D i e F a m i l i e
Lesson Goals: At the end of this German lesson, the students should learn
and be able to use vocabulary identifying the different
members of the family.
Target Vocabulary: Family Members
Presentation:
Step 1: Teacher
- shows a photo of a family in order to introduce the new topic,
- explains that there might be more similarities between German and English, which
will help them learn the new vocabulary easier.
Step 2:
- S. take their tablets and start scanning the QR-codes.
(“Behind” these codes there are messages on what they have to do, links to internet
pages or games.)
in German and to go on to QR-code 2.
Step 3:
- The 2nd
QR-code links to “Quizlet”, an online learning tool which provides free
study tools for students.
Students start learning the new vocabulary with flashcards.
Step 4:
- With the next exercise students try to identify the new words, which are hidden in
a word grid (learningapps.org).
(In this way they are getting familiar with the spelling of the new vocabulary)
Practice:
Step 1:
- Students practice the new vocabulary playing “Scatter” on Quizlet.
(They race against the clock to match terms and definitions and compete for the top score with their
partner)
Step 2:
- For further practice they get a worksheet, where they have to
a) match the word with the picture and
b) complete the names of family members
Production:
- Students ask their partners questions about their family
(What’s your father’s name? What’s your mother’s name? etc)
