dedicated regional and sub-regional services for its 14 licence areas in
the up and the channel islands.
ITV has a strong original drama history and is keen to keep up with this.
It also has multiple genres such as comedy, adult education and social
action and arts.
There target audience is a mainstream audience between 18-35, and at
certain times children between the ages of 0-4
The audience they target must be interested in programmes such as
Emmerdale, Trisha.
2. Examples of programmes
White chapel- Whitechapel is an on going drama series about in
which detectives in London's Whitechapel district deal with murders
which replicate historical crimes.
Breathless- Breathless is a drama series set in the 60s which
follows a group of doctors working in a busy gynaecology unit at a
London hospital.
Downton Abbey- The series, set in the Yorkshire country estate of
Downton Abbey, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family
and their servants in the post-Edwardian era—with the great events
in history having an effect on their lives and on the British social
hierarchy

BBC’s channel mainly consists of shows that target a mixture of
audiences ranging from children up to elders.
The audience must be interested in programmes like Holby city, doctor
who, in the flesh, being human.
4. Examples of programmes
In the flesh- In the flesh is set after "The Rising", this show's take on
a zombie apocalypse, and focuses on re-animated teenager Kieren
Walker as he comes back into the local community

Being human being human has 5 series and is mainly focused
around a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire trying to live a normal
life. It was one of the most popular channels on the BBC.
He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time-travelling
space ship. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which
was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired.
The doctor faces a variety of foes while working to save civilisation.
5. Channel 4 began broadcasting in 1982 it was owned by IBA
(Independent broadcasting authority). It was established to
provide a fourth television service. It became UK wide in 2010.
Channel 4 has 11 sub channels. Such as E4, Film 4 and more 4
Channel 4’s remit states that it is dedicated to providing a broad
range of media content that is high in quality.
There target audience as a whole is mainly 16-30.
They mainly target people with some time on there hands at the
end of the day and but more adult programmes on after the
watershed.
The audience must be interested in programmes like Misfits,
ugly betty and charmed.
6. Examples of programmes
Misfits- Misfits is about a group of young offenders sentenced to
work in a community service programme. Where they gain
supernatural powers after a electrical storm.
Ugly betty-Ugly betty is about a Mexican American woman who has
terrible fashion sense. She lands herself a job at a high fashion
magazine called ‘Mode’. She is the editor in chiefs son’s assistant
to curb his habit of sleeping with his assistants.
Hollyoaks- Is an on going drama of 50 main characters. It has
multiple plot lines at a time. It was devised by Phil Redmond. It is
set in the fictional suburb Hollyoaks in Chester.
