Baptist Church Experience Paper
In my experience at first progressive Baptist Church I was very much out of my comfort zone because not only did I not feel as welcomed but it was a
little awkward because of all the looks I was receiving. I felt I was not dressed as they were and felt as if I didn't fit in and right away I just didn't feel
appropriate with my attire. While I was there I actually had people wanting to shake hands and asking me questions about me coming and there was
one man who just stared at me and so it was uncomfortable and didn't know how to react. While I was there I started to notice that there is a little
difference from the church I go to and the music was way different as well, everyone will talk back with amen or thank you Jesus. The difference ...

I think the service was a very good eye opener because I'm the type of person to try new things and like to experience other cultures and as well as
religion. I think it's a big deal knowing that I went to this service with shyness but also facing my fears because at the end of the day I know I tried
something new even when I hesitated to go in the church by myself. Not only did I feel like I was getting looks I thought I was actually gonna get
told to leave just because he color of my skin and I don't know why I thought that but it was just a feeling I had since I had never been to a African
American church before especially a baptist church. During the service I was actually feeling the energy that was going on in the room and it made
me just want to shout like everybody else but I felt like it was my primary church in a strange way but I really enjoyed every minute of it regardless
of what I thought at first when I walked in. After the service was done we had a prayer and he went to people who wanted to be prayed for and it was

Reflection Paper On The Tazaie Prayer
TaizГ© Prayer
At the TaizГ© prayer, the area with the altar and candles was inviting. First the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long
pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross in the center was about to begin when a person placed the
cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross
continued, but this time the cross was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross at the table and placed their heads on it or kissed the
cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the final prayer was said followed by a song as the closing. From this opportunity of praying in
a group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative music.
The TaizГ© prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together. This was my first time in a TaizГ© prayer, I
have never heard about it before this class. The TaizГ© prayer is a different way from how I am used to communicating with God. The prayer is
centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by
kneeling in front or kissing the statue. The prayer relates to Kay Lindahl's contemplative listening or listening in silence to God in Practicing the Sacred

My Original Understanding Of The Discipline Before The Course
Introduction To be detached from the hustle and noise of our lives, yet find peace within ourselves while we inhabit this world. Perhaps the most
surprising yet fulfilling spiritual discipline I have learnt this year, whilst partaking in this course is that of finding the time to sit silently of all
distractions in solitude and focus only on God. Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started Prior to this
course and even prior to becoming a Christian seven years ago, I would use solitude as a form of escaping from where I didn't want to be in life.
Especially as a child and teenager living in an environment of verbal abuse and violence whist watching the effects of an alcoholic parent slowly
destroy my respect for who they were. Solitude and silence was my revenge and in someway my shelter. I believe this solitude prior to my
Christianity was a tool I used to make me "harder". It allowed me to shut off emotions, empathy towards those I resented and survive in that world. In
hindsight, Solitude back then in my life, probably made me more non– Christian. A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this
discipline Dr Van Shore lecturer of Alpacrucis College, states: David the King and Poet who wrote Psalm 23, could not have savoured and tasted the
love of God as he describes this, without solitude. David calls his listeners to be still and hear God despite the turmoil of the battles they were enduring
at the time.

The Importance Of The Jesus Prayer?
Buddy's importance in telling the story is to give the reader a different perspective. To Franny and Zooey's biased way of seeing Franny's reasons in
following the Jesus prayer. Based on a reliable outsider's perspective, Franny thinks the Jesus prayer will help her keeping calm and will give her a
piece of Seymour. However, Zooey thinks Franny is only using the Jesus prayer to not have to deal with her problems. Zooey also thinks that if Franny
is using the Jesus prayer she should really learn to understand it and do it for herself. Zooey's biased way of seeing Franny's reasons of using the
Jesus prayer can be compared to a quote from "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna" "sir we ought to teach the people that they are doing wrong in
worshipping the images and pictures in the temple.that's the way with you calcutta people you want to teach and preach you want to give millions
when you are beggars yourselves...Do you think god does not know that he is being worshipped in the image? If a worshipper should make a
mistake,do you think god will know his intent?"(Salinger). Meaning that god will know her intentions when praying, and will know she's not praying
for her but because she feels like she must do it in order to go on with her life and feel Seymor close.Zooey also suggests that if Franny is "going to
say the Jesus prayer, she should at least say it to Jesus. And not to St.Francis and Seymour"(Salinger). Not only that but he suspects Franny's "using the

7 Prayers Of Jesus Research Paper
What do you learn by reading several of the twenty–seven prayers of Jesus?
There is a lot to be learned when reading Jesus prayers. It's also worthy to note as a reader I don't just look at the verse that was the prayer, bur also
look before and after. I find reading the context the prayer was developed around is very important. I will start off my reviewing several prayers I
have chosen from the list and give you what I learned and in the end summarize my thoughts.
Starting with Hebrews 2:12, Jesus prays to the Lord and states that he will proclaim his name to the community. He states, "'in the midst of
congregation I will praise you'". That line really stands out to me and makes me think, why does Jesus the Son of God pray to himself? ... Show more

There are many different genres in the Bible. More so there are tons of prayer going in the Bible that fit into different genres. Looking at different
literary literary devices that encompasses genre we can begin to see how prayer really is a genre and what distinguishes it as such.
Jesus tells us how to pray. [Matthew 6:9–13] This is an example of technique which fits into what makes prayer a genre. Jesus was showing how
prayer should be done specifically. There is also different historical time frames in regards to prayer. Looking at how Abraham prayed in Genesis 18
to how Jonah prayed in Jonah 2 you can see a major difference in the times.
Looking at Jonah 2, you can see that Jonah's prayer to God is a Psalm. Jonah uses metaphors throughout this prayer. Going back to Abraham's prayer
he is speaking with no metaphors or figurative language to God. This is very important because the differences is what makes prayer have different
genres.
Different tones in prayer are heard as well, from when Jesus was begging God to not to kill him on the cross [Matthew 26:39] to Jesus in a much
joyful tone as he rejoices. [Luke 10:21] Not only tone sets a genre but so does the content of the prayer which changes from character to character in
the Bible. These are just a few examples of what distinguishes prayer as a

Greg In Scripture
Greg then launches into the topic of prayer, he says, "The Pharisees were caught up in repeating ritualized prayers over and over again. They seemed
to believe that the longer the prayer, the more spiritual and pleasing to God. But God isn't interested in eloquence. Not at all. Prayer should come from
the heart. He isn't interested in how perfectly our prayers sound, or whether they rhyme, or whether we throw in any King James English, or how long
they are. He is concerned with how genuine they are. One of the most eloquent prayers in Scripture comes from a man who said,'God, be merciful to me
a sinner!' (Luke 18:13). Now that is an effective prayer. That is a man who was honest with God. He said what he was thinking and simply laid it out
before the Lord. And guess what? Jesus Himself said that man's prayer was heard." Greg then goes on to use the Lord's prayer as a guide to show us
how to pray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He ends his book with a chapter on knowing God, in a one on one relationship. Finally Greg closes with a section on salvation. And what better a way
to close a book on discipleship then with salvation?
Now lets get down to my opinion on the class. I must say I have been surprised by what passes as a class on spiritual formation and transformation.
Which is not to say that I don't agree with some things about the class, but all in all I'm very disappointed. When we first started this class I had had
hopes that it was going to be refreshing and full of sound ideas. By week 4 or 5 I had abandoned all hope of

Essay on Franny and Zooey and Holden Caufield
Holden as a Foil ti Zooey Although they are the protagonists from two separate books, Franny Glass, a teenage girl in J.D. Salinger's Franny and
Zooey, and Holden Caufield, a young man in Salinger's novel Catcher in the Rye, serve as foils to each other. Both suffer unnecessarily due to their
interaction with those whom they are close to, due to their relationships with themselves, as well as due to their views on the world. In the end,
however Franny and Holden change their values and therefore are able to begin the healing process.
Throughout Franny and Zooey, Franny perceives humans to be inherently evil. As a result, she constantly feels frustrated with the egotism and
self–centeredness of the world. One of Franny's major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason, she often recites "the Jesus prayer." Like the prayer's namesake, Franny experiences guilt for anyone who is not completely righteous.
Holden too feels responsible for the prevention of corruptness. His fantasy is to stand in a field and prevent children from falling off the edge, thus
saving them from society's imperfections. In addition, a major theme common to both books is the relationship of the protagonist to a sibling, and the
healing that ensues as a result. For Franny, this healing comes about through her older brother, Zooey. In his efforts to help his sister, Zooey points out
the flaws in Franny's prayers. He shows that by becoming obsessed, Franny is acting as self–centered as the people against which she battles. For
Holden, on the other hand, it is the innocence of Pheobe, contrary to the scornfulness of Zooey, which persuades Holden that there is in fact a balance
between untainted aspects of society as well as less than perfect ones. In this way, Pheobe succeeds in changing Holden's outlook. Rather than focusing
solely on the negative facets of a situation, Holden learns to take all parts into account, and not to become discouraged.
Lastly, Franny and Holden can be compared and contrasted through their inner thoughts. Franny often finds herself feeling remorseful for her personal
trivial harms, such as when she asks her boyfriend for the olive in his martini. When she realizes that "she

Religion Vs Religion
Prayer, a way of communicating with religious figures, in some form is a universal ritual practiced by almost every religion all over the world.
According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, a ritual is a set of actions or words preformed in a regular way. Different from tradition, rituals can be
practiced or completely random as long as it is repeated or done in particular way. There are some traditions that can be argued as rituals and vise
versa. The main difference between tradition and ritual is that tradition is passed down from generation to generation and has been established over a
long period of time. Most rituals often have a religious aspect to them. Religious rituals have been integrated in Western culture, specifically Christian
religion. I can say that my ritual is praying every night before I go to sleep and to finish the prayer with the "Lord's Prayer". A religious ritual has the

For example, adult Muslims practice prayer five times a day. As a Christian, it is more flexible. I perform at least once a day. Specifically, I pray
right before I go to sleep. There are certain steps I do in each prayer that has become second nature. I start by asking God to watch over my loved
ones, and then follow with asking God for help and guidance over stresses in my life as well as thanking Him for living another day, and I finish
with repeating the "Lord's Prayer", a Christian prayer that was taught by Jesus to his disciples. I do this because if I didn't, I would feel that the prayer
was incomplete. The "Lord's Prayer" is an important element because the set of words gives me a connection with the beginning teachings of
Christianity due to the fact that Jesus once spoke those words. Personal prayer is where I find intimacy with God and how I integrate my religion on a
day–to–day basis. Nightly prayer marks the end of a day being alive and breathing; for that reason alone, I give

Prayer Beads In Religion
Prayer beads have a important role in the history of believers as they seek to deepen their connection to God. Prayer beads, according to a study in
1987, are a tool for prayer used by five major religions; Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Christianity (Wernik, 361)(Television 430). Not only
are prayer beads used in religion but there is also a branch of secular prayer beads, called worry beads; which are used as a stress management tool
(Wernik, 362). The book, A Bead and a Prayer, is an excellent resource in learning the basic premise and theories associated with praying with Prayer
beads. The book explores four integral questions regarding the use of Prayer Beads; Why use prayer beads? Why prayer beads for Protestants? How to

Numerous Protestant assume that prayer beads are a solely Catholic ritual, one that is not for them (40). It is easy to forget that both Catholic and
Protestants share a common history, thus the use of beads or tangible elements. In their quest to prayer without ceasing, early desert dwellers
commenced praying the entire psalter daily (43). As the monks began to memorize the psalms, they required a system to count; a bowl or pocket
with pebbles or stones (43). Since this method is not the most portable, prayer ropes were created around the fourth century. In the middle ages,
the daily office, become the new way to pray without ceasing (43). As the daily office was primarily reserved for monastic communities, lay
people were encouraged to say the Lord's Prayer one hundred and fifty times; the tool for counting this become the rosary or as it was once called
the poor man's psalter (44). While Martin Luther warned against the idle use of empty prayer, it is possible that he did not disagree with the use of
beads in prayer (44). Luther modified the Hail Mary prayer so that it contained only biblical text (46). Since habits are hard to break, the use of the
Hail Mary, the rosary fell out of use among Protestants. In Old English, the word bed means prayer

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
According to Jacques Ranciere, Emma's death was a verdict made by Gustave Flaubert because she was unable to distinguish the practical–mindedness
and sentimentality of art, which was the lifestyle she had chosen to live. "Art means distinction to her, it means a certain lifestyle. Art has to permeate
all the aspects of existence" (Ranciere 238–239). Emma had sought after the church and religion throughout this novel in seeking spiritual
enlightenment. However, the self–integration of religious art and literature in Emma's life had caused her to condone the benefits she could have
received of religion and of the church. "With a mind that was practical in pursuit of its enthusiasms, that had loved the church for its flowers, music for
the words of its sentimental songs, and literature for its power to stir the emotions, she rebelled against the mysteries of faith" (Flaubert 36). Emma was
unable to discern that her sentimental view on religious arts substituted her spirituality; the inability to separately define the two elements resulted in
her downfall and death.
From the start of Emma's stay at the convent, she was wooed by the atmosphere of the church – which she found sentimental – and thus began to walk
the path to her own death. "Instead of following the mass, she would study...the pious illustrations with their sky–blue borders, and she loved the sick
lamb, the Scared Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor Jesus, stumbling under the burden of his cross" (Flaubert 33).

Prayer Is The Most Essential Of Spiritual Growth
One of the most difficult questions a Christian is often asked is where they are in their spiritual journey. Celebration of Discipline helps us understand
the important aspects that help deepen our faith. Foster writes that there are three categories of disciplines me must learn: inward, outward, and
corporate. Each category has four subcategories. I believe that prayer, service, and worship are the most essential in spiritual growth. The first category
Foster writes about is inward discipline. Inward discipline is an act that other believes cannot measure. Inward disciplines are personal to your
relationship with God. The four types of inward disciplines are meditation, prayer, fasting, and study. Although they are all important, I think that
prayer is the most beneficial. The discipline of prayer brings us into the deepest work of the human spirit (Page 33). Prayer is the key to God
transforming us. As we learn to pray, we learn that our will eventually molds to His will. I have been hearing a lot of messages lately about the Lord's
Prayer. When we say "Thy will be done" we are not asking God to give us what we want, we are asking God to transform what we want to become
what He wants. Prayer is something that we should center our daily lives around. When we begin to prayer God meets us where we are, no matter
how far along we are in our journey. God uses prayer to push us deeper into who He is. Sometimes prayer can be frustrating because we do not feel
like our prayers

Judaism, Christianity, And Islam
Some people may think that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three completely different religions. But if you take a better look into these
religions, you begin to see that altogether, they are simply three different variations of one story. Let 's start with how and where these different but
similar religions worship. Muslims worship in Mosques, with separated areas for men and women. Based off of the class trip to the ICC mosque in
Des Plaines, a worship takes around 15–20 minutes and is said mostly in Arabic. The prayer service at the mosque seems to be the most organized, yet
it is also the most laid back. When people come in, they are aware of what they have to do and how they are expected to act. If people come in late,
they do not distract anyone else, and quietly go to the back of the mosque. Although the mosque is an option for prayer, Muslims can pray outside of a
Mosque as well, as long as they are facing Mecca. In terms of worship technicalities, Judaism is a little bit different, as they don 't separate men and
women. Additionally, they pray in a something similar to a Mosque, a Synagogue. Although they don 't face Mecca like the Muslims do, they face the
Ark. At the JBBG synagogue that was visited, all of the pews are facing the altar and the Ark. In one of the smaller study rooms in the building, all of
the chairs are facing the smaller Ark that is in the room. During a worship, the Torah is spoken in Hebrew, but almost everything else is spoken in

J.D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey
J. D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey is about a twenty–year–old college student named Franny, who is seeking spirituality in her life. She is a member of
the intelligent Glass family, whose children struggle with conforming to society after appearing on the television quiz show called It's a Wise Child.
Salinger's novel is composed of two sections. The first section, Franny, deals with Franny explaining to her boyfriend her distaste for the college
environment. In the second section, Zooey, Franny discusses with her brother Zooey about feeling isolated from the people around her and finding
spirituality in her life. In Franny and Zooey by J. D. Salinger, the main protagonist, Franny, undergoes a change in perspective as she tries to cope with
her dissatisfaction with the world through her spiritual beliefs. In the beginning, Franny is experiencing a deterioration in mental health due to her
severe judgemental attitude and harsh criticism of her college experience; with little thought, she turns to prayer in an attempt to resolve her
difficulties, but her problems grow worse due to her lack of understanding of religion. Eventually, she comes to a greater understanding of her
relationship with others as she realizes the genuine meaning of her spiritual beliefs through listening to Zooey's consoling advice. In the first section of
the novel, Franny is having a nervous breakdown as a result of her growing isolation and her misgivings towards college. At a restaurant with her

Should There Be Allowed To Prayer In School
People who are Christians and like to spread the word of God don't like that they can't spread God at school. Everyone has the right to pray and spread
the word of god in our school it even says so in the first amendment(NCAC). But for some reason it is unconstitutional. People at my school think it's a
good idea to be able to pray. They feel we need to be able to spread the word of God.
In the First amendment, it states that we have the freedom of religion. For some reason the courthouse come to the conclusion that prayer in schools is
unconstitutional. There are people at schools who feel the same way and just want to be able to pray out loud and for others. Our school should be
able to aloud, God and Jesus. Some people really need Jesus

Franney And Zooey Fanny Glass Analysis
In J.D. Salinger's' Franny and Zooey Franny Glass ,the youngest of many kids, starts to have a break down. She comes home to her mom Bessie and
her brother Zooey. Bessie wants Zooey to talk to Franny about what is wrong. He doesn't really want to at first, but he comes around to it. She tries to
ignore him to get him to go away, but he won't. He talks to her about why he thinks she should stop saying their Jesus prayer, something that has helped
Franny through a lot. He makes her cry. And walks away to a secret phone that only calls other phones in that house, and pretends to be Buddy, the
oldest living brother.
Franny answers the phone and starts talking to who she thinks is Buddy, but is really Zooey. Zooey is acting as Buddy because Franny said she wanted
to talk to Seymour, the oldest Glass brother that committed suicide. He thinks that Buddy is the next best thing, but Franny just wants Seymour. When
she answers he says "Hello, sweetheart. How are you––are you alright?" (187) i think that is something Buddy would say, because he really cares
about Franny, so Zooey is trying to act like him as much as he can. When he makes her cry, he tries to keep talking to her but she ignores him.
Zooey says " I'm sorry Franny. I'm very sorry." (172). But when he says that, it only makes her cry even harder. He tries to make her feel better by
asking her if she wants to talk to Buddy. She says she doesn't but talks to him, but she's actually talking to Zooey. He says he's sorry

The Theme Of Childhood In The NovelFranny And Zooey
Though not much is known about J.D. Salinger's childhood or family, a plethora of his works include overall themes of family and how different
aspects of childhood can affect someone in the future (Wenke). In his novel, Franny and Zooey, this theme is an important part of the story
(French). The story begins with Franny Glass' story, told in third person by an unknown narrator. She's taking a weekend off from college to meet
her boyfriend, Lane Coutell, to eat lunch and spend the weekend with him for his college's football weekend. At lunch, Franny has a mental
breakdown and tells Lane about how she hates all of the fake people she encounters. She meets many poets and they all write about what will interest
people and not about what they actually feel. She finds beauty in the things that actually have important value to people rather than something that
means nothing. Lane also questions her on the little green book she always carries around. She avoids the question until she can't and explains she
got it in her college library, which she is obviously lying about. She proceeds to go to the bathroom and pass out. When she wakes up, Lane can tell
something is wrong, but he no longer questions her. Then it switches to Zooey's story. It is narrated by the second eldest Glass sibling, Buddy Glass.
Zooey and his mother, Bessie, are struggling to get along. She continuously questions him, and she babies Franny and only speaks of Seymour, his
brother who committed suicide, and

Religion In Life Of Pi
In the novel Life of Pi, Pi Patel is a young boy who lives to tell a story "to make you believe in god" (Martel 19). Pi believes in three faiths
throughout his life and the novel, Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. He finds a common spirit behind each of these religions and they come together
to guide Pi through his journey and his life. Pi is faced with the challenge of staying alive on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger for months on end. He uses
his faith and religion to guide him and keep him alive as well as carrying this belief to his adulthood.
Pi is born as a Hindu, and it is the first of the three religions he comes to know and practice throughout his life. When Pi was a child, his mother and
aunt took him to a Hindu temple for the first time. Pi did not really remember it, as he was so young, but "something of the sultriness and mystery of
the place must have stayed with [him]" (Martel 99). Pi's first religious experience was all sensory, but left and profound impact on him and gave him
his passion for religion. It brought foundation to his life and led him to other religious imagination in Islam and Christianity later in the novel. Pi
becomes very passionate about Hinduism and the Hindu gods. He relates these gods to himself saying that Brahman is "no different from atman, the
spiritual force within us, what you might call the soul" (Martel 101). This representation of one of the Hindu gods and what he symbolizes is carried
out in Pi's actions on the life boat. He had

Analysis Of Franny And Zooey
The Glass Family, consisting of seven children and a mother and father, were all a part of a quizzing radio show known as "It's a Wise Child". These
seven children, all contributing to the show at some point of their childhood grew up having high expectations, and more often than not, being unable
to meet them. In Franny and Zooey, J. D. Salinger portrays how success and fame at a young age has lasting negative effects on children and their
families. The now grown kids and elderly parents both have issues associated with the drama of growing up popular. The family's relationship is
estranged due to the burden of stress exerted on the siblings. The children's lives are now dependent on the mentality that they need to perfect

The story begins with Franny meeting her boyfriend and going out to eat. Franny begins an argument and soon after "She cannot bring herself to
touch her own slight meal. Her forehead glistens, she turns pale, her hands shake" (Bode 67). Franny is trying to start on a new path for herself yet
she wrestles with ego and continual criticism of herself and others (Lundquist 1). Franny is later seen losing her composure in the bathroom, but after
shufflings through her bag, she finds a green book, holds it close, and calms down. The green book is later revealed to be a religious book about a
traveling man who recites the Jesus Prayer. Franny is rushed home after this meltdown and stays with her Mother and brother, Zooey. In one scene,
Franny tells Zooey "I want to talk to Seymour" (Salinger 151) although Seymour committed suicide many years before. Franny is having many
breakdowns, mentally, physically, and religiously. Franny's need to fit in but also be the best comes from a place of superiority from her earlier
years on "It's a Wise Child". The second part of the novel takes us through Zooey's life as a young twenty–five year old actor. He still lives with his
parents and has a crude personality. As described by his mother, "He's so bitter about things" (Salinger 189). Zooey continued with his childhood
career of fame to become an actor. "As an actor he has freed himself to play any roles he likes. It is his way of coping with the family's high

Religion Comparison For The Health Care Provider
Religion Comparison for the Health Care Provider
Health care providers are challenged with caring for patients and families from different religions, faiths and cultures. It is beneficial for a care
provider to have an understanding of different beliefs so that the care and treatment plans coincide with patient's religious faith. Creating individualized
plans of care to meet the spiritual needs of their patients is necessary for providing them holistic care. Research is presented on three religious faiths,
and their perspective will be compared to Christianity; helping nurses understand and recognize the diversity between different religions and faiths.

Prayer In Schools Has Been A Much Talked About Debate In
Prayer in schools has been a much talked about debate in America over the past half–century. Conservatives, trying to regulate the religious freedoms
of Americans , have tried numerous times to pass amendments that allow private student–led prayer in the classrooms(Baik, 243). Liberals, realizing
that private prayer is and has always been legal, try to keep the balance between church–state separation as it is. This has kept the political issue of
religion at a boil and confused many people on the actual issue of coercive school prayer. The banning of school praying is a major assurance of
individual freedom and must be cultivated.
The United States has long been divided on the issue of prayer in school. From the very beginning our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schempp , the Court ruled that there could be no teacher–led mandatory prayer in a public classroom. Later, in Engle v. Vitale, it expanded its ruling to
include devotionary Bible readings. It encouraged Bible readings, however, in comparative religion classes, and the study of how the Bible has affected
history and literature in each of these classes. State Supreme Courts have made a few rulings on the constitutionality of student–led prayer at voluntary
school events such as ballgames and graduation ceremonies, but there has been no national outline on what practices are legal and illegal. Also,
moments of silence are currently under debate, with the court ruling usually hinging on whether or not the moment is implemented to encourage
prayer(ACLU).
There are many practical reasons why people argue for the integration of prayer into the curriculum of public schools. The most commonly cited reason
for this is that children need the moral and ethical guidance that religion taught in the classroom will provide them. While almost everyone agrees that
religious indoctrination is the responsibility of the parents, since many parents are seen as neglecting the duty to sufficiently teach their children,
Christianity must be taught in public schools. Prayer in school helps build every child's morality helping them to make the right decision and better

How Religion Changes The Societal Behavior Of The...
Observing the daily lifestyles of the individuals from different time periods show a great deal of how the religion changes the societal behavior of the
followers of each religion. The religion's form of worshipping a God is a reputable indicator of the era's culture. While looking into The Iliad, we find
that the culture of that time highlights warfare and worshipping multiple Gods. This polytheistic culture differs greatly from the culture of The Torah,
which was the first established religion that believed in teaching a monotheistic education, believing in one God. Furthermore, one can see in The
New Testament that they also worship one God in addition to following the teachings of Jesus. This creates a difference in cultures as this changes the
way people worship their God/Gods. The transition into the first millennium brought many changes as new religions appeared and there became a
diversity in beliefs. Through looking at The Homeric Era, The Hellenic Era, and The Roman Era, the differences within these time periods are shown
through the transformation of each religion 's form of worship as a ritual.
In the Homeric Era, society is polytheistic and has a unique set of rituals. In order to worship the Gods they believe in, they carry out sacrifices and
pray to different Gods for different needs. The Gods will intermittently accept these sacrifices and provide something to the people in return. It is
perceived as an appeal to the Gods as the people believed that when

The Prayer Of Jesus And The Deaf Man Who Had A Speech Problem
Introduction to Mass:
Good morning everyone! I'm very pleased that I can celebrate this Eucharist with you. We know that every Mass is a beautiful time of encounter with
Jesus when we want to open our ears and eyes and listen to his voice. In today's Gospel Mark will tell us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who
had a speech problem. And we would like to ask the Lord to help us to have eyes that see His gifts, ears that hear His Words, and love to respond. Let
us confess our sins...
Homily
Every miracle that Jesus performed was unique. I think that in today's Gospel we can hear one of the most interesting miracles that Jesus performed.
Mark tells us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who had a speech problem. Jesus' compassion is so great that when the man approaches him,
He takes the man aside and heals him. And this is the first thing that can be very surprising and unique. But why does Jesus take the deaf man off
by himself away from the crowd? It seems that it would be more effective to cure somebody in the presence of others. In this case everyone would
be able to see and believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, that He is one who is sent from God, that He has divine power. But we see that Jesus
thinks in very different way. For him it's not so important human effectiveness but true and dense encounter with a person. The Lord wants to be alone
with him, away from the noise and activity of the crowd. He wants to be able to communicate with him in

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this paper is to reveal a direct correlation between prayer and character development. It is crucial that Christians fully understand this
tool that has been put in place in order for us to be able to communicate with the Lord, our Creator. Praying and communing with the Lord leads to and
builds not only a stronger relationship with Christ, but it also continues to build us in strength and character. The reflection of Christ should be evident
in the life of a Christian through character traits also known as the fruit of the spirit. Prayer strengthens the character of a ... Show more content on

Genesis 2:7 says, "And the Lord formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living
soul." We also read in the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace; and not of
evil, to give you an expected end." By reading these scriptures we learn that it is evident the Lord loves His creation, man who is created in His
image and He has created all of us with a purpose. In order for us to find the Lord's entire purpose for us on this earth, we must communicate with
Him daily. Christians are to be the example of Christ to the world around us. The Bible reminds us of the characteristics of his spirit.
Galatians 5:22–23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self–control.
Against such things there is no law." These are the character traits that we should be exemplifying. Prayer keeps us in touch with these. We have a
tendency to only want to call on the name of the Lord in troubled times in our lives, however, the Lord wants to communicate with us daily, in good
times and in bad times. We are created in His image and He has many good and wonderful things in store for us, but it takes prayer, waiting on the
Lord's direction and letting Him lead and guide us. We should look

Reflection About The TazпїЅ Prayer
At the TaizГ© prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long
pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person placed
the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross
continued, but this time the cross statue was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed their heads on it or
kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether final prayer followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this
opportunity of praying in a group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative music.
The TaizГ© prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together. This was my first time in a TaizГ© prayer, I have
never heard about it before this class. The prayer is centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand
up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. You are not alone, you spend the hour with people of
different churches or religious beliefs either in silence, singing, praying and worshipping.
During the prayer, I learned that the peace

The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes–Green
Paul Forbes
PHIL 231: Practical Wisdom Lab I
September 11, 2017
Reading Assignment: I read one hundred percent of the assigned book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by
Frederica Mathewes–Green.
PrГ©cis
During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and
fully devoted themselves to being in constant communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by
Paul's admonition to "pray without ceasing" (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated
this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable.
Frederica Mathewes–Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian's quest to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in
constant communion with God. The first third of her book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief
history, theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as "the Jesus Prayer." The last two
–thirds uses a
conversational question–and–answer format that takes the reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life.
A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady
stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions that "disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled." Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive
distractions during periods of prayer could be cured with "a substitute thought–a single, simple thought of prayer." After experimenting with various
short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture emerged, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me."
Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy. Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke
17:13, cried out, "Jesus,

Abstract Christianity and Buddhism are two religions that believe very differently from one another. They have a different god; believe differently
about how the world was created, what humans are and how we evolved. They have different beliefs on what happens after one dies, how we
know what we know, and how we know right from wrong. These two religions even have a different idea on what we are supposed to achieve or do
during our life time. Due to these differences, people of these religions have a different spiritual perspective on healing and they would like to be
cared for by the doctors and nurses in different ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Buddhism, knowledge is gained through a series of works and scriptures. Aside from the collection of scriptures, families also teach Buddhists
between right and wrong. Buddhism also has the Five Moral Precepts, which are: do not kill or harm anything living, do not steal, do not engage in
sexual misconduct, do not lie and do not consume intoxicants, such as tobacco, alcohol or mind–altering drugs (ElGindy, 2013). Family is very
important in Buddhism (Chen, 2016). In Buddhism, the meaning of human history is to achieve Nirvana. Spiritual Perspective on HealingIn Christianity
, physical and spiritual healing is found through Jesus Christ. He is the ultimate healer and only through His will can we be healed. (Stanley, 2014). In
Buddhism, healing is found more through Karma. If one has been living a good life, he or she will have good karma and they are less likely to get
sick. However, if they have been living a bad life, he or she will have bad karma, and that is the reason they get sick (Chen, 2016). In my opinion, I
believe that a person is healed through Jesus Christ. Getting sick is not a punishment from God, it is a natural occurrence. By praying for healing, one
can get healed. There are some instances in which He won't heal us, but that is because He is ready for us to come home to be with Him.

Prayer Definition Essay
How easy is it to become disheartened or weary about praying? If we're really honest with ourselves, it's pretty easy at times, especially when our
prayers seem to go unanswered. How about distractions? How easy is it to allow distractions to interrupt your prayers? How frustrating is it when
those unexpected thoughts pop into your head while praying? On average, how long can you pray before these distractions take effect? If you're
fortunate, it may be several minutes before things we forgot to do or need to do just pop into our mind. We catch ourselves and go right back into our
prayers only to be distracted again, at some later time. Do you think this happens with every Christian? How about with Billy Graham, R. C. Sproul,

Take a moment to think about ten of them. If I asked you, where in the world is the hardest place to pray, where would you say? The hardest place
would be here in the United States. Why? Awesome question! As Americans, we've become so caught up in a culture of always doing "something"
that it's hard to slow down and pray for any length of time. It feels uncomfortable or feels like we're wasting valuable time. Our society has placed such
a high premium on accomplishments or on being productive that prayer sometimes goes against the grain of our society. Do we see any
accomplishments in prayer? Are we being productive when we pray? Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it's
hopeless or useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to find defeat. What good does it do to
pray? Another problem with the American culture is our attention span. When we're not working, we're watching television, playing video games,
surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the movie theaters, look around to see how many people
are on their phones. Being still and quiet is not in the American culture. Sin is another "thing" which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In
William Shakespeare's Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who killed his own brother and Hamlet's father. At the end
of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, "My words fly up, my thoughts
remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go." Claudius tried to repent for committing murder, but he couldn't. We see him kneeling in
prayer, but he couldn't feel any sense of comfort or mercy from God. There's a realization that because he had no intentions of confessing to the crime
or even changing his life, his words were empty

The Importance Of The Tower Of Babel
"The most segregated place is Sunday service, what does that say about the God you worship?" – Lecrae; Dirty Water
Too many one might think that the Tower of Babel is about God punishing people, and in a way it was. The confusion that God placed on the people
was something made to humble the people trying to be at the same height of God. But the realities are that we have made strides in the list of human
achievements that have surpassed the height of the tower of Babel, and through that singular event, culture had erupted onto the earth.
The shift of being like God has changed from a physical one to a psychological one. Our idea of our ability to be god–like has inflated people in our
lives. From the people, we expect evil from like Hitler and Stalin, and from people who might not be as obvious as religious leaders and people in
mentoring positions in our lives.
"We don't worship for God, but for ourselves" was a quote from Joel Osteen's Wife, her message is a simple one worship God for the feelings that
derive from it, not to elicit humbling praise for the grace that God has hand–delivered us.
The dislocation in the church has been something of an issue since the beginning of the church in Acts. Steven was killed giving a list of issues that he
found in the church (Acts 7), and Martin Luther, and many other have died at the hands of the church. Yet, my statement remains; Our battle has
changed from a physical one to a psychological one.

The novel also has very much to do with Buddhist thoughts, mostly about the idea of "no–knowledge." To achieve wisdom, the Buddhist must clear his
head of any negative thoughts or distractions. This process is totally opposite to Western education, the education thatFranny and Zooey live in, which
is mentioned a lot of times in the book and stuffs its students with knowledge. Franny criticizes that the poets at her school does not describe anything
beautiful in their work, but only get into her head. She is disappointed in herself, as well, for trying to save wisdom through the Jesus Prayer as others
save knowledge. But what she does not know is that true "no–knowledge" cannot be saved. In the beginning of the book, it shows that Franny's
boyfriend, Lane, has the biggest ego in the book. The course to Buddhist "no–knowledge" is very difficult to do. The person would have to let go of
their personal ego and selfish concerns to reach open minded beauty. Franny dislikes her professors at her school because they are absorbed in their
own egos, and whatever detachment they have is and detachment from humanity. Buddhists try to get rid of their negativity ego and gain up the
positive part of the ego. Zooey tells Franny she has to act, as that is her God–given talent, and use her ego as best she can. Franny cannot let the
negative part of her ego interfere by making her criticize the other actors. Instead, she must focus

As each novel progresses, both protagonists seek instant pleasure in attempt to escape from their isolation, but their desperation for comfort leads to
their deteriorating health. Holden attempts to escape his feelings of alienation by going to New York City, but in his desperate attempt to connect
with others, his overall health worsens. Struggling with his loneliness, he reluctantly agrees to have a prostitute come to his room at the hotel: "I
was feeling so depressed I didn't even think" (Catcher 91). Holden's desperation has made him travel from Pencey Prep, in Pennsylvania, all the way
to New York City to escape his feeling of isolation from his fellow students. Even though it goes against his moral values about sex, he desperately
reaches out to anyone who might be willing to ease his loneliness, and that leads him to accept the offer of letting a prostitute come to his hotel.
Although once she arrives, he feels insecure and refuses to have sex. The prostitute is a symbol of instant gratification that Holden initially thought he
wanted to comfort his isolation, but ends up feeling too insecure to have sex because the prospect that his first sexual experience would be with a
prostitute depresses him. When Holden refuses to pay the extra charge that the prostitute requests, she gets annoyed and calls her "boss," Maurice.

Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality
Summary In the book, Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling, McMinn expands upon the theory of integrating psychology
and theology by providing the reader with concrete methods to utilize in counseling. His approach to integration is filled with helpful guidance for any
counselor striving to strike the appropriate balance in their sessions. McMinn divulges into how and when to use scripture, prayer, confession and
redemption. He advocates for utilizing these methods on a case by cases basis to ensure the client's best interest. Overall, the book provides a tangible
understanding of how to integrate theology and psychology into different counseling sessions. McMinn begins his book by advocating for a more
detailed approach to spiritual and psychological health. He saw that the current model had many problems, including the fact that it was too broad.
McMinn advocated for a more detailed map, and decided to create one himself. McMinn's new map depicted a triangle flow chart instead of a linear
progression. He believes "a more comprehensive perspective on psychological and spiritual health requires us to consider self, brokenness, and healing
relationships as interactive rather than linear" (McMinn, 2011, p. 50). The new map considers the client's faulty beliefs as hindrances to healing.
Counselors will need to work with their clients to develop an accurate sense of self, sense of need, and heathy healing relationship to produce real

Questions On The Prayer Of Jesus Christ And Subsequent...
INTRODUCTION Romans 5:1 to 11 is based on reconciliation though the death of Jesus Christ and subsequent hope and blessings that follows
with faith. In this essay, I will discuss the text before the verses to provide context, the historical background behind the text, the literary context,
and the content. Lastly I will make an exegetical summary on what the text hopes to accomplish, a theological witness explaining what the text
reveals about God, and eventually interpreting how it can be applied in our own lives. PERICOPE Chapter 4 gives examples of people living in
/ having faith since the beginning. Abraham had faith in God and God blessed him. Paul then mentions that God blessed Abraham even when he
was uncircumcised, a nod to Gentile Christians, even though Circumcision was considered proof of faith. God rewards Abraham's faith by letting
his wife become pregnant at 100 years old. As Osborne explains, there is a "significant shift of focus between" the two chapters; chapter four
centering on the necessity of faith for salvation while chapter five is on the effects of that salvation on the lives and experiences of believers"
(Osborne 124). In the HCSB version, Paul uses transition phrase, therefore, to move into chapter 5 to talk about the blessings of faith, how god
shows his love through Christ, making us "at peace with" God again. Stopping at verse 12 as it also begins with transition phase and proceeds to
explain sin and the necessity of God's grace. GENRE Romans

The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever personally brought the power of prayer to an impactful reality through the amazing revivals that have taken place.
One of the key characteristics one notices is that a prayer church started with a praying leader.9 As a leader in the church, I know I have personally
become complacent. Praying for revival, that the Lord takes my town by fire for His glory, without having the real expectation that it could
happen tomorrow or even within the next hour. The leader's who prayed for and saw spiritual revival were praying with an expectation. Reading
through the amazing accounts has lit a fire inside of me with a real expectation. It starts with God using me as a leader to get others to call on His
name whole heartedly. What lit this fire inside of me to expect a revival? It was dwelling on history of God's faithfulness to those who pray
sincerely. I have personally purposed to not let a month go by that I do not read and seek out a testimony to God's faithfulness to prayer. My
objective is to instill a passion for prayer upon Silver Valley Youth Group (SVYG). I need to have the same objective with my ministry as I do for
myself. I will be concentrating on the subject of prayer and God's amazing faithfulness at least once a month. I currently have implemented prayer

Personal Narrative: Foster And Enhance Faith Community
Foster and Enhance Faith Community
Prayer can be a sincere and compelling way of fostering and enhancing a faith community. Just as Jesus did with his disciples, " he taught them how
to pray," we must do the same. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2008, p. 59) Prayer life is a component of our Catholic faith that
should be a foremost priority. It's a unique way to communicate with God personally or with a group. Praying is that free gift from God, which can
bond and inspire others with few words. After reading this assignment, the first thing I thought of was an experience with prayer, but since prayer is
such a considerable part of being a Catholic, I had a difficult time settling on a single prayerful experience, so I prayed upon it and there it was. For
me, the simple idea of praying for others and including the faith community, can be seen in my experience at a local diocesan ... Show more content on

Relevancy Of Fleece Ceremony
Thank you for your post on Dave Earley's thoughts on "fleece" praying and its relevancy in the Church Age today. In order to understand the relevancy
of "fleece" praying, believers must understand the purpose of praying. Richard J. Foster shares, "Of all spiritual disciplines, prayer is the most central
because it ushers us into perpetual communion with the Father" (1998, 33). Prayer is a communication with our heavenly Father. Jesus shared with
the disciples a simple, but powerful interactive prayer with his disciples. He stated, "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your
name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done..." (Matt. 6:9). I agree with you wholeheartedly, "God will not answer prayers that are not a part of his

Comparing Miller And Azurdia's View Of Prayer
First, Miller's incitement that we must learn to pray as a child is profoundly encouraging as it brings prayer to common ground, making it simple
to grasp. Most of us can relate to how we interact and talk with our fathers (or some father figure). We can remember asking for help, crying out in
desperation, saying thank you for good gifts, etc. Miller's encouragement reminds me of Psalms 131: "O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes
are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a
weaned child with its mother [italics added]; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me. Israel, hope in the Lord from this time on and
forevermore." Sometimes we can get so hung up praying "theological"... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, as it relates to how Miller's encouragement to childlike prayer relates to Azurdia's view that "prayer is not just talking to God", it would be
poorly gathered conclusion to say that Miller's fundamental point is in opposition Azurdia's view. Ultimately, Miller speaks to the manner or mindset
in which we are to approach God in prayer, while Azurdia address the substance of our prayers. Consider Miller's words: "Less mature Christians have
little need to prayer [...] Surprisingly, mature Christians feel less mature on the inside. When they hear Jesus say, 'Apart from me you can do nothing'
(John 15:5), they nod in agreement [...] That's why strong Christians pray more." (Miller, 57–59). In this you can quickly see that Miller views prayer
much more than mere childlike babbling (cf. Matt.

The Different Types of Prayer Essay
The Different Types of Prayer
Prayer is a form of communication between God and people. Christians use prayers in both public and private worship as away of communicating
with God. They also use prayers to listen to God and receive guidance, support and comfort from him. The prayers may be said in silence or aloud.
Jesus taught that people must be persistent in prayer. They should not expect their prayers to be answered straight away. Jesus taught that Christians
must pray with true faith and devotion.
Prayer was the way through which Jesus could talk to his father, God. Jesus believed that God had a purpose for his creation. He used prayers as the

A confession prayer Г "Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us."
This confession prayer is asking for the forgiveness of their sins. It also says that forgive us because we forgive those people do bad to us.
Christians believe that unless they forgive others, they can't be forgiven themselves. Therefore it says. "...as we forgive the wrongs that others have
done to us."
The second type of prayer I will look at is thanksgiving.
THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving is thanking God.
When Christians want to thank God for something, they say a thanksgiving prayer. This kind of prayer helps Christians feel grateful and stops them
from taking things for granted.
People can thank God for various things. For example: getting better/ recovering from an illness; giving them life; some good news they've received etc.
I interviewed a Christian on thanksgiving and this is what she said:
"Every time I go to church, I thank God for my loving husband and my two beautiful children who he's blessed me with. I'm thankful for all that he's
given me– a place where I earn my living, a place that I can call home and so much more. Every time, I have a problem, I pray to him. I ask him for
help and guidance."

Church is an important part of being a Christian. It isn't about the building or what it looks like, but it is about the community and learning about God.
When saying we love Jesus, but hate the church we have to understand that saying this is impossible. In 1 Corinthians 12:12–31, talks about how Jesus
is the head of the church and we are the body. If we hate the church it is like hating the head of the body. People get so involved in what the church
may look, whether it has a modern day feel to it or if the building hasn't changed since they were kids. After being a part of a church for so many
years you get comfortable with the surrounds. I found this project interesting because I got to see how different churches worship Jesus. Especially...

different readings at different times also each one had a different phrase we had to recite back. The priest read from Luke 6:42 King James
Version, which stated "Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest
not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the
mote that is in thy brother's eye." The priest kissed the Bible at the end of the reading. We sang a few hymns and sat down. He stepped off the
stage onto the ground and talked about a saint you saved many slaves lives by spreading the love of Jesus. He tried to connect the scripture to the
story, but it was semi difficult to understand how they connect. We then kneeled and the priest read another prayer to us. Multiple times throughout
the service we would sing a hymn, sit down and listened to readings or the priest, lastly we would kneel and pray. They prepared communion at the
front on the stage. Everyone waited in line to get bread to eat in honor of Jesus death. To be able to take communion there were step to be taken also
being a part of the catholic church. After communion was taken we sang a hymn and said the Lord's prayer. It was hard

Baptist Church Experience Paper

  • 1. Baptist Church Experience Paper In my experience at first progressive Baptist Church I was very much out of my comfort zone because not only did I not feel as welcomed but it was a little awkward because of all the looks I was receiving. I felt I was not dressed as they were and felt as if I didn't fit in and right away I just didn't feel appropriate with my attire. While I was there I actually had people wanting to shake hands and asking me questions about me coming and there was one man who just stared at me and so it was uncomfortable and didn't know how to react. While I was there I started to notice that there is a little difference from the church I go to and the music was way different as well, everyone will talk back with amen or thank you Jesus. The difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the service was a very good eye opener because I'm the type of person to try new things and like to experience other cultures and as well as religion. I think it's a big deal knowing that I went to this service with shyness but also facing my fears because at the end of the day I know I tried something new even when I hesitated to go in the church by myself. Not only did I feel like I was getting looks I thought I was actually gonna get told to leave just because he color of my skin and I don't know why I thought that but it was just a feeling I had since I had never been to a African American church before especially a baptist church. During the service I was actually feeling the energy that was going on in the room and it made me just want to shout like everybody else but I felt like it was my primary church in a strange way but I really enjoyed every minute of it regardless of what I thought at first when I walked in. After the service was done we had a prayer and he went to people who wanted to be prayed for and it was very at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Reflection Paper On The Tazaie Prayer TaizГ© Prayer At the TaizГ© prayer, the area with the altar and candles was inviting. First the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross in the center was about to begin when a person placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross at the table and placed their heads on it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the final prayer was said followed by a song as the closing. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative music. The TaizГ© prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together. This was my first time in a TaizГ© prayer, I have never heard about it before this class. The TaizГ© prayer is a different way from how I am used to communicating with God. The prayer is centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. The prayer relates to Kay Lindahl's contemplative listening or listening in silence to God in Practicing the Sacred Art of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Original Understanding Of The Discipline Before The Course Introduction To be detached from the hustle and noise of our lives, yet find peace within ourselves while we inhabit this world. Perhaps the most surprising yet fulfilling spiritual discipline I have learnt this year, whilst partaking in this course is that of finding the time to sit silently of all distractions in solitude and focus only on God. Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started Prior to this course and even prior to becoming a Christian seven years ago, I would use solitude as a form of escaping from where I didn't want to be in life. Especially as a child and teenager living in an environment of verbal abuse and violence whist watching the effects of an alcoholic parent slowly destroy my respect for who they were. Solitude and silence was my revenge and in someway my shelter. I believe this solitude prior to my Christianity was a tool I used to make me "harder". It allowed me to shut off emotions, empathy towards those I resented and survive in that world. In hindsight, Solitude back then in my life, probably made me more non– Christian. A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline Dr Van Shore lecturer of Alpacrucis College, states: David the King and Poet who wrote Psalm 23, could not have savoured and tasted the love of God as he describes this, without solitude. David calls his listeners to be still and hear God despite the turmoil of the battles they were enduring at the time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of The Jesus Prayer? Buddy's importance in telling the story is to give the reader a different perspective. To Franny and Zooey's biased way of seeing Franny's reasons in following the Jesus prayer. Based on a reliable outsider's perspective, Franny thinks the Jesus prayer will help her keeping calm and will give her a piece of Seymour. However, Zooey thinks Franny is only using the Jesus prayer to not have to deal with her problems. Zooey also thinks that if Franny is using the Jesus prayer she should really learn to understand it and do it for herself. Zooey's biased way of seeing Franny's reasons of using the Jesus prayer can be compared to a quote from "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna" "sir we ought to teach the people that they are doing wrong in worshipping the images and pictures in the temple.that's the way with you calcutta people you want to teach and preach you want to give millions when you are beggars yourselves...Do you think god does not know that he is being worshipped in the image? If a worshipper should make a mistake,do you think god will know his intent?"(Salinger). Meaning that god will know her intentions when praying, and will know she's not praying for her but because she feels like she must do it in order to go on with her life and feel Seymor close.Zooey also suggests that if Franny is "going to say the Jesus prayer, she should at least say it to Jesus. And not to St.Francis and Seymour"(Salinger). Not only that but he suspects Franny's "using the Jesus prayer ... • 5. 7 Prayers Of Jesus Research Paper What do you learn by reading several of the twenty–seven prayers of Jesus? There is a lot to be learned when reading Jesus prayers. It's also worthy to note as a reader I don't just look at the verse that was the prayer, bur also look before and after. I find reading the context the prayer was developed around is very important. I will start off my reviewing several prayers I have chosen from the list and give you what I learned and in the end summarize my thoughts. Starting with Hebrews 2:12, Jesus prays to the Lord and states that he will proclaim his name to the community. He states, "'in the midst of congregation I will praise you'". That line really stands out to me and makes me think, why does Jesus the Son of God pray to himself? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different genres in the Bible. More so there are tons of prayer going in the Bible that fit into different genres. Looking at different literary literary devices that encompasses genre we can begin to see how prayer really is a genre and what distinguishes it as such. Jesus tells us how to pray. [Matthew 6:9–13] This is an example of technique which fits into what makes prayer a genre. Jesus was showing how prayer should be done specifically. There is also different historical time frames in regards to prayer. Looking at how Abraham prayed in Genesis 18 to how Jonah prayed in Jonah 2 you can see a major difference in the times. Looking at Jonah 2, you can see that Jonah's prayer to God is a Psalm. Jonah uses metaphors throughout this prayer. Going back to Abraham's prayer he is speaking with no metaphors or figurative language to God. This is very important because the differences is what makes prayer have different genres. Different tones in prayer are heard as well, from when Jesus was begging God to not to kill him on the cross [Matthew 26:39] to Jesus in a much joyful tone as he rejoices. [Luke 10:21] Not only tone sets a genre but so does the content of the prayer which changes from character to character in the Bible. These are just a few examples of what distinguishes prayer as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Greg In Scripture Greg then launches into the topic of prayer, he says, "The Pharisees were caught up in repeating ritualized prayers over and over again. They seemed to believe that the longer the prayer, the more spiritual and pleasing to God. But God isn't interested in eloquence. Not at all. Prayer should come from the heart. He isn't interested in how perfectly our prayers sound, or whether they rhyme, or whether we throw in any King James English, or how long they are. He is concerned with how genuine they are. One of the most eloquent prayers in Scripture comes from a man who said,'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' (Luke 18:13). Now that is an effective prayer. That is a man who was honest with God. He said what he was thinking and simply laid it out before the Lord. And guess what? Jesus Himself said that man's prayer was heard." Greg then goes on to use the Lord's prayer as a guide to show us how to pray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He ends his book with a chapter on knowing God, in a one on one relationship. Finally Greg closes with a section on salvation. And what better a way to close a book on discipleship then with salvation? Now lets get down to my opinion on the class. I must say I have been surprised by what passes as a class on spiritual formation and transformation. Which is not to say that I don't agree with some things about the class, but all in all I'm very disappointed. • 7. Essay on Franny and Zooey and Holden Caufield Holden as a Foil ti Zooey Although they are the protagonists from two separate books, Franny Glass, a teenage girl in J.D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey, and Holden Caufield, a young man in Salinger's novel Catcher in the Rye, serve as foils to each other. Both suffer unnecessarily due to their interaction with those whom they are close to, due to their relationships with themselves, as well as due to their views on the world. In the end, however Franny and Holden change their values and therefore are able to begin the healing process. Throughout Franny and Zooey, Franny perceives humans to be inherently evil. As a result, she constantly feels frustrated with the egotism and self–centeredness of the world. One of Franny's major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, she often recites "the Jesus prayer." Like the prayer's namesake, Franny experiences guilt for anyone who is not completely righteous. Holden too feels responsible for the prevention of corruptness. His fantasy is to stand in a field and prevent children from falling off the edge, thus saving them from society's imperfections. In addition, a major theme common to both books is the relationship of the protagonist to a sibling, and the healing that ensues as a result. For Franny, this healing comes about through her older brother, Zooey. In his efforts to help his sister, Zooey points out the flaws in Franny's prayers. He shows that by becoming obsessed, Franny is acting as self–centered as the people against which she battles. For Holden, on the other hand, it is the innocence of Pheobe, contrary to the scornfulness of Zooey, which persuades Holden that there is in fact a balance between untainted aspects of society as well as less than perfect ones. In this way, Pheobe succeeds in changing Holden's outlook. Rather than focusing solely on the negative facets of a situation, Holden learns to take all parts into account, and not to become discouraged. Lastly, Franny and Holden can be compared and contrasted through their inner thoughts. Franny often finds herself feeling remorseful for her personal trivial harms, such as when she asks her boyfriend for the olive in his martini. When she realizes that "she ... According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, a ritual is a set of actions or words preformed in a regular way. Different from tradition, rituals can be practiced or completely random as long as it is repeated or done in particular way. There are some traditions that can be argued as rituals and vise versa. The main difference between tradition and ritual is that tradition is passed down from generation to generation and has been established over a long period of time. Most rituals often have a religious aspect to them. Religious rituals have been integrated in Western culture, specifically Christian religion. For example, adult Muslims practice prayer five times a day. As a Christian, it is more flexible. I perform at least once a day. Specifically, I pray right before I go to sleep. There are certain steps I do in each prayer that has become second nature. I start by asking God to watch over my loved ones, and then follow with asking God for help and guidance over stresses in my life as well as thanking Him for living another day, and I finish with repeating the "Lord's Prayer", a Christian prayer that was taught by Jesus to his disciples. I do this because if I didn't, I would feel that the prayer was incomplete. The "Lord's Prayer" is an important element because the set of words gives me a connection with the beginning teachings of Christianity due to the fact that Jesus once spoke those words. Personal prayer is where I find intimacy with God and how I integrate my religion on a day–to–day basis. • 9. Prayer Beads In Religion Prayer beads have a important role in the history of believers as they seek to deepen their connection to God. Prayer beads, according to a study in 1987, are a tool for prayer used by five major religions; Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Christianity (Wernik, 361)(Television 430). Not only are prayer beads used in religion but there is also a branch of secular prayer beads, called worry beads; which are used as a stress management tool (Wernik, 362). Numerous Protestant assume that prayer beads are a solely Catholic ritual, one that is not for them (40). It is easy to forget that both Catholic and Protestants share a common history, thus the use of beads or tangible elements. In their quest to prayer without ceasing, early desert dwellers commenced praying the entire psalter daily (43). As the monks began to memorize the psalms, they required a system to count; a bowl or pocket with pebbles or stones (43). Since this method is not the most portable, prayer ropes were created around the fourth century. In the middle ages, the daily office, become the new way to pray without ceasing (43). As the daily office was primarily reserved for monastic communities, lay people were encouraged to say the Lord's Prayer one hundred and fifty times; the tool for counting this become the rosary or as it was once called the poor man's psalter (44). While Martin Luther warned against the idle use of empty prayer, it is possible that he did not disagree with the use of beads in prayer (44). Luther modified the Hail Mary prayer so that it contained only biblical text (46). Since habits are hard to break, the use of the Hail Mary, the rosary fell out of use among Protestants. • 10. Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert According to Jacques Ranciere, Emma's death was a verdict made by Gustave Flaubert because she was unable to distinguish the practical–mindedness and sentimentality of art, which was the lifestyle she had chosen to live. "Art means distinction to her, it means a certain lifestyle. Art has to permeate all the aspects of existence" (Ranciere 238–239). Emma had sought after the church and religion throughout this novel in seeking spiritual enlightenment. However, the self–integration of religious art and literature in Emma's life had caused her to condone the benefits she could have received of religion and of the church. "With a mind that was practical in pursuit of its enthusiasms, that had loved the church for its flowers, music for the words of its sentimental songs, and literature for its power to stir the emotions, she rebelled against the mysteries of faith" (Flaubert 36). Emma was unable to discern that her sentimental view on religious arts substituted her spirituality; the inability to separately define the two elements resulted in her downfall and death. From the start of Emma's stay at the convent, she was wooed by the atmosphere of the church – which she found sentimental – and thus began to walk the path to her own death. "Instead of following the mass, she would study...the pious illustrations with their sky–blue borders, and she loved the sick lamb, the Scared Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor Jesus, stumbling under the burden of his cross" (Flaubert 33). ... • 11. Prayer Is The Most Essential Of Spiritual Growth One of the most difficult questions a Christian is often asked is where they are in their spiritual journey. Celebration of Discipline helps us understand the important aspects that help deepen our faith. Foster writes that there are three categories of disciplines me must learn: inward, outward, and corporate. Each category has four subcategories. I believe that prayer, service, and worship are the most essential in spiritual growth. The first category Foster writes about is inward discipline. Inward discipline is an act that other believes cannot measure. Inward disciplines are personal to your relationship with God. The four types of inward disciplines are meditation, prayer, fasting, and study. Although they are all important, I think that prayer is the most beneficial. The discipline of prayer brings us into the deepest work of the human spirit (Page 33). Prayer is the key to God transforming us. As we learn to pray, we learn that our will eventually molds to His will. I have been hearing a lot of messages lately about the Lord's Prayer. When we say "Thy will be done" we are not asking God to give us what we want, we are asking God to transform what we want to become what He wants. Prayer is something that we should center our daily lives around. When we begin to prayer God meets us where we are, no matter how far along we are in our journey. God uses prayer to push us deeper into who He is. Sometimes prayer can be frustrating because we do not feel like our prayers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Judaism, Christianity, And Islam Some people may think that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three completely different religions. But if you take a better look into these religions, you begin to see that altogether, they are simply three different variations of one story. Let 's start with how and where these different but similar religions worship. Muslims worship in Mosques, with separated areas for men and women. Based off of the class trip to the ICC mosque in Des Plaines, a worship takes around 15–20 minutes and is said mostly in Arabic. The prayer service at the mosque seems to be the most organized, yet it is also the most laid back. When people come in, they are aware of what they have to do and how they are expected to act. If people come in late, they do not distract anyone else, and quietly go to the back of the mosque. Although the mosque is an option for prayer, Muslims can pray outside of a Mosque as well, as long as they are facing Mecca. In terms of worship technicalities, Judaism is a little bit different, as they don 't separate men and women. Additionally, they pray in a something similar to a Mosque, a Synagogue. Although they don 't face Mecca like the Muslims do, they face the Ark. At the JBBG synagogue that was visited, all of the pews are facing the altar and the Ark. In one of the smaller study rooms in the building, all of the chairs are facing the smaller Ark that is in the room. Salinger's childhood or family, a plethora of his works include overall themes of family and how different aspects of childhood can affect someone in the future (Wenke). In his novel, Franny and Zooey, this theme is an important part of the story (French). The story begins with Franny Glass' story, told in third person by an unknown narrator. She's taking a weekend off from college to meet her boyfriend, Lane Coutell, to eat lunch and spend the weekend with him for his college's football weekend. At lunch, Franny has a mental breakdown and tells Lane about how she hates all of the fake people she encounters. She meets many poets and they all write about what will interest people and not about what they actually feel. She finds beauty in the things that actually have important value to people rather than something that means nothing. Lane also questions her on the little green book she always carries around. She avoids the question until she can't and explains she got it in her college library, which she is obviously lying about. She proceeds to go to the bathroom and pass out. When she wakes up, Lane can tell something is wrong, but he no longer questions her. Then it switches to Zooey's story. It is narrated by the second eldest Glass sibling, Buddy Glass. Liberals, realizing that private prayer is and has always been legal, try to keep the balance between church–state separation as it is. This has kept the political issue of religion at a boil and confused many people on the actual issue of coercive school prayer. State Supreme Courts have made a few rulings on the constitutionality of student–led prayer at voluntary school events such as ballgames and graduation ceremonies, but there has been no national outline on what practices are legal and illegal. Also, moments of silence are currently under debate, with the court ruling usually hinging on whether or not the moment is implemented to encourage prayer(ACLU). There are many practical reasons why people argue for the integration of prayer into the curriculum of public schools. The most commonly cited reason for this is that children need the moral and ethical guidance that religion taught in the classroom will provide them. While almost everyone agrees that religious indoctrination is the responsibility of the parents, since many parents are seen as neglecting the duty to sufficiently teach their children, Christianity must be taught in public schools. Observing the daily lifestyles of the individuals from different time periods show a great deal of how the religion changes the societal behavior of the followers of each religion. The religion's form of worshipping a God is a reputable indicator of the era's culture. While looking into The Iliad, we find that the culture of that time highlights warfare and worshipping multiple Gods. This polytheistic culture differs greatly from the culture of The Torah, which was the first established religion that believed in teaching a monotheistic education, believing in one God. Furthermore, one can see in The New Testament that they also worship one God in addition to following the teachings of Jesus. This creates a difference in cultures as this changes the way people worship their God/Gods. The transition into the first millennium brought many changes as new religions appeared and there became a diversity in beliefs. Through looking at The Homeric Era, The Hellenic Era, and The Roman Era, the differences within these time periods are shown through the transformation of each religion 's form of worship as a ritual. In the Homeric Era, society is polytheistic and has a unique set of rituals. In order to worship the Gods they believe in, they carry out sacrifices and pray to different Gods for different needs. The Gods will intermittently accept these sacrifices and provide something to the people in return. It is perceived as an appeal to the Gods as the people believed that when ... In today's Gospel Mark will tell us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who had a speech problem. Homily Every miracle that Jesus performed was unique. I think that in today's Gospel we can hear one of the most interesting miracles that Jesus performed. Mark tells us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who had a speech problem. Jesus' compassion is so great that when the man approaches him, He takes the man aside and heals him. And this is the first thing that can be very surprising and unique. But why does Jesus take the deaf man off by himself away from the crowd? It seems that it would be more effective to cure somebody in the presence of others. In this case everyone would be able to see and believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, that He is one who is sent from God, that He has divine power. We also read in the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace; and not of evil, to give you an expected end." By reading these scriptures we learn that it is evident the Lord loves His creation, man who is created in His image and He has created all of us with a purpose. In order for us to find the Lord's entire purpose for us on this earth, we must communicate with Him daily. Christians are to be the example of Christ to the world around us. Reflection About The TazпїЅ Prayer At the TaizГ© prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross statue was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed their heads on it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether final prayer followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative music. PrГ©cis During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and fully devoted themselves to being in constant communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by Paul's admonition to "pray without ceasing" (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable. Frederica Mathewes–Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian's quest to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in constant communion with God. The first third of her book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief history, theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as "the Jesus Prayer." The last two –thirds uses a conversational question–and–answer format that takes the reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life. A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions that "disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled." Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive distractions during periods of prayer could be cured with "a substitute thought–a single, simple thought of prayer." After experimenting with various short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture emerged, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me." Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy. Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke 17:13, cried out, "Jesus,

Are we being productive when we pray? Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it's hopeless or useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to find defeat. What good does it do to pray? Another problem with the American culture is our attention span. When we're not working, we're watching television, playing video games, surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the movie theaters, look around to see how many people are on their phones. Being still and quiet is not in the American culture. Sin is another "thing" which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who killed his own brother and Hamlet's father. At the end of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, "My words fly up, my thoughts remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go." Claudius tried to repent for committing murder, but he couldn't. We see him kneeling in prayer, but he couldn't feel any sense of comfort or mercy from God. There's a realization that because he had no intentions of confessing to the crime or even changing his life, his words were empty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Importance Of The Tower Of Babel "The most segregated place is Sunday service, what does that say about the God you worship?" – Lecrae; Dirty Water Too many one might think that the Tower of Babel is about God punishing people, and in a way it was. The confusion that God placed on the people was something made to humble the people trying to be at the same height of God. But the realities are that we have made strides in the list of human achievements that have surpassed the height of the tower of Babel, and through that singular event, culture had erupted onto the earth. The shift of being like God has changed from a physical one to a psychological one. Our idea of our ability to be god–like has inflated people in our lives. From the people, we expect evil from like Hitler and Stalin, and from people who might not be as obvious as religious leaders and people in mentoring positions in our lives. "We don't worship for God, but for ourselves" was a quote from Joel Osteen's Wife, her message is a simple one worship God for the feelings that derive from it, not to elicit humbling praise for the grace that God has hand–delivered us. The dislocation in the church has been something of an issue since the beginning of the church in Acts. Steven was killed giving a list of issues that he found in the church (Acts 7), and Martin Luther, and many other have died at the hands of the church. Yet, my statement remains; Our battle has changed from a physical one to a psychological one. The point of the tower of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel also has very much to do with Buddhist thoughts, mostly about the idea of "no–knowledge." To achieve wisdom, the Buddhist must clear his head of any negative thoughts or distractions. This process is totally opposite to Western education, the education thatFranny and Zooey live in, which is mentioned a lot of times in the book and stuffs its students with knowledge. Franny criticizes that the poets at her school does not describe anything beautiful in their work, but only get into her head. She is disappointed in herself, as well, for trying to save wisdom through the Jesus Prayer as others save knowledge. But what she does not know is that true "no–knowledge" cannot be saved. In the beginning of the book, it shows that Franny's boyfriend, Lane, has the biggest ego in the book. The course to Buddhist "no–knowledge" is very difficult to do. The person would have to let go of their personal ego and selfish concerns to reach open minded beauty. Franny dislikes her professors at her school because they are absorbed in their own egos, and whatever detachment they have is and detachment from humanity. Buddhists try to get rid of their negativity ego and gain up the positive part of the ego. Zooey tells Franny she has to act, as that is her God–given talent, and use her ego as best she can. Franny cannot let the negative part of her ego interfere by making her criticize the other actors. Instead, she must focus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both protagonists overcome estrangement when they learn from their siblings the underlying reason behind their feelings of isolation. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield fails to form a connection with others at Pencey Prep and escapes to New York City in an attempt to overcome his alienation. As each novel progresses, both protagonists seek instant pleasure in attempt to escape from their isolation, but their desperation for comfort leads to their deteriorating health. Holden attempts to escape his feelings of alienation by going to New York City, but in his desperate attempt to connect with others, his overall health worsens. Struggling with his loneliness, he reluctantly agrees to have a prostitute come to his room at the hotel: "I was feeling so depressed I didn't even think" (Catcher 91). Holden's desperation has made him travel from Pencey Prep, in Pennsylvania, all the way to New York City to escape his feeling of isolation from his fellow students. Even though it goes against his moral values about sex, he desperately reaches out to anyone who might be willing to ease his loneliness, and that leads him to accept the offer of letting a prostitute come to his hotel. Although once she arrives, he feels insecure and refuses to have sex. The prostitute is a symbol of instant gratification that Holden initially thought he wanted to comfort his isolation, but ends up feeling too insecure to have sex because the prospect that his first sexual experience would be with a prostitute depresses him. When Holden refuses to pay the extra charge that the prostitute requests, she gets annoyed and calls her "boss," Maurice. Eventually, this situation results in Holden being assaulted. • 34. Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality Summary In the book, Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling, McMinn expands upon the theory of integrating psychology and theology by providing the reader with concrete methods to utilize in counseling. His approach to integration is filled with helpful guidance for any counselor striving to strike the appropriate balance in their sessions. McMinn divulges into how and when to use scripture, prayer, confession and redemption. He advocates for utilizing these methods on a case by cases basis to ensure the client's best interest. Overall, the book provides a tangible understanding of how to integrate theology and psychology into different counseling sessions. McMinn begins his book by advocating for a more detailed approach to spiritual and psychological health. He saw that the current model had many problems, including the fact that it was too broad. McMinn advocated for a more detailed map, and decided to create one himself. McMinn's new map depicted a triangle flow chart instead of a linear progression. He believes "a more comprehensive perspective on psychological and spiritual health requires us to consider self, brokenness, and healing relationships as interactive rather than linear" (McMinn, 2011, p. 50). The new map considers the client's faulty beliefs as hindrances to healing. Counselors will need to work with their clients to develop an accurate sense of self, sense of need, and heathy healing relationship to produce real change in their ... • 35. Questions On The Prayer Of Jesus Christ And Subsequent... INTRODUCTION Romans 5:1 to 11 is based on reconciliation though the death of Jesus Christ and subsequent hope and blessings that follows with faith. In this essay, I will discuss the text before the verses to provide context, the historical background behind the text, the literary context, and the content. Lastly I will make an exegetical summary on what the text hopes to accomplish, a theological witness explaining what the text reveals about God, and eventually interpreting how it can be applied in our own lives. PERICOPE Chapter 4 gives examples of people living in / having faith since the beginning. Abraham had faith in God and God blessed him. Paul then mentions that God blessed Abraham even when he was uncircumcised, a nod to Gentile Christians, even though Circumcision was considered proof of faith. God rewards Abraham's faith by letting his wife become pregnant at 100 years old. As Osborne explains, there is a "significant shift of focus between" the two chapters; chapter four centering on the necessity of faith for salvation while chapter five is on the effects of that salvation on the lives and experiences of believers" (Osborne 124). In the HCSB version, Paul uses transition phrase, therefore, to move into chapter 5 to talk about the blessings of faith, how god shows his love through Christ, making us "at peace with" God again. Stopping at verse 12 as it also begins with transition phase and proceeds to explain sin and the necessity of God's grace. GENRE Romans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Personal Narrative: Foster And Enhance Faith Community Foster and Enhance Faith Community Prayer can be a sincere and compelling way of fostering and enhancing a faith community. Just as Jesus did with his disciples, " he taught them how to pray," we must do the same. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2008, p. 59) Prayer life is a component of our Catholic faith that should be a foremost priority. It's a unique way to communicate with God personally or with a group. Praying is that free gift from God, which can bond and inspire others with few words. After reading this assignment, the first thing I thought of was an experience with prayer, but since prayer is such a considerable part of being a Catholic, I had a difficult time settling on a single prayerful experience, so I prayed upon it and there it was. Walking into the school, I glanced at what looked to be colored tablecloths or quilts displayed on tables in the hallways. • 39. Relevancy Of Fleece Ceremony Thank you for your post on Dave Earley's thoughts on "fleece" praying and its relevancy in the Church Age today. In order to understand the relevancy of "fleece" praying, believers must understand the purpose of praying. Richard J. Foster shares, "Of all spiritual disciplines, prayer is the most central because it ushers us into perpetual communion with the Father" (1998, 33). Prayer is a communication with our heavenly Father. Jesus shared with the disciples a simple, but powerful interactive prayer with his disciples. He stated, "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done..." (Matt. 6:9). I agree with you wholeheartedly, "God will not answer prayers that are not a part of his will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Comparing Miller And Azurdia's View Of Prayer First, Miller's incitement that we must learn to pray as a child is profoundly encouraging as it brings prayer to common ground, making it simple to grasp. Most of us can relate to how we interact and talk with our fathers (or some father figure). We can remember asking for help, crying out in desperation, saying thank you for good gifts, etc. Miller's encouragement reminds me of Psalms 131: "O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother [italics added]; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me. Israel, hope in the Lord from this time on and forevermore." Sometimes we can get so hung up praying "theological"... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, as it relates to how Miller's encouragement to childlike prayer relates to Azurdia's view that "prayer is not just talking to God", it would be poorly gathered conclusion to say that Miller's fundamental point is in opposition Azurdia's view. Ultimately, Miller speaks to the manner or mindset in which we are to approach God in prayer, while Azurdia address the substance of our prayers. Consider Miller's words: "Less mature Christians have little need to prayer [...] Surprisingly, mature Christians feel less mature on the inside. When they hear Jesus say, 'Apart from me you can do nothing' (John 15:5), they nod in agreement [...] That's why strong Christians pray more." (Miller, 57–59). In this you can quickly see that Miller views prayer much more than mere childlike babbling (cf. Matt. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Different Types of Prayer Essay The Different Types of Prayer Prayer is a form of communication between God and people. Christians use prayers in both public and private worship as away of communicating with God. They also use prayers to listen to God and receive guidance, support and comfort from him. The prayers may be said in silence or aloud. Jesus taught that people must be persistent in prayer. They should not expect their prayers to be answered straight away. A confession prayer Г "Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us." This confession prayer is asking for the forgiveness of their sins. It also says that forgive us because we forgive those people do bad to us. Christians believe that unless they forgive others, they can't be forgiven themselves. Therefore it says. "...as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us." The second type of prayer I will look at is thanksgiving. THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving is thanking God. When Christians want to thank God for something, they say a thanksgiving prayer. This kind of prayer helps Christians feel grateful and stops them from taking things for granted. People can thank God for various things. For example: getting better/ recovering from an illness; giving them life; some good news they've received etc.

When saying we love Jesus, but hate the church we have to understand that saying this is impossible. In 1 Corinthians 12:12–31, talks about how Jesus is the head of the church and we are the body. If we hate the church it is like hating the head of the body.
