The document discusses designing a bridge structure using Autodesk InfraWorks software. It begins with introducing bridges and their importance. It then states the problem that traditional bridge design is time-consuming and uneconomical. The objectives are to design a bridge using InfraWorks, obtain alignment, cross-section and quantity details. It describes the research methodology, literature review on previous studies, and utilization of InfraWorks for fast and effective bridge modeling. It provides a work plan and references several design codes and papers on bridge analysis.

4. Introduction
Bridges have been the most visible testimony to the contribution of engineers.
Bridges have always figured prominently in human history.
They enhance the vitalities of the cities and aid the social, cultural and economic
improvements of the locations around them.
Bridge is a structure providing passage over an obstacle without closing the way
beneath.
The required passage may be for a road, a railway, pedestrians, a canal or a pipeline
and the obstacle to be crossed may be a river, a road, railways or a valley.
The portion of the bridge structure below the level of the bearing and above the
founding level is generally referred to as the substructure.
The design of bridge substructure is an important part of the overall design for a
bridge and affects to a considerable extent the aesthetics, the safety and the
economy of the bridge.

5. Introduction
Bridge substructure are a very important part of a bridge as it safely transfers the
loads from the superstructure to the earth in such a manner that the stresses on the
soil are not excessive & the resulting deformations are within the acceptable limits.
The selection of the foundation system for a particular site depends on many
considerations, including the nature of subsoil, location where a bridge is proposed to
be constructed i.e. over a river, road, or a valley, etc.
A bridge may have either have the following types of foundations:
1. Well foundation: Well foundation is a type of deep foundation which is generally
provided below the water level for bridges.
2. Pile foundation: Pile foundations are deep foundations. They are formed by long,
slender, columnar elements typically made from steel or reinforced concrete, or
sometimes timber.

6. Introduction
In this study an attempt has been made to avoid those lengthy manual
calculations required for analysis of Super structure and the design of
substructure by using various software used by structural engineer for the
analysis and design of sub-structures for concrete bridges with simply supported
spans.

7. Pakistan is a developing country and most of the bridge construction project cost is
spent on surveying and levelling during.
The cost of survey is very high, furthermore there is a chance of human error in it.
The design of bridge can be done manually as well as through software.
The manual design of bridge is very time consuming and uneconomical.
The software based geometric design of a bridge can lead to an uneconomical as well
as time saving solution.

8. Calibration of the proposed software.
To select the feasible route among different possible routes.
The aim of the project is to demonstrate how bridge design can be performed in a very
short time with much ease, precision and also economical.
To obtain the alignment details.
To obtain the cross section details.
To obtain the Bill of quantity (BOQ).

10. Research Methodology
Study Area and Data Collection
Our study area is the design of any bridge in Pakistan using Autodesk InfraWorks.
Autodesk InfraWorks has built-in google earth which can help us selecting a
particular area on map easily.
By selecting a particular place, InfraWorks will automatically provide us the
coordinates( northing, easting) and elevations of different points and will create a
surface.
We will just figure out the desired place where we want to design a bridge
structure and InfraWorks will automatically provide us all the required data
regarding coordinates and elevations of different points.

11. Utilization and Effectiveness
Autodesk InfraWorks provides a speedy navigation.
Modelling can be done with much ease and effectively.
It provides a real world context of the built and natural environment.
Autodesk InfraWorks is a latest version software and more easy to work with.
The most important feature of this software is that, it has a built-in google earth
with the help of which we can easily locate our study area and get the
coordinates data and elevations of different points.
InfraWorks can create a surface for us to work with by just selecting a particular
area.
It provides us the aligment details, cross section and also BOQ.
