INDIVIDUAL DIFFEENCES INVOLVING TEACHERS AND STUDENT ON SOCIAL

Abstract
In today's society lines are being blurred as to what is acceptable and what is not. I feel that no
matter how advanced we as a whole become, it is never acceptable for a teacher to be anything other
than a mentor and a guide to a student. Therefore, my theory is that a teacher will not accept
advances from a student offering friendship on social media sites.
According to multiple rating sites, Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are found
around the world by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when the teachers didn't have Facebook or Twitter they had to resort to the old fashioned
way: in class assignments, face–to–face interactions, or email which was just effective. If it gets to a
point when a student or teacher are lacking and needing sufficient info that they can't solve the old
fashion way, then you can really get old school by having a student / teacher conferences. It has and
will always be effective than
networking sites. Socializing skills are best learned in real life. When I asked another colleague of
mines on her opinion on student and teachers being friends on Facebook and Twitter she stated; "I
definitely do not like it because my daughter posted something on Facebook in regards of her and
her boyfriend getting into an argument and that she was breaking up with him. The next day the
when she got to class her teacher came up to her and asked her was she alright and that she would
find another boyfriend soon". My daughter was stunned and ashamed at the same time. And that
caused her not to post anything personal on her page again.
Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have been created to allow open lines of
communication between family and friends. They are networks that allow people to share personal
information, photos, and much more. They also allow you to open up your feelings and concerns to
different friends and family and your

Assess the View That Social Class Differences in...
Assess the view that social class differences in educational achievement are the result of school
processes such as labeling. (20 marks) Labelling refers to meanings or definitions we attach to
someone or something to make sense of them and these could be negative or positive labels. For
example, in schools teachers are likely to label middle–class pupils as bright and more able to
achieve in education whereas, they would see working class pupils as less able. Teacher labels can
affect a pupil's educational achievement as it will influence how they perform educationally.
However, there are other school factors which cause underachievement and these are, the self–
fulfilling prophecy, streaming and pupil subculture. There have been a ... Show more content on

For example, teachers may give a negative label to a working class pupil and see them as badly
behaved as a result, the pupil would accept that label and live up to it. Therefore, pupils given
negative labels may see themselves as failures and give up trying consequently, fulfilling the
original prophecy. Some sociologists would argue that streaming can affect a pupil's educational
achievement. Streaming refers to separating children into different ability groups or classes called
'streams'. Each group is then taught separately, according to their ability for all subjects. In Becker's
study, teachers did not see working–class children as ideal pupils and were seen as lacking ability
therefore, they were placed in a lower stream. This leads to self–fulfilling prophecy as pupils except
their teachers' low expectations by under–achieving. For example, Douglas found that children
placed in a lower stream at the age of 8 suffered a decline in their IQ score by the age of 11. In
addition, sociologists would argue that pupil subcultures affect the pupils' educational achievement.
For example, the pro–school subculture contains pupils who have been placed in higher streams and
are committed to school values. Theses pupils are more likely to be middle–class therefore they tend
to achieve in education. However, the anti–school subculture contains

Differences Of Social Class And Inequality Of Class
Social class and equality of class' has come a long way, from racial struggles all the way to woman
suffrage. Although, with these advances there are still differences between social class' that bring out
a serious sense of inequality. Some of the social class differences could be because of things such as:
a family's income, race, and someone's educational level. There are social "standards" that can limit
certain class' abilities to accomplish high reaching goals. There are some people that truly believe
that if someone is to fall under a labelled category, that they may not be as qualified as another
person because of something out of their control. There is a disagreement on what abilities lower
class families have against a higher class family. Lower class is defined as "the lowest social rank or
standing due to low income, lack of skills or education, and the like", while a high class is deemed
naturally superior in all qualities. In Angela Locke's article "Born Poor and Smart" she makes the
comment about her mother that says, "She did things that poor people aren't supposed to do"(338).
What she means by "things poor people aren't supposed to do" was that her mother educated her
children extremely well and this lead to a high intelligence level in her kids. Locke's mother
providing this for her children opened up opportunities for them that would not have gotten
otherwise. According to Brink Lindsey in his article "Culture of Success" this should not have been

Difference Between Natural Science And Social Science
Above all else, the aim of science is to produce knowledge; that is, science aims to produce a set of
verified statements about phenomena and their varying relationships. Scientists obtain this
knowledge through a systematic procedure generally including identification, observation,
description, classification, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomenon.
Of all that can be observed by science, there is understood to be two separate types of phenomena:
natural (that which exists independently of human interaction) and social (that which exists only
because of human interaction). As science primarily observes phenomena in order to gain
knowledge, the sciences are consequently broken up into two divisions that independently study the
two divisions of phenomena; the two divisions of science are thus natural science and social science.
Furthermore, it is a common consensus in the scientific community that natural scientists "know"
more than social scientists. Though seemingly derogatory, the phrase remains true as natural
scientists indeed have more knowledge of the phenomena they study than do social scientists; this
exists only as a result of four unique qualities of social phenomena as compared to natural
phenomena. As all phenomenon that can be observed can be certainly divided into two categories,
science as a pursuit to observe phenomena must consequently be divided into the two categories that
separately study these. Natural phenomena is

Abstract
John Gatto, a school teacher in the Manhattan area, taught for thirty years at a variety of different
schools. During these years, he realized that children were frequently bored with classroom
activities as a result of how they were being taught. Students were not being challenged and often
already knew the concepts behind the materials taught. Jean Anyon further supports and agrees with
Gatto's statements about the public school system. In her article, she specifies that schools in

In other words, compulsory education is designed to keep the majority of the population in the lower
class by making children "manageable." Students are separated out according to intellectual
abilities, social class, and even by the Darwinian theory of "the favorite race." The children are then
further sorted based on subject, grades, ranking on tests, or by other means, allowing schools to
control who will advance or stay behind. Compulsory education is intended to prevent children from
ever truly growing up or seeking their potential in life. The outcome of this is that they are not
advancing to become complete adults in our society. As Dr. Inglis said "if children could be
cloistered with other children, stripped of responsibility and independence, encouraged to develop
only the trivializing emotions of greed, envy, jealousy, and fear, they would grow older but never
truly grow up." (Inglis, A., 1918)
The first of the six purposes, the adjustive or adaptive function, is used to establish fixed habits of
reaction to authority. Gatto feels this is directly connected to why children are frequently bored in
school. He claims that this prevents critical thinking altogether and does away with the idea that
useful and interesting subjects should be taught because as he states, "you can't test for reflexive
obedience until you know whether you can make kids learn, and

Differences Between The Social And Private Spaces Essay
In all parts of the world, spaces are separated based on affluence with the rich receiving more
privileges and advantages. São Paulo is no different in this retrospect with economic segregation
dividing the city and its urbanites. Derek Pardue's "In Motion: Transportation and Knowledge in São
Paulo" discusses the relationship between the social differences and spaces in São Paulo.
Throughout the article, he examines the spaces of the city to gain an understanding of the urbanites
and their life regarding their mentality, customs, social class, and etc. He emphasizes the clear
division between the poor and wealthy and the impact it relays as a result. One of the important
points he implores is how the public and private spaces are separated according to wealth with the
affluent accessible to more spaces and able to receive more privacy. While, the other crucial point he
stresses is the division of the people based on wealth and how "certain truths about social class" can
be discovered through the mode of transportation in regards to the bus, private automobile, and the
train (157). Clearly, São Paulo is separated by social class through spaces and mode of
transportations. One of the important points Pardue stresses is spaces. Spaces play an integral part in
understanding the formation of the socioeconomic structures in São Paulo. Even though the city had
been long founded in 1554, it only started to gain notable

Social And Gender Differences During The Industrial...
During the industrial revolution there was great migration of workers from rural areas to the cities.
Workers moved from rural area to the urban areas for job. There was a mass scale of movement
during this period that the cities were barely able to cope. They had to add roads and infrastructure,
sanitation and waste management, policing and the adding parks school and collages.
During this boom time not much consideration was given to gender expectations and difference. It is
much later during the late nineties the city authorities started doing studies and surveys on these
expectation and difference.
It was more prominent in the US. American society is very stratified in social classes. They are
grouped on the bases of wealth, education the type job they do and their income. American society
is divided into six levels. The upper class or the wealthy (old money) like Rockefeller and Kennedy.
Then there were the class with new money, the middle class, the working class, the poor working
class and the poor. The urbanization was very much affected by this social difference. The
experience between men and women in this urban areas and cities are totally different. This aspect
of their feelings and experience were totally neglected due to the lack of knowledge and also lack of
research.
Gender difference is prevalent in today's society. So is social and racial difference. If one goes to the
areas that fall under Section A housing, majority of residents are black or Hispanic

Difference Between Normative And Informational Social...
Normative and informational social influence Normative influence primarily occurs in situations
where an individual, when amidst others in a crowd, tend to go along with them primarily in order to
be liked and accepted by them as part of their fraternity. Research has identified that normative
inference normally occurs as an inborn human nature as human beings tends to associate themselves
with others in order to maintain a good social contact and relationship with them. Ideally, normative
influence is normally furthered by the need for an individual to increase their chances of surviving
especially during adverse conditions. This entails that people may at times seem to agree with others
just in order for them to appease themselves to them and avoid potential conflict of standing alone
and standing out. In some situations normative influence may occur where individuals associate
with complete strangers. In such cases, due to mutual fear for each other, an individual may
naturally try to agree with the rest in order to avoid appearing as contradictory or controversial. On
the other hand, informational social influence involves situations where an individual may choose to
agree with others, especially the majority, due to high levels of trust that the majority have more
social power through information and knowledge regarding a particular issue as compared to the
individual on him/herself. In addition, in situations of crisis, people also tend to associate and

Education : Major Differences, Education Levels And Social...
Cornerstones that divide social classes are occupations, education and incomes and wealth. The root
of all three divisions in this writer opinion is education. With or without a formal education on
average will clump people with similar attainment and create economic commonality or attainment.
Having a formal or extended education is not always means for discernable division, but "status
groups emerge among people with similar incomes, occupations, and educations" (Marger, 2014, p.
55). Similar behaviors, beliefs and values are expressed relatively to a point with social mobility.
Extended or the attainment of higher educational levels are linked to social esteem and provide
privileges that accompany the corresponding education. As a person attains more education, they
essentially displace themselves farther from the lower classes and less paying positions. This could
generate inequalities and division of classes. "the possession of the means of production is one of
the most important sources of power and stratification in society" (Lavrentsova, 2010, p. 257). In
contrast, with contemporary societies characteristics like educational level, profession, appearance,
manners and lifestyle become much more important in determining the personal social status.
Many of the occupational handicaps are derived from generally low educational level, especially
form the poor or lower classes. Within the ranks of the lower and poor classes many individuals do

(b)
* Financial Factors – Some parents may earn more money than others so they can afford to choose
which school the child goes to.

These were set up to provide one type of school for all students. There were no entry requirements

(f) Assess the view that schools and what takes place within them are the main causes of social class
difference in educational achievement.
The above question is telling us that school and the education system are what cause social class.
Social class is where people have similar positions usually measures by education, occupation and
income. In my essay will include sociological evidence and theories exploring if social class is due
to schools and what goes on in them.
The first piece of evidence we can use to support the above statement is a Marxist point of view
about education. Bowles and Gintis (71) argue that meritocracy (your social position is based on
your effort and ability) is a myth. He believes that the educational system works against the interests
of the working class. Their correspondence theory they argued that there were a correspondence
between the social relationships at school to the social relationships at work. An example of this is
schools and work reward on external principals. In school you get rewarded with certificates, while
in work you are paid a wage. This relates to the question because it shows that

Difference Between Social Media And Media

USA Presidency As we all know that social media has been one of the best source for proper means
of communication, people have been using it to communicate with each other, and not only that but
they are posting various things on social media as well. 1 Twitter and Facebook are one of the most
popular social media which are used by most of the people. It has been widely popular that even
celebrities and politician uses them on a regular basis. The only difference between normal people
using a social media and celebrities or politician using a social media is that the politician or
celebrities have to be more careful while posting their thoughts. They are the famous people in the
society and are followed by most people. Their posts are been looked upon by thousands of people
and are criticized as well. If one's post something that is very unacceptable or offending than his/her
reputation is going to fall way beyond the line. As they are represented as the successful person in
the society, they have to be very careful on taking every steps in their life because people will be
watching them every time trying to make a headline. Same goes to the elected leaders because we
have seen them being active on social media where they are talking about different topics and
posting about it.
I think that the social media is a great platform for the politicians to communicate with the citizens

Difference Between Social And Social Psychology
Social Psychology and Multicultural Psychology Paper
i. Define social psychology.
Social psychology is the science that aims to determine how people think about, relate to, feel about,
and influence one another. Social psychology is a branch of study on social influence, how
individuals have an influence on one another. Social influence is noted to affect trivial behaviours,
such as making paper airplanes in class, as well as important behaviour, such as giving in to
majority opinion over one's judgement. It is an attempt to understand and lay down how thought,
behaviour, feeling of a person is affected by the actual, implied, imagined, presence of other people.
For example, the social influence of social psychology can be demonstrated with an instance
involving Kim, ken, and their friend's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a person bending to the majority people's decision over one's judgment on an issue is a
social influence by the presence of others. Second, the phrase actual presence of others implies a
physical appearance in the place to influence thought or feelings. Imagined presence makes people
regulate their behaviour according to the reactions that they imagine people will give about the
behaviour. The implied presence is demonstrated by the people automatically obeying social
artefacts, such as streetlights, or other objects such as a black, may imply the presence of a person.
ii. Describe the primary research strategies used in social psychology and give an example of each.
There are three different types of primary research strategies that can be used with social
psychology. They are descriptive, experimental, and correlation research methods. The research
methods differ in the kind of hypothesis each investigates, and the issues it raise.

Class and Social Difference in "Blood Brothers" by Willy...
In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class family
and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and 70's,
resulting in The Recession in the early 1980's. There is a twist on the fact that they are just two
opposite class families – Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however
Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle class family. By using these
two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very
extreme way. Seeing the different class upbringings teaches us about Nature vs. Nurture in society.

This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class
family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this strong
language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the classes. The
audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite
humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when really,
as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think Russell is positively
biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly because Mickey is from a lower
class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small
things he loves to play with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he
doesn't make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the boy's
don't seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they seem like two, normal,
seven year old friends even though the difference between the two classes is very obvious. I think
this helps to introduce the differences lightly to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the
drama that comes, later on in the play.
As the boys grow older, their different classes become more significant to the play. Edward goes off

American Social Class Differences
Social Class Differences According to Brenda Allen in her book Difference Matters, social class is
associated with the allocation of power and resources. It is a stratification system that is one of the
biggest predictors of academic achievement. It is widely held in the US that the more financial,
cultural, and social capital (Bourdieu) you have, the more likely you will get a better quality
education that will lead to a higher paying job. In the film, Idris and Seun come from different class
backgrounds. Even though they are both considered as members of the middle–class, Idris seems to
have more capital because both of his parents are successful professionals who are Ivy League
graduates. Seun's parents do not have the prestigious Ivy League background that Idris's parents do,
but they are graduates of Bingham University. His mother Stacey is a nurse care manager and his
father Tony is a systems engineer. Idris's parents are seen as being stricter on Idris to perform well in

Gender Gap," Francine Blau and Larence Kahn state that the US fosters a strong commitment to
gender equality however the gender pay gap is larger than in most other countries. The systematic
and institutional inequality that the system requires points to recurring problems of existing gender
inequity. In the film, the boys do not experience the disadvantage of being female in a society that
has a dominant ideology of patriarchy. However, it is true for African American boys "to be held
back in elementary school, [are] three times as likely to be suspended from school, and half as likely
to graduate from college–a phenomenon known as the black male achievement gap." It is like that
Black males, even when given the same economic and academic resources as their peers of other
races, it is likely that they are to "fall short of their counterparts in virtually every measure of
academic success"

Social Class : Social Differences In Social Reaction?
We define social class using Côté's (2011: 5) psychological view as "...a dimension of the self that is
rooted in objective material resources (income, education, and occupational prestige) and
corresponding subjective perceptions of rank vis–a`–vis others. Social class reflects individuals'
mental representations ... of who they are, how they should relate to others, and what they should be
doing ... [leading] in turn, to specific patterns of action and cognition." Social class is a robust
predictor of how people think and act throughout their lives (Ogbu 1981). While social
psychologists are increasingly attending to the role of class differences in social interactions
(Stephens, Markus & Townsend 2007; Piff et al. 2010; Kraus et al. 2012), organizational scholars
seldom consider social class in their empirical work or theory development (Côté 2011). In limited
recent research, scholars demonstrate that formative experiences with social class affect individuals'
careers long after they have attained elite status (Kish–Gephart & Campbell, 2015; Côté, 2011). For
example, leaders' social class origins influence their propensity to take risks (Kish–Gephart &
Campbell, 2015) as well as their proclivity for narcissism (Martin, et al., 2016). Social class
background also shapes the experiences and education underpinning a career. As discussed in Côté
(2011: 47): "Access to material resources leads individuals to exhibit certain distinctions, including
the neighborhoods where they

Gender Differences Of Self Preservation On Social...
Identity is a tricky thing; because identity is never stagnant it becomes a very difficult concept to
fully understand. One individual might think a joke that has just been told was the funniest thing in
the world where a bystander might think of the joke as immature; as a result of this, the one who
thought the joke was hilarious instantaneously has a different opinion of the person who told the
joke than the bystander, creating two separate identities for the joke teller. The academic article
"Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus? Examining Gender Differences in Self–Preservation

and Jana Vanessa Kruck studies how the genders use different methods of self–preservation as a
mean of showcasing to the world the best version of themselves when creating online social network
profiles. While not all of their research methods should be considered valid or statistically
significant, the study does reveal various differences in the methods men and women use to skew
their online identity. Through the use of a voluntary online survey and content analysis of users
profiles, the authors try to find statistical evidence of the difference between the genders purpose,
use, and self–presentation techniques, requiring the reader to analyze the ways in which their use of
social network sites is used to skew their real life identity. In order to collect the data necessary to

Classism: Difference Between Social Classes In The Red...
Classism is the biased or discriminatory attitude based on the difference between social classes. In
the red queen, there were two major groups, who had conflicts. They were the Silvers and the Reds.
The silvers were considered elite and godly. For example, Maven had a power that could control
fire. On the other hand, Reds like Kilorn had red blood and did not have powers. Since the silvers
had powers, they also had more status and money. Whereas, reds had to work normal jobs for the
silvers or go to war. During the story, the reader discovered that there was a group of people like

Recreation: Difference Between Social Equity And Equality
Inclusivity is at the root for Recreation, Parks, & Tourism ideals because it provides opportunities
for all people. Whether it is an experience or an event, the recreation movement and important
people, such as Jane Addams, have advocated for the inclusivity for all different kinds of people.
Inclusivity is about recognizing and including people, or groups of people, who might otherwise be
excluded or marginalized. With inclusivity at its core, the recreation field should be concerned with
social equity. There is a difference between equity and equality: in a mathematical sense, equality is
about equal parts identical in size or number, whereas equity is a more flexible measure allowing for
equivalency while not demanding sameness. Social equity and inclusivity go hand in hand. To
recognize a marginalized group means that they are being included in their own way but at the same
level a more common group is recognized. Social equity implies fair access to livelihood, education,
and resources; full participation in the political and cultural life of the community; and self–
determination in meeting fundamental needs. Inclusion and social equity should be core values
given the fact that minorities are now becoming the majority; it's a time to learn and respect other
people's cultures, lifestyles, and ideas. Marginalized groups are the face of social justice issues.
Within recreation, it is imperative to listen and engage with these diverse groups. For example, the

Difference in Social Relations Between City Dwellers and...
Why are the social relations between urban and rural areas so different and what causes these
differences to occur? This question is what I am going to be arguing. I will be doing this not only
through my opinions and ideas, but also through the works of Georg Simmel, Louis Wirth and
Ernest Burgess. All three of these urban scholars add a slightly different view of urbanism as a way
of life.
Georg Simmel's interpretation of interpersonal social relations in the city is one based on the
stimulus a person comes in contact with. Simmel writes this in his essay, "The Metropolis and
Mental Life." He clearly states, "The intensification of emotional life due to the swift and
continuous shift of external and internal stimuli." (Blackwell, ... Show more content on

Simmel's work overlaps with that of Louis Wirth. Most notably their work overlaps in the struggle
to define the social relationships that are made in urban societies to those that are made in rural
communities. Wirth conveys this message in his work called, "Urbanism as a Way of Life." Wirth
writes, "The superficiality, the anonymity, and the transitory character of urban–social relations
make intelligible, also, the sophistication and the rationality generally ascribed to city dwellers."
(Metropolis, 68) Both Wirth and Simmel are aware that the social relationships of city dwellers are
ones based on intelligence and rationality and are removed of emotion. However, with Wirth, I
would like to focus on his idea that a city is not only high in population, but it is also high density
and high heterogeneity and how these things play a role in the social relationships of rural and urban
communities.
First, I would like to look at the competition levels between city dwellers and people in rural
communities. The high population and high density play a huge role in the amount of competition
that takes place in the city, compared to the amount that takes place in rural communities. The sheer
number of people and the relatively small area that they share cause the competition level to rise
exponentially. Also, the lack of emotional connections between city

Difference Between Media And Social Media
Have you ever seen the show catfish? If you have you know that Its possible for people to try to take
your identity and use it on social media to take advantage of others. There are three differences and
similarities between both your personal identity and social media. I know this because I've had my
own personal identity for eighteen years and my own social media accounts since I was thirteen
years old without parental consent. Three similarities between social media and your personal
identity are people will remember you from both, they're both important to you and describe you.
Three differences are you could hide behind social media, your personal identity is forever, and
online you could deceive people. Now that you know a few differences and similarities let me
explain to you a little bit of the knowledge I have on these two topics.
When you sign up for any type of social media account overtime you will accumulate loads of
friends and even family. Some of those people you added or followed on your page you may not
even know but they've been your friend on social media for the longest. They will remember you
especially if they pay attention to your posts. On Facebook, if someone passes away they set up the
deceased person account to where people could post the memories they have with their loved one.
Also, put "remembering" in front of that person's name. In person, your friends and family will
remember the impact you made in their lives. Your smile, laughter, your

Poverty is the Main Cause of Social Class Differences in Educational Achievement
This essay will assess the view that poverty is the main cause of social class differences in
educational achievement. There are many causes of these differences which can be linked to cultural
deprivation, and will be discussed in this essay.
Material deprivation is lack of money and things which money can buy, and is the main cause of
poverty. Item B suggests that that this is the main cause of social class differences in educational
achievement as it says that most truants come from poor working class backgrounds and are less
likely than their middle class counter parts to obtain a good formal education. ... Show more content

Douglas 1964, claimed that middle class children received more attention and encouragement from
their parents which was the single most important factor affecting their attainment whereas working
class pupils received little encouragement and lacked the motivation to succeed at school.
Also sugarman believed that the working class subculture was fatalistic, concerned with immediate
gratification and present time orientated. This meant that they wanted to earn money straight away
rather than sacrifice for the future. Middle classes were however prepeared to sacrifice for the
future–they were future time orientated and concerned with deferred gratification. However a
criticism of immediate gratification in this case is that the students aren't usually sacrificing as the
first year of uni is enjoyable.
In addition to this Basil Bernsteins research shows that schools can contribute to social class
differences in educational achievement and his research did not support the view that poverty is the
main cause. He claimed that there were two forms of speech patterns–restricted code and elaborated
code. The restricted code was a kind of shorthand speech which was used by working class children
and the elaborated code spelled out meanings and details. Middle class children are socialised in
both forms of speech–teachers use the elaborated code

Difference Between Education And Social Class
Social class in education can be distinguished in many ways such as power, authority, and wealth. In
which these contributed to children inequalities education, since children with low income have less
possibilities. Since ancient times people have been debating whether social class is a factor of a
child education. In the article, "Education and inequality: historical and sociological approaches to
schooling and social stratification", says that, "Numerous sociological studies have documented the
extent of achievement gaps, in the United States and internationally.4 In the simplest terms, students
from higher social classes have higher achievement levels than students from lower social classes",
(Susan F, 2).This quote explained how is the gap between lower class and social class. We can see
that this is an important issue to those young people who want to improve their style of live and be a
better someone or a better person in the future have less opportunities than those of the higher class
and these people from the lower class feel unfair that just because you are born with a gold spoon
does not mean, you are a better or intelligent person than any of them. Thus, i believe that social
education it's more than just a matter that has been happening today's date, but it has been since
many, many, years ago in which these experts Alan R. Sadovnik and Susan F. Semelb dwell from the
beginning to today's date how social class have affect education and how this prove

Social Differences Of The European Way Of Life In Colonial...
Although undoubtedly influenced by England, the American Colonies formed their own unique way
of life. One aspect much like England is the layout of the town and its house, especially in Salem,
was rather haphazard with streets and alleys crossing at irregular angles. Unlike Europe, property
ownership was not the only way to ensure a fortune, a considerable number of Americans found
New Money through their occupation. The upset of wealth standards also led to the development of
different and more varied social groups and hierarchies. The different classes had different cuisine
and past–times as well, with the higher class being more European in nature. Travel was an
interesting affair in America, with the land's rather extreme weather and the limited forms of
transportation. Life in Colonial America, and specifically Salem, was significantly different to that
experienced in England due to the difference in lodging, occupations, social groups, leisure, and
environment.
Since there was less of a social divide between the colonist when they settled, most of the time the
poor and rich lived right next to each other, with no distinct neighborhoods. This led to a slight
reconciliation between the classes, drawing them together. The people were still aware of the status
of the elite, but they were no longer physically separated as they were in England. One method of
acknowledgement is that whenever a noteworthy family moved or built a house on a street, said
street gained the

Social Class Differences In American Culture
In American culture, most parents would say that they are doing a satisfactory job at raising their
children; yet, each family raise their children so differently. The differences are clearly seen when
compared by class.
In the upper classes (high class to upper middle class), children are given hundreds of learning
opportunities and are taught to value education at a much earlier age. They are put into expensive
day cares that require competitive applications, after–school art and sport programs, and enrichment
clubs that ensure they are building a foundation that will prepare them for success. These enriching
opportunities are only feasible because parents from the upper class have the money and the time to
pour into their children, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is socially interesting how the differing child rearing techniques, which are influenced by cultural
values are manifesting and influencing the children's later achieved statuses. The lower classes lack

Difference Between Feminist And Social Contract Theory
There are so many similarities as well as difference between Feminist Care Ethics and Rawlsian
Social contract Theory. Before we compare and contrast two theories with each other, first we need
to understand what exactly the philosophical theories of Feminist Ethics and Rawlsian Social
Contract Theories are. These two theories both try to solve the issues of equally and justice in
similar yet different ways. In one of John Rawls writings, A Theory of Justice, discusses the theory
of Social Contract Theory. In his writing, he believes that is the best approach to have justice in
society is to have all the following concepts: The Original Position, Veil of Ignorance and two
Principles of Justice. All the ideas that he comes up were inspired from Immanuel Kant's Universal
Moral Law. John Rawls believes we have the ability to reason from a universal perspective. Under
this idea, people can look at a situation from an impartial viewpoint to make moral judgements. The
idea of Original Position, can only be used in hypothetical experiment. Original positions prevents
us from having any knowledge about themselves. This prevents us from knowing what our place in
society, social class, position, social status, natural assets, intelligence, strength etc. Essentially this
concept is to block us from coming up with ideas that will affect the ideas of justice. In this way we
would create fair laws that would not benefit or against toward certain age, sex, race or social
statues etc. If

Social Differences And Social Norms
Social norms can generally be defined as the set of abstract or concrete rules and regulations given
by a society. Social norms often tell individuals how to behave in most, if not all, aspects of their
lives. Values, beliefs, behaviors, morals, and attitudes are all taken into consideration when deciding
whether or not one wants to follow the social norm. Whether it be at school, the workplace, church,
or at home, people are faced with a slew of decisions they need to make on a daily basis. These
decisions, however, are often influenced by society rather than their own conscience. When a
society implements a set of expected behaviors, problems are bound to arise due to diversity
amongst humans. There must have been a time in society where social norms needed to be
implemented. That being said, it is clear that social norms have a direct correlation with the time
period. For example, social norms in the 1800s are a lot different than social norms in today's
society. In the 1800's, slavery in the south still existed. It was socially acceptable for slaves to be
owned and traded. According to a blog at Vanderbilt University, "Social norms are dynamic –
slavery, racial segregation, and sexual discrimination were all considered morally acceptable in the
past but are now not only morally unacceptable but are also against the law" (Social Norms and the
Law). Social norms are brought into society when there is a logical reasoning for them. For
example, the South in the

Difference Between Social Security Disability And SSI
What Is the Difference Between Social Security Disability (SSDI) and Social Security Supplemental
Income SSI?
Many individuals are confused as the eligibility criteria for the two disability programs administered
by the Social Security Administration. The confusion most likely occurs because both disability
programs use the same medical determination process. However, it is the non–disability criteria that
separate the two programs: Social Security disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
disability.
In a nutshell, The main difference between SSDI and SSI is the fact that SSD is available to workers
who have accumulated a sufficient number of work quarters/credits, while SSI disability benefits are

SSI eligibility depends upon an individual's income and resources, because it is a need–based
disability program. Currently, the resource limit for an individual is $2000.00 and the couple's limit
is $3000.00. Resources are cash on hand, bank accounts, land other than where an individual or
couple reside, vehicles other than the highest valued, heir property, 401Ks, stocks, bonds, etc.
If an individual meets the resource limit (i.e. asset limit), they still have to meet an income limit.
Income is defined as wages, pensions, unemployment benefits, short or long term disability benefits,
rental income etc.
In both SSDI and SSI cases, an individual's medical records will be checked periodically to be sure
the individual is still disabled.

which is much better than hundreds years ago. However, as Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, "Frailty,
thy name is woman!", this was a problem in the past, and will be a problem in the future. People
should consider this problem in marriage. Women are hard to find jobs and promotions. Though law
enforces firms to hire women, they are still suffering discrimination. This problem leads to a weak
position for women in the marriage. Spontaneously, women need financial support from their
husbands. As takers, women lose their initiatives in families. In some sense, they become appending
to their husbands. In case marriages broke, they will be left forlorn and without a protector. In
China, women are going to live with their husbands, sometimes with the whole family of their
husbands. Women need to handle many complex relationships with husbands' families. In a big
family, they are always considered as strangers, making them unable to deal with family issues.
What's worse, they are even considered only as fertility tools sometimes. What they can do is to give
a son to their husband's family. On the contrary, men are free to go to work, to enjoy and to play
outside. Marriage means they have a fulltime housekeeper in their home. Women are locked after

preventing tyranny. Despotism in Europe, which was characterized by governmental infringements
called for formation of rigid shield of individual liberty. The then prevailing legal theory emphasized
on liberty such that the law rendered governments able in guaranteeing individual rights. Social

Where Locke's theory implies a more bidirectional relation between the population and the state

together comfortably and peacefully if governed. All people are equal and are entitled to freedom
and protection. Peace is seen as a norm that needs to be enforced through violent measures at times,
to protect the whole. Each individual is aware of social morals of right and wrong and sometimes
the few good people tend to ignore what is right or wrong for self–interests. To achieve impartial
justice as an absolute goal, policing through governmental oversight is necessary (Souryal, 2007).

Labeling theory is also to deterministic; it says that once you're negatively labeled that's it, you'll fail
– this isn't always the case. Some sociologist may argue that even though working class students are
often labeled and streamed into low achieving section, they are far from discouraging students, it
often makes students more likely to want to work hard to prove their teachers wrong. This was
proved in research in which black young girls were streamed into lower ability classes, and were
then determined to do better than they would have if they were labeled as high achievers.
Negative labelling and putting students into different streams or bands can cause some pupils to

pupils may form antmaxine hingstoni–school subcultures – or vice versa and create a pro–school

Difference Between Social Phobias
Social fear dates back to 400 B.C. and was referenced to by Hippocrates as someone who "loves
darkness as life" (Cunic). Social phobia and social neurosis were terms they started using in the
early 1900s to refer to extremely shy patients. In the 1960s, Isaac Marks proposed that social
phobias may be separated from the other simple phobias and in the second edition of the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, social fears were described as specific phobia and the
definition was very narrow (Cunic). In the later editions of the DSM, they made many revisions to
the criteria for the disorder. They added that it was the fear of performance situations, the symptoms

Both face severe anxiety, but for different reasons. The symptoms while having the anxiety are
similar which is why they can be confused. When people have attacks in panic disorder, they feel
that they experienced it because something is physically wrong with them. For example, they may
feel as if they are having a heart attack. They believe that their anxiety and attacks are related to
something physical. People with social phobia do not believe that their anxiety is related to
something physical. Another difference between the two is that people with panic disorder tend to be
very social. People with social phobia will not develop agoraphobia, fear of having another panic
attack, but may develop avoidant personality disorder, people cut themselves off from the world in
fear of others and social interactions. The same goes for panic disorder. However, both may turn to
alcohol and substance abuse to reduce the anxiety. To differentiate between the two, the source of
the anxiety needs to be determined. If it is a fear of a physical condition, than it is panic disorder. If
it is a fear of social interaction than it is social

Social Stratification And Its Effects On Physical And...
For as long as there has awareness of physical differences in people there has been social
stratification. Social stratification is the separation of based on physical and mental differences.
Every society exhibits a pattern of separation between its people. We will focus mainly on the
United States and how they organize people based on the three main organizing principles, class,
race, and gender. Social class is defines as "the grouping of individuals by economic position"
(Larkin, Para. 9). Members of each social class share similar income, wealth, lifestyle, social norms,
behaviors, and life opportunities. Sociology theorists Dennis Gilbert and Joseph A. Kahl developed
a six class stratification system by grouping individuals by education, income, and occupation. The
six classes are capitalist or elites, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, working–
poor class, and underclass. There is a huge difference in the income and education levels between
the capitalist class and the underclass. The capitalist class, for example, makes on average about two
to four million dollars per year, while the underclass makes less than twelve thousand per year. The
one percent of people in the capitalist class have high degrees of education from well known,
prestigious universities, while the underclass, the bottom five percent of people, may sometimes not
even have a high school diploma. It is very difficult for someone to move up a class, but is easy

Social Homogamy : Social Differences Between Marriage And...
When looking for a partner to settle down with, one usually seeks someone who is similar to them.
They might look for individuals with similar hobbies, beliefs or even age. The reason behind this is
due to a theory known as Social Homogamy. Social Homogamy is when individuals are attracted to
a person of a similar ethnicity, race, age, or maybe even beliefs. (Gonzalez, n.d). Due to this, there is
ultimately a correlation between sameness and compatibility as when people are more alike they
might relate and get along better. When people see others who are like them, they subconsciously
become attracted to them along with having feelings of trust and comfort (Patel, 2017). This
eventually leads to a closer bond and possibly a more successful relationship (Patel, 2017). The
purpose of this research is to examine why marrying within a specific social group is more
advantageous than marrying an individual of a different social group. Firstly, individuals of different
social classes tend to have different norms, and this leads to key differences. Secondly, the
distinctions in age groups between the couple can negatively affect a couple's marriage due to
dissimilarity, thus leading to dispute. Lastly, when a partner of an individual is from the same or
similar social group, they will fit in and better adapt to their partner's lifestyle. Therefore, marrying
within the same social group is more advantageous than being with a partner opposite to them. This

Social Class Differences On The Long Run Essay
Income equality has been on a steady rise since 1970 in both the United States and Europe. Over the
past several years, many researchers, such as Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez have been
conducting and publishing empirical studies which indicate that economic inequality is growing in
wealthy countries, like those in Europe and the United States. In fact, according to a graph published
in Piketty and Saez's study "Inequality in the Long Run," both the United States and Europe's
income and wealth inequality generally decreased from 1900–1970, and then started increasing in
the time period after that. The results of this study suggest that social class differences may be
growing in the long run. This paper will examine this graph from the perspectives of both Adam
Smith and Karl Marx. Using Marx and Smith's findings in German Ideology and Wealth of Nations,
this paper will discuss Marx and Smith's main theories on capitalism and describe how these
theories can be applied to the interpretation of the graphs in the study "Inequality in the Long Run."
This paper will also discuss the similarities and differences between Smith and Marx's interpretation
of the data.
Smith's theory of capitalism, described in his book Wealth of Nations, discusses the ideas of the
division of labor, self–interest, and the real value of products. According to Smith, the division of
labor arises from a human's ability to exchange goods. In the Wealth of Nations, Smith discusses

Individual Differences Between Teachers and Students on Social Media

  • 1. Individual Differences Involving Teachers and Students on... Running head: INDIVIDUAL DIFFEENCES INVOLVING STUDENT AND TEACHERS INDIVIDUAL DIFFEENCES INVOLVING TEACHERS AND STUDENT ON SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES Rosie Davis South University Dr. Zerilli Abstract In today's society lines are being blurred as to what is acceptable and what is not. I feel that no matter how advanced we as a whole become, it is never acceptable for a teacher to be anything other than a mentor and a guide to a student. Therefore, my theory is that a teacher will not accept advances from a student offering friendship on social media sites. According to multiple rating sites, Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are found around the world by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when the teachers didn't have Facebook or Twitter they had to resort to the old fashioned way: in class assignments, face–to–face interactions, or email which was just effective. If it gets to a point when a student or teacher are lacking and needing sufficient info that they can't solve the old fashion way, then you can really get old school by having a student / teacher conferences. It has and will always be effective than networking sites. Socializing skills are best learned in real life. When I asked another colleague of mines on her opinion on student and teachers being friends on Facebook and Twitter she stated; "I definitely do not like it because my daughter posted something on Facebook in regards of her and her boyfriend getting into an argument and that she was breaking up with him. The next day the when she got to class her teacher came up to her and asked her was she alright and that she would find another boyfriend soon". My daughter was stunned and ashamed at the same time. And that caused her not to post anything personal on her page again. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have been created to allow open lines of communication between family and friends. They are networks that allow people to share personal information, photos, and much more. They also allow you to open up your feelings and concerns to different friends and family and your ... • 3. Assess the View That Social Class Differences in... Assess the view that social class differences in educational achievement are the result of school processes such as labeling. (20 marks) Labelling refers to meanings or definitions we attach to someone or something to make sense of them and these could be negative or positive labels. For example, in schools teachers are likely to label middle–class pupils as bright and more able to achieve in education whereas, they would see working class pupils as less able. Teacher labels can affect a pupil's educational achievement as it will influence how they perform educationally. However, there are other school factors which cause underachievement and these are, the self– fulfilling prophecy, streaming and pupil subculture. There have been a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, teachers may give a negative label to a working class pupil and see them as badly behaved as a result, the pupil would accept that label and live up to it. Therefore, pupils given negative labels may see themselves as failures and give up trying consequently, fulfilling the original prophecy. Some sociologists would argue that streaming can affect a pupil's educational achievement. Streaming refers to separating children into different ability groups or classes called 'streams'. Each group is then taught separately, according to their ability for all subjects. In Becker's study, teachers did not see working–class children as ideal pupils and were seen as lacking ability therefore, they were placed in a lower stream. This leads to self–fulfilling prophecy as pupils except their teachers' low expectations by under–achieving. For example, Douglas found that children placed in a lower stream at the age of 8 suffered a decline in their IQ score by the age of 11. In addition, sociologists would argue that pupil subcultures affect the pupils' educational achievement. For example, the pro–school subculture contains pupils who have been placed in higher streams and are committed to school values. Theses pupils are more likely to be middle–class therefore they tend to achieve in education. However, the anti–school subculture contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Differences Of Social Class And Inequality Of Class Social class and equality of class' has come a long way, from racial struggles all the way to woman suffrage. Although, with these advances there are still differences between social class' that bring out a serious sense of inequality. Some of the social class differences could be because of things such as: a family's income, race, and someone's educational level. There are social "standards" that can limit certain class' abilities to accomplish high reaching goals. There are some people that truly believe that if someone is to fall under a labelled category, that they may not be as qualified as another person because of something out of their control. There is a disagreement on what abilities lower class families have against a higher class family. Lower class is defined as "the lowest social rank or standing due to low income, lack of skills or education, and the like", while a high class is deemed naturally superior in all qualities. In Angela Locke's article "Born Poor and Smart" she makes the comment about her mother that says, "She did things that poor people aren't supposed to do"(338). What she means by "things poor people aren't supposed to do" was that her mother educated her children extremely well and this lead to a high intelligence level in her kids. Locke's mother providing this for her children opened up opportunities for them that would not have gotten otherwise. According to Brink Lindsey in his article "Culture of Success" this should not have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Difference Between Natural Science And Social Science Above all else, the aim of science is to produce knowledge; that is, science aims to produce a set of verified statements about phenomena and their varying relationships. Scientists obtain this knowledge through a systematic procedure generally including identification, observation, description, classification, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomenon. Of all that can be observed by science, there is understood to be two separate types of phenomena: natural (that which exists independently of human interaction) and social (that which exists only because of human interaction). As science primarily observes phenomena in order to gain knowledge, the sciences are consequently broken up into two divisions that independently study the two divisions of phenomena; the two divisions of science are thus natural science and social science. Furthermore, it is a common consensus in the scientific community that natural scientists "know" more than social scientists. Though seemingly derogatory, the phrase remains true as natural scientists indeed have more knowledge of the phenomena they study than do social scientists; this exists only as a result of four unique qualities of social phenomena as compared to natural phenomena. As all phenomenon that can be observed can be certainly divided into two categories, science as a pursuit to observe phenomena must consequently be divided into the two categories that separately study these. Natural phenomena is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Differences Social Class and Success The True Purpose of Compulsory Education in American Schools Connie Nollner University of Alaska Anchorage Presented to Victoria Sansome In partial fulfillment of the requirements For ENGL A111 Abstract John Gatto, a school teacher in the Manhattan area, taught for thirty years at a variety of different schools. During these years, he realized that children were frequently bored with classroom activities as a result of how they were being taught. Students were not being challenged and often already knew the concepts behind the materials taught. Jean Anyon further supports and agrees with Gatto's statements about the public school system. In her article, she specifies that schools in wealthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, compulsory education is designed to keep the majority of the population in the lower class by making children "manageable." Students are separated out according to intellectual abilities, social class, and even by the Darwinian theory of "the favorite race." The children are then further sorted based on subject, grades, ranking on tests, or by other means, allowing schools to control who will advance or stay behind. Compulsory education is intended to prevent children from ever truly growing up or seeking their potential in life. The outcome of this is that they are not advancing to become complete adults in our society. As Dr. Inglis said "if children could be cloistered with other children, stripped of responsibility and independence, encouraged to develop only the trivializing emotions of greed, envy, jealousy, and fear, they would grow older but never truly grow up." (Inglis, A., 1918) The first of the six purposes, the adjustive or adaptive function, is used to establish fixed habits of reaction to authority. Gatto feels this is directly connected to why children are frequently bored in school. He claims that this prevents critical thinking altogether and does away with the idea that useful and interesting subjects should be taught because as he states, "you can't test for reflexive obedience until you know whether you can make kids learn, and ... • 11. Differences Between The Social And Private Spaces Essay In all parts of the world, spaces are separated based on affluence with the rich receiving more privileges and advantages. São Paulo is no different in this retrospect with economic segregation dividing the city and its urbanites. Derek Pardue's "In Motion: Transportation and Knowledge in São Paulo" discusses the relationship between the social differences and spaces in São Paulo. Throughout the article, he examines the spaces of the city to gain an understanding of the urbanites and their life regarding their mentality, customs, social class, and etc. He emphasizes the clear division between the poor and wealthy and the impact it relays as a result. One of the important points he implores is how the public and private spaces are separated according to wealth with the affluent accessible to more spaces and able to receive more privacy. While, the other crucial point he stresses is the division of the people based on wealth and how "certain truths about social class" can be discovered through the mode of transportation in regards to the bus, private automobile, and the train (157). Clearly, São Paulo is separated by social class through spaces and mode of transportations. One of the important points Pardue stresses is spaces. Spaces play an integral part in understanding the formation of the socioeconomic structures in São Paulo. Even though the city had been long founded in 1554, it only started to gain notable ... • 13. Social And Gender Differences During The Industrial... During the industrial revolution there was great migration of workers from rural areas to the cities. Workers moved from rural area to the urban areas for job. There was a mass scale of movement during this period that the cities were barely able to cope. They had to add roads and infrastructure, sanitation and waste management, policing and the adding parks school and collages. During this boom time not much consideration was given to gender expectations and difference. It is much later during the late nineties the city authorities started doing studies and surveys on these expectation and difference. It was more prominent in the US. American society is very stratified in social classes. They are grouped on the bases of wealth, education the type job they do and their income. American society is divided into six levels. The upper class or the wealthy (old money) like Rockefeller and Kennedy. Then there were the class with new money, the middle class, the working class, the poor working class and the poor. The urbanization was very much affected by this social difference. The experience between men and women in this urban areas and cities are totally different. This aspect of their feelings and experience were totally neglected due to the lack of knowledge and also lack of research. Gender difference is prevalent in today's society. So is social and racial difference. If one goes to the areas that fall under Section A housing, majority of residents are black or Hispanic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Difference Between Normative And Informational Social... Normative and informational social influence Normative influence primarily occurs in situations where an individual, when amidst others in a crowd, tend to go along with them primarily in order to be liked and accepted by them as part of their fraternity. Research has identified that normative inference normally occurs as an inborn human nature as human beings tends to associate themselves with others in order to maintain a good social contact and relationship with them. Ideally, normative influence is normally furthered by the need for an individual to increase their chances of surviving especially during adverse conditions. This entails that people may at times seem to agree with others just in order for them to appease themselves to them and avoid potential conflict of standing alone and standing out. In some situations normative influence may occur where individuals associate with complete strangers. In such cases, due to mutual fear for each other, an individual may naturally try to agree with the rest in order to avoid appearing as contradictory or controversial. On the other hand, informational social influence involves situations where an individual may choose to agree with others, especially the majority, due to high levels of trust that the majority have more social power through information and knowledge regarding a particular issue as compared to the individual on him/herself. In addition, in situations of crisis, people also tend to associate and exhibit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Education : Major Differences, Education Levels And Social... Cornerstones that divide social classes are occupations, education and incomes and wealth. The root of all three divisions in this writer opinion is education. With or without a formal education on average will clump people with similar attainment and create economic commonality or attainment. Having a formal or extended education is not always means for discernable division, but "status groups emerge among people with similar incomes, occupations, and educations" (Marger, 2014, p. 55). Similar behaviors, beliefs and values are expressed relatively to a point with social mobility. Extended or the attainment of higher educational levels are linked to social esteem and provide privileges that accompany the corresponding education. As a person attains more education, they essentially displace themselves farther from the lower classes and less paying positions. This could generate inequalities and division of classes. "the possession of the means of production is one of the most important sources of power and stratification in society" (Lavrentsova, 2010, p. 257). In contrast, with contemporary societies characteristics like educational level, profession, appearance, manners and lifestyle become much more important in determining the personal social status. Many of the occupational handicaps are derived from generally low educational level, especially form the poor or lower classes. The View that Schools and What Happens Within Them are the Main Causes of Social Class Difference in Educational Achievement * The reproduction of Social Class inequalities is the idea that working–class children don't succeed as well as middle–class children in education and do not possess the cultural capital required. (b) * Financial Factors – Some parents may earn more money than others so they can afford to choose which school the child goes to. * Social Class – If a parent was more Middle–Class, they would have more involvement in the Childs education and would want them to succeed better. There were no entry requirements however people were placed in sets based on ability. (f) Assess the view that schools and what takes place within them are the main causes of social class difference in educational achievement. The above question is telling us that school and the education system are what cause social class. Social class is where people have similar positions usually measures by education, occupation and income. In my essay will include sociological evidence and theories exploring if social class is due to schools and what goes on in them. The first piece of evidence we can use to support the above statement is a Marxist point of view about education. Bowles and Gintis (71) argue that meritocracy (your social position is based on your effort and ability) is a myth. He believes that the educational system works against the interests of the working class. Their correspondence theory they argued that there were a correspondence between the social relationships at school to the social relationships at work. An example of this is schools and work reward on external principals. In school you get rewarded with certificates, while in work you are paid a wage. This relates to the question because it shows that

It has been widely popular that even celebrities and politician uses them on a regular basis. The only difference between normal people using a social media and celebrities or politician using a social media is that the politician or celebrities have to be more careful while posting their thoughts. They are the famous people in the society and are followed by most people. Their posts are been looked upon by thousands of people and are criticized as well. If one's post something that is very unacceptable or offending than his/her reputation is going to fall way beyond the line. As they are represented as the successful person in the society, they have to be very careful on taking every steps in their life because people will be watching them every time trying to make a headline. Social psychology is the science that aims to determine how people think about, relate to, feel about, and influence one another. Social psychology is a branch of study on social influence, how individuals have an influence on one another. Social influence is noted to affect trivial behaviours, such as making paper airplanes in class, as well as important behaviour, such as giving in to majority opinion over one's judgement. It is an attempt to understand and lay down how thought, behaviour, feeling of a person is affected by the actual, implied, imagined, presence of other people. In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and 70's, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980's. There is a twist on the fact that they are just two opposite class families – Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle class family. By using these two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very extreme way. This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn't make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the boy's don't seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play. • 34. American Social Class Differences Social Class Differences According to Brenda Allen in her book Difference Matters, social class is associated with the allocation of power and resources. It is a stratification system that is one of the biggest predictors of academic achievement. It is widely held in the US that the more financial, cultural, and social capital (Bourdieu) you have, the more likely you will get a better quality education that will lead to a higher paying job. In the film, Idris and Seun come from different class backgrounds. Even though they are both considered as members of the middle–class, Idris seems to have more capital because both of his parents are successful professionals who are Ivy League graduates. Seun's parents do not have the prestigious Ivy League background that Idris's parents do, but they are graduates of Bingham University. His mother Stacey is a nurse care manager and his father Tony is a systems engineer. Idris's parents are seen as being stricter on Idris to perform well in school. Even though both families ... However, it is true for African American boys "to be held back in elementary school, [are] three times as likely to be suspended from school, and half as likely to graduate from college–a phenomenon known as the black male achievement gap." • 36. Social Class : Social Differences In Social Reaction? We define social class using Côté's (2011: 5) psychological view as "...a dimension of the self that is rooted in objective material resources (income, education, and occupational prestige) and corresponding subjective perceptions of rank vis–a`–vis others. Social class reflects individuals' mental representations ... of who they are, how they should relate to others, and what they should be doing ... [leading] in turn, to specific patterns of action and cognition." Social class is a robust predictor of how people think and act throughout their lives (Ogbu 1981). While social psychologists are increasingly attending to the role of class differences in social interactions (Stephens, Markus & Townsend 2007; Piff et al. 2010; Kraus et al. 2012), organizational scholars seldom consider social class in their empirical work or theory development (Côté 2011). In limited recent research, scholars demonstrate that formative experiences with social class affect individuals' careers long after they have attained elite status (Kish–Gephart & Campbell, 2015; Côté, 2011). For example, leaders' social class origins influence their propensity to take risks (Kish–Gephart & Campbell, 2015) as well as their proclivity for narcissism (Martin, et al., 2016). Social class background also shapes the experiences and education underpinning a career. As discussed in Côté (2011: 47): "Access to material resources leads individuals to exhibit certain distinctions, including the neighborhoods where they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Gender Differences Of Self Preservation On Social... Identity is a tricky thing; because identity is never stagnant it becomes a very difficult concept to fully understand. One individual might think a joke that has just been told was the funniest thing in the world where a bystander might think of the joke as immature; as a result of this, the one who thought the joke was hilarious instantaneously has a different opinion of the person who told the joke than the bystander, creating two separate identities for the joke teller. The academic article "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus? Examining Gender Differences in Self–Preservation on Social Networking Sites" by Nina Haferkamp, Sabrina C. Eimler, Anna–Margarita Papadakis, and Jana Vanessa Kruck studies how the genders use different methods of self–preservation as a mean of showcasing to the world the best version of themselves when creating online social network profiles. While not all of their research methods should be considered valid or statistically significant, the study does reveal various differences in the methods men and women use to skew their online identity. Through the use of a voluntary online survey and content analysis of users profiles, the authors try to find statistical evidence of the difference between the genders purpose, use, and self–presentation techniques, requiring the reader to analyze the ways in which their use of social network sites is used to skew their real life identity. In the red queen, there were two major groups, who had conflicts. They were the Silvers and the Reds. The silvers were considered elite and godly. For example, Maven had a power that could control fire. On the other hand, Reds like Kilorn had red blood and did not have powers. Since the silvers had powers, they also had more status and money. Whereas, reds had to work normal jobs for the silvers or go to war. During the story, the reader discovered that there was a group of people like mare, who had a mutation that allowed them to bleed red but still have silver powers. • 42. Recreation: Difference Between Social Equity And Equality Inclusivity is at the root for Recreation, Parks, & Tourism ideals because it provides opportunities for all people. Whether it is an experience or an event, the recreation movement and important people, such as Jane Addams, have advocated for the inclusivity for all different kinds of people. Inclusivity is about recognizing and including people, or groups of people, who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized. With inclusivity at its core, the recreation field should be concerned with social equity. There is a difference between equity and equality: in a mathematical sense, equality is about equal parts identical in size or number, whereas equity is a more flexible measure allowing for equivalency while not demanding sameness. Social equity and inclusivity go hand in hand. To recognize a marginalized group means that they are being included in their own way but at the same level a more common group is recognized. Social equity implies fair access to livelihood, education, and resources; full participation in the political and cultural life of the community; and self– determination in meeting fundamental needs. Inclusion and social equity should be core values given the fact that minorities are now becoming the majority; it's a time to learn and respect other people's cultures, lifestyles, and ideas. Marginalized groups are the face of social justice issues. Within recreation, it is imperative to listen and engage with these diverse groups. For example, the Lavender ... This question is what I am going to be arguing. I will be doing this not only through my opinions and ideas, but also through the works of Georg Simmel, Louis Wirth and Ernest Burgess. All three of these urban scholars add a slightly different view of urbanism as a way of life. Georg Simmel's interpretation of interpersonal social relations in the city is one based on the stimulus a person comes in contact with. Simmel writes this in his essay, "The Metropolis and Mental Life." He clearly states, "The intensification of emotional life due to the swift and continuous shift of external and internal stimuli." (Blackwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simmel's work overlaps with that of Louis Wirth. Most notably their work overlaps in the struggle to define the social relationships that are made in urban societies to those that are made in rural communities. Wirth conveys this message in his work called, "Urbanism as a Way of Life." Wirth writes, "The superficiality, the anonymity, and the transitory character of urban–social relations make intelligible, also, the sophistication and the rationality generally ascribed to city dwellers." (Metropolis, 68) Both Wirth and Simmel are aware that the social relationships of city dwellers are ones based on intelligence and rationality and are removed of emotion. However, with Wirth, I would like to focus on his idea that a city is not only high in population, but it is also high density and high heterogeneity and how these things play a role in the social relationships of rural and urban communities. First, I would like to look at the competition levels between city dwellers and people in rural communities. The high population and high density play a huge role in the amount of competition that takes place in the city, compared to the amount that takes place in rural communities. The sheer number of people and the relatively small area that they share cause the competition level to rise exponentially. Also, the lack of emotional connections between city ... Poverty is the Main Cause of Social Class Differences in Educational Achievement This essay will assess the view that poverty is the main cause of social class differences in educational achievement. There are many causes of these differences which can be linked to cultural deprivation, and will be discussed in this essay. Material deprivation is lack of money and things which money can buy, and is the main cause of poverty. Item B suggests that that this is the main cause of social class differences in educational achievement as it says that most truants come from poor working class backgrounds and are less likely than their middle class counter parts to obtain a good formal education. ... This meant that they wanted to earn money straight away rather than sacrifice for the future. However a criticism of immediate gratification in this case is that the students aren't usually sacrificing as the first year of uni is enjoyable. In which these contributed to children inequalities education, since children with low income have less possibilities. Since ancient times people have been debating whether social class is a factor of a child education. In the article, "Education and inequality: historical and sociological approaches to schooling and social stratification", says that, "Numerous sociological studies have documented the extent of achievement gaps, in the United States and internationally.4 In the simplest terms, students from higher social classes have higher achievement levels than students from lower social classes", (Susan F, 2).This quote explained how is the gap between lower class and social class. One aspect much like England is the layout of the town and its house, especially in Salem, was rather haphazard with streets and alleys crossing at irregular angles. Unlike Europe, property ownership was not the only way to ensure a fortune, a considerable number of Americans found New Money through their occupation. The upset of wealth standards also led to the development of different and more varied social groups and hierarchies. The different classes had different cuisine and past–times as well, with the higher class being more European in nature. Travel was an interesting affair in America, with the land's rather extreme weather and the limited forms of transportation. Life in Colonial America, and specifically Salem, was significantly different to that experienced in England due to the difference in lodging, occupations, social groups, leisure, and environment. Since there was less of a social divide between the colonist when they settled, most of the time the poor and rich lived right next to each other, with no distinct neighborhoods. This led to a slight reconciliation between the classes, drawing them together. The people were still aware of the status of the elite, but they were no longer physically separated as they were in England. The differences are clearly seen when compared by class. In the upper classes (high class to upper middle class), children are given hundreds of learning opportunities and are taught to value education at a much earlier age. They are put into expensive day cares that require competitive applications, after–school art and sport programs, and enrichment clubs that ensure they are building a foundation that will prepare them for success. Before we compare and contrast two theories with each other, first we need to understand what exactly the philosophical theories of Feminist Ethics and Rawlsian Social Contract Theories are. These two theories both try to solve the issues of equally and justice in similar yet different ways. In one of John Rawls writings, A Theory of Justice, discusses the theory of Social Contract Theory. In his writing, he believes that is the best approach to have justice in society is to have all the following concepts: The Original Position, Veil of Ignorance and two Principles of Justice. All the ideas that he comes up were inspired from Immanuel Kant's Universal Moral Law. John Rawls believes we have the ability to reason from a universal perspective. Under this idea, people can look at a situation from an impartial viewpoint to make moral judgements. The idea of Original Position, can only be used in hypothetical experiment. Original positions prevents us from having any knowledge about themselves. This prevents us from knowing what our place in society, social class, position, social status, natural assets, intelligence, strength etc. Essentially this concept is to block us from coming up with ideas that will affect the ideas of justice. • 58. Social Differences And Social Norms Social norms can generally be defined as the set of abstract or concrete rules and regulations given by a society. Social norms often tell individuals how to behave in most, if not all, aspects of their lives. Values, beliefs, behaviors, morals, and attitudes are all taken into consideration when deciding whether or not one wants to follow the social norm. Whether it be at school, the workplace, church, or at home, people are faced with a slew of decisions they need to make on a daily basis. These decisions, however, are often influenced by society rather than their own conscience. When a society implements a set of expected behaviors, problems are bound to arise due to diversity amongst humans. There must have been a time in society where social norms needed to be implemented. That being said, it is clear that social norms have a direct correlation with the time period. For example, social norms in the 1800s are a lot different than social norms in today's society. In the 1800's, slavery in the south still existed. It was socially acceptable for slaves to be owned and traded. According to a blog at Vanderbilt University, "Social norms are dynamic – slavery, racial segregation, and sexual discrimination were all considered morally acceptable in the past but are now not only morally unacceptable but are also against the law" (Social Norms and the Law). We will focus mainly on the United States and how they organize people based on the three main organizing principles, class, race, and gender. Social class is defines as "the grouping of individuals by economic position" (Larkin, Para. 9). Members of each social class share similar income, wealth, lifestyle, social norms, behaviors, and life opportunities. Sociology theorists Dennis Gilbert and Joseph A. Kahl developed a six class stratification system by grouping individuals by education, income, and occupation. The six classes are capitalist or elites, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, working– poor class, and underclass. There is a huge difference in the income and education levels between the capitalist class and the underclass. The capitalist class, for example, makes on average about two to four million dollars per year, while the underclass makes less than twelve thousand per year. The one percent of people in the capitalist class have high degrees of education from well known, prestigious universities, while the underclass, the bottom five percent of people, may sometimes not even have a high school diploma. It is very difficult for someone to move up a class, but is easy from someone to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Social Homogamy : Social Differences Between Marriage And... When looking for a partner to settle down with, one usually seeks someone who is similar to them. They might look for individuals with similar hobbies, beliefs or even age. The reason behind this is due to a theory known as Social Homogamy. Social Homogamy is when individuals are attracted to a person of a similar ethnicity, race, age, or maybe even beliefs. (Gonzalez, n.d). Due to this, there is ultimately a correlation between sameness and compatibility as when people are more alike they might relate and get along better. When people see others who are like them, they subconsciously become attracted to them along with having feelings of trust and comfort (Patel, 2017). This eventually leads to a closer bond and possibly a more successful relationship (Patel, 2017). The purpose of this research is to examine why marrying within a specific social group is more advantageous than marrying an individual of a different social group. Firstly, individuals of different social classes tend to have different norms, and this leads to key differences. Secondly, the distinctions in age groups between the couple can negatively affect a couple's marriage due to dissimilarity, thus leading to dispute. Lastly, when a partner of an individual is from the same or similar social group, they will fit in and better adapt to their partner's lifestyle. Therefore, marrying within the same social group is more advantageous than being with a partner opposite to them. This can be proven through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Social Class Differences On The Long Run Essay Income equality has been on a steady rise since 1970 in both the United States and Europe. Over the past several years, many researchers, such as Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez have been conducting and publishing empirical studies which indicate that economic inequality is growing in wealthy countries, like those in Europe and the United States. In fact, according to a graph published in Piketty and Saez's study "Inequality in the Long Run," both the United States and Europe's income and wealth inequality generally decreased from 1900–1970, and then started increasing in the time period after that. The results of this study suggest that social class differences may be growing in the long run. This paper will examine this graph from the perspectives of both Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Using Marx and Smith's findings in German Ideology and Wealth of Nations, this paper will discuss Marx and Smith's main theories on capitalism and describe how these theories can be applied to the interpretation of the graphs in the study "Inequality in the Long Run." This paper will also discuss the similarities and differences between Smith and Marx's interpretation of the data. Smith's theory of capitalism, described in his book Wealth of Nations, discusses the ideas of the division of labor, self–interest, and the real value of products. According to Smith, the division of labor arises from a human's ability to exchange goods. In the Wealth of Nations, Smith discusses how it is a part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
