Nottingham Research Paper
Intro to the City
Nottingham is an East Midlands city known for its historic architecture, legendary tales of Robin
Hood and, of course, equally legendary nights out, offering all you will need to shake off the
stresses of a long, hard week of studying. On the subject of studying, the city is home to two fine
institutions in Nottingham University and Nottingham Trent University, both of which are handily
close to the city centre, and student digs can be reached easily on the city's much–celebrated
transport system.
Nottingham combines the old with the new, offering fantastic entertainment, attractions and
shopping opportunities together with architectural surroundings and sights to behold such as
Nottingham Castle. Get to know what life is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nightlife
When the night draws in, Nottingham comes alive as a great mix students descend upon the pubs,
clubs and bars that line the city's streets. Top on many a student's list of places to start the night is
the Saltwater on Forman Street, a restaurant with great food, cocktails and a rooftop view. The Coco
Tang on Bridlesmith Gate is the ultimate place for cocktails, with many unique creations to choose
from in a glamorous setting. In terms of music, you're gonna be spoilt for choice in Nottingham.
Blues lovers will adore Tilt on Pelham Street for its intimate atmosphere and smooth sounds, while
the rockers will be drawn to the Cookie Club on St James's Street with its funk and indie vibes. To
witness a seemingly unlimited variety of live music at venues and festivals, you're in the right place.
Nottingham has the Capital FM Arena, playing host to the big names; the Rock City, where
alternative stars descend; and the Glee Club for all your folk and blues

Technology : The Causes Of Technology
Every second of everyday, people are distracted by all forms of technology. It turns out that in the
majority of cases, people are so nose–deep in their technological devices, that they do not even
notice what is going on in the world around them. Because of this, throughout the years, technology
has been the cause of a large amount of accidents and deaths. For some insane reason, it seems that
some people are just too blind to see that technology is becoming an immense distraction and it
affects everyone all over the world. The majority of people today, have easy access to some sort of
technology. In fact, in January of 2014, it was recorded in a study, done by the Pew Research
Center, that 90 percent of American adults own a cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if people deny it, everyone is guilty of checking their phones twenty–four–seven. Usually,
when people go to check their phones for a "quick second", they end up spending several minutes,
and in some situations, even hours on their phone, because of distracting social media, games, and
text messages. Recently a study was done by Nottingham Trent University, to see how much the
average person checks their phone in a day. The researchers at Nottingham Trent University, did this
by installing an app on all of the participants' phones. This app that was downloaded, recorded the
participants' total phone activity and usage, for over a total of fourteen days, (or simply, a two–week
time period). At the end of the study, the application showed the researchers roughly how much the
participants checked their phones in a day. At the end of the study, it was discovered that the average
person checks their phone eighty–five or more times a day (MailOnline). Another study, done by
Silentnight, showed how much time people today will waste away on phones and other
technological devices like computers. This study found that the average person spends eight hours
and roughly forty–one minutes on electronic devices; which is only around twenty minutes more
than an average night's sleep (MailOnline). Just by reading the information above, one could see
how technology is

Alice Walton 6 Ways Social Media Affects Our Mental Health...
Alice Walton, the author of "6 Ways Social Media Affects Our Mental Health" uses point of view,
tone, simile, and logos to effectively inform the audience of the negative effects social media has
upon the mental health of its users. Throughout the article, Walton uses these rhetorical strategies to
warn social media users of its addictive, blinding, and depressing effects. Walton uses this article to
target an audience of adult social media users. Specifically, adults who often use social media and
may not realize their dependency upon it. To reach her audience, Walton uses a first–person point of
view. Granting the text becomes more credible knowing it comes from a highly knowledgeable
person, the author strays away from ethos and does not introduce herself as an expert with a Ph.D.

This simile describes social media to be, "Like a drug, we think getting a fix will help, but it
actually makes us feel worse" (Walton). By comparing social media use to drug addiction, the
author inhabits fear into social media users. This simile continues throughout the article to show that
over–dependency and addiction are common when it comes to social media. The author states, "We
have known for some time that people who are over–dependent on digital devices report feelings of
anxiety" (Walton). Additionally, with t words related to addiction and drug–use used as descriptors
for social media such as addiction, withdrawal, and fix, the simile lingers to help demonstrate how
social media's effects can be very destructive towards one's mental health just like drug addiction.
"A study. . . found that people experienced the psychological symptoms of withdrawal when they
stopped using [social media]" (Walton). With this comparison, by the end of the article, the audience
has a sense of fear of addiction to social

The Increase in Using Technology to Cheat
The increase in using technology to cheat Cheating in the classroom has been happening since the
first schoolhouse was built; however, it has more than doubled in the last decade due to the
emergence of new technologies that give students high tech alternatives to looking at their
classmate's paper. "A 2002 survey by the Josephson Institute of Ethics of 12,000 high–school
students found that 74 % of students had cheated on an exam at least once in the previous year.
According to Donald McCabe, who conducted the Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey,
study, the Internet is partly to blame. The Internet makes plagiarism very simple. In–class cheating
has also gone high technology. Experts say students who cheat are not just ... Show more content on

Another technique of this style is outsourcing, in which term papers such as reports and essays are

with technology. Let's face it, with today's technology; cheating in school becomes so much easier.
Students can use their phones for many techniques of cheating. They can text message the answers
to fellow students, photocopies or even notes can be saved on their phones, or they can even use
SparkMobile from Spark Notes (Barnes & Noble's version of "cliff notes") which can be sent to the

Video Games : A New Era Of Entertainment
Videogames has made a new era of entertainment in society. Through the years, video games has
been a debate due to concern of one's health. On the other hand, some latest research has been done
to support that videogames are actually good for people. There are four websites that addresses the
negative and positive effect on videogames in the society. The websites are, raisesmartkids, Game
Designing, Washington Post and Livestrong. Each website has their own authority, clear disclosure
of advocacy, coverage, accuracy and currency. One may think that videogames are bad for
individuals, but can also be beneficial to individuals.
This first source that was found on this topic is called Raise Smart Kid. The use of authority has not
been identified. This website being used to describe this issue is called RaiseSmartKids. This
website does not provide the name of the author of the article; but the home page gives a
background of a female by the name of Chacha Tumbokon. According to the home page, it is
indicated that she is the one who runs the website. As far as the education and the occupation of the
person who runs the site, Chacha does not give any further information about any other credentials
of the individual. Even though the website does not provide good information about the sponsor or
the author, Chacha does have a good use of ethos by using the name of different doctors and
researchers for the topic. Such as "Dmitri A. Christakis of the Seattle Children's Research

Technology Ruining Society
As our society progresses, more and more things are becoming electronic. Everything seems to be
on some type of electronic device, and as individuals in the society we rely on our phones,
computers, ipads, ipods, and television for everything. The evolution of technology will not slow
down and it will keep progressing further and further. Soon, every single thing we do will be
electronic based if it isn't already. When I look around, I see people always on their phones and it
doesn't matter how old they are. I am growing up in an era where technology trumps all, especially
smartphones, which raises some questions. Are our technological devices ruining us? Do they
change the way we act or carry ourselves? Are they making us dumber and ... Show more content on

What exactly causes people to always be checking their phones, especially if they are already
performing another task? So, I decided to conduct a little study of my own. Although not scientific,
a friend and I did a study, which answered my final question. For three days my friend and I shut off
all of our notifications from our apps on our phones. I was quite interested in what would happen,
and the results I found were quite interesting. After shutting off our notifications we realized we
weren't checking our phones as much, which made me come to the conclusion that not only are our
smartphones the problem, but the apps we have as well. I believe that a big problem is with all the
apps people download, comes endless amounts of notifications, which causes people to check their
phones constantly. After clicking on the notification, it leads people to start browsing social media
or doing other activities on their phones. According to Jeff Stibel, a cognitive scientist and
entrepreneur, "Dopamine is a brain chemical that literally makes us happy, and it is released every
time we receive something on our phones". Every time someone hears a buzz or sees a notification
dopamine hits them right away, and it clearly explains why people are constantly checking their
phones. People find pleasure when someone comments on their post, or if they get a text message.

Essay On Minimum Wage
Minimum Wage and the Effect of Unemployment in the Low Skilled Sector
The Federal government mandates laws to help protect and serve the people of the United States of
America. Citizens always have a say in the matter with the power of their vote or by letting their
Congressional representatives know of their support or upset of the current policies. One of the most
recent concerns is that of the minimum wage and its ability to provide a living for the workers that
are at jobs that provide this minimal benefit. Although, a minimum wage increase will not provide
enough income for a current livable wage. Minimum wage jobs provide the foundations of skills for
future success for the current low–skilled sector.
As humans, we are often defined by how successful we are in life but what job we hold and what we
are doing. It is usually one of the first questions that people ask us who have not seen us in a while.
We all have to start somewhere in our careers of choice, and we get there by progressively stepping
up the ladder rungs of success that is defined by ourselves. We begin to build the ladder of success
with the education and skills that are learned from our first jobs that are more than likely going to be
minimum wage. The Greek Philosopher Diogenes explains this well "The foundation of every ...

Social networking gives them privacy as to who they want to socialize with and how, provides them
to send friend requests to people they would like to befriend, lets them estimate their social 'worth'
by depending upon the number of likes and comments as discussed above and as a part of self–
realization, they may choose how to portray themselves online. Apart from the motivations
mentioned above, cyberstalking and voyeurism may also be a possible promoter for internet use on
the darker side. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is also a persuasive factor for using internet. "FOMO
is a specific construct, or simply a component of relational insecurity as observed for example with
the attachment dimension of preoccupation with relationships in research into problematic Internet

5.1 The rationale behind this research project title is due to work experience undertaken over a
fourteen–month period within the residential sales market, working closely with mortgages. The
above working title is of interest due to many property transactions within the placement year not
completing due to the unavailability of mortgages within the UK.
5.2 The motivation behind this research project comes from the current issues within the mortgage
market, such as the decline of the availability of mortgages and affordability issues. As within a
future career in developing these could be crucial factors to a development.
5.3 Furthermore, within the built environment the economic climate is a crucial topic that can affect
both supply and demand of residential housing, and can have direct effects upon the availability of

The Positive Effects Of Facebook
One social networking service has taken the Internet by storm. The world's most popular and well–
known social networking web site, Facebook enables users to connect with friends, colleagues, and
family by sharing updates about their status, personal photos and videos, and other items of interest .
The site also allows sending personal messages or chats with other users, make public an event and
invite guests, promote various public pages, and interaction with members with common interests
(Rouse). Mark Zuckerberg, a student at Harvard University, launched "The facebook," as it was
initially know, in February 2004. It extended to various United States High Schools and other
universities in the United States such as the Ivy League, and eventually began to spread worldwide.
As of September 2006, Facebook can be used outside of educational institutions, as the site can be
used by anyone (Phillips). As of June 2017, web site has two billion monthly active users, making it
the most popular and used social networking web site (Welch). Facebook has changed the world in
numerous ways, such as faster assimilation of information, how we keep in touch with others,
express yourselves and our sentiments, and share moments of our lives in a click of a button, how
we interact each with each other, and how it displays the current events of the world (Wagner).

Analysis Of The Article 'Imagination In The...
In the article "Imagination in the Augmented–Reality Age" by Georgia Perry they talk about how
much play time (going outside and actually participating in an activity) people were getting as a kid.
Diane Levin, an education professor at Boston's Wheelock College has her student's interview
people of different age groups to see how much time they spent playing outside. The results from
her students research shows that people over the age of fifty got more play time then today's
generation. This is because of technology. According to the data, once technology (such as
televisions and gaming systems) became a thing the amount of time spent outside decreased. People

Diane Levin said "Pokémon Go is getting people outside but they're still doing a very prescribed
thing. They're still being controlled by the screen. By some classic definitions, that isn't play." Older
people use to make up games and this is good for development of the brain. Michael Rich, an
associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, said "the kind of creativity developed
through imaginative play is what eventually causes people to be able to respond proactively in the
face of failure." Because children today are more focused on video games they will not be able to
develop this trait. One thing Michael Rich said about video games is that "They don't prepare you
for failure ... They are designed to create a challenge you can ultimately succeed at so you can get to
the next level and buy the next version." Basically what he is saying is that one who is more likely
to go outside and be creative and imaginative, is going to be able to face failure rather than the one
who stays inside and watches television or plays video games. This person is also more likely to
successfully overcome failure because with being creative and imaginative comes trial and error.
This person is able to handle a situation in a reasonable manner. The person who stays inside to
watch television or play video games is not prepared to face failure because in games or on
television shows people also get another life if they die. These shows and games are not preparing
one for reality because they can possibly start to believe their life is like a video game or show and
they'll get a second chance

Essay on The Impact of Technology on Theatre
The Impact of Technology on Theatre
*No Works Cited
The history of theatre in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries is one of the increasing
commercialization of the art, accompanied by technological innovations, the introduction of serious
critical review, expansion of the subject matters portrayed to include ordinary people, and an
emphasis on more natural forms of acting. Theatre, which had been dominated by the church for
centuries, and then by the tastes of monarchs for more than 200 years, became accessible to
merchants, industrialists, and the less privileged and then the masses.
I feel that technology has a huge effect on the way people see the theatre. Technology has also had a

People know about the radio and some theatre was broadcasted over the airwaves but getting to see
these broadcasts was amazing. Today's effects of television on the theatre are big in good and bad
ways. The good thing television can do for the theatre is advertise and show clips from the play.
People also like to hear what other people think and there are shows on television that will do that.
Television can also show the plays in full, which can be good and or bad. The way it could be good
is seeing the play on television could make someone want to see it live, than again once someone
sees it they may never want to see it again. Another thing that goes along with television is a VCR if
someone wants to see something bad enough they can go rent it or tape it for every time they want
to see it in the future. Now there are even channels that are dedicated to showing only stuff from the
stage. This channel is called the Theatre Channel. The Theatre Channel is the first cable television
network devoted to broadcasting theatre performances from national and international theatres. This
channel's objective is to bring the exciting world of theatre to everyone who purchases this channel.
The Theatre Channels goal is to provide an original forum and venue for the theatre community as
well as a medium through which a larger segment of the population can afford the opportunity to

Susan Sontag Regarding The Harm Of Social Media
"All of our exalted technological progress, civilization for that matter, is comparable to an axe in the

he could have never imagined the extent to which the technological progression of social media
would assert itself in contemporary humanity. A staple of the technological age engulfing society as
we know it has been social media; blurring the lines between reality and technology. In Susan

How can this be true? Is it not social media's very nature to include rather than exclude? Yet, studies

allow many seemingly casual social media users to realize that their involvement with these

the most relief when they are away from social media, and feel more active in their own lives. This
relief coincides with the belief held by Sontag that these images that people are constantly subject to

African American Civil War Research Paper
Personal Statement:
I would like to research the role played by African Americans during the American Civil war (1861–
1865). African Americans played a primary role in the outcome of the Civil War and the abolition of
slavery. Traditionally, The extent of their roles and their direct participation towards the
emancipation of slaves has been increasingly recognised by historians. This self–emancipation
thesis is increasingly accepted. Historians such as James McPherson, Ira Berlin and many others
including those involved in the Freedmen and Southern society project, are some who have put
greater emphasis on the importance of African Americans role during the period. Traditionally

Introduction East Midlands, general facts
The East Midlands, in its broadest sense, is the eastern part of central England (and therefore part of
the United Kingdom as well).
The East Midlands covers three major landscape areas: The relatively flat coastal plain of
Lincolnshire, the river valley of the Trent, the third largest (and longest) river in England, and the
southern end of the Pennine range of hills in Derbyshire.
The second of these contains several large cities: Nottingham, ... Show more content on

Lincolnshire also has a marked north south split in terms of accent. The north shares many features
with Yorkshire, such as the open a sound in "car" and "park" or the replacement of take and make
with tek and mek. The south of Lincolnshire is close to Received Pronunciation, although it still has
a short Northern a in words such as bath. In Northamptonshire, crossed by the North–South
isogloss, residents of the north of the county have an accent similar to that of Leicestershire and
those in the south an accent similar to rural Oxfordshire. The town of Corby in northern
Northamptonshire has an accent with some originally Scottish features, apparently due to
immigration of Scottish steelworkers. It is common in Corby for the GOAT set of words to be
pronounced with . This pronunciation is used across Scotland and most of Northern England, but
Corby is alone in the Midlands in using it

East Midlands accents are generally non–rhotic, instead drawing out their vowels, resulting in the
Midlands Drawl, which can to non–natives be mistaken for dry sarcasm. Old and cold may be
pronounced as "owd" and "cowd" (rhyming with "loud" in the West Midlands and "ode" in the East
Midlands), and in the northern Midlands home can become "wom". The West Midlands accent is
often described as having a

What Is The Importance Of Information In Support
Information in support of my application
Thank you for welcoming me into your school. From my visit I feel like this is a suitable school for
me where I can learn many things from the staff and children. Such as, the diversity from the
children and how it reminded me of my primary school. I feel a diverse school encourages children
and adults to help understand each other's cultures and how we can work together as a team as well
as support each other to progress in life. I feel this is a type of school where I can excel but also

I have a degree in BA Honours in Primary Education at Nottingham Trent University with my

Kayla Sheffield Philosophy Professor Wilson 11/22/2017 Negative Effect of Social Media When
one thinks of social media one of the first things that comes to mind is an application such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr and many other applications that allow one to share
information on the internet. So taking that into consideration one can deduce that social media is
any application or website that allows one to share information about them or about other things on
the worldwide web in real–time. Before social media people wrote letters, sent telegrams or used
Morse code. Writing letters and use of Morse code is being applied in some parts sending telegrams
was phased out. Social media came with the advent of the modern technological age at the turn of
the century. It is with the birth of computers, the internet, and the modern phone that social media
took off. Of course with the coming of social media, many ripple effects were felt. Some of the
effects were positive. Case in point, information is shared instantaneously and in real–time across
the whole globe. The world has been transformed into one global village because of social media.
As all things have yin and yang, social media came with a number of side effects; effects that shall
be espoused in this paper. One negative aspect is that social media is highly addictive. Use anything
too much, and you are bound to get addicted to it. A study carried out at Nottingham Trent
University showed that it is possible to speak of Facebook Addiction Disorder. It was classified as
an addiction because there was significant neglect of personal life; that using social media or
missing out on it was found to alter the mood of addicted users; chief of all is that the addicted of
users tried to hide the addictive behavior. Just like all addictions, one does not think that one has a
problem until one sees that one has a problem. As seen, the behaviors portrayed by people addicted
to other things such as drugs have been exhibited by people who are addicted to social media. The
study showed that people had a psychological sign of withdrawal when they stopped using the
social media platforms and the internet at large. A study carried out by Swansea

Negative Effects Of Social Media
Social Media Affects Typewriters to computers, telephones to smartphones, written letters to
communicating through social media such as snapchat and instagram, demonstrates how times have
changed with communication. The earlier generations growing up had to use their imaginations and
creative minds in order to be entertained. Playing outside with friends, building forts, and playing
school were some of the many favorite activities of children. Today, you see smartphones in the
hands of young children, changing children's ideas of fun. Now it is a struggle to find someone that

A study from Nottingham Trent University, looked at earlier research of personality, psychological
characteristics, and social media use. They found that the addiction behaviors are indeed there when
it comes to social media. People tend to try to hide emotions through posting "happy all the time"
pictures and it makes them feel much more safe. This created problems such as, feelings of
neglecting personal life, mental preoccupation, mood modifying experiences, and much more
(Walton). So as a result of so much technology and phone use, the generation has drastically
changed. Mental Health To begin with, mental health can be greatly affected by social media.
Mental health issues have gone up in the last century as the social media hype has grown. According
to child psychotherapist Julie Lynn Evans, the rise in numbers of anorexia, cutting, and depression,
all stem from the effect of social media (Liu). From all the pictures posted online, it can pop
different thoughts into a person's head. Feeling left out, feeling like you and your life aren't good
enough, or comparison and jealousy are all things that come up when speaking of social media and
mental health. A study conducted by the University of Houston found that social media is linked to
isolation and loneliness, due to comparison behavior (Liu). Scrolling through feeds of different
social media platforms tend to always

The Pros And Cons Of Social Media
Social media are applications and websites that enable users create, collaborate and share in social
networking, for example, Facebook, which allows people to share their own stuff or share other
people's content. Facebook can also be used communication, marketing and networking. Social
Media is pretty important because you can communicate with your family members or friends, and
we can share stuff so other people can see it. But social media can have a bad side too. A bad thing
can be that there is a big risk that you can get hacked for your personal information. According to a
2016 study by the University of Phoenix, 84 percent of U.S. adults claim that they at least own a
social media account, and as the prominence of social has grown, so does the number of criminals
that are preying for those who own it. The same survey shows that nearly two in three U.S. adults
who have social media profiles have been hacked. Social media users and businesses that employ
them to work on their computers is really risky, since hackers have a dozen techniques to get to your
identity. For example, social engineering that is a trick that simply asks for passwords. You are
giving your email addresses all the time, so that lets hackers possess your email address for private
info including passwords. Only 9 percent of teens that own a social media account are really aware
of the privacy of their data, while other teens dont take note of their privacy and what they post. Be

Playing Video Games Is Beneficial To Children
Across the continents, people are turning to new technological developments for entertainment.
Unlike the previous generations who were fascinated by television and radio, the current generations
are much more advanced regarding their choices of technology, relying on their smart phones,
tablets, and game consoles to help them pass their free time. Today's youngest generation in
particular, enjoys playing video games. Although parents may be concerned about the amount of
time their children are spending on these video games, they should realize the numerous benefits to

Mental health improvements are also a strong possibility through the use of video games. Most
specifically stress. Stress has become an epidemic in our society. We're always on the go and it's
hard to take a break. Video games can actually relive stress in a couple of ways. First of all they
make you slow down and take a break to play. Hopefully, the gaming time will be enjoyable as well.
Gaming also give people a chance to vent or blow off steam. A recent scientific study had this to
say, "I've conducted many clinical studies in the area of recreational therapy in the past, but this was
the first one seeking to determine the potential therapeutic value of video games. The results of this
study are impressive and intriguing, given the extent of the effects of the games on subjects' stress
levels and overall mood. When coupled with the very high degree of confidence we have in those
results based on the methodology and technologies used, I believe there is a wide range of
therapeutic applications of casual games in mood–related disorders such as depression and in stress–
related disorders including diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Russoniello 1)."That is interesting
and promising information, because stress is one of the biggest causes of suicides and diseases. A
non–invasive way to correct these problems, such as playing video games, sounds like an ideal
solution. Media sources have been

Child Psychologist Personal Statement
I grew up in Compton, California in the United States of America. I was, however fortunate enough
to attend schools in the Lynwood Unified School District, a suburb close to Compton. Compton was
the only place my parents could afford to live and raise a family at the time in California. The city of
Compton is stated to be one of the most distressed cities' in California. It is a city where the violent
crimes such as rape, murder, armed robbery, gang–impacted, aggravated assault, has the highest

Are Academics More Academic Than Extroverts?
Are introverts more academic than extroverts? Abstract 150 Introversion–extroversion was proposed
by Eysenck as a scale along which each individuals personalities vary, with most people gathering
in the centre of the scale as neither highly introverted or extroverted. As introverts are found to be
more shy than extroverts, and categorized as more likely to be found reading a book than at a party,
the hypothesis that introverts are more intelligent that extroverts was tested. Two questionnaires, one
to assess intelligence and one to assess their introversion–extroversion rating, were given to 60
participants from Nottingham Trent University. The results were found to be not significant,
showing that introversion is not a predictor for academic success. Introduction 270–405 (391)
LaPiere's 1934 study showed that attitudes do not always predict behaviour. LaPiere travelled
America with some of the Chinese population and visited hotels, restaurants, and other service
industries. Of these establishments 91% said that they would not accept Chinese guests, however
only 1 establishment refused them service on their travels. Ajzen (1991) developed a model called
the Theory of Planned Behaviour. He proposed that attitudes are not the only influences on
behavioural intentions. Ajzen's behavioural model identifies subjective norms, which are beliefs of
others, and control beliefs, which are beliefs that are already formed and therefore are the control for
future beliefs. However, one

Do University Rankings Matter?
Do University Rankings Matter?
Currently, many students believe that attending to a prestigious university will lead to a more
successful and satisfying career in today's society. When senior students choose the university to
attend for post–secondary education, there are other factors to consider that are far more important
than the university ranking, such as the students major study, student–teacher ratio, location, and
scholarship availability.
The major students study matters more than the university ranking. "The Department of Education
(DOE) report looked at four years of data on university graduates and found that students that
studied science, technology, engineering, and math on average earn $65,000, while non–STEM
majors earned about $15,500 less" ( Jacobs ). This study lists the average salaries for STEM majors
and non–STEM majors, as well as a breakdown of how much students with specific degrees earn:
STEM major (overall) – $65,000
Computer and information sciences – $72,600
Engineering and engineering technology – $73,700
Biological and physical sciences, science technology, mathematics, and agricultural sciences –

Non–STEM majors (overall) – $49,500
General studies – $53,700
Social sciences – $46,700
Humanities – $43,100
Health care fields – $58,900

Social Media Addiction
In 1970, the president of the digital equipment corporation said, " There will never come a time
when a person need a computer in their home." Yet today, almost everyone have a computer in their
house whether it a smartphone, tablet, smart TV, etc. However, with the invention of computers it
also slowly came with the invention of social media. First ever social media came out in 1997 called
Six Degrees, which didn't last long. After that more and now social media websites came out like
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But, with all these social media websites coming out it have
change the way people are in our society very much. Social media have changed society by way the
we think and behave which related to American Identity by the concept of culture. One way social
media affect society is that people have become addicted to it. Having a social media account is
very common in today's society. It can go from just having one social media account to having
multiple. People have use these accounts as a way of communicating with people or showing others
what they are doing with their lives. Even though this is what social media is mainly for people have
become addicted to them. A review study from Nottingham Trent University looked back over

A review study from Nottingham Trent University looked back over earlier research on the
psychological characteristics, personality and social media use. The authors conclude that "it may be
plausible to speak specifically of 'Facebook Addiction Disorder'...because addiction criteria, such as
neglect of personal life, mental preoccupation, escapism, mood modifying experiences, tolerance
and concealing the addictive behavior, appear to be present in some people who use [social
networks] excessively." (They also found that the motivation for people's excessive use of social
networks differs depending on certain traits–introverts and extroverts use it for different reasons, as
do people with narcissistic traits. But that deserves a piece of its own.) It triggers more sadness, less
well–being The more we use social media, the less happy we seem to be. One study a few years ago
found that Facebook use was linked to both less moment–to–moment happiness and less life
satisfaction–the more people used Facebook in a day, the more these two variables dropped off. The
authors suggest this may have to do with the fact that Facebook conjures up a perception of social
isolation, in a way that other solitary activities don't. "On the surface," the authors write, "Facebook
provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling such needs by allowing people to instantly connect.

school students is that their students have their 'head in the clouds', meaning that their students are
ignoring their surroundings, enveloping in his or her own thoughts, or fantasizing the impossible.
When society is staring down at her device looking at Snapchat and Instagram, when an adult

The addiction to social media use destroys our mental health just as much as it does to only avoiding
the urge to look at it. Social media addiction is a classified mental health issue that can require
professional treatment. Researchers at Nottingham Trent University in 2011 concluded that this
issue leads to an assortment of problems such as relationship dilemmas, academic decline, and less
participation in physical interactions in which our social media will replace our ties in real life
(Brown 6). In the article "Smartphones: Uniting the World's Children for Better, or Worse?", an
addictive behavior is defined as when one compulsively repeats the same behavior that subjects
things in his or her life to. The addictive behavior social media can bring upon a person is as
detrimental as drug or alcohol addictions (Smartphones: Uniting the World's 2). Being addicted to

Election System of Bangladesh
Election System: A Contrast Between Bangladesh And USA. –Nafis Ujrat MIDN USN
Election system is one of the most important features of a country's political system. It symbolizes
some inner concept of a political system of a nation. I have chosen election system of US
government to discuss and compare with that of Bangladesh. Both of these countries have some
unique style of election procedure. That has made it really interesting for the learner of both systems
to contrast and evaluate their own respective election system and understand its impact on
government. Bangladesh has got its independence on 1971. After that on 1972 Bangladesh got her

election campaign is really lengthy. The constitution does not give any guide line how to nominate a
candidate for US presidential election. The Democratic Party has a nationwide policy for
determining candidate. The Republican Party allows each state to determine their own way to select
candidate. When Bangladesh was united with present Pakistan, former president of Pakistan Ayub
Khan introduced a system of presidential election called Basic democracy. That was almost similar
to the presidential election system of USA. But mass people of Bangladesh did not accept that
system as the electors were corrupted. They did not reflect the wish of popular vote. So this system
did not worked in Bangladesh. In USA the founder father thought that people are not wise enough to
elect the right candidate. That is why they wanted to have a system where there will some sorts of
control over people's choice of candidates. They also thought people from different states may not
agree to on a single person to choose as a president. That is why they felt the requirement to have an
election system that will balance the situation. In Bangladesh politics and election are always

The Pros And Cons Of Education In Vietnam

Vietnam is a developing country and its education is developing as well but there are still many
limitations such as corruption, outdated curriculum and so on. However, I still chose to believe in
the education in Vietnam, therefore when I finished high school, I entered the marine university at
finance accounting department. During my time at that university, I realized my belief was wrong
because most students in Vietnam after graduation were unemployed because of lack of skills. In
particular, according to Dantri (2016) is the prestigious education electronic media website in
Vietnam, in the first quarter of 2016, the country has 225,000 people with bachelor's degree and
master degree are unemployment. Subsequently, I decided to study abroad and the question is which
country can I choose to study abroad. I have done some research to find a good educated and
suitable country for me, finally I chose the United Kingdom. The first reason is the UK has ranking
in second place for higher education (Teleghraph, 2016). Secondly, UK is one of the most
convenient environment to study English and the cost to study in UK is reasonable. The last reason
is environment in UK is safer than some countries, namely the UK ranks 13th among the 23 safest

An Investigation Of Online Shopping
Introduction:
An investigation of online shopping and how does it influence NTIC students' daily life.
Observations have shown that there has been a rapid development in an economic world. We have
witnessed a tremendous change about shopping online. According to UCLA Center for
Communication Policy (2001), online shopping has been regarded as the third most prevalent
activity on the Internet, only followed by e–mail and website usage. It plays an important role, not
only in retail stores, but also in people's lives. There are more and more people who have begun to
choose this way of shopping. However, a reasonable way to use Internet for shopping could offer
convenience in people's daily life. Relying on online shopping too much may cause a lot of risks
more than the retail sector, for instance, if a student buys a defective dress from an online company,
and it turns out to be fraud, it is nearly impossible to trace it and get your money back, whereas it
does not happen in the case of a local shop. Also there is a chance of finding bargains in local retail
sector. In this research, the influence of online shopping for the International students in NTIC will
be studied.
Research Question:
How does online shopping influence the International students?

Violent Video Games And Violent Behavior

Violent Video Games and Violent Behavior – Is There A Connection? The arrival of violent video
games and the media covering recent mass killings, an emotional debate has developed about the
impact of video games on aggressive, violent, and criminal behavior. Findings from certain research
are contradictory: some studies show an increase in aggressiveness, while others suggest a decrease
in criminality. The increase in the diversity of game platforms makes playing violent video games
easier to play, which is a source of concern. Video games are not solidly anchored in the popular
culture, while in the past an eccentric pastime no longer exists (Fournis 1). In 1971, the First
Amendment was adopted to primarily protect speech critical to the government; in contrast to the
English seditious libel laws, which allowed punishment for true speech derogatory. The Supreme
Court decided that violent video games cause aggression in children solely based on the First
Amendment instead of scientific evidence (Bushman 306). Both sides of violent video games have
valid points, but they are missing the one key and most important point, which is the psychology
within the household. Within scientific and public debate, the main subject has been whether or not
violent video games cause aggression. Violent video games have become part of so many people 's

Negative Effects Of Social Media Addiction
Health experts love to say that sitting is the new smoking. Given the number of diseases to which
sitting is linked, and the number of people it apparently kills every year, sitting is one of the worst
things we can do for health. But possibly as concerning is the thing that we often do while we're
sitting: Mindlessly scrolling through our social media feeds when we have a few spare minutes (or
for some, hours). And as we probably know intuitively, and as the research is confirming, it's not the
best habit when it comes to our collective psychology.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has warned about the potential for negative effects of social

Negative Effects Of Caffeine
The effect of caffeine on accuracy in a sports related task
Introduction
The use of caffeine is worldwide, contained in a range of foods, beverages and medicines with it
being one of the most frequently consumed ingredients worldwide (Heckman, Weil, Mejia, &
Gonzalez, 2010). Extensive research has been conducted into caffeine and its effects on our
cognitive functioning and development, with many studies concluding that due to its beneficial
effects surrounding enhanced performance and awareness, caffeine is a safe and valuable
enhancement to our daily lives (Mejia & Ramirez–Mares 2014, Zwyghuizen–Doorenbos, Roehrs,
Lipschutz, Timms & Roth, 1990).

In the second experiment, caffeine was also shown to cause enhanced performance on logical
reasoning and semantic memory when participating in recognition memory tasks. Furthermore,
Stuart, Hopkins, Cook, and Cairns (2005) found a 9.6% (±6.1%) increase in passing accuracy and a
51% increase in mean epinephrine concentration when 9 male rugby players consumed 6 mg/kg–1
body mass of caffeine and participated in a rugby game, measured with consistent measurement
stopping periods throughout.
Even though there is vast research concluding caffeine improves cognitive performance, Jacobson
and Thurman–Lacey (1992) tested the effect of caffeine on both caffeine–naïve and caffeine–
familiar participant's performance skills. Their findings highlighted the negative effects of the
consumption of caffeine; with evidence suggesting caffeine can be detrimental to selective motor
skills, especially when the participants where native to the use of caffeine. Additionally, there is also
conflicting evidence for the effects of caffeine on short–term exercise. A meta–analysis by van
Duinen, Lorist and Zijdewind (2005) raised contradictory results, with some studies concluding
caffeine consumption leads to increased endurance (Jackman et al. 1996; Kalmar & Cafarelli 1999;

The Federal government mandates laws to help protect and serve the people of the United States of

most recent concerns is that of the minimum wage and its ability to provide a living for the workers

Cleon Bandoo, Nottingham Trent University, 2017. Consumerism
Cleon Bandoo, Nottingham Trent University, 2017
Consumerism is not just the acquisition of things it is the buying of self identity
In contemporary society it almost seems that we are profoundly connected and dependant upon
consumption , surrounding ideologies that suggest that consumer has invaded to an extent that,
when we consume we construct identity, has come to dominate as 'the new religion of the late 20th
century,' (Miller,) these theories can be connected with "choice" which serves to tell us that self
definition and collective definition can be communicated by our consumption practices. Identity
construction is an increasingly important area in the study of consumption. However, it could be
assumed that the concept of choice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the culture of emulation, this tapping into people's desires comes from the consumer to be able to
emulate the celebrities traits, success, beauty, athleticism, talent etc (Sokolovska, 2016) which are
all situated with the product these celebrities endorse.
However, in challenging the idea of identity as commodity, we could take a Marxist approach which
would often suggest that in late modernity there is a fear with the preoccupation of spending, trying
to fulfill other people's lives and not live our own, the fear that 'we are losing touch with more
worthwhile values and ways of living' (Schor,1999) can be assumed to be caused by the shift
towards mass production. The idea that people have more freedom is to say that we have more
choice, we can argue choice as an "illusion" that our choices are being dressed by producers, to
support this argument, we could refer to Ted Talks who centers his notions on the paradox of choice,
the idea that choice "produces paralysis as opposed to liberation, with so much to choose from
people can not choose at all." (Ted Talks) this notion driven by nature of the capitalist society in
which we live, mass marketization to produce for mass consumption has surrounded us with a

It turns out that in the majority of cases, people are so nose–deep in their technological devices, that they do not even notice what is going on in the world around them. Because of this, throughout the years, technology has been the cause of a large amount of accidents and deaths. For some insane reason, it seems that some people are just too blind to see that technology is becoming an immense distraction and it affects everyone all over the world. The majority of people today, have easy access to some sort of technology. Even if people deny it, everyone is guilty of checking their phones twenty–four–seven. Usually, when people go to check their phones for a "quick second", they end up spending several minutes, and in some situations, even hours on their phone, because of distracting social media, games, and text messages. Recently a study was done by Nottingham Trent University, to see how much the average person checks their phone in a day. The researchers at Nottingham Trent University, did this by installing an app on all of the participants' phones. This app that was downloaded, recorded the participants' total phone activity and usage, for over a total of fourteen days, (or simply, a two–week time period). At the end of the study, the application showed the researchers roughly how much the participants checked their phones in a day. At the end of the study, it was discovered that the average person checks their phone eighty–five or more times a day (MailOnline). Another study, done by Silentnight, showed how much time people today will waste away on phones and other technological devices like computers. This study found that the average person spends eight hours and roughly forty–one minutes on electronic devices; which is only around twenty minutes more than an average night's sleep (MailOnline). Alice Walton, the author of "6 Ways Social Media Affects Our Mental Health" uses point of view, tone, simile, and logos to effectively inform the audience of the negative effects social media has upon the mental health of its users. Throughout the article, Walton uses these rhetorical strategies to warn social media users of its addictive, blinding, and depressing effects. Walton uses this article to target an audience of adult social media users. Specifically, adults who often use social media and may not realize their dependency upon it. To reach her audience, Walton uses a first–person point of view. The author states, "We have known for some time that people who are over–dependent on digital devices report feelings of anxiety" (Walton). The Increase in Using Technology to Cheat The increase in using technology to cheat Cheating in the classroom has been happening since the first schoolhouse was built; however, it has more than doubled in the last decade due to the emergence of new technologies that give students high tech alternatives to looking at their classmate's paper. "A 2002 survey by the Josephson Institute of Ethics of 12,000 high–school students found that 74 % of students had cheated on an exam at least once in the previous year. Everything seems to be on some type of electronic device, and as individuals in the society we rely on our phones, computers, ipads, ipods, and television for everything. The evolution of technology will not slow down and it will keep progressing further and further. Soon, every single thing we do will be electronic based if it isn't already. When I look around, I see people always on their phones and it doesn't matter how old they are. So, I decided to conduct a little study of my own. Although not scientific, a friend and I did a study, which answered my final question. For three days my friend and I shut off all of our notifications from our apps on our phones. I was quite interested in what would happen, and the results I found were quite interesting. After shutting off our notifications we realized we weren't checking our phones as much, which made me come to the conclusion that not only are our smartphones the problem, but the apps we have as well. I believe that a big problem is with all the apps people download, comes endless amounts of notifications, which causes people to check their phones constantly. After clicking on the notification, it leads people to start browsing social media or doing other activities on their phones. According to Jeff Stibel, a cognitive scientist and entrepreneur, "Dopamine is a brain chemical that literally makes us happy, and it is released every time we receive something on our phones". Every time someone hears a buzz or sees a notification dopamine hits them right away, and it clearly explains why people are constantly checking their phones. • 7. Essay On Minimum Wage Minimum Wage and the Effect of Unemployment in the Low Skilled Sector The Federal government mandates laws to help protect and serve the people of the United States of America. Citizens always have a say in the matter with the power of their vote or by letting their Congressional representatives know of their support or upset of the current policies. One of the most recent concerns is that of the minimum wage and its ability to provide a living for the workers that are at jobs that provide this minimal benefit. Although, a minimum wage increase will not provide enough income for a current livable wage. Minimum wage jobs provide the foundations of skills for future success for the current low–skilled sector. As humans, we are often defined by how successful we are in life but what job we hold and what we are doing. It is usually one of the first questions that people ask us who have not seen us in a while. We all have to start somewhere in our careers of choice, and we get there by progressively stepping up the ladder rungs of success that is defined by ourselves. Diane Levin, an education professor at Boston's Wheelock College has her student's interview people of different age groups to see how much time they spent playing outside. The results from her students research shows that people over the age of fifty got more play time then today's generation. This is because of technology. Diane Levin said "Pokémon Go is getting people outside but they're still doing a very prescribed thing. They're still being controlled by the screen. By some classic definitions, that isn't play." Older people use to make up games and this is good for development of the brain. Michael Rich, an associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, said "the kind of creativity developed through imaginative play is what eventually causes people to be able to respond proactively in the face of failure." Because children today are more focused on video games they will not be able to develop this trait. One thing Michael Rich said about video games is that "They don't prepare you for failure ... They are designed to create a challenge you can ultimately succeed at so you can get to the next level and buy the next version." Basically what he is saying is that one who is more likely to go outside and be creative and imaginative, is going to be able to face failure rather than the one who stays inside and watches television or plays video games. This person is also more likely to successfully overcome failure because with being creative and imaginative comes trial and error. This person is able to handle a situation in a reasonable manner. The person who stays inside to watch television or play video games is not prepared to face failure because in games or on television shows people also get another life if they die. These shows and games are not preparing one for reality because they can possibly start to believe their life is like a video game or show and they'll get a second chance ... Positive And Negative Effects Of Social Media Kayla Sheffield Philosophy Professor Wilson 11/22/2017 Negative Effect of Social Media When one thinks of social media one of the first things that comes to mind is an application such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr and many other applications that allow one to share information on the internet. So taking that into consideration one can deduce that social media is any application or website that allows one to share information about them or about other things on the worldwide web in real–time. Before social media people wrote letters, sent telegrams or used Morse code. Writing letters and use of Morse code is being applied in some parts sending telegrams was phased out. Social media came with the advent of the modern technological age at the turn of the century. It is with the birth of computers, the internet, and the modern phone that social media took off. Of course with the coming of social media, many ripple effects were felt. Some of the effects were positive. Case in point, information is shared instantaneously and in real–time across the whole globe. The world has been transformed into one global village because of social media. As all things have yin and yang, social media came with a number of side effects; effects that shall be espoused in this paper. One negative aspect is that social media is highly addictive. Use anything too much, and you are bound to get addicted to it. A study carried out at Nottingham Trent University showed that it is possible to speak of Facebook Addiction Disorder. It was classified as an addiction because there was significant neglect of personal life; that using social media or missing out on it was found to alter the mood of addicted users; chief of all is that the addicted of users tried to hide the addictive behavior. Just like all addictions, one does not think that one has a problem until one sees that one has a problem. Social Media is pretty important because you can communicate with your family members or friends, and we can share stuff so other people can see it. But social media can have a bad side too. A bad thing can be that there is a big risk that you can get hacked for your personal information. Abstract 150 Introversion–extroversion was proposed by Eysenck as a scale along which each individuals personalities vary, with most people gathering in the centre of the scale as neither highly introverted or extroverted. As introverts are found to be more shy than extroverts, and categorized as more likely to be found reading a book than at a party, the hypothesis that introverts are more intelligent that extroverts was tested. Two questionnaires, one to assess intelligence and one to assess their introversion–extroversion rating, were given to 60 participants from Nottingham Trent University. The results were found to be not significant, showing that introversion is not a predictor for academic success. Introduction 270–405 (391) LaPiere's 1934 study showed that attitudes do not always predict behaviour. LaPiere travelled America with some of the Chinese population and visited hotels, restaurants, and other service industries. Of these establishments 91% said that they would not accept Chinese guests, however only 1 establishment refused them service on their travels. Ajzen (1991) developed a model called the Theory of Planned Behaviour. He proposed that attitudes are not the only influences on behavioural intentions. The Role Of Trajan In The World Of Graphic Design Although technically only officially around in the world of graphic design and typography since 1989, Trajan is referred to as the "world's oldest font," and not just because of its old–world typographic charm. Carol Twombly, a prominent calligrapher, American artist, graphic designer and official type designer for Adobe Systems from 1988 to 1999, is the designer behind the Trajan font. She was inspired by a piece of ancient Roman architecture known as "Trajan's Column." It was erected to honor ancient Roman Emperor Trajan's triumph in the Dacian Wars. Yet today, almost everyone have a computer in their house whether it a smartphone, tablet, smart TV, etc. However, with the invention of computers it also slowly came with the invention of social media. First ever social media came out in 1997 called Six Degrees, which didn't last long. After that more and now social media websites came out like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But, with all these social media websites coming out it have change the way people are in our society very much. Social media have changed society by way the we think and behave which related to American Identity by the concept of culture. A review study from Nottingham Trent University looked back over earlier research on the psychological characteristics, personality and social media use. The authors conclude that "it may be plausible to speak specifically of 'Facebook Addiction Disorder'...because addiction criteria, such as neglect of personal life, mental preoccupation, escapism, mood modifying experiences, tolerance and concealing the addictive behavior, appear to be present in some people who use [social networks] excessively." (They also found that the motivation for people's excessive use of social networks differs depending on certain traits–introverts and extroverts use it for different reasons, as do people with narcissistic traits. But that deserves a piece of its own.) It triggers more sadness, less well–being The more we use social media, the less happy we seem to be. One study a few years ago found that Facebook use was linked to both less moment–to–moment happiness and less life satisfaction–the more people used Facebook in a day, the more these two variables dropped off. The authors suggest this may have to do with the fact that Facebook conjures up a perception of social isolation, in a way that other solitary activities don't. "On the surface," the authors write, "Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling such needs by allowing people to instantly connect. A relevant phrase among teachers towards daydreaming high school students is that their students have their 'head in the clouds', meaning that their students are ignoring their surroundings, enveloping in his or her own thoughts, or fantasizing the impossible. When society is staring down at her device looking at Snapchat and Instagram, when an adult commands a prepubescent teen to put the phone away, it manifests that our world is 'in the clouds'. Social media addiction is a classified mental health issue that can require professional treatment. Researchers at Nottingham Trent University in 2011 concluded that this issue leads to an assortment of problems such as relationship dilemmas, academic decline, and less participation in physical interactions in which our social media will replace our ties in real life (Brown 6). In the article "Smartphones: Uniting the World's Children for Better, or Worse?", an addictive behavior is defined as when one compulsively repeats the same behavior that subjects things in his or her life to. The addictive behavior social media can bring upon a person is as detrimental as drug or alcohol addictions (Smartphones: Uniting the World's 2). It symbolizes some inner concept of a political system of a nation. I have chosen election system of US government to discuss and compare with that of Bangladesh. Both of these countries have some unique style of election procedure. That has made it really interesting for the learner of both systems to contrast and evaluate their own respective election system and understand its impact on government. The constitution does not give any guide line how to nominate a candidate for US presidential election. The Democratic Party has a nationwide policy for determining candidate. The Republican Party allows each state to determine their own way to select candidate. When Bangladesh was united with present Pakistan, former president of Pakistan Ayub Khan introduced a system of presidential election called Basic democracy. That was almost similar to the presidential election system of USA. But mass people of Bangladesh did not accept that system as the electors were corrupted. They did not reflect the wish of popular vote. So this system did not worked in Bangladesh. In USA the founder father thought that people are not wise enough to elect the right candidate. That is why they wanted to have a system where there will some sorts of control over people's choice of candidates. They also thought people from different states may not agree to on a single person to choose as a president. Introduction: Vietnam is a developing country and its education is developing as well but there are still many limitations such as corruption, outdated curriculum and so on. However, I still chose to believe in the education in Vietnam, therefore when I finished high school, I entered the marine university at finance accounting department. During my time at that university, I realized my belief was wrong because most students in Vietnam after graduation were unemployed because of lack of skills. In particular, according to Dantri (2016) is the prestigious education electronic media website in Vietnam, in the first quarter of 2016, the country has 225,000 people with bachelor's degree and master degree are unemployment. Subsequently, I decided to study abroad and the question is which country can I choose to study abroad. I have done some research to find a good educated and suitable country for me, finally I chose the United Kingdom. The first reason is the UK has ranking in second place for higher education (Teleghraph, 2016). Secondly, UK is one of the most convenient environment to study English and the cost to study in UK is reasonable. The last reason is environment in UK is safer than some countries, namely the UK ranks 13th among the 23 safest countries to live in the world (Payne, 2016). • 36. An Investigation Of Online Shopping Introduction: An investigation of online shopping and how does it influence NTIC students' daily life. Observations have shown that there has been a rapid development in an economic world. We have witnessed a tremendous change about shopping online. According to UCLA Center for Communication Policy (2001), online shopping has been regarded as the third most prevalent activity on the Internet, only followed by e–mail and website usage. It plays an important role, not only in retail stores, but also in people's lives. There are more and more people who have begun to choose this way of shopping. However, a reasonable way to use Internet for shopping could offer convenience in people's daily life. Relying on online shopping too much may cause a lot of risks more than the retail sector, for instance, if a student buys a defective dress from an online company, and it turns out to be fraud, it is nearly impossible to trace it and get your money back, whereas it does not happen in the case of a local shop. Also there is a chance of finding bargains in local retail sector. In this research, the influence of online shopping for the International students in NTIC will be studied. Research Question: How does online shopping influence the International students? Literature Review: Case, Burns, and Dick (2001) suggest that knowledge of Internet, salary, and learning background are the main strength predictors of Internet purchases among university students. • 37. Violent Video Games And Violent Behavior Lisa Shah Ms. Violette Argumentative 4 December 2014 Violent Video Games and Violent Behavior – Is There A Connection? The arrival of violent video games and the media covering recent mass killings, an emotional debate has developed about the impact of video games on aggressive, violent, and criminal behavior. Findings from certain research are contradictory: some studies show an increase in aggressiveness, while others suggest a decrease in criminality. The increase in the diversity of game platforms makes playing violent video games easier to play, which is a source of concern. Video games are not solidly anchored in the popular culture, while in the past an eccentric pastime no longer exists (Fournis 1). In 1971, the First Amendment was adopted to primarily protect speech critical to the government; in contrast to the English seditious libel laws, which allowed punishment for true speech derogatory. The Supreme Court decided that violent video games cause aggression in children solely based on the First Amendment instead of scientific evidence (Bushman 306). Both sides of violent video games have valid points, but they are missing the one key and most important point, which is the psychology within the household. Within scientific and public debate, the main subject has been whether or not violent video games cause aggression. Violent video games have become part of so many people 's live, which is why so many debates have focused on them. In the United States, 91% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the number of diseases to which sitting is linked, and the number of people it apparently kills every year, sitting is one of the worst things we can do for health. But possibly as concerning is the thing that we often do while we're sitting: Mindlessly scrolling through our social media feeds when we have a few spare minutes (or for some, hours). And as we probably know intuitively, and as the research is confirming, it's not the best habit when it comes to our collective psychology. The American Academy of Pediatrics has warned about the potential for negative effects of social media in young kids and teens, including cyber–bullying and "Facebook depression." But the same risks may be true for adults, across generations. Here's a quick run–down of the studies that have shown that social media isn't very good for mental well–being, and in some ways, it can be pretty damaging.Experts have not been in total agreement on whether internet addiction is a real thing, let alone social media addiction, but there's some good evidence that both may exist. Extensive research has been conducted into caffeine and its effects on our cognitive functioning and development, with many studies concluding that due to its beneficial effects surrounding enhanced performance and awareness, caffeine is a safe and valuable enhancement to our daily lives (Mejia & Ramirez–Mares 2014, Zwyghuizen–Doorenbos, Roehrs, Lipschutz, Timms & Roth, 1990). Even though there is vast research concluding caffeine improves cognitive performance, Jacobson and Thurman–Lacey (1992) tested the effect of caffeine on both caffeine–naïve and caffeine– familiar participant's performance skills. Their findings highlighted the negative effects of the consumption of caffeine; with evidence suggesting caffeine can be detrimental to selective motor skills, especially when the participants where native to the use of caffeine. Additionally, there is also conflicting evidence for the effects of caffeine on short–term exercise. A meta–analysis by van Duinen, Lorist and Zijdewind (2005) raised contradictory results, with some studies concluding caffeine consumption leads to increased endurance (Jackman et al. 1996; Kalmar & Cafarelli 1999; Plaskett & Cafarelli 2001 cited in van Duinen et al., 2005) ... However, in challenging the idea of identity as commodity, we could take a Marxist approach which would often suggest that in late modernity there is a fear with the preoccupation of spending, trying to fulfill other people's lives and not live our own, the fear that 'we are losing touch with more worthwhile values and ways of living' (Schor,1999) can be assumed to be caused by the shift towards mass production.
