2. Science Concept
The skeletal system is the framework of the
body. It supports the body thus giving it shape and
contour.
Discussion/ Analysis
There are about 206 bones in the human body. All
of these bones are attached to one another.
Altogether, these bones make up your skeletal
system.
Imagine your body without these bones. Without
them, will you able to stand erect?
4. Skull
The hard bone in the head.
The skull has 8 bones.
It protects the brain. It is hard and strong
but it can be cracked if you receive a
severe blow on the head.
Jawbone
part of your head. It has 14 facial bones.
Allows you to chew your food and speak.

5. Arms
each arm has three bones, one in the upper and two in
the lower part. Your arms extend from the shoulder to
the fingertips.
There are three large and long bones in your arms, the :
1. Humerus
2. radius
3. Ulna
The finger and toe bones are also called
phalanges

6. Rib cage
Consists of one breastbone and 24 ribs. Our ribs are
made up of twelve pairs of bones, which are
connected to the backbone.
They form a cage toward the front of the body.
The upper seven pairs of the ribs are connected to
the breastbone.
The ribs protect the heart and the lungs

7. Backbone or spinal column
A large bone that is found at the center of your back. One
end of your backbone is connected to your head and the
other end is connected to your hipbone.
The backbone is made of many small bones called the
vertebrae. There are 24 vertebrae in our backbone.
Look closely at one vertebrae, you will see an opening
through its center. The vertebrae protects the spinal
cord.
Your backbone is your main support. The small bones in
your backbone are joined to allow you to move in
different ways.

8. Hipbones
Two large bones attached to the bottom of the backbone. The
hipbones together with the backbone form the pelvic bones.
The pelvic bones hold the weight of your body.
Femur
the large bone in the upper part of each leg. This extends
from your hips to your knee. It is the largest and the longest
bone in the human body.
Tibia
the larger of the two bones in your leg. It is located to your
knee and your ankle.
Fibula
the smaller bone in the leg.
