Essay On Helen Keller
Helen Keller House and Museum at Ivy Green When I heard about this assignment I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I heard about a
special lady who was born in Tuscumbia Alabama. The special lady I was referring too was Helen Keller, I didn't really know much about her
except for the fact that she was blind and deaf. I have also heard about the play and the movie "Miracle Worker" that was based off of her life. Little
did I know I was in for a treat, learning about this magnificent woman's life and the influence she had on the deaf community. Helen Keller's early life
started in Tuscumbia Alabama where she was born and raised. Helen home was located on 600 acres of land which was massive compared to what we
have now. Her home was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period when children contracted this disease most children died, but fortunately Helen survived. She did not come out of this
unharmed she became blind and deaf. As a result Helen became a lot more of a problem child. Instead of sitting and eating with the rest of the
family she would walk around the table and take food off of each of their plates. Also if Helen didn't receive what she wanted she would throw
temper tantrums until she got her way. Once during one of her outburst she began to beat her hands so hard on the hardwood floor that her hands
began to bleed. Helen later said during her time as a child she felt as if she was trapped in her own mind. Her parents had to do something, so they
hired a teacher whose name was Anne Sullivan who was educated and graduated from the Perkins Institute at the age of twenty. This would be Anne's
first job helping to educate Helen. Mr. Keller offered her thirty–five dollars a month to move from Boston to their home in Alabama to with Helen. For
the first few weeks Anne just observed Helen during her everyday activities, but one day Helen decided to take a piece of sausage from Anne's plate
just as times before, but Anne slapped her hand and putting her hand to her face and moving it from side to side saying "No"! This was a new
concept to Helen because no one had ever told her no before. Because of this Helen

Differences Between The Miracle Worker Book And Movie
Imagine living in a world without sound and everything is pitch black. Well, welcome to the amazing world of Helen Keller. Helen is a girl who
grew up in Alabama who is blind, deaf, and mute. The astounding book The Miracle Worker by William Gibson captures her unbelievable story. The
book that he wrote is in play form not original text, so there is a movie that comes with the novel. The Miracle Worker the movie was released in
2000. The film is directed by Nadia Tass, starring Alison Elliott as Annie Sullivan, who is Helen's teacher and helps her out of her world, and also
stars Hallie Kate as the Helen Keller. Even though the book and the movie have many similarities, they are different in their own way. First of all, the
book and the movie have all of the important parts of Helen Keller's story. For example, in the beginning after Annie meets Helen, Helen locks Annie
in her room. This scene shows how Helen tries to get rid of Annie even though this trick doesn't work so easily against Annie. Another example, the
next day Annie, Helen, and her family have breakfast. At breakfast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the reader is introduced to Helen as a baby. Meanwhile, in the motion picture the watcher is introduce to Helen when she's six years old.
This a major difference because the reader views how Helen started unlike the watcher of the movie. Another example, in the story Helen is
pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts
Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in
the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her " killing" her brother. Even with these
differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen

The Pardoned Parent Essay
The Pardoned Parent
There is a new breed of parent walking among us. Whether we recognized it or not, we have all run into one of them at one time or another. Maybe
it was the young mother in the grocery store who handed her screeching child the candy she had just finished telling him he could not have. Maybe
it was the man who sat obliviously behind you on the airplane, while his little boy ran up and down the aisle, screaming at the top of his lungs.
These are the pardoned parents. To pardon means to excuse, absolve, exonerate, condone, or justify. A pardon for a crime can be granted by a head
of state, such as a monarch or a president. If a pardon is granted, it means the person is absolved of all wrong–doing and any punishment ... Show more

Many people have faced disabilities of some type and overcome them. Helen Keller is one of the most famous examples of this. Helen was both deaf
and blind. As a young child, her parents thought that her disabilities made her unteachable. Because they pitied her, they allowed her to do as she
pleased. They set no boundaries for her in any area of her life until a young teacher, Annie Sullivan, who was visually impaired herself, came to
teach Helen. Miss Sullivan taught not only Helen, but also Helen's family. Under her guidance, the family learned that Helen's disabilities did not
necessarily mean that she could never function as a useful member of society. They learned to set boundaries for Helen and to expect more from her.
As a result of the changes in the way Helen was raised after Miss Sullivan arrived, Helen grew up to become a world–famous speaker and author (The
Miracle Worker).
Just because an illness or condition has only recently been named does not mean that it did not exist before it was named. Asperger's Syndrome was
not known as a disease until 1992, but this does not mean that it suddenly appeared on the planet at that time. It is widely believed that many
successful people such as; William Henry Gates, Sir Alfred Hitchcock, SirIsaac Newton, Jane Austen, and Albert Einstein suffered from Asperger's
Syndrome. Having this syndrome

Helen Keller Analysis
Helen Keller was born normal, however, shortly after being born she suffered an illness that caused her to be both blind and deaf. There is a
movie about Helen's struggle called "The Miracle Worker". There is also a story by Helen Keller with called "The Day Language Came into My
Life". Both the story and the movie, display how the miracles of language and learning allowed Helen to overcome many obstacles in her life. This
essay's purpose is to perform a literary critique of both the movie and the excerpt about Helen Keller. Anne and Helen's characters, points of view, and
situation show the constant struggle of the desire for more knowledge even though the odds are against her. The characters of Anne and Helen both
offer different elements to this story. In the story and movie, Helen is portrayed as lost in her younger years. She does not know right from wrong;
all she knows is happiness and anger. The movie shows a scene that involves Helen walking around taking food off of her family members plates.
The family does nothing to stop Helen. They allow her to take whatever she wants so that they can continue in conversation. This is appalling to
Helen's teacher, Anne Sullivan. When Helen tries to take something off of her plate she reacts and cannot believe the family allows this. This scene
displays how Helen's life has been thus far. It shows that because of her condition, her family never made her mind any manners. This led to Helen
knowing no difference between right and

Stockholm Syndrome Or Norrmalmstorg Syndrome
Love can form in many different ways; maybe from first sight, childhood memories, recent times or kidnapping–wait what? As ridiculous as it sounds,
falling in love for your captor or abuser has been an actual phenomenon that unfortunately exists in our world; Often called Stockholm Syndrome, Or
Norrmalmstorg Syndrome , it is a psychological condition that makes the captive believe in an alliance with their captor. On August 23, 1973 in
Stockholm, Sweden 4 bank workers were taken in hostage by Jan–Erik Olsson for a 6 day stand–off with the police at the Kreditbaken until the
workers were finally released; Jan–Erik was immediately put under arrest after surrendering. However, once the captives were freed, they showed
shocking behavior of showing sympathy and made positive relationships with Jan–Erik; this baffled people when the captives started acting like this
considering the fact that Olsson and his accomplice Clark Olofsson tortured them with nooses and dynamite sticks and threatened to kill them many
times during those 131 hours. Gaining the name thanks to Nils Bejerot, a criminologist and psychiatrist, after he analyzed the victims' brains. A year
later in 1974 came another case of the syndrome; Patty Hearst, the granddaughter and heiress of William Randolph Hearst, was held captive by the
Symbionese Liberation Army and brainwashed into accepting their ideas. In April she was caught robbing a bank in San Francisco via CCTV and
was sentenced to 7 years of prison in

Persuasive Speech About Whataburger
Nothing like a fresh, savory, juicy number 1 after school; when your hunger is an uproar. I will tell you, Whataburger always hits the spot if your

have been enjoying Whataburger since the 1950's. do you know what makes it the best burger in town? Is the fresh vegetables and beef patties that
give your reassurance of eating a meal that is not so "fast"? The number of options you can choose from on the menu keeps us coming back more and

state and even in your hometown.
Despite many fast food joints in many Texas local cities, Whataburger remains one of the besthamburger joint in the state. The Texas chain was pitted
against 31 other regional and national chains in a recent bracket style competition put on by Fast company, a tech and lifestyle magazine. When Fast
Company first launched the competition, they focused on the east coast versus west coast rivalry, even making a video to go along with their poll in
which west coast favorites rap battled with east coast favorites. But readers quickly set the record straight, voting for Texas–born Whataburger in larger
numbers than any other chain, including California favorite In–N–Out Burger and Virginia–born chain Five Guys. What a

observed the learner/accomplice being prepared with electrodes strapped in a chair. The teacher/subjects read a series of word–pairs to the learner then
read the first word of the pair along with four terms. The learner's role was to pair the first word with the correct term (Milgram, 1963). The learner
would then press one of four switches attached to an electrical shock generator indicating his response. Unknown to the teacher, "in all conditions the
learner gives a predetermined set of responses to the word pair test, based on the schedule of approximately three wrong answers to one correct
answer" (Milgram, 1963). To authenticate the potential electrical intensity to the learner the teacher is sampled with a 45–volt shock to the wrist. The
teacher is then instructed to administer an incrementally increasing punishing electrical shock for each incorrect answer. This follows several methods
to inform the teacher of the potential impact of the electrical shock that they will administer. These included, warnings listing the voltage range of 15 to

Patty Hearst Case Study
The Radical Case of Patty Hearst Patricia Hearst was abducted from her apartment in Berkley, California, when she was just 19 years old (Orth). Her
abductors were a radical terrorist group, and their ultimate goal was to take somebody of status and hold them hostage as leverage for what they
wanted. Patty was the daughter of William Randolph Hearst and Catherine Campbell, both of whom were wealthy and had a large image in the
newspaper industry (Patty Hearst Outlaws). Patty would be held for nearly two months in captivity in rigorous conditions while the group decided
what they would be attempting to take her parents for. It was not long before the group was committing crimes and Patricia was alongside them, which

until this point, Patty had been a victim, and she had now become a suspect, and the police had begun to look for a suspect and not an abductee. This

A Report On Stockholm Syndrome
Abstract
According to the United States Department of Justice reports, each year nearly 800,000 children are claimed to be missing. This shows that each day,
over 2,000 children are reported missing. Kidnappings occur for a variety of reasons, and at the hands of many different people ("Children Exploitation
and Obscenity Section", n.d.). For example, the United States Department of Justice claims that 203,000 children are kidnapped by family members
annually, while 58,200 are abducted by individuals outside of the family annually ("Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section", n.d.). Kidnappings
occur more frequently than the public realizes. The physical and psychological affects being kidnapped has on the victim varies for each individual. One
reaction to hostile kidnappings or hostage situations is the development of Stockholm syndrome. According to the FBI law enforcement bulletin,
Understanding Stockholm Syndrome by De Fabrique, Romano, Vecchi, and Van Hasselt (2007), nearly 27% of kidnapping victims display signs of
Stockholm syndrome.
Kidnapping Victims and Stockholm Syndrome
What is Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the victim identifies with their captor (Namnyak, Tufton,
Szekely, Toal, Worboys, & Sampson, 2008). This may be apparent through sympathy, positive feelings toward their captor, and some even defend their
kidnapper (Namnyak, et. al., 2008). The syndrome arises from the stress of the fear when the

Stockholm Syndrome In Beauty And The Beast
Both the protagonists in the Beauty in the Beast trope display the characteristics of Stockholm syndrome. Beauty and the Beast is a tale that has
withstood time. The tale can be traced back to 2nd century AD Cupid and Psyche by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis. Stockholm syndrome is "a
psychological syndrome in which a person being held captive begins to identify with and grow sympathetic to his or her captor" (Stockholm Syndrome
1). There are three main psychological characteristics to Stockholm syndrome, the first being that the hostage develops positive feelings towards their
captor, the second being that the captor also develops feelings for the hostage, and the final one being that the hostage has negative feelings towards the
authorities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome is the hostage develops positive feelings towards their captor and sympathizes with them. In "The Toad
(1869)" by FranГ§ois –Marie Luzel the beauty displays the first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome and ends up developing feelings for the beast,
which is a toad in this version. The toad forces the father to give him one of his daughter so the youngest daughter becomes his hostage and succumbs
to the disgusting toad's wishes and marries him. An example of the female lead displaying her positive feelings for the toad is when the toad leaves
her and she continues pursuing him despite the toad becoming abusive and punching her in the face (Luzel 228). Namyak et al. a group of researchers
from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in London state "this bond develops as part of the victim's defense mechanism to allow
them to sympathize with their captor, leading to an acceptance of the situation, limiting defiance⁄aggression toward the captor and thus
maintaining survival in an otherwise potentially high–risk scenario" (4–5). This proves that she has developed Stockholm syndrome for survival
purposes because Beauty is at risk so she is forced to have positive feelings for the toad and love him despite the unhappiness of being torn away from
her father and siblings. The maiden searches for the toad for two years straight out of her devotion and positive feelings towards him. The maiden
continues the pursuits,

the writer mentions "Hearst spent more than $8 million of family money in his first decade of newspaper work." Moreover, he purchased another
newspaper, the New York Journal, and he owned more than two dozen newspaper nationwide. According to his profile, the writer said "In fact,
nearly one in four Americans got their news from a Hearst paper." Therefore, the more he purchased the newspaper companies, the more he became
influence in that area because more than half of the people in the United States read his newspaper in that period of time. Furthermore, the yellow
journalism was emerged in the late 19th century because of William Hearst, and that new term helped start the Spanish War. In the Article of

5. How is the conversation about Vicksburg that James and Captain Keller have at breakfast–the conversation that is interrupted by the battle between
Annie and Helen–symbolic? Explain its relationship to the long, dialogue–free section of this act during which Annie and Helen struggle against one
another.
Answer: This was symbolic because all the other characters wanted Annie to stop and just let Helen get what she wanted but Annie was persistent.
This was I think one of the best parts in the book just because of how persistent Annie is. After the long battle between the two Annie had gotten
Helen to eat her own food off of a plate and also fold her own napkin. All the characters were also thinking about sending Annie home until after this
when Helen ran outside a complete mess and reached for her mother like she was a savior, and then found out that Annie had gotten Helen to eat her
own food off of a plate and also fold her own napkin. After this the whole family and workers were completely awestruck, I thought this was very
symbolic.
6. Describe Helen's actions after she recognizes that water has a name. What does her behavior show about the beliefs that Annie Sullivan has

Wassily Kandinsky: An Introduction For The Patty Hearst Case
Page 3 Saya Yoshida Wassily Kandinsky An Introduction for the Patty Hearst Case The reason why I chose Wassily Kandinsky for my report is that I
am fascinated with the characteristic of his artworks which possess fantastic designs with the powerful color combinations. He is well– known as one
of the pioneers of abstract modern artist, and among abstract art around the world, the remarkable features of his artworks are a lot of combinations of
many colored geometric figures. Kansinsky's early abstract paintings have something in common with Fauvism, which is defined as the artworks with

I think that Kandinsky wanted to express the geometric shapes and these depth, rhythm, and floating feeling because the theme of his artworks is to
express the inspiration of sounds by colors and shapes. Many circles are spread on the canvas, but it is not just an erratic composition, and it looks as
if it has a consistency by combinations of perfect circles, colors, and sizes. The title of this artwork, Several Circles, helps me to understand how the
important motif the circle in Kandinsky's artworks is. However, by this title, I would not know that the artwork represents the harmony of sounds,
colors, and shapes unless I know his background, attitude, and thought towards

Women's Magazines and Cinderella
In the world today much of the literature aimed at the feminine audience keeps us trapped in the role of "Cinderella." We think of ourselves as the
poor, helpless, and uncared for woman who needs to be saved. The covers, the advertisements, and most articles in women's magazines reinforce what
it means to be an ideal woman in today's society.
Pick up most any feminine magazine in your grocery store today, and it will define for you what it to be feminine in the year 2000. It defines most
women as being slim happy wives, with great careers and wonderful children. One example of this journalistic nonsense is the magazine Redbook. The

Movie Review: the Help Essay
"The Help"
An emotionally stirring movie taking place in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s, "The Help" stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer as
three women who share a common motive. This racially tense setting creates the perfect foundation for a drama film such as this. The characters'
personalities in combination with the emotion of the plot develop a socially accurate depiction of the struggles faced by the people of the time. While
the racial aspect of the movie is dominant, viewers may also find compassion and friendship within the conversations and encounters of its characters.

Most dresses fell below the knees and were patterned in floral prints and clean hemlines. The maids were shown wearing their uniforms for the
majority of the movie, which also displayed modest hemlines and were a pale grey color. The men of Jackson, Mississippi– the few that were shown,
at least– were shown wearing clean–lined suits and cuffed trousers. These middle class people who dressed to impress successfully created an air of
cleanliness and uniformity. The sets of "The Help" were so well designed and accurately portrayed that they probably drew feelings of nostalgia
from audience members who grew up in the time. Linoleum tiles and paneled walls created an ideal setting for a ranch house of a family of middle
class status. Elizabeth's house looked like it was taken from a Good Housekeeping magazine of the sixties. The clean lines and wooden ranch tables
made the viewer absorb the atmosphere and feel as though they were living in the time. The women's homes had plenty of floral wallpaper and
patterned rugs to add to this feeling. Overall, "The Help" provides an insightful storyline taking place in the roughness of the simmering racial
prejudices of the 1960s. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and felt like I knew the strong characters on a personal level and lived through the pain of the
time with them. The sets and costumes were well designed and came together to play a crucial role in the formation of the plot. I recommend this

Hamburger Essay
Big Tasty Hamburger At times when we are in a hurry, hamburgers are one of the easiest foods to eat while on the go. No matter what time it is
whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner we grab a hamburger and might throw in some fries and a soda to go with it. Many restaurants are known to
make their hamburgers in a specific way. Preparation differs from restaurant to restaurant. But what really makes a hamburger taste so delicious?
Depending where you go they will taste different but they are all structured the same. It consists of a bun, a ground meat patty and often ingredients

hamburger is easy to make like writing is not as hard as you think. Writing is very simple to do as preparing a hamburger. Although, most of the
time hamburgers are dry and taste like cardboard. They are the ones that tend to not be juicy or appealing to the eye. Believe it or not, essays are

We are so eager to paint the picture of a road as being a two–way street that we forget that sometimes there might be other roads attached on the sides
of those two roads that lie ahead. One of these instances that I plan on exploring further past the naked human eye is the Stockholm Syndrome. I plan on

who some of the symptoms that the people affected with this condition could potentially present. Of course, like many great, well known conditions
that are present in the world, there are some ethical dilemmas that are of topic amongst the population. For an example, some of the people that are
affected with the disease might participate in illegal activities. Should the people be convicted of the crimes that they involuntarily participated in or be
excused of the crimes? Another area that also plan to investigate about the Stockholm Syndrome is the embedded health messages that are in the
entertainment media; specifically the movies that are produced and aired for the public to watch, relate and educate.

The Miracle Worker Analysis
The Miracle Worker, is written by William Gibson. It recounts the transformational story of Helen Keller, a visually impaired and hard of hearing
young girl who learns from a unique instructor, Anne Sullivan, how to live in the world. At the point when Helen is nineteen months old, she had
gotten a disease that left her visually impaired and hard of hearing. Not comprehending what to do about this condition, her family ruins her. When she
was six years of age, Keller's discouragement and disappointment with her segregation and powerlessness to impart are clear in her hissy fits–she is
wild and unmanageable. Her familyrequests help from the Perkins Institute for the Blindand hiresAnne Sullivan, an instructor from the school. At the
point when Anne initially arrives, she experiences a wild Helen, undisciplined and reveled by her family. Anne comprehends Helen's reality since she,
herself, is visually impaired. She likewise comprehends Helen's mom's hesitance to standardize Helen, and her franticness to maintain a strategic
distance from that choice. Anne starts fingerspelling words in Helen's grasp to show her to convey, and Helen reacts well. Anne acknowledges, in any
case, this is a round of remembrance for Helen, that she doesnot understand the fingerspelling has importance outside the game. At the point when the
family can't uphold the new principles Anne prescribes for Helen, she persuades the family to permit her aggregate detachment with Helen in the
garden house.

How Does Gibson Create Tension In The Miracle Worker
The Miracle Worker is a play written by William Gibson. It takes place in southern U.S. and is a story about the Keller family. Captain and Kate
Keller are the parents of Helen, a child who is both deaf and blind. There are many disagreements in the Keller household which causes tension.
Annie Sullivan comes to see if she can teach Helen, and she finds that Helen's disabilities are not the only factor causing tension. In the end, Annie not
only creates a miracle by educating Helen, but she also causes a miracle to occur when she succeeds in teaching the Kellers that their pity towards
Helen is only worsening her behavior. Annie immediately sees that one of Helen's handicaps is her family's pity and by fighting to stop it, she shows

They are "stammering" because they did not think Helen has ability to learn. This scene contains symbolism with keys. In the passage above
Helen takes the keys from Kate and gives them to Annie. The keys are a symbol of unlocking the treasure of knowledge inside Helen. The text
says Helen is using "both hands groping, to find ANNIE." This is important because When Annie first met Helen, Helen did not want anything to do
with her. Now Helen looks for Annie for help and comfort. Helen now trusts Annie enough to give her the keys. The text states that in this moment
Kate "simultaneously finds and loses a child". After years of not being able to communicate with her own child, Kate has finally done so because of
Annie's work. Even though this scene can be viewed as a transfer of primary guardianship, it can also be interpreted in a more positive way. Before
Annie arrived at the Keller house, they did not know how to deal with Helen. Annie showed them that Helen is smart and capable if given the
opportunity to thrive. By taking care of Helen, Annie has opened up emotional and physical space for the Kellers to deal with matters that do not
concern their daughter. Annie's actions show James how to stand up to his father, and show Keller that he is not always

Number Five: You Can 't Smoke the Entire Plant. Marijuana is the name referring to the dried leaves of stems of thehemp plant. It also goes by the
name cannabis, or nickname "Mary Jane" or "weed" (among various others). When the plant is eaten or its burning fumes are inhaled, its non–narcotic
chemical compound known as THC increases production of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the brain. It also produces other sensual
effects, ranging from sedation to stimulation and decreased sensitivity.
Number Four: In the Beginning, it was a Legal Requirement to Grow It. As England began to colonize America, a law was sanctioned that each colony
must grow a specified, mandatory amount of cannabis plants to meet crop requirements for hemp trade. In fact, George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson each maintained their own hemp farms, from which the Declaration of Independence was drafted on paper

Similarities Between The Hearst Castle And The Topakapi...
Title That I Haven't Figured Out Yet
The drastic difference in time periods between the Hearst Castle and the Topakapi Palace leads to the differentiation in materiality and function, but the
similarities of both the structures come together with the grandiosity of the project and the lasting effect of the architecture. While the Hearst Castle was
initially built just to accommodate the Hearst family, the Topakapi palace was built for Mehmed II and his dynasty. After a long line of collaboration
with the Hearst family, Julia Morgan was assigned to design a space forWilliam Randolph Hearst in San Simeon because he was "tired of going up
and camping" and wanted "something that would be more comfortable".[1] Morgan began construction in 1919, and started with guest houses, since
Hearst put emphasis on the idea of having his family and friends over. Additionally, Morgan partially based her design on the tower of the church at
Ronda in Southern Spain, a favorite site of Hearst. The California location gave Morgan and Hearst the excuse to resemble and mimic the renaissance
style of Southern Spain. Controversy, the Topakapi Palace was originally built in 1465 by the Sultan Mehmed II and his reign. The Topakapi Palace
was a center for administration, education and most importantly, to accommodate the Sultan. Aspects of religion and spirituality were highly active
through the site and the rich diversity of Islamic architecture was prevalent throughout the space. Despite the

The Miracle Worker Analysis
The Miracle Worker The play "The Miracle Worker", by William Gibson is based on Helen Keller, a young woman who was blind and deaf and
her teacher Ms. Sullivan. Helen grows up and becomes educated and matures. The play starts off with Helen nearly dying from a sickness, but
surprisingly survives. Kate, her mother, notices that the baby can't see or hear her, after surviving the sickness it left her blind and deaf. Helen
starts growing up and Kate and Captain Keller, her father, argue over what to do with her. They've hired doctors to try and help her, but it was no
use. Keller wanted to give up but Kate didn't want to give up on her daughter, so they both agree on giving Annie Sullivan a try. Annie has a talk
with Anagos about going to teach Helen, and she gets on the train to go to Helen. Before she goes to the train, it shows her having a vision of her
brother Jimmie, he died while they were being separated from each other at an orphanage. Annie ends up getting to Helen, and she's excited and wants
to teach her everything. Anne tries teaching her what the cake is and what the doll is. Instead Helen ends up tricking her, she grabs the doll and
swings it Annie hitting her face. Helen then leaves with the key and locks the door with Annie inside. Keller ends up getting her out of the room,
through the window. Later, Annie and Helen are alone in the yard, Helen thinks she's alone so she takes the key out of her mouth and throws it in the

The Miracle Worker: Similarities Between Play And Movie
"The Miracle Worker", A play created by William Gibson in 1957 is a play about a young girl, Helen Keller, who is blind and deaf. She is trying to
figure out how to communicate with others. The Kellers find a teacher for their child. Annie Sullivan, Helen's teacher helps her unlock language. "The
Miracle Worker", a movie also about Helen Keller was directed by Arthur Penn in 1962, starring Anne Bancroft andPatty Duke. The play and movie
have similarities and differences along with advantages and disadvantages of each medium.
The Miracle Workermovie and the play were similar in some ways. In both dramas, Kate Keller and Annie Sullivan know that Helen has a desire to
learn. Helen is trying to figure out how the others talk. She places her hands on Kate, and Captain Keller's mouth and feels them move. Helen also came
up with many symbols and her family could understand her. Annie knew Helen yearned to learn even when she had just started finger spelling. Another
similarity between the play and movie is that Helen and Annie had many fights. Throughout the movie, Annie and Helen fought over things like
manners and learning. Helen fought with Annie and then locked her in the bedroom. They fought in the dining room over table manners and how to
eat properly. It took much courage and hard work to teach Helen. Throughout these two manuscripts, Helen and Annie... Show more content on

Kate and James leaving to greet Annie meanwhile at the Keller home, Captain Keller, Helen, and the servants prepared for Annie's arrival. In the movie
this scene was never there and Kate and James went to greet Annie at the train

Similarities And Differences Between Lord Of The Flies And...
Though 1954's Lord of The Flies and 1956's The Bad Seed seem like separate entities with their own differing interpretations of morals and ethics,
upon closer analysis they may be more related than we realized. So the question begs to be asked: Just how similar are they? Do their differences make
them separate or do the differences inadvertently drive the two together? First off, they both concentrate on vulgarity in humans, whether carried out by
genetics and human character like the murderous Shirley Temple of sorts, Rhoda Penmark, inThe Bad Seed, or the environment in which the individual
inhabits like the British schoolboys struggling to coexist after their plane crashed on a remote island in Lord of the Flies. Additionally, they both
were published in the same time frame, only two years apart. So it can be assumed that popular culture and the complications of that exact generation
could be present in both such as the Cold War or the Postwar Boom which distinctly demonstrated the true brutality that prevails in mankind.
However, the setting, characters, and basic plot are altogether different both in literal structure and in a philosophical and domestic quality, one
grappling with a conflict of endurance and its close ties with savagery, while the other focuses on a 'murder mystery' type conflict with a sickening
twist and subtle film noir tropes. So obviously these two works of art can be seen as analogous. But how far do the connections go? The Bad Seed, the

Stockholm Syndrome : A Psychological Phenomenon
Stockholm Syndrome, originally identified in 1973, is an often cited psychological condition that may pertain to some people who have been
kidnapped. Dictionary.com defines Stockholm Syndrome as "feelings of trust or affection felt in certain cases of kidnapping or hostage–taking by a
victim toward a captor". As a result, victims sympathize and defend their abuser or kidnapper.Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon that
has been analyzed in professional articles by various scholars, but is it real? High–profile cases are reported by the media, although the diagnosis is not
described in any international classification system, including the DSM 5, the bible of psychiatric disorders. Is the Stockholm syndrome a real
psychological phenomenon, or is it just an expression used by the media, a label that can be put onto every abduction case where the victim could have
escaped but didn 't?
The Stockholm Syndrome gets its name from an incident that occurred in 1973 in Stockholm, Sweden. From August 23 through 28, 1973, bank
robbers held four hostages until the police ended the incident using tear gas. The interactions and subsequent bonding between the hostage–taker and
hostages during and after the incident sparked research into the phenomenon of the Stockholm Syndrome. "On the morning of Thursday 23 August

Cosmopolitan Magazine Household
Cosmopolitan magazine is a common household name in today's day and age. The magazine boasts catchy headlines, celebrities featured on their
covers, and covering a multitude of subjects relating to the lifestyle of modern women. However, because of this reputation, many of the editorial's
readers "don't realize that the magazine has undergone many incarnations before its current one, including family literary magazine and muckraking
investigative journal" (Landers). Schlicht & Field began publishing Cosmopolitan in 1886, as a "first class family magazine". An entire department
was devoted to the interests of women, of which included cooking, fashion, dГ©cor, and the caring and management of children. After Schlicht &
Field went out of business, just two years later in 1888, E. D Walker, a former Harper's Monthly employee, became the new editor. He increased
circulation with the addition of color illustrations, serial fiction, and book reviews (Simkin). William Randolph Hearst purchased Cosmopolitan
magazine in 1905, and the magazine changed forever. Hearst seeked to use the magazine as a "purveyor of exposГ© journalism to aid his personal
political pursuits", but when he abandoned his political ambitions he returned Cosmopolitan back to a fiction periodical in the 1920s (Landers).
Well–known writers such as Theodore Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis, and William Somerset Maugham contributed to the magazine, only increasing the
editorial's popularity. Hearst' approach gained

could be used by men and women. The main function of the pool and the baths was for recreation and socializing. Hearst's pool was not used for
bathing.
The Roman Pool is decorated from ceiling to floor with 1" square mosaic tiles. These glass tiles, called smalti, are either colored (mainly blue or
orange) or are clear with fused gold inside. The intense colors and shimmering gold of the tiles combine to create a breathtaking effect. The designs
created by the tiles were developed by muralist Camille Solon. The inspiration for some of these designs came from the 5 C. Mausoleum of Galla
Placidia (Kastner, p. I–261.)
Galla Placidia was the daughter of Roman emperor Theodosius. She built a cruciform oratory for her own mausoleum where she was to lie between her
brother Honorius and her son Valentinian. This monument to her is located in Ravenna, Italy (Hutton, p. 203.)
Hearst was affected by the beauty of the mosaics in the mausoleum and incorporated similar styles into his Roman Pool. The walls of the mausoleum
are marble but the vaulted arches are composed of blue and gold smalti. The roofs and dome are covered with mosaics of night blue, powdered with
stars (Hutton, p. 204.) The Roman Pool is similar to the mausoleum with its blue and gold color scheme and stylized star

Magazines have implicitly and explicitly been influencing humans for decades. They are continually more involved in the media, however the market

presenting these laborious techniques as strictly adhering to a biological pre–determined set of natural and ultimately unchangeable rules of gender"
(Hasinoff, 280, 2009). Additionally, its' sociobiological discourses insist on a self–help rhetoric that encourages women to solve their own problems
but at the same time stresses the fact that Cosmopolitan can tell them how (Hasinoff, 280, 2009).
Few researchers have explored sexuality in advertising across multiple countries or the factors that may contribute to its' content. Michelle Nelson and

Roots Of Optimism
From your first breath to your first word, you are taught something everyday. Maybe from your mom, or your dad. Your first smile or clap, optimism
comes from that. You learn that smiling makes everyone else smile, so you do it. You learn that your parents want you to to clap, so they will laugh.
They taught you at a young age to do positive things. You grow up and take those things with you wherever you go. You see, your root ofoptimism
comes from the simplest things you don't even realize. My root of optimism comes from many things. One of which, is all of the things around me.
The media, Life lessons, and different perspectives are the roots of my optimsm. I believe that the roots of my optimism have made me who i am
today, Some people think the media is true, and some people think different. It all depends on the person. In my opinion there are true and false

teenagers have a possibility of being pulled in due to wanting to be like the people they idolize. We such a big following on its own though, this

statement in itself just isn't true. This message can take a toll and make young and older women think they are not good enough. On top of the fact
that some of the advice given is just ridicoulous. I read through some articles and laughed a little. Some of the so called "tips" are just so unrealistic. It

The crime began by weeks before planning how it would go down. In the Trial Transcript Excerpts in the Patty Hearst Trial found by Douglas
Linder it describes Patty's situation before the crime. While being in a closet for a period of time, Patricia was taken out and was told of plans to
rob a bank. She was "instructed by them that she must accompany them to the bank; that she must allow herself to be photographed by the bank
camera, and in addition, that she must announce her name aloud so that everyone would know she was participating in the holdup. " After a few
days of being told of the plans, they drove to the crime scene and she was given a gun and told to stand in the central area of the bank counter.
(Linder, Trial Transcript Excerpts in the Patty Hearst Trial) Next, they took their plan and went to Hibernia bank to where it all went down.

Essay On Helen Keller

  • 1. Essay On Helen Keller Helen Keller House and Museum at Ivy Green When I heard about this assignment I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I heard about a special lady who was born in Tuscumbia Alabama. The special lady I was referring too was Helen Keller, I didn't really know much about her except for the fact that she was blind and deaf. I have also heard about the play and the movie "Miracle Worker" that was based off of her life. Little did I know I was in for a treat, learning about this magnificent woman's life and the influence she had on the deaf community. Helen Keller's early life started in Tuscumbia Alabama where she was born and raised. Helen home was located on 600 acres of land which was massive compared to what we have now. Her home was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time period when children contracted this disease most children died, but fortunately Helen survived. She did not come out of this unharmed she became blind and deaf. As a result Helen became a lot more of a problem child. Instead of sitting and eating with the rest of the family she would walk around the table and take food off of each of their plates. Also if Helen didn't receive what she wanted she would throw temper tantrums until she got her way. Once during one of her outburst she began to beat her hands so hard on the hardwood floor that her hands began to bleed. Helen later said during her time as a child she felt as if she was trapped in her own mind. Her parents had to do something, so they hired a teacher whose name was Anne Sullivan who was educated and graduated from the Perkins Institute at the age of twenty. This would be Anne's first job helping to educate Helen. Mr. Keller offered her thirty–five dollars a month to move from Boston to their home in Alabama to with Helen. For the first few weeks Anne just observed Helen during her everyday activities, but one day Helen decided to take a piece of sausage from Anne's plate just as times before, but Anne slapped her hand and putting her hand to her face and moving it from side to side saying "No"! This was a new concept to Helen because no one had ever told her no before. Because of this Helen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Differences Between The Miracle Worker Book And Movie Imagine living in a world without sound and everything is pitch black. Well, welcome to the amazing world of Helen Keller. Helen is a girl who grew up in Alabama who is blind, deaf, and mute. The astounding book The Miracle Worker by William Gibson captures her unbelievable story. The book that he wrote is in play form not original text, so there is a movie that comes with the novel. The Miracle Worker the movie was released in 2000. The film is directed by Nadia Tass, starring Alison Elliott as Annie Sullivan, who is Helen's teacher and helps her out of her world, and also stars Hallie Kate as the Helen Keller. Even though the book and the movie have many similarities, they are different in their own way. First of all, the book and the movie have all of the important parts of Helen Keller's story. For example, in the beginning after Annie meets Helen, Helen locks Annie in her room. This scene shows how Helen tries to get rid of Annie even though this trick doesn't work so easily against Annie. Another example, the next day Annie, Helen, and her family have breakfast. Another example, in the story Helen is pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her " killing" her brother. Even with these differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen ... • 3. The Pardoned Parent Essay The Pardoned Parent There is a new breed of parent walking among us. Whether we recognized it or not, we have all run into one of them at one time or another. Maybe it was the young mother in the grocery store who handed her screeching child the candy she had just finished telling him he could not have. Maybe it was the man who sat obliviously behind you on the airplane, while his little boy ran up and down the aisle, screaming at the top of his lungs. These are the pardoned parents. To pardon means to excuse, absolve, exonerate, condone, or justify. A pardon for a crime can be granted by a head of state, such as a monarch or a president. If a pardon is granted, it means the person is absolved of all wrong–doing and any punishment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people have faced disabilities of some type and overcome them. Helen Keller is one of the most famous examples of this. Helen was both deaf and blind. As a young child, her parents thought that her disabilities made her unteachable. Because they pitied her, they allowed her to do as she pleased. They set no boundaries for her in any area of her life until a young teacher, Annie Sullivan, who was visually impaired herself, came to teach Helen. Miss Sullivan taught not only Helen, but also Helen's family. Under her guidance, the family learned that Helen's disabilities did not necessarily mean that she could never function as a useful member of society. They learned to set boundaries for Helen and to expect more from her. As a result of the changes in the way Helen was raised after Miss Sullivan arrived, Helen grew up to become a world–famous speaker and author (The Miracle Worker). Just because an illness or condition has only recently been named does not mean that it did not exist before it was named. Asperger's Syndrome was not known as a disease until 1992, but this does not mean that it suddenly appeared on the planet at that time. It is widely believed that many successful people such as; William Henry Gates, Sir Alfred Hitchcock, SirIsaac Newton, Jane Austen, and Albert Einstein suffered from Asperger's Syndrome. Having this syndrome ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Helen Keller Analysis Helen Keller was born normal, however, shortly after being born she suffered an illness that caused her to be both blind and deaf. There is a movie about Helen's struggle called "The Miracle Worker". There is also a story by Helen Keller with called "The Day Language Came into My Life". Both the story and the movie, display how the miracles of language and learning allowed Helen to overcome many obstacles in her life. This essay's purpose is to perform a literary critique of both the movie and the excerpt about Helen Keller. Anne and Helen's characters, points of view, and situation show the constant struggle of the desire for more knowledge even though the odds are against her. The characters of Anne and Helen both offer different elements to this story. In the story and movie, Helen is portrayed as lost in her younger years. She does not know right from wrong; all she knows is happiness and anger. The movie shows a scene that involves Helen walking around taking food off of her family members plates. The family does nothing to stop Helen. They allow her to take whatever she wants so that they can continue in conversation. This is appalling to Helen's teacher, Anne Sullivan. When Helen tries to take something off of her plate she reacts and cannot believe the family allows this. This scene displays how Helen's life has been thus far. It shows that because of her condition, her family never made her mind any manners. This led to Helen knowing no difference between right and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Stockholm Syndrome Or Norrmalmstorg Syndrome Love can form in many different ways; maybe from first sight, childhood memories, recent times or kidnapping–wait what? As ridiculous as it sounds, falling in love for your captor or abuser has been an actual phenomenon that unfortunately exists in our world; Often called Stockholm Syndrome, Or Norrmalmstorg Syndrome , it is a psychological condition that makes the captive believe in an alliance with their captor. On August 23, 1973 in Stockholm, Sweden 4 bank workers were taken in hostage by Jan–Erik Olsson for a 6 day stand–off with the police at the Kreditbaken until the workers were finally released; Jan–Erik was immediately put under arrest after surrendering. However, once the captives were freed, they showed shocking behavior of showing sympathy and made positive relationships with Jan–Erik; this baffled people when the captives started acting like this considering the fact that Olsson and his accomplice Clark Olofsson tortured them with nooses and dynamite sticks and threatened to kill them many times during those 131 hours. Gaining the name thanks to Nils Bejerot, a criminologist and psychiatrist, after he analyzed the victims' brains. A year later in 1974 came another case of the syndrome; Patty Hearst, the granddaughter and heiress of William Randolph Hearst, was held captive by the Symbionese Liberation Army and brainwashed into accepting their ideas. In April she was caught robbing a bank in San Francisco via CCTV and was sentenced to 7 years of prison in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The obedient must be slaves." ― Henry David Thoreau In the early 1960's Stanley Milgram (1963) performed an experiment titled Behavioral Study of Obedience to measure compliance levels of test subjects prompted to administer punishment to learners. The subjects observed the learner/accomplice being prepared with electrodes strapped in a chair. The teacher/subjects read a series of word–pairs to the learner then read the first word of the pair along with four terms. The learner's role was to pair the first word with the correct term (Milgram, 1963). The learner would then press one of four switches attached to an electrical shock generator indicating his response. Unknown to the teacher, "in all conditions the learner gives a predetermined set of responses to the word pair test, based on the schedule of approximately three wrong answers to one correct answer" (Milgram, 1963). To authenticate the potential electrical intensity to the learner the teacher is sampled with a 45–volt shock to the wrist. The teacher is then instructed to administer an incrementally increasing punishing electrical shock for each incorrect answer. This follows several methods to inform the teacher of the potential impact of the electrical shock that they will administer. • 8. Patty Hearst Case Study The Radical Case of Patty Hearst Patricia Hearst was abducted from her apartment in Berkley, California, when she was just 19 years old (Orth). Her abductors were a radical terrorist group, and their ultimate goal was to take somebody of status and hold them hostage as leverage for what they wanted. Patty was the daughter of William Randolph Hearst and Catherine Campbell, both of whom were wealthy and had a large image in the newspaper industry (Patty Hearst Outlaws). It was not long after that Patty was caught committing crimes with the SLA members. The most notorious crime was the robbery of the Hibernia Bank in San Francisco, where Patty was caught on camera walking into the bank with a massive assault rifle. • 9. A Report On Stockholm Syndrome Abstract According to the United States Department of Justice reports, each year nearly 800,000 children are claimed to be missing. This shows that each day, over 2,000 children are reported missing. Kidnappings occur for a variety of reasons, and at the hands of many different people ("Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section", n.d.). For example, the United States Department of Justice claims that 203,000 children are kidnapped by family members annually, while 58,200 are abducted by individuals outside of the family annually ("Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section", n.d.). Kidnappings occur more frequently than the public realizes. The physical and psychological affects being kidnapped has on the victim varies for each individual. One reaction to hostile kidnappings or hostage situations is the development of Stockholm syndrome. According to the FBI law enforcement bulletin, Understanding Stockholm Syndrome by De Fabrique, Romano, Vecchi, and Van Hasselt (2007), nearly 27% of kidnapping victims display signs of Stockholm syndrome. Kidnapping Victims and Stockholm Syndrome What is Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the victim identifies with their captor (Namnyak, Tufton, Szekely, Toal, Worboys, & Sampson, 2008). This may be apparent through sympathy, positive feelings toward their captor, and some even defend their kidnapper (Namnyak, et. al., 2008). The toad forces the father to give him one of his daughter so the youngest daughter becomes his hostage and succumbs to the disgusting toad's wishes and marries him. An example of the female lead displaying her positive feelings for the toad is when the toad leaves her and she continues pursuing him despite the toad becoming abusive and punching her in the face (Luzel 228). Namyak et al. a group of researchers from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in London state "this bond develops as part of the victim's defense mechanism to allow them to sympathize with their captor, leading to an acceptance of the situation, limiting deп¬ЃanceвЃ„aggression toward the captor and thus maintaining survival in an otherwise potentially high–risk scenario" (4–5). Explain its relationship to the long, dialogue–free section of this act during which Annie and Helen struggle against one another. Answer: This was symbolic because all the other characters wanted Annie to stop and just let Helen get what she wanted but Annie was persistent. This was I think one of the best parts in the book just because of how persistent Annie is. After the long battle between the two Annie had gotten Helen to eat her own food off of a plate and also fold her own napkin. All the characters were also thinking about sending Annie home until after this when Helen ran outside a complete mess and reached for her mother like she was a savior, and then found out that Annie had gotten Helen to eat her own food off of a plate and also fold her own napkin. So the question begs to be asked: Just how similar are they? Do their differences make them separate or do the differences inadvertently drive the two together? First off, they both concentrate on vulgarity in humans, whether carried out by genetics and human character like the murderous Shirley Temple of sorts, Rhoda Penmark, inThe Bad Seed, or the environment in which the individual inhabits like the British schoolboys struggling to coexist after their plane crashed on a remote island in Lord of the Flies. • 31. Cosmopolitan Magazine Household Cosmopolitan magazine is a common household name in today's day and age. The magazine boasts catchy headlines, celebrities featured on their covers, and covering a multitude of subjects relating to the lifestyle of modern women. However, because of this reputation, many of the editorial's readers "don't realize that the magazine has undergone many incarnations before its current one, including family literary magazine and muckraking investigative journal" (Landers). Schlicht & Field began publishing Cosmopolitan in 1886, as a "first class family magazine". An entire department was devoted to the interests of women, of which included cooking, fashion, dГ©cor, and the caring and management of children. After Schlicht & Field went out of business, just two years later in 1888, E. D Walker, a former Harper's Monthly employee, became the new editor. He increased circulation with the addition of color illustrations, serial fiction, and book reviews (Simkin). William Randolph Hearst purchased Cosmopolitan magazine in 1905, and the magazine changed forever. Hearst seeked to use the magazine as a "purveyor of exposГ© journalism to aid his personal political pursuits", but when he abandoned his political ambitions he returned Cosmopolitan back to a fiction periodical in the 1920s (Landers). Well–known writers such as Theodore Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis, and William Somerset Maugham contributed to the magazine, only increasing the editorial's popularity. Hearst' approach gained ... These glass tiles, called smalti, are either colored (mainly blue or orange) or are clear with fused gold inside. The intense colors and shimmering gold of the tiles combine to create a breathtaking effect. The designs created by the tiles were developed by muralist Camille Solon. The inspiration for some of these designs came from the 5 C. Mausoleum of Galla Placidia (Kastner, p. I–261.) Galla Placidia was the daughter of Roman emperor Theodosius. She built a cruciform oratory for her own mausoleum where she was to lie between her brother Honorius and her son Valentinian. This monument to her is located in Ravenna, Italy (Hutton, p. 203.) Hearst was affected by the beauty of the mosaics in the mausoleum and incorporated similar styles into his Roman Pool. The walls of the mausoleum are marble but the vaulted arches are composed of blue and gold smalti. The roofs and dome are covered with mosaics of night blue, powdered with stars (Hutton, p. 204.) The Roman Pool is similar to the mausoleum with its blue and gold color scheme and stylized star
