Cambridge's Union Society. Also, in 1972, is the year she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in
Economics. Appearing on many TV shows, along with a columnist and critic for work are the main
things Arianna did after graduating. While on the television show called Face the Music, she met a
man named, Bernard Levin and they were two panelists on the show at the time. He was also a critic
in literature. The two wound up living together for a bit of time. Then, in 1980, Arianna left ... Show

And, it's also widespread on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, and Google Plus.
Since the newspaper is also online and so widespread it helps the popularity of it grow. A good
amount of today's generation and population are online rather than reading the paper in their hands.
"When it comes to modern media, there's no denying we live in a social cyber world. News is no
longer the province of only the news channels, and oftentimes, what the news channels produce isn't
always news. The whole landscape has changed."

Drake Biography
Most celebrity's and artist's beginnings are humble. One might even think that a talented artist like
Drake probably rose to stardom overnight. However, he hasn't always started as a rapper. You too
can transition into your dream job from the smallest and unnoticable array of talents. Here are 5
things you didn't know about Drake, according to SheKnows. Drake started out as a Canadian TV
star. He was only 15 years old when he played Jimmy Brooks in "Degrassi: The Next Generation."
His role starred a basketball pro in a wheelchair. His character was dissolved after a few runs. He

when it comes to making it in this tough industry? According to his Biography, when he lost his role
in "Degrassi," he also lost his only source of income. He was on the point of looking for a day job
and he was "...was coming to terms with the fact that ... I might have to work at a restaurant or
something just to keep things going," Drake said. However, because he continued working on his
mixed tapes, that gave him an edge outside of the acting realm. If that didn't work, do you think he'd

Ancestor Biography
Ancestor Biography In all families there are multiply stories of people do incredible things. Some of
these stories are stretched or sometimes made up. That though, does not distract from the fact that
these stories are interesting. In my family the most interesting stories I found were from my dad. He
has had a very interesting life so far. These are the stories that have made my dad him. The first
story I learned about my dad was that when he was in his twenties he and four of his brothers signed
up for a relay race around his city. The race took place at night and they were given a flashlight as
the baton. On the day of the relay race came around and my dad was the second to last one to run.

well and did not have any valuable job skills, but he was determined to learn. Now He works at

my dad was when my dad wanted us to go on a vacation to Mexico. This was a very emotional event
for my parents because they had not seen their families in 13 years. When we got there we were
staying in my dads old house.
My dad wanted to see go see his dad first. Then my dad went around to his favorite places and he
enjoyed being back. We ended up being there of a year, and he loved every moment of it. These are
only three stories that my dad shared with me. I think these events changed him. In the end these
stories do not affect anyone but my dad. When my dad looks back at his life he thinks about all he

Morality Of Chaucer In The Nun's Tale And Flush
With varying narrators in both the Nun's Priest's Tale and Flush, the moral extracted from the text
comes to be more interpretive previously was the case in Henryson's work. Henryson presented
short, simple stories that explicitly told you what the purpose of the story was, giving you the
meaning that he wanted you to take. As J. Allan Mitchell stated "medieval exemplary narratives
serve as guide to personal deliberation and action" (3). Identically to Henryson, Chaucer at the end
of the Nun's Priest's Tale gives a moral conclusion, where through the Nun's Priest, he states the
supposed moral of the tale;
"Allas! Ye lords, many a fals flatour Is in your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, morality gets drawn from both Flush and the Nun's Priest's Tale, however, little
significance is placed on the ethical preaching's of the texts. The "purpose" (Mitchell, 17) not
restricted to moral lessons, in fact purpose is not required at all. When Virginia Woolf first began
Flush, she intended the biography merely for the amusement of one of the Bloomsbury group
(Smith, 356). While the text clearly grew in meaning during its creation, its inception was
purposeless, especially in with regards to morality. Morality was always going to be secondary in
Flush as the book is all about innovation. Like most modernist, Woolf was always trying to be
innovative and different in her work. While, the dog memoir pre–exists Flush, Woolf radically wrote
the novella from the perspective of the dog, emphasising his point of view over all else (Smith, 352).
Most brilliantly, Woolf gave Flush an almost human understanding all the while remaining
specifically distinct from his owners. Take for example Flush's understanding of his class as a dog.
Class is a human, racial, and economic creation which Flush understands in his own way; "Flush
knew before the summer had passed that there is no equality among dogs: some dogs are high dogs;
some are low" (Woolf, 19). This specific human understanding coupled with his human relief when
he realises

Comparison Of My Life And Angela's Ashes '
Sir Isaac Newton once wrote "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
And autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life
experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and
real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in
one's life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something
significant in human history. This teaches us, with a realistic approach, of the opportunities and
challenges one has faced to reach where they are today. [Greeting] Helen Keller's The Story of my
Life and Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes are prime examples ... Show more content on

One of the most significant lines in Angela's Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult
perspective of McCourt: "It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable
Irish Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated
mother moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters..." It is his bitter attitude
conveyed with the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of "mother
moaning" and "pompous priests" to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his
childhood which greatly contrasts with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good–
natured attitude to balance the bleakness of his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his
past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela's Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner
thoughts resonated within the readers through their usage of emotive language to convey their
experiences. Keller's writing style consists of mainly emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts
greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn touches the hearts of the audience further than any
novel could. "We would sit together of an evening and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But
in college there is no time to commune with one's thoughts... When one enters the portals of
learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am improvident enough to prefer present joy to
hoarding riches against a rainy day." Again, the use of words with positive and negative
connotations are evident throughout the text allowing us to grasp her feelings as she compares her
free past life to the restriction of education. The revelation of the inner thoughts of the author
establishes a relationship where the readers

Biographies And Biographies Of Biographies
Biographies are life stories of individuals written by other people. There are several different kind of
biography books. Historical biographies, authentic biographies, fictionalized biographies,
biographical fiction, and autobiographies. Historical biographies cover people from the past. They
provide accurate information about historical people. Authentic biographies are established by facts
that can only be supported by evidence. It needs support such as historical documents or personal
recollections. When most people think of authentic biographies they think of boring statistics, but in
reality authentic biographies can be more than that. Fictionalized biographies are biographies who
have some accuracy but also have a lot of fabricated wording. Such as the actual conversation said
or ideas that the character thought in their story but most of the time the author has no actual idea
what the person the biography is written about actually thought. Biographical fiction isn't really a
biography but merely fiction. They are for more entertainment purposes and don't actually have
much historical merit. Autobiographies is a book written about a person by that person. They can be
entertaining and teach you some information but they are actually more informational because they
rely on their recollection of events. Some of the best books ever written are biographies. Anne

A Short Biography : A Brief Biography
"My philosophy is that the biggest risk in life is not to take the risk". This quote shows that in
Christiaan's mind giving up was not an option and if a problem arises, face it head on. Christiaan
Barnard was the first person to perform a human to human heart transplant. Christiaan was born
November 8th, 1922, in Beaufort West, South Africa. He passed away at the age of 78, on
September 2nd 2001. (Sahistory)
The contribution that Christiaan gave to the scientific community was huge. He was the first person
to transplant a heart from one human to the other successfully. On December 3rd 1967 the transplant
took place at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. The transplant was successful, however the
anti–rejection medications that the patient took suppressed his immune system. Since the
immunosuppressant was so strong the patient died of double immune pneumonia. The heart was
working fine up until the death. Barnard was also the developer of the "UCT mitral and aortic
prostheses". The mitral and aortic prostheses were used to fix diseased valves in the heart.
Christiaan accomplished many things in his academic career. He studied at the University of Cape
Town, and the University of Minnesota. In Minnesota he gained his MSc and his PhD by studying
Cardiothoracic surgery and congenital intestinal atresia. When he traveled back to Cape Town he
introduced a procedure that he learned in Minnesota, which was the open–heart surgery. He traveled

Historical Writings Of The Early Middle Ages : Origins And...
In late antiquity (161–565 CE) to the early middle ages the origins and development of early
biographies and hagiographies were beginning to occur and transform. In this essay, I will argue
how and why people wrote biographical writings by referring to the works of Augustine's
Confessions, Einhard's Life of Charlemagne and the hagiography, Perpetua. First of all, it is
important to remember that biographical writings at first were regarded as a mere way of writing
down history. Focusing on one individual's life events, the genre didn't begin to emerge until the
18th century, hence why historians should be careful when analysing such sources (Kendall) . Early
biographies from these periods tend to focus on the lives of kings, saints and other notable people.
They were derived to inspire people and perhaps lead a more religious, holy life. This is since most
the people who were writing these works were monks, hermits and priests using their knowledge
and understanding of these people to help raise awareness of their lives. Many were paid by noble
kings to write their biographies to legitimise their right to rule and to put away any criticism.
Secondly, a biography is a person's life written from the perspective of another. It is typically written
in third person, different from an autobiography which is written by that particular person on their
own lives, written in the first person. One such biography was Einhards, Life of Charlemagne, or

Tensions Between Essential And Constructed Selves In...
Re–dressing Feminist identities: Tensions Between Essential and constructed selves in Virginia
Woolf's Orlando
In this article, Burns, examines the personal identity and contextualized identity shown through
Virginia Woolf's, Orlando. Burns explains that it's not the person that changes, it's the interior self
that changes, it's the exterior self that changes. Woolf shows this by linking this theory, created by
John Locke, to the Oak Tree; the tree can be amputated of its branches or –likewise to Orlando–
Castrated, but it will still not change the inner self. Burns continues to explain that no change in
identity has occurred in Orlando during her body change. Although, she had a new body, Burns
claims that her gender cannot be affected until the clothes come on because the clothes are the shape
the person.
Orlando Introduction by Maria Dibattista In the Gynomorphosis article, Dibattista writes that
Orlando's sex was changed which altered her future, but her identity remained the same. In addition,
this Gynomorphosis is meant under Woolf as a self–actualizing event. Dibattista claims that Woolf is
trying to make us readers understand what is going on inside Orlando's mind rather than observe the
events that are happening to her. An agent that effects our mind is clothes. According to Dibattista,
we are molded by our clothing, therefore affecting how we think, feel, and speak. Clothes can mold
our exterior but is unreliable on the true person underneath it all, Woolf's

MLK Biographies
Biographies of Five Authors
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
MLK was the most influential civil rights leader in the history of the United States. Born in Atlanta,
Georgia, Martin Luther King, Jr. spent a large portion of his childhood in or around the Baptist
church. Growing up in the extremely racist south, MLK quickly began to realize the injustice in the
world around him. His first noteworthy action as a civil rights leader was organizing a boycott of the
Montgomery public transportation system after Rosa Parks was arrested. Soon, he was giving
speeches and organizing nonviolent protests across the country. His actions were heavily influenced
by those of Gandhi. Even when he was arrested, he continued to write from a jail in Birmingham,
Alabama. Once he got out, he delivered his most famous speech, the "I Have a Dream" speech. His
words and actions were highly polarizing. People either loved him or hated him. As such, King
faced more than one assassination attempt over the course of his life. Unfortunately, one of them
was successful. Dr. King died on April 4, 1968.

Plutarch 's Life Of The Heroes
Plutarch was a son of the philosopher named Aristobulus. He was born in 46 AD in Chaeronea,
Boeotia; and he died in 120 AD. Plutarch was also known as a historian, essayist and biographer
who had left a huge literary heritage for humanity. By traveling abroad to other countries such as
Egypt, Greece..., Plutarch assembled lots of information about the heroes of the Roman and Greece
mythology. After that, he used that information to write about lives of heroes. He gathered all
fascinating biographies in his massive books: "Plutarch' Greek Lives", "Plutarch' Roman Lives" and
"The Parallel Lives of Plutarch". Those books bring a reputation to Plutarch and he became a
famous biographer at that time. In his books, he wrote the lives of the heroes in order of time to
show his respects to those people of both countries. The short biographies in his books are about
childhood, achievements and deaths of the heroes. Besides that, he also added some interesting
stories and lessons in those biographies to educate his readers. His books were translated into many
different languages and they have great influences to modern historians and modern biographers.
After reading the book "Greek Lives" of Plutarch, I was impressed by the biography about
Lycurgus. Lycurgus was written as the father of Sparta. He was legislator who wrote many
constitutions to build up and maintain the strength and power of Sparta during 500 years. There are

A Long Walk to Freedom
This extract is an autobiography by Nelson Mandela talking about the transition from a small
undemanding child to a contributing factor in society. The writer engages our sympathy by effective

this exhausting walk. Even the word 'walk' co notates to the, strive for the attainment of freedom and

them rather 'cross' as they thought the chief was being selfish and 'ignorant,' in his 'abusive

them to the 'oppressor' behind what they think is the 'benefactor.' In all, the only thing the chief
ended up doing was 'spoiling the proud feelings with wrong headed remarks,' for the teenagers.
Gradually, the pace slows and there is growth of mental maturity and realization as the true meaning
of the chief's words began to seep in Mandela's mind. The real essence of the words had 'sown a

Breaking the Biography
What exactly is a biography? According to Dictionary.com it is "a written account of another
person's life". However, that is a very broad definition, so I have decided add on to this definition to
make my own definition of what I believe a biography to be. A biography is a written account of
another person's life told by an individual outside of the story. In Art Spiegelman's Maus, although
pushing the boundaries, certain sections of the book could best be described as a "biography"
through the way they are written. One aspect that sets this biography apart from others is the
medium used. While most biographies are purely written and tell the story of the subject's life, Maus
is (or could be considered) a graphic biography, if there is such a thing. It is both written and
illustrated by Art Spiegelman, who happens to be the subject's son. By using a mixture of drawings,
dialogue and commentary, Spiegelman is able to tell the story of his father's experiences during
World War II. This is another factor that sets it apart from other biographies; it doesn't follow
Spiegelman's father, Vladek Spiegelman's life in its entirety, but instead focuses primarily on his life
during World War II. By using drawings to depict scenes certain scenes, it allows the reader to
visualize exactly what Spiegelman wants them to see. It allows his creative expression and freedom
to run wild and create a unique way to tell the story of his father. The 'biography' actually begins at

Biographies And Biographies Of Books Essay
The term "nonfiction" is a very broad classifier of literature. Alongside fiction, the two genres
account for all the literature in existence. A quick internet search will present a number of genres
that are considered nonfiction. From historical eyewitness accounts, to creative nonfiction, to
biographies, there are many genres that people generally accept as factual. Memoirs and biographies
are usually counted on the more reliable side. Thus, there exist a number of sub–genre that fall under
the title of "nonfiction". However, take a look past the surface, a number of problems with this
stance arise. In all truth, the brains of human beings are the only source behind the facts of
biographies and memoirs. As it turns out, this is the source is far from credible. Memoirs and
biographies are not reliable sources of nonfiction due to the differences between brains, bias which
affects the brain, and the faulty nature of brain functions. Every person has a distinct, separate brain,
despite how similar people may feel to the others around them. Calahan had violent behaviors and

Biography of Euripides
Chapter 1: Euripides Biography Part 1: Bob Prescott Euripides lived in a very mysterious time. We
know so little about the era in which he lived because of the loss of many ancient manuscripts at the
burning of the Library of Alexandria. Given this massive loss of knowledge of the pre–modern
world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is, however quite a lot of
information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides is a character in some of
Aristophanes' and the other comic poet's comedies. The largest comprehensive collection of
information on the playwright, however, is from a biography called "The Life of Euripides" by
Satyrus of Callatis (Lefkowitz 87). The play that we have chosen to ... Show more content on

Or perhaps, he, like many writers, preferred to write in solitude. Throughout his life, Euripides
married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named
Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides, followed
in their father's footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus 153). Satyrus
mentions in his Vita that Euripides' first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz adds that she slept
with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after discovering that she had
committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, "in which he exposes women's immorality." (154) After
remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also unfaithful. This was said to make
him "even more eager to slander women." (Satyrus 154) Speculation of how Euripides' works were
perceived when they were new is a difficult concept. Given how male–dominated society was at the
time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was well–accepted, as were many of his other works.
Medea, as another example, was probably well accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display
of women and foreigners. Today, the play is known to be an interesting analysis of a complex
character oppressed by society, but in ancient times, it is uncertain whether the theatre patrons
would have seen past the surface. At some point in his

Do not simply copy out the first sentence. Skim the entire biography and be sure you are thinking
about this question. There has been many influences that have made an impact in Fitzgerald's life
and writing. Before pursuing his career as a writer, he joined the army in 1917. He was discharged
and went out to pursue his high paying job, which led to him marrying his wife, Zelda Sayre.
However, though many hardships, his wife Zelda Sayre decided to end the engagement. Fitzgerald
wrote his novel "The Side of Paradise". This novel brought Mr. Fitzgerald fame, which encouraged

However, the three other terms are not used in today's society and I am curious to know why they
are not used anymore. Dumb Dora is a word used to describe a foolish and shortsighted female.
Although derogatory terms are not good, I am interested to understand why it isn't used in modern
day. It may be because the terminology used at the time was when there was gender inequality. The
vocabulary used to describe someone in the 1920's show how much the world has changed over the
years. For example, you aren't going to find a guy trying to pick up girls at a street corner as often as
you were in the 1920's (Drugstore Cowboy). 12)What do you expect based on the scenes in the

Let me ask you a question. How are you not incredibly bored by the above professional biography? I

I am someone who is going to stick her tongue out like a four year old who doesn't like broccoli

Analysis Of Virginia Woolf 's ' Gone At The Lighthouse '...
Elizabeth Conner 9 November 2017 ENGL–4010–001 Professor Westover Virginia Woolf: Gone to
the Lighthouse, Never to Return Many authors inject a little bit of their personalities and lives into
their writing, making it more relatable to their readers and more marketable to publishers. However,
depending on the work, it can sometimes be difficult to determine what is inspired by real life and
what is merely fiction. Therefore how important an author's biography is to a story can also be hard
to understand. Without knowing about the author, would certain key points be missed, or would the
story still carry the same message and make just as much sense? On the flipside, could information
about the author cause the reader to look for things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1903, when Woolf was in her very early twenties, her other half–brother George began to
sexually abuse her, sliding into bed with her against her will, and almost never leaving her alone.
Shortly after, she tried to commit suicide by jumping out a window, but it was too low to kill her
(Whitworth, 9–10). Virginia met Leonard Woolf briefly in 1904, and after a long and tumultuous
courtship plagued by doubt and Virginia's mental illness, they were married on August 10th, 1912
(Whitworth, 15–17). In 1913, she took a very large dose of sleeping medication, hoping to kill
herself. Before she was dead, however, she was found and her stomach pumped, saving her life
(Whitworth, 17–18). All of these events shaped her life and writing, but certain aspects of what she
experienced really seem to affect how a reader could interpret Mrs. Dalloway. One of the most
important aspects of Woolf's novel which reflects real life is the suicide of Septimus Smith.
Throughout the novel, Septimus is portrayed as a very disturbed man, having just come back from
the war with post traumatic stress disorder which doctors are unable, or perhaps unwilling, to
acknowledge. Therefore, Septimus has hallucinations, night terrors, and is generally feeling so
miserable that he decides to kill himself by jumping out of a window onto the street below (Woolf,
43–49, 76–79). It's a very gut–wrenching affair to the modern reader considering all

A Short Biography : A Biography Of Dorothy Day
1. For my biography, I choose Dorothy Day, who was a journalist and social activist born on
November 8, 1897, in Brooklyn, NY. Dorothy Day was known for being a significant figure for her
revolutionary vision and her passion for doing work for poor people and representing what she
believes a Catholic worker should do as Catholic.
2. My reason for picking Dorothy Day is mainly because I loved the passion she had for wanting to
help poor people and how much she wanted Catholic people to get out and help the poor. I also
picked Dorothy Day because she seemed like your average person that been through a lot in their
life, having an abortion, in and out of the church, dropped out of college after two years, being in
several relationships, etc. before the age of 25 but, despite all of that she never let that get the best of
her and all of those things made her become a better person. Out of most of the people we have
discussed in class Dorothy was the most inspiring to me.
3. Dorothy Day lived between the year 1897 until 1980 during her time she lived through World War
I and World War II. In class we talked about Catholics making a name for themselves in Journalism
and how during World War I only 17% of Catholics were in the United States population. We also
discussed Catholics coming to be involved in a wide range of social reform movements

The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf Essay
The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf "The Death of the Moth," written by Virginia Woolf,
explains the brief life of a moth corresponding with the true nature of life and death. In this essay,
Woolf puts the moth in a role that represents life. Woolf makes comparisons of the life outside to the
life of the moth. The theme is the mystery of death and the correspondence of the life of the moth
with the true nature of life. The images created by Woolf are presented that appeal to the eye. For
instance, the moth's body during the death is appealing to the eye. The image makes the reader more
interested. The essence of true life is energy. As Woolf describes, "I could fancy that a thread of vital
light became visible. He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, as the essay continues, Woolf begins to be more interested and starts to feel a sense of pity or
sympathy for the moth. As described here, "Watching him, it seemed as if a fibre, very thin and
pure, of the enormous energy of the world had been thrust into his frail and diminutive body" (426–
427). This sentence shows Woolfs' attitude starting to change towards the moth. In the beginning of
the essay, Woolf does not show the interest like she does towards the end of the essay. When the
moth starts to go through death the tone changes dramatically and Woolf is a state of wonder and
awe for the moth.
When the moth is dying Woolf uses lengthier sentences to bring out the importance of the situation:
One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom
which could, had it chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human
beings; nothing, I knew, had any chance against death. (428)
The lengthier sentences also help to explain the wonder and awe that Woolf expresses towards the
moth. The wonder and awe that she expressed was due to the power and inevitability of the death.
Woolf was in awe that death is inevitable and that she could not do anything about it. The next
stylistic device is personification. By definition personification is to think of or represent as having
human qualities or life. Woolf applies this device to

book, Jeffrey and Edwin seems to have different opinions on things and is different from each other.
The question of whether or not they are good friends as Jeffrey describes, in the book, is true. The

Every detail of a biography explains the life that the artist had, which includes one's birth,
achievements throughout life, and how one's end affected the people around them. Millhauser
mentioned the design of a biography and how Jeffrey explains to Edwin that his life could not be
designed as a beginning, middle, and end until it has ended foreshadows the death of Edwin. If
biographies are about people that had a beginning, middle, and end, then how do the readers know
that everything in the biography is true and accurate? This is one of the reasons why Edwin did not
like biographies. Once the artist's life ends, the biographers can write anything they want about the
artist. Edwin brought up the idea that biographies are "illusion of completeness" (101). Millhauser
mentions this because he is hinting at the idea that the biographers have an option of omitting or
adding details to make it seem that the artist had a completed successful life. Chapter 22 leaves the

Exploring Biographical Knowledge Into The Daily Routine...
The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily
routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that
impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study,
considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of people with dementia in
a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the
study considered.
Discussion
The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in
dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in
long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities
this study indicates a number of benefits.
First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a
person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of the
resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a patient. The
uniqueness of person's needs and values can only be understood and adequately addressed by
knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life experiences the
staff were able to see not a "mean and loud woman" but somebody who expresses her fear of water
getting into her ears, or attachment to

The Fictional Biography
The novel Frankenstein is perhaps one of the most widely recognized books in European Literature.
Frankenstein is a novel written by Mary W. Shelley that features the life of Victor Frankenstein who,
through an obsession for knowledge and achievement, animates a monster and immediately is

utilized symbolism, theme, and setting very effectively and it was written by an individual who
applied the pass–time of writing as a means to heal the wounds of her terrible losses.

Essay on Florence Price
Florence Price, Composer
The purpose of a biography is to enhance the reader's knowledge about a particular person's life, in
this case, Florence Beatrice Price, and offer a sort of historical background focusing on significant
events, accomplishments, and personal aspects of that particular individual's life. Ideally, the writer
molds complex biographical facts–birth and death, education, ambition, conflict, milieu, work,
relationship, accident–into a book [or article] that has the independent vitality of any creative work
but is, at the same time, "true to life." Barbara Garvey Jackson, author of the biography

Jackson's article seemed to portray Price as more than just a composer, but rather as a woman who
successfully and honorably acquired a special talent – music. Her knowledge about Price's life and
the events that occurred during that particular era seemed to be extremely abundant. There were
several mentions of historical events such as the great Chicago fire of 1871, political references, and
World War I, which enhance the ambiance. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that she over did it a bit. I
realize that her objective is to "...assess the cultural world in which she [Florence] grew up, her own
life and professional career in Little Rock and Chicago, and the present states of study about her",
but during the course of the article, I found myself straying away from the main idea. As if I were
loosing track of the importance if the musician herself, and focusing more on the intimate details
that Jackson described. I assume that her purpose for inserting such irrelevant points or topics and
then elaborating on them is to capture a sense of reality and cultural sympathy. Which, in a way did
exactly that, but I soon became uninterested and had to force myself to continue reading.
Within this article, there is a wealth of both personal and professional information. Much of the
information was on Price herself, but there were moments that Jackson elaborated on rather

All too often, the re exposure to early experiences as children elicits emotions, thoughts, and

Orlando-Conforming to Society Essays
As a person looks around themselves and their surroundings they can pick up little details about
themselves as well as their society. Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken
home, displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what's not. This alludes to the fact
that one acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way
to make one's self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the
respect of society? That is the very struggle that presents itself in Virginia Woolf's Orlando.

Having lost his first true love devastated Orlando, and having Mr. Nick Greene put down his
beloved poetry (page 94, Woolf), the last issue Orlando could handle in the current society he was

pick himself up and transfer himself into another society. He moved to the land of the Turks in the
seventeenth century.
Once Orlando reached the Turk's he once again conformed himself. At "about seven, he would rise,
wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet" (page 120,
Woolf). Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying
to escape the "prison" that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second
time trying to conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled,
looked, and covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he
seemed "to have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf).
This begs the question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn't fit in despite
his effort? It is here where Orlando became pensive, and was graced with a visit from the Ladies:

Ludwig van Beethoven is perhaps the most famous and influential of all the pianist composers of his
time. He was considered instrumental in the transition of between the classical and romantic eras in
Western Art Music.
Beethoven was born on December 16th, 1770 in Bonn (now called Cologne, Germany) to parents of
Belgian descent. His father, Johann, was a musician at the court of Bonn, and his mother, Maria,
whom he later deemed as his "best friend", was described as a warmhearted gentle women. There

He could then respond orally or in the book. Out of a total 400 conversation books, 264 books were

In 1807, Beethoven wrote his third symphony for Bonaparte. Bonaparte was seen as a liberator of
people, which then opened the door of hope for all people. However, Beethoven became angry and
when the First Consul declared himself emperor and put that anger into his music, spewing out his
name from the musical score. It was played for the first time on April 7th, 1805, and entitled Eroica
Symphony.
During this time period, Ludwig was commissioned by the Viennese government to begin
composing an opera, entitled "Lenora". This would be the only opera he would compose. Critics
speculate it is because he was not skilled in this area. It went through several revisions and was
retitled "Fedelio", against his wishes. It debuted on November 20th, 1805 to a very small audience
of French officers under Napoleon.
From the 1805 onward, Beethoven's productivity increased dramatically, having reached his musical
maturity. He had become regarded as one of the most important in a generation of young composers,
following Hayden and Mozart. Beethoven

Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela And Louis Zamperini
After reading many stories about people being incarcerated by their environments, you would think
they would just accept it or give up. Shockingly in many of the stories I've read the exact opposite
happens and they fight through these tough situations and always manage to stay positive no matter
what is thrown at them. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela and Louis Zamperini are perfect examples of
people who were physically and emotionally incarcerated and they never let it bring them down.
Instead, they used their incarceration as motivation to better the situation they were in.
Reading many of the poems in class really gives you a sense of how a person is feeling in such little
words. It describes the environment around them, how they are dealing with is and what their
thoughts are on it. A poem I feel does incredibly well with this this "Some Advice to Those Who
Will Serve Time in Prison". This poem describes a man in prison with a lot of time to serve and how
he feels about it. He describes prison as making him start to lose himself and how much it really
affects his outlook on life. Prison makes him feel powerless and like he has no control of his life
because he can't make decisions for himself anymore. He can't control when he eats, showers or
even when he wakes up in the morning, basically the only thing he can control is how he deals with
this new way of life. He says "[p]art of you may live alone inside, / like a stone at the bottom of a

that causes her to change her life and future for the better. Woolf masterly incorporates the usage of
the both characterizations to parallel her life to the actions, secrets and struggles of her characters.

She wanted her women readers to know that they were capable of doing pretty much anything they
desired.
In addition to sharing actions, Virginia Woolf utilizes the usage of characterization to bring to light
how Clarissa Dalloway's secret affair revealed in the story mirrors to another secret affair involving
Woolf and Vita Sackville West. Clarissa Dalloway shares a kiss with Sally Seton as she describes it
as "the most exquisite moment of her whole life" (Woolf 35). Although it was never disclosed if
Clarissa's husband was ever aware or suspicious of anything, Clarissa explains how her feeling for
Sally "was no like one's feelings for a man" and how their romance "had a quality which could exist
[only] between women" (Woolf 34). As for Woolf, she had a secret affair with Vita Sackville West
who was another publishing author at Bloomsbury. The two shared love letters for almost 10 years
without either of their husbands ever finding out. According to an article published by Kelly Carlin
from James Madison University, it has rumored that it is not true "whether or not Mrs. Dalloway's
Sally Seton is based on the truth", meaning that even others have picked up on the fact that there is a
high possibility that the very own Sally Seton is a doppelgänger to Vita Sackville–West. Because or

Virginia Woolf's Orlando and the Relationship between Virginia and Vita
It has been said the novel Orlando is the longest love–letter ever written; a celebration of the bond
between women. The relationship between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville–West is well
documented and known to have been intimate. That Virginia was passionate and giddy about her
relationship with Vita is also known and displayed in Orlando. But Orlando also offers a rare
intimate glimpse into the mind of Virginia Woolf. An unselfconscious work, it reveals her mind,
talent at play. Orlando offers rich insights into her mind while keeping the rich prose that embodies
her other great works. The novel demonstrates several of Virginia's obsessions, the focus here on ...

Vita's mother surely took exception to her daughter's life being so openly flaunted. Though she
herself was not a role–model of marital fidelity. In fact, for Vita's parent's extra–marital affairs was
the norm. From this influence, Vita based her actions; a reason that caused Virginia much pain later
in their relationship.
Virginia became fascinated with Vita's family history. Vita's family could be traced back to William
the Conqueror. Vita's ancestry and her own life–style differed greatly from Virginia's. Vita was
dramatic, exciting and thrilling; Virginia, mousy, quiet, intellectual. This difference between their
personalities and family history captivated Virginia. "Part of the attraction was the story Vita had to
tell. Virginia fell on it, dramatised and exaggerated it, long before she wrote Orlando" (Lee 481).
The family house, central in Orlando, was Vita's great love. Because she was a woman, she was
prevented from inheriting the house. Virginia "always associated Vita with her house and ancestry; it
was as much the inspiration for Orlando as Vita herself" (Lee 481). Therefore Orlando returns to
England a woman and discovers a lawsuit against her. "The chief charges against her were (1) that
she was dead, and therefore could not hold any property whatsoever; (2) that she was a woman,
which amounts to much the same thing..." (Orlando 168). In Orlando, Virginia gives Vita (as
Orlando) the power of her ancestors (by

Morality Of Chaucer In The Nun's Tale And Flush With varying narrators in both the Nun's Priest's Tale and Flush, the moral extracted from the text comes to be more interpretive previously was the case in Henryson's work. Henryson presented short, simple stories that explicitly told you what the purpose of the story was, giving you the meaning that he wanted you to take. As J. Allan Mitchell stated "medieval exemplary narratives serve as guide to personal deliberation and action" (3). Identically to Henryson, Chaucer at the end of the Nun's Priest's Tale gives a moral conclusion, where through the Nun's Priest, he states the supposed moral of the tale; "Allas! Obviously, morality gets drawn from both Flush and the Nun's Priest's Tale, however, little significance is placed on the ethical preaching's of the texts. The "purpose" (Mitchell, 17) not restricted to moral lessons, in fact purpose is not required at all. When Virginia Woolf first began Flush, she intended the biography merely for the amusement of one of the Bloomsbury group (Smith, 356). While the text clearly grew in meaning during its creation, its inception was purposeless, especially in with regards to morality. Morality was always going to be secondary in Flush as the book is all about innovation. Like most modernist, Woolf was always trying to be innovative and different in her work. While, the dog memoir pre–exists Flush, Woolf radically wrote the novella from the perspective of the dog, emphasising his point of view over all else (Smith, 352). Most brilliantly, Woolf gave Flush an almost human understanding all the while remaining specifically distinct from his owners. Take for example Flush's understanding of his class as a dog. Class is a human, racial, and economic creation which Flush understands in his own way; "Flush knew before the summer had passed that there is no equality among dogs: some dogs are high dogs; some are low" (Woolf, 19). • 11. Comparison Of My Life And Angela's Ashes ' Sir Isaac Newton once wrote "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." And autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in one's life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something significant in human history. This teaches us, with a realistic approach, of the opportunities and challenges one has faced to reach where they are today. One of the most significant lines in Angela's Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult perspective of McCourt: "It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters..." It is his bitter attitude conveyed with the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of "mother moaning" and "pompous priests" to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his childhood which greatly contrasts with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good– natured attitude to balance the bleakness of his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela's Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner thoughts resonated within the readers through their usage of emotive language to convey their experiences. Keller's writing style consists of mainly emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn touches the hearts of the audience further than any novel could. "We would sit together of an evening and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But in college there is no time to commune with one's thoughts... When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am improvident enough to prefer present joy to hoarding riches against a rainy day." Again, the use of words with positive and negative connotations are evident throughout the text allowing us to grasp her feelings as she compares her free past life to the restriction of education. The revelation of the inner thoughts of the author establishes a relationship where the readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Biographies And Biographies Of Biographies Biographies are life stories of individuals written by other people. There are several different kind of biography books. Historical biographies, authentic biographies, fictionalized biographies, biographical fiction, and autobiographies. Historical biographies cover people from the past. They provide accurate information about historical people. Authentic biographies are established by facts that can only be supported by evidence. It needs support such as historical documents or personal recollections. When most people think of authentic biographies they think of boring statistics, but in reality authentic biographies can be more than that. Fictionalized biographies are biographies who have some accuracy but also have a lot of fabricated wording. Such as the actual conversation said or ideas that the character thought in their story but most of the time the author has no actual idea what the person the biography is written about actually thought. Biographical fiction isn't really a biography but merely fiction. They are for more entertainment purposes and don't actually have much historical merit. Autobiographies is a book written about a person by that person. They can be entertaining and teach you some information but they are actually more informational because they rely on their recollection of events. On December 3rd 1967 the transplant took place at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. The transplant was successful, however the anti–rejection medications that the patient took suppressed his immune system. Since the immunosuppressant was so strong the patient died of double immune pneumonia. The heart was working fine up until the death. Barnard was also the developer of the "UCT mitral and aortic prostheses". The mitral and aortic prostheses were used to fix diseased valves in the heart. Christiaan accomplished many things in his academic career. He studied at the University of Cape Town, and the University of Minnesota. In Minnesota he gained his MSc and his PhD by studying Cardiothoracic surgery and congenital intestinal atresia. When he traveled back to Cape Town he introduced a procedure that he learned in Minnesota, which was the open–heart surgery. He traveled to the Soviet Union to study ... • 17. Historical Writings Of The Early Middle Ages : Origins And... In late antiquity (161–565 CE) to the early middle ages the origins and development of early biographies and hagiographies were beginning to occur and transform. In this essay, I will argue how and why people wrote biographical writings by referring to the works of Augustine's Confessions, Einhard's Life of Charlemagne and the hagiography, Perpetua. First of all, it is important to remember that biographical writings at first were regarded as a mere way of writing down history. Focusing on one individual's life events, the genre didn't begin to emerge until the 18th century, hence why historians should be careful when analysing such sources (Kendall) . Early biographies from these periods tend to focus on the lives of kings, saints and other notable people. They were derived to inspire people and perhaps lead a more religious, holy life. This is since most the people who were writing these works were monks, hermits and priests using their knowledge and understanding of these people to help raise awareness of their lives. Many were paid by noble kings to write their biographies to legitimise their right to rule and to put away any criticism. Secondly, a biography is a person's life written from the perspective of another. It is typically written in third person, different from an autobiography which is written by that particular person on their own lives, written in the first person. One such biography was Einhards, Life of Charlemagne, or Vita ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Tensions Between Essential And Constructed Selves In... Re–dressing Feminist identities: Tensions Between Essential and constructed selves in Virginia Woolf's Orlando In this article, Burns, examines the personal identity and contextualized identity shown through Virginia Woolf's, Orlando. Burns explains that it's not the person that changes, it's the interior self that changes, it's the exterior self that changes. Woolf shows this by linking this theory, created by John Locke, to the Oak Tree; the tree can be amputated of its branches or –likewise to Orlando– Castrated, but it will still not change the inner self. Burns continues to explain that no change in identity has occurred in Orlando during her body change. Although, she had a new body, Burns claims that her gender cannot be affected until the clothes come on because the clothes are the shape the person. Orlando Introduction by Maria Dibattista In the Gynomorphosis article, Dibattista writes that Orlando's sex was changed which altered her future, but her identity remained the same. In addition, this Gynomorphosis is meant under Woolf as a self–actualizing event. Dibattista claims that Woolf is trying to make us readers understand what is going on inside Orlando's mind rather than observe the events that are happening to her. An agent that effects our mind is clothes. According to Dibattista, we are molded by our clothing, therefore affecting how we think, feel, and speak. Clothes can mold our exterior but is unreliable on the true person underneath it all, Woolf's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King, Jr. spent a large portion of his childhood in or around the Baptist church. Growing up in the extremely racist south, MLK quickly began to realize the injustice in the world around him. His first noteworthy action as a civil rights leader was organizing a boycott of the Montgomery public transportation system after Rosa Parks was arrested. Soon, he was giving speeches and organizing nonviolent protests across the country. His actions were heavily influenced by those of Gandhi. Even when he was arrested, he continued to write from a jail in Birmingham, Alabama. Once he got out, he delivered his most famous speech, the "I Have a Dream" speech. His words and actions were highly polarizing. People either loved him or hated him. As such, King faced more than one assassination attempt over the course of his life. Unfortunately, one of them was successful. Dr. King died on April 4, 1968. Rumi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plutarch was also known as a historian, essayist and biographer who had left a huge literary heritage for humanity. By traveling abroad to other countries such as Egypt, Greece..., Plutarch assembled lots of information about the heroes of the Roman and Greece mythology. After that, he used that information to write about lives of heroes. He gathered all fascinating biographies in his massive books: "Plutarch' Greek Lives", "Plutarch' Roman Lives" and "The Parallel Lives of Plutarch". Those books bring a reputation to Plutarch and he became a famous biographer at that time. In his books, he wrote the lives of the heroes in order of time to show his respects to those people of both countries. The short biographies in his books are about childhood, achievements and deaths of the heroes. Besides that, he also added some interesting stories and lessons in those biographies to educate his readers. His books were translated into many different languages and they have great influences to modern historians and modern biographers. After reading the book "Greek Lives" of Plutarch, I was impressed by the biography about Lycurgus. Lycurgus was written as the father of Sparta. Yet, the young adults are only 'more and more quiet' and 'more and more angry.' By these repeated comparatives, the writer contrasts their present feeling of resentment to their mood of celebration earlier. All the words are slowly seeping in but it only made them rather 'cross' as they thought the chief was being selfish and 'ignorant,' in his 'abusive comments,' since he was not noticing the positive side – the whites brought them 'value of the education' and the moral cultures and etiquettes taught by them. Their tender age has almost blinded them to the 'oppressor' behind what they think is the 'benefactor.' In all, the only thing the chief ended up doing was 'spoiling the proud feelings with wrong headed remarks,' for the teenagers. Gradually, the pace slows and there is growth of mental maturity and realization as the true meaning of the chief's words began to seep in Mandela's mind. The real essence of the words had 'sown a seed' to the development of a potential future, although it had been 'dormant for a long season.' Now, the tables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Breaking the Biography What exactly is a biography? According to Dictionary.com it is "a written account of another person's life". However, that is a very broad definition, so I have decided add on to this definition to make my own definition of what I believe a biography to be. A biography is a written account of another person's life told by an individual outside of the story. In Art Spiegelman's Maus, although pushing the boundaries, certain sections of the book could best be described as a "biography" through the way they are written. One aspect that sets this biography apart from others is the medium used. While most biographies are purely written and tell the story of the subject's life, Maus is (or could be considered) a graphic biography, if there is such a thing. It is both written and illustrated by Art Spiegelman, who happens to be the subject's son. By using a mixture of drawings, dialogue and commentary, Spiegelman is able to tell the story of his father's experiences during World War II. This is another factor that sets it apart from other biographies; it doesn't follow Spiegelman's father, Vladek Spiegelman's life in its entirety, but instead focuses primarily on his life during World War II. By using drawings to depict scenes certain scenes, it allows the reader to visualize exactly what Spiegelman wants them to see. It allows his creative expression and freedom to run wild and create a unique way to tell the story of his father. The 'biography' actually begins at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Biographies And Biographies Of Books Essay The term "nonfiction" is a very broad classifier of literature. Alongside fiction, the two genres account for all the literature in existence. A quick internet search will present a number of genres that are considered nonfiction. From historical eyewitness accounts, to creative nonfiction, to biographies, there are many genres that people generally accept as factual. Memoirs and biographies are usually counted on the more reliable side. Thus, there exist a number of sub–genre that fall under the title of "nonfiction". However, take a look past the surface, a number of problems with this stance arise. In all truth, the brains of human beings are the only source behind the facts of biographies and memoirs. As it turns out, this is the source is far from credible. Memoirs and biographies are not reliable sources of nonfiction due to the differences between brains, bias which affects the brain, and the faulty nature of brain functions. Every person has a distinct, separate brain, despite how similar people may feel to the others around them. Given this massive loss of knowledge of the pre–modern world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is, however quite a lot of information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides is a character in some of Aristophanes' and the other comic poet's comedies. Throughout his life, Euripides married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides, followed in their father's footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus 153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides' first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, "in which he exposes women's immorality." (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also unfaithful. This was said to make him "even more eager to slander women." (Satyrus 154) Speculation of how Euripides' works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept. Given how male–dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was well–accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. In 1903, when Woolf was in her very early twenties, her other half–brother George began to sexually abuse her, sliding into bed with her against her will, and almost never leaving her alone. Shortly after, she tried to commit suicide by jumping out a window, but it was too low to kill her (Whitworth, 9–10). Virginia met Leonard Woolf briefly in 1904, and after a long and tumultuous courtship plagued by doubt and Virginia's mental illness, they were married on August 10th, 1912 (Whitworth, 15–17). In 1913, she took a very large dose of sleeping medication, hoping to kill herself. Before she was dead, however, she was found and her stomach pumped, saving her life (Whitworth, 17–18). My reason for picking Dorothy Day is mainly because I loved the passion she had for wanting to help poor people and how much she wanted Catholic people to get out and help the poor. I also picked Dorothy Day because she seemed like your average person that been through a lot in their life, having an abortion, in and out of the church, dropped out of college after two years, being in several relationships, etc. before the age of 25 but, despite all of that she never let that get the best of her and all of those things made her become a better person. In this essay, Woolf puts the moth in a role that represents life. Woolf makes comparisons of the life outside to the life of the moth. The theme is the mystery of death and the correspondence of the life of the moth with the true nature of life. The images created by Woolf are presented that appeal to the eye. As described here, "Watching him, it seemed as if a fibre, very thin and pure, of the enormous energy of the world had been thrust into his frail and diminutive body" (426– 427). This sentence shows Woolfs' attitude starting to change towards the moth. In the beginning of the essay, Woolf does not show the interest like she does towards the end of the essay. When the moth starts to go through death the tone changes dramatically and Woolf is a state of wonder and awe for the moth. When the moth is dying Woolf uses lengthier sentences to bring out the importance of the situation: One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom which could, had it chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human beings; nothing, I knew, had any chance against death. (428) The lengthier sentences also help to explain the wonder and awe that Woolf expresses towards the moth. The wonder and awe that she expressed was due to the power and inevitability of the death. Every detail of a biography explains the life that the artist had, which includes one's birth, achievements throughout life, and how one's end affected the people around them. Millhauser mentioned the design of a biography and how Jeffrey explains to Edwin that his life could not be designed as a beginning, middle, and end until it has ended foreshadows the death of Edwin. If biographies are about people that had a beginning, middle, and end, then how do the readers know that everything in the biography is true and accurate? This is one of the reasons why Edwin did not like biographies. Once the artist's life ends, the biographers can write anything they want about the artist. Edwin brought up the idea that biographies are "illusion of completeness" (101). Millhauser mentions this because he is hinting at the idea that the biographers have an option of omitting or adding details to make it seem that the artist had a completed successful life. The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study, considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of people with dementia in a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the study considered. Discussion The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities this study indicates a number of benefits. First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of the resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a patient. The uniqueness of person's needs and values can only be understood and adequately addressed by knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life experiences the staff were able to see not a "mean and loud woman" but somebody who expresses her fear of water getting into her ears, or attachment to ... Shelley that features the life of Victor Frankenstein who, through an obsession for knowledge and achievement, animates a monster and immediately is disgusted by him. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a very creative and emotional novel because it utilized symbolism, theme, and setting very effectively and it was written by an individual who applied the pass–time of writing as a means to heal the wounds of her terrible losses. • 61. Summary Of The Revenge Of Autobiographical Rap By Kendrick... An autobiography is a history of a person's life written or told by that person. When most of us think of an autobiography we think about the stories of political figures or well–known celebrities. We are interested in the events that shaped their lives and can even be inspired by the way they handled themselves or how they achieved their goals. There are many examples of this through music and the hip–hop genre is no exception. The article, "The Revenge of Autobiographical Rap", points out that there are many albums that do just that. When you listening to them you hear their tone (positive or negative) and it impacts how the story is interpreted. I do not feel the same way if I were reading a story. After listening to the albums we discussed earlier I can appreciate the inspirational message each one conveys. My personal favorite of the three artists is Kendrick Lamar. I find him to be a more relatable artist and I enjoy his music. In good kid, m.A.A.d. city, he talks about how his parents were always telling him what to do and who to hang out with. In the end, even after making mistakes, his parents were always there for him and they were proud of the man he has become. My parents are similar to his. They have opinions about everything I do. And, up to now I have not done everything the way they would have liked. I have made my own mistakes. But, my parents have taught me to be a good person and I know that they will always be there for me. Kendrick Lamar's album depicting his life experiences is inspiring to me. I can work hard to make something of myself and I will have people around me that will support me while I am doing just that. • 63. Essay on Florence Price Florence Price, Composer The purpose of a biography is to enhance the reader's knowledge about a particular person's life, in this case, Florence Beatrice Price, and offer a sort of historical background focusing on significant events, accomplishments, and personal aspects of that particular individual's life. Ideally, the writer molds complex biographical facts–birth and death, education, ambition, conflict, milieu, work, relationship, accident–into a book [or article] that has the independent vitality of any creative work but is, at the same time, "true to life." Barbara Garvey Jackson, author of the biography on Florence Price chosen for this class, has noted that the purpose of her article is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson's article seemed to portray Price as more than just a composer, but rather as a woman who successfully and honorably acquired a special talent – music. Her knowledge about Price's life and the events that occurred during that particular era seemed to be extremely abundant. There were several mentions of historical events such as the great Chicago fire of 1871, political references, and World War I, which enhance the ambiance. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that she over did it a bit. I realize that her objective is to "...assess the cultural world in which she [Florence] grew up, her own life and professional career in Little Rock and Chicago, and the present states of study about her", but during the course of the article, I found myself straying away from the main idea. As if I were loosing track of the importance if the musician herself, and focusing more on the intimate details that Jackson described. I assume that her purpose for inserting such irrelevant points or topics and then elaborating on them is to capture a sense of reality and cultural sympathy. Which, in a way did exactly that, but I soon became uninterested and had to force myself to continue reading. Within this article, there is a wealth of both personal and professional information. Much of the information was on Price herself, but there were moments that Jackson elaborated on rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All too often, the re exposure to early experiences as children elicits emotions, thoughts, and memories that may be pleasant or perhaps painful. For this reason, in order to prepare to administer the philanthropic autobiography to a larger group I would take into account the setting and context in which the questions are asked. Preferably, the questions would be posed in smaller groups where individuals may feel more comfortable disclosing personal feelings. In addition, I would allot scheduled times for further discussions so that the experience does not become an event but more significantly an ongoing conversation around formative experiences ... Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken home, displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what's not. This alludes to the fact that one acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way to make one's self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the respect of society? He moved to the land of the Turks in the seventeenth century. Once Orlando reached the Turk's he once again conformed himself. At "about seven, he would rise, wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet" (page 120, Woolf). Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying to escape the "prison" that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second time trying to conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled, looked, and covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he seemed "to have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf). This begs the question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn't fit in despite his effort? • 74. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela And Louis Zamperini After reading many stories about people being incarcerated by their environments, you would think they would just accept it or give up. Shockingly in many of the stories I've read the exact opposite happens and they fight through these tough situations and always manage to stay positive no matter what is thrown at them. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela and Louis Zamperini are perfect examples of people who were physically and emotionally incarcerated and they never let it bring them down. Instead, they used their incarceration as motivation to better the situation they were in. Reading many of the poems in class really gives you a sense of how a person is feeling in such little words. It describes the environment around them, how they are dealing with is and what their thoughts are on it. A poem I feel does incredibly well with this this "Some Advice to Those Who Will Serve Time in Prison". This poem describes a man in prison with a lot of time to serve and how he feels about it. He describes prison as making him start to lose himself and how much it really affects his outlook on life. Prison makes him feel powerless and like he has no control of his life because he can't make decisions for himself anymore. He can't control when he eats, showers or even when he wakes up in the morning, basically the only thing he can control is how he deals with this new way of life. He says "[p]art of you may live alone inside, / like a stone at the bottom of a well" (Judith Tannenbaum, 19). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Clarissa Dalloway shares a kiss with Sally Seton as she describes it as "the most exquisite moment of her whole life" (Woolf 35). Although it was never disclosed if Clarissa's husband was ever aware or suspicious of anything, Clarissa explains how her feeling for Sally "was no like one's feelings for a man" and how their romance "had a quality which could exist [only] between women" (Woolf 34). As for Woolf, she had a secret affair with Vita Sackville West who was another publishing author at Bloomsbury. The two shared love letters for almost 10 years without either of their husbands ever finding out. According to an article published by Kelly Carlin from James Madison University, it has rumored that it is not true "whether or not Mrs. Dalloway's Sally Seton is based on the truth", meaning that even others have picked up on the fact that there is a high possibility that the very own Sally Seton is a doppelgänger to Vita Sackville–West. Virginia became fascinated with Vita's family history. Vita's family could be traced back to William the Conqueror. Vita's ancestry and her own life–style differed greatly from Virginia's. Vita was dramatic, exciting and thrilling; Virginia, mousy, quiet, intellectual. This difference between their personalities and family history captivated Virginia. "Part of the attraction was the story Vita had to tell. Virginia fell on it, dramatised and exaggerated it, long before she wrote Orlando" (Lee 481). The family house, central in Orlando, was Vita's great love. Because she was a woman, she was prevented from inheriting the house. Virginia "always associated Vita with her house and ancestry; it was as much the inspiration for Orlando as Vita herself" (Lee 481). Therefore Orlando returns to England a woman and discovers a lawsuit against her.
