My Goal To Play A Trombone Essay
My biggest goal for 2017 –Ishii Yoshihiro My biggest goal for 2017 is that I want to play a trombone very well. I have played a trombone since high
school grade 1.I belonged to brass band in junior high school. than I played a tuba. a tuba is very big , a low tune and heavy in a brass instrument.
therefore ,I damage to the hip and converted to a trombone. I want to become good more and more. I am learning to play trombone. I do not belong to
brass band in high school. I am taught in music school than. I learned to play it alone. I want to play it in group. it is my dream that I want to enter the
orchestra. in the above I said to play it in group. that is because I know that it is fun to playing a instrument in group and an individual.

Dallas Brass Concert Report
The Dallas Brass is a brass ensemble that performed on September 24th, 2016 at Hart Middle School Auditorium. The members of this group are Luis
Araya and Terry Sawchuk who play the (various) trumpets, Juan Berrios who plays the horn, alto horn, and the Flugelhorn, Paul Carlson and Ryan
Christianson who play the tuba and trombone respectively, and Andres Crovetti who is the percussion section. Michael Levine is the created the group
back in 1983 and was their trombone player before Ryan joined.
The program was the American Music Journey, which was music that was played from when George Washington was president to modern day music.
In the program there was a description of the ensemble, but no list of the pieces that they were going to be playing. The audience was pretty big, the
auditorium was about three fourths filled. I think everyone enjoyed what was played that night. One of the bigger reactions was when the lights went
out and the whole ensemble came out playing the theme to Pink Panther with lights on their instruments that would flash whenever they played a note.
Once the lights started coming back on, you could see that all the members had on black sunglasses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They played a variety of fast and slow pieces. Some pieces they danced to, others they sat and played, but most of the time at least one person was
walking around stage. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Especially the way the members talked to the audience. It felt more like they
were bringing us into their daily shenanigans than bring us in to watch them preform. Michael talked about the ensemble at the very beginning and
then explained why the concert was called "The American Journey". The way Michael spoke was very Disney cast member like. Explaining
everything in a friendly tone and inviting us to watch what was about to happen and made me enjoy the whole experience even

A Brief Note On Electrical Discharge Machining ( Edm )
CHAPTER 2
2.LITERATURE SURVEY
2.1Introduction
Literature review is one of the scope studies. It works as guide to run this analysis. From the early stage of the project, various literature studies have
been done. Research journals, books, printed or online conference article were the main source in the project guides.
Literature review section work as reference, to give information and guide base on journal and other source in the media. We are broadly classified all
the paper into five different category, i.e. paper related to Electrical discharge machining (EDM), material related (workpiece or tool), some paper
related to the effect of input parameters on (MRR,TWR and SR), dielectric fluid and the effect of flushing.
2.2Electrical discharge machining (EDM)
It is a process that is used to remove metal through the action of an electrical discharge of short duration and high current density between the tool and
the workpiece [18–19]. (EDM) is a non–traditional type of precision processing using an electrical spark–erosion process between the electrode and the
working piece of electrically conductive immersed in a dielectric fluid [20]. Since it has more special gains, the (EDM) has been widely applied in
modern metal industry for producing complex cavities in moulds and dies, which are difficult to manufacture by conventional machining. The use of
(EDM) in the production of forming tools to produce plastics mouldings, die castings, forging dies etc., has

Analysis of Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" Essay
Tchaikovsky – Romeo and Juliet
The slow introduction, which is the theme of Friar Lawrence, begins with a slow minor melody played by the clarinets, which imitates a Russian
hymn. The strings then take over the melody and use suspensions. There is a modulation to the major and the strings and woodwind play together. The
music modulates back to minor and the flute plays an ascending minor arpeggio whilst the harp plays glissandos. This is repeated. Pizzicato strings
then play a descending sequence whilst the flute melody crescendos and accelerates. A string legato melody then alternates between the cello and the
violin, before all the strings play together and crescendo as the harp accompanies and the violins play a pedal note. ... Show more content on

Harp scales and a string passage then follows. There is a brief modulation back to minor, and then the flute repeats the love theme in major,
accompanied by pizzicato strings. As the melody crescendos and accelerates, the horn plays a countermelody. Harmonics are heard in the
accompanying strings as a legato string melody is played, before the cor anglais returns and plays a gradual diminuendo, ending in a perfect cadence.
The development and recapitulation section opens with the strings and flute playing antiphonally in a minor key. The melody is very rhythmic and
uses accelerando. The strings then play ascending and descending scales, before playing a melody that is accompanied by brass. The French horns
and woodwind section then play in imitation. There is a crescendo, with ascending scales played by the woodwind. The strings play an inverted pedal
as the French horn and woodwind imitate each other again. The cello then plays the melody, imitated by strings and flute. An ascending and descending
string passages follow, with cymbal crashes. The brass and strings play a syncopated rhythm, which is repeated by theorchestra and uses cymbal
crashes. The orchestra then repeats the fight melody, using cymbal crashes, suspensions, triplets and descending scales, whilst the trumpets play the
Friar Lawrence theme. Following the crescendo, there is a descending string scale, then the woodwind then plays an arpeggio melody whilst the

Percent Copper In Brass
Percent Copper in Brass
I. Introduction Have you ever been to any orchestra show or home improvement store before? If you have, I'm sure you have seen those fancy
gold–colored instruments or fancy door knobs or faucets from the home improvement store. Have you ever wondered what they are made up of? They
are made up with the binary alloy called brass. Brass is a binary alloy made up of copper and zinc with an additional amount of lead and tin(Brass in
Focus, Angela Vessey,2004). Its density is known as 8.3 to 8.7 g/cm3, and melting point is 1652 to 1724 В°F(Bell,2017). The characteristics of the
brass are varied on the amount of zinc and copper. The higher amount of zinc seems to be cast easier while the lower amount of zinc can be cold
worked easier; high amounts of copper allow the brass to form a patina, coating of the thin oxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In real world, we use Beer's law to find out the amount of copper or zinc in the brass. The most accurate way to find the amount of copper is by
drawing a calibration curve. When a calibration curve is a straight–line, we represent it using y=ОІ0+ОІ1x where y is the signal, Sstd, and x is the
analyte concentration, Cstd. The constants ОІ0 and ОІ1 are, respectively, the calibration curve's expected y–intercept and its expected slope. Because of
uncertainty in our measurements, the best we can do is to estimate values for ОІ0 and ОІ1, which we represent as b0 and b1. The goal of a linear
regression analysis is to determine the best estimates for b0 and b1. How we do this depends on the uncertainty in our measurements(Harvey,2016).
Meanwhile, all the brasses share same characteristics of malleability and ductility. All the brasses are capable of being shaped and can be drawn into
a wire(Brass in focus, Angela Vessey,2004). In the real world, brass is used for decoration, mechanical applications, as well as for musical instruments.
Depends on the copper percentage in brass,

The Compositions Performed By The Canadian Brass
This analysis will focus primarily on the compositions performed by the Canadian Brass. The quintet is internationally known for their excellence in
performance as well as their style. The ensemble was formed during the 1970's in Toronto, Canada by Tubist Charles Daellenbach and trombonist
Gene Watts. Their style has a wide range which spans from trademark Baroque to Dixieland tunes as well as new compositions and arrangements
created particularly for their style. They've been around for more than 40 years and have had many different performers come and go within the
ensemble. Having sold over 2 million albums, the Canadian brass has toured all over the world, playing different genres of music. Today, the quintet
includes Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Bernhard Scully (French horn), Achilles Liamakopoulos (trombone), Caleb Hudson (trumpet) as well as Chris
Colletti (trumpet). For this paper, I will be focusing on the classical compositions performed by the ensemble. Anyone who has ever attended a live
performance of the Canadian Brass would say that they have excellent showmanship, and are quite spontaneous when it comes to humor. I was lucky
enough to watch them perform myself at Benaroya Hall in Seattle a few years ago, and I have been a fan ever since.
The first piece I chose was Toccata & Fugue in D minor originally composed by Bach. The intro is by far the most spectacular where I was moved by
the range and dynamic contrast. I also liked the deep tones produced by the

Trombone History
The trombone was one of the first orchestra instruments capable of playing all 12 chromatic pitches within an octave. Trombones exist in several
ensembles including jazz, big band, orchestra, ska and even rock bands. An early ancestor of the trombone is an instrument called a sacbut. It first
appeared in early Renaissance music and came in four versions in order from highest to lowest –– alto, tenor, bass and great bass.
Instrument Family
The trombone is an instrument from the brass family. Since the trombone plays in the bass clef and in the lower part of the brass family range, it is
considered a low–brass instrument. Brass instruments are named for both the materials that are used in construction and the various types of metal
mouthpieces that produce the sound. Mouthpiece materials include silver, brass, gold, titanium, steel and even plastic. Plastic mouthpieces provide
inferior sound but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another kind of instrument that is secondary to the instrument family. Non–pitched instruments do not have a definable pitch. With non–pitched
instruments, it is sometimes possible to identify high, medium and low sounds, but these pitches can't be attached to specific notes. Pitched
instruments have specific pitches notated in a musical score. The trombone and all of its relatives, including the alto and bass, fall into the category of
pitched instruments.
Monophonic or Polyphonic
A third way of determining the kind of instrument is whether the instrument is monophonic or polyphonic. Monophonic instruments are only capable
of sounding one pitch at a time. Polyphonic instruments are capable of sounding several pitches at once, such as the piano. While a player may sing
through the trombone, thereby making it appear to be a polyphonic instrument, it is actually a monophonic instrument capable of playing one pitch at a
time since it can only produce one note without using the voice.

The Brass Check Personal Response
The Brass Check received a lot of criticism, unsurprisingly, from the mainstream media. He personally published the book, as no book publishers
would take it, even though it had a lot of potential and actually sold over 150,000 copies. Almost all media either refused to review The Brass
Check or gave it a falsely negative review, charging it with falsifying facts. Large newspapers such as the New York Times wouldn't even run
advertisements for the books. Sinclair, who had tried to be as accurate as possible for his entire career, challenged the media companies to sue him
for criminal libel if they could prove anything in The Brass Check to be false. Not one ever did. In fact, independent sources at the time found the

Movie Review : ' The Brass Teapot '
THE TALISMAN is a supernatural horror story with a hint of dark humor. The premise has a solid hook with the idea of a cursed necklace that
brings good luck and fortune to one, but bad luck to others. The concept has plenty of merit. It reminds one of the film called THE BRASS TEAPOT,
a fantasy–thriller in which a couple discovers that a brass teapot makes them money whenever they hurt themselves, and they must come to terms
with how far they are willing to go. Thus, while the concept is solid, the script would benefit from more development. The areas that need to be
examined are the structure, tension, pace, and character development, as well as dialogue. The opening prologue sets the tone, but it's a bit long.
Tighten the opening to get to the protagonist Hope sooner. Make sure the audience clearly knows that Hope is the protagonist when she's first
introduced. One way to do this is that after the initial opening transition to the character of Hope. There's a solid inciting event when Hope buys
the necklace. This begins a series of events that drive the plot. However, once the strange events begin, and Hope connects it to the necklace, Hope
needs to declare a goal by the end of the first act. This could be how to get rid of the necklace, or it could be that she wants to use the necklace for her
own selfish purposes. This was done in THE BRASS TEAPOT. Showing Hope struggle with the idea of using the necklace will give her more depth,
as she faces stronger moral

St Louis Brass Concert Report
This past Thursday, I attended the fourth event in the Presidential concert series. The guest musicians were the wonderful quintet, Saint Louis Brass.
They articulately play each note to create a melodious combination with their two trumpets, french horn, trombone, and tuba. During their set, they
played a variety of antiqued classics, modern edgy pieces, and smooth jazz. Saint Louis Brass began their set with a harmonious, traditional 1600s tune.
I was amazed at how well all the sounds from the brass instruments melded together. Before hand, when I thought of brass instruments, especially
trumpets, I thought of the sharp notes often played in jazz; however, the smooth sounds from the five instruments infiltrated the room, completely
filling my body with a calm peace. The musicians sat, fully engaged in the music that buzzed from their lips. I really enjoy this antiquated piece of
music far more than I anticipated. The next song, called Four Times Five, was quite different from the first. Written by a modern composer, the song
had a very different feeling from any other they played in the show. When they played... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the musicians double as professors at different universities; therefore, their knowledge of the history of brass instruments is quite extensive.
First, they played different sized conch shells, which is the first horns that formed into the song Happy Birthday. They then played many of the earliest
models of the trumpet, which had no valves, and the trombone, that required one to move their whole body back and forth in order to hit different
notes. Additionally, the Saint Louis Brass had a clear water hose with a funnel at the end of it as a horn. I was surprised that it made a beautiful sounds,
even hitting different notes. After separately playing each peculiar instruments, they came together to play an adorable little diddy. As a future teach

Gunther Schuller's Music For Brass Ensemble
In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations
of mutes resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability
to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up thetrumpet, horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in
dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive. Schuller then has the
instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is risky, due to the fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult...

The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the
foreground of the section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows for the
rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we
see the opposite combination used, where everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct difference
in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted
horn in the movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing
up the themes of the movement.
In Gunther Schuller's second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes brass instruments' range, articulations, and muting abilities to create
an unstable rhythmically complex piece that still carries a melodic

Destin Brass Company manufactures three items dealing with water purification systems: valves, pumps, and flow controllers. The company has been
seeing some problems dealing with competition within some of the product markets they produce. Ronald Guidry had two basic questions they wanted

In reality machine depreciation should be allocated to overhead using how many machine hour it took to produce each product. With 4,000 flow
controllers being produced at a machine usage of .20 hours they accounts for 800 total machine hours. This number is very small in comparison to
valves and pumps which take 3,750 and 6,250 total machine hours to produce, respectively. This means that flow controllers should be allocated less
machine deprecation overhead due to the relative small number of total machine hours used. However, since the overhead rate is only calculated using
labor in the traditional system Flow controllers are being over allocated. The table below shows how much machine depreciation is being allocated to
overhead using the traditional method based on labor hours.

The table below shows what machine depreciation would be if it were calculated using the number of machine hours used produce each product line.

Based on the previous two tables allocating machine depreciation based on direct labor hours can give the company a false cost on how much it cost to
produce each unit of a particular product. Pumps are being allocated $19,350 ($175,600–$156,250) too much machine depreciation. With the company
producing 12,500 pumps that's a per unit over charge of $1.55. While this is only showing the differences in

Essay On The Brass Teapot By Tim Macy
Without evil, all is well; but what is a 'well' but a hole in the ground adequate for drowning in? Too much of a good thing is always a bad thing. For
a story to have an effective set of morals, a healthy balance of good and evil is necessary. Without the success of light, and the discipline of dark, a
story would convey no teaching. We learn more from the downfall of evil than from the success of light, but we learn most from the devious ways in
which evil corrupts the innocent, as the texts referenced imply.
To be even remotely relatable, a story must have characters with realistic aspirations, values, and traits. For example, in Tim Macy's "The Brass
Teapot", readers are introduced to a relatively modest couple perusing a roadside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Poem In As The Team's Head Brass
Thomas Edward's As the Team's Head Brass (1916) is a well–known poem, which focuses on attitudes towards World War I articulated by non–soldiers
who stay behind in England and do not fight. In short, the poem depicts a conversation between the speaker of the poem, who is walking through the
English countryside, and a farmer occupied ploughing a field with a team of horses. The conversation eventually leads to the topic of war, since World
War I took place when Thomas wrote the poem. The two men discourse in pieces, as the farmer ploughs up and down the field; each time he reaches
the end of the field where the speaker stays, they exchange a couple more words.

According to the Henry Doubleday Research Association, "formerly the most troublesome annual weed of arable land, charlock is found
throughout the UK". This is maybe a hint towards the war, which was also detectable all throughout the UK, Edward Thomas' home country. The
yellow square of weed is very vivid and precise. Using rural conventions, such as depicting the countryside as peaceful in the first stanza, quite the
opposite of what war really is, one finds out that Thomas only does so to destroy the conventions by presenting the effects of World War I. In his
article Farm Size in England and Wales, from Early Victorian Times to the Present, David Grigg states that "[...] between 1885 and 1975 there has
been a substantial reduction in the area of crops and grass in England and Wales due mainly to urban expansion, and that this in itself would cause a
considerable fall in the number of farms even in the absence of amalgamation". This decline in agriculture led to very difficult living circumstances in
the countryside in 1916 (when the poem was published). All this is detectable in the poem. Another interesting to take a closer look at is the
following: "The blizzard felled the elm [...]". The verse gives a sense of continuity and the passing of time. The blizzard that felled the tree, might
symbolise a portrayal of destruction by natural

Canadian Brass Music Analyse
2.6 The Gestalt
With the two versions of the song "Come Together" one would expect the melody to be the same or pretty similar, and it is at some points, but with
the two very different style of the two artists, there is some variation in the two melodies. For example, in the Canadian Brass version, there are
occasional riffs that reflect possible inflections that could have been done vocally in the Aerosmith version, which makes up for no vocals in the
Canadian Brass version. So, the melodies are similar in the two different version but are mostly different in small variation of different inflections of
vocals and progressions of instruments.
The registers of the two songs are clearly different because the Canadian Brass version does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One difference in the two harmonies though, is in the Aerosmith version, how each layer in the harmony individually seems to fit better in the song,
like it clearly belongs to "Come Together" and not something that could be found in any song. In the Canadian Brass version, a lot of the time, some
layers found don't seem to not match, but have the feel that they could fit in a variety of other songs.
The texture of the two pieces are fairly different because of the different style of the two artists. In both versions, the texture is polyphonic and mixed. I
would say the Aerosmith version is a bit heavier because you cannot always tell what instruments are playing when, and in the Canadian Brass versions,
most of the time the instruments being played are identifiable.
Rhythm wise, the tempo in the Aerosmith version is faster paced than the Canadian Brass one. The aerosmith version feels slower even at the
beginning when it is at a slower tempo because of elements like the drums and vocals in the beginning. I think the Canadian Brass version especially
feels much slower in tempo than it actually is because of its marching band esque feel because of all the brass instruments and the lack of vocals.
Though they have different tempos, the beat in both versions are very strong and drives the

Brass Instruments: Classical Vs. Big Band
Every brass instruments have mouthpieces, however there are different types and sizes of these which give different sounds. The mouthpiece is there
to help your upper and lower lips vibrate when air passes between them. The different sizes of mouthpieces have their advantages and disadvantages,
beginner students should use the mouthpiece that comes with the trumpet until their development changes.
There are different mouthpiece rims and they all have different sounds to them. A wide rim gives an increase of endurance. A narrow rim improves
your flexibilty, a round one improves comfort and a sharp rim increases your precision and attack.
The mouthpiece cup also have different sizes and therefore makes the trumpet sound different.

The timbres between Classical and Big Band are completely different. There is an assortment of mutes used in Big Band which are hardly ever
featured in classical pieces. The playing styles between the two are different. Classical brass players use minute or no vibrato and tend to produce
less bold growls, screams and wails which Big Band players play with ease. Quite often the brass section plays similar phrases and rhythms for a
dominant, brassy sound. "These instruments can also make use of sound–changing mutes, which are widely used in jazz." –

be reported under the present, more traditional system? Why? Net Income should not change if Destin Brass switched accounting systems. The switch
would not change costs it only reallocates them across the different products offered. Net Income is calculated by taking revenues minus costs and if
costs do not change from one system to the next, net income will not

1. Use the Overhead Cost Activity Analysis in Exhibit 5 and other data on manufacturingcosts to estimate product costs for valves, pumps, and flow
controllers
Q. 1
When Activity Based Costing (Weetman, 2010, p. 85) is used to calculate the monthly cost per unit, two types of costs are distinguished. Firstly the
direct costs, consisting of the direct

Thus albeit not evenly applied to every product, the overhead cost is proportionately applied to each product in regard to direct labor. Ultimately
material cost, direct labor cost, and overhead cost are summed up to determine the standard unit cost of each product.(Bruns, 1997, exhibit 3) This
causes the pumps to appear rellativly expensive in comparison to the other products because this product is rellatively labor intense.(Bruns, 1997,
exhibit 2)
Exhibit 4 uses Revised Unit Costs as accounting method. In which the overhead is allocated to a material overhead and another overhead base,
based on the machine hours, as well as accounting for the set up labor costs for every run. The material related overhead is determined by dividing
the material related overhead by the total material costs, generating a material overhead rate in this case of 48%. The other overhead rate is
determined by dividing the total other overhead costs by the total number of machine ours in this case generating of $42.59 per machine hour. This
results in much of the costs being allocated to Valves instead of Flow Controlers, making the Flow Controlers appear much cheaper.(Bruns, 1997,
exhibit 4)
Unlike Standard Unit Costs as a method of accounting Revised Unit Costs allows the overhead costs to be allocated with respect to the differences in
material intense production products and product production heavy in other production assets. Since valves pumps and flow controllers

As The Team's Head Brass Poem
Presumed to be a response to "As the Team's Head Brass" by Edward Thomas, "In a Field" tells a story of a man returning home from war to
Heaney's childhood farm, marking the end of a tortured war. Seamus Heaney was a famous Irish poet, playwright, and nobel prize winner who, though
he never served, wrote a World War One commemorativepoetry collection called "Field Work." This poem is the last in the collection, and serves as a
finite conclusion to that piece of work. As the poem does not depict an active scene of war but rather its aftermath, there is not much rhyme or
cacophony. Heaney more subtly uses sound symbolism to describe the still, hushed nature of his surroundings. Additionally, the land itself takes on the
personality of a character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Step the fleshy earth and follow" (10) and "Take me by a hand to lead me back" (16) are two good examples, but upon closer examination, nearly
every line can be described as the polar opposite of a tongue twister. It is interesting, with this in mind, to imagine the poem being read by the narrator
in an absentminded, monotone voice. All of the ideas are imparted somewhat successfully, but the emotional residue of war erases any chance of
interacting tangibly with these ideas. The repetition of sound in the last line, "All standing waiting," (19) in addition to the drama of the situation,
rescues both the reader and the soldier from this gloominess by creating an element of finality. The fact that "In a Field" is Heaney's last poem only

Fanfare For The Common Man Analysis
Emily Rush March 22, 2016 MUS 303 Final Project Fanfare for the Common Man: Aaron Copland Fanfare for the Common Man immediately draws
the listener in with the beginning with a forceful crash on the tam–tam and sharp timpani and bass drum hits. The resonance within the Royal Albert
Hall, London contributed to the overall sound and effectiveness especially with the solo timpani strikes at the beginning. The listener waits in
anticipation of the brass section to enter, feeling as though the percussion introduction is much longer than it is in reality. After the percussion
introduction, the trumpets state the main theme. After the first statement of the main theme, the French horns join in creating a fuller texture.
Throughout the piece, the brass sections continue to layer with each other in different combinations each time. Sometimes one section would begin
playing the theme, and a few beats later another section would join in creating a feeling of a round. Throughout the piece, the brass plays the theme in
alteration with the timpani and tam–tam. Although the theme is simple, together they create a long musical idea. The overall dynamic of the brass
grows throughout creating a sense of power especially when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research about the work describes it as "American" and even "patriotic." The open fifth and fourth intervals represent a pioneer mentality much like
in Appalachian Spring. Fanfare for the Common Man is representative of Copland's conservative style much like the Appalachian Spring Suite
"Simple Gifts." Speaking somewhat to the American/patriotic affiliation of the work, there is a recording of the piece from November 14, 2000 in
the Coolidge Auditorium in the Library of Congress records. The original manuscript is also available on the Library of Congress website in PDF

Red Head Brass Case Study
WOOSTER – A longstanding manufacturer of fittings and couplings for the fire and emergency services received a job creation tax credit based on
its plan to add 30 jobs over the next three years. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved the request Monday in Columbus with Rod Crider, authority
member and president of Wayne Economic Development Council, voting in support of it. Shreve–based RHBA Acquisitions/Red Head Brass, Shreve,
will receive more than $22,000 in tax credits. It will receive a portion of the credit with each job created. Red Head Brass was acquired by a private
equity firm in late 2015, and President Tim Lautermilch has been very proactive in trying to identify programs to help the manufacturer grow, said

Red Head Brass was fortunate to receive a grant for new job creation, President Tim Lautermilch said. JobsOhio helped with the tax credit support.
"Rod Crider and his team here in Wayne County were supportive and guided us in the process," Lautermilch said. "We feel Wayne County is a
good location and has allowed us good opportunities to hire and build our business." The company has about 10 people this past year, bringing the
total number of workers to about 60, Lautermilch said. The plan is to add a second shift. Those already brought on board are part of the
company's plan to hire around a dozen workers this year. The growth is expected to come from an increase in market share, largely in the
firefighting industry, Lautermilch added. Red Head Brass will also look to diversify its product offerings and markets into related industries.
Lautermilch described the atmosphere at Red Head Brass as "exciting," and Starlin would agree. The company, founded by the late Joe Fishelson, has
been around since 1972. Starlin has been at WEDC for five years, and he said this is first project in

High-Brass Family Narrative
My senior year of high school, my high brass director left on an extremely short notice, leaving our band one director short for the whole marching
season. I cannot begin to describe the trials that we encountered as a band, specifically the high brass family. Not having our "band dad" with us took
an excruciating toll that set the high brass back and ultimately the whole band. As a senior, it was my job to step up and facilitate my section since we
did not have anyone else to guide us. I did my absolute best to accommodate the younger members with ideal practices to improve their marching skills
and playing techniques. During this challenging time, I attempted to take on the persona of a band director to motivate my section to work hard every

Concert Report Sample
Never could I have thought that my first concert experience was going to be in a college class, performed by various composers of classical music.
During the concert, I got to listen to four performances. First, the Oxycotton was played by Tim Sanchez. Second, Samantha Post played Acht Stucke
on flute, followed by Nicholas Gledhill, playing Blues and Variations for Monk on horn. Finally, the CSU Graduate Brass Quintet performed a piece
named Misty. In this essay, I will share my personal experience of the concert and discuss the different elements of music seen in the different
performances.
The concert started with Tim Sanchez playing the Oxycotten on the Marimba. Not only was this instrument a first time experience for me but the

It was performed by the CSU Graduate Brass Quintet, consisting of Nikolas Valinsky, Matthew Chanlynn, Emelie Pfaff, William Gamache, and Heather
Ewer. While Valinsky and Chanlynn played the trumpet, Pfaff played the horn, Gamache thetrombone and Ewer tuba. This quartet accomplished a
wonderful work by the different melodies, pitches and dynamics. While the tuba was heard more in the background due to its low pitch, the most
significant instruments were the trumpets. Not only did they provide the highest pitch but it was also heard as the main instrument because of their
rhythm. Together, this group of brass instruments created a dense rhythm by providing the audience with several layers of music on top of each–other.
Altogether, I enjoyed this piece the most. It made me feel happy, excited and joyful.
My first concert experience turned out to be very different from what I expected. Even though I would not choose to listen to classical music normally,
the concert has made me enjoy this type of music more and made me think about how much more there is to music than just lyrics and a

African Art Collections at Museums: The Bronze Heads of...
While I was unable to attend the museums in New York I was able to go to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and The Smithsonian Natural History
Museum in Washington D.C. While I was at both museums I saw that both African art collections had a number of bronze heads of leaders and kings. I
noticed that both museums had almost the identical bronze head of the king, so I decided to dedicate this paper on the bronze heads of the Benin
kingdom, and the Edo peoples.
The bronze head to the upper left is the commemorative head of a neighboring leader, the artist of this artwork is an unidentified African it is made of
copper alloy, iron. The creation of this sculpture is said to be around the late 15th century to the early 16th century. In 1897 it was removed from the
Benin Royal Palace by Captain Guy Burrows, and then sold to Lt. General Augustus Henry Pitt–Rivers it was then passed on to generations of the
Pitt–Rivers, then sold to Robert Owen Lehman, in which he then gave to the MFA as a promised gift. The head to the upper right is a
commemorative head of a king (Oba), the artist is also an unidentified African, and it is made of copper alloy, iron. The creation of the sculpture is
said to be in the late 16th century. The artwork belonged to Armand Rateau in 1932, sold to L. Hope in 1968; it was then kept in the family until it
was sold to Alexander Martin, who gave it to Robert Owen Lehman, who promised it as a gift to the MFA. All the Benin artworks at theMuseum

Walkin' and Swinging: A Jazz Piece Written by Mary Lou...
"Walkin' and Swingin'"
"Walkin and Swingin" is a piece of jazz performed by Andy Kirk and his band, the Twelve Clouds of Joy, that could be described as light, bouncy, and
perhaps easy or even uncluttered. This was written by Mary Lou Williams for Andy Kirk and is a thirty–two bar piece with four choruses. However,
the length of the sections is handled differently, with the last chorus section being shortened to six bars after the transitions between different
instruments, from the saxophone and brass to the piano (seen from 2:16 to about 2:24). The song overall has a light tone, and has many instruments that
contribute, including two alto saxophones, one tenor saxophone, three trumpets, two trombones, a guitar, a piano, a bass, and drums, as observed from
the written sheet music. The piece is different from others in multiple ways, perhaps the most noticeable being the piano solo played by Mary Lou
Williams, the multiple solos played by members of the brass instrument section, very quick but effective transitions, and the overall swing groove of
the music. There is also a walking bass used at the bridge, and a very intriguing trumpet lead of the brass instruments.
The song starts off from 0:00 to 0:12 with a melody begun by the saxophones, and there are riffs apparent played by the brass section behind this
melody, followed by a repeating of this section until 0:22 when the brass section of instruments climbs up the scale to a higher key. This section, from
0:22 to 0:29,

How Brass Instruments Changed Society
Did you know that music is a major key in how people work, and also health, but brass instruments have changed the way we listen and play music.
Although, brass has given a big impact in two genres, such as Jazz and Symphonic. In addition to the fact that music has always been important to
society, instruments have evolved from wood to the metals we use today, and brass instruments made an impact on how mostmusic is played, such as
through the most famous genre, blues, pop and symphonic. This research will show how the brass instruments are made, how they have changed
society, and how brass instruments are important in the 21st century. What is a Brass instrument? A brass instrument is a yellowish metal that is

Some musicians have certain techniques that will work great with some people in certain skill levels. All brass players should know that playing into a

There are three main actions that are occurring when playing on a brass instrument, such as, the air that is needed from the person attempting to make a
sound and producing a sound. Also the strength that is needed from the muscles in your mouth that are putting the vibration and tension into the
mouthpiece to create the sound that is needed rather than air. And finally the mentally concept that is needed mostly, a strong player has to be able to

Calorimetry Of Brass Lab Report
Background Brass is considered an alloy, or a mix of multiple metals. Brass is usually made of copper and zinc, but there could be some other metals
creating 300+ known brass alloys. The amount of copper in brass will affect basic characteristics of brass like color, strength, conductivity, etc. To find
the amount of copper in brass one can use visible spectroscopy. Spectroscopy is the study of electromagnetic radiation. It originated as a study of
visible light, and wavelength through a prism. Spectroscopy can show how much copper is in a brass solution by showing how much visible light is

Brass Spectroscopy Lab
Purpose: Brass is a metal alloy composed of different metals, primarily copper, iron, and zinc. However, the amount of copper in brass affects many of
its characteristics, including brass' color, color, strength and so on. To find out the amount of copper in brass, simple technique can be employed, called
spectroscopy. Spectroscopy involves viewing the amount of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by a substance, which can let one determine the
concentration of an element that composes that substance using the amount of energy absorbed. In the case of brass, this technique can then be used to
find the moles of copper in bras, which can ultimately be used to out what percent of brass is composed of copper.
Procedure:
Part A: Wear safety goggles and a chemical–resistant lab apron since the chemicals used in this lab are toxic and may irritate body tissues. Turn on the
spectrometers and allow them to warm up for 15 to 20 minutes. Get a cuvet filled with distilled water about two–thirds of the way up the top and using
a lens tissue, place the cuvet inside the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming the calibration curve for the copper ions is accurate, there is a linear relationship between the molarity of copper and absorbance, with a
slope of about 3.3005. Using this constant and knowing the amount of light absorbed by the sample of brass shots (0.526), one can calculate the
molarity of copper, which is about 0.159 M in this sample. Using this and the volume of the sample given, which is 0.1 liters, the moles of copper
can be calculated and then multiplied by the molar mass to yield the grams of copper in the brass shot, which is 1.01 g approximately. Finally,
dividing the grams of copper by the total mass of the brass yields the percent composition of copper in the brass shot, which in this experiment was

Destin Brass Products Co.
Background Destin brass products co. Destin Brass Products is a manufacturing company specialized in brass products started in Destin, Florida,
1984, running by Roland Guidry (president), Peggy Alford (controller), John Scott, (manufacturing manager) and Steve Abbott (sales and marketing
manager). There are three major product lines: valves (24% of company revenue), pumps (55% of revenue) and flow controllers (21 of revenue).
Recently, due to its competitors keeping reducing product price, Destin found it become difficult to match such low price with a profitability decline
under the current cost system. A meeting was held among senior management aiming to find out some new strategies to keep Destin's competitive
position. Problems & Issues The major problem faced by Destin is that pumps are losing profits due to intense price competition. Destin was forced to
match the continuously reduced price from its competitors despite of the high production costs. As a result, the gross margins in the latest month have
fallen from 35% to 22%. The reason why the company has been stuck in such difficulty, as Peggy pointed out in the meeting, is primarily because its
competitors might be using a revised costing system while Destin is still using the traditional one. Analysis There are three standard costing system
related to Destin Brass Products and the major difference between them are how overheads are assigned. –Destin has very traditional volume–based

marching band into the school will give students the opportunity to show creativity, have more time to work on tone quality and more time to work on
choreography.
Being in a low brass marching band, one is going to have to know the choreography. Some of the choreography that can help students loosen up and
gain muscle is yoga, calf raises, Zumba, planks, and running laps on the track. All of the kind of things that can help the marching band, mainly the

How Have Brass Instruments Changed Over Time
How have brass instruments have changed over time? Trumpets, French horns, trombones, and tubas are the four main instruments in the brass family.
Each has changed dramatically and will continue to change. Brass instrument come in all varieties. All brass instruments are curved and twisted to
allow for easier holding as well as playing. Brass instruments range in size from about six–and–a–half feet to 18 feet, normally. There have beens some
brass instruments invented that use nearly 60 feet of tubing. Trumpets are the smallest horns in size, when stretched out it is about six–and–a–half feet
long. Trumpets can play some of the highest pitches, and has an impressive range of three octaves. Trumpets have had a great deal of uses throughout...

The French horn is roughly 18 feet long, but it only looks like about seven or eight feet long. The reason for the size distortion is the French horns
shape. French horns have three full rings that connect the mouthpiece and the bell. Located between the mouthpiece and the bell are the three,
sometimes four, valves and the tubing that belongs with each separate valve. French horns can be made with three or four valves. Horns with three
valves are most commonly played in the key of F, while four valved horns can be played in the key of either F or Bb. The fourth valve allows the
performer to switch between F and Bb. The beginning French horns had no valves. The performer could only change their pitch through one of two
ways. The performer could switch the slide that determined the key of the horn, or they would just have to lip up the note. The French horn is the hardest
brass instrument to play due to the overtone series. The overtones on the French horn are really close together, and it is hard to hit the right partial,
especially while jumping. The overtone series, sometimes called the harmonic series starts low and spread out, but as it gets higher and higher, the
notes get closer and closer to each other, making it difficult to find the right

Theme Of Brass In The Kite Runner
The average adult makes 35,000 choices every day. Behind every choice is an intent, whether it be good or bad. In Khalid Hosseini's novel, The
Kite Runner, characters have a variety of intents behind their choices. Some characters make amazing choices for heinous reasons, while other
characters make horrible choices for altruistic reasons. These characters cannot be judged by their choice alone. Hosseini displays how it is not the
action itself but the intent of an action that defines a person in his use of the symbol of brass, in the actions of Baba, and in the character of Amir. To
begin with, the symbol of brass is used to display how one's action does not always match one's intention. Both Assef and Sohrab use brass as a way to
hurt someone else, but the intention behind the action is what truly matters. In the beginning of The Kite Runner, Assef uses his brass knuckles to
mercilessly attack other children. Amir "saw him use those brass knuckles once on a kid from the Karteh–Char district [...] how he grinned as he
pummeled that poor kid unconscious" (Hosseini 38). By using the word "grinned" Assef's sociopathic tendencies are revealed. His intention was to
hurt the kid for fun. Later in the novel, Assef pulls out those very same brass knuckles while fighting Amir. Assef nearly murders Amir only because
Hassan had threatened Assef as a child and "Assef promised that in the end he'd get us both. He'd kept that promise with Hassan. Now it was my turn
(286). Given Assef's ruthless character, Assef likely used the childhood feud as an excuse to have some fun and pummel Amir. On the other hand,
Sohrab uses the brass ball in order to prevent more pain from occurring. Amir was near death when "the slingshot made a thwiiiit sound when Sohrab
released the cup. Then Assef was screaming. He put his hand where his left eye had just been a moment ago" (291). Sohrab wanted Amir's pain to end
as Sohrab is a good person without sociopathic tendencies. Although Sohrab and Assef use brass to inflict pain, the intentions of the two greatly differ.
While Assef hurts others for his own amusement, Sohrab only hurts Assef to help Amir. This difference of intentions is what defines either character.
Additionally, the intentions of

amazing performance. The performers were very talented and you could tell that they were professional players. They decided that they would take

My favourite piece from the percussionist was when she started playing The Village. The unique sound of The Marimba left me in awe and made

Moderato by Piu Mosso. It was different than the other pieces because it conveyed what I felt like was a horror feeling. The tuba started off the
piece and was later accompanied by the trumpets in a minor note but later on changed to major tonality near the middle of the piece. It was very
elegant and I enjoyed the major parts more than the minor parts in this piece. The group also played some other interesting pieces near the end of the
performance which caught my attention. She's like the swallow (Newfoundland) was a very interesting piece because it sounded like a James Bond
piece in the beginning but soon changed into a weird piece because it didn't follow the normal flow of music and was not as calm as I expected it to be.
Another piece that I believe didn't follow the normal patterns of music and sounded kind of odd was Star Dust. It did

Brass Alloy Lab Report
The main purpose in doing this experiment was to figure out how much of the percentage of Copper's mass is in a brass alloy using a
spectrophotometer that is hooked up to the laptop. Another purpose in doing this experiment is to learn how to use the Beer's Law plots to learn
how to use the equation and get the correct concentrations. This is important in everyday context because it is important for people who work
doing many different types of jobs. Safety Information: In this lab, we used nitric acid to reactant with copper. While this is reacting, it creates a gas
called nitrogen dioxide. This is a gas that should not be inhaled at all. It is a very toxic gas. While adding the nitric acid to the copper, it should be
done in a fume hood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data does support this because when doing this experiment, the second part was done to figure out how much copper was in the sample of
brass alloy that we got. We found out that our sample had for determination 1 1.75 g of Copper in the sample. In our second determination, we
determined that the sample had 1.72 g of Copper in it. Beer's Law Plot is a plot of Absorbance vs. Concentration which should be linear. We can
also use it to determine an unknown samples concentration as long as we have the correct absorbance. A spectrophotometer helps to determine
absorbances of the samples that you have. The average amount of copper in the brass sample we got was 57.7%. This value is on the higher side
being over 50%. I believe that brass is mainly made of copper so the higher value is a good thing. Our curve that we got for our graph is very linear. We
had a correlation of 0.997 which is very close to one. It is not perfect but it is very close. None of my points fall to far from the line either. The EPA
is lowering the allowed levels of copper in waste water because too much copper in a person's system can be dangerous and could be toxic if too
much copper is consumed (Gleason,Troyer). On my Beer's Law Plot, the smallest concentration that can be read is 0.016 mol/L with two significant
figures. There should be at least 2 significant figures for the concentrations. Some precision may be lost when the Beer's Law Plot is made because
there is only one significant figure to base it off

  • 2. Dallas Brass Concert Report The Dallas Brass is a brass ensemble that performed on September 24th, 2016 at Hart Middle School Auditorium. The members of this group are Luis Araya and Terry Sawchuk who play the (various) trumpets, Juan Berrios who plays the horn, alto horn, and the Flugelhorn, Paul Carlson and Ryan Christianson who play the tuba and trombone respectively, and Andres Crovetti who is the percussion section. Michael Levine is the created the group back in 1983 and was their trombone player before Ryan joined. The program was the American Music Journey, which was music that was played from when George Washington was president to modern day music. In the program there was a description of the ensemble, but no list of the pieces that they were going to be playing. The audience was pretty big, the auditorium was about three fourths filled. I think everyone enjoyed what was played that night. One of the bigger reactions was when the lights went out and the whole ensemble came out playing the theme to Pink Panther with lights on their instruments that would flash whenever they played a note. Once the lights started coming back on, you could see that all the members had on black sunglasses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They played a variety of fast and slow pieces. Some pieces they danced to, others they sat and played, but most of the time at least one person was walking around stage. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Especially the way the members talked to the audience. It felt more like they were bringing us into their daily shenanigans than bring us in to watch them preform. Michael talked about the ensemble at the very beginning and then explained why the concert was called "The American Journey". The way Michael spoke was very Disney cast member like. Explaining everything in a friendly tone and inviting us to watch what was about to happen and made me enjoy the whole experience even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Brief Note On Electrical Discharge Machining ( Edm ) CHAPTER 2 2.LITERATURE SURVEY 2.1Introduction Literature review is one of the scope studies. It works as guide to run this analysis. From the early stage of the project, various literature studies have been done. Research journals, books, printed or online conference article were the main source in the project guides. Literature review section work as reference, to give information and guide base on journal and other source in the media. We are broadly classified all the paper into five different category, i.e. paper related to Electrical discharge machining (EDM), material related (workpiece or tool), some paper related to the effect of input parameters on (MRR,TWR and SR), dielectric fluid and the effect of flushing. 2.2Electrical discharge machining (EDM) It is a process that is used to remove metal through the action of an electrical discharge of short duration and high current density between the tool and the workpiece [18–19]. (EDM) is a non–traditional type of precision processing using an electrical spark–erosion process between the electrode and the working piece of electrically conductive immersed in a dielectric fluid [20]. Since it has more special gains, the (EDM) has been widely applied in modern metal industry for producing complex cavities in moulds and dies, which are difficult to manufacture by conventional machining. The use of (EDM) in the production of forming tools to produce plastics mouldings, die castings, forging dies etc., has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis of Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" Essay Tchaikovsky – Romeo and Juliet The slow introduction, which is the theme of Friar Lawrence, begins with a slow minor melody played by the clarinets, which imitates a Russian hymn. The strings then take over the melody and use suspensions. There is a modulation to the major and the strings and woodwind play together. The music modulates back to minor and the flute plays an ascending minor arpeggio whilst the harp plays glissandos. This is repeated. Pizzicato strings then play a descending sequence whilst the flute melody crescendos and accelerates. A string legato melody then alternates between the cello and the violin, before all the strings play together and crescendo as the harp accompanies and the violins play a pedal note. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harp scales and a string passage then follows. There is a brief modulation back to minor, and then the flute repeats the love theme in major, accompanied by pizzicato strings. As the melody crescendos and accelerates, the horn plays a countermelody. Harmonics are heard in the accompanying strings as a legato string melody is played, before the cor anglais returns and plays a gradual diminuendo, ending in a perfect cadence. The development and recapitulation section opens with the strings and flute playing antiphonally in a minor key. The melody is very rhythmic and uses accelerando. The strings then play ascending and descending scales, before playing a melody that is accompanied by brass. The French horns and woodwind section then play in imitation. There is a crescendo, with ascending scales played by the woodwind. The strings play an inverted pedal as the French horn and woodwind imitate each other again. The cello then plays the melody, imitated by strings and flute. An ascending and descending string passages follow, with cymbal crashes. The brass and strings play a syncopated rhythm, which is repeated by theorchestra and uses cymbal crashes. The orchestra then repeats the fight melody, using cymbal crashes, suspensions, triplets and descending scales, whilst the trumpets play the Friar Lawrence theme. Following the crescendo, there is a descending string scale, then the woodwind then plays an arpeggio melody whilst the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Percent Copper In Brass Percent Copper in Brass I. Introduction Have you ever been to any orchestra show or home improvement store before? If you have, I'm sure you have seen those fancy gold–colored instruments or fancy door knobs or faucets from the home improvement store. Have you ever wondered what they are made up of? They are made up with the binary alloy called brass. Brass is a binary alloy made up of copper and zinc with an additional amount of lead and tin(Brass in Focus, Angela Vessey,2004). Its density is known as 8.3 to 8.7 g/cm3, and melting point is 1652 to 1724 В°F(Bell,2017). The characteristics of the brass are varied on the amount of zinc and copper. The higher amount of zinc seems to be cast easier while the lower amount of zinc can be cold worked easier; high amounts of copper allow the brass to form a patina, coating of the thin oxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In real world, we use Beer's law to find out the amount of copper or zinc in the brass. The most accurate way to find the amount of copper is by drawing a calibration curve. When a calibration curve is a straight–line, we represent it using y=ОІ0+ОІ1x where y is the signal, Sstd, and x is the analyte concentration, Cstd. The constants ОІ0 and ОІ1 are, respectively, the calibration curve's expected y–intercept and its expected slope. Because of uncertainty in our measurements, the best we can do is to estimate values for ОІ0 and ОІ1, which we represent as b0 and b1. The goal of a linear regression analysis is to determine the best estimates for b0 and b1. How we do this depends on the uncertainty in our measurements(Harvey,2016). Meanwhile, all the brasses share same characteristics of malleability and ductility. All the brasses are capable of being shaped and can be drawn into a wire(Brass in focus, Angela Vessey,2004). In the real world, brass is used for decoration, mechanical applications, as well as for musical instruments. Depends on the copper percentage in brass, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Compositions Performed By The Canadian Brass This analysis will focus primarily on the compositions performed by the Canadian Brass. The quintet is internationally known for their excellence in performance as well as their style. The ensemble was formed during the 1970's in Toronto, Canada by Tubist Charles Daellenbach and trombonist Gene Watts. Their style has a wide range which spans from trademark Baroque to Dixieland tunes as well as new compositions and arrangements created particularly for their style. They've been around for more than 40 years and have had many different performers come and go within the ensemble. Having sold over 2 million albums, the Canadian brass has toured all over the world, playing different genres of music. Today, the quintet includes Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Bernhard Scully (French horn), Achilles Liamakopoulos (trombone), Caleb Hudson (trumpet) as well as Chris Colletti (trumpet). For this paper, I will be focusing on the classical compositions performed by the ensemble. Anyone who has ever attended a live performance of the Canadian Brass would say that they have excellent showmanship, and are quite spontaneous when it comes to humor. I was lucky enough to watch them perform myself at Benaroya Hall in Seattle a few years ago, and I have been a fan ever since. The first piece I chose was Toccata & Fugue in D minor originally composed by Bach. The intro is by far the most spectacular where I was moved by the range and dynamic contrast. I also liked the deep tones produced by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Trombone History The trombone was one of the first orchestra instruments capable of playing all 12 chromatic pitches within an octave. Trombones exist in several ensembles including jazz, big band, orchestra, ska and even rock bands. An early ancestor of the trombone is an instrument called a sacbut. It first appeared in early Renaissance music and came in four versions in order from highest to lowest –– alto, tenor, bass and great bass. Instrument Family The trombone is an instrument from the brass family. Since the trombone plays in the bass clef and in the lower part of the brass family range, it is considered a low–brass instrument. Brass instruments are named for both the materials that are used in construction and the various types of metal mouthpieces that produce the sound. Mouthpiece materials include silver, brass, gold, titanium, steel and even plastic. Plastic mouthpieces provide inferior sound but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is another kind of instrument that is secondary to the instrument family. Non–pitched instruments do not have a definable pitch. With non–pitched instruments, it is sometimes possible to identify high, medium and low sounds, but these pitches can't be attached to specific notes. Pitched instruments have specific pitches notated in a musical score. The trombone and all of its relatives, including the alto and bass, fall into the category of pitched instruments. Monophonic or Polyphonic A third way of determining the kind of instrument is whether the instrument is monophonic or polyphonic. Monophonic instruments are only capable of sounding one pitch at a time. Polyphonic instruments are capable of sounding several pitches at once, such as the piano. While a player may sing through the trombone, thereby making it appear to be a polyphonic instrument, it is actually a monophonic instrument capable of playing one pitch at a time since it can only produce one note without using the voice. • 8. The Brass Check Personal Response The Brass Check received a lot of criticism, unsurprisingly, from the mainstream media. He personally published the book, as no book publishers would take it, even though it had a lot of potential and actually sold over 150,000 copies. Almost all media either refused to review The Brass Check or gave it a falsely negative review, charging it with falsifying facts. Large newspapers such as the New York Times wouldn't even run advertisements for the books. Sinclair, who had tried to be as accurate as possible for his entire career, challenged the media companies to sue him for criminal libel if they could prove anything in The Brass Check to be false. Not one ever did. In fact, independent sources at the time found the book to be a very accurate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Movie Review : ' The Brass Teapot ' THE TALISMAN is a supernatural horror story with a hint of dark humor. The premise has a solid hook with the idea of a cursed necklace that brings good luck and fortune to one, but bad luck to others. The concept has plenty of merit. It reminds one of the film called THE BRASS TEAPOT, a fantasy–thriller in which a couple discovers that a brass teapot makes them money whenever they hurt themselves, and they must come to terms with how far they are willing to go. Thus, while the concept is solid, the script would benefit from more development. The areas that need to be examined are the structure, tension, pace, and character development, as well as dialogue. The opening prologue sets the tone, but it's a bit long. Tighten the opening to get to the protagonist Hope sooner. Make sure the audience clearly knows that Hope is the protagonist when she's first introduced. One way to do this is that after the initial opening transition to the character of Hope. There's a solid inciting event when Hope buys the necklace. This begins a series of events that drive the plot. However, once the strange events begin, and Hope connects it to the necklace, Hope needs to declare a goal by the end of the first act. This could be how to get rid of the necklace, or it could be that she wants to use the necklace for her own selfish purposes. This was done in THE BRASS TEAPOT. Showing Hope struggle with the idea of using the necklace will give her more depth, as she faces stronger moral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. St Louis Brass Concert Report This past Thursday, I attended the fourth event in the Presidential concert series. The guest musicians were the wonderful quintet, Saint Louis Brass. They articulately play each note to create a melodious combination with their two trumpets, french horn, trombone, and tuba. During their set, they played a variety of antiqued classics, modern edgy pieces, and smooth jazz. Saint Louis Brass began their set with a harmonious, traditional 1600s tune. I was amazed at how well all the sounds from the brass instruments melded together. Before hand, when I thought of brass instruments, especially trumpets, I thought of the sharp notes often played in jazz; however, the smooth sounds from the five instruments infiltrated the room, completely filling my body with a calm peace. The musicians sat, fully engaged in the music that buzzed from their lips. I really enjoy this antiquated piece of music far more than I anticipated. The next song, called Four Times Five, was quite different from the first. Written by a modern composer, the song had a very different feeling from any other they played in the show. When they played... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the musicians double as professors at different universities; therefore, their knowledge of the history of brass instruments is quite extensive. First, they played different sized conch shells, which is the first horns that formed into the song Happy Birthday. They then played many of the earliest models of the trumpet, which had no valves, and the trombone, that required one to move their whole body back and forth in order to hit different notes. Additionally, the Saint Louis Brass had a clear water hose with a funnel at the end of it as a horn. I was surprised that it made a beautiful sounds, even hitting different notes. Gunther Schuller's Music For Brass Ensemble In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up thetrumpet, horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive. Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is risky, due to the fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing up the themes of the movement. In Gunther Schuller's second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes brass instruments' range, articulations, and muting abilities to create an unstable rhythmically complex piece that still carries a melodic ... He and his staff are worried that company profits are falling in regards to these competitive problems. Analysis: Destin Brass Company manufactures three items dealing with water purification systems: valves, pumps, and flow controllers. The company has been seeing some problems dealing with competition within some of the product markets they produce. In reality machine depreciation should be allocated to overhead using how many machine hour it took to produce each product. With 4,000 flow controllers being produced at a machine usage of .20 hours they accounts for 800 total machine hours. This number is very small in comparison to valves and pumps which take 3,750 and 6,250 total machine hours to produce, respectively. This means that flow controllers should be allocated less machine deprecation overhead due to the relative small number of total machine hours used. However, since the overhead rate is only calculated using labor in the traditional system Flow controllers are being over allocated. The table below shows how much machine depreciation is being allocated to overhead using the traditional method based on labor hours. For a story to have an effective set of morals, a healthy balance of good and evil is necessary. Without the success of light, and the discipline of dark, a story would convey no teaching. We learn more from the downfall of evil than from the success of light, but we learn most from the devious ways in which evil corrupts the innocent, as the texts referenced imply. To be even remotely relatable, a story must have characters with realistic aspirations, values, and traits. Poem In As The Team's Head Brass Thomas Edward's As the Team's Head Brass (1916) is a well–known poem, which focuses on attitudes towards World War I articulated by non–soldiers who stay behind in England and do not fight. In short, the poem depicts a conversation between the speaker of the poem, who is walking through the English countryside, and a farmer occupied ploughing a field with a team of horses. The conversation eventually leads to the topic of war, since World War I took place when Thomas wrote the poem. The two men discourse in pieces, as the farmer ploughs up and down the field; each time he reaches the end of the field where the speaker stays, they exchange a couple more words. According to the Henry Doubleday Research Association, "formerly the most troublesome annual weed of arable land, charlock is found throughout the UK". This is maybe a hint towards the war, which was also detectable all throughout the UK, Edward Thomas' home country. The yellow square of weed is very vivid and precise. Using rural conventions, such as depicting the countryside as peaceful in the first stanza, quite the opposite of what war really is, one finds out that Thomas only does so to destroy the conventions by presenting the effects of World War I. In his article Farm Size in England and Wales, from Early Victorian Times to the Present, David Grigg states that "[...] between 1885 and 1975 there has been a substantial reduction in the area of crops and grass in England and Wales due mainly to urban expansion, and that this in itself would cause a considerable fall in the number of farms even in the absence of amalgamation". This decline in agriculture led to very difficult living circumstances in the countryside in 1916 (when the poem was published). All this is detectable in the poem. For example, in the Canadian Brass version, there are occasional riffs that reflect possible inflections that could have been done vocally in the Aerosmith version, which makes up for no vocals in the Canadian Brass version. One difference in the two harmonies though, is in the Aerosmith version, how each layer in the harmony individually seems to fit better in the song, like it clearly belongs to "Come Together" and not something that could be found in any song. The texture of the two pieces are fairly different because of the different style of the two artists. In both versions, the texture is polyphonic and mixed. I would say the Aerosmith version is a bit heavier because you cannot always tell what instruments are playing when, and in the Canadian Brass versions, most of the time the instruments being played are identifiable. Rhythm wise, the tempo in the Aerosmith version is faster paced than the Canadian Brass one. The aerosmith version feels slower even at the beginning when it is at a slower tempo because of elements like the drums and vocals in the beginning. I think the Canadian Brass version especially feels much slower in tempo than it actually is because of its marching band esque feel because of all the brass instruments and the lack of vocals. Thus albeit not evenly applied to every product, the overhead cost is proportionately applied to each product in regard to direct labor. Ultimately material cost, direct labor cost, and overhead cost are summed up to determine the standard unit cost of each product.(Bruns, 1997, exhibit 3) This causes the pumps to appear rellativly expensive in comparison to the other products because this product is rellatively labor intense.(Bruns, 1997, exhibit 2) Exhibit 4 uses Revised Unit Costs as accounting method. In which the overhead is allocated to a material overhead and another overhead base, based on the machine hours, as well as accounting for the set up labor costs for every run. The material related overhead is determined by dividing the material related overhead by the total material costs, generating a material overhead rate in this case of 48%. The other overhead rate is determined by dividing the total other overhead costs by the total number of machine ours in this case generating of $42.59 per machine hour. This results in much of the costs being allocated to Valves instead of Flow Controlers, making the Flow Controlers appear much cheaper.(Bruns, 1997, exhibit 4) Unlike Standard Unit Costs as a method of accounting Revised Unit Costs allows the overhead costs to be allocated with respect to the differences in material intense production products and product production heavy in other production assets. As The Team's Head Brass Poem Presumed to be a response to "As the Team's Head Brass" by Edward Thomas, "In a Field" tells a story of a man returning home from war to Heaney's childhood farm, marking the end of a tortured war. Seamus Heaney was a famous Irish poet, playwright, and nobel prize winner who, though he never served, wrote a World War One commemorativepoetry collection called "Field Work." This poem is the last in the collection, and serves as a finite conclusion to that piece of work. All of the ideas are imparted somewhat successfully, but the emotional residue of war erases any chance of interacting tangibly with these ideas. "Walkin' and Swingin'" "Walkin and Swingin" is a piece of jazz performed by Andy Kirk and his band, the Twelve Clouds of Joy, that could be described as light, bouncy, and perhaps easy or even uncluttered. This was written by Mary Lou Williams for Andy Kirk and is a thirty–two bar piece with four choruses. However, the length of the sections is handled differently, with the last chorus section being shortened to six bars after the transitions between different instruments, from the saxophone and brass to the piano (seen from 2:16 to about 2:24). The song overall has a light tone, and has many instruments that contribute, including two alto saxophones, one tenor saxophone, three trumpets, two trombones, a guitar, a piano, a bass, and drums, as observed from the written sheet music. The piece is different from others in multiple ways, perhaps the most noticeable being the piano solo played by Mary Lou Williams, the multiple solos played by members of the brass instrument section, very quick but effective transitions, and the overall swing groove of the music. There is also a walking bass used at the bridge, and a very intriguing trumpet lead of the brass instruments. The song starts off from 0:00 to 0:12 with a melody begun by the saxophones, and there are riffs apparent played by the brass section behind this melody, followed by a repeating of this section until 0:22 when the brass section of instruments climbs up the scale to a higher key. • 34. Brass Spectroscopy Lab Purpose: Brass is a metal alloy composed of different metals, primarily copper, iron, and zinc. However, the amount of copper in brass affects many of its characteristics, including brass' color, color, strength and so on. To find out the amount of copper in brass, simple technique can be employed, called spectroscopy. Spectroscopy involves viewing the amount of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by a substance, which can let one determine the concentration of an element that composes that substance using the amount of energy absorbed. In the case of brass, this technique can then be used to find the moles of copper in bras, which can ultimately be used to out what percent of brass is composed of copper. Procedure: Part A: Wear safety goggles and a chemical–resistant lab apron since the chemicals used in this lab are toxic and may irritate body tissues. Turn on the spectrometers and allow them to warm up for 15 to 20 minutes. Get a cuvet filled with distilled water about two–thirds of the way up the top and using a lens tissue, place the cuvet inside the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming the calibration curve for the copper ions is accurate, there is a linear relationship between the molarity of copper and absorbance, with a slope of about 3.3005. Using this constant and knowing the amount of light absorbed by the sample of brass shots (0.526), one can calculate the molarity of copper, which is about 0.159 M in this sample. Using this and the volume of the sample given, which is 0.1 liters, the moles of copper can be calculated and then multiplied by the molar mass to yield the grams of copper in the brass shot, which is 1.01 g approximately. Finally, dividing the grams of copper by the total mass of the brass yields the percent composition of copper in the brass shot, which in this experiment was about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Destin Brass Products Co. Background Destin brass products co. Destin Brass Products is a manufacturing company specialized in brass products started in Destin, Florida, 1984, running by Roland Guidry (president), Peggy Alford (controller), John Scott, (manufacturing manager) and Steve Abbott (sales and marketing manager). There are three major product lines: valves (24% of company revenue), pumps (55% of revenue) and flow controllers (21 of revenue). Recently, due to its competitors keeping reducing product price, Destin found it become difficult to match such low price with a profitability decline under the current cost system. A meeting was held among senior management aiming to find out some new strategies to keep Destin's competitive position. Problems & Issues The major problem faced by Destin is that pumps are losing profits due to intense price competition. Destin was forced to match the continuously reduced price from its competitors despite of the high production costs. As a result, the gross margins in the latest month have fallen from 35% to 22%. The reason why the company has been stuck in such difficulty, as Peggy pointed out in the meeting, is primarily because its competitors might be using a revised costing system while Destin is still using the traditional one. Analysis There are three standard costing system related to Destin Brass Products and the major difference between them are how overheads are assigned. –Destin has very traditional volume–based costing system which does not ... Electives, such as Business math, Marketing, Band and Instrumental music, are important to students. An elective some students would like to add into school is a low brass marching band. Adding a low brass marching band into the school will give students the opportunity to show creativity, have more time to work on tone quality and more time to work on choreography. Being in a low brass marching band, one is going to have to know the choreography. Some of the choreography that can help students loosen up and gain muscle is yoga, calf raises, Zumba, planks, and running laps on the track. All of the kind of things that can help the marching band, mainly the low brass. These are all the choices that can help us with to control our posture and include the use of a roll–step or glide–step, keeping the performers upper bodies pointed at the audience most of the time, and the use of backwards marching and shifts or slides, in addition to forward marching. ... • 38. How Have Brass Instruments Changed Over Time How have brass instruments have changed over time? Trumpets, French horns, trombones, and tubas are the four main instruments in the brass family. Each has changed dramatically and will continue to change. Brass instrument come in all varieties. All brass instruments are curved and twisted to allow for easier holding as well as playing. Brass instruments range in size from about six–and–a–half feet to 18 feet, normally. There have beens some brass instruments invented that use nearly 60 feet of tubing. Trumpets are the smallest horns in size, when stretched out it is about six–and–a–half feet long. Trumpets can play some of the highest pitches, and has an impressive range of three octaves. Trumpets have had a great deal of uses throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The French horn is roughly 18 feet long, but it only looks like about seven or eight feet long. The reason for the size distortion is the French horns shape. French horns have three full rings that connect the mouthpiece and the bell. Located between the mouthpiece and the bell are the three, sometimes four, valves and the tubing that belongs with each separate valve. French horns can be made with three or four valves. Horns with three valves are most commonly played in the key of F, while four valved horns can be played in the key of either F or Bb. The fourth valve allows the performer to switch between F and Bb. The beginning French horns had no valves. The performer could only change their pitch through one of two ways. The performer could switch the slide that determined the key of the horn, or they would just have to lip up the note. The French horn is the hardest brass instrument to play due to the overtone series. The overtones on the French horn are really close together, and it is hard to hit the right partial, especially while jumping. The overtone series, sometimes called the harmonic series starts low and spread out, but as it gets higher and higher, the notes get closer and closer to each other, making it difficult to find the right ... • 40. Theme Of Brass In The Kite Runner The average adult makes 35,000 choices every day. Behind every choice is an intent, whether it be good or bad. In Khalid Hosseini's novel, The Kite Runner, characters have a variety of intents behind their choices. Some characters make amazing choices for heinous reasons, while other characters make horrible choices for altruistic reasons. These characters cannot be judged by their choice alone. Hosseini displays how it is not the action itself but the intent of an action that defines a person in his use of the symbol of brass, in the actions of Baba, and in the character of Amir. To begin with, the symbol of brass is used to display how one's action does not always match one's intention. Both Assef and Sohrab use brass as a way to hurt someone else, but the intention behind the action is what truly matters. In the beginning of The Kite Runner, Assef uses his brass knuckles to mercilessly attack other children. Amir "saw him use those brass knuckles once on a kid from the Karteh–Char district [...] how he grinned as he pummeled that poor kid unconscious" (Hosseini 38). By using the word "grinned" Assef's sociopathic tendencies are revealed. His intention was to hurt the kid for fun. Later in the novel, Assef pulls out those very same brass knuckles while fighting Amir. Assef nearly murders Amir only because Hassan had threatened Assef as a child and "Assef promised that in the end he'd get us both. He'd kept that promise with Hassan. Now it was my turn (286). Given Assef's ruthless character, Assef likely used the childhood feud as an excuse to have some fun and pummel Amir. On the other hand, Sohrab uses the brass ball in order to prevent more pain from occurring. Amir was near death when "the slingshot made a thwiiiit sound when Sohrab released the cup. Then Assef was screaming. He put his hand where his left eye had just been a moment ago" (291). Sohrab wanted Amir's pain to end as Sohrab is a good person without sociopathic tendencies. Although Sohrab and Assef use brass to inflict pain, the intentions of the two greatly differ. While Assef hurts others for his own amusement, Sohrab only hurts Assef to help Amir. This difference of intentions is what defines either character. Additionally, the intentions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It took place at the Partridge Hall inside the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre at 7:30PM on January the 30th 2017. It was exquisite, and such an amazing performance. The performers were very talented and you could tell that they were professional players. They decided that they would take the audience around the World by playing different pieces from different countries at different time periods which gave us a wide variety of musical tastes and made the performance much more interesting. The first piece that they played was called Fanfare from La Peri by Paul Dukas. It was a strong way to start off the evening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My favourite piece from the percussionist was when she started playing The Village. The unique sound of The Marimba left me in awe and made me feel like I was in a village in Africa with jungles surrounding it. It was defiantly one of my favourite pieces! Another enjoyable piece was the Moderato by Piu Mosso. It was different than the other pieces because it conveyed what I felt like was a horror feeling. The tuba started off the piece and was later accompanied by the trumpets in a minor note but later on changed to major tonality near the middle of the piece. It was very elegant and I enjoyed the major parts more than the minor parts in this piece. The group also played some other interesting pieces near the end of the performance which caught my attention. She's like the swallow (Newfoundland) was a very interesting piece because it sounded like a James Bond piece in the beginning but soon changed into a weird piece because it didn't follow the normal flow of music and was not as calm as I expected it to be. Another piece that I believe didn't follow the normal patterns of music and sounded kind of odd was Star Dust. It did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Brass Alloy Lab Report The main purpose in doing this experiment was to figure out how much of the percentage of Copper's mass is in a brass alloy using a spectrophotometer that is hooked up to the laptop. Another purpose in doing this experiment is to learn how to use the Beer's Law plots to learn how to use the equation and get the correct concentrations. This is important in everyday context because it is important for people who work doing many different types of jobs. Safety Information: In this lab, we used nitric acid to reactant with copper. While this is reacting, it creates a gas called nitrogen dioxide. This is a gas that should not be inhaled at all. It is a very toxic gas. While adding the nitric acid to the copper, it should be done in a fume hood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data does support this because when doing this experiment, the second part was done to figure out how much copper was in the sample of brass alloy that we got. We found out that our sample had for determination 1 1.75 g of Copper in the sample. In our second determination, we determined that the sample had 1.72 g of Copper in it. Beer's Law Plot is a plot of Absorbance vs. Concentration which should be linear. We can also use it to determine an unknown samples concentration as long as we have the correct absorbance. A spectrophotometer helps to determine absorbances of the samples that you have. The average amount of copper in the brass sample we got was 57.7%. This value is on the higher side being over 50%. I believe that brass is mainly made of copper so the higher value is a good thing. Our curve that we got for our graph is very linear. We had a correlation of 0.997 which is very close to one. It is not perfect but it is very close. None of my points fall to far from the line either. The EPA is lowering the allowed levels of copper in waste water because too much copper in a person's system can be dangerous and could be toxic if too much copper is consumed (Gleason,Troyer). On my Beer's Law Plot, the smallest concentration that can be read is 0.016 mol/L with two significant figures. There should be at least 2 significant figures for the concentrations. Some precision may be lost when the Beer's Law Plot is made because there is only one significant figure to base it off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
