The top 4 crime dramas in the UK this week are: 1) New Tricks on BBC1 with 8.26 million viewers, which follows old detectives solving cold cases; 2) Hunted on BBC1 with 4.50 million viewers, about a woman agent going undercover to find who attacked her; 3) Homeland on Channel 4 with 2.74 million viewers, a complex thriller about middle-aged characters; and 4) CSI Miami on Channel 5 with 1.14 million viewers, about fast-paced crime solving appealing to teens.
1. Today we looked on BARB (Broadcasters' Audience Research Board) a website used to find out which
programs on the television are watched the most. After a few minutes of scanning the site we found
the most popular crime dramas.
Top 4 Crime Programmes of this week are:
1. New Tricks bbc1 - 8.26 million
New Tricks is a crime drama aimed at older viewers, from the age of 50 who
prefer a more slow paced and relaxed TV series. It is about four old people,
three men and a woman who solve old cases (“who done it” mysteries). It is set
in England and is more realistic but also isn’t very serious.
2. Hunted bbc1 - 4.50 million
Hunted’s target audience is a young age of teens to young adults, around the
age of 15 to 30. It is a crime drama about a private inteligence agent who
survives an attack possilbymade by her own colleagues. After barely surviving
this attack and then goes undercover to find out who did it. Most of the scenes
are set in London, and the main character is the women alone. This series
contains a lot more action than new Tricks to appeal to the younger, teenage
audience.
3. Homeland channel 4 - 2.74 million
Homeland is a drama/thriller aimed at middle aged people, between the age of
30 and 50. It is a lot more complex than New Tricks and requires a lot more
thinking. There are three main characters all middle age to suit the target
audience. This series also contains a lot of action as well as investigation, hoping
to appeal better to the audience.
4. CSI Miami channel 5 - 1.14 million
CSI Miami is a drama/thriller/crime aimed at teens and young adults, from the
age of 15 to 30. It is fasted paced and is about a group of detectives who solve
crimes with complex forensics and detailed investigations. The program is less
realistic than the other series and contains a lot more action for a detective
series.
