3. TYPES OF PREPOSITIONS:
•(a) simple prepositions: in, of , off ,

up ,with.
•(b) compound prepositions : above,
about, across, along, among ,around,
before, behind, below, beneath

according to, in front of, by means of,
because of, by virtue of, for the sake of,

5. Prepositions of time and date :
at, on ,in by, to till/until, during, for since ,before, often,
afterwards , then within.
(a)at : (i) at a time : at noon, at night at Diwali , at 4
o’clock , at 5 a.m. at midnight, at first , at last , at the
beginning , at the end.
(b) in: (i) in a period : in 1980 , in may , in the
morning/evening/afternoon , in winter/summer , in a
month/week/ year, etc.
(ii) before time : in time.
(iii) time expressions :in the beginning ,in the end .
(c)By : before that time /at that time : by 4 o ‘clock, by
