big breast? Mermaid thighs are a good trend on social media because it creates confidence, body
positivity, and acceptance for how your body looks. After this recent trend called Mermaid thighs, it
has changed the way I look at myself. Mermaid thigh is a new trend uplifting body image of women
whose thighs touch. Why would this be important you say? Well, around 2014 a new trend called
"Thigh Gap" took the social media world by storm! Everybody wanted the Thigh Gap, there wasn't a
day you didn't see an image of it. And for girls who didn't have the glorified thigh gap, brought them

Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin both a political scientist and government official. He lead the Bolshevik Revolution
also founded the Russian Communist party. He considered "the most influential and controversial
political figures of the 20th century."–www.biography.com. Vladimir Lynch Ulyanovsk was born on
April 22, 1870 in Ulyanovsk, Russia. He was the third of six children, all if his brothers and sisters

him to success. Later on in life things got very hard for Lenin. His father was an inspector for
schools, they wanted him to quit his job because the influence he had on the Russian community.
In 1887 Aleksandr (Vladimir's older brother) was arrested for planning to kill Alexander III. He and
three others were planning to throw bombs in his carriage. Alexzander III showed no mercy they

because Siberia is known for being very cold and lonely, and almost no one escapes. In July 1898,

The Development of Capitalism in Russia. In 1900 Lenin was released from prison and went back

Effects Of Plus Size In Fashion
In 2012, Tess Holliday pioneered the hashtag, "effyourbeautystandards" on Twitter. She started the
trending phrase to share her frustration over the fashion industry generally only portraying a certain
body type. Fast forward to 2017 and Holliday, who was discovered as a plus–size model on
Instagram, can be found gracing the pages of Vogue Italia, as well as other plus–size models like
Ashley Graham, Vogue's first plus–size cover girl. Seven years is relatively short time for plus–size
people to push their way to the front of the fashion industry and it's all because of one little thing–
social media. The first thing to address is the term plus–size. The fashion industry infamously begins
tacking on the plus at size 8. According to the CDC, in 2014 the average women's waist size was
38.1 inches, which is generally a 16 in U.S. sizes. This means that the average U.S. woman looks a
lot different than the size 8 the industry dubs as plus–size, not to mention the size 4–6 that is average
for high fashion/editorial models, according to modelmanagement.com. Popular "plus–size" models
like Ashley Graham, a size 16, and Iskra Lawrence, a size 14, are actually portraying the average
American female. Tess Holiday, size 26 and Rebel Wilson, the Pitch Perfect actress who wears a
size 24, are plus–size models above the average size. The confusion surrounding the term plus–size
is just another thing that frustrates consumers. This disconnect between fashion and the average
consumer is

Lenin's Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences
Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged
workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His views became known as Marxism and
influenced the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth
centuries.
Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state – Communism.
These stages started with Feudalism – with the aristocrats controlling politics. Next would come
Capitalism – with the bourgeoisie in control of politics. Finally the "perfect state" would arrive

The idea of the paper was to establish it as the leading underground revolutionary paper that would
push forward the revolutionary movement.
In 1902 he published a pamphlet called " What is to be done?" This pamphlet contained his radical
ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that
Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party.
"An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is
revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as
possible."
This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and
do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This
idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP.
Lenin also stated;
"The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy,
strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries."
Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn't want the country to know that there was a
revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government.
The third major point that Lenin made in his pamphlet was;
"We must break completely with the tradition of a purely workers or

Leon Trotsky
Trotsky was born Lev Davidovich Bronstein on November 7, 1879, in what is today known as
Ukraine. He was the fifth child of a wealthy farmer, David Leontyevich Bronstein, and Anna
Bronstein. The family was ethnically Jewish but not religious. At the age of nine, Trotsky was sent
to Odessa to attend school, and as Deutscher points out in his biography, 'Odessa was then a bustling
cosmopolitan port city, very unlike the typical Russian city of the time. This environment
contributed to the development of the young man's international outlook.' Trotsky was always
'quick–tempered, arrogant and a stubborn believer in intellectual solutions.' In 1896 Trotsky at the

Basically this was everything against what the tsarist state were now doing In January 1907, Trotsky
escaped Siberia and once again made his way to London, where he attended the 5th Congress of the
RSDLP. In October, he moved to Vienna where he often took part in the activities of the Austrian
Social Democratic Party and, occasionally, of the German Social Democratic Party, for seven years.
He started his own newspaper in 1908, the Pravda, but the distance from the Mensheviks and
Bolsheviks left him without any organizational anchor. Back in Russia the outbreak of WW1 tore
apart the second international as many of the social democratic parties lined up with their own ruling
classes. Trotsky attended the Zimmerwald Conference of anti–war socialists in September 1915 and
aimed for a middle course between those who, like Martov, would stay within the Second
International at any cost and those who, like Lenin, would break with the Second International and
form a Third International. The conference adopted the middle line proposed by Trotsky. Trotsky
draws up the Zimmerwald manifesto denouncing the war, which is the nucleus of the third
international. Trotsky moved to France on November 19, 1914, as a war correspondent for the
Kievskaya Mysl (radical Ukrainian newspaper). Trotsky was expelled from France as a 'suspect

3. Go over the new vocabulary the following lesson. It is very important for the students not to lose
touch with what comes as novel information. Assigning homework tasks where learners will
supposedly use the new words is not sufficient because not all of the learners do homework
regularly. Thus, the teacher should begin each new lesson with a small retrospection of what was
covered in class before and engage all the students in this activity, which can be turned into a game.
This technique is also known as "schemata activation". 4. Motivate students to spend more time
exposed to the target language. The best and the only way for learners to use vocabulary correctly is
to be exposed to the foreign language. Ideally, students would achieve the native–like pronunciation
and accuracy the best if they live in the target language country. Yet, we know that this situation is
not always possible, so we as future teachers should inform students of the all the possibilities that
would easily enable them to get in touch with the foreign language. Apart from watching movies
and reading books, one very useful activity is to transcribe TV news on paper and present them in
class. By doing this, students encounter many new words in their real–life context and by presenting
them, they will memorize the words better. Another possible option is to change the language option

Russia Greek History
Russia has a long and intricate history since it was first settled until today. In the ninth century AD,
the Vikings began to settle what is now Russia. They used trade along the rivers to get the resources
they needed to flourish. The rivers made travel easy between the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea. A
popular spot for trade was Lake Llmen, which is the headwater for the Dnieper, Dvina, and Volga
Rivers, which all flow into the Baltic and Black Sea. Some of the main resources traded were gold,
fruit, fine wine, waxes, honey, horses, and slaves. These goods were carried by ferries along the
rivers. In 988, the Viking ruler Vladamir began Christian and chose Greek Orthodox for the religion
of Russia.

Women Should Be Allowed In Military Combat
During the Revolutionary War, a soldier once removed a musket ball from their own body. The
fighter had cut it out from their thigh. This soldier was a woman. She had to undergo that task
because the medical treatment would reveal that she was a woman, which would stop her from
fighting. (Ms. Hamilton). There have been many issues that had been discussed to allow women into
military combat. Even though men may feel uncomfortable with sharing their jobs, women should
be allowed in military combat because they have the skills to and they help to make it a more
effective military work force.
The percentage of women working for the military today is very low. This percentage, 15% has been
about the same since 2000 (Iskra). The total number of women ... Show more content on

The more complete integration of women into men's jobs will make an more effective force by
introducing more diverse viewpoints (Castenfelt). "In Iraqi, female troops have proven useful at
gaining the trust of Iraqi women and children in which male soldiers have failed," (Leslie). In the
current volunteer force, everyone is given options... and that is why supporters of women's increased
participation in the military insist that "those who are willing, and can do the job, should be able to
compete for those jobs, and they should be based on those criteria, not gender," (Iskra). Our nation
has embedded in our culture that women should be shielded from great physical risks. (Leed).
Women should be allowed to get any job as long as they meet the standards and their gender should
not hold them back.
The fear that unit cohesion, critical to military performance, would suffer with the introduction of
women (Leed). Women shouldn't be discriminated on their gender, some women are more skilled
than their male peers. Taonga R. Leslie, one of the authors of the Harvard Crimson, said that, "
Many American women who possess the strength and skills to perform at or above the level of many
male peers." This helps to show that even researchers of this topic believe that women have enough
skills to surpass the skills of many men in that particular work

How Did The Russian Marxism Movement Evolve In The Period
How did the Russian Marxism movement evolve in the period 1880–1905?

Marxism was a social movement that aimed to overcome all forms of domination and exploitation.
Roots of Marxism were drawn from the three main sources: German idealist philosophy, British
political economy, and French socialism. Adopting ideas of German philosophers such as Kant and
Hegel, Marx took a deeper look into the nature of social reality. He researched how social interest,
which was expressed in mode of thinking and following actions, connected to real day–to–day life
of people. According to Marx, human history was defined by class struggle which was caused by
antagonism between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the revolt was crashed by Nicholas I, and police control became even tougher, spreading
progressive ideas among educated intellectually advances people of the time was the main
consequence of Decembrist uprising. Post–selfdom period featured the emergence of critical–
minded and enlightened young intellectuals, and who were willing to devote their lives to the
transformation of the society. Learning from Decembrists' failure, they considered the necessity of
cooperation with the peasantry. However, the idea of creating the system of village communal land
ownership was meaningless for the peasants, who were still loyal to the Tsar and saw him as father
of people. The attempt to initiate a peasant self–awakening by "going to people" ended in bitter
disappointment. Peasant conservatism and government prosecution drove the Narodniki to
underground activity. With industrial development and emergence of urban proletariat in the 1880s,
the populists' attention shifted to workers. Among those who supported a socialist propaganda was
Georgi Plekhanov who is considered a "father" of Russian Marxism.
The foundation of Group for the Liberty of Labour in Geneva (1883) manifested the beginning of
Russian Marxist movement. It was developing in the interaction with socialist movements in other

Why Women Join Infantry Branches Of The Military
Why Women Joining Infantry Branches of the Military is more Problematic than Beneficial.
The Department of Defense lifted all existing restrictions that were gender oriented that blocked
women from joining services such as the infantry. According to Tilghman (2), this historic change
clears the way for women to serve alongside their male counterparts in combat arms units. The
decision was lauded as one that sought to enable the military to harness the perspectives and skills
that talented women have to officer better. The move has widely been seen as being one seeking
political correctness and application of activism in a sensitive area of military operations. The
infantry of the United States Army is its oldest and most important combat arm. The primary goal of
the infantry is to close with the enemy, to destroy or capture them. Infantry units do not fight alone
but are also supported by other arms and services of the army such as the Marine Corps, the air
force, and the navy. The ideal profile of an infantryman is someone who is a good combat soldier,
one who fights on foot using ammunition and other weapons that he or she carriers, use armored
vehicles when a situation demands among other weapons.
According to Szayna (21) joining the infantry traditionally was reserved for men. All branches of the
army have different standards for males and females. The reason is that women would not qualify to
join the military if there were not separate standards for them. The argument

suffering disease, solitary confinement, sub–zero temperatures and poor conditions, he readily

Leon Trotsky: A Great Man
A great man is defined by the manner in which he lived, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Throughout history, many men have been labelled as great, these include the likes of Dwight
Eisenhower, Napoleon Bonaparte, John F. Kennedy and many more. The one thing these men all left
behind was a great legacy, and a motivation for others to achieve greatness just like themselves.
Robert Green Ingersoll's famous quote "In order to appreciate a great man [...] we must understand
the scope of the drama in which he played – the part he acted – and we must also know his
audience" relates heavily to that of the life of Lev Davidovich Bronstein, most commonly known as
Leon Trotsky. Leon Trotsky's status as a 'Great Man' is without doubt, in question. The debate to

Lev was only one of five other sons, all of which were not practising Jews. At the age of just nine,
Lev's family sent him to Odessa to begin his studies, as finding a school that accepted those of
Jewish faith was hard to come by, and many children had to travel large distances to find an
education. Trotsky later stated, "My childhood does not appear to me like a sunny meadow, as it
does to the small minority; neither does it appear like a dark cave of hunger, violence and misery, as
it does to the majority", suggesting that he lived a very ordinary childhood that was no different to
that of most people his age. Although holding very little significance, it is important to recognise the
upbringing and lifestyle of Leon Trotsky at a young age to distinguish what moulded him into the
revolutionary he was to become. It was this transition into the world of academics and education
that would lead Leon Trotsky to find his strong political interest and his passion for revolutionary
actions. Every great man has a beginning, and these are the roots of Leon Trotsky's status as a great

As the new Global Responsibility Director for Molson Coors, my objective is uncomplicated–to
build upon what founder John Molson believed. Molson believed that everyone is a members of a
larger community dependent on the idea where everyone played a part (Molson Coors, n.d.). This
sentiment speaks directly toward corporate social responsibility (CSR). Defining CSR is a hard task.
CSR could be non–governmental organization engagement, or a focus on charitable donations, and

When corporate responsibility strategies were first defined, the company 's performance was
benchmarked against global standards (Molson Coors, n.d.). The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
was one such standard, as it "promotes the use of sustainability reporting as a way for organizations
to become more sustainable and contribute to sustainable development" (Global Reporting
Initiative, n.d., para. 1). In 2009, the company was rated by the Pacific Sustainability Index (PSI)
among the top 10 among beverage companies for its sustainability activities (Molson Coors (a),

The Fundamental Causes of the Russian Revolution Essay
The Fundamental Causes of the Russian Revolution
The fundamental causes of the Russian Revolution were the direct consequence of a dreadfully long
period of suppression of the Russian people combined with a prolonged instability of the Russian
government. For centuries, czarist regimes forced their strict demands upon the populace by
exerting their unilateral power, with no moral consideration for human life or freedom. At the same
time, to maintain its status as a great power, the Tsar promoted higher education. The result was
perpetual tension between government and society, especially its educated element, known as
"intelligentsia."

The working conditions for the factory workforce was unsafe because there were no safety
regulations. The hours were very long and the living quarters were overcrowded and deplorable with
no sanitary facilities. Democratic Socialism was now favored by the majority of the people who
wanted control over their own production in the factories.
The concept of Marxism was recognized by the Russians as early as 1980. The first Marxist group
was formed by Georgi Valentinovich Plekhanov, known as the "Father of Russian Marxism" in
1883. In the late 1800s, one of Plekhanov's most passionate supporters was Vladimir Lenin. Lenin
admired Plekhanov as the founder of Russian Marxism and strove to master the revolutionary
activity and party building Plekhanov had begun. In 1900, when Lenin founded Iskra, Plekhanov
wrote for the paper, and jointly, they supported proletarian revolution backed by Marxist theory.
Lenin formed another Marxist party, known as the Russian Social Democratic Party. In August
1903, the Social Democratic Party held a party in congress in London. This congress was significant
not only because the entirety of the Russian socialist groups attended, but also because it marked the
point of departure for the vital split among the Social Democrats into the Bolsheviks and the
Mensheviks. Both the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks were in agreement with their decision to

Lenin
One of the great political leaders of the 20th century, Vladimir Lenin, made a huge impact on the
world. He was revolutionary, and whether you love him or hate him, he was a man with ambition.
He was the founder of the Soviet Union and formed the country that sparked an intense rivalry with
the United States and put a new form of government into place. This was a man with ambition to get
rid of capitalism and change the ways of Russia. From his birth, to his career, and up until the day he
died, Vladimir Lenin had a very interesting life, and was one of the great political leaders of the 20th
century. Vladimir Lenin gave birth to a new Russia that would be the state the country was in for
years to come. He gave birth to the superpower of the Soviet Union. Vladimir Lenin was born in
Simbirsk, Russia in the year of 1870. The name given to him at birth was not actually Vladimir
Lenin, instead, he was given the name Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov. It was later in life that he changed his
name to what he is known as today. Vladimir and the rest of the Ulyanovs lived in a small house on
the edge of town. Vladimir was the a middle child, third born of six children, within the Ulyanov

(and males) apart from the confidence we all should have. Most girls in their teenage years struggle

However, most girls do not know how to reach their comfort zone when it comes to their

accepting themselves and leave them wanting what they do not have. It is true that ads for things
like Victoria's Secret, prom dresses and other ads can subconsciously ruin a teenager's mind. Models

The Assassination of Leon Trotsky
During the power struggle in Russia, an escaped prisoner of the name Lev Bronstein, was murdered

Russia Notes as/A2 1881-1914
Russian History 1881 – 1914
What was Russia like in 1881?
82% of the population were illiterate peasant farmers. No technology was used on farms –
subsistence farming. Largest standing army in Europe. No political parties and the press was heavily
censored. Fierce loyalty to the Tsar – often enforced by brutal secret police. Royalty owned most of
the land – Tsar's estate was larger than some countries. 1861 – Tsar Alexander II freed serfs but
peasants still tied to land. Aristocracy could no longer buy/sell peasants and they could freely marry.
Government loans given to peasants to buy land – 49 year loans. Aristocracy still owned two thirds

5 million Jews were blamed for Russia's problems and some joined revolutionary groups.
Russification – an attempt by Alexander III's govt to restrict the influence of national minorities
within the Russian Empire. Russian was declared the official language. State interference in
education, administration and religion increased. Nationalities that suffered particularly from
discrimination were Ukrainians, Poles, Armenians and Finns.
Nicholas II (1894–1917)
Nicholas II became Tsar of Russia and Grand Duke of Poland and Finland in 1894 aged 26. He
shared his father's commitment to preserving autocracy and continued many of his repressive
policies. His powers were absolute and he ruled by divine right. Nicholas could overrule any
legislation orally making it difficult for anybody to reform Russia. His nature was not suited to
being Tsar and he allowed himself to be influenced by the Tsarina, Pobedonostov and various
ministers – most famously Rasputin. Russia was not as stable under Nicholas II as it could have
been in the late 19th century – a strong monarch creates a strong country. Russia's Great Power
status was based upon the size of its empire and strength of its army by 1881 – not the strength of its
Tsar. By the time Nicholas reigned Russia was behind the other Great Powers economically, socially
and politically. Its government was incompetent, inefficient and

Use Of The Urban Setting Of A City
Countless references, often poetic and historic, have framed the complexity of the urban setting and
astute urban observers; a review of quotations about perceiving the city help prime the eye, pen or
camera towards their observational purpose. Author Luc Sante described the observational acumen
of the Parisian flaneur as, inter alia, "everything too subjective for professionals to credit", Jacques
Yonnet, as a journalist–in–hiding, who chronicled street life in occupied Paris during World War II,
suggested the dangers of quick judgment about the essence of a city:
To get to the heart of a city, to learn its most subtle secrets, takes infinite tenderness, and patience
sometimes to the point of despair. It calls for an artlessly delicate ... Show more content on

What we see, do and say about the city is ambiguous, and does not easily unravel simply, or
logically. As another developer said to me, it is important to rediscover the lost art of simply telling
stories, something I wholeheartedly embrace, with visual elaboration.
One prior collection of essays, In the Life of Cities, well illustrates this dilemma through photo
collections interspersed among scholarly prose. The reader can tour, for instance, aspects of the
familiar Paris, Chicago and Tokyo and the less known Tirana, Baku and Dakar, and learn (from both
text and photo–essays), about history of their formation, and current challenges of design,
administration and reuse. For the average American with passing, or even committed interest in
improving urban space, it is an overwhelming, yet breathtaking ride.
The Editor, Mohsen Mostafavi, and many of his Harvard–based colleagues (and others from around
the world) leave behind universals that raise more questions than provide pragmatic answers. As
Mostafavi summarizes the innovative breadth of expression, both verbal and photographic,
interspersed in the book:
The variety and range of the photographic essays, from urban ruins to public spaces, and from
ground surfaces to mass housing, show the beauty and complexity of what lies ahead. The 'life of
the city' can be reduced neither to the rational functionality of the modern city nor the nostalgic

What Happened In The Russian Revolution Essay
What– exactly– happened in the Russian Revolution?
http://www.history.com/topics/russian–revolution
The Bolsheviks were a faction of the Russian socialist movement that emerged in 1904 after a
dispute in the Russian Social–Democratic Labour Party between Vladimir Lenin and Julius Martov,
leading to the party splitting into two factions, one being the Mensheviks (Russian for "The
Minority") and the other being the Bolsheviks (Russian for "The Majority"). Lenin wanted a strict
system where power would only be given to the government. Martov disagreed, and wanted the
government to give power to ordinary people.
Lenin's older brother was executed for joining a socialist revolution cell, and trying to create a bomb
to kill the tsar.

The economy was in shambles because of the cost of war. Military wise, Imperial Russia was no
match for Industrialized Germany. Russia sustained more casualties than any other country in
history. Finally, people began protesting. On March 7, 1917, workers at Putilov, Petrograd's largest
industrial plant went on strike due to their displeasure with the government. On March 8,
international women's day, several people, a majority of them women, began protesting in want of
more bread, which was becoming less and less common, due to rationing. Several bakeries had
already closed. By March 10, over 200,000 protesters were on the streets, calling for the end of the
war and overthrowing of the Tsar, and almost every industrial enterprise was shut down. The Tsar, in
response, released 180,000 troops to deplete the crowd. However, most were either partially trained
recruits or older working class reserves from the Petrograd area. There was a serious shortage of
officers amongst the reserve battalions of the Imperial Guard which made up the bulk of the troops
and the morale and discipline of these units was low. Historians suggest around 12,000 of the
soldiers could be regarded as reliable, but even these proved reluctant to fire on the demonstrators,
both out of fellow feeling and because the crowds included so many

The Eight Crisis Stages Of Erik Erikson Development Theory
A "theory" is defined by "an interrelated, coherent set of ideas that help to explain phenomena and
facilitate predictions." With development "the series of age–related changes that happen over the
course of a life span which theorist observe these developments as a series of stages during which
individuals displays qualities of behavior patterns." There are five theoretical orientation to
development such as "psychoanalytic, cognitive, behavioral and social cognitive, ethological, and
ecological." It is a fact that these developmental theories don't typically agree with one another so
for the purpose of this research I will focus on four of the eight crisis stages of Erik Erikson
development theory and a psychosocial theorists and Lev Vygotsky development theory as a
sociocultural theorist focusing on the concept of "zone of proximal development and scaffolding."
Both although from different times in history shared similar ideas in terms of child development.
Psychologist Erik Erikson was born in Frankfurt Germany on June 15th of 1902 and died in
Harwich Massachusetts on May 12th 1994 as one of the more influential figures in child
developmental theories. Mister Erikson was heavily influenced by the work of the "famous
psychoanalytic theorist Sigmund Freud" however influence did not stop him from the belief that
Freud 's theory misjudged important dimensions of the human development (Santrock, 2012).

Discrimination And Body Acceptance In Society. “Why Are
Discrimination and Body Acceptance in Society "Why are so many people discriminative against
other people's bodies?" (Kelli Jean Drinkwater) Why is it anyone's business how others choose to
live their lives and how they look? One of the most pervasive and yet ignored discriminations in our
society is due to weight, size and body image. As a society, we should be respecting one another as
individuals instead of judging each other superficially. Keyboard Commandos on social media sites

Schummer, and Selden, H.) All people have body images, and they stress about if and how much
they will fit in with what's considered "normal," "acceptable," or "attractive" based on how they feel
about themselves or how others react when they see them. Anna Lavis states that "As a person
grows and especially when they hit their adolescent years, body image becomes a huge part of their
self–esteem and self–image." ( Eli, K., and Ulijaszek, S.) This is where discrimination comes in,
because of social media like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and others that provide us the
anonymity to judge one another. Human Diseases and Conditions says that "Nowadays there is too
much focus on physical appearance that it is causing body image problems, and that women and
young girls are especially affected by this as they are constantly bombarded with images of how
they "should" look. (Batten, P. Schummer, and Selden, H.) "It has been argued that within a
patriarchal society, women have been traditionally disempowered due to the physical 'inferiority' of
the female body." (Whitehead, K., & Kurz, T.) People with average bodies look at movie stars,
internet "celebrities", and models in magazines and then think of themselves as "fat" compared to
the images they see. This is leading to a large number of young people embracing the cult–like
"religion" of participating in anorexic and bulimic habits while their bodies are still growing.

Power Struggle of Russia
After WW1, There was a power struggle for the leader of Russia. High level government workers
Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky fought for the throne after the untimely death of Vladimir Lenin.
1Joseph Stalin was born on December 18, 1878. His given name is Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili
or Ио́сиф Виссарио́нович Ста́лин in Russian. He was born in what would now be Georgia in a
place called Gori, Tiflis Governerate, Russian Empire. Stalin's family lived in poverty all throughout
his childhood. His father worked as a cobbler mending shoes and his mother was a maid. He was
very violent towards his son and was an avid alcoholic. The family's home was a small shack off of
a dirt road. They had a serious problem with the home constantly being wet with sewage. Stalin had
many issues with disease as a child. First he caught smallpox at the age of seven. As a result of the
smallpox, scars were left on his face. This would become an area of embarrassment for Stalin
throughout his childhood. Stalin also caught blood poisoning as a child. This was a result of one of
the brutal beatings his father gave him while drunk. Because of this one of his arms became
deformed and stopped growing causing him to lose use of the hand. Because of the intense beatings
Stalins father gave him, he began to hate him. One Stalin became old enough he tried to fight back
so his father would not beat his mother. Stalin received education at his local church school because

Leon Trotsky, originally known as Lev Davidovich Bronstein, was born November 7th in the year
1879. Born to a Jewish–Russian family of wealthy but illiterate farmers, he was sent to school in
Odessa by age nine. Although he was enrolled in a German school, during his studies there the
school was "Russified" during the Imperial Government's policy of Russification. The environment
of the town of Odessa contributed greatly to the development of Trotsky's revolutionary ideas and
his international outlook. Later on in his life, by 1896, he quickly became involved in revolutionary
activities after moving to the harbor town of Nkdayev. As a narodnik, also known as a revolutionary

Later on, even after almost all members of his opposition had denounced themselves, he refused to
separate himself from the movement so he was exiled officially in 1929. Although he was no longer
apart of the society, he continued to oppose the Stalinist bureaucracy, even writing books about the
topic. This very act, although brave, paid the ultimate price, when Spanish–born Soviet agent
Ramon Mercader attacked Trotsky in his study. Even though Trotsky put up a valiant fight, he later
succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on August the 20th of 1940. The legacy of Leon Trotsky is
composed of the branch of Marxism known and Trotskyism, a strong opposition of Stalinism, and
his political discourse to this day. Lastly, it's important to note that although his books are now
allowed to be sold in Russia, he was one of the few Soviet political figures who were not

I. Dzhugashvili and Bronstein
Joseph Stalin, born Dzhugashvili, and Leon Trotsky, born Bronstein, were the same age, and both
had been from early youth members of the Russian Social Democratic party. As dedicated
Communists, they had common basic outlook: they were philosophical materialists, committed to
the unity of theory and practice and bent upon spreading Communism throughout the whole world.
While Lenin was alive (at any rate until 1922) both men had a secure place in his favor and
therefore in the party as a whole. Since 1917, at least, Trotsky had supported Lenin on the main
issues and seemed to have more of his candor and flexibility than Stalin. However, as ... Show more

Young Joseph joined a Marxist society known as Mesame–Dasi while a student at the seminary, but
it is not clear whether this had anything to do with his expulsion in 1899. During the next two years
his Marxism crystallized, and his first Marxist essays appeared in a Georgian newspaper in 1901. At
that time he was already an enthusiastic defender of Lenin and the other orthodox Marxist exiles
who published the newspaper Iskra. His literary style was not then distinguished; in fact, it never got
much better.
Stalin was active in the revolutionary movement in Tiflis, Batum, and elsewhere, not as
Dzhugashvili, nor yet "Stalin," but as "Koba." This meant something like "courageous" in Turkish,
and it was also the name of a labeled Georgian freebooter. It is uncertain which the nickname first
signified. Later he was called, indeed, practically dubbed himself, the "Lenin of the Cauccasus."
However, he was not necessarily the most outstanding leader of the Caucasian Social Democrats,
nor even of the Georgian Bolsheviks after the party split in 1903. The great majority of the Marxists
in Georgia became and stayed Menshevik. Among the Bolsheviks Stalin was prominent, but that did
not mean a great deal. Very soon after the news of the London Congress of 1903 reached the
Caucasus, he took a firmly pro–Bolshevik stand, and he continued to

How Did Lenin Come To Power
History:
Civil rights project
Section A: Background
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was born on the 22nd of April,1870. Imperial Russia at the time was still an
absolute autocracy ruled by the Tsar and Tsarina. Lenin was born into a well educated family, and
lived a relatively comfortable life when compared to the average Russian peasant. Lenin was
exposed to the harshness of life under the Tsar from a very early age, and quickly learned to despise
the bourgeoisie. He decided that something was inherently wrong with the rich exploiting the
numerous poor to fund their extravagant lifestyles, when the proletariat could barely feed
themselves. Lenin's father occupied the prestigious position of Director of Public schools for the

He hadn't been to Russia for 17 years. When Lenin heard that a revolution had begun, he raced to
return to Russia, striking a deal with the Triple alliance to enable him safe passage through Russia's
enemy, Germany, on the condition that, when Lenin acquired power, he would remove Russia from
the war, freeing up valuable German resources to fight the Entente. This highlights just how
desperate Lenin was to return to Russia quickly, lest someone else seize power that, quoting Lenin,
"...Was lying in the gutter, just waiting to be acquired" It also struck many conservatives and
revolutionaries alike as being strange that Lenin would only return to Russia when he felt that no
threat opposed him – which one can imagine would sound hypocritical coming from a man who
encouraged revolutionaries to be prepared to die for the cause. Further exacerbating the above
mentioned point, when he arrived at Petrograd (St Petersburg) train station, the guards of honour
were at the platform to greet him. Lenin was confused and said to his wife, "They will arrest me!"
However, when Lenin realised there was no danger he gave a passionate speech right at the station:
"Hail to the Global Socialist Revolution!" he declared. The terms he offered met opposition even
within the circle of his supporters. His old–time ally Georgy Plekhanov called his idea "crazy" and
was sure it would spread anarchy throughout Russia. His grave prediction was not far from reality
but Lenin's plan was nonetheless met with an ovation by the people who made the revolution
happen – the proletariat. His popularity was based on sheer populism but it worked perfectly for the
angry crowds ready for action. They heard exactly what they wanted – and what they had been
denied for so long –"Power to people! Power to Soviets!" The overthrow of Tsarism was only the
first step Lenin was preparing for the big battle

Negative Effects Of Low Self Esteem
Currently, a significant amount of individuals with low self–esteem in the world. Each day this
number increases because of the discouragement of uniqueness. Doctor Joe Rubino stated, "85% of
the world's population is affected by low self–esteem." Recently, the media, Adobe Photoshop, and
professional modeling have become prevalent in lives. These negative sources are the significant
causes of this growing low self–esteem. Social media, magazines, the internet, and television shows
advertise specific flawless qualities. This behavior sabotages any courage to express as unique
individuals. People are greatly depending on the media to identify what appearances are superior.
The major problem with relying on the media is sending negative messages. Instead of identifying
perks, the media is averting their attention to a person's flaws. Flaws are unnatural according to the
media. Yet, it will state that everyone should feel confident. Media sources should have no role in
how one lives. It is promoting confidence but is lowering it at the same time. The media expressing
that people aren't suitable enough is spreading hatred. This hatred is leading to low self–esteem.
Despite the media's beliefs, individuals are unique and thus beautiful despite their flaws.
Furthermore, any magazine cover likely has a person with a perfect body on the cover. Although the
usage of Photoshop in the past to crop images or retouch the color, it has progressed into altering
facial and body features

When speaking about al–Qaeda, this paper refers to an organization with numerous affiliates that
promotes a global terrorist interpretation of jihad and thus inspires a movement of followers via the

persons who hold up its principles and doctrines. An intermediate control level of al–Qaeda and

However, there are countless other actors who exert influence on jihadism online. Thus, it is

One cannot assume an absolute division between the virtual and physical worlds. With the

Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and...
Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and
abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme leader
of the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest office of the
politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party machine and
exploit its members–talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these reasons the
statement is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky's failure to rise to the 'highest
office in the land' was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to turn success
into political capital.
This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar for
War prove that Trotsky was most definitely 'the most able of men'. According to Service, Trotsky as
Commissar for War 'surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and ruthlessness as he
transformed the Red Army into a fighting force'. During his role as commissar Trotsky was able to
increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced conscription, maintained obedience
and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and the death penalty for deserters and used
ex–Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army. Trotsky's ability to successfully
transform the Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil War are largely the reason for the
Bolshevik victory and further highlight that Trotsky 'was the most able of men'.
However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he lack
political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus.
Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His
arrogance, condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the
politburo. If in an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead.
Lenin himself raised concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament
writing that "he is perhaps the most capable

an armed rebellion. He was excited to Siberia for life, but escaped to Finland, continuing to

Trotsky's Success During The Stalinist Era
To a certain extent, Trotsky demonstrated throughout his life and career his ability to use
opportunities provided by history to shine. His talents as an orator, writer, propagandist and military

frequently unable to seize valuable opportunities to excel due to his use of terror, limited support
base and inflexible ideology and was additionally largely overlooked for his moments of excellence

During the Stalinist era, Stalin's production of propaganda portrayed Trotsky as a cynical
opportunist and the enemy of the Bolshevik party. He was airbrushed out of photos in which he
appeared alongside Lenin and his role in significant events was removed. Instead, Stalin's role in
such events was magnified. In the 1920s the "Short Course on the History of the Communist Party
of the Soviet Union" was a compulsory textbook in high schools despite its major flaws in historical
accuracy. Initially, it portrayed Trotsky as motivated only for his own political gain, however, in the
1930s it was further edited to emphasise that he sought to destroy the Bolshevik party from within.
Despite being the Commissar for War during the Civil War, Trotsky's name does not appear once in
the entire chapter on the Civil War. As a result of incorrect historical information, Russians
mistakenly discredited Trotsky from moments of excellence in his career. Moreover, they knew for
their own wellbeing not to question the official version of history. It has thus been argued that
Stalin's rewriting of history portrayed an inaccurate depiction of Trotsky's role in history and hence

Mermaid thighs are a good trend on social media because it creates confidence, body positivity, and acceptance for how your body looks. After this recent trend called Mermaid thighs, it has changed the way I look at myself. Mermaid thigh is a new trend uplifting body image of women whose thighs touch. Why would this be important you say? Well, around 2014 a new trend called "Thigh Gap" took the social media world by storm! Everybody wanted the Thigh Gap, there wasn't a day you didn't see an image of it. • 5. Effects Of Plus Size In Fashion In 2012, Tess Holliday pioneered the hashtag, "effyourbeautystandards" on Twitter. She started the trending phrase to share her frustration over the fashion industry generally only portraying a certain body type. Fast forward to 2017 and Holliday, who was discovered as a plus–size model on Instagram, can be found gracing the pages of Vogue Italia, as well as other plus–size models like Ashley Graham, Vogue's first plus–size cover girl. Seven years is relatively short time for plus–size people to push their way to the front of the fashion industry and it's all because of one little thing– social media. The first thing to address is the term plus–size. The fashion industry infamously begins tacking on the plus at size 8. According to the CDC, in 2014 the average women's waist size was 38.1 inches, which is generally a 16 in U.S. sizes. This means that the average U.S. woman looks a lot different than the size 8 the industry dubs as plus–size, not to mention the size 4–6 that is average for high fashion/editorial models, according to modelmanagement.com. Popular "plus–size" models like Ashley Graham, a size 16, and Iskra Lawrence, a size 14, are actually portraying the average American female. Tess Holiday, size 26 and Rebel Wilson, the Pitch Perfect actress who wears a size 24, are plus–size models above the average size. The confusion surrounding the term plus–size is just another thing that frustrates consumers. This disconnect between fashion and the average consumer is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lenin's Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His views became known as Marxism and influenced the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state – Communism. These stages started with Feudalism – with the aristocrats controlling politics. Next would come Capitalism – with the bourgeoisie in control of politics. Finally the "perfect state" would arrive Communism – with the proletariat in control of politics. Marx ... In 1902 he published a pamphlet called " What is to be done?" This pamphlet contained his radical ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party. "An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as possible." This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP. Lenin also stated; "The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy, strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries." Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn't want the country to know that there was a revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government.

  • 10. Leon Trotsky Trotsky was born Lev Davidovich Bronstein on November 7, 1879, in what is today known as Ukraine. He was the fifth child of a wealthy farmer, David Leontyevich Bronstein, and Anna Bronstein. The family was ethnically Jewish but not religious. At the age of nine, Trotsky was sent to Odessa to attend school, and as Deutscher points out in his biography, 'Odessa was then a bustling cosmopolitan port city, very unlike the typical Russian city of the time. This environment contributed to the development of the young man's international outlook.' Trotsky was always 'quick–tempered, arrogant and a stubborn believer in intellectual solutions.' Basically this was everything against what the tsarist state were now doing In January 1907, Trotsky escaped Siberia and once again made his way to London, where he attended the 5th Congress of the RSDLP. In October, he moved to Vienna where he often took part in the activities of the Austrian Social Democratic Party and, occasionally, of the German Social Democratic Party, for seven years. He started his own newspaper in 1908, the Pravda, but the distance from the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks left him without any organizational anchor. Back in Russia the outbreak of WW1 tore apart the second international as many of the social democratic parties lined up with their own ruling classes. Trotsky attended the Zimmerwald Conference of anti–war socialists in September 1915 and aimed for a middle course between those who, like Martov, would stay within the Second International at any cost and those who, like Lenin, would break with the Second International and form a Third International. The conference adopted the middle line proposed by Trotsky. Trotsky draws up the Zimmerwald manifesto denouncing the war, which is the nucleus of the third international. Trotsky moved to France on November 19, 1914, as a war correspondent for the Kievskaya Mysl (radical Ukrainian newspaper). It is very important for the students not to lose touch with what comes as novel information. Assigning homework tasks where learners will supposedly use the new words is not sufficient because not all of the learners do homework regularly. Thus, the teacher should begin each new lesson with a small retrospection of what was covered in class before and engage all the students in this activity, which can be turned into a game. This technique is also known as "schemata activation". 4. Motivate students to spend more time exposed to the target language. The best and the only way for learners to use vocabulary correctly is to be exposed to the foreign language. Ideally, students would achieve the native–like pronunciation and accuracy the best if they live in the target language country. Yet, we know that this situation is not always possible, so we as future teachers should inform students of the all the possibilities that would easily enable them to get in touch with the foreign language. Apart from watching movies and reading books, one very useful activity is to transcribe TV news on paper and present them in class. By doing this, students encounter many new words in their real–life context and by presenting them, they will memorize the words better. Another possible option is to change the language option of the social networks such Facebook, Twitter or their Google accounts in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Women Should Be Allowed In Military Combat During the Revolutionary War, a soldier once removed a musket ball from their own body. The fighter had cut it out from their thigh. This soldier was a woman. She had to undergo that task because the medical treatment would reveal that she was a woman, which would stop her from fighting. (Ms. Hamilton). There have been many issues that had been discussed to allow women into military combat. Even though men may feel uncomfortable with sharing their jobs, women should be allowed in military combat because they have the skills to and they help to make it a more effective military work force. The percentage of women working for the military today is very low. This percentage, 15% has been about the same since 2000 (Iskra). The total number of women ... "In Iraqi, female troops have proven useful at gaining the trust of Iraqi women and children in which male soldiers have failed," (Leslie). In the current volunteer force, everyone is given options... and that is why supporters of women's increased participation in the military insist that "those who are willing, and can do the job, should be able to compete for those jobs, and they should be based on those criteria, not gender," (Iskra). Our nation has embedded in our culture that women should be shielded from great physical risks. (Leed). Women should be allowed to get any job as long as they meet the standards and their gender should not hold them back. The fear that unit cohesion, critical to military performance, would suffer with the introduction of women (Leed). Women shouldn't be discriminated on their gender, some women are more skilled than their male peers. Taonga R. Leslie, one of the authors of the Harvard Crimson, said that, " Many American women who possess the strength and skills to perform at or above the level of many male peers." Alexandra Los HIS2501Y TA: Natalia Zajac February 1, 2017 Marxism was a social movement that aimed to overcome all forms of domination and exploitation. Roots of Marxism were drawn from the three main sources: German idealist philosophy, British political economy, and French socialism. Adopting ideas of German philosophers such as Kant and Hegel, Marx took a deeper look into the nature of social reality. He researched how social interest, which was expressed in mode of thinking and following actions, connected to real day–to–day life of people. Although the revolt was crashed by Nicholas I, and police control became even tougher, spreading progressive ideas among educated intellectually advances people of the time was the main consequence of Decembrist uprising. Post–selfdom period featured the emergence of critical– minded and enlightened young intellectuals, and who were willing to devote their lives to the transformation of the society. Learning from Decembrists' failure, they considered the necessity of cooperation with the peasantry. However, the idea of creating the system of village communal land ownership was meaningless for the peasants, who were still loyal to the Tsar and saw him as father of people. The attempt to initiate a peasant self–awakening by "going to people" ended in bitter disappointment. Peasant conservatism and government prosecution drove the Narodniki to underground activity. With industrial development and emergence of urban proletariat in the 1880s, the populists' attention shifted to workers. Among those who supported a socialist propaganda was Georgi Plekhanov who is considered a "father" of Russian Marxism. • 20. Why Women Join Infantry Branches Of The Military Why Women Joining Infantry Branches of the Military is more Problematic than Beneficial. The Department of Defense lifted all existing restrictions that were gender oriented that blocked women from joining services such as the infantry. According to Tilghman (2), this historic change clears the way for women to serve alongside their male counterparts in combat arms units. The decision was lauded as one that sought to enable the military to harness the perspectives and skills that talented women have to officer better. The move has widely been seen as being one seeking political correctness and application of activism in a sensitive area of military operations. The infantry of the United States Army is its oldest and most important combat arm. The primary goal of the infantry is to close with the enemy, to destroy or capture them. Infantry units do not fight alone but are also supported by other arms and services of the army such as the Marine Corps, the air force, and the navy. The ideal profile of an infantryman is someone who is a good combat soldier, one who fights on foot using ammunition and other weapons that he or she carriers, use armored vehicles when a situation demands among other weapons. According to Szayna (21) joining the infantry traditionally was reserved for men. All branches of the army have different standards for males and females. The reason is that women would not qualify to join the military if there were not separate standards for them. The argument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Leon Trotsky Research Paper Leon Trotsky was born Lev Davidovich Bronstein in 1879 in Kherson, Ukraine. He excelled academically from a young age and in 1896 moved to Nikolayev to complete his last year of schooling. Here, he was introduced to the ideas of Karl Marx and joined "The Orchard Commune" in which he was able to discuss revolutionary ideas with fellow students. The following year, he helped found the South Russian Workers' Union. For the union's activities, its members were arrested in 1898, forcing Trotsky into prison for two years before being exiled to Siberia. Despite suffering disease, solitary confinement, sub–zero temperatures and poor conditions, he readily discussed politics with other prisoners and read books on politics and history. His joining of an underground network in Siberia allowed him to connect with political exiles and discuss revolutionary action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a powerful orator and skilful organiser, he inspired the support of the workers in the 1905 revolution, organising general strikes, a boycotting of taxes and the establishment of an eight–hour working day. • 24. Leon Trotsky: A Great Man A great man is defined by the manner in which he lived, and the legacy he leaves behind. Throughout history, many men have been labelled as great, these include the likes of Dwight Eisenhower, Napoleon Bonaparte, John F. Kennedy and many more. The one thing these men all left behind was a great legacy, and a motivation for others to achieve greatness just like themselves. Robert Green Ingersoll's famous quote "In order to appreciate a great man [...] we must understand the scope of the drama in which he played – the part he acted – and we must also know his audience" relates heavily to that of the life of Lev Davidovich Bronstein, most commonly known as Leon Trotsky. Lev was only one of five other sons, all of which were not practising Jews. At the age of just nine, Lev's family sent him to Odessa to begin his studies, as finding a school that accepted those of Jewish faith was hard to come by, and many children had to travel large distances to find an education. Trotsky later stated, "My childhood does not appear to me like a sunny meadow, as it does to the small minority; neither does it appear like a dark cave of hunger, violence and misery, as it does to the majority", suggesting that he lived a very ordinary childhood that was no different to that of most people his age. Although holding very little significance, it is important to recognise the upbringing and lifestyle of Leon Trotsky at a young age to distinguish what moulded him into the revolutionary he was to become. It was this transition into the world of academics and education that would lead Leon Trotsky to find his strong political interest and his passion for revolutionary actions. Molson believed that everyone is a members of a larger community dependent on the idea where everyone played a part (Molson Coors, n.d.). This sentiment speaks directly toward corporate social responsibility (CSR). Defining CSR is a hard task. A vision statement is the declaration of a company 's goals which identifies what the company wishes to achieve or accomplish, and it should be a singular, unified, and clearly explained to all employees so that the proper business strategies are developed to reach the goals (Hom, 2013). The company 's vision is deeply rooted in the idea of "Our Brew," the cultural compass which provides direction, definition and value (Molson Coors, n.d.). This value is seen from the top down. The Fundamental Causes of the Russian Revolution Essay The Fundamental Causes of the Russian Revolution The fundamental causes of the Russian Revolution were the direct consequence of a dreadfully long period of suppression of the Russian people combined with a prolonged instability of the Russian government. For centuries, czarist regimes forced their strict demands upon the populace by exerting their unilateral power, with no moral consideration for human life or freedom. At the same time, to maintain its status as a great power, the Tsar promoted higher education. The result was perpetual tension between government and society, especially its educated element, known as "intelligentsia." In the late 1800s, one of Plekhanov's most passionate supporters was Vladimir Lenin. Lenin admired Plekhanov as the founder of Russian Marxism and strove to master the revolutionary activity and party building Plekhanov had begun. In 1900, when Lenin founded Iskra, Plekhanov wrote for the paper, and jointly, they supported proletarian revolution backed by Marxist theory. Lenin formed another Marxist party, known as the Russian Social Democratic Party. In August 1903, the Social Democratic Party held a party in congress in London. This congress was significant not only because the entirety of the Russian socialist groups attended, but also because it marked the point of departure for the vital split among the Social Democrats into the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks. The reader can tour, for instance, aspects of the familiar Paris, Chicago and Tokyo and the less known Tirana, Baku and Dakar, and learn (from both text and photo–essays), about history of their formation, and current challenges of design, administration and reuse. • 58. How Did Lenin Come To Power History: Civil rights project Section A: Background Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was born on the 22nd of April,1870. Imperial Russia at the time was still an absolute autocracy ruled by the Tsar and Tsarina. Lenin was born into a well educated family, and lived a relatively comfortable life when compared to the average Russian peasant. Lenin was exposed to the harshness of life under the Tsar from a very early age, and quickly learned to despise the bourgeoisie. He decided that something was inherently wrong with the rich exploiting the numerous poor to fund their extravagant lifestyles, when the proletariat could barely feed themselves. When Lenin heard that a revolution had begun, he raced to return to Russia, striking a deal with the Triple alliance to enable him safe passage through Russia's enemy, Germany, on the condition that, when Lenin acquired power, he would remove Russia from the war, freeing up valuable German resources to fight the Entente. This highlights just how desperate Lenin was to return to Russia quickly, lest someone else seize power that, quoting Lenin, "...Was lying in the gutter, just waiting to be acquired" It also struck many conservatives and revolutionaries alike as being strange that Lenin would only return to Russia when he felt that no threat opposed him – which one can imagine would sound hypocritical coming from a man who encouraged revolutionaries to be prepared to die for the cause. Further exacerbating the above mentioned point, when he arrived at Petrograd (St Petersburg) train station, the guards of honour were at the platform to greet him. Lenin was confused and said to his wife, "They will arrest me!" However, when Lenin realised there was no danger he gave a passionate speech right at the station: "Hail to the Global Socialist Revolution!" he declared. The terms he offered met opposition even within the circle of his supporters. His old–time ally Georgy Plekhanov called his idea "crazy" and was sure it would spread anarchy throughout Russia. His grave prediction was not far from reality but Lenin's plan was nonetheless met with an ovation by the people who made the revolution happen – the proletariat. His popularity was based on sheer populism but it worked perfectly for the angry crowds ready for action. They heard exactly what they wanted – and what they had been denied for so long –"Power to people! Power to Soviets!" The overthrow of Tsarism was only the first step Lenin was preparing for the big battle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These circumstances, relationships and actions heavily influenced Zasulich. The book also makes us realize that Zasulich was a smart and devoted woman who acted in a way that was way ahead of her time. One shortcoming of the biography is that the author conveys a lack of in depth understanding of the various ideologies/ideas/different groups that she writes about, especially the nihilists, anarchists and socialists.
