This could prove to be disastrous in
the case of an actual emergency because there would be no way to notify attendees to evacuate the
stadium, go on lockdown, or take any other precautions necessary in the case of an emergency. In
order to prevent this, we propose that all stadiums keep all operating systems up–to–date. By doing
so, this lessens the number of flaws in the operating system that can be taken advantage of by
hackers to infiltrate

ensure that everyone is well versed in company policy, as well as have knowledge of what to do in
case of an event such as the current crisis at the Roanoke branch. One such course would be on the
importance of communication between employees and superiors. All employees will learn when it is
necessary to hire additional help, when they really need to speak up, and that human resources is

The Role of Project Manager
Introduction
Nowadays, with the development of project management, project success has been defined clearly.
A definition of project success from Lock is that if the project finish on time, within budget and in
good quality, the project is considered as a successful project (Lock, 2007). However, our
understanding about the role of project manager is unclear. Different people hold various viewpoints
about it. According to Lewis, people have a vague understanding of what is the role of project
manager, because a majority of project managers are promoted from other jobs such as engineers or
technologists and so on (Lewis, 2007). Some individuals think that the role of the project manager is
to command and control. Is it enough for a project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actually, Project managers do need to command and control.
As I stated above, project manager is responsible for the project, which means that a project
manager needs to control the project' process for obtaining a successful completion of the project as
well as to command the stakeholders to follow the right path to realize the project' objective. But it
is important to emphasize that "command and control"is a purpose, not a process. Just like Bull said
that there is essential difference between a dictator and a leader, a dictator gives command to people
for doing something, but a leader inspires people to let them want to do things. The role of project
manager should be a leader, not a dictator (Bull, 2010). Lewis also thought that the biggest part of
project manager's job is dealing with people.
Even though project manager has quite little authority, it is not zero (Lewis 2010). Therefore, for
project managers, the biggest challenge should be how to your limited authority effectively. To
optimize the use of the authority, project managers need to build their leadership. Instead of using
your authority to build your leadership, project managers should use their people skill which
involves personality, management skill and communication skill. (Lewis, 2007, p. 27) So,
"command and control"is a purpose, not a process. Which means that project manager should be a
leader, not a dictator.
More important thing than "command and control"

Analysis Of The Sound Of Silence
In today's time, there is a multitude of ways in which people can talk to each other. Due to the
development of various kinds of technology, such as cell phones, people have a much easier time
with communication. Despite how easy modern society has made it to communicate with others, it
seems as if people today are not at all focused on meaningful communication, causing disconnection
amidst society. "The Sound of Silence", written by Paul Simon, explores the theme of disconnection
between people, due to a lack of meaningful communication. Through use of figurative language,
such as paradoxes, similes, and personification, "The Sound of Silence" scrutinizes the topic of
meaningful communication, and what can happen when there is a lack of ... Show more content on

The third verse of the song is where the problem of disconnection becomes known "Ten thousand
people, maybe more/People talking without speaking/People hearing without listening", (Lines 16–
18, Paul Simon). These lines show the main problem that the speaker encountered. A large group of
people, all communicating, but not meaningfully whatsoever. The deeper meaning of "The Sound of
Silence" helps articulate Paul Simon's message to listeners about life, i.e. the theme. "The Sound of
Silence" has a theme that is relevant to people today. This theme is that one should always try and
make meaningful communication with others. If one becomes too self–absorbed, a disconnection
will occur. Meaningful communication is the key to advancing as a civilization. A line in the song
which helps demonstrate Paul Simon's theme is found in the final verse: "The words of the
prophets/Are written on the subway walls", (Lines 32 – 33, Paul Simon). These lines explain that
words and ideas that were once important to humanity are now only seen alike graffiti, unimportant
and a nuisance. If all the teachings that humanity has already learned are ignored, civilization will
not advance. Civilization will rather fall back into the same mistakes it had already made, forever in
a perpetual state of limbo; not moving forward due to disconnection and ignorance, both of which
stemmed from communication problems. This message about life should not be ignored,

Reading Between the Text Message Lines: How a Culture...

Professor Hallawell

Reading between the text message lines:
How a culture becomes dependent on electronic communication and changes language skills
forever.
They are everywhere, in schoolyards, high school halls, businesses and even our own homes and
they are having an effect on our culture at this very minute. You may even be reading this on one
right now. They are cell phones and more and more they are being used for more than just talking;
they are being used to send e–mail, text, and instant messages. What originally started out as a way
to have more communication in case of emergencies and to have a way for teenagers and adults to
stay connected to what is going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her book, Always On, Naomi S. Baron coined a phrase "linguistic whateverism" to explain how a
new generation and group of people are rebelliously ignoring established rules for language.
There are unique features contained in e–mails, texts and IM's that give ease to conveying what one
wants to express. The first obvious aspect of texting is the use of abbreviations and contractions.
The English language uses contractions a lot of the time anyway in speech and writing. Don't, didn't,
isn't and can't are all part of everyone's vocabulary. What becomes obvious when text messages are
studied closer is that apostrophes nearly stop being used; only showing up around 30 percent of the
time. (Baron)
There is also another part of messaging that is used repeatedly. It is the practice of using logograms
or characters (letters) to signify words. These can be used alone or in small groupings such as b4
(before), l8 (late), and 2day (today). Usually time is of the essence in these types of messages so it
makes sense that these logograms would come into use. If this were just unique to electronic
messaging there would be no issue. However it is being seen that fewer students (of all ages) are
interested in other forms of communication and fewer have the ability to write their own papers for
school, etc. (Melton, Shankle) According to a BBC news article there has been a rise in the amount
of North Americans who buy there written assignments overseas online.

Keeping The Lines Of Communication
It 's tough to realize that less than 5 years ago we were living in a country of plenty. The U.S
Economy had plenty of jobs, plenty of housing, plenty of security. With the turn our economy has
taken, it 's easy to succumb to depression and despair. While our whole country is having difficulty
dealing with these hard times, you as an individual could be taking it worse. Avoiding depression in
these hard economic times is hard, but it can be done. Use these tips to help yourself and your loved
ones from losing control of your positive emotions. Communicate Keeping the lines of
communication open during hard times is the most important thing you can do to avoid depression.
When you feel down, it is an automatic response to close yourself off from those around you.
Letting yourself feel as if you have no one is the fastest road to depression. Talking with your spouse
and family members about the hard road ahead will allow you to keep the problem from over taking
you. Give Thanks Sometimes it 's hard to be thankful for what you have. If you or your spouse has
lost a job or had a reduction in salary giving thanks for still having at least one job or one salary may
seem hard to do. Depression can set in quickly if you aren 't careful and prepare yourself with the
defense to fight it off. Let yourself realize and be thankful for what you still have. Budget Yourself

The Aeronautical Telecommunication Network ( Atn )
2.3 AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (ATN) :
2.3.1 Introduction
In the early 1980s, the international civil aviation community started to express concern about the
limitations on existing facilities and procedures, and their inability to cope with increasing air traffic
in the future years. Consequently Special Committee on FANS was established to study, identify and
assess new concepts and technology in the field of air navigation, including satellite technology, and
also to make recommendations thereon for the development of air navigation for international civil
aviation over a period of 25 years. A major result was the global Communications, Navigation and
Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) concept which identified the use of data
communications and of satellite–based systems as being the two major areas of improvement to the
then existing systems. The CNS/ATM concept was further developed and redefined, after which the
Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) became an integral part of CNS/ATM systems.
The ATN comprises application entities and communication services which allow ground, air–
ground and avionics data subnetworks to interoperate. This is done by adopting common interface
services and protocols based on International Standards. The ATN has been designed to provide data
communication services to Air Traffic Service (ATS) provider organizations and Aircraft Operating
agencies for the following types of communication traffic:

Opening Communication Healthcare Teams

  • 1. Opening the Lines of Communication in Healthcare Opening the Lines of Communication in Healthcare For many nurses, speaking with physicians is a chore, while physicians snap at nurses for being bothersome. Why are the lines of communication in a presumably united interdisciplinary team so strained? More importantly, what effect does this have on patient care? Since there are many physical and intangible barriers that distort messages, assertive communication among doctors, nurses, and patients is vital in providing sound patient care. Ineffective Communication among Physicians and Nurses Poor communication within the healthcare team has a negative impact on how nurses implement patient care. According to Schmalenberg and Kramer (2009), the manner in which nurses and physicians interact and communicate is important because this correlates directly with the quality of care given to patients (p. 74–83). Nurses are an essential component of the healthcare team because they are the patient's advocate, constantly at the bedside, and most significantly the first ones to find any emergent crises in the patient's medical condition. If physicians do not listen to what nurses have to say, they are not only shutting down the nurse; they are essentially shutting down the patient, whose best interests are advocated by the nurse when the patient is incapable of doing so. Second, nurses are constantly at the bedside of their patients usually for twelve hours a day. In contrast, physicians can have dozens of patients throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Leadership and Communication Across Generational Lines... Introduction Today's leader is faced with many challenges, and one is the generational divide that exists in the workplace today. With four different generations working together it is clear that each group has their own preference for communication. Throughout the context of this paper I will explore the generational differences, and describe the characteristics of my generation with regard to leadership and communication styles. I will also describe how technology and the information age play a role in how leaders communicate. Finally, I will identify basic communication skills that are needed and used in generational leadership. Do leaders communicate differently due to their age or generation? According to Huggins (2008), "it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The generation Y group was born between 1982 and 2000 (Huggins, 2008). This generation grew up with the internet, and relies heavily on instant communications through use of cell phones, text messages and social networking sites (Huggins, 2008). Their communication style is instant using technology all the time, and much less formal than previous generations. I do believe that leaders communicate differently based on age and generation. As a late generation baby boomer I find that I have adopted my communication style to the current times, but still garner traditional communication styles as well. I do utilize technology to the fullest; I no longer receive a newspaper, but keep up with current events by reading them on the internet. As a leader I communicate often by e–mail, but still enjoy face to face meetings and team collaboration. I like to surprise people with a hand written note and send it in the mail, something later generations rarely do. Leadership and Communication Characteristics of Baby Boomers Most baby boomers grew up watching their traditionalist parents work very hard to make ends meet and take care of the family unit. As a result of their upbringing many boomers have adopted their parent's strong work ethics; working hard, long hours trying to climb the corporate ladder. Baby boomers still enjoy personal face to face interactions and building rapport with people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Internet Of Things : The Roles And Uses Of The... What is IoT? The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer–based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. 3Rishab 1. 4. "Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters, automobiles with built–in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring or field operation devices that assist fire–fighters in search and rescue operations. These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices. 4Rishab 2. 5. The concept of the Internet of Things first became popular in 1999, through the Auto–ID Center at MIT and related market–analysis publications. R Radio–frequency identification (RFID) was seen as a prerequisite for the IoT at that point. If all objects and people in daily life were equipped with identifiers, computers could manage and inventory them. Besides using RFID, the tagging of things may be achieved through such technologies as near field communication, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Serial Peripheral Interphase The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi–directional (full duplex) serial data protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral devices that are all of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for communication between two microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards and Multiwii flight controllers. In general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a microcontroller which controls one or more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the master and the slaves share three common lines which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out) which is responsible for transferring data from the slave to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave In) which is responsible for transferring data from the master to the slaves; and SCK (Serial Clock) which is created by the master and is responsible for synchronising the transmission of data between master and slave in respect clock pulses. There is also SS (Slave Select) line that is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which the master can use to enable and disable specific slave devices. In the case a slave device's SS pin is low, communication is enabled with the master. However in the case it is high, communication is disabled with the master. This allows multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI, and CLK lines. Full duplex data transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the master in which the master ... • 5. The Components Of Mass Communication For many years now, the task of creating a more stable and reliable form of communication for sharing information with people as well as with the world is something that many people across the globe have studied, redesigned, improved, and rebuilt. The spark of mass communication is all thanks to one man named Alexander Graham Bell who invented the first telephone. Bell's invention of the telephone has opened a multitude of opportunities that have extended the way we communicate in the world today. Bell's invention went public on March 7, 1916, and many people gathered to see a demonstration that would start a revolution of communication beyond even Bell's imagination (A Rural Broadband...). "That evenings demonstration made clear that the telephone service was poised to revolutionize communications and unite every part of the country..." (A Rural Broadband...). Bell's invention was the first reliable, and cost–effective way for communication until just a few decades later when someone decided to take Bell's invention to the next level and help to bring us public Internet. Just like Bell, AT&T is determined to create the world's first truly reliable and cost–effective Internet connection for rural areas by revisiting an old concept that, at the time, was proved not reliable. I believe that we can help to cut cost even more by creating a partnership between the FCC and the DOE (Department of Energy). Using AT&T's current plans, we can partner with other companies and government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Central Line Blood Draw Reflective Essay For the sterile skill video validation, I performed a Central Line Blood Draw. Looking at the course rubric, I can evaluate myself on the five course components – clinical judgement, communication, collaboration, safety, and professional identity. In relation to clinical judgement, I thought aloud during my video, I demonstrated the appropriate skill, and I prioritized the intervention. In relation to communication, not much communication occurred, as I did not have a real patient or another team member during the video validation. Although I did not have a real patient with me, I did introduce myself and my role, as well as documented my care clearly, concisely, and accurately. In the hospital setting, I would also demonstrate therapeutic communication with the patient. Similarly to communication, this video validation did not require me to collaborate with other team members. Compared to the other four course components, I would state that this ... In the future, I will check for my sharps container prior to beginning the skill, as to prevent the same event from occurring. For myself, I have one critique. I would like to work on communicating with the patient more while I am performing a skill. While it is difficult to do during a video validation, as no one can respond, therapeutic communication is essential to nursing. By communication with the patient, it could reduce anxiety, increase knowledge, and enhance a trusting bond. Overall, I am satisfied with my video ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between the Lines: The Importance of Nonverbal Communication The symbols we use to communicate are the vital fabric that holds human society together. Every day, billions of people around the globe use a plethora of symbols to relay information, exchange ideas, and solve problems. When these symbols are used in an effective way, they can change how someone views life, rouse people to a common cause, or infuse emotions and ideas into those that can understand. But what kind of symbols am I referring to? Most would think that I speak of verbal, oral, and textual symbols, and, to a certain extent, they are correct. When I meet somebody for the very first time, my impression of them before they speak is made largely on how they look. During that period, questions such as "is he/she well dressed or well groomed?" or "is his/her apparel appropriate?" usually cross my mind; while I know that my rapid assessment of a person by appearance is by no means fair, accurate, or thorough, it nonetheless a powerful factor in first time impressions that gives some insight into a person. As a result of this, I change my appearance depending on what is deemed appropriate by the social situation. If I am attending a formal lecture or seminar, for example, I definitely would not throw on a T–shirt and jeans, as it would be deemed inappropriate by those attending. Rather, I would suit up for the occasion and wear something more formal. On a similar note, it would be both outrageous and impractical for me to attend a workshop or activity of some kind that demanded physical activity; the social circumstance deems it inappropriate and I would be sending a negative symbol. Another form of nonverbal symbols is proxemics. It is a form of nonverbal symbolism that pertains to "personal space"; more specifically, it deals with the physical distance between a person and the individual that he/she is interacting with. • 18. Research On Information Metering And Measurement Information Metering and Measurement Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point. a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for obtaining information from end users' devices and appliances, while also controlling the performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure, and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two–way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization. b) Smart meters, which carry two–way communications amid the meter and the central system, are like in many aspects to AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI. A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes. CEBus based products consist mainly of a transceiverwhich implements spread spectrum technology along with a controller to run the protocol. The given protocol standards are for radio frequency, twisted pair, power line communication and a number of other networking methods. The CEBus PLDT standard specifies that a binary digit is represented by how long a frequency burst is applied to the channel i.e, a binary '1' is represented by a 100 microsecond burst, whilst a binary '0' is represented by a 200 microsecond burst. CEBus transmission rate varies with how many '0' characters, and how many '1' characters are transmitted. The CEBus standard specifies a language of object oriented controls including commands for volume up/down, temperature up one degree, etc. Due to the high noise level of power line channels, data should be transmitted via short frames, which is assured by the use of the spread spectrum technology. CEBus protocol uses a Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection and Resolution (CSMA/CDCR) protocol to avoid data collisions. CEBus is a commercially owned protocol, and thus attracts registration fees. 2.3 iii) LonWorks technology This technology was developed by Echelon Corporation. Communication is critical to modern law enforcement agencies at every level, organizationally both vertical and horizontal, from the executive level right down to the line level officer on the street (Dias & Vaughn, 2006, p. 551). Law enforcement officers have a responsibility to communicate effectively, however, there are many impediments to good communication in a law enforcement organization based on the structure itself. When communication does not flow properly among the organization, problems arise leading to chaotic dysfunction (Dias & Vaughn, 2006). Poor communication caused by ridged, formalized structure, is difficult for law enforcement managers to recognize and adapt to when highly structured communication creates gaps between the executive level and line level (Stojkovic, Kalinich, & Klofas, 2014). ... The Safety Act Of The Stadium And The Facility Safety Goal: Facility Safety In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium and the facility, we have identified multiple potential vulnerabilities and steps to prevent a cyber attack that leads to harm to any person in the stadium or the stadium. Although the SAFETY Act prevents an entity from being held liable in the event of a terrorist attack, including a cyber terrorist attack, we believe it is in the best interest of the stadium to accept the following recommendations. This allows the stadium to create a safe and positive experience for all attendees. These recommendations include responses to potential vulnerabilities such as emergency systems, power grids, and electronic displays. Emergency Systems We believe that the emergency systems in stadiums are a vulnerability. One of the main areas of concern are the alarms in stadiums. If hackers are able to infiltrate the computer networks, there is a possibility of them being able to get access to the alarm– management network and disable all of the alarms in a stadium. This could prove to be disastrous in the case of an actual emergency because there would be no way to notify attendees to evacuate the stadium, go on lockdown, or take any other precautions necessary in the case of an emergency. In order to prevent this, we propose that all stadiums keep all operating systems up–to–date. A definition of project success from Lock is that if the project finish on time, within budget and in good quality, the project is considered as a successful project (Lock, 2007). However, our understanding about the role of project manager is unclear. Different people hold various viewpoints about it. According to Lewis, people have a vague understanding of what is the role of project manager, because a majority of project managers are promoted from other jobs such as engineers or technologists and so on (Lewis, 2007). Some individuals think that the role of the project manager is to command and control. Is it enough for a project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actually, Project managers do need to command and control. As I stated above, project manager is responsible for the project, which means that a project manager needs to control the project' process for obtaining a successful completion of the project as well as to command the stakeholders to follow the right path to realize the project' objective. But it is important to emphasize that "command and control"is a purpose, not a process. Just like Bull said that there is essential difference between a dictator and a leader, a dictator gives command to people for doing something, but a leader inspires people to let them want to do things. The role of project manager should be a leader, not a dictator (Bull, 2010). Lewis also thought that the biggest part of project manager's job is dealing with people. Even though project manager has quite little authority, it is not zero (Lewis 2010). Therefore, for project managers, the biggest challenge should be how to your limited authority effectively. To optimize the use of the authority, project managers need to build their leadership. Instead of using your authority to build your leadership, project managers should use their people skill which involves personality, management skill and communication skill. (Lewis, 2007, p. 27) So, "command and control"is a purpose, not a process. Which means that project manager should be a leader, not a dictator. More important thing than "command and control" As ... "The Sound of Silence", written by Paul Simon, explores the theme of disconnection between people, due to a lack of meaningful communication. The deeper meaning of "The Sound of Silence" helps articulate Paul Simon's message to listeners about life, i.e. the theme. "The Sound of Silence" has a theme that is relevant to people today. This theme is that one should always try and make meaningful communication with others. If one becomes too self–absorbed, a disconnection will occur. Meaningful communication is the key to advancing as a civilization. A line in the song which helps demonstrate Paul Simon's theme is found in the final verse: "The words of the prophets/Are written on the subway walls", (Lines 32 – 33, Paul Simon). These lines explain that words and ideas that were once important to humanity are now only seen alike graffiti, unimportant and a nuisance. If all the teachings that humanity has already learned are ignored, civilization will not advance. There are unique features contained in e–mails, texts and IM's that give ease to conveying what one wants to express. The first obvious aspect of texting is the use of abbreviations and contractions. The English language uses contractions a lot of the time anyway in speech and writing. Don't, didn't, isn't and can't are all part of everyone's vocabulary. What becomes obvious when text messages are studied closer is that apostrophes nearly stop being used; only showing up around 30 percent of the time. (Baron) There is also another part of messaging that is used repeatedly. It is the practice of using logograms or characters (letters) to signify words. These can be used alone or in small groupings such as b4 (before), l8 (late), and 2day (today). Usually time is of the essence in these types of messages so it makes sense that these logograms would come into use. If this were just unique to electronic messaging there would be no issue. However it is being seen that fewer students (of all ages) are interested in other forms of communication and fewer have the ability to write their own papers for school, etc. (Melton, Shankle) According to a BBC news article there has been a rise in the amount of North Americans who buy there written assignments overseas online. ... The Aeronautical Telecommunication Network ( Atn ) 2.3 AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (ATN) : 2.3.1 Introduction In the early 1980s, the international civil aviation community started to express concern about the limitations on existing facilities and procedures, and their inability to cope with increasing air traffic in the future years. Consequently Special Committee on FANS was established to study, identify and assess new concepts and technology in the field of air navigation, including satellite technology, and also to make recommendations thereon for the development of air navigation for international civil aviation over a period of 25 years. A major result was the global Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) concept which identified the use of data communications and of satellite–based systems as being the two major areas of improvement to the then existing systems. The CNS/ATM concept was further developed and redefined, after which the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) became an integral part of CNS/ATM systems. The ATN comprises application entities and communication services which allow ground, air– ground and avionics data subnetworks to interoperate. This is done by adopting common interface services and protocols based on International Standards. The ATN has been designed to provide data communication services to Air Traffic Service (ATS) provider organizations and Aircraft Operating agencies for the following types of communication traffic: 1.
