2. Within our group we had produced two adverts and a
sponsorship which was marketing our main product ‘Boo’
Hairspray. In the process of preparing and planning our
adverts we had done research on similar adverts which
marketed hair products to help us gain ideas on how to
shoot our Boo advert. We looked at many adverts
including L’Oreal Hairspray, Schwarzkopf, V05 and
Tressemme. These adverts definitely influenced us and
helped us to develop our advert. All of these adverts
shared a similar concept which was firstly selling a hair
product and secondly attracting their target audience.
3. The one which most influenced our sponsorship was the V05
advertisement
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo1I7EyOl78 we felt
that this particular advertisement interacted with the
audience more, which is what we wanted to achieve for
the adverts we were set to produce. We decided that we
would use this advert to gain ideas, such as the step by step
rule used in the V05 advert. Just like the advert we had
produced some of the elements in the V05 advert were
sped up, in order to make the advert shorter and run
quicker.

5. Our first advert (advert 1) consist of a girl waking up in the
morning and having a bad hair day, she is trying anything
and everything in order to make her hair look nice however
nothing seems to be working. She then comes across a note
left by her mother telling her to try this new ‘Boo Hairspray.’
This Cell C for Yourself advert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WZa1QpLVTI was not
exactly a hair advert, however it was where the idea of ‘a
bad hair day,’ had come from. We used concepts of the
advert such as the different ways in which her day turned
bad and came up with our own ways which related to our
advert, an example of this is when she first used a hairbrush
to get rid of the knots, then used a hair dryer and straighter
to try fixing her hair.

7. Conventions
The main conventions which are used throughout
advert are usually; props, sound effects, lighting
effects, dialogues, location, mise-en-scene, character
type and a conclusion. I believe that our all of our
adverts have kept to its conventions, an example of this
is our sponsorship which uses many things such
as, background music, props (Boo Hairspray, hair
straightener etc.), location (set in a living room) and also
dialogue which was used towards the end of the
sponsorship.
8. Conventions
When editing we put background music into it and also
edited it to a fast forward pace, whilst doing this we
were able to cut out any unnecessary scenes which
may have lengthened the piece, so cuts helped us
create a short and quick sponsorship. We ended it by
focusing the camera mainly on our product, so it is the
last thing that the viewers will see. It is a convention that
many adverts feature the main product, ours being the
‘Boo Hairspray.’
9. Conventions
Conventions were also used throughout our advert 1
and 2, for example in advert 1, the use of costume was
used frequently, when the girl woke up out of bed in her
gown showing the beginning of her bad day, and the
later showing her in her casual wear showing how
improved her day has become. I think that apart from
showing the audience how her hair has improved, the
change of costume definitely adds an effect to the
change. Dialogue was also used in advert 1, from the
beginning, middle and end. In advert 2, we used the
same thing such as props, (the Boo Hairspray, hair
band, chairs) most of these commonly used throughout
all adverts.
10. Conventions
In order to make sure our Advert could look as
professional and could flow easily as other hair
adverts, we did not want it to be too long or not
express its message well. It was simple; all that we
wanted to do is create an advert for a hairspray
product which would be best suited for everyone out
there, mainly females, which we discovered would
most likely be our target audience. In our adverts we
decided to use pop music, we felt the pop genre
would appeal to a female audience.
